Captain Spike and Pirate Fettuccine do a wonderful job keeping everyone entertained including the parents!! I really appreciate all the humor that flies over our kids heads but makes it hilarious for the parents. We were lucky enough to see a pony on the shore so keep your eyes peeled! Kids received special treats, that was definitely a fun bonus the girls did not expect! I certainly appreciate the attention to detail from the mask wearing of the pirates to the cleaning of the cannons. Everything is very well done. Perfect for good clean family fun and even manages to take your mind off of the current state of the world. Thank you Pirates

A MUST DO in Beaufort, the Pirate's Revenge is a fun and entertaining way to relax on the water and get to know Beaufort. Pirates Fettuccine and Kegger as well as Capitan Spike are all incredibly kind, committed to their characters, and great performers. They answered all questions the kids threw at them with grace and humor, and made a ton of jokes that flew over kids' heads to keep the adults entertained too. It was so cool to be on the water, and I highly recommend doing it at night- extra spooky and the sunset on a pirate ship can't be beat! We will most definitely be back!

We had such a fantastic day in the Revenge! Pirate Fettuccini and Captain Spike were so much fun! We can't wait to do this trip again!!!! All the crew was interactive and made sure each child felt special! That's such a big thing and I know my kids appreciated the extra attention! The only drawback was the elderly woman at the ticket stand who was rude to me then accosted my daughter after our ride to explain her rudeness. My daughter is nine.

Here is Pirate Fettuccine and my kids with the water cannon. What a blast!

So much fun! Aaarrrrrgh! We loved the ghost pirate story and experience! Fettucini is a beautiful, magical pirate hostess and a great storyteller. Captain Spike and Pirate Kegger was hysterical! A MUST DO for the whole family if you have little ones, the day cruises have a pirate chase, sunset cruise is better for older kiddos and couples, as it does get dark while you're out! We LOVED the history and attention to detail. This will be a yearly tradition!

I have been taking my kids on the Pirates Revenge cruise every time we visit NC for at least a decade. We love it every time! Kegger, Cpt. Spike, and Fettuccine are always so much fun, and make sure the adults have as much fun as the kids. There is never a boring moment, and the cruise is always over too soon! The crew all have a great sense of humor, and we laugh the entire time. Fettuccine is beyond wonderful with the kids - she learns every kid's name and addresses them by name and makes sure each and every child on that boat feels included and is having a blast. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. You will have an amazing time and want to go back again and again.

This Experience is an absolute must if you have kids and come to Atlantic Beach or Beaufort area. The crew does an absolute amazing job entertaining the kids. I'm pretty sure our daughter thought she was an actual pirate who got treasure by the end of the tour. Keep up the great work and we will for sure be back again.

We took our 5 year old grandson on this river cruise while we were in Beaufort this past week. It was great for the little ones. The captain and crew members were fantastic with the children, even called them all by name. There are water canons and foam swords for interactive play. The crew was very conscientious about COVID precautions also; had children do activities as families and disinfected after each group and had hand sanitizer for all to use. It was one of the highlights of our grandson's week! If you have little ones, it is is great fun for them.

We had the best time on the Ghost Cruise with Kegger, Spike, and Fettuccine. From the moment Kegger came down the dock in full Pirate gear thumping his cane with every step, we knew we were in for a great cruise. The ghost stories were awesome but not so scary that would cause nightmares in those with overactive imaginations. My kid stuck by Captain Spike, who dubbed him Pugsley, the whole night. He then got Kegger to call him (my kid) up to help perform a sea shanty. It's a video I will show over and over. We will most definitely sail again the next time we are in Beaufort. Ps that will be next summer....

Pirate Cruise

our grandson had a blast as did my husband and I. the crew was fun and entertaining.. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone who has ages 4-9 to visit! Worth the money paid!

Great fun for kids and parents. We had kids 5, 7, and 10 with their parents. It was interactive and a delight. Our 5 year old was very scared about even going onto the boat. After easing him on the crew was very welcoming and got all the kids involved. They had a great time. Well worth the money.

We did this on a whim. We were at the beach for the week and my in-laws got this as a treat for the three grandchildren. We usually have one day with some type of trip around the area, usually either mini-golf or the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll shores. We arrived a little early and waited at the dock for about half an hour. The boarding was supposed to start at 2:30 and didn't begin until 3:00. Nothing huge, but I notice little things like that. Before we boarded Captain Spike and Pirate Bilge Rat came out to warm up the crowd. Pirate Billy Bones took off to steal the treasure before we could get to it. It was a bit campy but the kids absolutely loved it. When we finally boarded the Renegade we were thrown into the show and drafted into the crew and introduced to two additional Pirates Knothead and Fettucini. The crew seemed to all really enjoy what they were doing and really interacted with the passengers and especially the kids. The kids all received pirate bandannas and pirate tattoos, scars and mustaches and beards to complete their look. They were each shown to their own cannon which shot out water. We went out into the inlet and the kids got to practice their cannon shooting. After about an hour Billy Bones showed back up and had stolen the treasure. The kids each manned their cannon and shot them at Billy who eventually relented and gave up the treasure. Each kid got three gold coins from the treasure. The whole afternoon was a lot of fun. The only thing I would recommend is that the crews banter seemed a little impromptu and unrehearsed. I wish there had been a little more scripted, but overall we had a fun time. The boat has a small gift and snack counter and a restroom aboard. The pirates stayed afterwards for signatures and photo ops. I would do it again in an instant. The kids had a blast and it was a nice little trip around the Beaufort waterway.

After reading brochure , we decided to surprise our grandson with this pirate treasure hunt on the Renegade on his (11) birthday with the whole family included. Was a little pricey for (7) of us @ $25.00 each but over all it did keep the (3) kids busy for about 1 1/2 hrs with the crew interacting with not only the children but also the adults, myself included ( don't volunteer unless you are willing to get cooled off) all in fun!! Cpt. SPIKE and his crew went (overboard) to involve each child with free bandanas and face painting but the action packed water battle shooting of the cannons by each of the kids at Billy Bonez went over very big!!!! There was a covered area of the ship for shade if desired and also had drinks on board for sale. Each child departed the cruise with hidden treasure and a fun packed pitate cruise advanture memory.. It was worth the price as I watched my grandkids having such a fun time and ending with Cpt Spike and crew taking the time for pictures with them made it even more (SPECIAL) Arrr gah !!!!!! Extra information: if you are familar with Crabby Patty's restaurant in Havelock, NC we met (Patty) name sake of restaurant as we were waiting to board the cruise ship, which she runs also and told us of looking for a location in Beaufort for a 2nd Crabby Patty's restaurant in the future..good luck as that would be more convenient and save about a (30) minute drive to Havelock which is our family's annual place to eat on our vacation at Atlantic Beach each year. Also Cpt. Spike is her son.

I took my grandson on the "Pirate Cruise" in July and my grandson and granddaughter on the "Treasure Hunt and Shackleford Island Adventure" in August of 2013. The "Pirate Cruise" lasts about an hour and one-half and is exciting for the kids from start to finish. The ship is clean and well maintained and the crew does a fantastic job making it fun for the kids. The price for the cruise is a good value and the items (food/drinks/souvenirs) that they sell aboard the ship, while a little expensive, do not gouge the customers as so often occurs at tourist attractions. I highly recommend this cruise for youngsters 4-10 years of age. The "Treasure Hunt and Shackleford Island Adventure" lasts about two and one-half hours and is on the same ship as the "Pirate Cruise," so my comments above apply equally for this cruise. Several cautions for this cruise, however. First, while the web site for Pirate Adventures states that there is a water cannon battle on this cruise there was no such battle on the cruise I took. Instead there was a water pistol battle aboard the ship for the kids, and while it was great fun my grandson was a little disappointed--he had expected a repeat of the water cannon battle he experienced on the "Pirate Cruise." Second, while at Shackleford Island there is plenty of opportunity for wading in the waters on the sound side of the island. This fact is not mentioned on the web site, so many of those on the cruise were not prepared with towels, swim suits, or wading clothes. My grandchildren just went in the water in their play clothes and dried off in the sun. This certainly was not a real big deal, but it would have been better if we had brought along towels and they had worn the appropriate swim clothing. Again, I highly recommend this cruise for the 4-10 years of age set. As for parents and grandparents, do what is suggested on the Pirate Adventure web site: "Relax, sit back, and do absolutely nothing" except to take pictures and wish there had been such an adventure when you were a kid!

pirate cruise in beaufort nc

We took our five kids on the pirate adventure. I have to say that the crew really goes out of their way to make it fun for the kids. It is mainly geared towards kids 10 and under. Our kids had fun and the island treasure hunt and swimming was also enjoyable for the kids. I did like the fact that parents could be involved of just watch.

Here’s what you need to know for the summer of 2020: Normal capacity of the pirate ship has been significantly reduced in efforts to allow more space between family units. For most passengers over the age of 11 (there are a few exceptions), face coverings are required to board the ship and must be worn during the cruise. With a reduced capacity, it’s best to make your reservation well in advance to assure you have a spot during your planned visit to Beaufort. You can book your tour and learn more from the official website of the Beaufort Pirates Revenge .

7 family friendly pirate adventures on the outer banks

7 Family-Friendly Pirate Adventures on the Outer Banks

The Outer Banks (OBX) is North Carolina is an amazing location for a pirate adventure for the whole family. Our family visited the Outer Banks this summer on our two-week cross-country road trip. Whether you are up for fun and frolic on the high seas or landlubber entertainment, this list of seven family-friendly pirate adventures on the Outer Banks should be on your to-do list.

North Carolina’s Outer Banks is a natural spot for pirate adventurers (as it has been for centuries.). In the 1700s, real pirates, namely Edward Teach “Blackbeard,” Stede Bonnet “The Gentleman Pirate,” Charles Vane, and the infamous Calico Jack Rackham roamed the waters around the Outer Banks stirring up mischief, terror, and treasure-seeking quests. Step back into history and explore pirate lore with these 7 family-friendly pirate adventures on the Outer Banks.

7 Family-Friendly Pirate Adventures in the OBX

#1 – pirate adventures at manteo.

An absolute must-do at the OBX for pirate families is the Pirate Adventures of the Outer Banks  located in Manteo, Roanoke Island, North Carolina. Children and adults will be whisked away on a pirate adventure on board a pirate ship, Sea Gypsy IV. The actors on the ship will immerse you in pirate lore and take you on a swashbuckling ride to find lost sunken treasure.

They have a great story surrounding a stinky pirate named Pirate Pete. The kids will have the opportunity to read a treasure map, spy for messages floating in a bottle in the sea, and man a water canon to defeat the pirate scourge. The adventure lasts a thrilling 1 hour and 30 minutes as is $23/person (age 3 and older). Those under 2 will still need to purchase passage for $12.

#2 – Pamlico Jacks at Nags Head

It doesn’t get more family friendly than enjoying a hearty lunch or dinner at Pamlico Jacks in Nags Head. On entering, pirate kids are given gold doubloons and coloring pages.

You have the option to dine inside or out but I highly suggest sitting outside. The patio portion of Pamlico Jacks is designed as the deck of a pirate ship. Your children will enjoy standing at the helm and imagining that they are guiding the vessel on a swashbuckling adventure!

Best yet, they have an extensive kids menu so all the family can enjoy a fun and relaxing meal. If you happen to be heading there before dinner, schedule your meal for right before sunset to be treated to an amazing view off the bow of the ship.

#3 – First Flight Adventure Park at Nags Head

While not specifically pirate themed, children (9 and up) and adults will enjoy a thrilling adventure at First Flight Adventure Park at Nags Head. My kids were begging to do this after lunch at Pamlico Jack’s but with kids under 48 inches, it wasn’t going to happen.

This is a great adventure for the daring older kids and bold parents in your crew. You will travel across rope bridges and platforms ranging from 12 – 50 feet in height. There are easy, intermediate and advanced courses. You will utilize many items handled by pirates and seamen (e.g. ropes, cables, barrels, a hammock) to get through each course. It will be a physical test of your agility. Imagine yourself as a marauding pirate or a buccaneer jumping aboard a British navy vessel.

#4 – Teach’s Hole at Ocracoke Village

Another family-friendly pirate adventure is located in historic Ocracoke Island.  Teach’s Hole is a pirate specialty shop and includes an exhibit of the famous pirate, Blackbeard. Blackbeard, whose real name was Edward Teach, met his demise on November 22, 1718 near this spot.

Teach’s Hole is not open year-round so check the website before visiting. Not only can you look at some amazing pirate weapons and see a documentary on Blackbeard’s life but you can purchase fun pirate souvenirs for the kids and adults as well.

#5 – Mutiny Bay Adventure Golf in Nags Head

There is no shortage of miniature golf parks on the OBX but Mutiny Bay Adventure Golf in Nags Head is one of the best for pirate-loving families. You will join Billy Bowlegs on an adventure through cannon fire, pirate caves, and the pirate ship, the Sea Wolf. As you move through the 18 holes on the course, you absorb interesting pirate facts about buccaneers of the Golden Age of Piracy. Mutiny Bay Adventure Golf is located right next door to Pamlico Jack’s Restaurant (see #2).

#6 – Kill Devil Hills

The town of Kill Devil Hills on the Outer Banks has a story steeped in pirate lore. According to legend, pirates stopped at a place on the Outer Banks and chose to spend the time drinking very strong rum. One pirate said to his mate, “Boy, this rum could kill a devil” and the name was born. Walk near the sand dunes on the beach at dusk (bring a flashlight or lantern) and imagine what it would have been like to be a pirate on that very spot in the 1700s. Tell ghost stories if you dare.

#7 – Graveyard of the Atlantic Ghost Tour in Manteo

Explore the legends of pirates including Blackbeard’s pact with the devil during this evening ghost tour. The Graveyard of the Atlantic Ghost Tour  “Shipwrecks, Pirates, Legends and Lore” only occurs on Tuesdays at 8:00pm. This tour is not for the youngest buccaneers in your crew.

The walking tour lasts one and a half hours. You will make several short stops as you learn the dark side of the pirate life. Adults are $13 and children (10 and under) are $8. This tour is cash only and reservations are required.

Three Bonus Family-Friendly Pirate Adventures Right Off the Outer Banks

If you have time, catch the ferry or drive to Beaufort North Carolina to extend your family-friendly pirate adventures. The inlet at Beaufort is the site of the destruction of Blackbeard’s most famous ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge. Read more about the Queen Anne’s Revenge wreck and salvage  here  (northcarolinahistory.org) and here  (history.com).

#8 – North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort

At the Maritime Museum , you will see an amazing exhibit of artifacts (including cannons and belt buckles) from Blackbeard’s flagship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge. The wreckage of the Queen Ann’s Revenge was discovered in the waters around Beaufort in 1996.

#9 – Port City Tour Company “Legend of Blackbeard” Tour

In Beaufort, just down the road from the Maritime Museum, sits the Port City Tour Company Office. The Legend of Blackbeard tour will take you on a historic adventure through the streets of Fish Town (Beaufort’s name in pirating times).

This is a walking tour so be sure to wear good shoes and get all the kids to use the bathroom before heading over there. They do not have public restrooms. Older children (8 and up) will get the most enjoyment out of this tour but there is a fair good of acting so the younger ones can pay attention to parts of it.

#10 – Blackbeard’s Grill & Steam Bar

Finally, round out your adventure with dinner at Blackbeard’s Grill & Steam Bar.  The restaurant is only open 5pm – 10pm Wednesday through Saturday. It is open on Sunday for lunch from 11:30am – 2:00pm and again for dinner (4:00pm -8:00pm).

They have some of the best seafood around and you can even try Blackbeard’s famous grog. If you have young children, do not eat there too late as the crowd becomes more of a bar scene.

Pirate Play at the OBX

With this list of family-friendly adventures, you can now set sail for the Outer Banks. If you added any of these to your OBX itinerary, comment below with your experience.
