How to start the GTA Online Short Trips Franklin and Lamar missions

In the GTA Online Short Trips, you switch from your regular avatar to become Franklin Clinton or Lamar Davies and take on three drug-fuelled story missions. You'll need a friend to go on these adventures with as they're cooperative so can't be taken on solo, though the matchmaking option is available if you need to find a buddy to participate with. Introduced as part of the GTA Online The Contract update, it's interesting to consider that technically these Short Trips are the first new story content centered around a main GTA 5 character since the game first launched in 2013! Finding and starting these co-op missions in GTA Online can be tricky, so here's everything you need to know about the Short Trips missions in GTA Online with Franklin and Lamar.

How to play GTA Online Short Trips

Originally, if you wanted to play the GTA Online Short Trips then you had to finish the full Dr Dre storyline of The Contract first, at which point you'd receive an invitation to visit the GTA Online Record A Studios and open up the option to initiate these missions. That's now changed, as all players can trigger them by going through the Jobs Menu, though the exact route isn't obvious at first. Go to Online > Play Job > Rockstar Created > Missions then scroll all the way down until you find the GTA Online Short Trips options. Pick the mission you want to play, then you'll be whisked away to matchmaking to get partnered up with another player – these are co-op activities so you can't fly solo.

What are the GTA Online Short Trips Franklin and Lamar missions

There are three different GTA Online Short Trips missions in total, obviously all revolving around the weed business with Franklin and Lamar's attempts to consolidate their position in the game. The story themes for each of them should play out in the following order:

GTA Online Short Trips - Seed Capital

Franklin and Lamar head to LD Organics to stock up on merchandise, but discover the warehouse is being raided by Vagos gang members. After fighting them all off, the pair spot Lamar's truck being driven away slowly so jump in the back, then the driver tips off the Vagos to cue up some vehicle combat. Following a final alleyway shootout, they recover the truck and return it to the warehouse.

GTA Online Short Trips - Fire It Up

Seeking revenge, Franklin and Lamar head out to the Vagos' weed storage in Blaine County, racing Franklin's motorcycle against Lamar's upgraded car on the way. After fighting off gang members at the first warehouse, they use fertilizer to burn the weed supplies before moving on to a second warehouse to repeat the process, commandeering a Technical (pickup truck with a mounted machine gun) to deal with many enemy vehicles. With both warehouse supplies destroyed, they steal a Vagos van and drive it back to Franklin's house while fighting off more gang members.

GTA Online Short Trips - OG Kush

Lamar sets up a promotional deal meeting for LD Organics with Jimmy Boston of the Epsilon Program, using a van that's literally 'made of weed', and asks Franklin to provide support. When they arrive at the 'secret' meeting place (which Lamar has inadvertently revealed via a Snapmatic post), Franklin climbs a crane to provide sniper cover and soon spots a large number of Vagos arriving. After dealing with the gang members the pair attempt to drive the van back to LD Organics, but discover it is on fire and they're getting high from the fumes. Realizing they won't make it back to the warehouse, they instead head to Tequi-la-la to try and gain publicity for the brand, and despite crashing outside the ruse works to raise the profile of their business.

How to Complete Short Trips in GTA Online

Two of the most memorable characters in the Grand Theft Auto franchise are Franklin and Lamar, who offer humorous moments together in GTA 5 . They make an appearance in GTA Online through the new Short Trip missions. The following guide will show you how to activate Short Trips and play them in GTA Online .

GTA Online Short Trips Walkthrough

Firstly, you need to purchase an agency and complete The Contract DLC’s campaign , then complete Dr. Dre’s mission to unlock Short Trips. Following this, you’ll have to wait a while for Franklin to give you a call and invite you to the Record A Studios in Rockford Hills.

You’ll need a second person to help you complete the subsequent missions. This can be done by pairing up with a stranger in the lobby or with a friend. Following the first mission, you can trigger the rest of the Short Trip missions by entering the smoke room of Record A Studios . The Short Trips in GTA Online include Speed Capital, Fire it Up, and OG Kush.

The short missions are repeatable . This is done by opening the Pause menu and scrolling right to the Online tab. Here, select Jobs, then select Play Job. Scroll to Rockstar Created then choose Missions. Here you’ll find a list of missions, including the Short Trips.

It’s not hard to replay the Short Trips, though a little prep work is needed to trigger them for the first time. It is worth it, however, as the missions allow you to earn money easily .

How to Complete Short Trips in GTA V Online

Short Trips is a collection of fun story-based missions in which you and a friend get to play as Franklin and Lamar getting into all kinds of drug-related hijinx.

You'll get GTA$ 50,000 each time you complete a Short Trip mission, plus a bonus of GTA$ 100,000 the first time you complete one as each character. That means if you go play through all three twice right now, once as each character, you're in for GTA$ 900,000 in-pocket.

Most of this is pretty straight-forward, but if you want some extra help or just want to read a full walkthrough, you've come to the right place.

Before you go on, there are a few things to note about Short Trips:

• In order to play you MUST have another player.
• You will not have any of your regular guns or armor. Snacks, however, you will still be able to use so be sure to stock up.

How to Start Short Trips

Short trip - seed capital, short trip - fire it up, short trip - og kush.

It used to be that in order to unlock Short Trips you had to own an Agency and complete the VIP Contract with Dr. Dre . That's no longer the case.

Now you can also initiate Short Trips by going to the Pause Menu > Online > Jobs > Play Job > Rockstar Created > Missions > Short Trip (whichever one you wish to play). All players, no matter their rank, can initiate a Short Trip, even though it says it unlocks at rank 9999.

One thing that hasn't changed is that in order to play Short Trips you MUST play with one other player . So grab a friend or meet someone new and get started!

Franklin and Lamar find themselves driving into an ambush--Someone is trying to steal their stash! You must do your best to fight them off and protect your property.

Walkthrough:

• The mission starts with a tour of Dr. Dre's studio. After a long cutscene your characters will smoke some strong weed and have an out-of-body experience, becoming Franklin and Lamar.
• Once you're Franklin and Lamar, get into the car and follow the waypoint.
• When you arrive you'll find an aggressive gang waiting.
• The best way to go about taking them out is for one player to make their way down the alley, hiding behind garbage cans, etc., and the other to go around to the right. This way the enemies will be focused on the first player and the second can take them out while taking very little heat.
• Once everyone outside is toast, be sure to go take all their guns and bullets before you run inside, but keep your pistols equipped for now.
• Inside there will be four more enemies. Kill them easily with your pistols, then run around the room and get extra gear; Guns, bullets, and a first aid kit should be in the shelves. Equip your best weapons for the next part.
• You'll watch another long cutscene, after which you'll have to shoot at moving cars outside the back of a truck. You can't move or hide during this segment--All you can do is aim, shoot, and eat snacks. We recommend keeping your snack menu open so you can eat at any time while shooting.
• Shoot enough to stay alive until the truck parks at its destination.
• This is the final part, in which you'll need to take out more enemies and make your way to the driver of the truck, marked with a red dot.
• The driver will spawn in a different location each time you play, but is most likely on a rooftop somewhere. Watch for ladders and stairs to climb up.
• Once you kill him, grab the keys and you're done.

In this one Franklin and Lamar head out to destroy the product of a rival. You can initiate the mission by entering the Recording Studio after having completed Seed Capital , or by going through the Jobs menu as described above.

• You'll start out as Franklin and Lamar in front of the studio.
• Take the car and the motorcycle to the way point. You can race if you want, but the game will move into a cut scene whenever the first person arrives.
• Be sure to equip your guns as soon as you arrive as you'll only have knives equipped and there are enemies nearby.
• Walk toward the weed warehouse and kill enemies as you go.
• Once everyone is killed, go inside the warehouse where there will be one more to kill.
• Next, grab the fertilizer, pour it around all the weed plants, then shoot fertilizer puddles to light it.
• When the product is destroyed, head back outside where more enemies will be waiting.
• A Karin Technical will drive up. Shoot the guy on the gun and the driver, then steal the vehicle with one of you on the gun. There will be a lot of enemies to take out.
• The best way to go about driving to the next location is to take a detour. This way you won't run into any roadblocks of enemies on the way and in general you'll have less at a time.
• When you arrive at the second warehouse, just keep driving if there are a lot of enemies around. You can circle around several times, taking them out, until it seems safe enough to stop.
• When you're ready, head into the second warehouse.
• There won't be anyone waiting in this one so just destroy the product, then steal the van and head out.
• There will be more enemies on the drive and they'll be very good at maneuvering in your way. Keep going and make sure whoever's riding shotgun is doing their job.
• Once you reach the city the enemies will disappear and you can drive the rest of the way in peace to Franklin's place.

In the third and final Short Trip Lamar has a business prospect to check out and needs Franklin to come along and watch his back. You can initiate the mission by entering the Recording Studio after having completed Fire It Up , or by going through the Jobs menu as described above.

• Once again Franklin and Lamar start outside the studio. This time Lamar is showing off his fancy new van.
• Drive the van to the waypoint destination. On the way Franklin will be dropped off to stake out with a sniper on the top of a crane.
• Watch the cutscene, then be ready to fight. Lots of enemies will arrive right after the scene.
• After several waves of enemies, a helecopter will also arrive. Lamar is fairly exposed so try to take it out quickly.
• Take out all the enemies, then get back in the van.
• As you drive away, a lot more enemies will try to stop you on the road. Meanwhile, the potmobile you're driving will start smoking and get Franklin and Lamar high AF.
• Eventually the enemies will drop off and when you arrive at the waypoint you're done. Enjoy the cutscene!

Grand Theft Auto ‘s incredibly popular online component, GTA Online , continues being one of the most successful live-service games in the world and flexes that fact by debuting brand new music from Dr. Dre in the latest game update, The Contract. We have a full guide to unlock The Contract missions and meet Dr. Dre in-game, but that’s not the end of the story. 

Once you’ve completed the main mission in The Contract, you’ll gain access to a brand new location, in addition to some brand new missions designed with co-op in mind. If you’re looking to wring the most out of The Contract update, then you need to visit this new location and play these new missions. Below you’ll find everything you need to get started with both. How to access Record A Studios, GTA Online

You can find Record A Studios in Rockford Hills as soon as you start the game, but you won’t be able to access the building yet, so let’s not worry about that. 

First, you need to unlock and complete The Contract missions , and we have a complete guide for that. Once you’ve finally met with Dr. Dre and completed his VIP Contract mission, you will be invited to Dr. Dre’s recording studios along with Franklin Clinton and Lamar Davis. This is when you can finally access the inside of Record A Studios in GTA Online .

How to access the Short Trip missions, GTA Online

Before you visit Record A Studios, make sure to pair up with a friend. While the missions in The Contract were very accessible for solo players, the Short Trip series of missions are all designed with two players in mind, so grab a friend before venturing down this path. 

When you first enter Record A Studios, this will trigger the first of the three Short Trip missions. Here’s the name of each: 

• Short Trip – Seed Capital.
• Short Trip – Fire It Up.
• Short Trip – OG Kush.

As you might be able to guess from the titles, these three quests center around Franklin and Lamar’s cannabis stash. When entering these missions the player will assume the role of Franklin or Lamar, making these quests a unique experience in GTA Online . 

In order to start the subsequent Short Trip missions, just visit Lamar Davis’ icon on the map screen.

Short Trip - OG Kush is the third and final Short Trip mission in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of The Contract update.

Two players partake of another LD Organics high in the smoking room in Record A Studios to start their third out-of-body experience as Franklin Clinton and Lamar Davis .

Lamar starts by showing Franklin his new LD Organics delivery van , of which the bodywork appears to be made of pressed plant material. He explains that it is entirely made of "LD Organics patented marijuana bioplastic" and unlike his destroyed Mule , will be empty if someone attempts to break into it to steal his stock, as the weed is the van. Franklin questions Lamar how he's planning to put it in a blunt if it's a part of the van itself, to which Lamar tells him not to worry about it. He was able to make a connection with a celebrity investor for LD Organics and cajoles Franklin to come with him to the meeting at the Redwood Lights Track in Blaine County because he's the only person Lamar can really trust with this.

As Lamar drives, he explains that he wants Franklin to oversee the deal from high above in a nearby construction crane to back him up, just in case. He reveals the celebrity to be "America's lifeguard", actor Jimmy Boston , and believes that his celebrity endorsement would definitely make the LD Organics brand into a big thing, but Franklin also points out that Jimmy is also a prominent member of the Epsilon Program . Franklin warns Lamar of the risks of dealing with such famous people and tells him to be careful of "them Kifflom freaks" but Lamar downplays it. As they are about to reach the construction site, to Franklins' incredulity, Lamar reveals that for self-promotion he posted a selfie of himself at the meeting point as his "top-secret location" on Snapmatic .

Lamar drops off Franklin before reaching the meeting point and a grumbling Franklin climbs the crane and pulls out a scoped Heavy Sniper rifle, while Lamar meets up with Jimmy and his assistant, Marnie Allen . The Epsilonists are pleased with the commercial potential of Lamar's business and compliment him on it, but they propose something they believe will make it even better. Marnie shows Lamar a photoshopped concept image of the van on a tablet: instead of just endorsing LD Organics, Jimmy wants to promote Lamar's weed as "Boston Bakes" with Jimmy's face on it instead, to effectively be Jimmy's own brand of weed. Lamar is annoyed at seeing this as he obviously wanted to spread his own brand name and the fact that the two Epsilonists thought he would be fine with it. Lamar argues that it's his brand as without his product there's nothing to promote, but Jimmy is certain that without his name recognition, Lamar's business is "dead in the water". Watching the conversation through the rifle scope as he listens in through Lamar's headset, Franklin calls Lamar aside and warns him not to go through with this deal as the Vinewood elite always try to take away all the recognition. He either accepts Jimmy's money and "Boston Bakes" or tells him where to shove it and keep his own brand name; he can't have it both ways.

At this point, Franklin suddenly notices a pair of Primo Customs coming towards them, identifying the occupants through the scope as Vagos and warns him about it. Lamar immediately tells Jimmy and Marnie to flee while Franklin and Lamar clear the area of incoming Vagos. On wondering how the gang found them again, Franklin irritably realizes that Lamar must have unwittingly tagged his location in the "top-secret location" selfie and calls him an idiot. When Franklin notes Jimmy and Marnie getting away safely in the car they came in, Lamar now agrees with him that it was a bad deal and that he refuses to rebrand. The Vagos will arrive first in the aforementioned Primo Customs, and for subsequent waves, they arrive in various Sanchez bikes, two Baller LEs with a Technical Custom , and finally in a Frogger helicopter.

Once the area is cleared, Lamar has Franklin return to his van and starts driving back to LD Organics. Franklin questions if they're going to talk about what just happened, but Lamar defends that the Snapmatic selfie was him simply trying to get the word out for his business and that he's learned now how celebs are selfish, and that an illegal business doesn't just turn legal overnight.

Along the way they encounter the rest of the Vagos in several Primo Customs, Voodoo Customs and Moonbeam Customs , while the van starts burning, causing both of them to get high while driving. Initially, they assume that the smell is coming from someone smoking nearby and that the entire city has the smell, but Franklin then realises that it's the van's bodywork on fire. They manage to fight off the Vagos while initially trying to get back to Lamar's warehouse, however, it becomes clear to Lamar that the van won't make it that far.

Lamar, seeing an opportunity, decides to drive the van down Eclipse Boulevard and park beside Tequi-la-la , where the billboards for ROSALÍA are concentrated and let the van continue burning, salvaging the situation as a publicity stunt and let the resulting crowds experience for themselves how great his product is. However, as Lamar is high at the wheel, he can't stop the van in time and ends up crashing it against the corner wall of the club. As people start coming out to see what the noise was and Franklin checks that Lamar is okay, they start feeling the effects of the burning weed and the gathering crowd starts enjoying it. At one onlooker's question of what the van is made of, Lamar introduces the LD Organics brand and starts recommending people pick some up from the city's dispensaries, but then instead invites the crowd to enjoy the high from his burning van for free. A lot of people start taking pictures and Lamar gets the crowd chanting for LD Organics. Lamar then celebrates with Franklin as they both promote LD Organics.

Franklin then mentions that he needs to get home to Tanisha for a family activity, and after a short banter with Lamar offering Franklin an "internship" at LD Organics should he ever need it, Franklin walks away down the street in style as a firetruck and ambulance arrive on the scene, ending the mission.

• After surviving the assault at the track, Franklin tells Lamar that he had better drive over near the crane and pick him up in the van and Lamar agrees to do so, but the Lamar player is unable to move the van until the Franklin player gets into it.
