HINGLAJ, Pakistan (AP) — The ascent of steep mud volcanoes marks the start of Hindu pilgrims’ religious rituals in southwestern Pakistan.

They climb hundreds of stairs or clamber over rocks to reach the summit, tossing coconuts and rose petals into the shallow crater while seeking divine permission to visit Hinglaj Mata, an ancient cave temple that is the focus of their three-day worship.

The dramatic surroundings of Hingol National Park in Baluchistan province are the setting for Pakistan’s largest Hindu festival, Hinglaj Yatra, which started on Friday and ends on Sunday. Organizers say more than 100,000 Hindus are expected to participate.

Muslim-majority Pakistan is home to 4.4 million Hindus, just 2.14% of the population, and Hinglaj Mata is one of the few Hindu sites that continues to draw large numbers of pilgrims every year from across the country.

Muslims and Hindus generally live peacefully in Pakistan, from where most of the Hindus migrated to India when it was divided by British colonialists in 1947. But there have been attacks on Hindu temples in recent years as relations between the rivals remain tense.

Hindus believe Hinglaj Mata is one the places where the remains of Sati, the goddess of marital felicity and longevity, fell to earth after she ended her life.

“It is the most sacred pilgrimage in the Hindu religion,” said Gopal. “Whoever visits the temple and worships accordingly during these three days will have all of their sins forgiven.”

The journeys begin hundreds of kilometres (miles) away, mostly from neighbouring Sindh province . Hundreds of packed buses set off from cities like Hyderabad and Karachi, traveling along the Makran Coastal Highway that hugs Pakistan’s south and southwest.

But there’s scant parking and vehicular access to the holy sites, so many pilgrims disembark and complete their travel by walking over parched and rocky terrain, sometimes barefoot and carrying children or luggage.

It’s a few kilometres (miles) from the main road to the mud volcano and then, from there, almost 45 kilometres (25 miles) to Hinglaj Mata.

Winds buffet the desert-like conditions, churning up dust that whips the eyes, nose and mouth. The pilgrims’ festive cheer and brightly coloured apparel are a contrast to the arid landscape. Strong gusts distort people’s celebratory cries of “Jai mata di” and “Jai shiv shankar.”

Kanwal Kumar, 28, was visiting the temple for the first time with her husband. “We have yet to conceive a child after six years of marriage, so we are hopeful for help from the goddess,” she said. “We believe that no one returns empty-handed. All wishes are granted by Hinglaj Mata.”

The Hindu festival brings the Pakistani park to life. Hundreds of stalls spring up to sell snacks, drinks, jewellery, and clothing. Vats of hot food are prepared in the open air or thatched huts. Pilgrims purchase coconuts, sweetmeats, flowers, and incense for their ritualistic offerings.

Aloo Kumar, 55, wanted to express her gratitude to Lord Shiva, one of Hinduism’s three most important deities. “He blessed our family with a grandson,” Kumar said, gesturing toward the boy beside her cradling his baby sibling. “We prayed for a grandson during last year’s festival.”

Hinglaj Mata thrums with activity, even after dark. Fairy lights and other decorations adorn the shrine and pilgrims jostle for position in front of it, sometimes holding up babies so the deities can bless them. Stewards urge them to pay their respects and move along.

The park’s Hingol River provides Hindu pilgrims with the opportunity for ritual bathing, like the Ganges in India.

While there is no ban on Hindu worship in Pakistan, openly practising the faith is not routine as ties between India and Pakistan are broken. Their interactions are riddled with animosity and suspicion after having fought three wars, built up their armies and armed them with nuclear weapons.

Travel restrictions and hostile bureaucracies largely keep people from crossing the border for leisure, study and work, although the countries sometimes make exceptions for religious pilgrimages, usually for India’s Sikhs .

The decades of political hostility present a challenge for the minority Hindu community, as many in Pakistan equate Hindus with India. The reverse exists in India, where Muslims complain of discrimination.

Versimal Divani, the general-secretary of Hinglaj Mata, lamented that only Hindus in Pakistan can attend the festival.

“We can visit this temple in our beloved country whenever our heart desires,” said Divani. “But this is not the case for the rest of the world’s Hindus. I would like the Pakistani government to issue them visas so they can come here and take blessings with them. It’s good for people-to-people contact and it’s good for the economy too.”

Minister of State for Tourism, Mr. Wasi Shah met with the family of the deceased porter in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, who had tragically lost his life while working. During the meeting, in addition to Hasan's family, officials from the Skardu administration and Assistant Commissioner Shigar, Hamza, were also present. The Minister expressed deep sorrow over Hasan's death and assured that his sacrifice would not be in vain. Aftab ur Rehman Rana, Managing Director PTDC held a meeting with Mr. Zhang Heqing, Cultural Counsellor, Embassy of The People’s Republic of China in Islamabad to discuss the promotion of bilateral tourism between Pakistan and China. Discussion was held on improving facilitation for the tourists on both sides to enhance people to people contact. Mr. Heqing informed that year 2023 will be celebrated as the year of China-Pakistan Year of Tourism Exchange. In this regard a Gandhara Art Exhibition is already planned at Palace Museum in Beijing to showcase Pakistan’s rich potential of diverse culture and long history. Mr. Rana said, that two brotherly counties need to further enhance cooperation in tourism sector to increase the flow of tourists from both sides which will be greatly helpful in improving the people to people contact between to two counters. He especially emphasized on the need to promote group tours through the registered and licensed tourism operators of both the countries to provide convenient way to enjoy touristic sites through guided tours. He also highlighted the need of Chinese language tour guides in Pakistan for which help is required from Chinese side to arrange special training courses. Rohtas Paintings and Heritage Crafts Exhibition Marks Intl Tourism Day on Sept 27 Celebrating World Tourism Day 2022, an exhibition of paintings and Heritage Crafts from Rohtas Fort – a UNESCO World Heritage Site at PNCA Islamabad was inaugurated today at PNCA. Tourism is a focused area of the present government. Several initiatives are being undertaken to garner the potential offered by the tourism industry. To develop and enhance coordination with provinces, federal ministries, and private actors, facilitate in the development of policies, strategies, framework, etc, to market and promote tourism potentials nationally and internationally; and capacity building for the provision of quality human resource, the Government has constituted the National Tourism Coordination Board (NTCB). NTCB is mandated to:

Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) was incorporated on March 30, 1970, under the repealed Companies Act 1913 (now the Companies Ordinance, 1984) as a Public Corporation Limited by shares.

PTDC is owned by the Government of Pakistan (99.75% share). The Principal objective of the corporation is to promote and develop tourism in Pakistan.

From the mighty stretches of the Karakorams in the North to the vast alluvial delta of the Indus River in the South, Pakistan remains a land of high adventure and nature. Panchkroshi Yatra History: उज्जैन में 3 में से पंचकोशी यात्रा की शुरुआत हो चुकी है। हर साल वैशाख के महीने में धर्म नगरी उज्जैन में इस यात्रा का आयोजन किया जाता है। उज्जैन के अलावा वाराणसी में भी पंचकोशी यात्रा का आयोजन होता है जो माघ के महीने में की जाती है। हालांकि यात्रा अन्य महीना में भी की जा सकती है। इन दोनों ही जगह पर बड़ी संख्या में श्रद्धालु पंचकोशी यात्रा में शामिल होने के लिए पहुंचते हैं। चलिए आज हम आपको इस यात्रा की जानकारी देते हैं।

क्या ये पंचकोशी यात्रा

सनातन धर्म में शिव संप्रदाय के लोगों को भगवान शिव की पूजा करते हुए देखा जाता है। वही वैष्णव संप्रदाय के लोग भगवान विष्णु की पूजन अर्चन करते हैं। महाशिवरात्रि के शुभ अवसर पर भगवान शिव के नियमित शहर संप्रदाय के लोगों को पंचकोशी यात्रा करते हुए देखा जाता है। यह वाराणसी और उज्जैन दोनों जगह पर की जाती है हालांकि दोनों की तिथि में अंतर होता है। उज्जैन में यह वैशाख महीने में होती है और वाराणसी में माघ महीने में आयोजन किया जाता है। इस यात्रा के दौरान पिंगलेश्वर, कायावरोहनेश्वर, विलेश्वर, दुर्धरेश्वर और नीलकंठेश्वर महादेव के दर्शन किए जाते हैं। इस यात्रा से मिलने वाले पढ़ने से सड़क को अक्षय फल की प्राप्ति होती है।

उज्जैन में कब होता है आयोजन

उज्जैन में पंचकोशी वैशाख के महीने में की जाती है। इसके अलावा देवउठनी एकादशी की तिथि से लेकर कार्तिक पूर्णिमा तक भी पंचकोशी यात्रा की जाती है। इस समय यह यात्रा करना शुभ माना गया है। वहीं सिंहस्थ के दौरान इस यात्रा का विशेष महत्व माना गया है।

उज्जैन में यात्रा स्थल

उज्जैन में पंचकोशी यात्रा की शुरुआत नागचंद्रेश्वर महादेव मंदिर से होती है। इसके बाद श्रद्धालु पांच पड़ाव पर मौजूद शिव मंदिरों के दर्शन करते हुए पुनः नागचंद्रेश्वर महादेव पहुंचते हैं। यात्रा के समापन पर शिप्रा नदी में स्नान किया जाता है।

वाराणसी की पंचकोशी

वाराणसी में गंगा आरती का विशेष महत्व है। यहां पर 84 घाट है जिसमें से मणिकर्णिका घाट का विशेष महत्व माना जाता है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि यदि मृत्यु के उपरांत यहां पर व्यक्ति का अंतिम संस्कार होता है तो उसे मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। यहीं से पंचकोशी यात्रा शुरू होती है।

यात्रा के स्थल

श्रद्धालु मणिकर्णिका घाट से यात्रा की शुरुआत करते हैं। इस स्थान से श्रद्धालु कर्दमेश्वर की यात्रा करते हैं। कर्दमेश्वर पहुंचने के बाद अल्पकाल के लिए विश्राम करते हैं। इसके बाद कर्दमेश्वर से भीम चंडी पहुंचते हैं। कर्दमेश्वर से भीम चंडी की दूरी लगभग 14 किलोमीटर है। पंचक्रोशी यात्रा का यह दूसरा पड़ाव है। श्रद्धालु का जत्था भीम चंडी रामेश्वर जाते हैं। इस दौरान तकरीबन 7 कोस की दूरी की जाती है। वहीं, रामेश्वर से शिवपुर और शिवपुर से कपिलधारा की यात्रा की जाती है। कपिलधारा से यात्रा का अंतिम पड़ाव शुरू होता है। इसमें कपिलधारा से पुनः मणिकर्णिका घाट की यात्रा की जाती है। मणिकर्णिका घाट पर पहुंचने के बाद पंचक्रोशी यात्रा का समापन होता है।

यात्रा की कथा

पंचकोशी यात्रा की शुरुआत त्रेता युग से हुई है। शास्त्रों में निहित है कि त्रेता युग में मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम भगवान श्रीराम ने पिता दशरथ जी को श्राप से मुक्ति दिलाने हेतु पंचक्रोशी यात्रा की थी। धार्मिक मत है कि दशरथ जी के बाणों से श्रवण कुमार घायल हो गए थे। अनजाने में किए गए वार से श्रवण कुमार की मृत्यु हो गई थी। उस समय श्रवण कुमार के माता-पिता ने दशरथ जी को पुत्र वियोग में तड़प-तड़प कर मरने का श्राप दिया था। कालांतर में राम जी के वनवास के दौरान दशरथ जी की मृत्यु हुई थी। इस श्राप से मुक्ति दिलाने हेतु राम जी ने पंचक्रोशी यात्रा की थी। पंचक्रोशी यात्रा करने से साधक को मनोवांछित फल की प्राप्ति होती है।

Pakistan has urged the international community to hold India accountable for espionage in foreign countries that is in violation international law.

The call was made by Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch while responding to questions at her weekly news briefing in Islamabad today. 

The Spokesperson said India's expanding spies’ network is a matter of concern for international community.

She said Pakistan has already presented concrete evidence of involvement of Indian agents in terror attacks inside Pakistan.

These are illegal acts in violation of international law and against the basic precepts of justice and due process.

Replying another question, the Spokesperson said Pakistan urges India to ensure peace along the Line of Control and desist from taking any action that may contribute to difficulties.                                              

To a question regarding Pak-Iran bilateral ties, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said Pakistan will continue to strengthen cooperation with Iran and the two countries have mechanisms to discuss counter-terrorism and security matters to ensure peace along Pak-Iran border.

On Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Spokesperson said Indian brutalities could never quell the Kashmiri people's struggle and passion for freedom and India's illegal ceasing of their properties is also destined to meet similar failure.                                      

About the Gaza situation, the Spokesperson reiterated Pakistan's support to the Palestinian people and urged the United Nations Security Council to impose immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. 

She said Israeli actions are in breach of international law and undermine prospects for a two-state solution to the conflict.               

She said Pakistan is deeply concerned over Israel's bellicose statements regarding Rafah and that any assault on Rafah would be unacceptable.
