Don’t move needle, just red zone – this quotation by Guitar Wolf during a recording session shows what Guitar Wolf is all about: Three guys and their dedication to true Rock’n Roll!

In contrast to many other rock bands, Guitar Wolf is truly living the Rock’n Roll lifestyle like no one has ever done before and you can hear that in their songs: Sweat, blood, tears and unfiltered pure energy result in wild and destructive Rock’n Roll anthems! But Rock’n Roll is still not enough for a band like Guitar Wolf and so they launched a whole new genre called Jet Rock’n Roll which depicts a wild mixture of Punk, Rock and Noise!

Guitar Wolf has gained a cult status all around the world, like no other Japanese band before! Their fierce live performances and appearance in the Trash-Rock’n Roll movie Wild Zero caused a lot of attention all over the world.

Guitar Wolf are idolized back in their home country of Japan because of the fact that their music is very extreme and very loud; just like Rock’n roll should be, plus add to this that they look super-cool in their shades and leathers and voila you have success!

Guitar Wolf were formed in 1987 by Seiji and Billy and after a while Toru joined their black leather clad ranks. They started pushing the boundaries of society’s accepted vision of one-dimensional rock trio. With this particular band, style is as important as sound and as a result their fanbase across the world has grown massively since their inception.

Guitar Wolf were courted from across the pond and in 1993 Goner Records, an independent label based in Memphis, USA released Guitar Wolf’s debut album ‘Wolf Rock’ . After that, they signed up with another independent label in the USA, namely Matador Records. Their home breakthrough occurred in 1997, when they debuted with the major label Ki/oon Records in Japan and they released ‘Planet Of The Wolves’ at the same time.

To date, they have unleashed over a dozen long players, most notably their 2019 10-track offering ‘Love & Jett’ , which features tracks from a mere 1 minute 49 seconds right up all the way to 3 minutes and 7 seconds! You get the picture! Hard, loud, fast and short! Click HERE to watch the video for one of the longer tracks – which to me sounds as if the Dead Kennedys have moved to Japan!

Guitar Wolf now operate on a worldwide level having played gigs all over the planet from Japan, USA, South America, Australia and all across Europe. Check out this lively video of them in concert down under HERE .

Guitar Wolf are coming to the UK for a select 7 date tour this month, kicking off in London on Saturday 21st October, then heading to Newcastle, Hull, Glasgow, Leeds, Brighton and finishing in Folkestone on 27th October, which is the day after they appear at The Hope & Ruin on Queens Road courtesy of Stay Sick promoters.

Get ready for a roaring ride: Guitar Wolf’s European tour takes place in October and November

Francisca Hagen

© Guitar Wolf

The men behind legendary rock’n’roll band Guitar Wolf love to travel to Europe for a tour to delight music fans with their gritty and loud garage rock and this year is no different, as they have a European tour planned for October and November. The rock’n’roll band will kick off the tour in the United Kingdom on 21 October and then continue their way across continental Europe at the end of that month. It will be another extensive European tour for the three-member band from Tokyo.

Officially, this tour was announced back in April by French tour organisation Rockin’ Dogs and Guitar Wolf fans have known this news for a long time. At the time of the announcement, not all tour dates had been announced and it seems that more shows will be added to the schedule. But it is now known that in addition to the United Kingdom, the countries in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, and Austria will be part of Guitar Wolf’s European tour. Earlier this year, Guitar Wolf released a live album from Toru (Drum Wolf’s) last gig in March 2022, titled BLACK LEATHER BOMB LIVE at WWWX . Currently, the band consists of guitarist and vocalist Seiji, bassist Gotz and drummer Takuro.

Guitar Wolf

Guitar Wolf are the keepers of all blasted, hard, spazzed out songs, building a whole life on the bedrock of hyperactive RNR exhilaration.  This Japanese power-trio has been stupefying audiences at home and on the road since the late ’80s.  In May 2019, Guitar Wolf released their 13 th full-length album “ LOVE&JETT” on Third Man Records , followed by a US tour focused on the East Coast and UK/EU tour. In Fall 2020, Guitar Wolf is coming back to the US to tour the West Coast + to play “LOVE&JETT” live loud.

“LOVE&JETT ” is full of Guitar Wolf’s sweet, sweet love songs, all recorded in Japan.  This is the first album recorded with newest Bass Wolf (IV), Gotz, who joined the band in 2018.  While each song’s words (apart from a handful of song titles, 1-2-3-4’s plus a clever cover of Spencer Davis Group’s “Gimme some Lovin’”) punch out in their Native Japanese, the adoring English-speaking public will be granted an insert enclosed in Each LP and CD with all lyrics translated to English.  (That means NO excuses to not have a haphazard bilingual sing-along on the tour.). The energy explodes on the scene with the title track’s opening 1-2 bass-snare piston-fire and truly does not let up at any point on the full album.  Guitar Wolf Seiji, Drum Wolf Toru, and Bass Wolf Gotz shine especially bright on “Sex Jaguar’, barely clocking in just in 2 minutes with chorus catchphrases and feline roars.

So with your heart flying high and faster than Mach speed, the untouchable legends Guitar Wolf are back to rush you away into another dimension.

Alpha Wolf: “We’ve always wanted to do this, and now we’re finally at the stage where we can”

With some of their most vicious music yet on the horizon, Alpha Wolf are gearing up to dominate Australia’s metalcore scene. First on the agenda: the biggest tour the genre’s seen here in years

Alpha Wolf. Credit: Press/Supplied

No bands spur tours more off-the-rails than those in Australian metalcore. The 2000s were defined by sprawling, months-long road tours with back-to-back shows in 20-plus towns, a good deal of which would read like gibberish to the everyday city slicker. In the 2010s, there evolved somewhat of an unspoken contest between the bands, to see who could reel in the most insane supports. This led to a trend where, thanks to self-funded runs and the power of the internet, up-and-coming acts could make a name for themselves by headlining over (much more popular) international bands, using those names on the poster as the tour’s primary selling points.

Thanks in no short part to the COVID-19 pandemic, those batshit mental tours came to a fiery death at the turn of the new decade. Border restrictions made it impossible to fly in those big-ticket foreigners. Varying state guidelines made it impossible to organise those serpentine itineraries. And of course, the general decimation of the live music industry made it impossible to fund – let alone embark on – tours in general. But with the world slowly easing back into normalcy, one band – Tasmania-native, Melbourne-based moshlords Alpha Wolf – have set their sights on an ambitious return to the glory days of unapologetically wild metalcore tours.

Next month, they’re heading out on a nine-date stint dubbed The Metalcore Snitches Tour, hitting stages in Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. In tow, they’ll have US heavyweights Fit For A King and Great American Ghost, as well as the Japanese trailblazers in Paledusk. And while fans can expect an onslaught of scorchers from the band’s 2020 album, A Quiet Place To Die, they can also expect Alpha Wolf to bust out some brutal new tunes, previewing a new record for release later this year.

Ahead of the tour’s sure-to-be explosive start, Australian Guitar sat down with lead axeman Scott Simpson to get the lowdown on how Alpha Wolf are making 2022 their bitch.

How does it feel to be headlining the biggest metalcore tour that Australia’s seen this decade? This is the tour we’ve wanted to do since 2020. We’ve had, like, four or five iterations of this it ready to be announced, but obviously because of COVID, we had to keep pushing it back and back. And then a few months ago, we were just like, “F*** it, we’re just going to announce it – who knows if it’s gonna happen, but these are the dates, we’re announcing them.” Fingers crossed [laughs]. We just really wanted to do a tour like the ones we grew up going to – the Parkway Drives, the f***ing Amity Afflictions, they always brought out those big international packages. We’ve always wanted to do that, and now we’re finally the stage where we can do that. Hopefully this is just the first of many big tours to come.

I feel like a tour of this caliber would’ve taken so much effort to pull off. Yeah, shoutout to Ash [Hull] at Destroy All Lines – he’s our booking agent, and the poor feller has gone through so many reiterations of this and put together so many new dates. It was a mammoth effort to get something like this in motion, and it’s all thanks to him, really. We just put forward the bands we want to play with, and then he figures out all the hard stuff [laughs].

We know you’ll be playing new music on the run. What can we look forward to? Is it a one-off track, or is there a new album on the way? It’s not album three, but it’s not a standalone track either. I don’t want to give too much away, because it’s really cool – it’s something we’ve been working on for a little bit now. I’ll leave it at that.

So going from A Quiet Place To Die into this elusive new chapter of Alpha Wolf, how did you want to really kick things up to the next level? It’s kind of difficult to put into words how it happened, moreso just because A Quiet Place To Die was based on our experiences touring, playing the earlier songs live and experiencing the world on the back of [2017’s Mono], realising what worked and what didn’t work, and then putting what worked on steroids. But we couldn’t do that again after we put A Quiet Place To Die out, because we released that album from our bedrooms in lockdown. We didn’t get to play those songs live for nearly 12 months after they came out, and at that stage we’d already started writing the new stuff.

I’d say it’s like the best parts of [A Quiet Place To Die], but better. We’re trying to step into some new territory, while still keeping what it is we do best. We never want to release the same album twice, that’s for sure. We’re always going to be a heavy band, so it’s definitely going to be heavy.

Are you still running with your two ESP LTDs? Yes! They’re modded with Fishman pickups and EverTune bridges, and the baritone scale length as well. That triple combo – the baritone scale, Fishmans and EverTunes – we can’t play without it. That’s kind of like the Alpha Wolf sound.

You’ve said in the past that the EverTune bridges are as important as the guitars themselves. Why is that? I still back that claim. We play in very low tunings, like drop G, drop F – we have a song that goes down to double drop B sharp – so with the EverTune bridge, the way it handles keeping in tune is a total game-changer for us. We go out onstage and we don’t have to check our tuning once in the entire set. They just hold, because that’s what they’re made to do. We also sweat a crazy amount when we play, and that always makes the guitar go out of tune so quickly, especially when it’s tuned that low. Yeah, I’d say the EverTune is even more important than the guitars I play. I wouldn’t play without one anymore, to be honest.

As far as the rig goes, you play with a mix of the Kemper effects and analogue pedals, don’t you? Yeah, so aside from the whammy, all of the pedals are just there for a bit of fun, really. We just we like to make a little bit of noise here and there – I usually swap out most of those pedals every tour, just so I can play around with different ones that make a lot of noise and do really stupid shit. The Kemper is there for all of our main tones, who we have to thank Lance Prenc [of Prenc Audio], our sound engineer, for. We use the album tones – it’s literally just a copy of the tones we play on the albums.

So as far as those pedals go, what are your favourites at the moment? The one I’ve kept docked for a hot minute is... I can’t actually remember the brand name. It’s this dirt-cheap, $30 delay pedal that I’ve maxxed out every setting on, so I can just turn the delay knob and have it make these really stupid noises. There’s usually a chorus and a flanger [on the pedalboard] too, with all the settings at full blast on those as well. I also have a Behringer multi-effect units, which is horrible – it sounds disgusting – but when you turn everything on together, it sounds great.

Anything that makes a cool noise is sick. I actually broke my DigiTech Whammy on the last tour we did – it just stopped working all of a sudden, so I took it off my ‘board, and now we have a EHX Pitch Fork+. That thing is really, really cool – we use it in the same way we used the Whammy, but it just sounds way dirtier and way grosser, which is exactly what we wanted. So we’ve got a few songs in the works that rely on that pedal heavily in different ways. I think that’s going to be the one pedal that stays on the ‘board, and then everything else we’ll just swap out all the time.

In May 2019, Guitar Wolf released their 13 th full-length album “LOVE&JETT” on Third Man Records, followed by a US tour focused on the East Coast and UK/EU tour. In Spring 2024, Guitar Wolf is coming back to the US to tour North America to play “LOVE&JETT” live loud. “LOVE&JETT” is full of Guitar Wolf’s sweet, sweet love songs, all recorded in Japan. (That means NO excuses to not have a haphazard bilingual sing-along on the tour.) The energy explodes on the scene with the title track’s opening 1-2 bass-snare piston-fire and truly does not let up at any point on the full album. PERFORMING AT PUNK ROCK BOWLING AS WELL AS OTHER UNDESIRABLE VENUES IN MAY / JUNE 2024!

Taylor Swift’s expected Eras Tour setlist for UK as Paris gig reveals huge changes

Taylor Swift performs new setlist with TTPD at The Eras Tour in Paris

The Lover house is burned down, Speak Now is fighting for her life, and we’re all afraid of little old Taylor Swift as she overhauls her Eras Tour setlist.

As the 34-year-old superstar kicked off the European leg of her tour in Paris, fans gathered around livestreams and X to discover what she had in store.

Paris night one didn’t disappoint and ticket chaos was forgiven as the Tortured Poets Department took centre stage and the entire Eras Tour was changed, from bodysuits to choreography.

Fans had already speculated there might be a switch up after she released the Eras Tour film before her tour had finished but this was more than our wildest dreams.

It’s no surprise that Taylor has added in the new album but at already three and a half hours long , some songs were left on the cutting room floor.

The Archer, tis the damn season, and even the last great American dynasty were all brutally ripped from the setlist.

New glittering bodysuits and dresses were rolled out for every era except Reputation, which is the last in the album in the show to get it’s Taylor’s Version.

So far no vault track appears on her main setlist, only core album songs have a permanent place on the Eras Tour.

Swifties have been left in utter disbelief as Folklore and Evermore were combined into one era, known as the sisters era, to keep time down.

Speak Now was reduced back down to one song — RIP Long Live — and debut remains reserved for surprise songs in the acoustic set.

Let’s be honest Taylor could perform for six hours and fans would still want more but even she would probably find that exhausting.

It’s been a whirlwind 24hours for Swifties so lets see what the setlist has been left looking like and what that means for the UK.

We’re still going strong opening with Lover but even her seventh studio album and big opener couldn’t survive Taylor’s great setlist war. We’ll miss you, The Archer.

  • Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince
  • Cruel Summer
  • You Need To Calm Down

Fearless Era

The album that made her a superstar remains unscathed but since there were only three songs for this era it’s hardly surprising.

However, a new tasseled bodysuit was revealed and it looks incredibly similar to one worn on the Our Song hitmaker’s original Fearless tour in 2009.

  • You Belong With Me

In a position switch up, the setlist now moved from Fearless into Red instead of evermore but the songs remain unchanged and All Too Well remains firmly in pride of place.

  • We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
  • I Knew You Were Trouble
  • All Too Well (10 Minute Version)

Speak Now Era

Justice for Speak Now, already balding but now scalped as Long Live has been once more removed.

We’re begging Taylor, I will sacrifice I Knew You Were Trouble for just one more purple painted dream.

Reputation Era

Yet to have it’s Taylor’s Version released, Reputation remains unchanged on the mammoth set but has been moved to after Red and Speak Now rather than before.

It’s also the only section that has not had an outfit change, the day that red and black bodysuit goes we’re all going to lose our minds.

  • …Ready For It?
  • Don’t Blame Me
  • Look What You Made Me Do

Folklore/Evermore Era

Once separate totalling 12 songs, Taylor’s lockdown albums have been combined into one – with a lot of casualties.

‘We have reunited the sister albums,’ the singer told the Paris crowd, joking it could be called ‘everlore’ or ‘folkmore’.

Removed from the setlist are: Tis the damn season, the last great american dynasty, invisible string, and tolerate it.

  • Cardigan (folklore)
  • Betty (folklore)
  • Champagne Problems (evermore)
  • August (folklore)
  • Illicit Affairs (folklore)
  • My Tears Ricochet (folklore)
  • Marjorie (evermore)
  • Willow (evermore)

Mother’s favourite child remains safe and sound with no changes and still following the Folklore set. Honestly, we would have loved to see some of this swapped out for the vault tracks which stormed the charts last year.

Bad Blood remains on the setlist, we wonder if Kendrick Lamar is free to come do a surprise live feature…

  • Blank Space
  • Shake It Off
  • Wildest Dreams

The Tortured Poets Department

Initially Swifties weren’t sure if this would be added and if so how could the 31 tracks possibly be whittled down into just a handful.

A new era brings blessings of brand new outfits, a floating stage set piece, gun shot choreography, and of course some insane vocal moments.

Taylor has spoken and these are (probably) her favourites off TTPD.

  • But Daddy I Love Him
  • So High School
  • Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me
  • The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
  • I Can Do It with a Broken Heart

The stage she’s gliding around on during Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? IS A MIRROR!!!!! The audience can see themself in the mirror as she’s singing “You caged me and then you called me crazy. Surprise songs

Each night Taylor plays two surprise songs from her vast discography, these have included This Love and Clean from 1989 and Dear John and Last Kiss from Speak Now.

She’s taken to doing mashups of the tracks, sometimes leading to fan speculation that the lyrics are somehow intertwined in inspiration.

Also known as the acoustic set, Paris night one fans were (obviously) treated to Paris from her album Midnights played on piano and loml on guitar from TTPD.

Midnights Era

Closing out the show is the iconic era which gave us ‘Karma is the guy on the chiefs ’ and that chair choreography — Midnights.

Her 2022 album gets sparkling new outfits, although the Lavender Haze fluffy lilac jacket has not been swapped out.

  • Lavender Haze
  • Midnight Rain
  • Vigilante Shit

What is the old Eras Tour setlist?

With so many changes, here’s what Taylor’s Eras Tour used to look like for a setlist run

  • tis the damn season
  • champagne problems
  • tolerate it
  • invisible string
  • the last great american dynasty
  • illicit affairs
  • my tears ricochet

When is the Eras Tour in the UK?

The Eras Tour will come to the UK next month , beginning in Edinburgh for three nights before heading to Liverpool, Cardiff, and London .

Who knows what Taylor will have in store for fans given her penchant for keeping everyone on their toes.

Given the huge overhaul, this is likely to be the setlist for the UK gigs and all her European dates but might have minor tweaks thrown in.

Of course, if you’re sad your favourite track is not on there is always a chance it could be one of the surprise songs as she has no rules around what she can and can’t sing here.

We’re hoping for Electric Touch, Now That We Don’t Talk, The Black Dog , or Hits Different but that tells you far too much about us.

What is Paramore's Eras Tour setlist?

The iconic pop punk band Paramore will be opening for Taylor Swift at the UK gigs and they revealed their setlist in Paris.

Of course, it is much shorter but still packed with hits from the chart-topping band, fronted by Taylor’s long time friend Hayley Williams.

Things To Do

Music + concerts, music + concerts | how the uk duo mount kimbie reconnected in southern california’s yucca valley, the british indie-electronic group, which took a five-year break before reuniting, will bring its dumb guitar tour to the fonda theatre on saturday, may 18..

guitar wolf uk tour

“I’ve gotten a lot better with the anxiety and nervousness of playing live these days,” Maker shared over a phone call before the duo hit the stage at La Cigale in Paris. “I had to find ways to get out of my head because I used to hate going on stage to play. But I’ve learned to disconnect from what we’re doing a little bit because once you’re up there, you can’t get out of it, so I’ve learned to train myself on that.

“Last night, we played in Amsterdam, and the crowd was singing back our lyrics, which is pretty mental for us because we haven’t really made music like that,” Maker continued

The duo got its start in the London underground electronic music scene, forming what the world knows now as Mount Kimbie nearly 15 years ago. These days, the group is influenced by everything, from techno to dubstep, post-punk to hip-hop, R&B to ambient lo-fi and a handful of uncut DJ mixes that have floated throughout the internet, all intertwining to make up a sound the two consider “forever changing,” a superpower of sorts since having a definite sound has never been Mount Kimbie’s niche.

However, in 2016 the band announced it would go on hiatus; the two felt it was time to dabble in other ventures while allowing each other to grow. That break ended up lasting five years during which Campos delved into DJ culture and Maker produced the likes of Rosalía and SZA.

Reuniting in 2021, the group explored new musical territory for the newest record “The Sunset Violent.” The nine-track record, released in April of this year, is a mix of shoegaze and synthesized rock created while the duo were in Yucca Valley, California, a departure from its London roots. They felt it was necessary to seek refuge in the desert landscape, seeking peace, tranquility and as “a last minute effort to get away from all distractions.”

In the scorching summer heat, there wasn’t a clear goal, only the intent to potentially produce a track or two. But as they settled into a secluded Airbnb for six weeks, it became the ideal setting for crafting a California-tinged record, giving birth to what the world now knows as “The Sunset Violent.”

“The desert is probably the best place you could go when you want to get away,” Campos said. “We didn’t have a goal go out there; it was initially just to try and basically to come up with some ideas and we hadn’t worked together for about five years at this point. So there was quite a lot of uncertainty about what we were going to do and whether it was even going to be any good. But the landscape out there provided way more for us than we expected; it’s a very surreal place. It’s completely different from where we’re from and the music we make that was usually done in London. It was also the first time we were abroad to write. It was the perfect canvas and environment to write in, especially that the guitar was such a loud voice in this record, it made sense.”

Campos found himself drawn to the home radio, turning the knob that always happen to land on the local country music station. Inspired by the genre’s use of catchy melodies and profound lyricism, it influenced the direction the group was taking. “All of these elements combined created a rich tapestry of visuals that deeply influenced the entire body of work we created.”

The band, now expanded to a four-piece with the addition of Andrea Balency-Béarn and Marc Pell, is currently embarking on the Dumb Guitar Tour across the globe. The 15-date run includes a stop at The Fonda Theatre, originally slated for the El Rey. However, due to high fan demand for tickets, the venue size was expanded.

“The last time we played in Los Angeles was at the Masonic Lodge over at Hollywood Cemetery, and that felt like ages ago for us,” Maker shared with a laugh. “It’s hard to keep up with the times at this point. But having the interest that we do from the States in such a healthy way that we’ve seen over the years and especially with the comeback of this release has been so interesting and amazing for us to watch.”

For both Maker and Campos, performing in Southern California is a significant full-circle moment. For them, it’s an homage, a tribute and an opportunity to reconnect with the roots that initiated “The Sunset Violent.”

“Even the last three nights, there’s like a different level of understanding between us all as a band and when you get to the last few months you to start to really communicate in a nonverbal where you’re on stage kind of sharing experiences through music, it takes on another life,” Campos said. “And I think there’s something really special when it comes to sharing that, especially with an audience and certainly an area that allowed us to create what we do. I think that’s the whole point of it all for us.”
