About Madeira Island The name of the Island comes from the portuguese word for “wood” because all of its beautiful and ancient trees. It was discovered in 1419, is located in the Atlantic Ocean and is also known as the Pearl of the Atlantic because of its beauty. It’s 57Km long and 22Km wide with a population of 270,000 habitants. The highest mountain is the Pico Ruivo with na altitude of 1862m. Madeira Island is of volcanic origin, with very accentuated cliffs and mountains, full of breathtaking landscapes.

The tours are made in different languages: Portuguese, English, French, Italian and Spanish

The explanations given during the tour are about the history of Madeira Island in general and specific talks about the places we visit. We share with you all the information about villages, the Laurissilva forest, plants, flowers and animals that inhabit the Island and also the Levadas, which are the channels of water that cross the mountains (which we can hike in one of our Jeep and Minivan tours). The tours are more personalized and made in small groups from 2 to 6 people, in the case of being a family or a group of friends we accept reservations up to 8 people. We never go in a caravan with other cars, it’s only you guys, the Defender Td5 and the guide. We always try, whenever possible, to avoid places with too many people, avoiding large concentrations of tourists.

We stop for lunch in a typical restaurant where you can taste typical food,like the black scabbard fish (Espada Preta), limpets (Lapas), and our the typical garlic bread Bolo de Caco.

In summer time with the sun inviting you to jump in the water and take a swim, and since we do not want to waste time having lunch in the restaurant, we stop to buy some sandwiches and drinks and then go directly to the Natural Pools of the Village of Porto Moniz or the Natural Pools in the Village of Seixal, to make a picnic and go for a swim (on our Amazing West Tour) All tours have a predefined itinerary of places to visit, but they can be changed due to the weather. We will always make the trip in a flexible way to go to places where the weather is better, where everyone can see and enjoy in the best way Madeira Island.

The 4x4 Tours are made only with the real machine, a Land Rover Defender 110 Td5, which is built to cross all the off-road hidden trails of the Island, perfectly made for all those who like adventure and go where the other’s can’t go, and also in a confortable and stylish way.

In this Madeira Jeep tour we have a little bit of everything; Sea, Mountains, Waterfalls and Natural Pools. We depart Funchal for Câmara de Lobos. After this we climb up to the cliff of Cabo Girão, 580m above of sea level, with an amazing glass platform, viewing some of the most beautiful landscapes of the Island. We continue to Lugar de Baixo, where we begin our adventure from sea level to the mountains climbing through ancient paths where we can see how the local people live and how they work the terraces of banana trees, vineyards among other types of agriculture. We will pass through the forest, mountains and valleys until we reach the Loch of the Moor with its magnificent view to the valley of Encumeada and Serra de Água. We pass through Bica da Cana, Paul da Serra and Fanal always with beautiful views of the valleys and mountains. When we reach the village of Ribeira da Janela we can see the amazing Northwest coast of the Island. We descend to sea level to visit the coast and enjoy the ocean view. Then we will go to Vila do Porto Moniz where we stop for lunch, and perhaps enjoy swimming in the Natural Pools. In the second part of our Jeep tour we leave Porto Moniz for the Vilage of Seixal and visit the waterfall of the Véu da Noiva and then on to São Vicente.

Old Forest - East Tour

On this tour we leave Funchal in the direction of the village da Camacha where we can visit the basketwork factory. We then continue through Vale Paraíso towards Poiso with an altitude of 1412m and then climb through the mountains to Pico do Arieiro at a height of 1818m. This is one of the most beautiful places with breathtaking views of the island of Madeira. We stay here for a while and walk a little. We then descend to Ribeiro Frio where we are in the Laurissilva Forest and we visit the trout nursery. We continue our adventure along old paths passing Cedro Gordo and Cruzinhas until we reach the Village de Santana where we will visit the typical straw houses (Colmo). After this stop we descend to the village of Faial with amazing views down to the sea and then continue towards Ponta de São Lourenço in the east of Madeira. This part of the Island is much drier and arid, but with a unique beauty due to its cliffs and colors.

We leave from Funchal to Ponta do Sol and begin our adventure at sea level ascending the mountains of the Island of Madeira, along old paths where we can see the terraces with banana trees and other types of agriculture.

We climb through the forest until we reach the plateau of Paul da Serra, passing Pico da Urze and Rabaçal where we can enjoy the magnificent view of the valleys. When we arrive at Fonte do Bispo we descend to the village of Ponta do Pargo with its Lighthouse, cliffs and dazzling views. We then go to the village of Fajã da Ovelha where we pass between cliffs and valleys down to the sea always with incredible landscapes. We park in the Village of Paul do Mar, where we can enjoy a walking tour by the sea and have lunch. Later we head for the very special and beautiful village of Jardim do Mar and then on to Calheta with its golden sandy beach.

€35 HALF DAY

We start from Funchal towards Garajau where the statue of Christ the King stands high up on the cliff. The view of the beach below and across to the city of Funchal really is a sight that should not to be missed. Then we continue to Santa Cruz and climb the Morena, with spectacular views of the mountains, the cliffs and the sea. We then continue on towards Lamaceiros passing by the old Laurissilva forest where we can enjoy walking a little along a Levada (water channel). Later we continue to the viewpoint of Portela where we can see the Village of Porto da Cruz. From Portela we descend down to the sea and towards Machico.

We depart from Funchal towards the São Vicente on the north coast of the island. Here we begin our adventure along the coast towards the village of Ponta Delgada. At the viewpont we can enjoy a unique view to the north coast and mountains. We then continue along the old paths and pass through the village of Boaventura and Arco de Jorge. Our adventure takes us to the heart of the island through the forest with impressive views and we descend the mountain through the valleys towards the sea and the beach of São Jorge. We continue towards Santana visiting the historical thatched roof houses. In the second part of the tour we head to the village of Porto da Cruz, where we visit the sugar cane mills to see the manufacture and distillation of white rum and sugar cane honey. We then head to the Portela viewpoint with its magnificent views and begin to descend towards the sea and the city of Machico.

A half-day tour, which begins in Funchal heading towards the famouse fishing village of Câmara de Lobos with colorful fishing boats docked in the harbor. After this stop, we continue on to Estreito Câmara de Lobos passing by many paths with views of the vineyards until we reach Fajã das Galinhas. Here we take a break to admire the astonishing views of the mountains and valleys. Next place to visit is the viewpoint of Boca dos Namorados, which overlooks Curral das Freiras (Valley of the Nuns). Through the mountains, we press on to Jardim da Serra for a coffee break or to taste the famous regional drink (Poncha). The tour finishes in Cabo Girão, the second highest cliff in Europe with a glass platform enriched by amazing views.

We start this tour in Funchal at the most beautiful viewpoints, where we can enjoy the view over the Funchal harbor. The lights at night have a dazzling effectand are really hypnotizing. Afterwards, we head on to Garajau, to visit the statue Cristo Rei, where you can appreciate the wonderful views of Funchal. We then stop for a coffee or a delicious Poncha!

Sunrise & Sunset €150

SUNRISE: This tour starts very early as we climb from Funchal to Pico do Areeiro (1818m) where we await the sunrise. This moment is really special and breathtaking, everything seems touched by a golden light. Next, we visit Poiso and Ribeiro Frio for a coffee and then we go ahead to Porto da Cruz, where we do a small walk by the sea. Later, we visit Portela where you can enjoy the fantastic landscapes of valleys and mountains and we finish in Machico. SUNSET: Let's go on an adventure to enjoy the beautiful sunset in Paul do Mar.

We had a great holiday this tour we chose was perfect. The Hotel was good staff excellent food good It was a shame the lift was not working. I did ask for a downstairs room but unfortunately we had to go up three flights of stairs. Martin our bus driver was excellent. We did find there was too many comfort stops. We have three more trips booked with Just Go and we are looking forward to them.

holiday in Weston Super Mare

the driver helped make this holiday enjoyable. Though the Hotel felt claustrophobic in the passageways as there seemed to be no more than a metre wide.Food was passable,though four of the guests had stomach upsets.

The hotel was too far from Highclere…

The hotel was too far from Highclere castle the restaurant was very poor regarding food and drink choices. Rooms were ok. We had no information on where we were going on the Thursday! The pick ups were disorganised by the office, cancellations not fed through to the driver. The driver was brilliant.

We were picked up in Burgess Hill and…

We were picked up in Burgess Hill and then suffered an horrific journey along the South Coast picking up folk that was not in the direction we were heading for? This was NOT an "en route pickup program". The trip took us 5 hours on the coach to reach our hotel in Swindon. As you may appreciate, we will not book another nightmare holiday with "Just Go" Had I have known the program I would not have booked the trip.

I had a problem trying to book online so phoned Just Go to book. Only a short wait to get through to Customer Services. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and professional dealing with my booking. Excellent service.

Scottish trip

Throughly enjoyed this holiday which was helped by the informative tour guide and competent bus driver. We were sad to have missed out on going on the Jacobite train, which was running again by the time we arrived but sadly, not to be. We did at least experience one nostalgic steam train. The hotel was ideally based, not too far from the town Fort William and would be ideal for a walking holiday. Food was lovely, hotel was clean, although the lift was out of action throughout our stay but did not affect us Would stay there again, and hopefully get a loch view! :D

The holiday was great except for the interchange where we swapped to another coach as it takes too long and there was a lot of confusion as to which coach people were meant to get on.If we had stayed on the couch we were picked up on we could have been nearer to the hotel earlier.

I have not been on the holiday yet, but I will not be best pleased if like last time a mini bus picks us up to take us all the way into Cornwall only to come back up the same road as there is only one way to get out of Cornwall back into Plymouth on the coach.

My cousin died unexpectedly on 1st…

My cousin died unexpectedly on 1st April. It was devastating for my aunt. The only time we could have the funeral (as crem fully booked plus closing for refurb) was 2nd May. This date was when my aunt and I were due to be away. I called the company twice and both times was treated appallingly. They refused to change the dates or offer a refund and told me to find someone else to go! For the first time in my life , as we were in UK, I didn’t get insurance. Totally disgusted with the lack of compassion.

A lovely overnight break to see Andre…

A lovely overnight break to see Andre Rieu in Liverpool.Excellent driver, comfortable coach,couldn't fault choice of hotel,everywhere clean and uncluttered.Everyone friendly and helpful.Only downside is long journey to do both ways in two days but regular comfort stops.Would like to visit Liverpool again but maybe two night stay.Would highly recommend.

We have just returned from the Belfast

We have just returned from the Belfast, Titanic Experience, Montains of Mourne & Giants Causway tour. It was very well organised by our tour manager Camilla and our coach driver Gwen, they did a great job shepherding us around in a safe and pleasant manner. The La Mon Hotel was a lovely place to stay, with great rooms and facilities, sadly I feel let done by the evening meals which were rather poor quality. Also it might help to update the information to passengers that the meeting point at Dublin Airport has changed from the AMT coffee bar to Insomnia which would stop passengers wandering up and down the airport looking for it

Yes, saw this thread but hoped I could find someone who had used the company more recently.

Thank you. I thought they looked pretty good on their website but was put off by the problems highlighted on this forum. It's good to have another view.

I used Just Go Russia in November 2012 for a tailor made trip taking the train from St Petersburg to Mongolia and on to Beijing stopping off at various locations along the way. They take care of every aspect of the trip and our complicated itinerary ran like clockwork - amazing given the distance we went and the number of stops we had. They were as competitively priced as companies offering a lesser service. Just Go Russia were professional, thorough and faultless from start to finish and I would use them again without hesitation. In fact, I'm about to contact them about another trip later this year.

Dear Hilary678, thank you very much for your positive review of Go Russia and your comments. Just some words regarding your feedback.

Change of time during first day of excursions – as you are probably aware we operate small groups and split groups between the guides if the group size is going to be big. Initially you were allocated to a different group who started tours slightly later but this group eventually got bigger as last minute there were some other people joining the tours and as your party was four people we thought it would be more practical for you to do the tours with a different smaller group, so we have moved your tour start time to an earlier departure time from the hotel and we advised you of this via email. Otherwise we could have got a complaint from you saying that we form big groups and do not keep our promises. We normally email all final documents 10 – 7 days before departure (yours were emailed 8 days before the tour start date), and we try to keep changes after this to an absolute minimum, if any. We dislike changes either. But sometimes changes are required, and we apologise for any inconvenience. As written in the final documents, a meeting with our representative is included on your tour programme, this person checks all customers arrangements. Given recent feedbacks we will make this a more formal meeting.

Circus – there are indeed two circuses in Moscow and both use animals. We know that some people from the west are against any performances using animals. We booked tickets for the circus that is in the city centre and is easier to get to.

Peterhof – your itinerary was packed with lots of excursions and the last day was the only way to fit it in. We are sorry you felt a little bit rushed, but this was the only way to get your flight back home.

A friend and I booked with them at short notice and were impressed with the efficiency of the company's responses to queries etc and then with the booking and visa application process.

Our first transfer was a bit strange - we made contact with the taxi driver holding the Go Russia board. He whisked off with our luggage leaving us to follow, he then couldn't find his car and left it in front of the barriers while he went to get his ticket. He didn't speak English but got us to our hotel no problem.

For some reason we had an upgrade of hotel in Moscow (staying at the Katerina Hotel) which was very pleasant with a large room with comfortable seating. It was within easy walking distance of a variety of restaurants and of the underground. The 3*hotel in St Petersburg was more basic but was clean and comfortable (but nosier as no double glazing). It was very central to the main sights. Both hotels had a buffet breakfast with plenty of choice.

Both guides were very good especially Sergei in Moscow as he had a greater life experience and it was interesting to hear him talk about the changes from communist times. There were a few small changes to the itinerary but we were clearly notified of these. Some of the tours were quite intense - eg 3 hours in Winter Palace with no break - but I really enjoyed them and felt both guides did well in picking out highlights in various art galleries and museums etc.

I also valued the amount of free time in later afternoons and evenings and felt this time to explore by ourselves was a good mix with the arranged trips.

Drivers not speaking English. It is almost impossible to find a driver who would speak English in Russia. Sometimes customers do get surprised by the fact that drivers cannot speak english. The drivers might be able to say very basic frazes but their job is to meet customers, help with the luggage and bring safely to the destination. They are all professional drivers and know cities quite well. For larger groups arriving in or departing from Russia we always provide English speaking assistants.

Excursion in the winter palace. Some people find three hours to be very tiring others might say it is too short. On average we do spend about three hours in the winter palace (hermitage), however you are free to stay on after the guided excursion or leave earlier.

Standup Bill Burr brings brash style of comedy to Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, 'I'm just being silly'

Anyone who has a sibling remembers their parents at some point saying, "They wouldn't pick on you if they didn't like you."

It's a mantra that is the underbelly of most of what comes out of comedian Bill Burr's mouth.

While widely known for his unfiltered, no-holds-barred comedy where no topic is above a good roast, Burr's brash and opinionated take on, well, everything has earned him Emmy and Grammy award nominations. He recently become the first comedian to perform at (and sell out) 35,000-seat Fenway Park in his hometown of Boston.

"Here's the thing," Burr told The Tennessean. "I would never say those (offensive) things to someone I didn't love. If I don't like someone, I just go, 'Hey, how you doing?' I mean, comedians, that's all we do. I just did a podcast with Jon Lovitz and all we did was insult each other for an hour. People loved it."

"Because, you know, I'm just being silly," he said. "If I do say something to make fun of people, it's usually ridiculous, so it would make me look stupid if I believed it."

Bill's backstory

If you only know Burr from one of his seven standup comedy specials or his "Monday Morning Podcast," you've got some homework to do.

Burr is also an accomplished actor, writer, director and producer, with a resume as strong as his Boston accent.

In 2024 alone, in addition to the Bill Burr Live comedy tour currently canvassing the country, he can be seen in Jerry Seinfeld's Netflix film, "Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart story" and he executive produced and acts in the film "Drugstore June."

" Old Dads ," his directorial debut and his debut in a lead role, premiered in October 2023 as the most-watched film worldwide on Netflix during its first and second week on the platform, with 29.6 million views in the first 10 days.

He appeared in "The Mandalorian" and co-created and co-wrote "F Is for Family" alongside Laura Dern, Justin Long and Sam Rockwell.

Early on in his comedy career, Burr saw that he needed to open additional avenues for employment, so 30 years ago, he started taking acting lessons.

"I started out as a comedian and then, you know, I talked to other comics and they were getting opportunities to act and the ones that couldn't act, you only knew one time in this business," he said. "So that first time they see you and then they hand you a script, if you don't know what to do with it, that can set you back years."

Burr says he has empathy for people who live in Nashville

Burr, who cut his chops early on performing at the comedy club Zanies in Nashville, said there's nothing worse than living in a cool city and everybody around the country all of a sudden wants to move there.

"My favorite thing is when people buy into a place like Nashville and then they go out and buy local people clothes and try and blend in," he said. "And you go to visit them and it's like, 'Did you buy a ranch? Why are you dressed like that?'"

As he embarks on his tour, he says he's got the best 90 minutes (of material) he's ever written.

"I'm having more fun than I've ever had doing standup," he said. "And you know what I'm not talking about on this tour? This stupid presidential election. I'm completely ignoring it. So if you would like a night off from this whole sky is falling type of stuff that people are talking about, my show would be a good one to go see."

Childish Gambino making stop in Atlanta on upcoming tour

ATLANTA — Donald Glover, musically known as Childish Gambino is stopping in Atlanta on his upcoming tour.

Glover will make a stop at State Farm Arena on Sept. 2 alongside WILLOW as part of the upcoming World Tour that will kick off later this summer.

He recently released ATAVISTA, which he says is a finished version of “3.15.20″, the album he released four years ago.

Glover tweeted that he plans to release a new album this summer.

The 40-year-old who grew up in Stone Mountain has been a prominent name in entertainment and music for more than a decade at this point.

Most notably, Glover starred in the critically acclaimed FX comedy “Atlanta,” for which he was also an executive producer and writer. The show ended in 2022 after four seasons.

Tickets for the concert will go on sale on Friday at 10 a.m.

Straight No Chaser Releases Dates for 2024 Fall Tour

Tickets for the “Top Shelf” tour go on-sale Friday, May 10 at 10 AM local time.

RIAA-certified Gold a cappella group Straight No Chaser, known for their holiday favorites and re-imagination of iconic songs throughout the decades, has revealed the “Top Shelf” tour, their 2024 fall run. Tickets for the “Top Shelf” tour go on-sale this Friday at 10 AM local time.

Kicking off in Xcite Center at Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania on October 18, “Top Shelf” runs through the holiday season, wrapping up on December 30 in Fort Myers, FL. A list of dates is included below, and more will be announced.

“It is a privilege to get out on the road each fall,” said Straight No Chaser member Walter Chase. “Starting in October and through until New Year’s Eve, we tour across America sharing our love of the holiday season. For many families, we have become a holiday tradition some return each year for over a decade! It’s an honor, and it is one that we don’t take for granted.” 

Currently Straight No Chaser is wrapping their “Yacht Rock Tour,” and this July, they’ll pay homage to the 90s with “Summer: The 90s,” with special guests on the dates ranging from Lisa Loeb to Chris Kirkpatrick from *NSYNC.

Initially formed at Indiana University, a cappella group Straight No Chaser emerged at the forefront of the modern day a cappella movement, and has since sold more than three million albums worldwide, garnered more than a billion streams on Pandora alone, and sold more than 1.5 million concert tickets worldwide. In the fall of 2023, the group performed in more than 50 cities across the US with multiple sold-out shows, including a record-breaking run in Indianapolis.

Xi’s European tour: where is Chinese leader going and what are visit’s aims?

Emmanuel Macron and Viktor Orbán among leaders Xi is meeting, with several key issues on the table

China’s president, Xi Jinping , has begun a three-country tour of Europe – his first state visit to the continent in five years – at a time when China-EU ties are under strain from trade disputes and Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Where is Xi visiting and who will he meet?

The Chinese leader’s visit begins on Monday in Paris, where he is meeting the French president, Emmanuel Macron, for a day of talks that will include a trilateral meeting with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen , and a state banquet at the Élysée Palace in the evening.

On Tuesday, Macron will accompany Xi to the Tourmalet pass 2,000 metres up in the Hautes-Pyrénées mountains, an area where the French president spent childhood holidays visiting his grandmother, for a day of less formal discussions. The two last met in April 2023 during a three-day state visit to China by Macron .

On Wednesday, Xi will travel to Belgrade for talks with Serbia’s president, Aleksandar Vučić, and on Thursday he will go to Budapest where he will meet Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orbán . Both countries are pro-Russia and big recipients of Chinese investment.

What is the purpose of his visit?

Officially, Xi’s visit to Paris is to mark 60 years since diplomatic relations were established between France and China: France was the first western country to formally recognise the People’s Republic of China, on 27 January 1964.

His visit to Belgrade coincides with the 25th anniversary of the bombing of the Chinese embassy in Serbia , when three people died after a US strike accidentally hit the compound during Nato’s air campaign against Serb forces occupying Kosovo.

Analysts have said that in his meetings with Macron and von der Leyen, away from the ceremonies, Xi will mainly be aiming to lobby against the EU’s anti-subsidy investigations, particularly on electric vehicles, and on stabilising diplomatic relationships.

In Serbia , where China is the biggest single source of inward investment, he will hope to play up Beijing’s anti-US, anti-Nato agenda – one reason why China has maintained its support for Russia since its invasion of Ukraine.

In Hungary, Xi will underline the close economic and diplomatic ties between the two countries, including in security cooperation, and discuss progress on China’s belt and road initiative , which includes a high-speed Budapest-Belgrade rail link.

Hungary, a vocal supporter of China that has blocked some EU motions criticising Beijing on human rights, has Huawei’s largest base outside China and will soon host the carmaker BYD’s first European factory.

What big issues will be on the table?

Overshadowing the visit are EU concerns over China’s support for Russia two years into war against Ukraine, and Beijing’s concerns over the bloc’s economic security agenda, including the threat of heavy tariffs on Chinese imports.

Macron and von der Leyen will call on China to stop exports to Russia of “dual-use” and other technologies aiding Moscow war effort. Beijing claims to be neutral in the conflict but China-Russia trade has helped offset western sanctions on Moscow.

Beijing, for its part, aims to head off the threat of European tariffs on Chinese EVs after an EU investigation into state support for the industry in China. Studies put China’s subsidies at between three and nine times those of other major economies.

Human rights groups have said the issues of Tibet and Xinjiang , where the UN has said China may have committed crimes against humanity by placing up to a million ethnic Uyghur Muslims in re-education camps, must be raised.

What is the outcome likely to be?

Most analysts doubt that the EU and its messages on the looming trade dispute and Chinese support for Russia over Ukraine will make much headway with Xi, whose visit seems designed to exploit the bloc’s internal differences.

China’s economy is facing some difficulties and the US is increasingly reticent about opening up to Chinese companies, meaning the EU could have some leverage, but its 27 members are not fully aligned on China policy, undermining their influence.

Macron wants a more aggressive EU stance on subsidies and has warned that the bloc risks falling behind without one, but other leaders, such as Germany’s chancellor, Olaf Scholz, stress the importance of the Chinese market for their own exporters.

Overall, said Janka Oertel, of the European Council on Foreign Relations, Xi’s Paris visit is “unlikely to have a significant impact on Chinese behaviour”. And Shen Dingli, a Shanghai-based analyst, said the Belgrade and Budapest stops were part of China’s efforts to deepen divisions within the west.

Prince Harry and Meghan's 72-hour visit to Nigeria has attracted a level of publicity Buckingham Palace has been sorely lacking of late.

The photographs of the former royals taking part in a casual volleyball game, accepting flowers from a little girl and visiting local schools to promote mental health awareness made headlines around the world over the weekend .

Prince Harry drew praise over a heartfelt speech about the importance of "acknowledging bad days ", and photographers snapped pictures as he accepted an invitation to sit and throw the ball around with army veterans wounded in battle against the country's Islamist insurgency.

His wife's instinctive sartorial choices were also avidly followed by royal and non-royal watcher s alike, as was her special connection to the country she called "home".

The lightning-quick tour of Nigeria was intended to champion mental health for young people and promote the Invictus Games, an international sporting event founded by Prince Harry back when he was still firmly within the royal fold.

Nigeria became the first African country to take part in the games last year, with General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, the country's highest-ranking military official, extending an invitation to the prince this year to help raise its profile.

But it wasn't a royal tour, it couldn't be. Not after the duke and duchess' decision in 2020 to step back as senior working members of the royal family.

After failing to reach a compromise over a hybrid working model, the couple traded in their lofty titles for the chance to earn a private income, swapping the rigid spotlight of the United Kingdom for carefree California.

Four years later, the British high commissioner in Nigeria was at pains to stress this point, releasing a statement that the couple's visit was in a private capacity and "not an official one".

"They are not representing the work of His Majesty's government on this visit," Richard Montgomery told the News Agency of Nigeria .

It did not prevent the three-day spectacle from making the news locally and within the country Harry and Meghan once considered home.

Some of this attention could not be helped given the stark absences of other senior royals in the public eye in recent months due to illness.

The couple, whether they intended to or not, have demonstrated in their Nigeria stopover, the gap they could have filled had they stayed on as working royals.

And given how small that circle is at the moment, perhaps they have also showed how helpful that would have been.

According to author and former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown, the visit has drawn recollections of the position the duke and duchess once occupied.

"After all the trashing of Harry ... actually when I saw him and Meghan in Nigeria, I had a nostalgia," she told the BBC.

"I felt this is what could have been, these two — who are enormously appealing to the public, and who are very good at it — were out there in Nigeria looking very attractive and being appealing people. And what a pity it is they've gone"

In her view, the couple's sleek visit was a reminder of the grim realities looming over the slimmed-down royal family and the "Harry-shaped hole in the monarchy".

The importance of a royal tour

Royal tours by their very nature are filled with pomp and ceremony and are considered to be an important part of making the public believe in the power of the monarch.

One of Queen Elizabeth II's favourite mantras was that royals "have to be seen to be believed".

Since medieval times, a monarch's highly orchestrated trips around the country or (in more recent times) the globe has provided their subjects with proof of life and reinforced the magic of the palace.

The late queen was a firm believer in the importance of these public voyages, embarking on dozens throughout her reign after first coming to the role of monarch while on a royal tour.

As the story goes, she was more than 7,000 kilometres from home on a five-month visit of Africa and Australia when she went up a tree a princess and came down a queen.

But in the 21st century, the pageantry of these events is offset by greater scrutiny from a wary public and a sceptical media throng.

Stephen Bates, the former royal affairs writer for the Guardian, writes that press teams that accompany royals on these visits do so now if three conditions are met.

"There may be some newsworthiness to them …; second, to view the royals at close range in a way that’s not normally possible — to see what they are like in person, maybe even speak to them; and third, to test the water for their popularity," he wrote for the Guardian.

Last year, King Charles reportedly began planning the largest-ever series of official tours across the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and other countries.

Those rumours were soon confirmed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in February, when he revealed discussions were underway for the king's visit Down Under .

There had been speculation his trip might fall alongside the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa in October.

However, the king's cancer diagnosis and treatment have thrown these plans into question.

Both King Charles III and Princess Catherine have limited their public engagements since announcing they would be recovering from procedures in January.

The king returned to in-person royal duties in late April , after more than seven weeks away from the spotlight, but his public appearances are still being worked out.

"The pacing of the king's program will be carefully calibrated as his recovery continues, in close consultation with his medical team," a Buckingham Palace statement released last month said.

The government has confirmed there are still plans underway for an Australian visit, though it is far from certain.

This is not surprising, given the publicity these tours can generate and the pressure they place on the people at the centre of them.

Careful and thoughtful preparations play a key part in the success of a tour.

But, as with all best-laid plans, sometimes they can go wrong.

The Caribbean tour that drew unwanted attention

Kate and William's tour across the Caribbean in 2022 was supposed to be one such highly-planned event.

It was hoped the young couple would win over a new generation of subjects growing increasingly dubious about their heads of state.

But reports at the time indicated the then duke and duchess of Cambridge's efforts backfired after a series of faux pas.

The couple's visit to Jamaica was overshadowed when reports emerged not long after their arrival that the country's government had begun the process of transitioning the nation to a republic.

Photographs of the couple standing in an open-top Land Rover and reaching out to grab the hands of children through a wire fence also gave rise to awkward recollections of the monarchy's colonial past.

Royal commentators described the messaging of that tour as "poor at best" and prompting an overhaul of the Prince and Princess of Wales' PR and communications team.

While Meghan and Harry's three-day Nigeria visit is by no means comparable to the spectacle of a royal tour, it has offered some lessons on the importance of leaning on a sophisticated PR machine.

The duchess  reportedly has one of the most powerful managers in Hollywood working for her after a reshuffle of her management team last year following the couple's high-profile exit from a Spotify deal.

But part of the success of the duke and duchess' Nigeria stopover was also in some of the more genuine moments on display for waiting cameras.

A day after landing, Meghan noted the contrast between her neutral wardrobe and those around her, making a swift decision to update her sartorial choices.

"It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived," Meghan reportedly told guests at an event.

"And I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour so I can fit in with all of you in your incredible fashion!"

Her authentic connection with the country was also a running theme of the visit, with Meghan telling locals she had recently discovered her ancestry traced back to Nigeria.

While on stage at an event in the country's capital, Abuja, the Duchess of Sussex explained that her first reaction after finding out was to tell her mother.

"Being African American, part of it is really not knowing so much about your lineage and background … ," she said.

After the duchess's revelation, Mo Abudu, the anchor and chief executive of EbonyLife media group, asked the audience to suggest a Nigerian name for Meghan.

Someone shouted "Ifeoma", which means "a treasured thing", while another shouted "Omowale", which means "the child has come home".

Could Harry and Meghan return to royal life?

In the years since the couple left, questions have swirled around what may have happened if the dice of fate had landed a different way.

What if Harry and Meghan were still working royals alongside William and Kate?

What might have happened if the young couple were on hand to pitch in and step up their public presence when other royals were absent?

The questions have taken on more relevance after the King and Princess Catherine's dual cancer diagnoses and subsequent withdrawal from the spotlight.

A glimpse of what might have been played out over the weekend as Harry and Meghan underwent their own "private" tour of Nigeria.

While the photographs made those watching nostalgic, it's unlikely the visit will prompt a request to take on official duties back in London or heal the deep rift between the royal family and the young couple.

What it has done it further highlight the small group of working royals operating now, made smaller after the deaths of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth, and following Prince Andrew's complete removal from royal life.

But if the king's decision not to see his son when he was in London last week — reportedly due to a full programme —  is anything to go by, any suggestions of a return to royal life are being firmly rebuffed.

Even with a smaller circle of people to rely on, it appears as if the royal family has chosen to keep Harry out in the cold.

Ye, formerly known as Kanye West , had a rebirth this year with his epic return riding on the wings of ‘Vultures’. Following the wild success of the first part of his 2024 album, all eyes are on what the rapper has in store for fans next. But before he unleashes the next wave of hits, Ye will be finishing another lap around the sun. As he inches closer to turning 47, it seems he had been planning to throw the bash of the century for his big day, with an epic concert.

It looks like, however, the rapper already got the blow of some disappointment before the candles even got a chance to sparkle. 

Ye might not get his 47th birthday plans off the ground

Ye reportedly had his sights set on throwing an epic $5 Million bash in Moscow to ring in his 47th birthday next month. As reported by  Russian insiders at Mash Telegram, he was supposed to be performing at the Atlanta Summer Festival, transforming Luzhniki Stadium into a party paradise on June 8 , perfectly timed with his birthday. However, representatives from the stadium soon denied any such concert. Eduard Ratnikov shared with Russia's TASS, he had communicated directly with Ye a few months ago. 

" But it ended with nothing because it is an absolutely empty story ”, said the TCI concert agency founder. Producer Yana Rudkovskaya, who says she was directly involved in talks with Ye, also stated in a Telegram post that the event organizers and the musician could not reach an agreement on the fee. However, she hinted that a Ye performance in Moscow might not be completely out of the question and could happen later, maybe as early as fall 2024.  In the meantime, Ye has been stretching his fans' patience to its limits with the anticipation of his next drop. 

Fans were left disappointed yet again as the ‘Donda’ rapper missed the scheduled release date for his album. However, they found the best way to cope with the letdown. 

Ye could not keep to his schedule once more

It has become a bit of a pattern for Ye to miss his own deadlines. He enjoys keeping fans on their toes before finally gracing them with his musical creations. The saga continues with the second volume of 'Vultures'. Originally planned for release on March 8, Ye's album 'Vultures 2' did not hit the shelves as expected. Despite Ye's promise of a May 3 release later, fans were left hanging once again when the album failed to make its debut.

The day after the album was supposed to drop, fans flooded social media, sharing their disappointment through hilarious meme trends . Despite the initial frustration, they managed to find a way to laugh through it. And if Ye's rumored Russian concert on his birthday does happen, it could be the sweet relief fans need from the 'Vultures 2' waiting game.
