They might have fallen short of their ultimate goal of playing to the final weekend of the college basketball season in early April, but the 2022-23 Kansas men’s basketball team still has a few dates set for next month.

The 2023 Kansas barnstorming tour soon will be landing in Dodge City on April 14 (6:30 p.m. at Dodge City Community College’s Dome), in Wichita on April 15 (3 p.m. at Friends University’s Garvey Center) and in Pittsburg on April 16 (2 p.m. at John Lance Arena).

Tickets for the event, which will be hosted through a partnership between G1 Sports and KU’s Mass Street Collective, can be purchased through the collective’s web site — www.massstrategies.com — and, according to a news release announcing the dates, the collective has secured contractual agreements with 14 members of the 2022-23 KU team, including all five starters from this season’s team.

Those players expected to attend include: Dajuan Harris Jr., Gradey Dick, Kevin McCullar Jr., Jalen Wilson, KJ Adams, Ernest Udeh Jr., Zuby Ejiofor, Joe Yesufu, MJ Rice, Kyle Cuffe Jr. and walk-ons Wilder Evers, Charlie McCarthy, Dillon Wilhite and Michael Jankovich.

Former KU great, Jeff Boschee, now the head coach at Pitt State University, is also expected to be involved on the final day of the tour.

As in the past, fans who purchase either VIP ($150) or reserved ($100) tickets will be able to meet some of their favorite players and participate in an autograph session. There are also tickets available for $20 (general admission) and $35 (general admission with a digitally autographed poster) for each of the three sites.

New to the 2023 barnstorming experience will be additional programming to provide more fan interaction with the players.

That will include an on-court event, a Q&A session with the players, as well as a skills challenge, which will feature the Jayhawks teaming up with randomly selected members of the crowd to participate in a team relay, shooting drills and half-court shot attempts for prizes.

Fans can also purchase exclusive Barnstorming Tour T-Shirts and merchandise through an online auction, as well as previously autographed memorabilia at all three stops.

Jayhawks kick off Barnstorming tour in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Once KU Basketball fans heard that the NCAA national champions were coming to Wichita to kick off their Barnstorming tour, tickets started selling out.

Lois and Kyson Kimble are one of many families who spent the day waiting in line to see some of their favorite Kansas basketball players.

Lois and Kyson say, “we were very excited. I love the KU. Ever since they won the championship, I was like, this is the most fun place ever. To meet the players and have our items signed. We have our basement decorated in KU.”

Event organizers say so many people showed up Saturday that they had to extend the autograph portion by 45 minutes to accommodate the massive line of general admission fans.

Ochai Agbaji, KU’s star player, said, “I saw the line on one side, and there were screaming fans when we got off the bus. KU runs deep out here, too, so it’s great to see the turnout.” The VIP tickets for this event sold out, allowing them to meet and greet players before the hundreds of general admission ticket holders. Regardless, fans were star-struck.

KU players, personnel, and Wichita east staff hope to make this a yearly event.

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The University of Kansas men’s national champion basketball team started their barnstorming tour in Wichita on Saturday at East High School.

It was their first of many stops across the state to celebrate their achievements.

KSN talked to some Jayhawk fans in line to meet the players and get autographs.

“I’m a super fan, my dad taught me well. I was in a diaper watching basketball with him since day one. I’ve been here for two hours, I’ve been here since noon,” said Dixie Perez McBee, a faithful KU fan since birth.

Along with getting an autograph, KU fans could participate in a silent auction, some Q&A sessions and an interactive camp with the players.

Sixteen players came to Wichita, including Christian Braun and Ochai Agbaj.

Braun says he has been “soaking it in and making sure we understand how truly cool this opportunity is and how few and far between they are.”

“This team is like you know I’d say the pinnacle of Kansas basketball,” said Ogbaji. “We are just hard-working guys that had to earn it, and it was never given to us, but we just had to earn it, and we earned everything this season.”

As for what lies ahead for sixth-year Christian Braun, he has big plans:

As of Sunday, Ochai Agbaji has also declared for the NBA Draft in a tweet .

Kansas men's basketball players set to profit off Jayhawks' 'Barnstorming Tour'

After winning the national championship last week, Kansas is doing what past champions could not do: cashing in.

The Kansas "Barnstorming Tour" will begin on April 23 at a high school in Wichita, Kansas. For tickets ranging from $30 to $125, fans can get autographs, participate in a Q&A session, join a skills training session and attend a VIP dinner.

All tickets include an autograph from players, and pictures are available with an extra fee.

New NIL rules have allowed Kansas to be the first college basketball team to make money off its national title run. Per Front Office Sports, players will get 70% of the revenue on the tour and 100% of the revenue from items that are auctioned.

Christian Braun , David McCormack , Ochai Agbaji (Most Outstanding Player), DaJuan Harris Jr. and Jalen Wilson are all set to participate, according to the tour's website.

Kansas players are already cashing in on their championship win, with an assist from the school, share this article.

University of Kansas head coach Bill Self had quite a profitable postseason. En route to winning the 2022 national championship, the Jayhawks’ leader picked up bonuses totaling $575,000 —including $200,000 for winning the title game alone.

Now, thanks to NIL, the school is helping making sure the players on the team have a chance to cash in, as well, and it’s hard not to feel great about this.

The entire KU roster—all 18 players—will embark on a state-wide barnstorming tour to celebrate their championship with fans after the school partnered with 6th Man Strategies to conduct the events.

CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander (yes, the guy with the Guster sticker ), explained how the tour will work and how it’ll benefit the players involved:

“Memorabilia will be signed. Photos with Kansas players and giddy KU fans — young and old — will be taken. There will be a special VIP dinner, and the players will also participate in a skills camp for the kids who attend. Fans will also get to see a little live-action basketball, as KU’s players will play a scrimmage for fun….Tickets will go for as little as $30 to as much as $125. “Arguably the best part: Kansas’ players are set to collectively receive 70% of the ticket revenue from however many of these events wind up happening in the coming weeks. What’s more, any championship Kansas gear that is sold, 100% of those profits will go right back to the players.”

It’s hard to imagine a better example of the benefits provided by NIL.

Fans get a final opportunity to see this KU roster all together, the players get a final opportunity to share in the glory of winning a title and the school can brag to recruits about all the spoils that come with joining the Jayhawks.

It’s a model that’s easy to duplicate and one that’s guaranteed to see copycats across college athletics. Don’t believe me? Go reread that bit about using this to sell recruits. Kansas just happened to reach the mountaintop at the right time—and with the right partners.

But the big winners here won’t just be stars like Ochai Agbaji, David McCormack, Christian Braun and Remy Martin—each of whom have pro careers waiting next season. It’ll be the reserves who worked just as hard as those aforementioned names without getting similar minutes. Guys like Cam Martin, Bobby Pettiford, KJ Adams, Zach Clemence, Joseph Yesufu and Kyle Cuffe Jr.

They deserve every bit as much of the recognition and profits as anyone. It’s nice to see the program is willing to help make that happen. It’ll be even sweeter when this becomes the norm across college athletics.

Barnstorming Tour allows KU basketball players to hold on to their season a little longer

PITTSBURG — Inside John Lance Arena, smiles and laughs were rampant among the many Kansas men’s basketball players there.

This was Sunday in Pittsburg, during the last stop of the 2023 Barnstorming Tour that followed the team’s 2022-23 season. The past two days of the three-day, three-city tour around the state of Kansas had seen these Jayhawk athletes greet crowds in both Dodge City and Wichita. And if there was any fatigue from the travel, the excitement of those eager to meet the players they admired was there to provide a boost.

So much will look different when the coach Bill Self-led Kansas Jayhawks take the floor next season for their season opener. So much of the months ahead will be about Kansas’ new-look roster trying to build the necessary chemistry to defend the program’s latest Big 12 Conference regular-season title. But the 2023 Barnstorming Tour provided the 2022-23 Jayhawks in attendance a chance to hold on to their season together a little bit longer.

RELATED: This could be a significant week for KU basketball and some transfer portal targets

“I think it just gives us a chance to have our last, kind of, hangouts, and last for a while because all guys are going different ways,” said Jalen Wilson, who’s declared for the NBA draft. “Obviously, it’s not the same, because we don’t have the whole team here. Guys transferred. But it’s still fun times, fun times just to bond with the guys.”

Wilson praised the fans at each stop they made, and noted it feels great to be able to have this moment with them. Last year, just like this year, he approached the tour as if it would be the last chapter of his time at Kansas because he had his mind set on turning pro. But unlike last year, this year he really is going to turn pro and start that new chapter of his life.

Kevin McCullar Jr., another veteran who’s going to go through the NBA’s pre-draft process, had not been a part of this tour before because he started his college career at Texas Tech. To be a part of it, after what could be his first and only season with the Jayhawks this past season, exceeded his expectations. He thought it was cool that they were able to travel to different communities that might not get to come to Lawrence as often as others.

RELATED: KU basketball’s Gradey Dick, Jalen Wilson may train together ahead of 2023 NBA draft

Wilson will remember the bus rides and more from this year’s tour. McCullar will remember being able to spend time on the court with the kids who came to see them, because he can remember how fun it was to be in their position when he was growing up. The simplicity of all the interactions the tour provided them is in part what makes the tour itself special.

“Just taking it all in, I was just enjoying every day of it with the guys,” McCullar said. “A lot of us are about to go do different things, and be working out and stuff, so it was cool to be able to spend some more time with them.”

Friday’s Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball Barnstorming Tour event in Topeka canceled

Kansas’ men’s basketball players’ Barnstorming Tour event Friday at Topeka’s Washburn University has been canceled because of the possibility of severe weather, tour organizer 6th Man Strategies has announced.

Matt Baty of 6th Man Strategies says an email regarding refunds or transfer requests to another Barnstorming Tour event has been sent to individuals who had purchased tickets to Friday’s Barnstorming stop.

The tour will resume Saturday at Hays High School, then Sunday at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park. The tour heads to Rockhurst High in Kansas City on May 6, Dodge City Civic Center on May 7 and Pembroke Hill in Kansas City on May 8.

“Due to the nature of the event, ticket purchasers will be outside for extensive amounts of time waiting for signatures. With weather predicted to hit during the event we thought we would be putting ticket purchasers in a difficult and unsafe position,” Baty said in an email. “We heard from countless purchasers that they were concerned about being outside while weather came in. Also, we have many purchasers traveling in from other cities and we did not want them to risk traveling in poor weather along with the players traveling in and back as well.

“We regretfully made the decision to cancel. At this time we do not have plans to reschedule due to the players schedules. If that changes I will let you know. We do have plans to get the new players along with returning players back out in June and July and will plan on Topeka being a stop for us,” Baty added.

The tour began with a stop last Saturday at Wichita East High School. Information on the Barnstorming Tour is available at barnstormingtour.com.

Kansas Jayhawks’ upcoming men’s basketball Barnstorming Tour events have been canceled

Kansas men’s basketball players’ Barnstorming Tour events Friday at Rockhurst High School, Saturday at Dodge City Civic Center and Sunday at Pembroke Hill School have been canceled, 6th Man Strategies has announced .

Scheduling conflicts with some KU players have resulted in the cancellations, Matt Baty of 6th Man Strategies said Wednesday night.

“Regretfully, we are unable to move forward with hosting the upcoming KU basketball Barnstorming Tour stops on Friday (Rockhurst), Saturday (Dodge City) and Sunday (Pembroke Hill). Several of our key student athletes have scheduling conflicts with pre-(NBA) Draft meetings, workouts and travel limitations. We want to ensure that fans attending these events are able to see all their favorite Jayhawks in person and that isn’t going to be possible this upcoming weekend,” Baty wrote in an email to advance ticket buyers.

Baty said those who purchased tickets would receive refunds “over the next few days.”

Barnstorming Tour events since the end of the 2021-22 season have been held at Wichita East High School, Hays High School and Blue Valley Northwest High School.

Baty said details will soon be released on a “virtual forum” opportunity for fans with KU players.

“Our hope is to connect and celebrate the players from the 2021-2022 KU basketball team with their fans throughout the state,” Baty wrote in an email to Barnstorming ticket holders. “For those that weren’t able to attend a Barnstorming Tour event, we will soon announce another option to engage with this year’s national championship team via an exclusive, virtual forum that will allow for live conversations, behind the scenes content, and a Q&A session. This exclusive opportunity will also include players that have not been present at previous Barnstorming Tour stops.”

There also have been preliminary plans to hold some Barnstorming Events that would include KU’s incoming players in June and July, 6th Man Strategies indicated recently.

Updates will be available at barnstormingtour.com and 6thmanstrategies.com.

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The University of Kansas basketball team’s plans to visit the Capital City as part of their Barnstorming Tour have been cancelled.

A 27 News reporter spoke with a representative of 6th Man Strategies, a consulting agency for KU student athletes, on Thursday who reported that the planned stop in Topeka has been cancelled due to the possibility of severe weather through the evening on Friday. The representative said that their biggest concern was having people standing in lines outside during a severe weather event.

The representative went on to say that those who purchased tickets for the Topeka event will have the chance to transfer the ticket to the Sunday event at Blue Valley Northwest in Overland Park.

Kansas players set to cash in thanks to NIL, potentially setting a model for future NCAA title-winning teams

Jayhawk players will reap financial rewards for their 'barnstorming tour' after winning the ncaa championship.

kunilusatsi.jpg

Imagine a world in which every national champion in men's and women's basketball — football, too — celebrated their spoils in ways that earned players money and allowed them to profit on their accomplishments.

You don't have to imagine it after all: that world is here.

Kansas men's basketball is about to set the model for what every national title winner in the three biggest collegiate team sports can and probably will do after every national championship game moving forward. As it was  recently reported , Kansas players will soon embark on a statewide "barnstorming" tour of publicity and celebration in light of the Jayhawks' 2022 NCAA Tournament title . Kansas has done things like this in the past, with its outgoing seniors, but this time it's different. This time all players can, and will, profit off their achievements, their names, their images, their likenesses and their legendary local statuses as 2022 national champions.

As they should.

Every player, all 18 on Kansas' roster, is scheduled to be there. Notably, that includes First Team All-American /Final Four Most Outstanding Player Ochai Agbaji , in addition to Final Four hero David McCormack , future NBA Draft pick Christian Braun and potential returning starters DaJuan Harris Jr . and Jalen Wilson .

There's even a website for this celebratory tour, complete with a countdown clock and this message: "Join us for a night of fun filled with silent, live auctions and autograph signings with all 18 players. This is something to celebrate as it has only been seniors at previous barnstorming tours. Don't miss the silent and live auctions that will take place during the event and halftime. You won't want to miss the opportunity to win some of KU special player's memorabilia. Saturday, April 23rd come cheer on your national champions. Rock Chalk!"

They'll start by visiting a high school in Wichita, Kansas. Memorabilia will be signed. Photos with Kansas players and giddy KU fans — young and old — will be taken. There will be a special VIP dinner, and the players will also participate in a skills camp for the kids who attend. Fans will also get to see a little live-action basketball, as KU's players will play a scrimmage for fun.

Sounds like a dream experience after months and months of hard work that led to a cherished championship run. Kansas players will bask in their title glory, while Jayhawks fans will get a chance to experience something that they'll remember for the rest of their lives. Tickets will go for as little as $30 to as much as $125.

Arguably the best part: Kansas' players are set to collectively receive 70% of the ticket revenue from however many of these events wind up happening in the coming weeks. What's more, any championship Kansas gear that is sold, 100% of those profits will go right back to the players. This is the platonic ideal of NIL rights in action. It's merit based. Kansas won the national title, now its players get to reap the benefits of their labor by getting paid — and it's all allowable under name, image and likeness rules.

Everybody wins.

Kansas was prepared for this as well. The school partnered with a company called 6th Man Strategies — which was started by former KU baseball player Matt Baty — in the fall of 2021. Kansas basketball is the biggest deal in that state. There were going to be humongous NIL opportunities, and Baty knew it. By virtue of winning the national title, Kansas' players now have an opportunity to go out into the community, celebrate their title and get a little bonus cash on the side.

The world of NIL has exploded with an array of individual moneymaking opportunities. What Kansas is doing here is a twist on that: it's for the whole team. A communal experience. It's a way for everyone, from Agbaji and McCormack to the walk-ons, to capitalize on their accomplishments. A wonderful thing, and the latest example that NIL rights for players enhances the college-athlete experience.

This is only the beginning. The possibilities are expansive. Expect to see Kansas' title tour template become the norm for national champions in the years to come; it would be a wasted opportunity otherwise. To root for a college sports team is to ingratiate yourself in the highs and lows of fandom. When a team wins a title, it uplifts a community in many ways. Schools have always profited off of championship gear, commemorative memorabilia and the like. They still will.

Now the players get their share.

What if Alabama wins another title in football in 2023? Sure, the roster is much larger, but don't you think an army of Alabama fans around that state wouldn't gleefully show up and pay to shake hands, take pictures and bid on auction items from the CFP title game? Of course. The same goes for any other fan base, and this is probably only the start. Creative minds will eventually come up with bigger and broader ways to rally community support and put a little money in players' pockets after making school history.

Take your pick: UConn, Stanford or South Carolina women's basketball;  Clemson , Georgia or Ohio State football;  Duke or Kentucky or Gonzaga or North Carolina or any team that winds up winning the 2023 men's national title in basketball. Doesn't matter what state, what school or how it's done: everyone wants to celebrate a championship, doing so even beyond holding a parade. All title-winning schools could all take advantage of this in the future the way Kansas is now. They'd be foolish not to.

Severe weather threat nixes Topeka’s KU Barnstorming Tour stop

Kansas players after their win against North Carolina in a college basketball game in the...

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Friday’s KU Barnstorming Tour stop in Topeka has been canceled due to the threat of severe weather, per 6th Man Strategies, LLC.

“We regretfully cancelled the event tomorrow due to weather predictions,” Matt Baty, with 6th Man Strategies, said. “At our events we have lines that go out the door and with an abundance of caution we didn’t want the fans to be at risk outside. We also have a significant amount of ticket purchasers that are traveling in. Not to mention we are concerned about the players traveling in and back during the forecasted severe weather. We received a lot of feedback from fans saying they were not going to make it due to the weather.”

Baty says fans can refund their tickets, or transfer them to any of the remaining stops. All refund or transfer requests should be sent to [email protected] .

“We understand this isn’t ideal,” Baty said. “We will look to see if we can add any additional events and also eyeing June and July to continue the tour.”

The NIL group announced six additional stops Monday, with the Capital City first on the list.

WIBW Chief Meteorologist Jeremy Goodwin says Friday’s weather calls for a threat for hail up to 2-inches in diameter, a tornado threat and strong winds. Keep up to date with the latest forecast here .
