I try and be as impartial as I can, but only you can decide if I am biased or not. As with every product we review, I have dived this product extensively before making this video. I have at least 70 dives in it at time of recording and I am ready to share my thoughts. Meet James Blackman

With a career in diving spanning twenty years, James has seen a thing or two in the dive industry. James grew up on the Southwest coast of Britain and learned to dive in the frigid waters of the English Channel. If your first dives were like being placed in a cocktail shaker full of cabbage soup and you come away with a love for the sport, then you know it’s going to be a life-long pursuit.

James spent his twenties in the British merchant marine which afforded him the opportunity to travel to and dive in far flung locales… 177 countries and counting. Between stints onboard a variety of vessels, James used his shore leaves to level up his scuba training… Rescue diver in Tanzania, DM in Indonesia, Instructor in Honduras, Tec Instructor in the French West Indies.

His last ship before moving to a shore-based life style was an expedition ship where he notched up some of his most impressive dives, including briefly holding the world record for most northerly scuba dive… 82 degrees north in the Russian arctic; diving the Amazon river; the Antarctic; and virgin reef systems in Papua New Guinea and Melanesia.

Moving ashore in his early thirties, James took on the role of General Manager for a luxury dive operator in St Martin and never had a dull moment! Hollywood visited the island and called upon James’ underwater skills for on-set safety. When Cat-3 hurricane Gonzalo devastated the area, James switched hats to salvage and public safety diver to help with the recovery.

Scuba Diving has given so much to James in his life… and first on that list is his brilliant wife Karina whom he met whilst teaching her AOW class! Yes, that old cliché! James and Karina are also business partners and co-owners of two power-house scuba brands. Miami Technical Diving has become the premiere scuba training facility in South Florida. Tired of seeing other dive shops compete in a ‘race to the bottom,’ James decided his model for teaching scuba would focus on keeping the quality as high as possible; using the best gear possible; teaching beyond the minimum standards on a 1-to-1 student-to-instructor ratio. The fullness of the MTD training calendar shows that people – student divers – prefer to receive premium, quality tuition, as opposed to cheap and fast.

James is the personality and knowledge broker behind ‘Divers Ready!’ a super influential Scuba Diving  YouTube channel ,  website  and brand. In just a year, Divers Ready! has become the fastest growing You Tube channel in the Scuba Diving niche, with 1000s of new divers joining every month. Our daughter took the Open Water Camp in June 2022 and she loved it. The Voyager Series wings, donut-shaped air cells for single-tank diving, provide divers essential buoyancy control. With 35 lbs. (15.8 kg) of lift, streamlined side panels, and their minimalist, oval shape, the wings’ design provides maximum comfort throughout the dive with no squeezing or restrictions. The donut-shape design provides greater stability and control while diving by keeping an even volume of inflation on the top, sides, and bottom. This, along with an integrated Gusset Control System (GCS) that reduces “taco” effect and promotes effective streamlining, puts buoyancy where it is most needed (throughout the torso supporting the weight of the tank) for superior horizontal trim. The GCS is not like a bungee wing because it does not restrict airflow; instead, the GCS promotes added streamlining and buoyancy control, yet allows the wing to inflate to its full capacity. Even floating on the surface, the Voyager Series wings excel by keeping the diver in a vertical position when used in conjunction with a harness and crotch strap; it won’t tip you over.

Divers may choose from our durable 1680 ballistic nylon EXP material or our even more rugged SuperFabric® brand technology XT material that creates an armor-clad outer shell that is impervious to damaging pinches and cuts, with a 1680 ballistic nylon diver's side panel. Both the Voyager EXP (Model BC4700) and Voyager XT (Model5200) are further enhanced with a heavy-duty, 210 denier nylon laminated bladder.

Equipped with a choice of a 12- or 16-inch elbow or a 16-inch rapid exhaust (pull dump), appropriate low-pressure inflation hose, and two sets of marine-grade 316 stainless steel grommet mounting holes for attaching the wing to a harness, the Voyager Series can accommodate any diver’s needs.

As a part of our modular BCD system, the Voyager Series wings can be matched with either a TransPac® XT, Transplate, or any metal back plate and webbing harness.

Product Description

Dive Rite Voyager XT Wing - 16" Rapid Exhaust     Dive Rite # BC5100-16 The Voyager series are outstanding wings for single-tank diving with their low-profile, donut-shape design. Streamlined side panels and a minimalist, oval shape create a higher-lift wing that remains unobtrusive instead of bulky. This is ideal for divers with larger statures or those who dive in cold water and/or require more weight. The Voyager accommodates up to one 95ft3/15 L tank with 35lbs/15.8 kg of lift. With its donut-shape, the Voyager wing provides greater stability and control in the water. Donut-style or 360 degree wings promote an even volume of inflation on top, sides and bottom, which improves buoyancy control and promotes a more efficient, horizontal trim. Divers may choose from our value-driven and durable 1680 ballistic nylon EXP material or our SuperFabric® brand technology XT material that we’ve married with a 1000 denier Cordura® inner shell to create an armor-clad outer bag that is impervious to damaging pinches and cuts. Both the Voyager EXP (Model BC 4700) and Voyager XT (Model 5200) are further enhanced with a heavy-duty, 210 denier nylon laminated bladder. They are backed by our WORRY-FREE LIFETIME GUARANTEE and are made exclusively in the U.S.A. The Dive Rite Voyager XT Wing is a compact, durable and stylish 40lb Single Tank Wing wing that is designed to fit a backplate, TransPac or TransPlate harness system.

The Dive Rite Voyager XT wing falls right in line with the other Dive Rite XT models, touting a low-profile, donut-shape design. Streamlined 1680 denier nylon side panels and the most durable SuperFabric technology XT material that creates an armor-clad outer shell that is impervious to damaging pinches and cuts enhancing this minimalistic, oval shaped wing offering a higher-lift wing that remains unobtrusive instead of bulky. Tie-down (taco) tabs are no longer necessary.

With 40lbs/20 kgs lift the Voyager XT is designed to accommodate up to one 95 ft3/15 L single tank, which is ideal for cold water diving or for the warm water diver who slings a pony or small stage.

Extreme Moscow makeovers are a rite of passage for any new arrival

Getting a haircut in the center of Moscow is not hard. Hairdressers are on every street corner, but the problem is price and the time it takes.

We’ve had a few transformations and renovations since moving to Moscow. The first is rather pleasant when the conditions are right – it’s 'renovating' your hair, or more commonly known as getting a haircut. The second concerns apartments, but I will return to that later.

Getting a haircut in the center of Moscow is not hard. Hairdressers are on every street corner, but the problem is price and the time it takes. Prices for a woman’s haircut go as high as 260 euros, and sometimes even more. The trick is finding excellent service at the right price, and since I’m new in town I still don’t know anyone who can recommend the right ratio between price and quality.

Even worse is trying to cut my little boys’ hair. Russian hairdressers don't believe in quick trims. They do everything with scissors, and fancy themselves an artist, so the whole process can last an hour.

I got a wake up call when my poor boy fell asleep during his hair cut, and they needed two people. One held his head, while the other cut; not to mention that they always cut his hair to about one-inch in length. So, I decided to take YouTube classes  to be a 'professional' hairdresser for my boy. My husband, however, still doesn't trust me enough. 

Getting my hair cut was a different story. I had no doubt in the quality of the high-end hairdressers but the price was over the top. During my first year I tried to get by, saying that long hair and color is in fashion. Fortunately, my friend was my savior and found someone to come to my home. Affordable, practical and amazing with colors. You drink coffee, practice Russian and get your hair done in the comfort of your home. 

Let’s move on now to the other type of renovation; one that does not have an ending as pleasant as the one with hair. Just bear with me and try to picture the following…

It was a Monday at 10 in the morning, and I was just about to have coffee after sending the kids to school when suddenly..... BANG, BUMP, WIZZZZZZZZZZ. The floor shook, and at first I thought it’s just a metro train passing by, even though I had never before felt one near my house.

After a few minutes the situation became clearer, and instead of listening to music for the next five hours, I `enjoyed’ the sounds of drilling. The neighbors above were renovating, and the sound was so loud that every day I began to leave the house early and tried not to come home until late. 

Little did I know that renovations in Russia are completely different from other home renovations that I’ve previously encountered. First of all, they ambush you. During your three-year stay you have to consider that every building in Moscow, whether old or new, has at least two to three apartments that are waiting to be renovated. There is no way to avoid the renovations monster, and it jumps at you out of the blue, just at the moment when you start to feel comfortable in your new apartment! 

These renovations go on for as long as six months, and the noise is incessant from early morning until evening. Count yourself lucky if they don’t continue into late evening or even until midnight.

Recently, I visited my friend living in a really nice area and we saw a house under renovation that must be setting a world record. Workers have been there every day for two years, and as far as I know, it’s not a home for wealthy politicians who need golden toilets installed

Since we moved into our apartment we’ve had no more than a total of one-month peace and quiet. All my friends have similar experiences.

I still have not spoken to the workers to gain insight into this matter. Why all the noise, and why do repairs drag on for months? Are they such thorough workers, or do they take long breaks? I promise to try to get to the bottom of this the next time I see a worker. Maybe I'll even join them in order to fully understand the problem!
