HP USB-C Universal Hub Display ports don't work after update to Windows 11

Hi I hope someone can help,

Ever since I updated my Windows10 to Windows11 my USB-C universal hubs no longer work. I have two, one set up in a home office with dual monitors and the other in the spare room with a single monitor (both my wife and I are now working from home). They worked absolutely fine with the same brand new laptop prior to the update but no more. They also still work absolutely fine with my wifes work laptop and my work laptop both running Windows 10 still.

I have been through Windows support and reinstalled windows as well as trying to update the driver but nothing works. When I clear the driver and connect the hub the display port tries to connect several times flickering between and then it disables the adapter and won't connect.

Any ideas as I really need to be able to work on the larger screen. The usb devices connected through the hub work fine it is just the displays that won't.

I know it's an annoying problem, don't worry I will be there till it solved.

Since you mentioned that you have been reinstalled Windows.

In order to check the compatibility, can you tell me which version you are using now? Windows 11 or Windows 10.

Also after you cleared the driver,have you download a new one?

I have reinstalled both Windows 11 and the drivers fresh and it hasn’t worked

According to your description I think that your USB-C universal hubs are not compatible with Windows 11.

I would recommend you to reinstall your system to Windows 10 and I know it's a really troublesome process.

So, before you start. I suggest you that if it possible try to check whether it still not work in another Windows 11 device.

If the same problem happen, we can make sure that the reason is the compatibility of Windows 11.

I hope the above methods can help you.

If the problem persists, don't worry I will be there always till it solved.

How do I reverse windows back to 10 then?

I couldn’t roll back because it has been on Microsoft 11 for too long so I had to do a fresh install which was rather frustrating.

Perhaps more frustrating is the fact that having completed the fresh install the same error persists and my monitors do not connect through the usb c hub. The same hub they used to connect through absolutely fine before any update was run 😞☹️

I would recommend you to install Windows 10 now.

Since your computer has been on Microsoft 11 for a long time. I'm so sorry that If you have installed Windows 11 for more than 10 days, you cannot roll back to Windows 10 without damage. So, before you start, please don't forget to backup all your important information.

Please follow next steps:

Before you start.

1. Please make sure you have backed up all data on your PC, a clean install will erase all files on your PC .

2. Please disconnect all external devices, except mouse, keyboard and network cable.

Create installation media for Windows.

Here's what you'll need:

A PC with a reliable internet connection. The download time will vary, depending on your internet connection.

A USB flash drive or DVD. A blank USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of space, or a blank DVD (and DVD burner). We recommend using a blank USB or blank DVD because any content on it will be deleted. When burning a DVD from an ISO file, if you're told the disc image file is too large, you'll need to use dual layer (DL) DVD media.

A product key. Your 25-character product key (not required for digital licenses). For help finding it, go to Find your Windows product key .

I’ve done this and the laptop is back on windows 10 but still won’t connect to the hub display ports. Same error as windows 11 but this wasn’t an issue prior to upgrading to windows 11 originally. How can this be? The laptop connected fine before I started upgrading!!

Did you check at your computer manufacturer's website for the driver for this hub or docking station? Update the chipset drivers while you are there. Just update everything pretty much.

For example, if it's a hub (docking station) that connects using a thunderbolt port then you need to download and install the latest Thunderbolt Controller Driver. I use this one for Win11: Intel Thunderbolt Driver for Windows 11 (64-bit)

Yep did that. It’s a HP usb-c hub and I downloaded the latest drivers directly from the site. Still hasn’t worked

Normally this problem can be solved by reinstalling Windows 10, If it's not working I think there is still something wrong with the driver.

You mentioned your wife's computer working fine with it, sometimes, the version of the driver also affects compatibility with the system.

Please try the following steps to find the information of your driver to compare with your wives.

Search the Control Panel > Open Device Manager > Find the USB-C universal hubs > Click Properties and compare the relevant driver information

If there are some differences, you can try to download the same version of the driver with your wives.

If the problem persists, don't worry I will be there always till it is solved.
