Eva Longoria Sells $8.25 Million L.A. Estate She Bought From Tom Cruise at a Loss - See Inside

The former Desperate Housewives star reportedly purchased the home from Tom Cruise for $11.4 million in 2015

Eva Longoria has finally sold her private Los Angeles compound at a huge loss.

The Desperate Housewives alum, 45, purchased the French-inspired home from Tom Cruise in 2015 for $11.4 million and has now sold it for $8.25 million, according to Variety — incurring a $3.15 million loss on the deal.

The estate was reportedly first listed for $14 million in 2017 before Longoria dropped the price to $9.8 million in 2018. The listing changed hands a few times, but Bravo star Josh and Matt Altman of Douglas Elliman and Eddie Fallah of the Lux Group were the final listing agents.

Perched off of famed Mulholland Drive, the secluded Hollywood Hills property spans nearly three acres and includes two separate residences, two standalone studios and a quaint stone cottage.

Outside, the space is crossed by a series of stone paths that lead to plenty of alfresco entertaining spaces with views of the valley, a lagoon-style swimming pool, and a spa with a footbridge.

The main house is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom cottage with oak floors and a farmhouse-style kitchen with oversized French doors leading outside. It also features a wine tasting and storage room.

A second home on the site has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a chef's kitchen and a dining area.

According to Variety , this is not the first time the actress — who welcomed her first child Santiago Enrique Bastón in June 2018 — is taking a loss on a real estate sale.

The outlet reports that in early 2018, she placed an 8,600-square-foot residence on the market for under $3.2 million, at least $400,000 less than the $3.6 million she paid for it nearly 12 years earlier.

"I'm leaving my house of 10 years," Longoria said in a video shared on her Instagram Stories in March 2018 while she was still pregnant with her son. "The whole house is empty. Everything's packed and everything's empty."

"I'm going to miss this place," she added.

The actress is currently social distancing at her new home in Los Angeles with husband José "Pepe" Bastón and Santiago, who is now 21 months old, amid the coronavirus pandemic .

"I'm lucky cause my son is so little, he's not in school yet and he's not quite a baby so he's just in the sweet spot of 'has no idea what's going on' and just loves that Mom and Dad are home all day long," Longoria tells PEOPLE.

She is also still keeping busy with the release of her new Quibi comedy Flipped , co-starring Kaitlin Olson, Will Forte and Andy Garcia as Longoria's husband.

Eva Longoria’s efforts to sell Tom Cruise’s former Hollywood Hills West home could spawn its own film franchise.

Two years after paying $11.4 million for the privilege of owning the box-office star’s hallowed halls in 2015, the actress-director-producer offered the compound up for $14 million. A year later the price was chopped to $11 million. Today it stands at $9.495 million.

The gated estate encompasses a 2.75-acre promontory centering on a three-bedroom villa and a four-bedroom guesthouse. There are also two studios.

The French-influenced villa features wide-plank floors, Venetian plaster walls and vaulted ceilings. A fireplace anchors the master suite, which opens to a second-story patio.

Among living spaces in the guesthouse is a great room with a floor-to-ceiling fireplace and a wood-paneled dining room.

Longoria, 44, is known for her roles in “The Young and the Restless” and “Desperate Housewives.” This year she appeared in the series “Grand Hotel” and the family film “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.”

It took more than two years and a major price cut, but Eva Longoria has finally found a buyer for her celeb-pedigreed Hollywood Hills compound. The actress has been attempting to sell the Los Angeles estate since November 2017, when she listed the home for a hefty $14 million .

That would have given her a nice profit from the $11.4 million she paid none other than Tom Cruise for the estate back in 2015.

Alas, Longoria wasn’t able to find a buyer, and by June 2018, discounted the price to $11 million , which already meant she would be accepting a loss. Unfortunately for Longoria, she had to lower her expectations even more, as the final sales price comes to just $8.25 million.

That’s a serious loss from what Longoria paid for the home, without even factoring in the amount spent on transaction and brokerage fees. It’s also even less than the most recent $9.5 million asking price.

The 2.75-acre estate is composed of multiple structures. Longoria and her husband, Jose Bastón, began a remodel shortly after purchasing the home, but they never ended up finishing the project. Instead, they offered the home for sale with approved renovation plans.

The main house is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom French villa, with oak floors, Venetian plaster moldings and pitched ceilings. The farmhouse-style kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances, white countertops and wooden cabinetry. There’s also a dining room and a living room with a large fireplace.

Elsewhere on the property, there’s a four-bedroom, four-bathroom “country house,” as well as a footbridge and a pool.

Longoria and Bastón are already settled into another home on the West Coast, as they purchased a sprawling 11,018-square-foot mansion in Beverly Hills in late 2017 . They doled out $13.5 million for the eight-bedroom estate, right around the time they first listed the Hollywood Hills compound for sale.

Eva Longoria has had a big year: In January, the actress and producer sold the Mediterranean-style Hollywood Hills home she purchased in 2005 and lived in for more than a decade, for $1.374 million. And in March, she launched the Eva Longoria Collection , an affordable line of women's clothing. On top of that, Longoria has been hard at work on her new home with husband Antonio Baston: the $11.4 million European-style villa located in Laurel Canyon the couple purchased in 2015. The home sits on three acres of land, which includes a main house, guest house, and impressive swimming pool area. The previous owner? None other than actor Tom Cruise . Longoria, who married Baston in 2016, filled AD in at the Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards on the renovation and decoration of her new, impressive home.

Architectural Digest: So you're remodeling your new house. How is that design process going?

Eva Longoria: The process is amazing! Mark Rios is our architect in Los Angeles, and he's a genius with the lines of the house. Architecture to me is really another expression of art. Anybody who is creative in that field I just thrive off of. He has ideas. We have ideas.

AD: What is your main goal for the house?

EL: The whole thing about my house is functionality. I want it to function as a house. I don't want it to be a museum, so he's making it sophisticated and elevated, yet functional. That's a really hard balance.

AD: Is there a particular style you're going for?

EL: It's a modern farmhouse.

AD: How are you going about picking out the furniture?

EL: My husband is in charge of the furniture. He and Robert Verdi are in cahoots. They're talking about couches right now! They could shop for five hours for a chair and they'll ask me all these questions and I'm like, "It's a f***ing chair!" They have a love affair for furniture.

TOM Cruise offloaded one of his Hollywood homes last month for $11.4 million ($AU15.76 million) and it turns out there was a desperate housewife behind the sale.

Apparently the Mission Impossible star wanted $12.995 million ($AU17.97 million) for the LA residence, but Longoria managed to slash the purchase price. Mission accomplished.

The glamorous “European-style” house in Laurel Canyon was just portfolio fodder for Cruise whose main residence is a mega mansion in nearby Beverly Hills, which is also on the market.

On a very private 10,000sq m, Longoria’s new prestige property features a two-storey three-bedroom main home with oak plank floors, Venetian plaster walls, vaulted ceilings, three bedrooms and the ultimate addition for any desperate housewife — a vast wine-tasting and wine storage space.

For guests there is even a detached four-bedroom “slate-roof guesthouse” on the property with its own stat of the art kitchen and four bathrooms.

Other bonuses at Longoria’s new pad include a heated lagoon-style swimming pool, trellis-shaded dining terrace, children’s playground and detached three-car garage.

The Desperate Housewives actor has added to an already impressive residential real estate portfolio with a humble home in a gated community in San Antonio Texas, a bungalow in LA’s Whitley Heights and a mansion in the Hollywood Dell neighbourhood.

Scientology’s poster boy looks set to cleanse his real estate aura and earn a pretty penny in the process.

He is selling his Beverly Hills estate with hefty price hopes of $50 million ($AU69.13 million). He reportedly bought the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom mega mansion with ex-wife Katie Holmes for $30.5 million ($AU42.35 million) in 2007.

And to add to the property pile, Cruise is still looking for a cashed up buyer to take his 1214sq m Telluride ranch off his hands for $59 million ($AU81.57 million).

It has room to accommodate his private jet and according to The Wall Street Journal , Cruise is selling the place because he hasn’t used it much in recent years.

Listing agent Bill Fandel of Sotheby’s International Realty told The Journal that the actor designed the native stone and cedar home himself and the project was finished in 1994.

In recent years Cruise has reportedly also offloaded his East Village condo in New York, but he is still believed to own a brownstone in Greenwich Village.

A cleaning product, which has previously been compared to the Bissell version which can retail for $219, has gone viral.

Longoria is moving on from the Mediterranean-style home (and into Tom Cruise’s old house)

Back in September, Eva Longoria snatched up Tom Cruise’s tranquil, slightly-rustic Laurel Canyon home for $11.4 million—a nice discount on the $12.995 million asking price. Now, Variety reports that the Desperate Housewives star is parting with the Hollywood Hills home she purchased for $1.15 million back in 2005.

The three-bedroom Mediterranean-style home was originally constructed in 1924, though it’s clearly had more than a few updates since then. Nestled behind a gated flight of stairs, the very pink home features a covered front porch and an impressive high-ceilinged entryway with stone flooring and a large master staircase. A circular dining area offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills.

The master bedroom appears to lead out to a balcony offering similarly good views, and photos show there’s even a mattress in the corner in case you’d prefer to sleep outside. The listing also boasts of a "separate bonus room," but it’s not completely clear which room might be seen as a bonus.

The 3,700-square-foot home is asking $1.395 million, leaving Longoria with a very small window to turn a profit on the sale.

Eva Longoria Dishes About Buying Tom Cruise’s L.A. House: ‘This Is a Home’

Life is pretty good for Eva Longoria . The Telenovela star is looking forward to settling down with fiancé José “Pepe” Bastón and moving into their new $11.4 million mansion in the Hollywood Hills.

In an exclusive interview in the new issue of Us Weekly , the Desperate Housewives alum, who got engaged to Bastón in Dubai in December, says her fiance “really raised the bar for every man” with his romantic proposal.

But while a lot of planning went into the proposal, the lovebirds haven’t firmed up their wedding details, but that could be because their focus is on renovating their new home in the Hollywood Hills.

The estate perched above Laurel Canyon used to belong to Tom Cruise . It sits on almost three acres and features a main house and a second guest house, as well as a heated swimming pool. 

“I know Tom, he’s a lovely person,” Longoria says. “He did a very, very good job on this house because it was stunning and beautiful, and the minute we walked in I was like, ‘This, this is a home.'”

She was honored as an ally during the annual AAPI Heritage Month event.

The multi-hyphenate was honored with the first Gold Ally Award at the event, which was held at The Music Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 6.

The gala kicked off AAPI Heritage Month (May) and highlighted 100 Asian Pacific leaders who have greatly impacted American culture and society in the last year. This year’s honorees included actors Ke Huy Quan, Sandra Oh, Iman Vellani, and Steven Yeun; as well as Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, K-pop girl group NewJeans, transgender advocate Geena Rocero, and comedian Ali Wong.

Longoria—who is Mexican-American and has made efforts to introduce Hispanic culture to the United States with her work —was honored for being an ally to the AAPI community.

"The thing we probably have most in common is that most of us have parents who don’t understand what we actually do for a living," she said in her acceptance speech, in which she highlighted various similarities between Asian and Latin American cultures.

For he occasion, the Desperate Housewives alum wore a stunning black midi dress by David Koma. The piece featured a structured corset-like bodice and glittering silver embellishments at the top. She wore it with black Aquazzura sandals embellished with silver crystals, and layers of diamond jewelry by Shay Jewelry, including long drop earrings and various rings.

Longoria continued the sophistication with her glam, opting for rosy makeup, a glossy pink lip, a soft pink manicure, a dark smoky eye, and her signature slicked-back ponytail.

"About last night 💫 Honored to have received the first Gold Ally Award at the @goldhouseco Gala. I’m so proud of all the achievements of the AAPI community and I’m proud to be an ally💪🏽," she captioned an Instagram post featuring photos of herself at the gala.

Eva Longoria Is Selling Her Longtime L.A. Mansion—With One Feature She Won’t Miss

“Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria is selling her 8,600-square-foot, three-story home in the Hollywood Hills for $3.8 million.

She picked up the six-bedroom, nine-bath home in 2006, at the top of the housing bubble, for $3.6 million, meaning that she’ll walk away from the property right around break-even, if she gets full asking.

Longoria, 43, gave her 4.5 million Instagram followers a walkthrough of the house last month, in a series of videos posted to Instagram Stories.

“Guys, I’m leaving my house of 10 years,” she says, according to Entertainment Tonight . “Everything’s packed, and everything’s empty. Table gone, beds are gone, food is gone, I’m so hungry.”

She shot videos of the master bedroom, master bath, and walk-in closet, saying “I’m going to miss this place.”

She added, “I’ll tell you what I’m not going to miss are these stairs. Every time I’d get in my car and I forget my glasses or my phone, I’m like, ‘Ugh, I gotta go all the way back upstairs to get it.’”

A winding, wrought-iron staircase connects the home’s three levels.

One of the home’s coolest features is found on the ground floor—a pool with windows facing a large sitting area downstairs, giving guests a view inside the pool, and swimmers a view of what’s happening inside. Just off the pool is a deck, lounge chairs, and outdoor kitchen.

The kitchen is located on the top floor. It’s anchored by a hefty center island that seats five, in-island gas range, and white, wood-paneled refrigerator. Nearby, there’s an open-concept living room with a fireplace that flows into an informal dining room with another fireplace.

The master bedroom has a fireplace, as does the master bath. To top it off, there’s a large walk-in closet with a rolling ladder.

“I love this closet,” she says.

Beside the fish tank-style pool, the home’s second coolest feature is undoubtedly its home theater, which comes with its own wraparound bar in the lobby. Inside the theater, Longoria put up posters from her various projects—from TV’s “Desperate Housewives” and “Telenovela” to her film roles in “The Sentinel” and “Over Her Dead Body.”

Longoria has amassed quite an impressive real estate portfolio. In 2015, she spent $11.4 million to buy a compound in the Hollywood Hills previously owned by Tom Cruise (she’s since listed that compound for $14 million). This time last year, she sold another home in the Hollywood Hills for $1.4 million.
