Ireland is a biker friendly location. Over the years we’ve toured every part of Ireland with visiting bikers. Let WILDIRISH Motorcycle Tours share our experience with you, through our guided and self-guided tours, to help you make the most of your touring holiday in Ireland.

The scenery in Ireland is second to none and some of the most beautiful places in the world are here. And the weather is good for motorcycles all year round. It may rain a little but we won’t let that stop you having a great holiday.

Ireland is a great place for touring on a motorcycle and the Irish roads were made for motorcyclists. Once you leave Dublin (our capital city) traffic is sparse. There is a great network of new motorways (which most motorcyclists avoid), which leave the N and R roads (A & B road equivalents) fast and free for motorbikes.

WILDIRISH Motorcycle Tours of Ireland – Sky Road, Co. Galway

The pace of our guided Motorcycle Tours of Ireland are casual. Routes are expertly planned so excessive speed is not necessary to keep you on track.  We include plenty of stops for fuel, coffee, photos etc. so our tours are suitable for novice as well as more experienced riders. For more information or to book your guided or self-guided tour please contact us.

At the end of your WILDIRISH Motorcycle Tour of Ireland, we think you will love Ireland, the land of the “cead mile failte” (Irish for “a hundred Irish welcomes”) and the famous Irish “craic”!

motorcycle tours ireland self guided

We are pleased to offer this lovely tour of Ireland which we have run as an escorted group tour in the past.  This is our standard itinerary but, as with all our self guided tours, it can be "tailor made" to meet your requirements.  Just contact us with your request.

We can offer different ferry routes and hotels in other locations including: Wexford, Waterford, Cobh, Dingle, Doolin, Galway, Sligo and Belfast (where we are working with a motorcycle riding hotel partner) to name a few.  We have contracts with a hotel group that can also offer other locations.

PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME OF THE HOTELS USED ON THIS TOUR OPERATE A FLUID PRICING POLICY

THE PRICES QUOTED ON THIS WEBSITE PAGE ARE A PRICE INDICATION ONLY - PLEASE RING US FOR A QUOTATION FOR YOUR PLANNED TRAVEL DATES

This tour starts at the Holyhead ferry port, and you might want to take a while getting there on a scenic route through north Wales.  Your  sailing gets you into Dublin in plenty of time to check in at our hotel, change and shower before enjoying a night out in Dublin.

In the morning you will start your clockwise lap of Ireland riding south through Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford and Cork to your lovely hotel in Kerry. The next day, leaving your luggage  at the hotel we have a planned ride-out round the Ring of Kerry , and for those full of enthusiasm you can ride the Ring of Beara too!

From this most south-westerly point of your lap of Ireland you head north through Limerick, Clare and Galway, across lush green countryside and parts of the Wild Atlantic Way . Taking a route via the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher , your next base is in County Mayo. The west coast of Ireland is dramatic and spectacular, and your ride-out from here takes you onto the Wild Atlantic Way again, and the Connemara Loop is available too if you have not had enough.

Heading north again through Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, you enter Northern Ireland at (London)Derry, and continue east to your next base in Portrush (home of the North West 200 road races). The free day here gives you an opportunity to visit the Giants Causeway, Bushmills Distillery , walk the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (if you have a head for heights) and of course pay a visit to Joey’s Bar , via the Dark Hedges  that some of you may know from the Game of Thrones TV series. Or if the weather is exceptionally good take a ride up to Malin Head, Irelands most northerly point.

Yur last leg takes you south back to Dublin, hugging the coast most of the way, to your last overnight stay back in Dublin once again. With only an afternoon ferry to worry about the following day you will have the opportunity to explore the bustling Temple Bar area for a bite to eat, and perhaps sink a pint or two of the black stuff.

A total of about 1350 miles in Ireland (plus whatever it takes you to get to and from Holyhead) with the longest day being about 250 miles. Ireland has beautiful landscape, and the dramatic cliffs of the west coast are just awesome. The loughs and mountains come a close second scenery wise, and of course there is the famous hospitality and culture. Come along and enjoy the craic, but pack your waterproofs, just in case...

Celtic Rider Ireland Logo

Discover the western gems, Donegal, Westport and Bunratty on our seven day Celtic Rider self-guided motorcycle tour.

Kicking off your Celtic Rider experience is our one hour award-winning Safety Orientation Course followed by a ride out with a Celtic Rider team member. Donegal was voted ‘Coolest Place on earth 2017’ by the National Geotraveller. Mayo’s town of Westport is where you will be residing for two evenings, has been voted ‘Tidy Town of Ireland’ numerous times. Bunratty is neighboring the infamous Cliffs of Moher!

This midi sized tour offers a burst of culture, whilst taking in stunning land and seascapes along the way. Enjoy six evenings of Irish hospitality whilst staying in accommodations hand chosen by Celtic Rider, each aimed at providing for our riders.

Day 1 – Celtic Rider Offices to Donegal. (Two nights in Donegal) (140 Miles/ 223Km)

  • Generally, we ask riders to make their way to Celtic Rider between 9.30 am and 10am. Then after the bit of paperwork, enjoy our short safety orientation video in the classroom, and just as important, on the road of today’s actual route, for about an hour or so.

Head North west along the N3, I recommend stopping at Lakeside Manor Hotel in Virginia for lunch, a nice hotel beside beautiful Lough Ramor, 50 miles from Celtic Rider, plenty of parking space at this quaint hotel

This ride briefly takes you through Northern Ireland, along upper and lower Lough Erne. There are no customs checks in Ireland anymore, the only difference you will notice are the speed signs are in miles per hour, not km.

Entering Donegal town, check out Donegal Castle and Magee’s tweed shop, conveniently located 100 yards from each other in the town centre.

Check into Donegal accommodation for 2 nights.

Good restaurants are ‘The Harbour’ and ‘The Olde Castle’

Call into Reels Pub, traditional music every evening and a real turf fire!

Day 2 – Your second day in Donegal. Donegal to Donegal (141 Miles/ 226 Km)

  • Follow the Garmin route up through Barnesmore gap, a smugglers haven in time gone by.

Continue the ride to the stunning Glenveagh National Park and Castle in North West Donegal, with the majestic Derryveagh mountains all around you.

The Castle is set in a beautiful garden, nice to relax in for a while, have some refreshments and enjoy the short guided tour of the Castle itself.

Departing Glenveagh note Mount Errigal, Ireland’s most iconic mountain, with its quartzite top.

Continue riding along the route through wild and remote Donegal to Ardara, than ride the Glengash Mountain Pass.

Onwards to Carrick, than Teelin village, follow the route to ‘The Rusty’ a small old pub and just 100 metres after the pub you turn right to the start of the ascent to the highest sea cliffs in Europe, Slieve League Cliffs, at 2000 ft high.

The ride up is as memorable as the amazing view from the upper parking area, accessed by opening a farm gate on the way up. Often there are trawlers fishing, they look like tiny dots on the Atlantic Ocean from the summit of the cliffs.

Return to Donegal accommodation via Killybegs, Ireland’s deep sea fishing port, very photographic coastal town.

Day 3 – Donegal to Westport (2 nights in Westport) (156 Miles/ 250 Km)

  • Departing Donegal head south , Drumcliff is where Ireland’s beloved poet W.B.Yeats is laid to rest. Benbulbin table top mountain dominates the skyline

Must visit is the Ceide Fields Visitor Centre, the oldest and largest stone walled village in the world, 5200BC

Ride south through Ireland’s most remote area, from Bangor ride Ballycroy National Park, please stop at the Ballycroy visitor centre, Europe’s largest expanse of blanket bog, local people working there will happily tell you the history of this region

View the Nephin Beg Mountains and look out for local people cutting turf

The ride to Mallarany is spectacular as it winds along the sea

There is a nice Abbey, Burrishoole Abbey, between Mallaranny and Newport, optional but worth visiting

Check into Westport accommodation for 2 nights.

motorcycle tours ireland self guided

Day 4 – Your second night in Westport. Westport to Westport (130 Miles/ 206 Km)

  • Leaving Westport for Maam Cross we are now heading for the spiritually haunting experience of Connemara national park, a magical ride

From Maam cross ride to Roundstone coastal village than continue to Clifden

From Clifden town take the aptly named ‘Sky Road’ with outstanding sea views are you ride higher and higher to the viewing area

Continue to Kylemore abbey for hot scones and freshly brewed tea This is a magnificent Benedictine Abbey in a stunningly beautiful wooded valley

Ride to Leenane village look at Irelands deepest Fjord, than ride the incredible and narrow Doo Lough mountain pass, the Gem of Mayo, with towering mountains on either side of you

Doo Lough Pass is steeped in history, some quite sad as many Irish people died of starvation along this pass during the great hunger, the famine years of the late 1840s.

There is a stone cross commemorating those who perished and a famine walk every year along this stunningly beautiful area. The words on the cross are very poignant and it is worthwhile to stop here for a short while.

Ride back now Westport via Louisburgh and admire Irelands holy mountain ‘Croagh Patrick’ en route back to Westport

Day 5 – Westport to Bunratty (2 nights in Bunratty) (132 Miles/ 210 Km)

  • Departing Westport ride to Leenane than skirt around Galway city.

Take the N67 coast road to Kinvara village, optional visit to Dunquire Castle, you can walk up a very narrow stone stairwell to the top of the castle

Optional visit to Aillwee caves, a subterranean cave deep under the Burren, a great tourist attraction. Park bikes in the upper car park with fantastic views across Galway bay.

The Burren National park is unique in the world; it is a vast limestone plateau covering 400 sq kms(250 sq miles).

Next stop is Poulnabrone megalithic portal Tomb, many thousands of years old. You are now in the heart of the Burren National Park Skirt around Ennis and continue to Bunratty Village.

Enjoy a four course medieval meal in Bunratty castle, or a traditional night of Irish food and dance in the Corn Barn, alternatively Durty Neely’s is a great old pub in the village

Day 6 – Your second day in Bunratty. Bunratty to Bunratty (117 Miles/ 186 Km)

  • Ride to Ennistymon and continue to the Cliffs of Moher, magnificent vertical cliffs towering over the Atlantic Ocean, shortlisted to be one of the great natural wonders of the World.

Travel onwards to Doolin, optional and exciting ferry ride to see the cliffs from the ocean, spectacular on a sunny day.

Follow the route north along the coast road to Blackhead, stopping at Murrooughtoohy car park. Take a walk on this bizarre limestone beach with millions of boulders deposited from the last Ice age, and beautiful wild orchids living in cracks in the limestone rock. A short walk brings you to the ocean.

Continue along the route to Ballyvaughan than ride to Lisdoonvarna (famous the world over for its matchmaking festival in Sept) via Corkscrew hill, very tight hairpins.

Follow the route to Kilfenora, interesting visitor centre there, optional, continue back to Bunratty accommodation via Carrofin.

Day 7 – Bunratty to Celtic Rider Rental Station (138 Miles/ 230 Km)

  • Leaving Bunratty ride to the M7, and take this pleasant 2 lane highway through the midlands of Ireland to Dublin and Celtic Rider.

From Kilkenny continue to Celtic Rider and fuel up before returning motorcycle/s.

Returning to our rental station, we can assist with unpacking, your motorcycle or Spyder check-over, and complete the paperwork and pre-auth. If you don’t have a taxi App on your phone we can call one for you.

Motorbike Self Guided GPX Tours Ireland 2023/24

Denis Smyth April 26th 2024 01:29 pm

New Self Guided Tours route packs available for 2024. All routes supplied as either generic .gpx files (works for all satnavs, most apps, google maps etc) or Garmin .gdp files. All the routes are created in Garmin BaseCamp and based on both my guided tours and personal gallivanting.

Each pack contains 2 folders:

  • Folder 1 = Routes, either in GPX or GDB format.
  • Folder 2 – All POI’s and routes in Google Earth .kml format so you can familiarise yourself with the tour routes in Street View or load into your “MyMaps account in Google Maps and navigate the routes that way.

All the .gpx/.gdb routes are supplied as separate day routes, so Day 1, Day 2 etc. Each Route begins and ends at a suggested 3 star hotel accommodation that generally has safe parking, wifi, food etc . These hotels are places I’ve stayed in myself, usually multiple times. You of course don’t have to use them as their purpose is just route shaping points. Other nearby accommodation options are supplied in the POI folder, so if you choose another accommodation option you just need to simply amend the day route start/end points to reflect your amended route.

All Motorbike Tours Ireland 2023 – Self Guided Tours

For the most part all the day routes cover between 200km and 300km per day and generally take aprox 5-6 hours in the saddle. So, by the time you take in photo/coffee/food stops factor in roughly 8 hours per day travel time between accommodations. Obviously those times are approximate as riding experience, weather, traffic and knackered prostates causing regular pit stops can slow you down.

How to get the routes. Email me at [email protected] with the route pack you’re looking for and I’ll email you back with the routes within a zipped file once payment is made. Payment can be made in Euros using either PayPal or Wise for GBP/USD, let me know which you prefer and I’ll send you the acc details.

Note: Once you load these .gpx or .gdb files onto your satnav or routing smartphone app it’s important to check the loaded route against the corresponding .kml file in Google Earth/Maps. Certain apps or satnavs have avoidance/preference options like “avoid motorways”, “ferries”, “small lanes/link roads”, “choose shortest/quickest route” etc. If you have these options checked on your device they may easily override my intended route and change the route to cater for your checked preferences. If you notice your device changing the routes it’s best to clear the preference/avoid options on your device and re-load the routes. If you’ve any questions just email me and I’ll get back to you asap. For the longer SGT routes I’m happy to arrange a call to talk you through the routes, answer any questions etc.

Currently most of these routes are intended for motorcycles which can easily access the smaller roads and/or mountain passes, some of the roads are not suited for larger vehicles as they use narrow single lane roads. If you need a custom tour or need me to amend the SGT’s to cater for larger cars, campervans etc. just drop me an email.

Note on accommodation: My advice, unless you’re camping plan well ahead of time. At the best of times the west coast in summer is busy. However, currently half or more of the tourist beds in Ireland are reserved for “corporate bookings”, i.e. the Irish government has taken the bulk of hotel beds to house our refugee friends from Ukraine. This is most evident in the Cork and Kerry regions where 40-45% of refugees have been given accommodation. So there’s far less tourist beds than usual and competition is extremely high for good locations. This may continue for some time so, like I said, plan well ahead to ensure the best possible road trip. I’ve included over 160 biker friendly hotels within my routes, but of course there are far more accommodation options than that in Ireland. If the listing in my route pack don’t work for you here are some links below to help you.

About Road Trooper

I’ve had a wide range of jobs over the last 15 years, originally qualifying as a chef before becoming a computer systems engineer, technical illustrator, graphic designer and finally a landscape photographer.

Over the years landscape photography has become close to an obsession that will regularly see me abandoning a perfectly good bed at 4am to climb some mountain in the hope of getting a good dawn shot. This works well with my other passion, motorbikes! Over the last 20 years I’ve toured all over Europe... Read more »

Media of Ireland and Northern Ireland (16 days)

About this tour: ireland and northern ireland (16 days), ireland is an amazing travel destination..

The nature is incredibly rich and diverse. One moment you have a view of lovely green slopes, while further on you can see a rugged rock formation rising from the ocean. The rich Irish culture, stunning places, and ancient monasteries, castles, manors, and ruins in the landscape will enchant you. Thanks to the generous hospitality of the Irish, you will quickly feel at ease here. You will stay in very good hotels, so you will not lack nothing. During this trip, you will discover all of Ireland in 16 days.

Are you from Ireland? Please inform us, because your trip doesn't include ferry crossings. We will arrange the price with you.

Day route 1: Calais - Folkstone - Crickhowell | 267 / 422 / 462 km

If you are not from the UK or Ireland, this trip starts at the Euroshuttle in Calais. Here you take the shuttle to Folkstone. You will arrive in Folkstone in about 20 minutes, where you will start the first day's route to Crickowell. You have a choice between two routes, both of which are over 400km. You will drive on typical English roads through vast landscapes. The green tunnels in the woods are unique to this area. It's peaceful driving on the country roads, which are sometimes wide and sometimes so narrow that you really can talk about a single track. The route ends at the hotel in Wales.

The first day's route covers long distances. You can optionally book an overnight stay in Frensham. This will split the route in half, giving you more time to ride the routes. You can also choose to take the shuttle in Calais around noon. You can choose this option during the booking process.

Please take note: if you live in England or Ireland, the ferry crossing from Calais to Folkstone is not necessary, as if the ferry crossings when you are from Ireland. Therefore, the price will be slightly cheaper. Does this apply to you? Then please send an email to [email protected]  or call: +31(0) 493 320 235.

Day route 2: Wales and the ferry to Ireland | 274 km

From the hotel, you will drive a beautiful route through Wales towards Fishguard. The route goes via the historic town of Abergavenny, where various border wars were fought. Here you will pass through the Brecon National Park which is home to the Black Mountains, a stunning area that is still widely undiscovered by tourism. You can enjoy riding through the impressive landscape and with fun winding roads. At the end of the route, you will drive through the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. In Fishguard, you will take the ferry that makes the 3.5-hour crossing to Ireland.

Once you arrive in Ireland, the route is only about 20km to the hotel.

Day route 3: Ring of Hook | 259 km

Today, you will ride the "Ring of Hook" to arrive in Kinsale. It is a loop along the coast with various sights along the route. Ireland has a long history which you will get to see a lot of. The Irish people attach great importance to this. They are a proud people with a rough edge. Their island is everything to them, and they love to share it with you. The route is full of beautiful views and various sights, such as Hook Head Lighthouse, Duncannon Fort, Mahon Falls, The Wreck of Samson, and Blarney Stone. All set against a stunning landscape and an impressive coastline.

Day route 4: WIld Atlantic Way | 163 / 300 km

You will start today by driving along the coast on the Wild Atlantic Way. This route is 2,500km long and follows the entire coastline on the left side of Ireland. Today's route includes both a short and a long route. The short route ends at the hotel, while the long route continues on an extra loop over the Ring of Beara.

Once again, today's drive offers a combination of enjoyable roads, stunning views, and various attractions to suit all tastes. If you take the short route, you will have extra time to visit the sights, such as Mizen Head, where you can walk over a bridge suspended between two rocks, a unique and beautiful place. The long route takes you to the Ring of Beara, an extra loop of about 140km that is highly recommended for those who enjoy extra kilometers through this beautiful landscape.

The hotel is located in Bantry, where you will stay for two nights, so you can drive the Ring of Kerry tomorrow.

Day route 5: Ring of Kerry | 328 km

The winding roads of this route with lots of twists and turns add another dimension to the journey. Once again, Ireland showcases its most beautiful and best side here. The impressive nature, with a combination of many trees and large lakes (lough in Irish), completes the picture. On this route, you drive via fun challenging roads to Killarney, where the Ring of Kerry begins. You'll drive past the large Lough Leane with Ross Castle on the edge of the lake to reach the Gap of Dunloe. A narrow mountain pass between mountain ranges and purple slate (Purple Mountain). The descent route takes you to Black Valley, where a river flows with black stones. The scenery constantly presents you with new views to enjoy, even when driving through Ballaghbeama Gap and Ballaghbeama Pass.

You will follow the Ring of Kerry for about 180km during the route. It is Ireland's most popular round trip, and once you have driven it, you will understand why.

Day route 6: Via the west coast to Spanish Point | 335 km

Today's route takes you on a section of the Ring of Kerry before heading northward along the Wild Atlantic Way to Spanish Point. It's the last coastal route of this trip in Ireland. You'll leave the hotel and immediately head into the mountains on beautiful narrow roads, once again enjoying the ride on your motorbike. At Kenmare, you'll briefly return to the Ring of Kerry until you reach Killarney. From there, you'll continue along the coastal road to Slea Head, where you'll ride the Slea Head Drive. You'll also pass many prehistoric remains, such as Fort Dunberg (500 BC). You'll then continue on the Wild Atlantic Way via Connor Pass to Spanish Point. Before arriving in Spanish Point, you'll take a short ferry crossing of 20 minutes.

Day route 7: Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Clew Bay

The route starts along the coastal road until you arrive at the Cliffs of Moher. It's just a few minutes' walk from the car park to reach the cliffs. These are the highest cliff coasts in Europe! Next, the route takes you on the Burren Coast Road. After a few kilometers, you can visit the Doolin Cave, which has the largest stalactite in the northern hemisphere. You also enter the Burren area, which is a vast area of limestone. It is said of this area: "no water enough to drown a man, no tree to hang him, no soil to bury." It's a unique area to drive through. Then you head towards Galway where you can enjoy a delicious lunch. After a lunch stop, you continue along the Atlantic Way along the coast. Today, you will also pass through the town of Westport on Clew Bay. This is one of the most beautiful towns in Ireland, where you will find the hotel for this day's route.

Day 8: Rest day in Westport

Today you have a rest day where you can explore the town of Westport. You can also choose to enjoy the pool, sauna or whirlpool if the weather is good. It is recommended to take a walk on Croagh Patrick. This is part of a pilgrimage route. Croagh Patrick is a mountain of 764 meters in the west of Ireland. Every last Sunday of July, a pilgrimage takes place here. It is also known as the holy mountain of Ireland. Near the hotel you will find Westport House, an 18th century residence that is definitely worth taking a picture of!

Day route 9: Ballycroy National Park

Today, you'll first drive a winding, wide road inland. After 30 km, you'll turn onto a narrower road along the coast with beautiful views. After a few kilometers, you'll arrive at Ballycroy National Park. Ballycroy National Park is an Irish national park that was established in 1998 in County Mayo. It consists of bogland, cliffs, mountains, and many river valleys. The route continues northward, and once you reach the coast, you'll see the Dún Briste Sea Stack in the water. This is a large block of rocks in the middle of the sea where fighting took place during World War II. You'll then wind your way to Sligo, the "Shell Place." The route will then take you on beautiful roads to Donegal, where you'll find the hotel for tonight.

Day route 10: Donegal and Slieve Leagh

After a delicious breakfast, you hop back on the motorcycle to begin the next day's route. The first few kilometers of today's journey take you past various lakes and mountains before making a large loop through the province of Donegal. After about 20km, you'll come across three round stone huts known as the Beehive Huts, which were inhabited until 1200. Then the route continues to the Slieve Leagh Cliffs along the coast, a beautiful spot for a photo opportunity. Next, you'll head to the Glengesh Pass, a stunning, peaceful route through the mountains. After many more remarkable kilometers, you'll arrive at Glenveagh National Park, which is well worth a visit and an enjoyable drive. Finally, you'll reach the coast again and drive the last stretch to Letterkenny.

Day route 11: Ireland border to Belfast in Northern Ireland

Today, you'll head towards Northern Ireland. The first kilometers will take you to An Grianan Aileach, a 12th-century stone ringfort. From there, you'll cross directly into Northern Ireland and follow the coastline, where you'll be treated to beautiful views. Along the way, you'll come across a beautiful ruin and beaches that are just as famous as the numerous golf courses. You'll then follow the Causeway Coastal Route, passing by Dunluce Castle, a 14th-century castle perched on the edge of a large sea cliff. The route continues to the Giant's Causeway, which is a collection of 40,000 hexagonal pillars along the coast formed millions of years ago by volcanic activity. Afterward, you'll ride along the Antrim Glens Coast, a stunning coastal road perfect for cruising. The final stretch of the route will take you along a major road to the hotel near Belfast.

Day route 12: Mourne Mountains, Tollymore Forest Park to Dublin

You'll start from Belfast on a big busy road today. But soon you'll take an exit to drive on beautiful roads. You'll drive through the North Irish villages along the coast. The coastlines here are less rugged and therefore flatter. You'll continue on the Mourne Coastal route and see the big mountains in the distance again. You'll leave the coast behind and drive into the Mourne Mountains and Still Valley. The Mourne Mountains are a granite mountain range in southeast Northern Ireland. You'll have the opportunity to visit Tollymore Forest Park here. This park has many panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the sea of Newcastle. Then the route continues to the big city: Dublin. The hotel is just outside the busy center. With the metro around the corner, you can easily get to the city center if you want to stay there in the evening.

Day route 13: Rest day Dublin

On this day, you have a rest day. Because once you're in Dublin, you'll want to explore the city, of course! Dublin is the capital of Ireland and has countless attractions. You can easily get to the center of the city via the tram near the hotel. Here, you can take the hop-on hop-off bus to visit all the highlights of Dublin. You can visit Trinity College Library, the most beautiful library in the world, as well as St. Stephen's Green Park, Dublin Castle, the Irish Museum, Dublin Bay, and Kilmainham Gaol, which is highly recommended. This is a prison that was only closed in 1986. You can also visit the Guinness brewery. There's plenty to do in this beautiful city!

Day route 14: Ferry to Holyhead and Snowdonia National Park

Today you will also wake up early to take the ferry from Dublin to Holyhead. You leave Ireland and set course for Wales. In Wales, you arrive at Snowdonia National Park. It is wonderful to ride through the hills of this beautiful national park. In Wales, you can once again enjoy the green, vast landscapes. You cross Wales from northwest to southeast. Today's hotel is located in the Brecon Beacons in Crickhowell. This is an area of Wales where you have also drove on the way to Ireland, and it's the same hotel as on that day.

Day route 15: Cotswolds to Frensham | 309 km

After driving through a small part of Wales, you enter England again. You drive through the Brecon Beacons into the Forest of Dean district, heading towards the Cotswolds, one of the many natural areas on this trip. After the Cotswolds, you drive through a busier part of England, which you easily cross in a smooth manner. The hotel is a typical English hotel with the associated neat hospitality, as only in England can be found. During this last night, take a moment to reminisce and remember the beautiful trip you have taken. This is the same hotel that you can optionally reserve at the beginning of the trip.

Day route 16: Cliffs of Birling Gap & Holy Head | 244km + 267 km

The last day's route is a short one back to Folkestone where the journey began. Here, you will take the Eurotunnel Shuttle under the English Channel back to Calais. From Calais, you can find your own way back home at the end of the afternoon. If you are far from home when you arrive in Calais, you may choose to reserve an extra night's stay in Calais. We kindly request that you mention this in the comments section of the booking, and we will gladly provide you with the price.

But before you reach the tunnel, we have planned a beautiful route that will take you through the beautiful parts of southern England and past some lovely sights. You will pass by Birling Gap and Beachy Head, where you can stand at the edge of the famous English White Cliffs with just a few meters of walking. At Birling Gap, you can descend to the pebble beach from the car park via a steel staircase, and at Beachy Head, you can walk up the grassy terrain to the White Cliffs to see the lighthouse of the same name. After this, you will continue on to the Eurotunnel via the beautiful, classic English village of Rye.

If you are from the UK, you don't need the shuttle service. Are you from Ireland? You also don't need the ferry crossings. We will inform you about the discount.

Discover with us, the Emerald Isle on this 8-day Guided motorcycle tour of Ireland that will take you around the whole island on a Harley-Davidson. Your motorcycle tour begins in the Northern Ireland capital of Belfast and leads you past beautiful country roads with ancient castles and abbeys over to the west to Donegal. Visit Dunluce Castle, Kylemore Abbey and the famous Cliffs of Moher, then the world famous Ring of Kerry awaits you, a roundtrip through the picturesque peninsula of Kerry with its rugged mountains and impressive cliffs. The Route for the Motorcycle Tours Ireland

Day 1: Belfast

Belfast

Welcome to Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. After arrival we pick you up from the airport for a transfer to your hotel. In the evening we invite you for a Welcome Drink and Dinner and give you more information about our common Ireland adventure.

Day 2: Belfast > Donegal

Dunluce Castle, Ireland

Collecting the Harley-Davidson motorycles from the rental office, starting the motorcycle tour and heading to Carrickfergus Castle, Kinbane Head and the worldfamous Dunluce Castle. If possible, we also visit an original Game Of Thrones filming location. We will spend the night in Donegal where you can enjoy an Irish pub in the evening.

Day 3: Donegal > Clifden

Kylemore Abbey, Ireland

We will cruise pass the impressive table mountain Ben Bulbin and visit Kylemore Abbey and its elaborately designed gardens. Our overnight stay is in the Connemara National Park in Clifden.

Day 4: Clifden > Tralee

Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

The stone grave The Dolmen is a must to visit and of course we'll have a closer look at the world famous Cliffs of Moher with the O'Brien Tower.

Day 5: Tralee > Killarney

After a photo stop at the Blennerville Windmill, the largest windmill in Ireland, we will pass over the Connor Pass, visit the Gallarus Oratory and pass Slea Head directly on the coast. Day 6: Killarney > Cork

Healy Pass, Ireland

Today on the agenda is a dream ride along the world famous Ring of Kerry, the Ring of Beara and the overwhelming Healy Pass as well as visiting Blarney Castle near Cork. According to a legend, kissing the Blarney Stone endows the kisser with the gift of persuasive speech - what a day!

Day 7: Cork > Dublin

Hook Lighthouse, Ireland

Starting from Cork, we will reach early in the morning the Heritage Center in Queenstown, which gives us an insight on the migration of several million Irish to the New World. Queenstown was also the last port of call of the Titanic on its sad maiden voyage. A visit to the more than 800 year old Hook Lighthouse, the oldest still operating lighthouse in the world, will round off this eventful day.

Day 8: Dublin > Belfast

Ride to the Peak District national park to meet up with your guide and tour mates and break the ice over dinner in a beautiful country house hotel. You'll be all set to head to Holyhead port the following day for your crossing to Ireland. After docking, stay overnight in Dublin before riding the east coast to Belfast, arriving in time for an afternoon in the city. The following day is dedicated to exploring Belfast, with a visit to the Titanic quarter at the docks to explore both the history of the most famous passenger ship in the world, and visit the beautifully restored SS Nomadic Titanic’s sister ship and the last surviving White Star liner. There are also added options to tour the infamous Crumlin Road jail, walk in the lush botanical gardens or visit Queen's University.

From here we say goodbye to Belfast and journey to Londonderry, with lots to see off the bike- including visits to two iconic Irish sites, the Giant's Causeway and the birthplace of modern Irish Whisky in the village of Bushmills, where you can take a distillery tour. A nice relaxing ride the next day to Ballina as you cruise down the west coast of Ireland and cross into the Irish Republic, where our lunch stop incorporates a water-bus tour of Donegal bay that is not to be missed!

Ben, Magellan Guide

I love riding the rural roads in Ireland. Traffic free, glorious views, and just over the water. One of my favourite tours for sure.

Beautiful roads & scenery

Heading south to Galway bay, we find ourselves on some of the very best biking roads in Ireland as voted by Irish bikers themselves. Following the waypoints to stay on track, our route skirts both Ballycroy and Connemara national parks - which will guarantee an appreciation for the Irish love of road racing!

Leaving Galway we ride around (not through!) the prehistoric bogs of Ireland, including the areas around the famous Maghera and Woodcock hill bogs. After lunch we find ourselves on one of the most scenic roads in Ireland, the internationally famous World Heritage route called The Ring of Kerry. Another firm favourite riding route with Irish bikers. This coastal route is widely acclaimed as one of the top 5 most beautiful road journeys in the British Isles.

motorcycle tours ireland self guided

Heading to Waterford, with its amazing Viking history, we ride around Kenmare Bay and again pass several prehistoric peat bogs before following the river Lee to Macroom. We then have a short ride to Blarney castle to kiss the world-famous Blarney stone, which Irish legend has it will give you the ‘gift of the gab’.

We have a short final day in Ireland as the ferry check-in closes at 2pm with some nice scenic roads in the Wicklow Mountains National Park, and a chance to buy last minute souvenirs too. From here we cross to the island of Holyhead, next to Anglesey and the British mainland once more. Your final night of the tour will be back in the beautiful Peak District national park, ready to head for home the following day, or to explore the Peaks before joining our Scotland tour heading north!

'Deep blue sea, a cold sky, winds off the north Atlantic. Sheep graze above rocky cliffs, fields defined by stone walls, ancient structures ignore the passage of time, pleasant empty stretches of road. Periodic settlements of tightly clustered buildings, some with little castles hinting the Vikings could be just over the horizon….Magellan Motorcycle Tours did a great job.'

Visit and explore the Crag cave system, one of the best underground experiences in Ireland.

Visit Blarney Castle and kiss the legendary Blarney Stone to get the famous “gift of the gab”.
