Trip of a lifetime with Oryx Photo Tours to Southern Africa

I went with 2 friends to South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia on a 2+ week trip that we scheduled on very short notice just over a month in advance with Oryx Photo Tours. I have travelled a lot, making it to my 7th continent last November where I met Marius, the CEO of Oryx Photo Tours. When I reached out in July about a potential African Safari in August, he and his colleague Vanessa put together an incredible trip for us. This was absolutely the best trip i’ve ever been on. Everything was perfect, the schedule, the transportation, their communication before and during the trip, EVERYTHING. Their suggestions were absolutely incredible and tailored incredibly well to our interests and budget. I even got to see a pride of 15 lions Massacre 11 cape buffalo in under an hour! It was the most incredible moment of raw nature as I have ever seen. Our trip was varied and there was never a dull moment or a feeling of repetition. All of our guides were incredibly knowledgable and I learned so much! I would HIGHLY recommend working with Oryx photo tours and I cannot wait for my next trip with them!

I travelled with Oryx to the Pantanal…

I travelled with Oryx to the Pantanal in Brazil. Dale was an amazing guide. He got me working my camera like a pro in a matter of days. His wildlife guiding is even more spectacular. He is very knowledgeable about wildlife globally. My favorite part about him is that he is a real storyteller in the way explains a nature scene. His sharp wit and talented use of language are immensely entertaining. He comes up with amusing accounts of what he sees in nature. It was a trip filled with lots of laughter in the beautiful Pantanal. Oryx is a top notch travel company. Highly recommend them.

Okavango Delta dream

Dear Vanessa and Oryx team, As you know by now, it takes me a few days to re -adapt to the world outside of the wild! The more I travel, the more I come to appreciate the privilege of having your team planning, guiding and managing my trips. It was perfect..even to the point where the sightings were amazing and yet I will need to return for the iconic images of lions hunting in the water !! I am always at odds with Gods of nature and their sense of humour in granting and denying my wishes!! Thank you all again for an amazing trip! Great Plains, as an organisation, was an incredible experience. The two locations and lodges, Selinda and Duba plains, were very unique places to have been able to access. The lodges and staff were also very high standard and it was great to feel their passion for their work and their land. Flying in over the Delta is like trying to learn a new language in a day. There is so much to absorb, process , comprehend and then convert to an expression. Inevitably the result is simply a dumbstruck awe. On landing , one finds a real excitement to understand everything about it. The guide staff were all very proud and held good knowledge of this treasure they guard. It was often difficult to insist on the narrow focus sometimes required for photographic success, where guides wanted to show off all there was to see… so I will have to return -damn!

Oryx Photo Tours’ clients are the sole…

Oryx Photo Tours’ clients are the sole focus! Even iPhone users like us are welcomed. We are SO glad we chose Oryx for our first trip to Africa, which came at the recommendation of friends who are repeat clients. From our recent experience, we too will be repeat clients when we return to Africa. Oryx stands out to us because Oryx has the unique talent to make their clients feel like THE sole focus. We felt so well taken care of with every detail of our itinerary thoughtfully planned and executed. With a guide meeting us at every airport destination, our travel was totally stress free. Oryx’s Marius Coetzee and the very gracious, Vanessa Van De Meer listened to our needs for our honeymoon, and recommended the most luxurious, elite, highest of the high end accommodations: Ellerman House in Cape Town, (sitting up in the hills of an exclusive neighborhood with breathtaking sunsets over the bay included a serendipitous encounter with the owner one morning, the very eloquent, Paul Harris); La Residence in Franschoek, (stunningly beautiful decor, artwork and NOT stuffy team of fun personalities, we never wanted to leave this jewel of a property); Singita Boulders, Sabi Sand, (felt like the Ritz in the bush, a party everyday on safari and at the lodge with a team of the best people) to Duba Plains, Botswana, (beautiful Okavanga Delta, amazing, breathtaking, classical safari adventure with wild animals all around and a heartwarming team that felt like family). We felt like our guides were hand selected specifically for us because they could not have been a more perfect fit. They were amazing personalities with superior experience, knowledge, and all with a sense of humor, which made us feel so welcomed and relaxed. We had loads of fun, laughter, learning and above all ADVENTURE with the oh so very smart, articulate, and all around good guy who feels like your best friend, Kevin Powers in Cape Town/Franschhoek. Kevin could write a book. He should write a book; The seasoned, captivating ranger of Singita Boulders, Marc “Frenchie” E and his long time colleague, Shangaan tracker, Musa with his remarkable accuracy for finding wildlife like a needle in a haystack have an endearing chemistry between them. The passion for what they do is palpable and SO FUN!; and Sam the Man in Duba Plains, with his calming and engaging way brought us closer to wildlife than we ever could have imagined. It took our breath away). We always felt protected and safe, wherever we were. Above all, it was especially impressive that both Marius and Vanessa checked in on us through our guides during our visit. Thank you for taking such good care of us and for an awesome honeymoon! Until our next adventure, Cheers! Stacey and Gary Lyons

Photo safari satisfaction

Having completed six fantastic private photo safaris with Oryx Photo Tours…can’t say enough about Oryx and our photo leader, Marius Coetzee. Most recently in East Africa, we got every shot we had hoped to capture. It was more than just being at the right locations but the incredible work to dynamically position the vehicle for the best angles, in the moment photo coaching and daily photo editing sessions to help create the best outcome and further develop our skills. As well, Oryx and Marius focus on every detail of the trip and experience and insure we capture every unique opportunity. We have two more trip booked for 2025!

Date of experience : 02 February 2024

Thank you so much for this glowing review and your continued support of ORYX. We consider ourselves blessed to have Marius at the helm and this extends to safari and photography time spent with him. We love what we do and are pleased to read that this felt in the seamless travel experience. Looking forward to the next adventures in 2025! Safari njema!

Outstanding service by ORYX

We had to change our travel plans at short notice due to some security problems in Uganda. The ORYX Team set up a complete new trip to Tanzania within two weeks. And it worked out perfectly. All transportation to and from the local airports and the many flights worked perfectly. The camps were outstanding and left nothing to be desired. The cooperation with ORYX was always uncomplicated and fast. It was our third trip with ORYX and not the last! We can only recommend it.

Date of experience : 17 November 2023

Dear Flavio, Thank you for your great feedback, we are so glad that we could assist with your Tanzania tour and that everything worked out perfectly. We look forward to more ORYX adventures with you. Best regards The ORYX Photo Tours Team

ORYX provides a first rate photo tour…

ORYX provides a first rate photo tour experience. From the planning stages to every detail of the tour itself we experienced the culture and the wildlife and came home with amazing photos. Marius is a joy to travel with and he gets you in the best places and helps you to capture the most stunning images. We traveled to India, taking in Delhi, Taj Mahal, Jaipur and the main attraction- tigers in Ranthambore National Park. Highly recommend ORYX!!

Dear Hope, Thank you so much for your kind words. We love exploring the cultures , wildlife and history of India - we love sharing our passion for photography too. With Marius at the helm you are sure to have a great time. Thanks for taking the time to write about us. The ORYX Photo Tours Team

Oryx Photo is simply the best

Oryx Photo is simply the best! I have travelled to Omo Valley Ethiopia, Lake Turkana Kenya, remote Namibia on private guided tour, Botswana private guided tour as well as India. Trips have been mostly with Marius Coetzee, but recently with Penny Robartes and they never disappoint. Attention to detail and professionalism is absolutely excellent. It’s not always about the photography but the experiences, the people and tons of fun! The easiest way to travel .... they take care of it all - you just need yo pitch up!

Heaven in The Pearl of Africa

Another absolute incredible trip to Africa (this time Uganda) arranged by Oryx, simply outstanding. Unbelievable primate and savannah experiences (Kidepo!), all expertly organised. And to think they had 2 days to arrange it as Kenya hit the red list just makes it even more remarkable!! Thank you so much to Marius, Rainer and the whole team... i cant wait to be travel with Oryx again!

First-rate photo tours with Dale

I've done two tours with Oryx -- one to Madagascar, one to Brazil's Pantanal -- both with Dale Morris, both fabulous. The tours themselves are well-thought-out and offer plenty of in-depth photography time. Dale spends time with each client, giving them the tips -- if needed -- to get a killer shot or just talking technique. He shares creative ideas for lighting and framing and won't move on from a photography opportunity until everyone has gotten what they need. I love the small-group size and can't wait to travel with Oryx, and Dale, again.

Date of experience : 30 October 2020

Dear Jennifer We appreciate your wonderful review of travel with ORYX and Photo Leader Dale Morris. It's great to read that you enjoyed the tours, the photography, and time experiencing each destination. We love planning our tours and ensuring you have great photo opportunities. We cannot wait to plan more trips and travel with you! Best Wishes, The ORYX Photo Tours Team

Do a trip with Dale Morris

My partner and I have traveled twice with Oryx, once to Madagascar and once to Pantanal. We were looking for wildlife photography trips with small groups, excellent guides and quality accommodations. Oryx provided that on both occasions. Dale was our guide on both trips. He's a fun travel companion and creative, helpful teacher. And he takes flippin' awesome photos of critters. We now have a third trip booked with Oryx to Botswana.

Dear Ian, Thank you for penning this wonderful review. Its a pleasure to read you enjoyed your Photo Tours and time with Dale Morris. We take great pride in our destination and tours, and are thrilled when we hear you have had a good time! Thank you for travelling and photographing with ORYX Photo Tours. Stay Safe! The ORYX Photo Tours Team.

The best (only?) way to go

Can there be a better way to enjoy an experience like Africa? Maybe, but I'm not convinced. With Oryx every aspect of our trip was coordinated expertly, what a luxury to have so much handled - really relieves the stresses of travel planning. Marius is the best of the best as a guide - he makes sure everything gets done on travel days and is generally just a great guy to be with during game drives (and the trip as a whole). Africa is filled with amazing beauty and experiences, being under the guidance of people who can not only make travel easy but also help you get the perfect camera shot to capture it all makes the experience all the better.

Dear Alyssa Thank you for the wonderful review and sharing your experience of travel with ORYX. We love what we do and having beautiful Africa as our home and being able to share the experience with travellers is a blessing indeed. We appreciate the support of our business and our team. We are delighted that you had a great time with Marius. Looking forward to planning the next epic adventure! Keep exploring! The ORYX Photo Tours Team

I’ve been fortunate enough to have photographed with Oryx as my host on 4 or 5 separate occasions. There’s a good reason why I keep on going back - these guys n gals know what their doing! Professional, accommodating, adventurous, good fun and simply the best at what they do. If you want an amazing photographic adventure in far flung places then you won’t have better people looking after you than the Oryx team. It goes without saying that they are all a great talent with a camera in hand. As I write I am definitely thinking where and when my next Oryx adventure could be!

Date of experience : 24 October 2020

HI Jeremy Really appreciate this wonderful review. Thank you for acknowledging our efforts. We do love our photographic adventures in far-flung places and we are glad that you enjoy them too! Hope to welcome you on another tour in a COVID safe world. Best Wishes, The ORYX Photo Tours Team

Worth every Penny

This was our third trip with Oryx and we have a fourth one booked. The itineraries have been spot-on and the guide quality superb. The groups are small so there's plenty of opportunity for one-on-one feedback and help. The office staff are thoughtful and detail-oriented. This was our first time traveling with Penny and she was a great tour leader.

Date of experience : 19 October 2021

Dear Ian We love reviews like this, Thank you! Its a pleasure to share our passion and product and we are so happy that you have enjoyed each tour. We do value all feedback, but especially appreciate when our collective efforts are recognised. We love the pun , and appreciate the "penny for your thoughts"! To future travels... The ORYX Photo Tours Team

Excellent photography group holidays

I have travelled with Oryx several times including Madagascar and Japan. Their photography trips are excellent. Dale Morris was one of the best photography guides I have been with. He ensured that all the group had an equal opportunity with subjects and he was one of the few guides that always put the group's before his own photography. He was not only helpful if asked photography questions but was also a good teacher.

Date of experience : 26 October 2020

Dear Pamela Thank you for your valued feedback. The dynamics of group travel always add to the experience, with keen amateur and professional photographers we do always try to find balance. We are so glad to read that you had a successful tour and that Dale was a great leader. We are always there for our guests and we are glad to read that you experienced that. We look forward to welcoming you on another ORYX Photo Tour. Warm Regards, The ORYX Photo Tours Team

Marius Coetzee and his team at Oryx…

Marius Coetzee and his team at Oryx Photo Tours never ceases to amaze. They have guided myself and my family to Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya. Marius and his team strike the perfect balance between unprecedented luxury and epic adventure. At no time will you feel your dream trip is anything less than extraordinary. They open your eyes to worlds seen by few and experiences enjoyed by even less. There has not been a single person I have recommended to Oryx Photo Tours to who has not returned and emphatically stated that their trip was the greatest vacation they have ever been on. When you've traveled with Oryx, you cannot help but sing their praises and hope others will be lucky enough to experience the same.

Date of experience : 18 September 2019

Hi Parker, Thank you for the kind words! We love what we do! Cannot wait to share new countries, experiences and photographic opportunities with you and the family. Thanks for your continued support. Best Wishes The ORYX Team

ORYX & Dale are the best!

I traveled with Oryx (Dale Morris as trip leader) to the Omo Valley of Ethiopia. The trip was exciting, rewarding, educational, and fun! While traveling to this remote and challenging area could be difficult and taxing, Dale, Oryx, and the local team made it all smooth and simple. Having warm showers, clean beds (nice cots!), and hot, fresh-cooked meals in the outskirts of nowhere is quite an accomplishment, yet the made it seem easy. Dale is a great person, with an incredible sense of humor - dry and British most of the time, but warm and caring as well. He's also quite a good photographer, always willing to help, provide some recommendations on technique or composition, or just hold an off-camera flash as a human light stand :) I'd happily travel with him again; in fact have two more trips planned.

Dear Scott Thank you so much for this brilliant review. Ethiopia is a fantastic country with so much to offer the traveler and photographer. We try our best to highlight this, we appreciate that you noticed our efforts. Dale is a great leader and photographer and we are delighted to read that you had a good time with him. We look forward to your future travels! Best Wishes, The ORYX Photo Tours Team

Dale Morris was our Oryx guide on a…

Dale Morris was our Oryx guide on a recent trip to the Pantanal in Brazil. This was either my 5th or 6th trip with Dale and I have 3 more with him in the works. It is hard to imagine there could be a better guide than Dale. He is extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, a miracle worker with his camera and advice, and he can do some great animal impressions. You will be in excellent hands should you decide to travel with Oryx and Dale. I highly recommend him regardless of your level of photographic expertise.

Dear Mike, thank you so very much for your kind feedback. We truly appreciate you travelling with us and are so thrilled you had an amazing time in the Pantanal!

Guided and unguided safaris through Oryx…

I have booked two private safaris and one personal vacation to Rwanda through Oryx Photography Tours. My visits to South Africa and Kenya were expertly guided by Penny Robartes. She is so generous with her time and experience and her individual approach to photography. Everything was well planned for all our trips from the moment we were met at the airport to our final departure. Each experience I have had went well beyond expectations and I would highly recommend Oryx.

Date of experience : 02 November 2020

Hi Pchesonis Thank you for sharing your wonderful review. We are thrilled to have Penny on the team and to read such wonderful feedback. We strive to offer incredible experiences with the highlight being great photo tour leaders and oppurtunities. We cannot wait for future travels! Stay Safe! The ORYX Photo Tours Team

Our Botswana trip to the Belmond camps…

Our Botswana trip to the Belmond camps (Savute and Khwai) went smoothly and without any problems. Our tour leader did a great job helping us with our photographic needs and offered assistance as well. Penny Robartes is very professional, cheerful and a pleasure to have as a tour leader. The camps are very nice. It turns out that this was my third visit to the camps. Khwai camp is getting a little tired, but we were informed that renovations are in the works! The food at Savute was fantastic, but was just "okay" at Khwai. The staff in the camps is delightful. Our drivers/guides were very accommodating. Overall, my experience with Oryx Tours was positve.

Dear Gina Thank you for your feedback and review. We do appreciate all comments, criticisms, and thoughts. This helps us improve on our offerings. All properties are chosen for their proximity to great photographic sites and the local teams' cooperation with us as photographers. This is key in planning our tours. We have noted your concerns about the camps and passed this on to the relevant managers and decision-makers. Without these helpful tips improvement isnt possible. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time with Penny, she is a true asset to our team and a great brand ambassador. We do hope to welcome you on another ORYX Tour soon. Uganda The Ultimate Adventure …

Uganda The Ultimate Adventure In February 2024 three friends and I took a private photography tour to Uganda. The trip was organized by Oryx. The main goal was to see Chimpanzees and Gorillas but there was a great variety other wildlife on the tour. We started the trip off in Mabamba Swamp in search of the elusive Shoebill. This is a prehistoric looking bird that stands 4 ½ feet tall. There are only 10 of them in the swamp but our guide was able to find one for us. Afterward we were off to Kibale Forest to see the Chimpanzees. We did 3 treks seeing and photographing the chimps up close. There were so many it was impossible to say how many were in each family. Two of the treks were just one hour each with a very habituated chimp family. The third trek was with a chimp family that was still being habituated. We spent four hours with them getting a fun insight into chimpanzees daily activities. After 2 days with the chimps we were off to Queen Elizabeth National Park. On the way we did a boat ride on Kazinga Channel. This was fantastic. We saw so many hippos, elephants and a great variety of birds. We spent a couple days in Queen Elizabeth Park. The best part of our time in the park was seeing numerous Elephants. Now we were ready for the highlight of the trip the Gorillas. We traveled to Biwindi Impenetrable Forest. We did 3 Gorilla treks visiting three different Gorilla families. Each family had 9-13 members a silverback often a blackback, females and one or more infants. Each encounter was unique and provided different photography settings. There was a lot of interactions of the family members which so much fun to watch and experience. Even though we were only allowed one hour with each Gorilla family our memories will last forever. The trip was very well designed and organized by Oryx. All of the lodgings were very nice. Beautiful rooms and settings. The food was well prepared and a nice variety. Our Oryx guide on the trip was Dale Morris. I have been on several trips with Dale. Dale is on top of everything, Behind the scenes he is making sure everything runs smoothly. He is a fine photographer and is always there to help if needed. He is constantly coming up with unique ways to take a photo to make it really special. We had a fantastic trip. We all highly recommend a visit to Uganda traveling on an Oryx tour led by a superb guide Dale Morris. We always felt very safe and in good hands on the entire tour. Vic Nemeth MD

Dale Morris and Oryx: outstanding for Madagascar photo tour

Late in 2019, I joined a wildlife-focused photo tour in Madagascar, superbly organized by Oryx Photo Tours and terrifically led by Dale Morris. I had intended to post this review earlier, but the once-in-century challenges of 2020 got in the way. Oryx was well-organized, flexible and responsive throughout my interactions with them, starting with my first inquiries about the trip through the trip itself and on to my immediately following trip to the remote Omo Valley in Ethiopia. (I gather that this combination of photo tours presents the toughest "bifecta" in their catalog in terms of travel challenges, but their arrangements were excellent; I survived and thrived!) Dale is a terrific photo tour leader. He is an excellent photographer and teacher of photography (separate talents that don't always come packaged together in one person). He is highly knowledgeable about the locations and their available wildlife subjects where he leads tours (in this case the highly idiosyncratic world of Madagascar wildlife and often very challenging photographic conditions). Just as important, Dale is fully committed to meeting the needs and aspirations of his photo tour clients, including making sure the tour is fun and enlightening for everyone. Here's one example of his commitment. There was another cycle of our tour scheduled right after ours with another Oryx tour leader. When that tour leader had passport difficulties and could travel to Madagascar, Dale agreed to stay on (and away from his family) for another three weeks to take care of that later group. I would, without hesitation, take another photo tour with Dale Morris and Oryx. Hopefully, we'll emerge from this pandemic and that will be possible again soon!

Dear Mark Thank you for writing about your positive experiences travelling with ORYX! We love adventure, photography and exploring a few roads less travelled. Yes Ethiopia and Madagascar are on that list but we love our journeys there. We cannot wait to emerge from this pandemic with new vigour and new destinations! Thank you for the kind words about our Teammate Dale. We are delighted he is team #ORYX! He truly is fun to travel with and does go the extra mile for ORYX and our guests, so thank you for noticing. We hope that you and your family are healthy and well and cheers to more adventures in the future. Best Wishes, The ORYX Team

Masai Mara/Life of Predator with ORYX

Our Life of Predator Photo Tour was magnificent! My dad and I had a marvelous time. Penny was fantastic--patient, professional, kind, helpful, passionate, and an all around wonderful person! The location, camp hosts (THANK YOU Roshin!!) and staff were amazing - so friendly, & willing to help do whatever they could to make our stay over the top great! (While my dad didn't care for the hot water bottles in bed at night, I thought it was a fabulous extra!!) Our guides and drivers were brilliant with their knowledge of the area the animals and people - everything! in the Masai Mara. They were funny, fun, kind, helpful, and made our game drives and (lovely) meals in the Bush all the more special because of their personalities, attentiveness, and sharing of their vast knowledge! They were also impressive with knowing where and how to get in the best position for the best angle/lighting/view to take pictures of the amazing animals they were so good and spotting and getting us to. They were just as an important part of our experience as the animals and the location. We appreciated the communication of Oryx as we prepared and planned and had a lot of questions pre-tour. And for their help as the Covid travel restrictions and requirements changed (more than once). And while they were helpful in putting together options for the two days we had in Nairobi before the official start of the tour, we felt and discovered the cost was overpriced and ended up booking our own pre-tour accommodations and activities. And it wasn't the admin fees, as we understand that there should be some compensation for the bookings, but the cost of hotel, driver, etc was found much cheaper on our own. --update - While they forgot the hamper promised if we booked before Oct 31st - Nicolette made sure that they shipped it to us later! Thank you! -- And, as Penny said to include in the review, and we understand Oryx has/had no control over, but just as a note, the steak we had (my dad and I shared a large platter) at the Ole Sereni hotel the first night was extremely tough, not at all great and surprising for a 5 star hotel. Also, we had to pay for water at breakfast. (The food that the Alex Walker staff and Roshin planned and prepared though was MARVELOUS!!) Thank you for a fantastic tour, ORYX Team! If we have the opportunity to go on another photography tour in the future, Oryxphoto is at the top of our list!!

Dear April and Hal Thank you so much for your positive review. We really do appreciate all your comments, concerns and input. Any and all feedback helps us improve our offering and service. We are delighted to read that you had a wonderful time in Kenya with Penny. Travelling to the Mara is an unforgettable experience and taking home great photos and memories is what we strive for. Diversity and Dedication

i had ORYX Photo safari booking for two years , both the time Dale Morris was Guiding and teaching us to take best shorts , he is very creative , lots of knowledge of wildlife behaviour and local knowledge , he also teach us in a way that is very interesting and that not only photography but also post editing , he educate us to shoot many different animals , flowers , insects , birds and many creative sun sets and sun rise topography shorts , very few guides put in 16 hrs a day with guests and don't care if we have to dirty our shirts and pants for a short

Living My Dreams With Oryx

I’ve had the privilege of travelling with Oryx several times. The first was to the Omo Valley with Dale Morris. That trip was a leap of faith, signing up for it based on on-line reviews, a ‘good feeling’ - and little else. What an amazing out-of-this-world trip it was. The arrangements were impeccable and Dale was a brilliant lead. There’s been no looking back since then and I’ve been on magical journeys to the Masai Mara, Lake Turkana, Ranthambore/Varanasi and Peru - with Marius Coetzee, Penny Robartes and Dan Søby. It never ceases to amaze me how perfectly organised these trips are, from the travel arrangements, accommodation, the local ground team, the emphasis on safety, and of course the photography ‘tuition’ - I keep learning new things on every single trip. All the Oryx leads are so generous with their knowledge and time, and are absolute gems - a testament to Oryx’s corporate and hiring culture. Oryx takes photography journeys to the next level. I have two more expeditions already planned with Oryx for the coming year and look forward to many more.

I am so happy I found Oryx Photo tours!!

I am so happy I found Oryx Photo tours. Over the years I've traveled with nearly a dozen different photo safari tour companies. Then I found Oryx. I've taken 2 tours with them (Borneo and Namibia) along with a private extension. The small group size is absolutely critical to me. From the moment you book the tour, they take care of every detail. I already have two trips planned for next year, Ethiopia and a private safari. Dale has been my tour leader on both trips. He is incredibly knowledgeable, a wonderful photographer, great teacher and just plain fun to travel with. When I decided I really wanted a photo of the flamingos flying over the dunes in Namibia, he went way out of his way to make it happen. You don't forget those experiences! I plan to do lots more traveling in the next few years and I'll do it with Oryx!!

Dear Diana Thank you for your beautiful review, we appreciate the kind words. We love what we do and appreciate it when photographers recognize our commitment to nature, cultures, the environment and our craft. Small group and private tours ensure we can offer this service. We can not wait for your future travels and to see your images!! Best Wishes, The ORYX Photo Tours Team.

Best of Mara Tour

This is my 7th trip with Oryx and that fact itself should stand as an outstanding testimonial! When booking with Oryx, you don’t have to worry about any of the arrangements or logistics, you can just be rest assured that it will all be well taken care of. This latest ‘Best of Mara’ Tour was no exception. We were extremely lucky in our sightings and witnessed some incredible encounters. One can never be certain with Nature, but we had a special experience every single day! Our guides and drivers were simply outstanding at getting us to where the action was. Penny Robartes, with whom I have travelled many times and someone I consider a friend, is most generous with her skills and knowledge and is the most attentive photography lead you can ask for. She is truly a wonderful travel companion and teacher. Our accommodation for this trip was Alex Walker’s Serian Nkorombo Camp, a camp I had stayed at 5 years ago. Going back after all these years felt like a home coming, such was the warm welcome of the beautiful staff of the camp. We had the most wonderful and comfortable stay there. Thank you Oryx for yet another unforgettable experience!

Our India Photo Safari was our best Oryx Photo trip yet! Every aspect of the trip was well planned and filled with outstanding photographic opportunities. World Class

I’ve been fortunate enough to use ORYX on four separate occasions for trips to various countries. It’s relieving knowing they’re present throughout the entire process because it can become overwhelming quickly when encountering places you’ve never been, people you’ve never met, language barriers etc. They provide a peace of mind and security while also providing world class hospitality. They have carefully and purposefully selected the right staff and photo guides for their company all of which want your adventure to be nothing short of extraordinary.

Dear Cody Thank you for the message. We aim to make your holiday as hassle free and enjoyable as possible throughout, and are most pleased that you have enjoyed travelling with us! Wonderful experience

I was lucky enough to be a part of an Oryx tour to Ethiopia early last year. Kirsten Frost was our fantastic tour leader and the rest of the small group was made up of wonderful like-minded photographers from all over the world. I truly cannot recommend Oryx enough, everything from booking to the last day of the tour was first class. Our group have all stayed in touch regularly throughout the past 18 months and some have even met up again. If I could do this trip again I would in a heartbeat. If you are thinking about booking a trip with Oryx then go for it! You will not regret it!

Dear Amy Thank you so much for sharing your experience and writing this great review. Wonderful to hear that you have stayed in touch all this time. There is something magical and exciting about the world of photography and sharing our craft. We hope to have you join us again! Best Wishes, The ORYX Photo Tours Team.

My first trip to the Pantanal with Oryx…

My first trip to the Pantanal with Oryx and Dale Morris was terrific. Dale and the wonderful local guide Sergio Freitas knew nearly everything I asked about the local wildlife, and if they didn't, they found out. Dale and Sergio went out of their way to find reclusive and camouflaged animals, able to do so through knowing the animals' behavior and the Pantanal itself so thoroughly. The trip was well-planned -- except for the weather, which dropped fifty degrees F one night and brought torrential rain. (We dried out in a few days.) Food was plentiful and delicious, the lodges and the boat hotel were comfortable, and the group of photographers was companionable and pleasant. I was using a new camera and shooting in manual for the first time. Every now and then, as I aimed at a potoo or a coiled anaconda, Dale would whisper, "If you use this ISO and that shutter speed, and stand exactly where I am standing now, Alison, you will get an excellent shot." And lo! he was exactly right: I'd get a sharp photo with open eyes and no stick coming out of the animal's head! I enjoyed the trip to the Pantanal very much, and would urge anyone to travel with Dale Morris.

Date of experience : August 31, 2022

Dear Alison, thank you so very much for your kind feedback. We truly appreciate you travelling with us and are so thrilled you had an amazing time in the Pantanal!

Amazing tour with Oryx Photo Tours

Amazing tour with Oryx Photo Tours. Extremely talented and knowledgeable guide Penny Robartes made this, Mashatu Photo tour, a extremely memorable experience. I spent a week at Mashatu Main Lodge in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve. The small group size, 2 guest to 1 guide, allowed the able to communicate constantly with my guide, Penny Robartes, who not only gave technical advice but the reasons why certain settings were used along with advice on composition, night photography, etc. Penny was knowledgeable, easy to understand and a joy to be around. You can see how much she loves her job. She took the time between game drives to review my photos and give advice on composition and cropping. On the evening of the 4th day, I injured myself at the lodge and the staff there, as well as Penny and the team at Oryx, took care to make sure that I had the best medical care possible. I was able to get sutured and back on a game drive the following day. There were transportation issues before the trip began, which the office staff at Oryx was quick to email options insuring that everything went smoothly. Thank you to the entire Oryx team for this amazing experience. I will be back.

Travelling with Marius Coetzee to the Omo Valley was my first experience with Oryx and it was terrific! Marius not only shared his photographic knowledge, but also his deep respect for the local people. I was inspired by his commitment to artistic creativity, as well as his ethical practices. I highly recommend travelling with Oryx and, I certainly will do so.

Dear Ghislaine Thank you, we appreciate all your support of ORYX Photo Tours. We value your feedback from the Omo Valley Tour, this is a real adventurous expedition travelling back in time to a remote part of Africa to appreciate and photograph local cultures and a more traditional way of life. We do try our best to ensure our tours leave a positive impact on the environment and the local people we encounter. We look forward to many more travels with you. Best Wishes The ORYX Photo Tours Team

NEVER IN MY WILDEST DREAMS

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine a trip to Antarctic like the one booked through Oryx Photo Tours. Leave it to Oryx to find the best ship with the best, most professional crew in Antartica. This was my second visit to Antartica. The first time included the standard tourist itinerary with a different company. This trip was booked, specifically to see the Emperor Penguins on Snow Hill Island. Thanks to the incredible attention to detail by the staff of Oryx, everything on the trip went smoothly. Combine Oryx's selection of the ship, their planning, and great weather, this trip was truly perfect. Separate from seeing a very remote part of Antartica, this trip was an opportunity for me to reflect on my photography skills. I started traveling with Oryx about 4-5 years ago. I selected Oryx with the main goal of improving my photography skills while traveling. I can truly say, that I have come along way thanks to Oryx. From learning how to shoot using settings and not just auto, every time I travel with Oryx Photo Tours is like taking a master class in photography. In addition when the time came for me to change my camera equipment, Marius Coetzee, the owner of Oryx was a great resource and helped me select the equipment that was perfect for me. Looking forward to traveling again with Oryx in 2024 and 2025. Already have the trips booked! I am confident that anyone that books with Oryx will be well served.

Date of experience : November 13, 2023

Dear Laura, Thank you for your kinds words, we are so glad to hear that you had such an incredible trip to Antarctica with Marius. We look forward to more amazing trips with you in the not-so-distant future. Best regards The ORYX Photo Tours Team

The Definition of Safari Excellence

The Oryx photography safari experience is unparalleled. The team offers a truly bespoke approach to safari, working with their clients to plan and build the luxury vacation of their dreams. Their attention to detail is impeccable, everything was always planned out and thought of. Just as importantly though is their adaptability - things don't always go as planned out in the bush and they're ready to spring into action to make your experience seamless. They even will go the extra mile to meet any new need you may have. Want a certain kind of champagne to celebrate and the hotel has run out? Need bowties for a fun party? You happen to be hundreds of miles from the next major city? No problem! The key to the Oryx experience though is the people - the trip leaders' knowledge, experience and personalities make the trips what they are. They make sure your trip is not only perfectly planned, but are there to make the trip fun and easy. They know all the camps, all the guides and most importantly know how to help you get that perfect photograph. That's what you came all this way for after all right? Our Oryx safari was truly one of the most memorable experiences of our lives and it was a joy to share it with Marius and his team.

Dear Jeff We love reading feedback like yours. Thank you so much! Having a passion for what you do really does make the planning, logistics and preparation a little more fun , we are also determined and hard working to ensure all runs smooth. We are delighted to read your kind words, knowing that our efforts are noticed is a great reward. Seeing the photographs and hearing the stories afterward even more so. We look forward to the day that we may all travel safely together again. Thank you, The ORYX Photo Tours Team

South Africa with Oryx Photo Tours

Excellent tour with Penny Robartes to South Africa. Penny provides excellent guidance to help improve photography and the local guides and accommodation were all excellent. Highly recommend Oryx Photo Tours

Date of experience : June 03, 2022

Hi Debra, thank you so very much for travelling with us and we are thrilled that you enjoyed your time on safari with Penny in South Africa.

Simply the Best. Oryx in a league of One.

Third safari arranged by Oryx and with Marius. Went to Botswana with our two adult children and their spouses. Honestly, each time even more extraordinary than before. The team’s hard work planning the adventure and communication before and throughout the trip makes it easy to relax and appreciate the experience without any concern. That is very much appreciated with all the difficulties and uncertainties of long distance travel today, especially when off to Africa. And, the safari itself is turned into a meaningful, educational and fun experience by Marius’ knowledge, photo and guide skills and, even more so by his relentless good nature and real sense of friendship. He cared enormously that we had a great time and an experience we all could treasure forever. I would not even think of a photo safari with any other company and always will hope to coordinate so that we can be led by Marius. If I sound biased I admit I am: Completely prejudiced now by three of the greatest trips and adventures of my life, without any difficulties (the bumps are smoothed by Oryx and team before we even learn of them) and crowned by what I feel is a new and sincere friendship.

I booked a tour in Chile through Oryx…

I booked a tour in Chile through Oryx in April 2022. I paid over $10,000 for the tour. Only upon my personal inquiry did I find out all other guests cancelled due to Covid. I had received an email saying I would be reimbursed some of the money due to the photo expert Dale Morris being unable to go because it was not monetarily possible (it was a photographic tour). That was taken back once they found out I was traveling solo, although I paid the solo supplement (I received no refund). I was the only one on the Chile Pumas of Patagonia tour. My local guide David from Far South Expeditions was beyond wonderful, and I have nothing but great reviews for him. But when I looked on the Far South Expedition tour I found the same tour was offered for almost $5000 less. Oryx has terrible email communication; Nicolette is terrible. They even told me that they weren’t making a profit off sending a solo traveler to Chile, a straight up lie because they charged more than $4000. They had nothing to do with my hotel pre and post travel. I do not recommend Oryx at all. They rip you off. Look to travel with local companies. I travelled twice with Oryx and regret both times.

Date of experience : June 28, 2022

Dear Ms Marin We have taken note of your feedback on trustpilot. It is regrettable, and we feel unfair, that you have posted your feedback here before discussing your grievance with us. Your complaint is that you feel our company overcharged you for your tour, based on a comparison of a tour offered by our local Chilean partner. Quite simply you are not comparing apples with apples. The tour offered by our local partner is a day shorter, uses much cheaper and inconvenience accommodation (that is much further from the park), and the price is based on a minimum of 3 participants. If you had travelled alone as you did on this tour, you would have been charged significantly more for the trip than their quoted rate. During this time of COVID and frequent cancellations and travel disruptions that were happening when you did this tour, we at ORYX photo safaris made a policy of trying to do everything we could not to disappoint our guests who wanted to travel, even if others booked on the same tour did cancel. Your group had 5 bookings but the other 4 participants cancelled. We informed you timeously of this situation and offered to run the tour for you privately with a small group supplement that barely covered our costs. We went to great efforts and even offered you a discount on a future tour with us as we could not further discount this tour without making a loss. However even though you yourself admitted you had a superb tour experience your thanks to us was feedback of this nature. Your other criticism is aimed at our tour consultant. Both the founders and owners of ORYX have reviewed the communication sent by our consultant to you and it is concise, accurate and totally professional. With kindest regards Marius Coetzee and Adam Riley

Back to Mala Mala with Oryx

I returned to Mala Mala with Oryx, and more specifically with Penny Robartes, for a follow up photographic course and it was excellent in every way: great resort, superb food, a wonderful guide, fabulous sightings and insightful, helpful instruction from Penny. Building on what I learnt on the first course I did in October, I was more confident technically and was therefore able to develop compositionally. A valuable experience in every way. HIGHLY recommended.

Hi Derek Thank you for this amazing review- we are delighted you joined us again and thrilled that you had a wonderful time. We have seen your images and are impressed! Well Done. It is great to see that we improved on our first impression and that you would highly recommend us. We do value this feedback. We look forward to having you join us on future safaris. Enriching experiences.

We love travelling to faraway places with our cameras, and the Oryx team has been our most amazing partner. We have made 3 trips with them and are organising another 2. What can I say? They are professional photographers who enthusiastically transmit the pleasure of immersing oneself in a different time and space with a perfect organisation: the best experiences of a lifetime.

Hi Rosana, Thank you for your wonderful review- we appreciate it. We love travelling with like-minded photographers who wish to immerse themselves in the destination and subject. Travel broadens our horizons and photography captures that moment in history. Thank you for exploring this fantastic planet with us, we cannot wait to continue our travels together.

Travelling with Marius Coetzee to the…

Fabulous Predators of the Masai Mara

Our Predators of the Masai Mara trip was well-organized, superbly led and very fun. The result was unique image-making and a week well spent. Thank you Oryx!!

Date of experience : 13 November 2023

Date of experience : 03 June 2022

Date of experience : 28 June 2022

Dale Morris - 'Photo guide extraordinaire'

'My wife and I have travelled with Dale Morris from Oryx since 2012, on several personal and small group photographic safaris in India, Brazil, Borneo, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The fact that we keep going back and seeking out Dale as our guide indicates we think he adds real value to our experience. Apart from being a great photographer, Dale is an easy going, down to earth guide - but with a real passion for improving your photographic skills. Importantly, he is very happy to share his knowledge and is patient! He works extremely hard to provide unique opportunities for some great photography. We have captured some wonderful images with Dale. His attention to detail and real desire to make your trip an enjoyable experience sets him apart. Dale has a genuine passion for wildlife, the natural environment and a love of being in nature, which translates into an infectious, enthusiastic approach to everything he does. Dale really cares for his clients on a personal level and is fun to travel with. After many shared travel experiences over the years we have come to know Dale as a genuine friend. We would highly recommend him to others seeking an unforgettable experience and some brilliant photographic opportunities. Alan and Michelle Hinde Sydney, Australia

Dear Alan and Michelle Thank you for the glowing review, we do like to think that Dale has a high level of dedication and that some of his best assets are his photographic knowledge, understated but infectious sense of humour and personality, which permeate his teaching and guiding style and make him one of our most popular leaders. We are really delighted to hear that you have enjoyed your travels with Dale, and would like to thank you both for your support over the years. All the best, and we hope to see you on an ORYX safari again soon! Kind regards The ORYX Photo Tours team

Iconic "Marius Magic"!

We just returned from another epic safari adventure with Marius Coetzee, founder and CEO of Oryx. We had 9 days at two wonderful properties...MalaMala and Londolozi, and as always Marius went above and beyond to make sure it was the most amazing experience possible. He is always focused on the guests experience and just "makes it all happen"....whether it's arranging a Special birthday breakfast in the bush or outdoor lunch and bubble bath on your deck.....or assisting the guide in positioning and repositioning dynamically the vehicle for the optimal photo opportunities, given the changing light and animal behavior...to advising us on camera settings and helping with our editing to optimize the beauty of our images. Marius does this all with great humor and warmth, filling the trip with endless giggles and fun, in addition to outstanding sightings and photo opportunities. No detail is overlooked and all of your needs are taken care of. No request is too small or too big---he works to satisfy every client request and does it with grace and without any fuss. Traveling with Oryx and Marius is pure joy and adds a dimension to our travels that has led us to coin the phrase "Marius Magic"! This was our fifth trip with Marius and we have seen a big improvement in our photographic results travelling with him. We can't wait for our next October adventure with Oryx and Marius.

Penny Robartes, outstanding photographic guide and charming person

Penny Robartes, outstanding photographic guide and charming person, has opened my eyes to a broader way of seeing the African bush. Through her guiding I began to see the majesty and the mystery, as well as the beauty and harmony of the animals as part of the whole environment. She helped me see not just the photographic beauty of the lion but the wonder of the predator; the lioness and her companionship with her sisters, her times of tolerance and intolerance of her cubs, the way they hide or move boldly into the open. Penny took us to photograph a hyena family with babies and youngsters. Not only did she point out the photo opportunities but gave us time to watch and get a good feel for these often poorly stereotyped creatures. To travel with Penny is to be shown amazing wildlife places and have the time to observe and feel the spirit of the African bush. Back at camp she will share her processing techniques, share time around the fire, and attend to all those daily behind-the-scenes details. As part of the total Oryx Photo Tours experience, you can be sure the destinations are extremely well chosen, the lodges are superb, the trip is super well organized and all details are considered. All my Oryx experiences have been top notch, and I feel I get the very best photographic opportunities.

Dear Nancy, We are thrilled to read such a wonderful review about Penny and your travels with ORYX. Penny is most definitely an asset to our team, not only with her photography but her pleasant and easy going demeanour and her passion and drive! Please do take care Nancy and cannot wait to see you on another ORYX tour soon! Best Wishes The ORYX Photo Tours Team.

Kenya - Life of Predators 2021

Having travelled to Africa multiple times before and having fallen in love with its wildlife and nature, this was my first photo tour with ORYX. The overall experience was clearly beyond my expectations. From my first email contact with Nicolette, I have felt very welcomed by everyone. Every detail of the tour was well planned and perfectly organized. Given all the rapidly changing Covid regulations, the ORYX team made sure everyone of us was able to meet all requirements and even arranged a Covid testing in the bush while we were on game drive. Returning to the Mara with its abundance of wildlife felt marvelous. Our base for the following six days was Alex Walker’s Serian The Original, a serene and beautiful "classic" bush camp in the best sense of the word with a prime location right by the Mara river, superb food and exceptional staff, who made me feel at home from the first moment. I loved my spacious and comfortable tent by the river and enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the hippos around every night. Penny, our photo tour leader and photographer, is a real gem. She is an excellent photographer, a brilliant teacher and an inspiring travel companion, always generous in sharing her knowledge, skills and vision. Penny made every effort to ensure everyone was feeling comfortable all the time and assisted whenever necessary. You could feel every moment, that her aim is providing her guests the best possible experience. I owe her a lot of inspiration for my personal photographic development. I’m already looking forward to my next tour!

Kenyan Family Safari

We contacted Oryx to arrange a special Kenyan holiday to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday. We wanted to incorporate my husbands love of wildlife photography and a family friendly safari for our daughters (aged 10, 7 and 4) first trip to Africa. They expertly put together an itinerary of a week at Diani beach followed by a night at Giraffe Manor then culminating in a 4 night safari at Sala’s Camp in the Masai Mara. From the moment of first contact the Oryx team were incredible. Vanessa answered our millions of questions quickly and comprehensively. We emailed her about everything from Covid requirements to local currency and she always replied pretty much immediately and with a knowledge that demonstrated her experience within the travel industry. Once we landed in Kenya it became even more obvious of the work that went on behind the scenes in the Oryx office. Each transfer was greeted by representatives on the ground and we could really relax into the holiday safe in the knowledge that everything had been taken care of. Marius guided us for our safari and proved once again he truly is the best in the business. Nothing was too much trouble and he not only provided extraordinary photo opportunities and guidance but his endless enthusiasm and energy meant the girls were constantly amazed and entertained by all the Masai Mara had to offer. We have returned home with our hearts full of the most amazing memories and plans to book our next adventure with Oryx as soon as possible!!

Dear Rachael and Family, Thank you so much for your glowing review. We are most pleased that the family had a wonderful time. We love what we do and are so pleased to see that it shows! Kenya is such a family-friendly safari destination we are thankful that you allowed us to plan this adventure for you. We cannot wait for the next milestone birthday, and we are already thinking of incredible destinations and adventures to be had. Thank you for your words of praise to individual members of the team- we are a team and nothing is possible without the other, so we do appreciate the recognition. Looking forward to the next Photo tour. Stay Safe! The ORYX Photo Tours Team

Madagascar 2024

Madagascar 2024 To say that Dale Morris is tour guide extraordinaire would be an understatement. The seventeen days spent with him in Madagascar has left the entire group in an awe filled bubble. The tour itself was planned to near perfection, the admin going on behind the scenes is truly impressive as the sheer number of strings that had to be pulled to weave the holiday is unimaginable. There were no hiccups, no glitches throughout the many flights, pick up cars and travel days. Dale handled all these intertwining pieces with a mastery that goes beyond describing, often fluttering around in the background, smoothing feathers and ironing our wrinkles with his tour partner, Nono, while still giving the group his full attention and not alerting us to the colossal effort that must have been going into our proverbial smooth sailing. The planning and organisation that went into the trip aside, the time spent learning from Dale is priceless, with the new tips, new tricks and now perspectives I can honestly say that the entire group finished the trip with skills and knowledge we didn’t even know we needed but which we will most certainly utilise. Dale’s ability to pick out the necessary lessons for each specific individual, give them his undivided attention and still ensure that the rest of the group gains something from every location is superb. He taught us with patience and intent, leaving us feeling successful and accomplished after each session. The photographic spots that Dale has worked out over 21 trips should also be mentioned and applauded, as this could have been no mean fete. They were obviously chosen with care and thought for experiences along with their photographic potential. These experiences and sites that Dale chose with care over the past decade has ensured that the entire group of six has returned to reality with life altering memories and experiences that words struggle to encapsulate. Dale’s passion for natural conservation and the natural world always shone through and was a pleasure to watch and be a part of. His knowledge about the natural world and the animals it houses was inspiring and gave context to the moments we had, enriching the experience even further, which is difficult to imagine. We could not recommend Dale as a guide and photographer more, you will not regret going on any trip with him and we look forward to learning more from him on future trips as his ability to translate his innate creativity onto a learning plane should be utilised and appreciated by one and all.

Mashatu, Botswana photo trip

The photo trip organised by Oryx to Mashatu, Botswana, included a scheduled tour with Mike Dexter and a private extension. Mike is an excellent wildlife photographer with significant experience in wildlife behaviour. He always pointed out photo composition opportunities and camera settings at every sighting, which made it so easy to get great photos. He shared his photographs back at the camp, and how he touched them in Lightroom; these opened me to possibilities to consider on the next drive or hide session. The hide sessions were exceptional with huge herds of elephants, the giraffes, elands, impalas, warthogs, squirrels and several birds. Mike, having originally built the Mashatu, again pointed out compositions as they unfolded. It was an exceptional photo trip with several great images to show. It was a trip that was originally booked pre-covid, but organised very well and with great communication through-out, thanks to Nicolette. It was a trip I wish never ended because of Mike and Nicolette's fantastic support to making this so good in terms of overall experience and the great photos they helped me get.

Wonderful experience

From the pre-departure correspondence to the luxurious lodge, food, and quality guide, this tour was fantastic. I was a non-photographer accompanying my husband and really enjoyed the game drives and excellent knowledge Mike shared with us throughout the adventure. The small group of 4 participants was perfect.

Photographing the Ethiopian Wolf with Dale Morris and OryxHaving returned from my third private…

Having returned from my third private Oryx tour led by Dale Morris, where my passion and goal of photographing the world’s rarest predators was once again fulfilled, I’ve had some time to reflect on the whole experience. This time the target was the Ethiopian Wolf, an amazing and highly endangered canid – the world’s rarest, living at 13500 feet in the remote Ethiopian Bale National Park. To achieve this, Oryx and Dale assembled an impressive team including Gitnet, out local guide and Dale’s right-hand man in Ethiopia; Balai, our driver and knowledgeable birder; and the chief tracker of 26 years for the EWCP (Ethiopian Wolf Conservation Project) whose name sadly eludes me. Quite a dream team! The EWCP has single-handedly seen the Ethiopian Wolf’s population grow from 300 to 500 individuals. Always looking for generous donors – hint, hint. Observing and photographing these amazing wolves as they went about the day hunting for rodents was truly magical. Side trips to photograph the equally endangered endemic Bale Monkey, as well as the infuriatingly-timid Giant Mole Rat, proved just as rewarding. Getting that rat's photo (I have other names for him) did take some patience. Similar to my trips in South Africa and Madagascar, I always present Dale with the unenviable task of getting me on the animals in the impossible finite time window I have to give Oryx. He always comes through, and in places like Ethiopia - no easy place for predictable travel. Covid and Civil War made us some of the first western travelers to return to Ethiopia, and we were treated first class, whether in Addis, on the internal flights, or at the Bale Mountain Lodge. Safe food, competent drivers, comfortable vehicles and lodging all came together for a perfect experience. As I have noted before, I have been on over 30 photo expeditions all over the world, yet I always know I will learn new techniques from Dale, and he sure did not disappoint on this trip. This was the first time in the field with my R5, and Dale was able to help me with the new tech (to me), while maintaining a sense of humor and professionalism. And at 13500 feet, I have to admit I appreciated his help securing and transporting my gear whenever necessary. Dale Morris and Oryx make a fine team and I strongly recommend them to anyone with my similar passion for travelling the world to photograph its amazing wildlife. OK Dale, where to next? I had a fantastic trip in Madikwe

I had a fantastic trip in Madikwe. Our group was great with awesome camaraderie , similar interests in wildlife photography and outlook in life. It seems Oryx Photo tours is attracting really great people signing up for their tours :) The Bush House was just a perfect place to stay in Madikwe. The owners were so hospitable and warm in welcoming us and made our stay even better. The service from the staff was impeccable as well and really much appreciated. And of course the food they served were so good and healthy and you know it was prepared with heart and warmth. Kudos to the chef. I might have gained an extra pound or two :) The grounds of the property was just perfect for the holiday with well kept landscaping , flowery gardens and trees attracting a lot of birds as well. Just sitting there and basking on the the surroundings was just zen. The watering hole and the hide attracting herds of elephants, zebras , wildebeest, buffalos, warthogs was just a wonderful and exciting experience. Mike Dexter was an excellent host and photo tour leader. He was there with us all the time in making our wildlife photo tour experience in Madikwe as fantastic and productive it can be. He has an eye in creating a remarkable photo when presented with an opportunity to a wildlife encounter, be it in low light, harsh light or beautifully well lit encounter. He actively directed and taught us how to approach and photograph the animal to create a story and a memorable photo as well. He made sure that we are all well positioned to get the best photo opportunity . I have created photos that I haven't had before and I am happy that i got them. As much as Mike is an impressive wildlife photographer /photo tour leader with vast knowledge of his field, he is also a great and kind person, very personable , level headed and humble man. It was a pleasure and privilege to be in this tour with him.

Hi Jeffrey, thank you so very much for travelling with us and we are so thrilled that you enjoyed your time in Madikwe, as well as with Mike and the rest of the group. We look forward to welcoming you on future photo tours!

Review of 2022 Pantanal tour

I very much enjoyed my time on the 2022 Pantanal tour as I had when I was on the one in 2017. Both times Dale Morris was our the guide and photo expert. As always, Dale was a gem, and he was clearly happy and enthusiastic to be leading a tour after many months of COVID lockdown. I must add that the tour was made particularly enjoyable and educational with the participation of Sergio Freitas, PhD who served a most excellent and affable Brazilian language/logistics facilitator and fauna biology expert. This year (2022) was much drier than 2017 with vastly less water along the Pantanal highway. Therefor, there were considerably (thousands?) less waterbirds (herons, egrets, terns, skimmers, etc ) as well as caimans near the road. Even so we had plenty of wildlife photo opportunities. All the lodge accommodations were very good, and the Brazilian food was plentiful. Our first lodge was particularly comfortable and provided twice per day drives in open safari-like vehicles that provided wonderful transits of the varied environment of the lodge's vast property. On the first day at this lodge - to everyone's surprise, we came upon a jaguar resting next to the dirt track. This was the first of more than a dozen (17?) different jaguars seen on the tour. All but the first of jaguars were seen and photographed on the Rio Sao Lorenco river and several of its tributaries during the last five days of the tour. Our time on the Jacare - our boat hotel - was very pleasant in spite of the extremely atypical weather. Instead of 100F and bright sun on the river, we experienced several days of 50F with driving rain! It was certainly a macho/macha test to have rain pelting our bodies as we hunkered down in our open 4 meter uncovered boat as it sped at more than 30 mph along the river to get to our next jaguar photography opportunity. All in all, the outboard boats we rode in were very comfortable, stable and astonishingly fast. Our boat driver was highly skilled both on our sprints and in holding steady while maximizing our photographic opportunities. To sum up, my friend Alison and I very much enjoyed the 2022 Pantanal tour. It was well planned and conducted with successful innovations adapted to the weather. The other participants were very friendly, courtious, and interesting to talk to. I have not counted up the number of separate species that I photographed and videoed, but there were a lot. I did get lots of good shots and video clips of my favorites - giant otters, a loping giant anteater, jaguars, and even two pairs of long-legged seriemas in a loud, pre-dawn territorial battle.

Dear Jon, thank you so very much for your kind feedback. We truly appreciate you travelling with us and are so thrilled you had an amazing time in the Pantanal!

An inspiring escape into the wild

Although my husband and I are keen underwater photographers, we have for some time watched and been been inspired by Penny Robartes’ amazing wildlife photography and were thus excited to join her on a recent Oryx Photo Tour to Mala Mala game reserve. We were blown away by amazing sightings and great photo opportunities, which were so ably guided by this creative and experienced tour leader. Penny showed an intuitive understanding of each guest’s needs and was happy to share her passion through clear, professional input related to both technical and creative aspects of land based photography...while simultaneously ensuring her three guests enjoyed relaxed "time out" from a weird 2020! Thanks to Penny and our great ranger, Daniel Bailey, we were encouraged to explore flora and fauna, big and small, and felt we not only gained from a photographic perspective but in our knowledge of the wild. Clearly, the Mala Mala team and Oryx work in comfortable synergy, as they all went out of their way to make it a fabulous experience. Finally, although I am generally inclined to organise all my own travel, I was pleasantly surprised by the ease and accommodating manner in which everything was handled by the Oryx team and would like to extend thanks not only to Penny for ensuring a wonderful photo tour but also to Nicolette and Rainer for their “behind the scenes” organisation. Highly recommended!

We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed all aspects from the planning to the execution. Most importantly we are happy to read you enjoyed the photography aspect of the tour. I'd be happy to provide a review of the…

I'd be happy to provide a review of the Black Leopard Safari and tour leader, Charlotte. Firstly, the Black Leopard Safari was an absolutely fantastic experience. From start to finish, the tour was incredibly well-organized, and the itinerary was packed with amazing wildlife sightings and stunning landscapes. One of the highlights of the tour was the knowledgeable and passionate tour leader, Charlotte. Charlotte was an exceptional guide and photographer with an amazing knowledge of photography. Her enthusiasm and dedication to her work were contagious, and she was always eager to answer any questions we had and share her insights and stories about the wildlife we encountered. Charlotte also had a deep respect for the local communities and cultures, and her interactions with them were always thoughtful and respectful. She had a talent for connecting with the people we met, which made our interactions with them all the more meaningful. In terms of the logistics, everything was well-planned and executed seamlessly. The accommodations were comfortable and located in beautiful settings, the meals were delicious and varied, and the transportation was reliable and comfortable. Overall, I highly recommend the Black Leopard Safari and would encourage anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure in the wilds of Africa to consider joining one of their tours. And if you're lucky enough to have Charlotte as your tour leader, you're in for a real treat!

Oryx and Dale Morris made my Madagascar trip a fantastic reality!

It was while on my first private Oryx tour with Dale Morris in Londolozi, South Africa, that the idea of a Madagascar photo trip germinated. It took three years, but I finally got to experience another trip of a lifetime with Dale in that magical place, photographing all my targeted species in the impossibly finite time window I had given Oryx. Where to start? I cannot thank Nicolette and Vanessa at Oryx enough for their patience in putting together this amazing tour. For those who are unaware, Madagascar is no easy place to plan predictable travel! The fact that all the moving parts - interior flights, hotels, safe food, competent drivers, comfortable vehicles, local guides, boat trips, park access, etc. - came together for a perfect experience is a testament to their expertise and competence. Once I told Dale what I wanted to do, the Oryx team got it done. A special shout-out to Nonotinamalala – “Nono” – Dale’s right-hand man in Madagascar, who used his wizardry with Air Madagascar and countless other contacts to ensure smooth sailing – or hiking – or flying – or driving. It was fascinating to watch them work so well together to get the job done. Once I landed in Tana, Dale made sure I was comfortable and ready for the journey ahead. From our time in Kruger, I knew I would be in good hands. He is an amazingly talented photographer, but just as important, is able to expertly share this knowledge of wildlife and photography with his guests while in the field, guaranteeing the best photos possible. While I have been on over 30 photo expeditions all over the world, I always know I will learn new techniques from Dale, and he sure did not disappoint on this trip. Handling the challenges of Madagascar, attending to the desires and needs of his clients, and ultimately delivering the goods while maintaining a sense of humor and professionalism is no small feat! My passion for wildlife photography tends to be species driven – the ultimate headache for tour leaders, as we all know that in nature, nothing is promised. I have to say that, with a little luck and a lot of Dale’s expertise, I was able to come away with stunning images of EVERY ONE of the critters on my Madagascar bucket list. OK, Dale, where to next? Kenya Life of Predators 2021, PHENOMENAL!

This recent photo tour to Kenya's Maasai Mara with Oryx is my third Oryx tour, and as usual, exceeded all expectations. Apart from non-cooperative leopards, the sightings were all excellent; the accommodation at Alex Walker's Serian (The Original lodge) extremely comfortable (delicious food prepared by Rosian Allan); and the lodge guides, drivers and staff very accomplished and attentive. Penny is a VERY personable, friendly, knowledgeable and competent tour leader and instructor. She has a gentle and engaging nature which wins everyone over and makes them comfortable within their photographic skill-set, while also encouraging them to strive for greater mastery of their cameras and their artistic expression. She guides and instructs with positive reinforcement and is very generous with her time. I greatly benefited from her knowledge, appreciated her patient guidance and encouragement, and feel that I learned a lot. I can highly recommend Oryx Photo Tours for their seamless organization, and Penny for her highly professional instruction and leadership, and I look forward to my next tour!
