Your guide will lead you through the bustling Place du Tertre, where modern-day artists set up their easels, capturing the essence of Parisian life.

The journey culminates at the breathtaking Sacré-Cœur Basilica, an architectural marvel offering serene respite and stunning panoramic views of the city below. Where To Stay in Paris

If you’re wondering where to stay in Paris , we have many guides to help you choose the best hotels for you and your family.

Namely, we have guides about luxury hotels , boutique hotels , 5-star hotels , and incredible hotels with a view of the Iron Lady .

As always, be sure to book your accommodation in advance because this has a major impact on availability and rates, especially in Paris.

When To Visit Paris

Planning a trip is no simple ordeal, and an essential consideration includes deciding when to go. The seasons affect the weather and determine other factors such as crowds, the locals’ daily routines, and prices.

Paris is generally most popular among tourists from June through August during the Parisian summer .

Locals and tourists consider the city to be most beautiful in its summer months since the sunlight creates a warm and bright mood throughout the city, uplifting its already picturesque views to even more beautiful sceneries.

However, one should remember that the summer season is busier than other times.

So, if bustling crowds and waves of other tourists are what you are looking for, then the summer sun is for you; however, if you prefer to visit Paris during quieter months, you would probably like to avoid going in the summer.

Our advice, especially if you’ve only got three days to explore this wonderfully vibrant city, is to visit Paris during one of its shoulder seasons or an off-season.

If anything, this is so that you don’t waste half your time waiting in long queues to enter some of the more popular spots. If you find yourself in Paris during its busy season, don’t worry because we have many quieter places for you to see too!

Louvre Museum during summer in Paris

Although not as popular as the summer season, autumn could be a better time for you to spend your 3 days in Paris.

The city takes on an entirely different color in autumn, with the parks, palaces, and arrondissements imbued with the stunning red and gold of the autumn leaves. This season compliments the city well, and if you don’t believe it, you have to see for yourself!

What’s more, the city is exceptionally quieter during the Autumn season. There are shorter waiting times at the most famous landmarks, and many of them are also much cheaper during the off-season.

It’s also a chance to experience Paris more authentically (without hordes of tourists photobombing each of your dear memories). Autumn in Paris is from September to November .

Fall foliage in Tuileries Gardens

Since the rain seems to be relatively constant during the Parisian winter ( December to February ), this may not be the best option to spend only 3 days in Paris.

However, if you prefer indoor activities, you can still keep yourself busy visiting innumerable cathedrals, art galleries, art museums, and cafés. Just be aware that you will also be missing out on various activities that require good weather.

On the other hand, an important consideration is that the festive Christmas displays an excellent opportunity to see the City of Lights differently.

Strasbourg, an Alsatian town on the eastern border of France, is famous for having one of the most fabulous Christmas markets in the world. Because of this, many Alsatian-styled markets pop up around the city during this time.

The ferris wheel and the Eiffel Tower in Paris during sunrise

Visiting The City of Light in bloom could be the perfect time for lovers of nature, gardens, and parks . The city’s flora turns colors during this season, and it complements the surrounding landmarks.

Since spring is from March to May in the town, you could have the chance to celebrate Easter while visiting some of the fabulous churches, chapels, and chocolatiers (Angelina on Rue de Rivoli – yum!) found in Paris.

It is also a great time to try the fresh local produce at this city’s various farmers’ markets. Furthermore, on the third Saturday of May, almost all great art galleries stay open until late at night – an absolute delight for any aesthete or art connoisseur.

For lovers of music and jazz, spring may also be the preferred option since the city hosts the annual Jazz Festival à Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Hopefully, this will guide you in deciding when to visit Paris. However, this still begs what to do in this beautiful city while you are there. Lucky for you, we have already compiled a 3-day itinerary just for you – voilà !

Cherry blossoms around the Eiffel Tower in Paris in the Spring

Paris Itinerary – Day 1

Day one of our itinerary will set off in Montmartre – one of the world’s most renowned cultural hot spots – and eventually take you through the city’s most famous attractions.

For this day, you will be eating on the go while absorbing all the beautiful sights and attractions this city offers. Alors, on y va.

  • Start Your Day With A Bite At Boulangerie Alexine

Situated in the 18th arrondissement on 40 rue Lepic, you will find this quaint and charming bakery – the perfect place to kick off your 3 days in Paris.

Rated one of the best bakeries in Paris and with the 4th best baguette, this little shop in the Montmartre district is one you wouldn’t want to miss! Even better yet, it’s right around the corner from the Sacré-Cœur.

Try out some of their delicious baked goods for breakfast and start your day the French way (unless you’re a real Parisian who prefers just a coffee and cigarette).

Our recommendation would be a pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant), but if you are into something more savory, you can’t go wrong with a quiche or a baguette.

  • Discover The Sacré-Cœur Basilica

Sacre Coeur Basilica in Montmartre

At the top of Montmartre hill, you will find the Sacré-Cœur or the “big meringue” among locals. This dazzling 19th-century church is one of the most iconic spots in all of the city. And, it is one of the best things to do in Paris .

It boasts stunning architecture and rich history in tandem with the title of the second tallest spot in all of Paris. Therefore, you will not only enjoy the building itself but also see sweeping views of the entire city.

Climb to the towers so you can have grand views of the Eiffel Tower , the Louvre Museum, and the rest of Paris.

  • Stroll Through The Streets Of Montmartre

Le Maison Rose Cafe in Montmartre, Paris

Known as one of the world’s cultural centers, the village-like neighborhood of Montmartre has some of the most exciting streets in Paris.

Stumble across little gems or look for one of the many sculptures and statues that form part of the area. You will likely find a museum on every second street, so why not have a look.

We recommend looking out for the Wall of Love and the Montmartre Cemetery.

  • Have A Crêpe At La Crêperie Mon Amie

After a long walk through the neighborhood’s magical streets, you can find yourself right back where the day started to enjoy another French classic: the crêpe!

At this tiny hole in the wall (literally), you will find some of the best crêpes around to keep you going for the rest of the walk.

Unfortunately, there is no sit-down option, but you can enjoy the crêpe on a nearby bench or go to a café instead if you need a rest.

  • Go On A Shopping Spree At The Galeries Lafayette

Unfortunately, the time has come to leave Montmartre and head to the 9th arrondissement but fret not, for when the sun falls, you will return to see Montmartre in a different light.

In the meantime, you can keep yourself busy at France’s most famous department store.

One of the many activities seemingly synonymous with French culture is shopping. The Galeries Lafayette Haussmann takes this to the next level with exquisite architecture, high fashion events, food and drinks tasting, etc.

If you’re an avid shopper, we recommend you don’t check your balance after this expedition.

  • Stare At The Ceiling Of The Palais Garnier

An interior view of Opera de Paris, Palais Garnier

As breathtaking as this magnificent building may seem from the outside, one is only really blown away upon entry.

Just a block from the Galeries Lafayette, the Palais Garnier truly is a must-see. The ceiling is a beautiful tribute to some of opera’s greatest composers, and the palace also has a museum.

Sit Down For A Dinner at Chez Delphine

A restaurant with all the classics French cuisine has to offer. From snails and beef tartare to foie gras and other meaty options.

For vegetarians, there are also a variety of options with rave reviews.

Sit down here, relax, and enjoy the day’s memories passed with a nice glass of wine, excellent service, and a calm French ambiance.

  • Watch A Cabaret At The Moulin Rouge

By this time, you must already be quite tired from traversing the hills and stairs of Montmartre and walking all through the shops at the Galeries Lafayette.

But after all, with only 3 days in Paris one has to move to get everywhere you need to be!

This part of the trip will take you back to Montmartre to dine at the legendary Moulin Rouge .

Named after the red windmill giving the venue its iconic look, the Moulin Rouge is a cabaret venue widely popularized by modern films. It is an iconic spot, and ending your first day with a cabaret show (and drinks) there will be worth your time.

Paris Itinerary – Day 2

Day two of your 3 days in Paris will take you to all the places you’ve dreamed of visiting since you’ve heard of this magical city, like the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, and Sainte-Chapelle.

If you think you were all over the place on day one, get ready for even more walking. Remember to pack your most comfortable shoes because the Champs-Elysées aren’t going to walk themselves.

  • Grab Breakfast At Le Pain Quotidien

Located on the beautiful Champs-Elysées, Le Pain Quotidien (meaning the daily bread) offers the best breakfast to prepare you for another busy day.

With a wide range of options and a styling interior, Le Pain Quotidien is one of Paris’s most successful franchises.

Marvel At The Arc De Triomphe

Arc de triomphe during fall

Just down the Champs-Elysées lies the massive monument of military power: the Arc de Triomphe.

Built by Napoléon, in his honor, the symbol of sheer strength is enough to send shivers down your spine. The Arc de Triomphe is not only a popular attraction but also a major landmark in Paris .

In addition, you can have wonderful views of the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysées, Place de la Concorde (where Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette were executed), and beyond from the top of the arch. The fee to climb it is included in the Paris Pass .

Also, note the crazy driving in the roundabout around the Arc de Triomphe is!

Don’t miss out! A wine tasting experience is included in the Paris Pass!

  • Stroll Down The Champs-Elysées

View on Avenue des Champs Elysees from Arc de Triomphe in Paris

After taking in the Arc de Triomphe is time to explore the Champs-Elysées. This famous street is like no other.

The Champs-Elysées is about as well-known as Zinedine Zidane and is certainly more beautiful. Enjoy your walk down this iconic road, and don’t forget to do enough window-shopping along the way.

End the walk at the spectacular Elysée Palace, see the Hôtel de la Marine, and stroll through the Tuileries Garden.

Climb The Eiffel Tower

Eiffel Tower during sunset

Finally, it is time to see the Eiffel Tower. Enjoy a long walk along the Seine River on your way, and don’t overlook the many bridges – each one of them has its charm!

Gustave Eiffel had no idea how famous his last name would become when he designed and built the most recognizable tower in the world. Over 6 MILLION people ascend this structure every year to see Paris from another angle.

Inspired by the design of the Latting Observatory in New York City , the Eiffel Tower in Champ de Mars was built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.

That’s why there is no better way to start your Paris itinerary than on Eiffel Tower. The 1063-foot-tall tower has three levels that you can reach by stairs and elevator , except the last one. We will explain:

The first level has a glass floor, and you can ascend to it by either a staircase or elevator. On the second floor, you can find a pricey 5-star Michelin restaurant (also reached either by stairs or elevator).

To achieve the summit, you must take the elevator. While on the top floor, you will have one of the most breathtaking views over Paris. Try to spot the Louvre, Tuileries Garden, and the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.

Fun fact: The Eiffel Tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world.

  • Staircase to the 2nd floor plus the elevator to reach the third-floor costs around €20
  • Lift to the summit costs €27 – if you can, choose the earliest time slot to avoid the crowds at the Eiffel Tower

Don’t miss out! Book your skip-the-line tickets plus a guided tour.

It’s important to note that you can stop at intermediate floors, regardless of the ticket you buy.

  • Lift: 9.30 am-10.45 pm | Stairs: 9.30 am-10.45 pm.

After you have ascended the tower, stroll around the Champ de Mars and Trocadero Gardens to take some good pictures of the tower. The view of the Eiffel Tower from across the river is astonishing. The walk to Rue Cler is also very pretty.

Many will agree that it may be worth it to return to the Eiffel Tower at night since the skyline of Paris at night changes entirely (not to mention the tower itself). However, going to and fro the Eiffel Tower does take a big chunk of your time, so in the end, you should decide.

Good to know: access to the Eiffel Tower summit is included in the Paris Pass .

  • Wander Through The Rue Mouffetard Market

Mouffetard Street offers one of the most popular markets in all of Paris. Here you can shop for various cheeses, bread, fruits, and spreads.

We advise you to put together a little basket and head to the Luxembourg Gardens for a lovely afternoon picnic. The banks along the Seine make for an equally delightful picnic spot.

On your way to Rue Mouffetard, you will likely pass many other landmarks, such as the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Montparnasse tower .

Feel free to explore these, but also remember that there is limited time if you want to see the more exciting places.

  • Explore The Latin Quarter

This part of Paris, the 5th arrondissement, has indeed cultivated an academic atmosphere to it.

The character is partly thanks to the Sorbonne University located at its heart, but more than just that, it is the people, the architecture, and the surroundings.

Visiting the Pantheon is a must, and if you’re willing to climb to the dome, it rewards you with a 360-degree panorama of Paris. The Sorbonne University, founded in 1253, is equally iconic and will leave your mind hungry for knowledge.

  • Visit The Sainte-Chapelle

Interior of Sainte Chapelle with purple stained glass windows

Providing magnificent stained glass displays, the Sainte-Chapelle is sure to take your breath away. There is no chance you can miss this absolute wonder of a church.

Furthermore, it is situated next to Notre Dame, which is unfortunately still temporarily closed for restoration, but worth looking at from the outside! The fee to enter the church is included in the Paris Pass .

  • Dine At La Péniche Marcounet

Likely, you won’t have the time to explore the Louvre or the Museum of Orsay before closing time (unless a special event is happening). Therefore, we advise you to leave these attractions for another day when you’ll have time to appreciate the art.

In the meantime, if you’re hungry, why not have dinner at a bit restaurant boat (or péniche ) along the Seine.

Many tourists miss out on something like this, but it is a very authentic and delicious experience. La Péniche Marcounet is famous for its fantastic food, jazz shows, and great location across the Sainte-Chapelle.

  • End The Day At Le Perchoir Rooftop Bar

With a fantastic city skyline to complement your drinks, you cannot go wrong with Le Perchoir, a wonderful rooftop bar .

The view will blow you away, and the ambiance is immaculate. Open until 02h00; you can fully kick back and relax until you are ready to head home.

On your way home, don’t forget to stop for a bowl of French onion soup – a staple after a late night out.

Paris Itinerary – Day 3

Today is the day for art – and lots of it. You will take the metro out of Paris city center and head out to the Palace of Versailles. Here’s how to get from Paris to Versailles . Luckily, Versailles is a lovely town near Paris .

Afterward, you will head back to the end of the Champs-Elysées, exploring two more major art museums (and perhaps more if you’re still interested). Afterward, you can explore some less traversed and hidden parts of the city.

  • Head To The Stray Bean For Coffee

A coffee shop with an excellent reputation in Versailles, this place would suit your needs after the short morning train ride to Versailles. It is close to the palace, and they serve excellent food. What more could you ask?

  • Tour Through The Palace Of Versailles

The Versailles Palace in a freezing winter day just before spring

There are many words available to describe the Palace of Versailles. Words to describe it ranges from magical, mystifying, and beautiful to impressive, grand, and artistic.

However, one of the best words would be immense because this palace can easily take an entire day to explore fully.

Take your time to explore it as much as you like – we can almost guarantee you will not regret it.

Many generations constructed parts of the palace over different decades and eras, but much has changed since the Revolution.

It has a rich history, and we recommend reading up a bit on it since it would undoubtedly make the experience more enjoyable. The entrance fee to Versailles is included in the Paris Pass .

  • Lunch At Le Sept On Montreuil

Described as a family-priced restaurant with Michelin quality food and ambiance, you can’t go wrong with lunch at Le Sept .

The perfect way to round off your Versailles trip before returning to the city center. You will likely see many more local French here than other tourists, making it a very authentic experience.

  • Appreciate Art At The Louvre and Orsay

People staring at Monalisa painting in the Louvre Museum, Paris

History buffs will have the time of their life at the Louvre Museum and D’Orsay!

We recommend these Paris museums to both art appreciators and casual tourists alike. Both the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay are locations where you can spend days without seeing everything there is to experience. However, we recommend that you go anyway – and remember to dress the part!

Louvre Museum has the enigmatic Leonardo DaVinci’s Mona Lisa, but other highlights worth checking out are the Winged Victory and Venus de Milo.

Most visitors come to see the famous Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is now in a prominent and permanent location in the Denon Wing.

On the other hand, Musée d’Orsay, which is housed in an old train station, shelters the largest collection of Impressionist art in the world.

Good to know: The entrance fee to both art museums is included in the Paris Pass .

  • Walk Around The Hidden Passages

Paris is home to many secret passages and galleries , which are beautiful indoor streets housing all sorts of luxury boutiques and little restaurants.

The Galerie Vivienne is right around the corner from the Louvre Museum, making it the perfect option to explore these covered French passages.

  • Descend Into The Parisian Catacombs

Skulls and bones in Paris Catacombs

If art museums and shopping districts aren’t your things, or if you’re a fan of the dark and gothic, then the Catacombs of Paris could be a better alternative for an adventure.

These morbidly fascinating catacombs of the capital are sure to evoke some emotions. Be it fear, grief, or mere interest, you’re sure to remember what you saw.

  • Cruise Along The Seine

Seine River cruise in front of Eiffel Tower

Perhaps you’re too tired for any of the other options mentioned for this day. 3 days in Paris can take its toll on your body. In this case, why not have a relaxing cruise along the Seine River ?

It’s sure to have you well rested for the remainder of the night, and it could provide some stunning views at any time of day.

Don’t miss out! The Paris Pass gives you access to a 1-hour Seine Cruise !

  • Quench Your Thirst At Le Galibot

Both a bar and restaurant, Le Galibot presents a thoroughly French experience.

With food inspired by Northern French cuisine and a classic bar aesthetic, Le Galibot is the perfect spot for you to finish your last day and hang out with the locals.

  • Sip A Final Drink At Jacques’ Bar

Located at the top of the Hoxton Hotel is a classy yet cozy little cocktail bar.

With an extensive and creative drinks menu, you can reminisce about your last day in Paris with a lovely drink and intimate company. If Jacques’ Bar isn’t quite your vibe, then visit any of the other pleasant cocktail parlors nearby.

Final Thoughts

This guide outlines what 3 days in Paris could look like. It’s quite the ordeal to work out a 3-day itinerary for Paris, and it takes a lot of personal consideration regarding your own needs and interests.

Knowing this, use this to supplement your knowledge about yourself and the city already, and we’re sure that you’ll have the most incredible time in the city of lights. Profitez bien!

Don’t Forget About Travel Insurance!

Before you leave for France, make sure you have a valid travel insurance policy because accidents happen on the road. We have been paying for Safety Wing travel insurance for a little over a year now, and we happily recommend them to our family and friends.

If you get sick, injured, or have your stuff stolen, you'll be happy to have the ability to pay for your medical bills or replace what was stolen.

Because, for just a couple of dollars a day (depending on how long your policy is for), you're going to get lots of things covered. Be smart and get travel insurance .

How to see Paris in 3 days

Gina Dellios

Paris feels like a huge city, but it's surprisingly small (almost the size of Houston, Texas) and with a little planning, it’s definitely possible to hit most of the must-sees in three days. We’ve got the perfect itinerary to get you started.

To give you a good feel for the city, we’ve packed each day with famous sights and lesser-known attractions. And because no trip to Paris would be complete without (lots of) food, we’ve highlighted some of the best spots to grab a bite. We’ve also included top-rated recs from the Tripadvisor community, so you can trust that each stop is worth your time.

La Sarbonne, a university with six pillars and a domed roof

MORNING: Time travel to old Paris

Start your day in the Latin Quarter , where the cobbled alleyways, narrow streets, and historic architecture will make you feel like you traveled back in time. This neighborhood, located on the Left Bank of the Seine River, is home to one of the oldest universities in the world, La Sorbonne (the original scholars spoke Latin!).

Grab breakfast at award-winning bakery La Maison d’Isabelle —they make their croissants with organic French butter and flour, and it’s one of the few places where you can still get pastries at a reasonable price. Then, walk around the Latin Quarter, soaking up the scene in one of Paris’ oldest and most atmospheric arrondissements.

LATIN QUARTER TOUR OPTIONS:

  • Learn from a local guide about the Latin Quarter’s hidden gems and historic landmarks on this 2.5-hour small-group walking tour , which also covers neighboring Île de la Cité.
  • To see a more local side of the Latin Quarter, opt for this four-hour bike tour , which skips the major monuments in favor of quiet courtyards, ancient Roman ruins, street art, and cozy bookstores. Bonus: a snack break away from the crowds is included.
  • If you’re craving a more personal experience, book this two-hour private Latin Quarter walking tour . A local guide will take you to the landmarks, like the Luxembourg Gardens and the Panthéon, as well as lesser-known sights like the College of Bernardins and the Arenas of Lutetia.

AFTERNOON: Stop and smell the roses

Make your way to Saint-Germain-des-Prés , with a stop at Jardin du Luxembourg to wander 60 lush acres inspired by the Boboli Gardens in Florence.

Saint-Germain-des-Prés attracts intellectuals, celebrities, and travelers from all over the world, and is a great area for lunch. Stop at popular oyster bar Huîtrerie Régis , or Michelin-starred Semilla for elevated French fare. If you want a taste of old Paris, try Les Deux Magots or Café de Flore , where famous writers and artists like Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso used to hang out in the early 20th century.

Spend the rest of the afternoon shopping on Boulevard Saint-Germain, or checking out iconic sights like St. Sulpice Church , the Musée Delacroix , and the Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe . Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés is also worth a visit—it’s the oldest abbey in Paris, dating back to the 6th century.

EVENING: Sparkles in the sky

The Eiffel Tower is a must-do and can be visited any time of day, but it’s extra special to see at night. Starting at dusk until 11 p.m., it lights up on the hour and sparkles for five full minutes. For an epic view—plus dinner and live music—hop on a Seine River cruise with Bateaux Mouches. You’ll enjoy four delicious courses and wonderful entertainment while taking in the city lights from the water.

Worthy detours along the way

paris 3 day tour package

MORNING: A garden tea (or hot chocolate) party

Wake up with treats from Boulangerie Eric Kayser , which specializes in croissants, pain au chocolat, and rustic bread. After breakfast, head to Jardin des Tuileries —dreamed up by Catherine de' Medici in 1564 and opened to the public after the French Revolution, it’s a prime example of intricate Parisian landscaping. If you’re short on time, download a self-guided audio tour , which will take you straight to the highlights while teaching you the history of the gardens.

In the southwest corner of Jardin des Tuileries is the Musée de l'Orangerie , built by Napoleon III in 1852 to store citrus trees during the winter and now home to several Impressionist masterpieces. There’s also the Jeu de Paume photography museum in the northwestern corner of the gardens and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the northeastern tip. Hungry after all that museum-ing? Refuel at Angelina , a tea room that’s famous for its hot chocolate and pastries.

AFTERNOON: An island in Paris

Head to Île de la Cité , home to the famous Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris . It’s one of two tiny islands—the other being Île Saint-Louis—in the middle of the Seine and features everything from parks and boutiques to cafes full of history. Browse the beautiful Marché aux Fleurs ; marvel at the exquisite stained-glass windows in Sainte-Chapelle , a royal chapel built by Louis IX in the mid-13th century; visit La Conciergerie , the palace where Marie-Antoinette was held before her execution; and shop on Rue Saint-Louis en l’Île .

For lunch, enjoy traditional French fare like entrecôte (rib-eye steak) and escargots at Comme Chai Toi , which has next-level views of Notre-Dame.

EVENING: Explore Le Marais

In the early evening, explore the trendy Le Marais district, with its charming streets full of hip cafes, boutiques, and bookstores. It’s also home to major attractions like Place des Vosges , Paris’ oldest public square; Maison de Victor Hugo , the former home turned museum of 19th-century author Victor Hugo; Église Saint-Paul Saint-Louis , the first church in Paris to be built in the Baroque style of the Jesuits; and Village Saint-Paul , a 13th-century building complex that now houses art galleries, antique shops, and several restaurants and bars.

For dinner, take a food tour of Le Marais, or visit Paris’ oldest food market, Marché des Enfants-Rouge , to sample food from all over the world, including the Mediterranean, North Africa, and East Asia. For something more straightforward, watch the sunset over cocktails and snacks at Le Perchoir Marais (the rooftop bar at the BHV Marais department store, open late spring through early fall), then go to Chez Omar for authentic Moroccan food like lamb and couscous at good prices.

LE MARAIS FOOD TOUR OPTIONS:

  • Come hungry for this three-hour small-group food tour of Le Marais, which includes stops for favorite Parisian foods like fine cheese, oysters, falafel, and crêpes, plus a sit-down dinner of boeuf bourguignon and crème brûlée at a traditional brasserie.
  • On this four-hour Le Marais walking food tour , you’ll pop into the neighborhood’s best markets, bakeries, and brasseries to discover the local culinary scene.
  • This 3.5-hour Le Marias tasting tour includes 10 stops at fine foods and specialty stops to meet local artisans and vendors and sample everything from wine and cheese to macarons.

MORNING: See the sunrise from Montmartre

Mornings in Paris are calm and quiet. Take advantage of this peaceful time to catch the sunrise from the highest point in Paris: Montmartre . Take the funicular from the Place Saint-Pierre or walk up from the Square Louise Michel to the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre , which has the largest mosaic in France, and watch the sun come up over the city.

Nearby, Boulangerie Les Deux Frères serves buttery viennoiseries (pastries) with pistachio, chocolate, and other fillings, as well as tasty crêpes. Boulangerie Raphaëlle is another popular spot for its reasonably priced croissants and baguettes.

AFTERNOON: Stroll the Champs-Élysées

Next up: L’Arc de Triomphe . The impressive landmark, modeled after the great arches of antiquity, was commissioned by Napoleon I in 1806 to honor the victories of his Grande Armée. Go up to the terrace for amazing views of the city; just be sure to book a skip-the-line ticket ahead of time (it includes quick entry, plus a scenic boat cruise on the Seine).

From L’Arc, take a walk down the Champs-Élysées . The mile-long shopping strip stretches all the way to Place de la Concorde , Paris’ largest square, and is lined with boutiques from both French luxury and affordable brands.

For lunch, drop by Le Fouquet’s , a chic brasserie with sophisticated French fare. A 10-minute walk away, Hotel Raphaël has a killer terrace for cocktails and snacks.

EVENING: City lights and the Louvre

For a magical experience, visit the Louvre Museum at night, when it’s less busy and the famous pyramid is illuminated. It stays open until 9:45 p.m. on Friday nights. Afterward, walk ten minutes north to La Bourse et La Vie for dinner. The bistro serves refined French fare like steak frites and foie gras. Make reservations ahead of time (the space is tiny) and don’t miss the giant gougères (cheese puffs).

LOUVRE AT NIGHT TOUR OPTIONS:

  • Get into the Louvre after it’s closed for the evening on this private night tour , which covers highlights like the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo as well as the little-known stories behind some of the museum’s most famous works.
  • On this two-hour guided Louvre tour at closing time , you’ll enjoy skip-the-line entry and the chance to see famed works without the daytime crowds.
  • This three-hour private Louvre tour by night includes priority admission and a knowledgeable guide, who will point out works by Italian artists like Raphael, da Vinci, and Caravaggio as well as French sculptures lit up in the museum courtyards.

Know before you go

There’s never a bad time to visit Paris, though the weather can be rainy and cold in the spring. Late summer and early fall bring the warmest temps, plus a range of cultural activities, from new museum exhibits to lively festivals. For a festive experience, go in December or January, when Christmas markets and twinkling lights take over the city.

Wednesday through Friday is the best time of week to be in Paris, as many restaurants are closed on Mondays and several key sites are closed on Tuesdays.

Restaurants in Paris are typically open from 12 to 2 p.m. for lunch, then again from 7 p.m. until late (though most Parisians don’t eat dinner until 8 p.m. or later). Bars and cafes open early, around 7 or 8 a.m., and stay open until at least 2 a.m. Shop hours are generally from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

For affordable and well-located hotels, stay near the Eiffel Tower. Great options include Hôtel 33 Marbeuf and Hôtel de l'Avre . The trendy district of Le Marais offers stylish lodging like Hôtel du Petit Moulin , Hotel Bastille Speria , Hotel Jules & Jim , and Little Palace Hotel . Staying near the Louvre in the 1st arrondissement is also a fool-proof option, with plenty of places to suit different budgets. Check out Hotel du Louvre , Relais du Louvre , Le Pradey , Hôtel Cambon , Hotel Louvre Saint Honore , and Timhotel le Louvre .

Walking is the best way to see Paris, but to save time (and energy), the metro , hop-on-hop-off buses , e-scooters , and e-bikes are also great ways to tour the city.

Ah, Paris, the city of life, love, and light. From the Eiffel Tower to the Mona Lisa, from the bustling Champs Elysées to the winding streets of Montmartre, you'll find magic, romance, and history as you sip a café au lait, stroll manicured parks, and watch the sun set over the Seine. The home to some 2 million people, Paris could take you multiple lifetimes to explore from top to bottom—and that's not counting the Louvre. Happily, the métro system is extremely efficient and will aid you in see-and-flee sight-seeing. But to truly savor Paris's heady parfum, opt for the bus, or even better, your feet. In no time at all, you'll be strolling like a true Parisian from the arty Rive Gauche (Left Bank) to the regal Rive Droite (Right Bank).

The major tourist season in France stretches from Easter to mid-September, but Paris has much to offer in every season. If you're dreaming of Paris in the springtime, May is your best bet, not rainy March and April—regardless of what some songs say about the latter. Paris in the early spring can be disappointingly damp, though it's relatively tourist-free; May and June are delightful, with good weather and plenty of cultural and other attractions. July and August can be sultry, stuffy, and uncomfortable. Early autumn is ideal. Cultural life revives after the summer break, and sunny weather often continues through the first half of October. The ballet and theater are in full swing in November. The weather is part wet and cold, part bright and sunny.

Top Experiences

Eiffel Tower : Built in 1889 for the World’s Fair, this iron structure is one of the most visited monuments in the world. There is a bird’s eye view of Paris from the top and there are two restaurants in the lower structure.

Cruise the Seine : Many monuments of the city can be seen from a leisurely cruise along the river. At night is especially beautiful as the monuments are lighted and gives a very different perspective.

Louvre Museum : An historic landmark, one of the most visited museums in the world, home to Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo, over 300,000 objects are housed inside from all corners of the globe.

Café Society : The ultimate expression of French culture, sit in a sidewalk café and sip on a coffee while watching the world bustle past. Perhaps enjoy some pastries or macarons also.

Musee D’Orsay : Housed in a former train station, the space is light filled from skylights. Not as large as the Louvre, houses an impressive collection of Impressionist works.

Arc de Triomphe with Champs Elysees : The arc is one of the most famous monuments of the city and lies at the center of the convergence of twelve avenues. It is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from WWI, with an eternal flame. The Champs Elysees is an avenue that stretches just over a mile. It is known for luxury shopping and hosts the finish of the Tour de France bicycle race.

Psst. If you’re planning to visit Paris, then we’ve created a gorgeous 100+ page eBook full of beautiful photos and insider tips by a local. Included you’ll find hidden gems, arrondissement guides, walking tours, suggested itineraries, and more. Find more information here.

Introducing this Paris itinerary

Is 3 days enough time to visit paris, visit the eiffel tower for sunrise, spend the morning checking out the louvre, spend the afternoon exploring île de la cité, spend the late afternoon/ evening wandering around le marais, enjoy the sunset by going up the arc de triomphe, go on a seine dinner cruise, spend the morning exploring saint-germain-des-prés, enjoy a light bite (or refreshments) at café de flore, spend early afternoon ascending the panthéon, spend the afternoon taking a day trip to versailles, spend the morning wandering around montmartre , explore the hidden villages of paris, for lunch: pick up a pastry (or two), spend the afternoon visiting the grand department stores & pigalle, eat traditional french food, budget accommodation in paris, mid-range accommodation in paris, luxury accommodation in paris, watch my paris itinerary video, paris guidebook, french phrasebook, books about paris, walking tours of paris, paris museum pass, comfortable shoes, a travel adaptor, what to wear when exploring europe, enjoyed reading the perfect itinerary on how to spend 3 days in paris pin it now, read it again later:.

If it’s your first time in Paris, then you’re in for a treat. Paris is one of my favourite cities in the world and I have spent a large part of my twenties living and working in the city. I even married a local so it’s pretty safe to say that Paris has my heart!

Included within this Parisian itinerary, you’ll find three completely different Paris itineraries for each day, meaning that even if you have more or less time in the City of Light, then you can follow each day individually and at your own pace to really get to know the city on a local level .

When it comes to food in Paris, there’s no shortage of culinary experiences to be had and there’s a restaurant or café on almost every street corner.

Unfortunately, this can make it a little bit tricky as to which places to go to, because of course not all eateries in Paris are made equal. Check out our foodie guide to Paris for some of our top recommended places to eat in Paris!

Day one of this 3 days in Paris itinerary is all about classic Paris , day two is more of a chic guide , and day three is about getting to know the city on a more local level .

Your ultimate guide and itinerary for three days in Paris. How to spend the perfect 3 days/ 73 hours in the French capital, Paris, France. Where to stay, what to eat, what you must visit and the best places to see!

Yes. As someone who has lived in Paris for several years and who knows the city inside out, I would say that three days is more than enough time to see all of the highlights as well as discover a more off the beaten side of the French capital. The perfect amount of time to visit Paris is 3-5 days.

If you’re staying in Paris for longer or less than 3 days, I’ve written a guide on how to spend one perfect day in Paris , how to spend two days in Paris , and how to spend five incredible days in Paris .

Day One in Paris: The Classic Paris Itinerary

For your first day in the City of Love, you’ll want to tick off as much of your French bucket list as possible. As such, the first 24 hours are all about seeing those iconic places which you’ve no doubt seen on countless postcards prior to your city visit. So indulge your inner tourist and rest well the night before- you’ve got a lot of ground to cover!

Eiffel Tower wasn't designed by Gustave Eiffel, Paris, France

What could possibly be more Parisian than catching a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower?! Start your day off the right way by partaking in an iconic photo walk along the Seine. Begin your stroll at Trocadero (metro line 9) and you’ll be greeted with a stunning water mirror shot of the Eiffel Tower.

From there, head east towards Notre-Dame and Île de la Cité. Along the way to the Louvre, note that one of the best places to snap photos of the Eiffel Tower is Passerelle Debilly, a small passenger footbridge that was first opened for the World’s fair in 1900.

Ever since then, The Eiffel accommodated millions of pedestrians, all eager to get a better view over the Eiffel Tower and Seine river. If you’re not an early riser, then the light from this bridge is also perfect around sunset and is pretty lovely during the day as well!

Unlike many other Paris itineraries, I don’t personally recommend ascending the Eiffel Tower! This is for a myriad of reasons, not least because you’ll want plenty of precious exploration time by queueing to go up. Instead, waiting in the line for the Arc de Triomphe is much more rewarding and provides better views over the city.

paris 3 day tour package

After walking along the Seine for about 40 minutes, passing iconic sites such as the Alexandre iii bridge and the Tuileries Garden, you’ll reach the world-famous Louvre Museum with that  iconic glass pyramid.

When you think of the Louvre, your first thoughts are probably of elbowing your way through selfie sticks to catch a glimpse of the Mona Lisa. However, the Louvre museum offers so much more than a maybe smiling muse.

Home to medieval ruins and plenty of priceless artefacts from around the world, the Louvre also happens to be the largest museum in the world. For those looking to make their most of their time, you may well want to purchase a skip-the-line timed entrance ticket to the Louvre .

Highlights of the Louvre that aren’t the Mona Lisa include the Winged Victory of Samothrace and the rather sumptuous Napoleon III Apartments.

If you want to skip the Louvre and fancy seeing a smaller, offbeat museum instead, then I highly recommend seeing the Musée Jacquemart André or exploring the Musée National Gustave Moreau. For more practical information, check out my guide to things to know before visiting the Louvre

Best Museums in Paris you should know about: top 10 culture hubs in the city of lights, France

After visiting the Louvre, head on further down the river toward Île de la Cité and Île Saint Louis.  As one of the first places in Paris to be inhabited, Île de la Cité is as rich in history as the flavour of its world-famous Berthillon ice cream.

If you’re looking to explore more of this fantastic district of Paris, then my free and self-guided walking tour provides you with a complete Parisian itinerary for the area. First things first, forget Italian gelato and pick up the Parisian speciality of lemon sorbet.

Unfortunately, due to the terrible fire of Notre Dame, the church that dominates this district is closed for the foreseeable future. Luckily, there are plenty of other hidden gems worth checking out, such as the Gravestone Courtyard in Paris   (26 Rue Chanoinesse) .

In mid-spring, Île de la Cité (and specifically Square Jean XXIII) is an incredible place to see some of the best cherry blossoms in Paris .

Other highlights of Île de la Cité include the chance to see the oldest clock in Paris, as well as some of the most beautiful medieval stained glass windows in the world in the form of Sainte Chapelle.

While on the little island, you may well also want to head to the cutest coffee shop in Paris, Au Vieux Paris d’Arcole for a quick coffee (or glass of wine depending on the time).

Nearby, Rue des Chantres is one of the narrowest streets in the city and is one of the few remaining locations where you can glean a true sense of medieval Paris.

When & Where to Find the Best Wisteria in Paris: Your complete guide on how to find the pretty late spring purple climber throughout the French capital. Montmartre, Ile de la Cite, Paris, France

One of the must-see Parisian arrondissements, Le Marais is one of the only parts of the city to have escaped the complete and utter overhaul of Parisian architecture by Haussmann in the 19th-century. Instead, the area comprising of the 3e and 4e arrondissements of the city maintains its historic and medieval vibe.

Highlights of this area of the city include treading in the footsteps of Nicolas Flamel (yes, that guy from Harry Potter was a real person and he lived in Paris!) , seeing a former medieval mansion which has since been transformed into a public library ( Hôtel de Sens ), and of course, enjoying a picnic in the oldest public planned square in Paris, Place des Vosges .

A Quick Guide to Visiting Place des Vosges, Paris, France

If you time your visit right, then you’ll be rewarded with what is probably the best sunset view the city has to offer. So, if you’re looking to splurge out on one panoramic view while in Paris (and don’t feel like waiting hours to go up the Eiffel Tower!) then make it a trip to the Arc de Triomphe .

For, after paying the fee and ascending the spiralling staircase, you’ll be rewarded with picture-perfect views of the city, including onto the Eiffel Tower itself.

If you want to save time and make the most of your 72 hours in Paris, then you may also want to purchase this skip the line pass for the Arc de Triomphe .

tips for how to save money in Paris, france

If there’s one activity that I highly recommend to get a better feel for the city, it’s by taking a Seine River cruise . One of the most affordable options is to take a one hour cruise which will take you past Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, and other iconic sights. Find out more details here.

Otherwise, if you’re looking to celebrate an extra special occasion (or someone), then I highly recommend taking an evening dinner cruise . The evening cruises take just over two and a half hours and include drinks, as well as a three course meal (with vegetarian options available). Check prices and availability here.

For even more information, be sure to check out our complete guide to the best Seine River Cruises (for pros and cons and comparisons between the various tickets and cruises available).

Day Two in the French Capital: Chic Paris Itinerary

Whereas day one in Paris involved waking before the crack of dawn (quite literally) in order to see the sunrise over Paris, day two of this three-day itinerary will allow you a little rest before going out to explore for the day.

Day two is all about wandering around the chicest areas of the city and seeing where all the writers and artists would hang out in the 20th-century…

how to spend three days in paris

Paris’ Chicest neighbourhood is  the  place to go if you fancy heading to the shops and splashing out on a wearable souvenir from France . It also happens to be one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods in the city for taking photos.

And so, if you’re looking to capture some photos with no people in them, the earlier you go out, the better! Saint Germain comprises of the 6th district of the city and focuses on a church of the same name, the former Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Highlights of this district include oodles of quaint coffee shops, many luxury hotels, countless antique stores and the church of Saint Sulpice (which was featured in the Da Vinci Code ) .

Escape the crowds in Paris: st sulpice

While in the 6th arrondissement, be sure to visit at least one historic coffee shop. My personal recommendation? Café de Flore . And yes, while this bistro and restaurant is a little on the pricier side of things, wander in at any given moment and you can expect to be greeted with exceptional service and a mouth-watering wine list.

First opened in the 1880s during the Third Republic, Café de Flore is easily one of the oldest coffeehouses in the French capital and has since become an institution of the city in its own right.

As such, over the years it has gained such a reputation that it has been frequented by many a famous person, including Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, and Albert Camus. Today, the typically Parisian institution is also one of the best places to get brunch in Paris.

Café de Flore café review, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris, France

You can’t visit Paris and not check out the city from above at least once (or twice!)… The Paris Panthéon has everything you want from a Parisian attraction: culture, history and a whole lotta beautiful architecture.

It’s the final resting place of great French patriots such as Marie Curie and Voltaire. Most days, there are guided tours up the dome of the Panthéon where you can spy 360-degree views of the city from above.

Other highlights of the Paris Pantheon include the Fouque pendulum, as well as many murals and frescoes depicting Paris’ patron Saint, Saint Genevieve. After all, the mausoleum was once a church dedicated to the Saint.

Nearby, head to the small church tucked away behind the Panthéon (that of Saint Étienne du Mont ) and you’ll soon discover the last surviving rood screen in a Parisian church.

Other treasures worth noting are some fantastic stained glass windows in the back rooms and the fact that a gilt gold and glass coffin in an often overlooked chapel actually houses the relics of Saint Genevieve herself.

paris pantheon view

Of course, no three days in Paris itinerary would be complete without at least a quick mention of the Royal Palace of Versailles and perhaps even a day trip to the Royal City!

Please note that while the Palace is a must-see, the town of Versailles itself is also well worth a wander around if you get the chance so do schedule more time into your itinerary for a wander around Versailles town as well!

Best seen any day other than Monday (when the Palace, Grand Trianon, and Petit Trianon are in fact closed), the Palace of Versailles may well be the most famous château in the world. Purchase your Versailles tickets here in advance.

Versailles started out as a small hunting lodge in the Middle Ages (much like the Palace of Fontainebleau). However, all this changed when Louis XIV decided he needed to own the most extravagant palace in Europe. No wonder he’s often referred to as the Sun King!

Elsewhere in the city of Versailles, there’s the ‘ Hameau de la Reine ‘ to explore (i.e. where Marie Antoinette would play dress-up), several museums, and plenty of interesting architecture to see.

If you want to visit the Versailles Domain, but aren’t sure which entrance fee to buy, here’s an ultimate guide to the best Versailles tickets.

Versailles Garden, Ile de France, France

Day Three: Offbeat Paris Itinerary

Having explored the more ‘touristy’ parts of the city, your third day in Paris is going to be more about getting to know the city at a local level.

Today is all about exploring those areas which are often missed during a ‘classic’ Paris itinerary in favour of more iconic attractions like the Louvre, Notre Dame, or the Eiffel Tower. Of all the Paris itineraries included within this list, day three is probably my favourite!

paris 3 day tour package

Of all the things to fill your time during your long weekend in Paris, I highly recommend walking around Montmartre  and soaking up the 18th arrondissement’s ambience.

I promise you that you certainly won’t regret it! As the haunt of actors, writers and artists alike for decades, Montmartre has become a breeding ground of creativity and in places like Place du Tertre , you can still see artists painting en plein air  to this day.

From the quirky vintage and antique shops that dot the area to the numerous cobblestoned roads, Montmartre has a completely unique vibe that’s not replicated anywhere else in the city.

Plus, of course, it’s also home to the world-famous Sacré-Coeur  as well as plenty of secret spots in the 18th which few ever get to visit.

Think: La Maison Rose (a coffee shop Picasso once frequented), Place Dalida (a square along the end of the prettiest street in Paris) and Square Marcel-Bleustein-Blanchet (where you’ll find the view of the Sacré-Coeur and a great green space to enjoy a picnic).

When & Where to Find the Best Wisteria in Paris: Your complete guide on how to find the pretty late spring purple climber throughout the French capital. Montmartre, Ile de la Cite, Paris, France

The words ‘Wine’ and ‘France’ are a pretty good pairing. That’s why I was so excited when I discovered that there are hidden vineyards throughout the city , as well as plenty of secret villages.

You see, Paris used to be much smaller than it now is and the surrounding hills were populated by villages which were communities in their own right.

Today, many of these little pockets of calm remain peaceful and retain their ‘French village vibe’ to this day. Some of the best places to visit in Paris where you’ll find a life outside of Paris ambience include Butte Bergeyre , Cité Florale, and Square de Montsouris.

Butte Bergeyre, unusual places to see the sacre coeur in paris

What activity is possibly more Parisian than sitting in a café and munching on a pastry? If you’re spending three days in Paris then this is an activity that you have  to try!

Before you leave the city of love tomorrow (or later today), make sure that you’ve at least tried one of the many tempting pastries that the city has to offer. Otherwise, check out my guide on how to order coffee in Paris so as to get your order just like a local!

Where to find the very best macarons in Paris, France

If you’ve chosen to spend the morning in Montmartre rather than heading to one of Paris’ secret villages, then it’s a quick walk down the hill to see another side of Paris yet again. From Montmartre, head down towards Opera.

Along the way, you’ll pass by the world-famous ‘Moulin Rouge’ and through the ‘red-light’ district of Paris. Once at the Grand Department stores, you’ll soon discover that there’s something going on all year long. Sales are state-regulated in France and so only take place during the summer and in the winter.

The two grand shopping complexes along Boulevard Haussmann are that of Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. During Christmastime in the city, both stores are decked out with stunning window displays.

The main art-deco cupola of Galeries Lafayette boasts a larger than life-sized Christmas tree which has a different theme each year. Galeries Lafayette is also home to one of the best free panoramic views in the city in the form of Galeries Lafayette rooftop terrace.

how to spend three days in paris

End your stay the right way by taking yourself out for dinner where there are only two options on the menu (meat or cheese) and the wine is served in baby bottles.

Yes, you read that correctly! Pay a visit to Le Refuge des Fondues (17 Rue des Trois Frères, 75018 Paris)  for a truly French experience on your final night of this 3 days in Paris itinerary.

The friendly restaurant is always packed with the sound of tourists and locals alike, and while the cheese isn’t the best in town, the atmosphere certainly is!

What’s more is that the door handle leading into the place is even in the shape of a baby bottle! Be sure to book your reservation in advance as this popular spot often has a queue lining up out of the door!

Where to stay during your 3 days in Paris

If you’re looking for recommendations on where to stay during your long weekend in Paris, then we have you covered! between budget finds and luxury stays, the French Capital city has no shortage of fantastic places to stay to suit every price point.

I personally recommend booking well ahead of time so as to secure the best deals and actually book the accommodation you want, and particularly love staying in Le Marais and the Latin Quarter .

Les Piaules: If you’re looking for somewhere that’s fun, affordable, and in a vibrant area of town, then Les Piaules is located in an art deco building in my old neighbourhood! This hostel was opened by three travel enthusiasts and is decorated in an oh-so Parisian way.

Check prices and availability here.

Perfect Hotel: For those who are looking to see a quirkier side of Paris on a budget, the Perfect Hotel in the 18e arrondissement is friendly, breakfast is free, and the offbeat district of Montmartre is just steps away.

Hotel Fabric: Nestled in the heart of the 11e arrondissement and located within an old textile factory (hence the name), this chic hotel is perfect for a weekend getaway. Nearby attractions include the trendy bars of Rue Oberkampf, as well as the place where all the Parisians hang out in the summer months, Canal Saint-Martin.

C heck prices and availability here.

Hotel Petit Paris: Not far from the Luxembourg Gardens and close to the Latin Quarter of the city (an area so-called because, during the Middle Ages, students of the nearby Sorbonne university would converse with one another solely in Latin) , this boutique hotel is in the perfect position for exploring Paris on foot.

Shangri-La: If you’re looking to  seriously  splurge on a romantic stay during your time in the city, then this hotel faces the Eiffel Tower, is home to a 2 Michelin star restaurant and spa facilities.

Hotel Monge: Close to the metro and with its own spa, Hotel Monge is a four-star hotel that’s not far from the Natural History Museum. Just a stone’s throw away from the Seine, this accommodation is a slice of luxury in the heart of Paris.

Paris essentials for your French Capital itinerary

Whether you’re looking to spend three days or three weeks in Paris, you’ll need to pack a few Parisian essentials in your bag to ensure that you can make the most of your trip. Heading to Paris for the first time? Here are my very top tips for first-time visitors to Paris .

For when your phone runs out of battery or technology just fails (as it so often does), you’ll want an old-school guide book for all of the best maps, itineraries, and café suggestions the city has to offer.

French is the official language of France and it can help to know a few simple French phrases before you go. Always be sure to say ‘Bonjour’ when entering a store as it’s polite and carry a small french phrasebook and dictionary with you in your bag

Before you visit the City of Light, then you may well want to read some fiction and historical works and memoirs about the city. Here are my very top creme de la creme picks for the best books about Paris !

Like many other European capital cities, Paris is a place best explored on foot. Just be sure to bring bottles of water and suitable footwear- those cobbled lanes sure are pretty but they’re not conducive to walking well in heels! If you’re looking for a free and self-guided tour of Paris, I’ve created guides for:

Le Marais Walking Tour: History & Medieval Architecture Montmartre Walking Tour: The best of offbeat Paris Old Paris Walking Tour (Best of Île de la Cité, Latin Quarter & Le Marais)

If you want to see a number of museums and cultural sites while in the City of Light, you may well want to consider purchasing an all-in-one pass. This 2,4, or 6-day pass gives you access to over 60 museums, and in many cases, offers skip-the-line options at many of these institutions.

When visiting any European capital city, comfortable shoes are a must. And Le Marais arrondissement of Paris is no exception. Be sure to leave your high heels at home as there are plenty of cobbled streets.

I personally recommend these shoes as they go well with both jeans and dresses. I would also add that any kind of tennis shoes, i.e. ones like these , are really practical for wandering around the city.

Paris, like much of mainland Europe, uses type C and E. This means that if you’re travelling from the US, Canada, the UK, and many other countries, then you’ll need to purchase a travel adaptor. This all in one adaptor contains USB ports and works with several different plugs.

In the summer, you can’t go wrong by pairing a cute midi dress with classic white tennis shoes for a laid-back smart casual look that’s just as chic for walking around a city’s cobbled lanes as it is for wandering coastal paths. I love this dress and have it in several colour ways. In terms of tennis shoes, this is my go-to shoe.

When it comes to winter in Europe, most places (with the exception of a few islands) can get pretty cold and so warm layers is a must. I find that cute ankle boots like these ones are the perfect mix of practical meets cute.

Shoulder seasons (spring and summer) in Europe tend to come with a mix of rainy and sunny days and so, again, layers are a must. Trench coats and sneakers are the best uniform to explore the continent in.

Finally, a cross-body bag like these ones is a must. I personally use a crossbody bag  by this brand  and love its shape, size, and versatility. As well as being convenient and compact, it’s one of the safest ways to transport your valuables, all the while looking chic. I also recommend bringing along a travel adapter  like this one  so you can charge all of your electronics during your stay!

Best Paris Tour Packages in 2024

With monument-lined streets, exquisite museums, classical bistros and designer boutiques, Paris is the dream holiday destination for many. Paris tour packages will show you some of the most famous monuments in the world. From the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe and from the Notre Dame Cathedral to the Place de la Concorde, all are stunning, and not to be missed. Of course, the Eiffel Tower is the highlight of Paris packages. A view from its top is captivating, revealing Paris in all its splendour.

Paris packages also offer sightseeing tours covering various museums including the Louvre, Fragonard Perfume Museum, the Centre Pompidou and the Musee d'Orsay. Be it family holidays or honeymoon, whatever you travel to Paris for, the entertainment options are limitless: visit the many bars, enjoy the opera or groove to the many jazz or rock concerts. Another highlight of Paris tourism is shopping - from lively flea markets to lofty boutiques, Paris has it all. The city is synonymous with fashion, and fashion shopping is a “Paris thing”. Paris remains at the forefront of international trends, and visiting designer boutiques and flagship stores is among the top things to do in Paris. You’ll find homewares shops and resplendent art nouveau stores, vintage shops and antique flea markets. Bookshops, and of course, gourmet-food and wine shops galore line the streets of Paris. Paris is a city that never sleeps, and you shall never get bored, not even for a minute.

One of the most romantic cities in the world, Paris is one of the most popular destinations for a European honeymoon. Stroll on a bridge across the river Seine, enjoy a glass of wine at an artistic sidewalk café, visit colourful street markets, and shop at designer stores on your Paris honeymoon.

Paris’s reputation for its cuisine is known world over. Whether you seek a cosy neighbourhood bistro or a Michelin-starred restaurant, you'll find your pick of them on your Paris trip. Dining in a Michelin star restaurant is one of the best things to do in Paris. Enticing patisseries, boulangeries (bakeries), fromageries (cheese shops) and crowded street markets offer a culinary paradise to visitors.

Whether you are couple looking for romantic Paris packages, or considering Paris for your next family vacation, or a traveller looking to explore the art and museums of Paris, MakeMyTrip can find you the right Paris tour packages to choose from.

Best Time to Visit Paris

The best time to visit Paris is from spring to fall, which lasts from March to October. Summer is also the most crowded time – and the most expensive – for Paris tourism. For lower rates of Paris packages and significantly shorter lines at attractions, plan a visit in the fall. Seasonal attractions will surely delight you but if you are travelling on a budget, the off-season is the best time to visit Paris. Keep in mind, though, that Paris is one of the most visited cities in the world, seeing more than 30 million travellers yearly. So, no matter what time you visit, there will always be a lot of tourists. Here is a monthly breakup that might help you decide your best time to visit Paris.

March to May: Paris comes alive in spring with beautiful flora all around. February to April is excellent for outdoor activities like cycling, walking, picnics and more. This is the peak season for tourists visiting Paris as the Paris weather is at its best.

June to August: Summer time in Paris is when the city receives more than eight hours of sunshine daily. However, there can be unexpected showers so remember to carry an umbrella with you at all times. Light cotton clothes, hats, sunscreen, sunglasses and a bottle of water are some other things you need to carry if travelling to Paris between June and August.

September to October: September to December is autumn in Paris. The average temperature is between 10-15°C and the nights are cooler. Paris packages for travel during this season are relatively lower priced than summer.

November to February: The temperature during these months can drop to 1°C and the Paris weather can be pretty cold. If you plan to visit during this time, be sure to pack enough heavy woolens to help you brave the cold Paris weather. Since there are fewer tourists, the prices of accommodation and transit decrease considerably. This is the best time to visit Paris for budget travelers.

How to Reach Paris

Being the capital of the most visited country in the world, Paris sees a lot of tourists throughout the year. There are three international airports in Paris, namely Charles de Gaulle International Airport, Orly International Airport and Beauvais (Aéroport de Beauvais Tillé).

If you are looking at booking Paris tour packages from India, you can choose from a variety of airlines. Many airlines operate flights to Paris from various Indian cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru etc. Direct flights to Paris from India are operated by Air India and Air France.

Paris enjoys good bus service, both within the city and to and from other cities in France. Eurolines is one of the major bus operators in Paris. There is also Megabus, a budget travel bus operator, which connects Paris with Brussels, United Kingdom, Amsterdam etc.

Paris is linked to all important cities of France by excellently built expressways (also called autoroutes). Traffic is dense, and it is best to travel by public transport. If you do wish to travel by car, it is advisable to hire a taxi.

Paris enjoys excellent railway connectivity to all other parts of France and the rest of Europe, which greatly boosts Paris tourism from all around the world. Paris has six different railway stations, which are not connected to each other but run trains to and from various other cities and European countries. Some of the important trains in Paris include the Train Express Régionale, Trains à Grande Vitesse, the high-speed Thalys, the Eurostar and Intercity trains.

Paris Visa for Indians

Indian travellers visiting Paris or any other city in France for a holiday are required to obtain a France visa before travel. France is a part of the Schengen group of countries and hence the Schengen visa rules apply for France visa. A tourist visa is granted for a period of less than 90 days, and can be applied for up to 3 months before the start of the intended Paris tour package from India.

MakeMyTrip offers visa application assistance as a part of Paris tour packages.

Places to visit in Paris

Eiffel Tower

The most enthralling and mesmerizing of all Paris tourist places is the Eiffel Tower. It finds its place among the Seven Wonders of the World. An architectural marvel, the Eiffel Tower tops the list of places to visit in Paris. It is synonymous with the identity of Paris, and is undoubtedly the most visited monument in the world.

La Dame de fer (the Iron Lady), as the French call it, the Eiffel Tower is truly magnificent and stands proudly at a height of 300 metres. Once the tallest structure in the world, it is now France’s best-known landmark. It consists of three floors, with the first two levels offering restaurants while the top level is for panoramic views of the city. The Eiffel Tower is best seen at night, when the city of Paris glitters below in all its glory. You can also pre-book a visit to the Eiffel Tower as a part of your Paris honeymoon package.

Palace of Versailles

Once the residence of King Louis XIV of France, the Palace of Versailles is one of the three most visited monuments in France. The Hall of Mirrors, the King’s Grand Apartments and the Museum of History of France are located in the Palace and offer insights into the French history. The magnificent palace complex, along with its beautiful gardens and grounds, leave visitors spellbound. Owing to the grand size of the palace complex, a mini train shuttles between the terrace in front of the castle and the Grand and Petit Trianon. This palace is one of the grandest and the most historic places to visit in Paris.

Louvre Museum

A pilgrimage for art lovers, the Louvre or Musée du Louvre is one of the most visited art museums in the world. Home to the iconic painting of Mona Lisa that art aficionados from across the globe come to see, The Louvre is also the biggest museum in the world in terms of the number of exhibits. Located on the banks of the River Seine, the museum showcases ornate traditional architecture, and is one of the most famous Paris attractions. The Louvre houses some of the most famous and in-demand art collections in the world including Venus de Milo and the Victory of Samothrace.

Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris

Also known as Notre Dame Cathedral, Notre Dame de Paris (Our Lady of Paris), is one of the world's most stunning Gothic-style cathedrals. It tops the chart of the most iconic places to visit in Paris and has been the highlight of Paris tourism for ages. One among the connoisseurs of art and architecture, Notre Dame Cathedral is famed for its dramatic towers, spire, stained glass, rose window, statues and sculptures. After a disastrous wildfire struck the cathedral and caused significant damage in April 2019, it has been shut down for visitors. Repair work at a large scale has been started and efforts are being made to restore the structure.

Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe, the world’s largest triumphal arch is a significant Paris attraction. In 1806, Napoleon I ordered the construction of this arch to honour the Grande Armee, and it now makes for a breathtaking center of Paris’ cityscape. The iconic monument is inspired by the arches of Antiquity, and carries some renowned names from the country. If you stop by in the evening, you’ll notice that a flame is lit for the Unknown Soldier. Explore the monument to know its incredible history and national importance.

Champ-Elysees

Soak up the unique experience of Paris on the Champs Elysees, the most stunning avenue in the world. It is located right across The Arc de Triomphe. It is visited each day by nearly 300,000 people, who come to admire its majestic monuments, enjoy a shopping spree, or get caught up in the excitement of the major festive events that are organized here. It is the best place to visit in Paris for fashionistas. There’s always something going on, by day or by night. It is a shopper’s paradise and you will find outlets of all major brands in the world, local as well as international. Your Paris honeymoon package is incomplete without visiting this spot.

Sacre Coeur

Referred to as "that big meringue" by the Parisians, Sacre Coeur rests atop the hill of Montmartre. Over a million tourists flock to visit the structure every year. They climb up almost 270 stairs to the top of the hill, to reach this Basilica. Its gold-leaf heavy, Romanesque and Byzantine-style interiors are a huge hit. However, visitors prefer staying outside on the terraces which offer panoramic views of the city below.

Montmartre is a medieval hilltop village in Paris. You will notice a white building atop a hill, St-Pierre-de-Montmartre, one of the oldest churches in Paris, and a historical landmark in Montmartre. This church makes for the highest point in the city of Paris. St-Pierre-de-Montmartre is built on a traditional Latin-cross plan, and gives a hint of medieval and later styles in its make. A must-visit on your exploration of Montmartre, this historical church with its stained-glass windows is absolutely jaw-dropping. A walk through the artistic neighbourhood of Montmartre is one of the most interesting things to experience during your Paris honeymoon.

Quartier Latin

The Latin Quarter is the intellectual center of Paris. Bookstores, schools, churches, book-clubs, publishing houses, and expensive boutiques characterize the district. It is the best place to visit in Paris for literature lovers. Founded in 1253, the quarter was called Latin because students and professors spoke the language. You will follow the footsteps of Descartes, Verlaine, and Hemingway as you explore. Changing times have brought Greek, Moroccan, and Vietnamese immigrants, among others, offering everything from couscous to fiery-hot spring rolls and souvlaki. Stroll along Quai de Montebello, going through the collection of the Bouquinistes (secondhand-book dealers).

The most entertaining of all Paris attractions, Disneyland is one of the best places to visit in Paris, especially with kids. Disneyland boasts two theme parks, along with entertainment options, shopping complexes and food courts. Things to do in Paris

Indulge in a shopping spree

The ultimate and the world’s most favored shopping destination, Paris will enlighten you with a whole lot of couture and flagship stores. Home to all the leading fashion and luxury brands, it is rightly known as the fashion capital of the world. You can shop your heart out at the world’s largest antique flea market, St. Ouen, or bag all you can from the leading flagship stores of Louis Vuitton and Sephora. Shopping is one of the most loved things to do in Paris.

Relish delicious local delicacies

Savor French delicacies at Michelin star restaurants, street-side cafes, bistros, and lounges. The most loved dishes include croissants, patisseries, crepes, and baguettes complemented with local French wine. Tasting the local produce is one of the best things to do in Paris. Baked goods are found in abundance in a lot of street side bakeries. Breads, cakes, puddings and cupcakes, with freshly brewed coffee are a huge hit.

Explore the famous museums

Paris is a city of museums. Renowned for her cultural contributions to the world, the city hosts hundreds of them, from the world-class artifacts of the Louvre to the priceless artworks of the Musée d’Orsay. The Mona Lisa has the world’s most recognizable smile. More than 10 million visitors come to the Louvre each year to see it. Whether it’s contemporary art, fashion, architecture or temples to Monet and Picasso, there’s a museum for visual art in all its forms here. Add a couple of museums to your Paris city tour to really explore the soul of Paris.

Enjoy a dinner cruise on the Seine River

As romantic as it can get, a cruise dinner on the Seine River is one of the best things to do in Paris. As you sail off from the harbor, you will get to see some of the most scenic vistas all along the river. Enjoy a peaceful sunset from the cruise, with your loved one on your side and glass of exotic French wine in your hand. A romantic Seine cruise is an ideal addition to a Paris honeymoon package.

Go on a day trip to Mont St Michel

For more than a thousand years, the distant outline of this island abbey has sent pilgrims' spirits soaring. Today, it does the same for tourists. Mont St-Michel, one of the top pilgrimage sites of Christendom through the ages, floats like a palace on the horizon, some 4hrs away from Paris. If you can take out time from your Paris sightseeing, this makes for a good day trip.

See the famous landmarks of Paris on a bicycle tour

Paris is a charming city, and one of the ways to explore it is by cycling. Bikes are available across the city and you can avail one at an access terminal for Euro 1.70. After 30 minutes, you can return your bike to any stand in the city. A bike ride in the French capital is the best thing to do with family and friends.

Watch a sunset from Eiffel Tower

The most iconic monument in Europe, Eiffel tower boasts of its rich history. It stands as tall and proud as ever. Watching a mesmerizing sunset from the top floor of the Eiffel Tower is one of the most enchanting things to do in Paris. You will catch a glimpse of the Paris skyline and overlook the beautifully designed city.

Take a tour of famous monuments

Tour the city and admire the beautiful architecture of some of the well-renowned and historical monuments. Palace of Versailles, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Opera house are some structures worth visiting on this Paris sightseeing tour. Palace of Versailles traces its history back to the French Revolution. Notre Dame, though a revered site once, suffered a sudden fire in early 2019, and now stands closed for visitors. Eiffel tower and the Opera house still boast of their old-world charm.  Pre-book your Paris sightseeing with MakeMyTrip.

Watch a cabaret show at the Lido

After day of Paris sightseeing, head to the city’s famous Avenue des Champs-Elysées and discover a world of decadent dancers, sparkling dresses, extraordinary sets, magical lighting and captivating music. With the talented performers on stage and talented chefs producing delicious dishes in the kitchen, take in the sights and sounds of one of Paris’ newest and most impressive cabaret performances. Dreamlike and tantalizing, the show's sets offer a tour de force of imagination and excitement!

With so much to do in and around the city, no wonder that Paris tour packages are so popular amongst travellers! So, go ahead and shortlist your preferred Paris packages and get set for a trip of a lifetime!
