Liam Gallagher gifts giant Oasis ‘Definitely Maybe’ globe for installation at Manchester’s Co-op Live

The new venue has also donated £25,000 to a charity of the singer's choice, Happy Doggo

Liam Gallagher has gifted the giant globe from his 30th anniversary ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour to an installation at the Co-op Live in Manchester.

The soloist and former Oasis frontman played four headline shows at the new arena earlier this summer, where he performed the Britpop band’s 1994 debut album in full and showcased rarities from that era – including the Noel-sung B-side ‘Half The World Away’ .

LG’s stage set up for the celebratory gigs featured a recreation of the large globe that appears on the ‘Definitely Maybe’ artwork, along with other items from the iconic front sleeve.

It came after Liam told fans that he was “gonna go for it visually” at the concerts , and “bring the cover alive”.

Now, it has been announced that the singer has donated his giant globe to the Co-op Live as “a semi-permanent fixture”. It’ll soon be displayed in the venue’s atrium, The Street, to celebrate Liam’s run of shows and to further commemorate three decades of ‘Definitely Maybe’.

Additionally, the Co-op Live has donated £25,000 to Liam’s chosen charity, Happy Doggo . Launched in 2021, the organisation reduces the suffering of stray dogs by offering support, sanctuary and welfare worldwide.

A press release reads: “The donation aligns with the venue’s wider commitment to supporting charities and causes that performers are linked to. Further signifying Co-op Live’s commitment to charity, the venue will also encourage fans to add donations through in-venue QR codes, digital and physical activations.” Visit here to donate .

Rebecca Kane Burton, Interim General Manager at Co-op Live, said: “There’s nothing more fitting than immortalising a part of Liam Gallagher’s triumphant homecoming as a fixture in the venue.

“It’s great to be able to pair this with a donation to Liam’s chosen charity, Happy Doggo, and to encourage many more fans to do the same as they walk through Co-op Live’s doors.”

Niall Harbison, founder and CEO at Happy Doggo, added: “We couldn’t be happier that [rescue dog] Buttons found her home with Liam and Debbie . Not only have they provided the best home we could ever hope for, they have and continue to be such incredible supporters of our mission.

“Together with Co-op Live, we’ve changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of street dogs already.”

Back in June, Liam praised the new Co-op Live venue – saying it was “up there with New York’s Madison Square Garden” . His return to the stage in Manchester was also marked with a blue plaque at a branch of Lidl – where he “almost” played .

This weekend will see LG perform ‘Definitely Maybe’ in its entirety when he headlines Reading & Leeds 2024 .

You can find any remaining tickets for this year’s festivals  here (Reading)  and  here (Leeds) . Alternatively, those who aren’t attending can  see how to watch coverage online and at home .

The 30th anniversary of Oasis’ seminal debut album is also being celebrated with a special reissue of the record , which is out next Friday (August 30) via Big Brother. You can pre-order it here .

Fans have already been given a taste of the forthcoming collection with a rare alternative version of ‘Sad Song’ sung by Liam , as well as ‘Up In The Sky (Monnow Valley Version)’ and ‘Columbia (Sawmills Outtake)’ .

In other news,  Noel Gallagher has said he is still trying to “live up” to the success of Oasis’ first two albums .

“We went directly from the last night of the ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour to record ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’, and then spent the following 29 years – and counting – trying to live up to both albums,” he recalled.

“We knew the songs were great because we played them every night and all the shows were outrageous. But at that time it was just a good album – nothing more, nothing less. It’s only through time that it has become what it is now.”

Meanwhile,  Liam Gallagher has talked about the chances of a ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory’ 30th anniversary tour in 2025 .

He recently launched a series of ‘Definitely Maybe’-inspired signed prints in aid of War Child.

Tattu team’s new Italian-American restaurant and music venue confirms opening date

No photos, reservations only, dinner-only, and live performances - this really is brand new for Manchester.

Daisy Jackson

Louis, a new Italian-American restaurant in the heart of Manchester with a ‘no photos’ policy, has finally confirmed its opening date.

The venue, first announced in February , comes from the same team behind Tattu and Fenix (two of the city’s most beautiful restaurants) and is set to be a haven of live music, excellent cooking and cocktails.

Louis is inspired by the classic New York restaurants that are often seen on the silver screen, filled with intimate booths and a tiered seating design centred around the main stage.

The ambitious new project has been taking shape in Spinningfields for several months now, with hoardings that look like dark red theatre curtains draped around the space.

Louis has now confirmed that it will be delivering its take on mid-20th century New York on 13 September – and it’s teased what’s in store for the menu.

Diners will be able to feast on an Italian-American menu that features a from-scratch Caesar salad, veal chops with crispy potatoes in marinara, and Iberico meatballs.

There’ll be a dedicated pasta workshop adjacent to the Louis kitchen, where fan favourites like rigatoni alla vodka and tagliatelle bolognese will be whipped up.

The menu has been crafted by executive chef Ippokratis Anagnostelis (the visionary behind Fenix’s acclaimed Mediterranean menu), and Italian chef Matteo D’Elia, who has worked previously at restaurants including Il Gattopardo, the Broadwick Soho and Bacchanalia.

Louis in Manchester has also revealed details of its menu. Credit: Permanently Unique Group

Will Meredith, the head of beverage, will curate a 12-drink menu that celebrates American classic cocktails, divided into aperitifs, dinner cocktails, and digestifs.

Standout creations will include the Bloody Maria, the Manhattan, and the PB&J Old Fashioned.

Louis will offer the ‘best seat in the house’ to every single guest through its tiered design, which places a spotlight on the live acts.

It will be wrapped in deep velvet with classic Italian marble hugging the room, and there’ll be intimate tables shrouded with cafe curtains dotted around the space.

The bar itself will be adorned with large chains to lure people over with warm lighting and glimmering gold tones.

Louis will also be home to more than £1 million-worth of modern fine art, including pieces by Marco Battaglini, Alec Monopoly, Brainwash and Ted Todd.

As for the music, there’ll be a weekly roster of performers from soul singers to pianists to jazz quartets and full swing bands.

Louis will be a dinner-only venue, open five nights a week, with a reservation-only policy.

And it will encourage a no-photos policy, urging guests to live the moment rather than create content, while also maintaining the privacy and enjoyment of other guests.

This is the latest venture for the Permanently Unique Group, who have already crafted (and expanded) Tattu and Fenix into some of the UK’s most popular venues.

Louis will open at 3 Hardman Square in Manchester on Friday 13 September 2024.

Sacha Lord is ramping up excitement for another night of celebrating regional hospitality by once again giving away free drinks to locals at a mystery Manchester venue this weekend.

The Night Time Economy Adviser has shown his support for a number of local venues over the past couple of years, especially in the wake of Covid and the cost of living crisis – this is just his latest stunt in his efforts to show his support for local communities.

Resharing his original post on X across his social media platforms , the Parklife and Warehouse Project co-founder wrote: “Now, more than ever, we need to support Manchester’s hospitality venues.”

Cue the massive, well, queues…

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sacha Lord (@sacha_lord)

As teased in the post, details surrounding the night of complimentary drinks are scarce; the 52-year-old would only offer up notice of when Mancs will be told of the location and that the free drinks offer will run from 4-5pm this Sunday.

In fact, it still remains unclear whether the chosen venue is a pub, bar or something else entirely; given that previous occasions have included hosting a secret gig in a derelict Manchester building which also included an open bar, it could be anything.

Other nights of freebies courtesy of Lord’s wallet have included footing the bill at the Thirsty Korean , giving away free chippy teas last Christmas, and even buying up billboard space to spotlight 10 Greater Manchester businesses.

The Altrincham -born entrepreneur recently stepped away from his roles at Parklife and WHP to “focus on the next chapter”, insisting that the decision wasn’t an easy one, but continues to have a huge impact on nurturing the evening and late-night scene in the city centre and beyond.

His remit has extended beyond the likes of hospitality, music and entertainment of late too, as he became the Chair of Wythenshawe Amateurs Football Club in April of last year.

But his roots in hospitality and the Night Time Economy at large have remained strong throughout, spotlighting other notable Manc food and drink figures like Gary Usher, who delivered what he dubbed “ one of the best Sunday roasts ” he’d had in years.

It’s likely this won’t be the last time Sacha Lord hands out a load of free drinks to hordes of Mancs but you can guarantee the queue will be massive wherever it happens to pop up.

There’s been no shortage of appreciation for these nights in the past too, with commenters applauding his most recent covering of the bar tab at the. Long may it continue — we’ve got a lot of respect for anyone who always makes sure to get their round in.

Looking for lunch ideas? A popular street food restaurant is giving you the chance to scran its stunning bao buns for just £1 each.

After bursting onto the flourishing local food scene back in March of last year , and taking over a three-storey space inside the iconic Great Northern Warehouse , just off Deansgate in the heart of the city centre , Suki Suki has easily gone on to become one of Mancs’ favourite places to head to if they want to grab a quick bite to eat.

The venue’s extensive menu is full of market-style street food dishes, all inspired by the bustling streets of East Asia.

Coming from the same family behind beloved Manchester restaurant, Namaste Nepal, the Pan Asian Street food eatery is known and loved for its fluffy bao buns, flavourful noodles, and fresh dumplings, alongside a menu full of loads of fun cocktails and craft beer.

The stunning venue is housed within an exposed brick archway, and is delicately decked-out with Herringbone booth seating, high bar stools, ambient lighting, and rattan finishings too.

But why exactly is it launching the unmissable £1 offer? Well, in case you didn’t know, this Thursday (22 August) is National Bao Day, and in a bid to properly mark this tasty occasion, Suki Suki will be slashing the price of its popular bao buns from 12pm to 6pm.

Available while stocks last, there’ll be loads of options of the fan-favourite buns to choose from.

For meat lovers, you can choose from flavours like Korean Chicken, Teriyaki Pork Belly, and Hoisin Duck, while seafood fans can take their pick from delicacies such as Soft Shell Crab, and veggies and vegans can tuck into Spicy Tofu baos.

Fancy it then?

  • A new Manchester city centre venue is giving away 500 FREE coffees this week
  • You can get endless bao buns and cocktails at this Chinese bottomless brunch in Altrincham
  • Hello Oriental to open new ‘seriously affordable’ Asian food hall at the Trafford Centre

If a £1 bao sounds right up your street, then you’ll want to run not walk down to Suki Suki at Great Northern from 12pm tomorrow (22 August) and get stuck in.

Blossoms at Wythenshawe Park - times, support acts, how to get there, map and parking

Blossoms huge homecoming gig will take place at wythenshawe park this sunday - here's everything you need to know including stage times, support acts and how to get there.

  • Updated 09:58, 20 AUG 2024

Blossoms will perform at Wythenshawe Park on Sunday, August 25

Stockport lads Blossoms are just days away from playing their 'biggest ever' gig, as they prepare to take over Wythenshawe Park this weekend.

The all-day outdoor concert will take place on on Sunday, 25 August, and follows on from the band's sold-out Castlefield Bowl gig at Sounds of the City last summer . The all-day event will see support from the likes of Inhaler and Shed Seven.

Part of a full weekend of live music at Wythenshawe Park, it marks a year since fellow Manc music idol Noel Gallagher became the first to ever play a live gig in the setting. Saturday will see New Order take to the stage with an all-star lineup of support acts too.

Speaking about the show last year, Tom Ogden, lead vocalist of Blossoms, said: ‘Headlining our biggest show yet at Wythenshawe Park is going to be THE moment of our career so far for us.

"It makes me think of me and Joe going to watch Oasis and The Stone Roses at Heaton Park back when we were teenagers, and how important these big summer Manchester shows are to people.

"It made us want to be in a band, affected what we wore and changed our lives forever. To misquote Dorothy, 'Lads, I've a feeling we're not on Oldham Street anymore!'

Formed in Stockport by school friends Tom Ogden, Joe Donovan, Charlie Salt, Joshua Dewhurst and Myles Kellock, Blossoms have enjoyed widespread success. Their 2016 debut ‘Blossoms’ topped the album charts for two consecutive weeks and went on to earn the band BRIT Award and Mercury Prize nominations.

This week, the group have also confirmed a 2024 UK tour which will stop off in cities including London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds and Glasgow. At present, no Manchester date has been announced as part of the tour.

In September, Blossoms will release their fifth album 'Gary' - which is, naturally, named after a 8-foot fibreglass gorilla that was stolen from Reynard Garden in Carluke, Scotland last year.

The album, co-produced by regular collaborator James Skelly of The Coral alongside Jungle’s Josh-Lloyd Watson, also features two tracks co-written with rising country singer CMAT.

If you're heading down to Wythenshawe Park this Sunday, here's everything you need to know about Blossoms homecoming gig.

Who are the support acts?

Support at the event will come from Dublin’s Inhaler and Shed Seven. Following Inhaler’s sold-out gig at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse in May last year, the Dublin quartet, headed up by Elijah Hewson, return to Manchester for what should hopefully be another stunning live performance.

Another big return, Shed Seven will play their biggest Manchester date yet celebrating the 30th anniversary of their incredible back catalogue.

Other acts joining Blossoms at Wythenshawe Park include The K’s, Seb Lowe and recent ‘To Do List (After The Breakup) collaborator, Findlay, who will kick things off at Wythenshawe Park with her band Ttrruuces.

What are the set times?

Doors are due to open at 2pm on Sunday - although all stage timings listed here are subject to change, so the advice is always to get into the gig as soon as you can to ensure you don't miss out on any of the acts.

  • The Guestlist - 2pm - 15:15pm
  • Ttrruuces - 15:40pm - 16:10pm
  • Seb Lowe - 16:35pm - 17:05pm
  • The K's - 17:40pm - 18:05pm
  • Shed Seven - 18:35pm - 19:15pm
  • Inhaler - 19:45pm - 20:30pm
  • Blossoms - 21:00pm - 22:30pm

Map of the venue

Here is the map of the venue, including the two entrances, and where to head if you have purchased VIP tickets.

Is there parking?

Organisers are trying to encourage people to be as green as possible with their travel plans and to walk or cycle if they can. However for those travelling in by car, there are limited car parking tickets on sale, for a price of £16.91. The car parks are off Altrincham Road and you can buy these tickets online here .

Once the car parking is sold out, organisers say there is no provision for parking on site on the night.

The nearest Park and Ride sites to Wythenshawe Park are: - Sale Water Park (285 spaces, 16 disabled spaces) - East Didsbury (278 spaces, 18 disabled spaces)

If you park at Sale Water Park, you can take the tram directly to Moor Road in less than 10 minutes.

If you park at East Didsbury, take the tram to St Werburgh’s Road and then transfer to the Airport line for Moor Road.

Is there a pick up/drop off area?

Wythenshawe Park - the spot in the park where Blossoms will play in August 2024

If you are being dropped off or picked up, including by a taxi, you are advised to follow the yellow event signage to the north of the site. The Pick up and drop off area is advised as Tesco at Altrincham Road, Manchester M23 9TJ.

What are the public transport options?

There are three tram stops close to the park - Wythenshawe Park, Moor Road and Baguley stations - which will be available to arrive at the gig.

However, both Wythenshawe Park and Baguley will be closed from 9pm so you won't be able to get home from these stations. Moor Road is the station people will be able to leave from after the gig.

To help fans get to Wythenshawe for the show, the band have partnered up with Andy Burnham ’s Bee Network to launch a special Blossoms bus . The buses will run from Stockport Interchange between 4pm and 8pm, and return fans back there from Wythenshawe Park from 10pm to 1am.

The service will see buses run every six minutes, meaning it will be a flexible option for fans looking to get to the festival site with ease - and will take just 20 minutes. The service will operate on a pay when you board basis, meaning fans can just turn up and pay the fare on the day (£3 each way).

Are tickets still available?

There are some tickets still available on Ticketmaster here . Options include the Sunday ticket, available for £50.40 or the Sunday VIP ticket, priced at £126.50 each.

This year, there is also the option of a full weekend ticket with access to the New Order gig on Saturday as well as Sunday's Blossoms gig for a discounted weekend ticket priced £89.60. All tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster here .
