Kaylie P.

The radius travel toothbrush is also available on Amazon for the US readers!

Hi Kaylie, thank you for sharing your suggestion for a travel toothbrush with us!! 🙂

Jessica Lippe

The Scrubba, packing cubes, and massager all sound great to me! But my favorite gift is experience. I started giving these a few years ago and have come up with creative ways to still have a package under the tree for the recipient. It started when I put admission tickets in a box, put that box in a box, and put that box in a box for my sister to unwrap. Last year I gave a “family trip in a box”, which had a Groupon for family admission and a gift card for gas and snacks for the way there. This year, I shouldn’t share all my gift-giving yet, but a pilot I babysit for is giving me standby tickets to Maui! I am passing one of those tickets on to my sister, and I’ve come up with a great idea for how she can unwrap it on Christmas morning!

alex

That sounds like the perfect gift!

Sherry Adams

Some nifty items on this list! Would LOVE to have YOUR packing cubes.

Thanks Sherry ?

Alice Teacake

Great list here! I’ve got quite a few of the items you mention packed in my backpack. The Scrubba is great, I always carry a neck warmer (the thin variety too to use as a bandana) and scarf bags are a great thing for solo female travellers like me to stash their stuff!

alex

Oh that’s a great idea with the neck warmer! Thanks for sharing Alice!

Beauty & skincare products

Surprise and delight your lucky gift recipient with something they’ll truly love and use—both at home, on the go, and away on vacation. You can’t go wrong gifting timeless skincare staples like good ol’ SPF (especially one from beloved brand Supergoop ) or a soothing, sensitive-skin-approved, redness-banishing facial spray they can spritz on mid-flight.

Hydration is the name of the travel game, especially on airplanes where cabin air is dry and humidity levels are low. That’s where nourishing lip balms and skin salves come into play, both of which make excellent gifts. Meanwhile, beauty enthusiasts of all ages will appreciate tried-and-true essentials like a botanical-infused hair care set that’s TSA-approved, or a restorative hair mask to combat dry and dehydrated strands, which can happen all too often when globetrotting.

Travel-friendly clothing & shoes

When it comes to fashion, comfort is key—and some things just never go out of style. It’s always a good idea to stock up on travel-friendly wardrobe staples , including cute joggers , everyday leggings , and blanket scarves to keep you warm and toasty in flight. Alternatively, present your giftee with a full loungewear set , our uniform for long-haul flights. Last but not least, don’t forget about footwear. When it comes to gifting, options abound, from supportive walking shoes to versatile ballet flats , which, yes, are officially back in style.

Image may contain: Clothing, Knitwear, Sweater, Sweatshirt, Long Sleeve, and Sleeve

Tech-savvy travelers are sure to love the following gifts: A portable sound machine , which easily clips onto backpacks, diaper bags, and totes, makes it easy for kids and adults alike to snooze (almost) anywhere. Wearable tech, including Oura Rings and Apple Watches, is functional and, frankly, pretty neat, tracking biometrics like heart rate, step count, sleep, and more. Meanwhile, a quality pair of noise-canceling headphones can come in especially handy on plane, train, and car rides filled with screaming children, chatty seatmates, and, well, you get the gist.

Allow your giftee to enhance their in-flight entertainment set-up with a Bluetooth wireless transmitter, which lets them pair their wireless headphones to the seatback entertainment system without purchasing a pair of wired headphones while in the air. Finally, a tech accessory travel storage case will help keep wires and cables organized and tangle-free throughout the duration of their trip.

Image may contain: Accessories, Earring, Jewelry, Art, Porcelain, and Pottery

Home & kitchen items

These home and kitchen accessories will inspire wanderlust all year long. Highlights include scented candles and a fragrance diffuser set from one of our favorite hotel brands. In the kitchen, your giftee can enjoy at-home sushi nights, home-cooked Italian pasta courtesy of an incredible pasta maker that rolls and cuts the dough into traditional shapes like lasagna and taglioni, and authentic French press coffee reminiscent of the cups you’d find in a Parisian cafe. Other honorable mentions include a glossy travel-themed coffee-table book that’s chic enough to double as decor and a splurge-worthy sheet set from none other than the Four Seasons, transforming any ol’ bedroom into a luxury suite.

Image may contain: Home Decor, Cup, and Art

Gourmands will especially love one of these food-centric gifts , which lets them savor the flavors of the world from the comfort of home. For breakfast and brunch, they can feast on bagels and lox from NYC staple Russ & Daughters, while Lauduree’s French macaroons make the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. Similarly, sweet tooths can indulge in Belgian chocolate courtesy of Neuhaus; the 24-piece Collection Box is filled with a combination of pralinés, ganaches, and caramels that are (essentially) edible works of art. Meanwhile, those craving a sweet taste of Italy will especially enjoy the Pastificio G. Di Martino x Dolce & Gabbana Picnic Tin, which is filled with five one-pound pasta bags plus two picnic print placemats. If your giftee likes to try a bit of everything, snag them a snack box filled with Turkish delights, or, for something savory, a gourmet assortment of French cheeses coupled with smoked salmon, pork paté, trout roe, and French-made blinis.

When you can’t travel carry on only, Apple Air Tags are a must-have travel gear item that helps give your loved one peace of mind.

Dave loves the Sony RX100 VII as a final addition to his two   DSLR Sony bodies. I use it for video and vlogging all the time! It fits great on my gimbal too keeping things lightweight but looking like a million bucks. With a Carl Zeiss lens and 20.1 megapixels, you’ll have professional-quality photos for a fraction of the price of other professional cameras. We love it. It’s small, lightweight, and easy to use and we often leave the bulky DSLRs behind for the day and use this as our camera to capture amazing travel photos.

Luxury Travel Gifts

No holiday travel gift list would be complete without including some ideas for the person who loves the finer things in life. These luxury travel gifts will help you choose the right present for the discerning traveler on your list this year.

46. Level8 Luggage for Traveling

best gifts for travel Level 8 Luggage

I think we have tried every type of carry-on luggage out there over the years and we love this Pro Carry-on with Laptop Pocket   by Level8. We felt so chic going through the airport with these hard cases and modern design and it was easy t o pop out my laptop and documents right from the front of my carry-on when going through security.

For our checked bags, our yellow Voyageur Check-In 28′ turned heads. We didn’t worry about anyone mixing up our bags on the conveyor belt with our unique color and design. We found the 28-inch a bit too large, but you can order 24′ or 26′. But with the large handle and ultra-quite 360° spinner wheels it was super easy to navigate through the airport.

  • On a personal note, my hard case carry on fell from the top of a van on my trip and because my laptop was secure in the front hard case pocket, it wasn’t damaged. That was a huge relief. Save 10% off all products with the code ThePlanetD10

47. Noise Canceling Wireless Headphones

best travel gifts AirPods Pro Noise Cancelling Headphones

I have used the Beats Studio 3 Wireless Headphones for years but recently bought myself a pair of AirPods Pro and have really fallen in love with them. They are much smaller and more lightweight than my previous noise cancellation headphones and with the advanced noise-canceling technology, the comfortable ear pads, and great quality sound out there these make long-haul plane flights bearable.

You can control the volume and skip songs at the touch of a finger and they don’t cover your ears so they are easy to sleep with. One other thing I found cool is that you can use the charging container as a phone holder to watch movies as well.

48. Kindle Paperwhite

best travel gifts Amazon Kindle Paperwhite Reader

With a glare-free display, the Kindle Paperwhite is like reading on paper. Even in the sunlight. It is much easier than carrying around heavy books. Plus it is waterproof, and the battery lasts for hours. Load it with some of your favorite travel books and give this bestseller to the travel lover in your life. Get this gift so the traveler in your life can pack light, but still read lots of books. You can just pop it into your carry-on and it takes up no space!

49. Sony Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker

travel gifts Portable Bluetooth Speaker for travel

If you are someone who watches a lot of movies on their laptop or just likes to turn up the audio, the Sony Waterproof Portable Speaker is a luxury you will want to take with you. It is small enough that is doesn’t take up a lot of room it is waterproof and dustproof so it is durable and it has great sound quality. Many of the other speakers out there may claim to have crisp sound but this speaker actually lives up to the hype.

I find some of your gift ideas are quite useful for travelers. In this pandemic time, a face mask is certainly one of them. Another extremely useful item is a portable power bank. This emergency charge supplier is extremely useful for any globe trotter.

We tried to put together a really comprehensive list that includes al the best gifts for travelers. Glad you liked it!

Honestly, a lot of those travel gifts for women are great. Yes, they are archetypically female, but it sounds like he based the list on women he polled. I think what some of the female readers were hoping to point out was that most of the items mentioned in the female section were pointedly appealing and useful to women alone, and none necessarily engaged the mind or body. While the male section, barring a few items , women would genuinely find equal interest in, so could have easily gone into the “everyone” section. This list is helpful and is meant with only good intentions. Looks like most are taking it as such.

Very true. We tried to break things up a bit to give people some organization, but I agree, I would use all of them as well!

Great list, a lot of cool ideas there! How about adding a translator like Travis or Pocketalk? I’m thinking to get one for my dad but I’m waiting for Black Friday offers. Keep up the good work Matt 🙂

Translators are a good idea. We prefer Google Translate ourselves, I haven’t tried the ones you suggest. But thanks for sharing!

Wonderful. I am get some of these gifts for myself. I just love this list. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you for sharing such a unique list. You always impress us. The one thing that stands apart from the list and my personal favorite would be the GOPRO HERO 8 BLACK. This is the best partner you could take along while traveling or while gifting something to a traveler this is the best choice one could get, as it helps in catching all the memories that would remain with you forever. The one and the only thing i would like to add to this list is the City Map Glass. If your dad’s a whiskey drinker who likes to travel, this custom city map glass is about as thoughtful a gift as it gets. The best part is it’s personalized (which will make it even more special). Yo get to choose his favorite city to get etched into the glass, so every time he has a drink, he’ll reminisce on his best memories.

I got the same world map pillow! Its a shame that it looks better than feels=) However they were made for visual pleasure and they do their job

Pop Fashion Hidden Pocket Scarves also look better than feels, but does its job=) Pretty nice thing, especially when you and on tours and trips

If someone handover to me to select the best gift for a traveller, I would select Go Pro Hero 7. And I’m damn sure s/he will be happy after getting this kind of gift. Because an action camera is mandatory for a traveller nowadays. Travellers move from here to there and captured their memory, scenery and other things by a camera. In this way, Go Pro 7 is the best option. The quality of this camera is outstanding.

All the gift idea for travellers are really good and all are very very useful for them.

I had gifted that DJI Mavic Pro to one of my friend long back. He really liked it too much and after 2 years also if we meet then again and again he says thanks for that amazing moving camera. It was costly for me (at $1250 i got that time) but i am very happy that my best friend is happy to use it.

Great posts! How do you always come up with such unique ideas?

hank you for sharing your blog

I love giving the Karmin T70 hair clippers as a gift 😉

Great post! I’ll be forward this to my family for some holiday shopping ideas. 🙂 I’m also really looking forward to the Pilot from Waverly Labs, which is an earpiece that translates foreign languages in real time. It sounds too-good-to-be-true, but the tech seems legit. While it might take away a bit of the fun from learning new languages, can you imagine the kind of interactions you’d be able to have with non-English speaking locals? What time to be alive!

I would love about…oh, 90% of the stuff on this list, even though in a few cases I already have something very similar to it already. Some would actually be great for the occasional travelers on this list or the many campers we have in my husband’s family. Thanks for providing some inspiration for my upcoming Christmas shopping!

Good list. I like everything on the list. Thank you for sharing these great ideas 😀

your post always different,i like it so much, all gadgets in your collection are good, thank you for sharing your blog………

Thank you for a long thoughtful list of gifts!

These gadgets are useless, though. Fun to own but no real value. Dumb.

If you want to read some practical travel gear, we have many posts on that. This is a post about Gifts for Travelers. I always think of gifts as being something you would love to have but not necessarily need. Nobody needs a magnetic globe, but they are sure fun to have. You can find more gear we love in our packing tips section. https://theplanetd.com/category/travel-tips/packing-tips/

Awesome list guys. We would love a lot of them in our stocking. We are massive fans of the Sony RX100 series. We had the mark 2 and that was amazing, I can’t imagine what the mark 5 is like. Definitely would love the Mavic. Cheers for the great post.

Great resource, i will use this list for birthday present 🙂

Great idea this list ) Have to say we either have most of these articles or were planning to buy them. Btw love the world map pendant =))

T+L Editors Reveal the 21 Gifts They've Secretly Been Wanting All Year

From comfy Allbirds sneakers to Parisian pastries, here’s what we really want this season.

pretty travel gifts

Travel + Leisure / Madison Woiten

When it comes to gift-giving, the holiday season can be both a blessing and a curse — after all, finding the perfect gift for a loved one can be fun, but it can also be pricey, confusing, and all-around stressful. And if someone on your list asks for a custom-made or hard-to-come-by item? Making it happen can feel like a project.

That’s why the Travel + Leisure team got together and compiled a list of the items we’re gifting and hoping to receive ourselves this year. Some of them are must-haves specifically for travelers, but many of them are likely to be well-received by anyone on your list. The best part is that a handful of these items are up to 50 percent off right now! From a Calpak duffel bag to comfy Allbirds shoes to festive baked goods , here’s everything we’re gifting this year.

Troubadour Carrier Tote

Troubadour Goods

If you’ve been on the lookout for a carry-all that’s both functional and stylish, Troubadour’s Carrier Tote may be the bag for you. It’s structured and sturdy; plus, it’s waterproof, so it’s sure to hold up well through travel of all types. It’s also quite secure thanks to a subtle zip-top opening. Traveling with tech? The Carrier Tote has a dedicated padded laptop compartment as well as a quick-access pocket for your phone. You can even slightly change the size of the bag with built-in side snaps to better suit what you’re carrying.

“I'm gifting this stylish bag to my best friend this year (I hope she doesn't see this before opening!),” Updates Writer Taylor Fox said. “She travels a lot for work and this is the perfect-sized bag for overnight and weekend trips alike; plus, it looks elevated and sophisticated. With plenty of pockets and durable carrying straps, travelers using this tote can stay organized on the go, no matter where their 2024 adventures take them.”

Allbirds Men's Wool Runner Mizzles

Allbirds is arguably the internet’s favorite comfy shoe brand, so consider gifting a pair this year. We especially like the Wool Runner Mizzles for their cozy merino wool uppers and water-repellent construction. Travelers can walk or run through pretty much anything when they’ve got these on without ever experiencing pain, soreness, or excessive moisture. They come in 14 colors ranging from Natural Black to Thrive Teal — some of which are up to $51 off right now.

“I finally picked up on my husband's hints and got him these sleek, water-repellent Allbirds,” Senior Editor Kayla Becker said. “They're the shoes everyone wants, thanks in part to celebs like Ashton Kutcher rocking the brand. But they're not just stylish; they're also super comfortable, durable, and great for all-day walking (even in the rain), which I think will come in handy when we go on trips this year.”

Marmot WarmCube Active Novus Jacket

It may not look like it, but this jacket from Marmot is one of the warmest we’ve worn all year. It has a unique cube construction that offers comfort, warmth, and style, and it falls perfectly to the waist for optimal coverage in cold weather. It even features zippered hand warmer pockets and an adjustable drawcord hem to really lock in heat, plus multiple layers of insulation that will keep you warm even if the jacket gets wet. The WarmCube Active Novus comes in five sizes and three colors, and we may just be adding all three shades to our holiday list.

“After getting so much use out of this jacket myself last fall and winter, I'm gifting one to a family member this year,” Senior Editor Lydia Price said. “The cube design is incredible for retaining heat despite a light, breathable, and slim build. I found it perfect to use as a mid-layer for skiing and as an outer layer during transitional weather. Anyone who contends with a cold climate will find themselves reaching for this jacket again and again.”

Calpak Luka Duffel

Most avid travelers would agree that they can never have too many luggage options, so consider gifting them the Calpak Luka Duffel this year. While structured, this soft bag easily folds and squishes down to be stowed under the airplane seat in front of you, or into a closet at home. Beyond its convenient storage capabilities, it also boasts luxury features like a sturdy trolley sleeve, separate shoe compartment, and durable material. The straps are crafted in a way that prevents them from digging into your shoulders no matter how much you stuff inside, and plenty of interior pockets help keep things organized. We especially love that it’s available in 21 colors ranging from neutrals to metallics.

“I refuse to use anything but a weekender bag as a carry-on when I fly,” Associate Editor Hillary Maglin said. “I recently started using Calpak's Luka Duffel and it became my new favorite travel bag pretty much immediately. It's super soft making it comfy to carry, and it's quite spacious while remaining within carry-on size limits. I've been stopped by multiple strangers asking where I got the bag, and even my boyfriend who initially referred to it as my ‘space bag’ (I have it in the metallic gold shade) admitted it's a pretty efficient travel duffel. He just might be receiving his own this holiday season.”

Boll & Branch Signature Long Sleeve & Pants Pajama Set

Boll & Branch

There’s something about these Boll & Branch pajamas that remind us of a spa day — not just because of the zen hues they’re available in, but also because of their unbelievably soft and breathable stitch. Made with 100 percent organic long-staple cotton, these pajamas are comfy enough to wear all night and day. There’s some subtle ruching at the shoulders and on the back for a touch of femininity, and there’s both a chest pocket and an elastic waist with a drawstring string closure for added functionality. As luck would have it, they also happen to be on sale right now. Whomever your gift recipient is, they’ll likely thank you for such a luxe and comfy present.

“Cotton pajamas are my go-to since they work in any season, and I’ve never felt more luxe than when wearing this set from Boll & Branch,” Associate Editorial Director Morgan Ashley Parker said. “They’ve gotten even softer with wear and, since my mother has been eyeing mine with envy, she’ll surely find these under the tree this year. I personally prefer the long sleeve and pants PJs but there’s also a shorts set and a sleepshirt as well.”

Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set

If your giftee has a thing for the super comfy beds found in their favorite hotels, Cozy Earth’s Bamboo Sheet Set is right up their alley. These extra-soft sheets are made with 100 percent viscose from bamboo fabric, and they feel just as luxurious as that dreamy bed from their last vacation. They even made Oprah’s Favorite Things list in 2018 — they’re that comfy. Plus, they’re designed to prevent you from feeling too hot or too cold. You can snag the sheet set in 13 colors and six sizes including split king. And right now, all sizes and colors are 30 percent off.

“These temperature-regulating sheets from Cozy Earth are buttery soft and easily the most luxurious thing I own,” Editor Sophie Mendel said. “These have seriously upgraded my sleep experience by keeping me cozy and cool all night long. They’re the perfect gift for anyone trying to get a better night's sleep or make their room feel like a five-star hotel.”

HP Sprocket 3x4 Photo Printer

While it’s nice to keep your favorite photos stored digitally on your phone, there’s something exciting about an old-fashioned printed photo. The easiest way to get images from your phone onto paper is with HP’s Sprocket 3x4 Photo Printer. This tiny device produces vibrant, high-quality photos in seconds using zero ink technology. We’ve been obsessed with it all year — and we’re pretty sure every traveler and nostalgic loved one on your shopping list will feel the same way.

“I can't say enough great things about this adorable mini photo printer,” Mendel said. “The perfect gift for travel lovers, you can send photos directly from your phone to this portable printer for quick, instant, high-quality printing. You'll get cute mini prints on sticker paper, perfect for gifting or keeping for yourself to hang on the fridge or stick in your travel notebook to remind you of your favorite trip memories.”

Sprinkles Holiday Assorted Dozen

When it comes to cupcakes, many connoisseurs will tell you there’s nothing better than Sprinkles. If you’ve got a loved one with a sweet tooth, they’re sure to appreciate a box of assorted Sprinkles cupcakes delivered right to their doorstep. While you can’t customize this particular box, you’ll be pleased to know it includes four vanilla, four red velvet, and four chocolate peppermint cupcakes, each decorated with holiday-themed sprinkles, candies, and fondant. This gift box may seem a bit pricey, but keep in mind that Sprinkles cupcakes are extra-large — and also wildly delicious.

“I’m not able to attend my BFF’s Christmas party this year but I’ve got plans to send Sprinkles' holiday box of cupcakes in my place,” Parker said. “The set of 12 includes her favorite (red velvet) along with classic vanilla and a chocolate peppermint that I wish I was there in person to taste for myself. These sweet treats can be shipped anywhere nationwide — and I may just add in a box of pupcakes for her pooch, too.”

The Dermstore Holiday Beauty Box

If you’re not into transferring your cosmetics and skincare products from their original packaging into travel-sized tubes every time you hit the road, consider adding the Dermstore Holiday Beauty Box to your wishlist. It’s packed with 21 high-end products from brands like Supergoop!, Kate Somerville, Caudalie, and more, and the best part is they’re already in TSA-compliant bottles and tubes. The box is valued at more than $750, but you can take it home for just over $100.

“This box is filled with a variety of travel-size luxury skincare goodies to pack on your next trip,” Writer Anna Popp said. “I love that all of the products are small and under 3.4 ounces, which makes it the perfect gift for someone who travels frequently and also enjoys nice skincare products.”

Rebecca Minkoff Simple Chain Tote

Nordstrom Rack

Looking for the perfect present for your fashion-forward friend? Go for the Rebecca Minkoff Simple Chain Tote. It’s roomy enough to fit plenty of essentials without feeling oversized or heavy, and it matches with pretty much everything. It’s also classically sleek and stylish, so you’ll never have to feel like you sacrificed appearance for function. We like to use it as a carry-on for shorter trips and as our everyday commuter bag since it’s durable enough to handle moderate wear. If you buy it now, you’ll score 55 percent off the original price.

“With so many black tote bags on the market, it's hard to find one that's strong enough to haul your stuff while still standing out from the crowd,” Testing Editor Jackie Cucco said. “I always get compliments on this one from Rebecca Minkoff, which has an edgier look thanks to the shiny leather and thick, silver chain. It's also so spacious and lightweight.”

Kelty Tru Comfort Doublewide Sleeping Bag

Give your camping pals the gift of comfort this holiday season! The Tru Comfort Doublewide Sleeping Bag by Kelty is just about as cozy as it gets when it comes to sleeping bags. It’s equipped with CloudLoft insulation, two foot vents, two built-in blankets, a zip-off top layer, and even a stuff sack for easy carrying. It’s also crafted with temperature-regulating technology, so you can bring this with you no matter the time of year. The best part? It’s large enough for two people.

“As frequent campers (and city dwellers), my husband and I are always trying to figure out how to downsize our gear without sacrificing comfort,” Fox said. “This doublewide sleeping bag is the perfect solution as it minimizes what we have to carry and store, but keeps us both warm throughout all of our camping adventures. It makes a great gift for camping couples or families and can even unzip fully to use as a picnic blanket or wear while cozied up around the fire.”

Smith Glide Jr. MIPS Helmet

Know a kiddo who’s preparing to hit the slopes for the first time this winter? Smith’s Glide Jr. MIPS Helmet is the gift they’ll need. Smith is known for its reliable ski gear, and this helmet is specially designed to protect children’s skulls from impact. Beyond that, this helmet is also quite lightweight, warm, and ventilated to keep little ones’ heads from sweating and goggles from fogging up. The Glide Jr. comes in three sizes and five colors ranging from white to cobalt.

“My nephew is starting his first ski season this year, and there's no one I trust his little noggin with more than Smith,” Price said. “I've worn the brand's ski goggles and helmets for years while honing my skills on and off-piste. They're some of the most comfortable pieces of equipment on the market, and, more importantly, they use the crème de la crème of protective technology. The Glide Jr. MIPS takes after Smith's premium adult helmets with a multi-directional impact protection system (MIPS) that reduces rotational forces on the head upon impact. He'll be rocking the helmet in the vibrant cobalt color for our family trip to Tahoe.”

Pluto Pod Travel Pillow

You may have used travel pillows before, but you likely haven’t used a travel pillow like the Pluto Pod. Unlike most travel pillows that just sit around your neck, the Pod wraps around your neck and head like a hood or space suit. It offers support and soft cushioning from every direction so that you’re virtually guaranteed restful sleep on your next long-haul flight or road trip. Adjusting the fit of the Pod is easy, and when it’s not in use, you can simply roll it up into itself and stow it in your carry-on. It may look a little silly, but you’ll have the last laugh when you hop off the plane fully rested and free of neck pain.

“I do a ton of research and testing on travel pillows as a T+L shopping editor, and I've found they aren't all one size fits all,” Price said. “That being said, the Pluto Pod is a perfect gift for light sleepers who take long-haul journeys. It provides ample neck support without feeling too constrictive, and the overhead design is great for blocking out light and noise. It really helps to give the illusion of privacy on public transit, and the germ-wary will appreciate extra peace of mind from full head and face coverage. I expect my giftee will appreciate the thoughtfulness that went into this perfectly tailored pick.”

Stubbs and Wooten Shaken Stirred Slippers

Whitney Robinson International

We doubt you’ll find a cooler pair of slippers than these. The James Bond-inspired unisex slippers nod to one of the spy’s most famous catchphrases without feeling kitschy, and the black velvet uppers offer an air of sophistication. The comfy and supportive kicks can be worn both indoors and outdoors thanks to their leather interior paired with stacked wooden heels. They’re also made-to-order, which is reflected in the price and wait time, but there’s no better gift for the suave Bond-lover in your life.

“My husband is a martini man who also happens to have a thing for shoes,” Editor-in-chief Jacqui Gifford said. “This Stubbs and Wootten collaboration between the Four Seasons Ocean Club — a Bahamian resort where James Bond was once filmed — and design star Whitney Robinson hits all the right notes. Black velvet shoes to wear with a black tie on the beach or on a cold winter's night? How very 007.”

Roverlund Out-of-office Carrier in Pink

Tend to travel with your pet in tow? Add Roverlund’s Out-of-office Carrier to your list this year. It’s perfect for you since it’s lightweight and comfy to carry, but your fur baby will love it, too, for its spacious interior and sturdy bottom. It has mesh panels on three sides for your pet to see out of and get some air, and it has multiple zip openings to help ease your pup or kitty in and out. There are even two different sizes available: a small 17-inch carrier that holds pets up to 15 pounds, and a large 19-inch option that holds up to 25 pounds.

“My dog loves his black-and-yellow Roverlund carrier and the bag has just been released in hot pink, perfect for Barbie vibes this year,” Parker said. “I’m recommending it to the parents of my pup's ‘girlfriend’ so they can have matching styles on their next trip. My favorite thing about this carrier is that the crossbody strap doubles as a leash so I don’t need to stash that away or have him get tangled up with one on while inside the bag.”

Bedhead Pajamas Paris Promenade PJ Set

Bedhead PJS

Got someone on your list who’s dazzled by all things Parisian? This pajama set from Bedhead is perfect for them, and it’s just as comfy as it is cute. The long-sleeve set is made from organically grown cotton jersey material which is cozy as can be, and the whimsical Paris print paired with contrasting piping just feels stylish and fun. It even boasts side pockets on the pants and a chest pocket on the top, plus it comes in eight sizes. Perhaps the most exciting thing about the PJ set, though, is it’s currently 50 percent off.

“Fun PJ sets are my favorite gift to give to friends and family, and this year I went with Bedhead Pajamas since they have tons of fun travel-themed prints like this Paris one,” Popp said. “The PJs are super soft and breathable so they can be worn year-round and it's the perfect way to live vicariously through travel memories in your favorite cities while cozying up at home.”

Ladurée Eugénie Gift Box

Got a cookie lover on your list? Trust us when we tell you they need Ladurée’s Eugénie in their life. Ladurée, a famed French bakery known for its incredible macarons, released the new Eugénie this year, which is basically a crunchy shortbread cookie with a melting center and chocolate coating. They’re available in eight flavors including chocolate, blackcurrant violet, and Marie-Antoinette tea, and most flavors come in cheerful pastel colors sure to remind you of Paris. And luckily for all of us, the store ships its treats worldwide.

“I got my hands on a box of these a few months ago and have not stopped thinking of them since,” Maglin said. “Not only are they one of the most mouth-watering confections I've ever tasted, but they also had me daydreaming of Parisian cafes with every bite. If you or someone on your shopping list is obsessed with French sweets, the Eugénie is a must. I'm hoping to find a box of them under the tree this Christmas.”

Haricot Vert ‘Dear Diary’ Custom Earrings

Haricotvert

Custom-made presents are equally as fun to create as they are to receive. That said, we’re loving these custom earrings by Haricot Vert. Just choose 6 to 10 charms from a menu of 128 options, and Haricot Vert will put together a totally unique pair of dangle earrings for you (or your giftee). Some of our favorite charms include an artichoke, a disco ball, Saturn, and a tiny lemon painting, but there are dozens more worth adding to your earrings. Once you’ve chosen your charms, you can also choose your preferred metal color and hardware. If you go for the deluxe option, you’ll even be prompted for your Instagram handle and overall vibe so Haricot Vert can create something perfectly “you.”

“Who doesn't love adorable custom accessories as a gift for the holidays? I love my Haricot Vert earrings, and designing them was half the fun,” Associate Photo Editor Alessandra Amodio said. “Not only do they make an incredible gift, but they are also my new favorite accessory to wear while traveling. The ‘Dear Diary’ option lets you pick from over 100 charms where you then describe your ‘vibe’ to aid the designing process. Since I'm forever in my ‘tomato-girl era,’ and a lover of all things martinis and Italy, my earrings reflect that with charms ranging from wine, tomatoes, and cheese to a little statue bust and a dirty martini. They’re the perfect gift for any travel-loving creative. If designing a pair is too much pressure, pre-designed pairs like the Radis Au Beurre and Rue de le Villette are great for any French-obsessed friend.”

Dior Limited Edition Rouge Dior Minaudière Clutch

This pre-filled metal makeup clutch is the definition of luxury — which feels like a statement of the obvious, considering the designer is Dior. The gift set comes with not only a stunning gold clutch featuring the Dior logo, but also four of the brand’s coveted lipstick shades. Your gift recipient can also easily remove the lipsticks and fill the clutch with other makeup or essentials depending on where they’re headed. You can even have it engraved for free before checking out. And because the clutch is on the smaller side, it’s great for packing away in luggage.

“Packing purses to travel with has always been a difficulty of mine which is what makes this the perfect gift for any beauty-loving bestie,” Amodio said. “Not only do you get to try out four shades of Dior's famously gorgeous lipsticks, but they come packed away neatly in an elegant golden metal clutch. Inside, you get a Rouge Dior lipstick in the iconic 999 and three refills in varying shades along with a chain to convert this chic clutch into a shoulder bag. It’s truly the perfect day-to-night (or night-to-day) purse that you already know will hold all your lipsticks. Plus, with that incredible Dior packaging (and a free sample or two), who wouldn't want to open this up for the holidays?”

Cartolina Harriet Sweater

A quality sweater is a classic holiday gift, and this year, we’re loving this one from Cartolina. It’s oversized yet flattering and it’s made of ultra-soft cashmere. A mock neck works to lock in warmth while a flowing bottom keeps shoppers from overheating or feeling restricted. Just to up the style ante, Cartolina has added a small slit on the bottom of either side. The sweater comes in two colors — black and marled biscuit — and six sizes ranging from XXS to XL.

“Cashmere is pretty much the perfect gift in my opinion, and this versatile sweater is so cozy while instantly elevating any outfit,” Fox said. “Cartolina has a series of plush sweaters, but I love that this turtle neck is the type of present you open and immediately want to wear to your next holiday party — and all winter long.”

The Renzoe Box has to be one of the coolest and most convenient ways to package makeup for traveling (or even for everyday styling). The box allows shoppers to customize their own palette of makeup products, but here’s the kicker: you can include products from different brands . Basically, this box combines the best of your favorite cosmetic brands like Tarte, Mac, Nars, Estée Lauder, Chanel, Smashbox, and more all in one convenient place. And unlike most palettes that only include one type of product, like eye shadow, this box lets you add everything from bronzer and highlighter to concealer and lipstick.

“I recently tried out Renzoe Box and it’s such a stunning makeup set for travel,” Parker said. “Instead of packing different cosmetics, you customize up to seven ‘pods’ of high-end products (think Dior, Hourglass, Charlotte Tilbury, and more) to fit in the compact case. The box has a spot for non-pod products at the bottom and even includes brushes to perfectly fit in the side cylinder. I love that there are pre-made options plus a giftable one where you share skin, hair, and eye color details about your loved one instead.”

Colourful luggage tags

It’s important to tag your bags incase of any mishaps. I also love having fun, colourful luggage tags so that I can spot my bags easily on the airport conveyer belt. I think it’s worth getting a selection to pop on different bags, so you don’t have to keep changing them. These fun luggage tags are hard wearing and easy to spot!

Travel Journal

Travel journals are back in fashion, with lots of people enjoying time away from screens and phones, to document their adventures using the power of language.

travel journal

A travel journal or planner is a lovely gift for anyone who enjoys a creative moment on their trips.

Set Of Packing Cubes

One of the best travel tips I’ve learned? How to pack efficiently! One of the best additions to my suitcase has been a set of packing cubes. These storage organisers allow you to group items together so you can find items easily, without disrupting your entire case.

packing cubes

I’d recommend a set of 4-6 packing cubes, including one for shoes so as to not make other items in your case dirty. I honestly think they’re one of the best packing accessories I’ve come across, and would make an amazing travel gift for any traveller.

Chilly’s Reusable Water Bottles

I always take a water bottle on my travels so I can refill on the go. Like many, I’m trying to cut down on my plastic usage and waste, so having a stylish and fun reusable water bottle would be a great gift!

Deluxe Scratch Off World Map

What a unique travel gift! One of my best friends gave me a scratch off world map last year for Christmas and it’s fab! After each trip I can’t wait to get home, grab a coin and scratch off where I’ve been.

scratch off map

The only dilemma – whether to scratch off a whole country or just the region you’ve been to. If you do it by country you’ll be gagging to get to Russia, although the scratching will take you a while…!

Scrabble Deluxe Travel Edition

Who doesn’t love a game of Scrabble? It’s always entertaining, puts your brain to work, and is a great addition to your luggage when you’re travelling.

travel scrabble

If you’re looking for a way to stay organised on your travels, how about buying a travel wallet. Inside, there’s space for passports, money, documents and more. Having everything together means you won’t spend hours rummaging for things when you’re on the go!

Lonely Planet’s Where To Go When

When you’re struggling for gift ideas, I’d recommend some inspiring travel books. I’m a huge lover of a coffee table book, and this one by Lonely Planet is full of inspiration, beautiful photos, and info to start planning your next adventure.

where to go when book

For every month of the year you’ll find 25 recommendations of destinations to visit.

Ultimate Worldwide Travel Adapter

I bought this for myself earlier this year and it’s made my life a lot easier when it comes to charging my gadgets abroad. The travel adapter has one standard plug port, 4 USBs and a USB-C port. I can charge 6 gadgets at once if I need to without having to pack multiple plugs and adapters.

GoPro Hero12 Camera

If you didn’t capture it, did it really happen?! Of course it did, but it’s amazing to capture your biggest adventures on a GoPro. Whether you’re bungy jumping, diving or just hanging out with friends, this new model is the most powerful and easy-to-use GoPro ever. I’ve loved having a GoPro. It’s been all over the world with me. I can’t believe how stable the footage is! You can see it in action in my ziplining video from Ras Al Khaimah .

Once you’ve got a GoPro, this is the coolest accessory to add! There are a few domes on the market, and what do they do? Allow you take a photo that captures what’s going on above and below water in one shot.

godome

This is definitely a unique travel gift for anyone into photography!

Comfortable Ear Plugs

I can’t remember the last time I went on a trip and didn’t pack ear plugs! I’m not guaranteed to need them on every flight or at every destination, but there have been a few times when I’ve been eternally grateful for them! I really rate these ones in particular, which have blocked out screaming twin boys, a guy who liked a good phlehmy snort, a constant toilet flush (learned the hard way not to sit near the toilet…) and a German stag do.

Globe Cufflinks

Looking for a unique travel gift for the man in your life? These globe cufflinks are lovely and smart, and amazingly, they actually spin!

globe cufflinks

Watch them turn as you take in the world map in all its glory! They’re the perfect present for business travellers or for a travel lover to wear to a wedding.

Deluxe Eye Mask

Similarly, this is another essential for me. I think this is the most comfortable eye mask around. I’ve had mine for two years and it’s great quality and fits nicely.

eye mask

Many have been scratchy or thin, so it’s worth spending a bit to get a really cosy, comfortable eye mask. Not only are they great for flights when you want a bit of shut eye, they’re also good on long bus journeys, and in lovely sunshiney destinations where you get blinded by sunlight streaming through the curtains at 6am.

J-pillow Travel Pillow

A good travel pillow is a traveller’s best friend! I take mine on all long haul flights. I’ve tried a few and this is one of favourites.

travel pillow

It might look like a funny shape but the J Pillow supports your head, chin and neck all at once. It’s won all sorts of innovation awards too, and for very good reason!

Men’s Travel Organiser

Another great travel gift for him, this men’s travel wallet is smart and surprisingly affordable.

It features multiple slots for different sized documents and credit cards, includes a pen and has a sturdy zip fastening. It’d make a great Christmas or birthday gift for any male travel lovers.

The Ultimate Travel Gift Guide: 40+ Unique Travel Gifts (That People Actually Want!)

November 8, 2020

If you’re short on time and low on travel gift ideas, this post is going to save your life this year! I’ve spent the past three years traveling full-time, so I’ve got a prettty good sense of what gifts travelers actually want – and which will just end up collecting dust in a box somewhere.

Whether you’re looking for gifts for friends going travelling, something sweet for your special someone, or making a last-ditch effort to shop for that random person who has everything — I GOT YOU. This giant list of unique travel gifts & ideas will have something that’ll pique your interest, I promise.

Unique Travel Gifts $50 and Under

You definitely don’t have to break the bank to find good travel gifts! So many of my favorites are under $50 and would make great travel stocking stuffers, or nice going-away gifts for friends going travelling. I tried to include a good mix of fun travel gifts and practical travel gifts in this list.

I own and use many of these already, and most of the others are sitting in my various carts for future trips. Real-Life Traveler Approved™.

Enjoy the Wood Wooden World Travel Maps & City Maps, $50+!

Unique Travel Gifts Enjoy the Wood Wooden Travel Maps

My TOP unique travel gift idea this year!! It’s one of the best ways I’ve found to commemorate my travels and keep all my travel memories alive 🙂 These handmade wooden world travel maps can be customised with flag pushpins for all the places you or your loved one have visited. They make an incredible accent piece for any home.

I am also stoked on this brand because of their focus on sustainability and their small-scale manufacturing. Most importantly – they’re based in Ukraine. Their manufacturing centre was completely destroyed and they’re currently trying to offload their existing inventory and rebuild. Every purchase helps them do so. The maps are extremely high quality and just a really lovely, thoughtful travel gift. I’m obsessed and couldn’t recommend these more highly as a gift for people who like to travel.

Click here to check out all the Enjoy the Wood wooden travel maps , or make a donation through their site to support Ukraine. Use code JALEH10 for 10% off 🙂

  iPhone/Android Tripod, $19.99

For anyone who loves taking photos — this portable phone tripod is a must! The flexible arms can wrap around railings, furniture, or other objects to create the perfect angle for a photo. This will definitely help to up anyone’s Instagram game, especially solo travelers who struggle to get good shots.

Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of the World’s Greatest Trips ($40)

pretty travel gifts

If you’re looking for a gift for adventure lovers or wanderlusters missing international travel, this is it!!! This incredible book from National Geographic is devoted to travel inspiration around the world and features their typical (stunning) full-color photography, plus in-depth explanations for each destination. There’s something here for everyone.

This is such a thoughtful travel gift and would make an amazing gift idea for someone who misses traveling. Guarantee they’ll be thanking you for the inspiration for their next trip.

Chromecast, $35

If you want bang for your buck, this is the option for what to gift someone who loves travelling. Most hotel rooms and even some in homestays/hostels have TVs, but they can be pretty much worthless in certain countries. I have watched more hours of TV in languages I don’t speak than I could count lol. Chromecast solves that problem, allowing you to stream Netflix/anything from your browser directly to your TV. It’s a LIFESAVER.

Airplane Pendant Necklace, $49.99

pretty travel gifts

The PERFECT travel gift for her this year — this gorgeous pendant necklace features a plane and a globe, in classic sterling silver dotted with cubic zirconia. Cute, stylish, and tarnish-free, it’s one of the most unique and functional gifts for the traveling woman! This is probably one of my favorite pieces on this travel gift guide – it’s SO cute in person, too.

Vaccine Card Holder

Is this a little sad? Yes, lol. But in current times, will it come UNBELIEVABLY IN HANDY for your favorite traveler? Yes, lol. This is a super basic, durable, clear plastic card holder to protect your card – literally one of THE best 2021 travel gift ideas. My card is not encased in one of these bad boys, and only 3 months and 5 countries later it is completely BATTERED. I would definitely recommend this as a travel stocking stuffer this year or including it as one of your travel gift basket ideas!

Margarita Travel Kit!

pretty travel gifts

For anyone (me, lol) who loves getting a little tipsy during their flights but craves a PROPER cocktail, this is a BRILLIANT affordable travel gift idea!! The kit comes sans tequila but contains everything else your fave traveler (or you) needs to make a marg in-flight. And it’s TSA-approved. Yes. YESSS!! Seriously such a fun travel gift. I’m picking these up for my friends this year.

Airbnb Gift Card, $50

If nothing else, give the gift of free travel! There’s a whole world of unbelievable Airbnbs out there. And I don’t know any traveler who wouldn’t jump at a few nights of free accommodation in a cosy house or laid-back beach bungalow.

Please note Airbnb gift cards are currently redeemable to USA ACCOUNT HOLDERS ONLY.

  Stainless Steel Water Bottle, $21.95

A stainless steel bottle is great for travelers and the environment – win-win. This is a GREAT practical travel gift that most people never get around to buying for themselves. This one has tons of color & size options and it’s top-rated.

  Packing Cubes, $21.63

These are an organizational godsend and probably my favorite travel item I own. They make packing an absolute breeze because they compress to save space and help organize your items. They’re an absolute game-changer. Buy these as gifts for someone going travelling and I guarantee they will use them on every single trip.

  Clip-On Phone Camera Lens, $28.99

Another great gift for travel photographers! This clip-on lens attaches to the phone to allow a wider frame and higher quality shots – and it’s compatible with iPhone, Samsung, and Google phones. The macro lens also allows for close-up detail shots. These are SO much fun to shoot with and make a really fun travel gift.

  Travel Adapter, $9.99

Boring, yes, but necessary. A good travel adapter will always be appreciated, and most travelers just opt for the cheapest version when shopping for themselves. Pick up a compact but multi-functional one with extra USB ports to charge devices, and you’ll get some SERIOUS brownie points.

Portable Phone Charger

This is another must-have that will get a ton of use. There’s nothing worse than your phone running out of juice in middle-of-nowhere, Uzbekistan (I can tell you from experience). Go for a slim, lightweight version to make sure your favorite traveler can always keep it on-hand, just in case!

  Memory Foam Neck Pillow

This is the single best travel gift I could recommend if you’re looking for value. If you know any travelers who don’t have a neck pillow, get them one. Immediately . It will change their life and make flights so much more comfortable & restful. I’ve been using this wraparound pillow for 2+ years and refuse to travel without it, but the one pictured is better-rated and offers a bit more support.

  Foot Hammock

If you know someone who struggles to sleep on flights, get them a foot hammock!! They hang off the tray table and allow you to elevate your feet, creating a much more comfortable resting position. I MacGyver myself a hammock with a sweatshirt or blanket, but would definitely appreciate a legit version. Elevating my feet has completely cured my plane insomnia and saved my life on long flights.

  Travel Towel

A lightweight, quick-drying travel towel is a godsend for any long-term traveler. This is one of those things people often don’t realize they need until they’ve already left.

Pushpin World Map / Scratch Off World Map

My mom got me the scratch off version for Christmas last year and it was one of my best travel themed gifts! It’s so satisfying scratching off new countries, and it makes a cute conversation piece in my room. One of my best friends has the pushpin version which I love too. These are definitely awesome gifts for any avid traveler.

  Collapsible Mug

Perfect gifts for environmentally conscious travelers. I use mine for everything, from coffees to hostel water refills. It’s super compact and lightweight and fits easily in my bag, it’s cute af, and I love that I’m not contributing to creating plastic waste (especially in developing countries where that plastic is likely going to end up in the ocean).

Around the World Spice Set

pretty travel gifts

This is the perfect gift for world travelers – especially in 2020, where lots of us are stuck at home unexpectedly and unable to travel 🙁 You can gift a little taste of feeling abroad with a round-the-world spice set featuring blends from Morocco, Jamaica, and Thailand, among others! It’s a super unique travel gift idea and one I’d love to get myself.

Waterproof Phone Case

Pretty much every traveler I know has destroyed their phone at least once due to an accident, flood, or falling into a lake (last example being me). Save your traveler friends the hassle and gift them a STURDY waterproof phone case to protect their electronics, so that they too don’t end up abroad with a fried phone. Again, a great practical travel gift that a lot of people won’t bother picking up for themselves, but will literally KISS you for gifting them when they get home.

Extension Cable, $15.19

Another “boring” but unbelievably useful travel gift. For some reason, many countries like to put their power ports in completely incomprehensible positions – and it is NOT A VIBE. I never thought to bring one but would have KILLED for one the past 8 months in Vietnam as I’ve navigated housing with the literal dumbest wiring imaginable. Your traveler might go “wtf” when they open this one, but I PROMISE they will use it on one of their trips and bless you for saving them from a really common inconvenience.

This one also has USB ports and is super compact for travel. I just bought one and am looking forward to trying it out on my next trip!

Unique Travel Gift Ideas Under $200

If you’re looking for super useful travel gift ideas for the travelers in your life, here are some solid mid-range options.

KnackPack Medium, $195

Practical Travel Gifts KnackPack

I cannot & will not stop raving about this backpack lol. The KnackPack is a first-of-its kind multifunctional luggage and is by FAR the best travel backpack I’ve ever used. It’s an AMAZING practical travel gift idea. It has a ton of unique and thoughtful features for travelers looking for something sleek and functional. My medium pack is TSA-approved as a carry on but fits literally an INSANE amount of stuff in it.

Amongst other features, it packs like a suitcase, and has a ton of additional pockets, making storage super easy. It also has a side water bottle pocket, comfy padding on the back, and a trolley sleeve for easy stacking on my roller bag. I genuinely cannot recommend this bag more highly.  They’ve thought of EVERYTHING and I truly couldn’t recommend this more highly as a unique travel gift this year!! It’s a game-changer.

Click here to check out color options and reviews for the Medium KnackPack , or here to check out their full range of sizes .

  Kindle Paperwhite E-Reader, $129.99

Books and travel are… not compatible. When you’ve got limited space in your bag, it’s really not practical to lug around more than a book or two (if that). And that SUCKS if you love to read. If you know a bookworm who loves to travel, get them an e-reader and they will love you forever. Curling up in bed or passing a long train ride with all your favorite books at your fingertips… that’s priceless. I would love  to get one of these… are you reading this, Mom? 😉

Check out reviews and prices here!

SplayTray, $55

Useful Travel Gifts Ideas Splaytray

This nifty invention by a friend of mine is a patented-design carry bag that expands out into a fullsize tray. It’s SO HANDY. The sides are magnetised so once you want access to all your makeup, art supplies, etc at once, you just pop the sides and everything is laid out – no more rummaging through your bag for what you’re looking for. It comes in small/medium versions and a ton of different color options!!!

  Nanopresso Machine, $64.90

For the caffeine-addicted traveler. I had no idea a “nanopresso” was a thing until recently, but it looks AMAZING. Basically it’s a teeny-tiny portable machine that brews coffee! Just add coffee grounds and water. I was a bit skeptical of the functionality, but the reviews are actually solid – so this one is a safe bet for coffee lovers! Grab the NS adapter to make it Nespresso-pod compatible!

  Fujifilm InstaX Polaroid Camera, $72

Especially in the age of ultra-curated social media, there’s something really special about real  snapshots. Your fave traveler will have a blast snapping pics with one of these, and they’ll come home with a stack of absolutely priceless photos. My favorite travel photos are consistently the grainy, garbage quality late-night snaps on friends’ Polaroids – those are always the real moments, and the ones I most want to remember!

Check out reviews, colors, and prices here!

Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

There’s something about speakers that makes everything more fun – whether you’re laying on a beach in Thailand, enjoying a beer in Germany, or hiking in Switzerland. This one is waterproof, compact, and the sound quality is amazing! My flatmates have this exact model and it’s survived countless trips to Bondi Beach.

 Mobile Wifi Hotspot

For anyone who lives online, a mobile hotspot is a must have travel gift! This little contraption creates a mobile wifi network, so your favorite traveler can stay connected, even in the middle of nowhere. This is great for people who travel frequently because I guarantee they are sick of weak wi-fi and dropped connection.

Priority Pass Membership, currently 40% off at just $55 (normally $99!)

Unique Travel Gifts for Friends Going Travelling

Priority Pass is an exclusive service that grants members discounted access to hundreds of airport lounges around the world. Especially between long-haul international flights, it makes a huge difference to be able to relax, take a shower, and squeeze in a (complimentary!) gin & tonic. Whoever you pick this one up for will LOVE you.

Check out pricing and membership tiers here!

Unique & Useful Travel Gift Ideas $200 and Over AKA Presents For People You REALLY Love

Kidding, I know you can’t put a price tag on love 😉 But if you’ve got a bit higher budget, here are some mid-range to luxury travel gift ideas that your giftee would DIE to have, but probably won’t splurge on themselves.

Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones, $199.99 (on sale from $299.99!!))

An absolute game-changer on flights, and probably one of the greatest investment items for a frequent traveler. You don’t realize how loud and disruptive airplane or outside noise can be until you can switch it off with the flick of a button. It makes a huge difference in sleep and comfort to upgrade from regular headphones. This Bose pair is one of the highest-rated noise cancelling headphones on the market, and my personal fave.

GoPro Hero 8, $299.99 (on sale from $349.99!!)

For any adventurers, a GoPro is a must have travel gift!! This bad boy can handle any weather condition and the picture quality is amazing considering how compact it is. It’s so fun to shoot with one and I’ve always come out with some gorgeous, in-the-moment adventure snaps. Don’t forget to pick up a GoPro dome to take some seriously cool half-underwater photos!

DJI Mini Drone, $399.99

DJI drones are some of the highest-rated on the market. They create spectacular aerial shots and are one of the best gifts for travel photographers. This is a definite investment but seriously opens up a whole new world of possibility for photos! I personally would kill for a drone, especially as a solo traveler who often struggles to take pics unassisted.

Chic Luggage Set, $325

Who wouldn’t love some sleek new luggage? My personal favorite brand Calpak makes beautiful luggage sets in a wide variety of colors and patterns. The rose-gold (pictured) is the most popular, but I own the white marble set , and have my eye on the rainbow gradient . They’re super lightweight but very sturdy and well-made.

Shay Mitchell’s Beis line is also EXTREMELY well-rated and very sleek. Revolve currently stocks a ton of luggage options including a 29” roller linked here , or a 21” roller linked here (both come in black and beige!).

Panasonic Lumix Mirrorless Camera, $479.99

If you know anyone who loves photography and travel, get them a mirrorless camera. An iPhone simply doesn’t do incredible destinations justice, but a DSLR is way too bulky to be practical for travel (I hate lugging mine around everywhere). A mirrorless camera gives you all the quality of a DSLR without the heft – it’s the perfect travel camera. I’ll be swapping out my Canon 6D for the Panasonic as soon as I can afford it!

FitBit Versa 3 Smartwatch & Activity Tracker, $229.95

Traveling does a number on your body, and it’s really hard to stay in shape (especially when you love trying new foods). Any long-term traveler would love a tracker to help monitor their activity and stay on top of their health while abroad. This was my personal most-wanted item this year, and I’m confident I’ll get a ton of use out of it on future travels.

Gift an Experience

If all else fails, and you don’t want to burden your traveler with more Stuff – give them a gift they’ll never forget! Like a Harry Potter studio tour in London . Or a hot air balloon ride over Sydney’s Hunter Valley wine country. Or a romantic dinner cruise through the San Francisco Bay .

Or… just grab them a gift card and let them choose their dream experience .

Unique Travel Gifts for Her

Silk sleep mask.

Trying to sleep on a flight or in an unfamiliar environment (like a night train) can be absolutely miserable – a sleep mask will help to get some shut-eye. I have this pink silk version and it’s so  cute and super soft.

Shampoo & Conditioner Bars

The number of times my shampoo/conditioner have leaked into my bag and destroyed some important possession are like… endless. And continually lugging around/purchasing new (sh*tty) hair products is both impractical, and bad for your hair. Solution? Gift travelers shampoo/conditioner bars (and bar soap!), which travel easy and leak-proof, while keeping hair sleek and moisturised even in the most remote destinations.

Cute Leather Luggage Tags

Especially if someone has indistinct luggage (like a basic black case), these will help avoid any mix-ups at the airport. And in case the bag gets lost, airport staff will easily be able to identify it. Plus they’re cute. My ex’s family got me these one year and I LOVE them – I use them every time I fly!

Personalized Leather Passport Holder

Your passport is the most important thing you take with you on your travels! And especially with frequent trips, they can get pretty banged up – mine is literally falling apart. If you know someone whose passport looks a little worse for the wear, get them a passport holder. They look nice and they’re a super functional travel gift.

Also, Socks

I know it’s a running joke that you know you’re old once you get excited about socks for Christmas, but like, I would really love some socks lol. Whatever you decide to buy this year, just chuck some socks in the package too.

If you or someone you love needs socks too, here’s a link . You can never have enough socks, guys.

ANYWAY, I hope this helped you sort out your last-minute Christmas shopping this year!! Hope you guys have a lovely holiday season, and please let me know if you ended up buying any of these gifts for world travelers in your life. I’d love to hear about it!

A Little Review… The Best Gifts for Women Who Travel

Last updated on January 26, 2024 by Shannon

As a long-term female traveler on the road for more than ten years, I have carefully tested and tried countless travel products. My first search was for the perfect travel purse—and after several years on the road, I found one that does the trick for most types of trip. Over the years, my endless search for great travel gear means I also have some ideas on what makes a great gift for women travelers.

Travelers don’t have a lot of extra space, so it’s important they use travel gear that’s multifunctional, durable, and looks great too. There’s an art to travel, and I spent dozens of trips since my first trip abroad back in 2005 testing options in an effort to reach that perfect mix of practical and useful—but still stylish!

Table of Contents

Practical Travel Gift Ideas for Women

Although finding a great cross-body travel purse was my first goal, over the years I’ve found a few other things that always make it into my luggage. Some of these I bought myself, others were gifts from family members. If you’re searching for the perfect travel gift for a woman in your life, know that all of these things make my travels more enjoyable, and make me look like a more put-together traveler!

My Favorite Cross-Body Travel Purse

The best cross-body purse for travelers. It can be hard to find the right fit, size and comfort, but his one is well-designed and perfect for stylish yet comfortable and convenient travels!

A lot of travelers, like me, carry a purse in everyday life, so it makes sense to carry one while traveling. I’ve tried to carry my things just in a backpack, a fanny pack, or in my pockets, but it’s not for me.

So I searched for the perfect travel purse. I have carried expensive bags, cheap sack-like bags, regular purses, messenger bags—none of these bags ever quite kept pace with my travels. I started my yearlong round the world trip with an  AmeriBag ($85)—this bag actually works exceptionally well as a travel bag. It’s easy on your back since it’s ergonomically designed to remove stress for those with back problems. But it’s not very stylish.

My Baggallini Travel bag  ($83) is a finalist—it looks good, and has a lot of pockets. It also has a sleeve to attach to a roller bag, which is super useful for getting around airports. It’s a tad less durable than I needed for long-term travel, but it’s the right gift for some women. Consider gifting this purse for those who take shorter vacations (like a European trip) versus long-term backpacking.

I did find the perfect travel bag—the Donner by Overland Equipment—but they discontinued it in 2015. When I needed a replacement travel purse, I renewed the search and settled on Travelon , which channels what I loved about the Donner. The Travelon Anti-Theft Cross-Body Bag  ($46) emerged as a clear leader for its combination of size, functionality, and the sheer number of great pockets.

antitheft travel purse gift idea

It’s the best crossbody travel purse I’ve yet found on the market. It looks nice enough to carry out to dinner, but it also holds enough for a day of exploring inside of it (phone, map, sunscreen, hat), plus a water bottle spot.

If you’re picking out a gift for a travel lover, this purse will keep pace with her travels. And if your loved one is heading to Europe, it transitions from go-bag for sightseeing to dinner with friends.

What makes this travel gift a winner?

  • Sturdy features , the material is strong and the strap is wide and comfortable.
  • Great convenience factors ; there are a range of pockets in various areas so you can easily store and find things. I like the back zippered pocket to hold my tickets and passport for quick access.
  • Good looking and versatile ; works in a range of situations from sightseeing to dinner.
  • A great size ; this purse fits an outing’s worth of stuff in it: water bottle, sunglasses, mirrorless camera, notebook, snack, chap-stick and Kindle.
  • Anti-theft features ; I usually travel with a carabiner to secure my purse strap, and this one has it built it. So handy! It also has locking zippers and slash-proof fabric. In Europe, the carabiner and anti-theft features are particularly ideal so you can affix the purse to your chair in places like Paris and Rome where petty theft is high.

I always carry a purse on my travels, and if you want to gift something super useful to a traveling woman in your life, this gift hits all of my positives. That said, it’s on the larger end of the bag perspective (I always need mine to fit my camera). So if you want a lower-profile option, the Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Messenger Bag has the same anti-theft features but a bit of a lower profile and won’t make you look like a tourist!

Picking one out as a travel gift for the woman in your life : Amazon has a range of gorgeous colors. I prefer the black Travelon so that it matches a lot, but there are some beautiful prints that would make this a more special gift.

A Stylish Pocket Scarf

pocket scarves make good travel gifts

Wearing a scarf is a great way to dress up an outfit when you’re traveling, and a  Hidden Pocket Scarf  ($20) is a fun, practical addition to a travel wardrobe. It’s wicked useful and comes in several of colors.

Women can use the pocket to keep passport, credit cards, and spare cash safe while roaming around Europe or squeezing through crowded streets in Asia. It’s useful back home too—it’s a great way to go lightweight for a night out on the town as it takes the place of a small clutch. Now that I have a home base in Barcelona, Spain , I regularly use this during the chillier months in place of a purse.

The best travel wardrobes have items that function in different capacities, and this wins on that front. Give this travel gift to a woman backpacking in Europe, or perhaps one planning a lot of overland travel. She won’t regret tossing one of these into her bag in a neutral color that coordinates with most of her outfits.

Note : I own this black scarf from Clever Travel Companion (a company specializing in pickpocket proof clothing) and it is a winter scarf—it’s larger and thicker. The Pop Fashion scarf is lighter and therefore ideal for multi-season travel. Both companies use great materials that will last—cheaper brands use thin material that shows the bulky contents of your scarf (thus defeating the purpose of hiding things in it!).

A Stylish, Warm, Durable Cardigan

best travel cardigan women gift idea

Part of what makes a great gift is giving something that they’ll love using, but might never splurge on for themselves. That’s where this premium cardigan comes into play. Do you need a fancy sweater to make your travels memorable? No. Does a nice cardigan not only keep you warm on the plane but offer both sun protection and warmth? Yes.

Look no further for the perfect cardigan for the traveling woman in your life. Made from Merino wool (a breed of sheep from Spain), the State Fusio Cardigan  ($80) is a treasured piece of my travel clothing . It’s a travel must, especially when venturing around Europe. The weather fluctuates a lot in Europe and you are likely facing warm days and cool evenings.

The great thing about Merino wool is that it stays cool in warm weather and warm in cold weather. Having a good sweater is important so that you can keep yourself warm on chilly planes, buses, and trains. And even more, this sweater looks so good that I always get compliments on it when I’m on the road. It works just as well on a plane as it does in a bar for happy hour. I own this sweater in grey and blue, and one of them is always in my travel bag.

If you love the idea of gifting a premium sweater but want a bit lighter of a price tag, the Goodthreads Hooded Cardigan ($46) is also terrific—it has a hood! Enough said.

a high end travel cardigan makes a great gift

Cute, Comfortable Sandals

the perfect travel shoe is a great gift for women travelers

Traveling usually means long days on your feet where you’re covering miles and miles of terrain—often cobblestones if you’re in Europe.

The sad truth is, sports sandals like Chacos are usually the most useful and comfortable travel sandal—I own these Chacos ($70) and have gotten more than 15 years of use out of them. But sometimes, you just need something that’s as cute as it is functional—and that’s certainly not Chacos.

Since trusty Chacos and Birkenstocks aren’t going to cut in on a European trip—or any trip where the woman in your life wants a versatile shoe they can wear sightseeing and then to dinner—I offer up instead the NAOT Sabrina sandal ($106).

I know, it’s pretty perfect, right? It’s so comfortable, and surprisingly stylish, too. Like my cardigan, people have stopped me on the street to ask about my sandals.

These feature a thermoplastic rubber sole and cork footbed, so you can expect the shoe to contour to your foot and become even more comfortable over time. And the style is downright trendy. I have worn these through a dozen countries now and they’ve never given me a blister. I am on my third pair, each lasts me about a year of near constant use. This is the perfect sandal for hot summer days spent wandering through historic European cities or rural villages in Africa or Asia.

Given that the price point is over $100, it’s likely a splurge for the woman traveler in your life, but one she will love. And while I think the brown and black color combination is the most versatile, each one is gorgeous.

Safety Travel Gift Ideas for Women

Smartphone security.

lifeproof case review

Your smartphone is likely one of the most expensive items in your day bag—the traveler in your life (or you!) should keep it safe. The best cases on the market are both the Otterboxes and the Lifeproof cases.

While Otterboxes are good for daily use, the Lifeproof FRE case wins out for travelers. There is a reason why Lifeproof cases are so popular among travelers: They are almost indestructible. Lifeproof cases protect your phone from falls, sand, snow, and water. Anything you dream up for your trip—your phone case can handle it. There are several colors and styles available, and they also have a floating case if you’re planning a beach holiday.

If your the traveling woman in your life already has a great phone case, gift her a smartphone tether ($10). Smartphone snatching and pickpocketing is a real worry, and a phone tether is cheap and super useful for travelers.

A Stylish Camera Scarf

Finding a comfortable camera strap is challenging. If the traveler in your life travels with a DSLR, then you might want to upgrade her camera strap. Enter the  LIFEMATE Scarf Camera Strap ($20).

I love the idea of a camera strap made from a scarf. Made from soft fabric, this scarf camera strap is comfortable, functional, and stylish. It will look great as she snaps photos of anything from the Taj Majal to the Eiffel Tower.

Pretty Travel Gift Ideas for Women

Travel themed jewelry.

Adorable Silver Travel Bracelets : I love a good bangle wrist, and if you add some classy ones in sterling silver or stainless steel, your loved one can easily wear this jewelry on the road without worrying about it getting damp. These are my favorite jewelry pieces that would make memorable gifts for any woman who loves to travel the world.

Stainless Cuff Bracelet with Travel Saying gift idea

  • Stainless Steel Adjustable Wire Travel Bangle ($13)
  • Stainless Cuff Bracelet with Travel Saying ($12)
  • Compass Pendant Stirling Silver Necklace ($38)
  • Pewter World Travel Pendant Necklace on Sterling Silver Chain ($21)

Unique Travel Gift Ideas for Women

In addition to these travel items, I always pack a few extra things that make my travels easier.

Backup Battery

If you’ll be using your smartphone then don’t forget a backup battery. I carry the budget and compact Anker PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger  ($20), or consider the Huge Capacity External Battery Pack Dual Output Port ($35), which is a touch more expensive, slim, and it will carry enough charges for multiple devices.

Reading Material

I always bring a Kindle as I like have a single-purpose device and no distractions. You’r loved one can download a few books related to the country she’s visiting to learn about the history, culture, and people. Or it would be fun to peruse my list of great travel books and add a few to her Kindle to inspire her next trip.

Tunes for the Road

Spotify won’t work overseas, so consider upgrading to Spotify Premium for your trip. With premium, I download all of my music so I have offline tunes for the train rides and days out wandering new cities.

Handy Travel Journal

There are no better notebooks than a Moleskin and this travel themed one is super cute. You could also buy her a premium subscription to the online travel journaling app of her choice so she can easily share her adventures with you and others.

That wraps up the handful of my very favorite travel items that make it into my backpack on each trip, despite the extra weight. And there are other things I love (my backpack, my hiking boots, etc), but each one of these items have made my travels better in some identifiable way. As a traveler, every single thing I add to my backpack adds to the weight I carry on my back.

And as a woman running a business from all over the word, I need to look nice when I’m on the road. For this reason I am ruthless and meticulous about what I allow into my bag. And while many of these items cost more than other brands, these are the ones that tend to combine quality, style, and function. If it’s only going to break or look misshapen a few weeks into my trip, then it’s not a good purchase.

My full travel packing list is here , and I keep my Amazon Shop updated with my favorite gear if you need other gift inspiration.

And if you’re interested in generally  the best gifts for world travelers , I put together a gift guide for those who love to travel—both practical and inspirational gifts!

Awesome site Shannon with loads of helpful info! I’m looking at going to South America next month if all goes according to plan and the whole thing seems a bit daunting if I must say. At least I’ll have everything I need :-). Would you reckon it’s safe enough to just take Malaria tablets and I have my Yellow fever vaccination. That is if I closely watch what I eat and drink and lather myself with repellent and sleep with a mosquito net? I’ve been to Morocco and Egypt and Turkey and all of them recommended a few different vaccinations but I never had any and did not have any issues.

Congrats on the upcoming trip! I know how overwhelming it can be to get everything aligned and ready. I am glad to hear that the resources on the site have been helpful! For the vaccinations, that’s a really tough call. If you don’t have your childhood vaccinations like Hep A, measles, polio etc, then I would highly recommend that you get them. The thing is, vaccination rates outside of the U.S. are much lower, so although you can go years without contact stateside, if you’re traveling in poor areas then it’s impossible to prevent contact with many of them, and poor sanitation heightens the rise. Hospitals are also scarce, so something like tetanus is far more serious if you’re in a remote part of the Amazon. If you’re just talking about the odd-ball ones, there are several that I’ve opted out of, like rabies and Japanese encephalitis, but ultimately I’ve always found the precaution worth it. Despite being cautious, I nearly died in Laos from a diarrheal illness (dysentery), and it was terrifying to be in a country without any healthcare system. No hospitals, no way to get an IV, just 15 hours of boat to bus to tuk-tuk to get to Thailand. Best of luck! ~S

Thank you for taking the time to write back. :-) Geez! Glad you made it outta there then. Was that from eating something do you think? All these health websites warn against eating from the local markets and that even though that is the kind of food i’d rather have. Always looks and smells yummy. Did you eat much from there or mainly in restaurants? Thanks again! Bernardine

I am fairly certain it was from eating fresh fruit that wasn’t properly washed. As a vegetarian, I sometimes risk things that I know are less safe but I eat them because I lack other options that are safer (like well-cooked meat on a stick or something like that). Often times street food is far safer than a restaurant. The turnover time is faster. They often specialize in a single dish and buy the ingredients fresh every day (as opposed to restaurants that keep a lot of ingredients on hand for weeks). Plus, you can watch them prepare it in front of you. There are easy ways to eat safely, like going to places with a queue, watching how they handle money, and eating at the proper local mealtimes. I give a full rundown how to safely eating streetfood here: https://alittleadrift.com/rtw-travel/#food and Jodi wrote a fantastic post about it here: http://www.legalnomads.com/2016/01/street-food.html Definitely don’t avoid street food when you’re on the road! :)

Thanks for that again Shannon. I’m still in two minds about getting ALL the vaccines they recommend as I’m sure it’s also a money making racket like a lot of things so it’s hard to know for definite. I have my Yellow Fever one and have Malaria tablets and getting the strongest repellent for clothes, net and myself which I will be sure to apply every two hours but still need to decide on the rest of the vaccines. GP is no help either cause they just do their job and say that you need all of them. :-)

I came off the link for the purse recommendation somewhere…and fell in love with your blog post. Cannot wait to read your other posts. I would add in essential oils. I carry them with me when I travel and have been so thankful. I carry the mini bottles filled from my larger ones and can share what I do on my blog with you when I get it done. I have lavender for sleep and skin issues (bug bites, cuts, scrapes & burns), Purification for hotel rooms & bad smelling rooms, Digize and/or Peppermint for aiding in food poisoning or stomach issues, headaches, aches and pains and more.

Hi Sue, so glad you like the site and that you found it useful! And essential oils is a great recommendation — I don’t carry very many with me, but Tea Tree Oil is one that I always have in my bag and it has come in handy countless times. Thanks! :)

Call me if you would like to learn more for simple tips on the basic oils to use on trips. You will wonder how you ever did without them. I have used them countless times when I am unfamiliar with the hospitals and over the counter remedies in a different country. My husband had an interesting time when he ended up in the docs office, after food poisoning, in Japan. He learned the hard way to carry the oils. :)) Poor guy! :(He said he will not be without the basic kit I made for him. You have an awesome day, Shannon!

I am always open to new knowledge if you have an easy list of the ones you always carry with you!

I sure do, here is the list:

1) Thieves 2) Digize 3) Lavender 4) Peppermint 5) Frankincense 6) Stress Away 7) Lemon 8) Copaiba 9) Peace & Calming 10) Purification and of course YL’s awesome Sleepessence capsules for sleeping at night, naturally. If you want to learn more on them, I do personal consults on why, each of them and how I do it for each trip. 763.3seven0.224six I had to spell for them silly crawlers that like to randomly call me. Only 14+ years of experience, with the oils.

Thank you, thank you for the list of oils! My best friend studied oils and introduced me to Thieves, which is incredible. I really appreciate you taking the time to share them and I will definitely contact you in the future if I decide to delve deeper into them. Safe and happy travels! :)

You are so welcome! :) Yes, I love that whole line of Thieves products. So happy you liked it. No issue here, if your best friend is still doing them, by all means head on over to the person. But if you need someone, I am willing to lend a hand. So glad you enjoyed the list.

Such great stuff! I agree with you… here a few extra things I swear by in my travels… – a Microsoft surface tablet (with extra clip on keyboard) — PERFECT for travelling, everything like a normal computer word, PowerPoint as well as kindle, apps like on smartphone, but small, light, easy, great battery life, all the benefits of a normal tablet but with the keyboard it just like a computer, typing is so much easier! I have never had a phone on my travels, just used this (with Skype account to call numbers) and written down numbers and asked to borrow people’s phones when I need to call someone out of wifi reception. – a medium sized strong clip-it lunchbox– sooooo useful! When in your bag you can store things in it ad in use it can be used as a bowl to eat or drink from, or a storage for anything (I use it mainly for food), I take it always in my day bag and whenever I am around places with food and there is an excess I put it I my lunchbox and then have a meal later when I am hungry. Great for example, when you go out to dinner with some friends and you or they do not finish meals, put leftovers away and then you have a meal for later or the next day (a real tip in saving money) – duck tape — my life is two words! Can be used for just about anything from a clothesline to fixing your shoes temporarily, to strap things to you or to other people, to secure things, to hide things, omg I can’t even describe my love for duck tape! – a little, small, light picture book from the place where you are from, this has been so cool in countless situations, whenever you are meeting people and they are interested in where you are from you can just pull it out and give it to them to see (can get from a tourist shop in your home country), everyone who I have showed mine on New Zealand have loved it! – a pillow case, my favourite one from home, gives me a little bit of comfort especially when sleeping in real far out places, and can be filled with clothes to make a pillow, there is nothing worse than not having a pillow to sleep with. I hope this was helpful =)

Some great ideas here Mandy! Duck tape is always in my backpack for those very reasons you mentioned! The rest sound handy for a packing list too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, safe and happy travels.

Microsoft surface pro 3 is what someone just recommended to me with all my traveling I do and it also hooks up to a zyto compass, which I haul around with me. Which the kindle doesn’t have the capibility for that. I was looking for something lightweight and also functional without hauling another laptop! Thanks for the tips on what to do with it.

Is the bag big enough for a DSLR?

Only if you carry a fairly small lens, or perhaps just the camera. I carry a water bottle, my wallet, some odds and ends, and my Panasonic (just one pancake lens on it: pretty easily in the bag, so if you don’t carry full gear + a purse it could work! :) It’s a decent size inside.

i don’t know if that makes a difference, I’m a guy. but for a gift, all i want is an awesome smartphone, with great camera and a backpack with two pair of denim.:)

Hah, fair point John … though I tried to vary the money levels of gifts because my dad would laugh at me if I asked him to buy me a nice camera or an iPhone. Though as you noted, I do love them …especially when paired with Spotify :)

As a gift: a versalette, a piece of clothing you can use in so many ways. So far I use a sarong as towel, skirt, bed sheet, scarf, head cover…

I agree Pauline! I really loved the idea and have met both women. Unfortunately they are no longer making any more of the versalettes, and I was waiting to buy one for a new color, so I missed out! Glad to hear you love it, and that it’s super handy :)

i love reading about other traveler’s favorite products – awesome picks! i’m in the market for a new camera so the Lumix is on top of the list! great pic of Railay by the way – went there last month – WOW so glad i had a chance to experience that beauty! hope it’s ok, i featured a link to your gift list on my blog :-)

I appreciate you including my post in the round-up Alex! The camera is definitely worth checking out too, I love mine dearly and a couple other travel bloggers over the past year have gotten it too and seem to echo my love for it :)

Ha ha ha .. I am laughing aloud by seeing the eyes of Ana while you were nearby her. By the way.. dialing up the phone from the bank looks unique.

Ana is quite the character isn’t she! She made my travels a lot more fun over the past year, thanks for reading Suzanne! :)

The travel gift list shared here in the post are really good for use.. Merry Christmas and Happy holidays……

Thank you! Happy holidays to you as well! :)

Can’t go anywhere without my iphone

Agreed! One of the most multi-tasking, useful items in my bag :)

Capturing the moments every time you travel is one of the things you should never, ever forget. For this reason, camera has been one of the best items you must have whenever you travel. Travel light will always work best-as always. Just bring the essentials and you will definitely enjoy your time.

Thanks Jim, I agree! My camera is one of my prized items, and the other non-essentials just make it more comforting when I travel long-term! :)

Great gift list, unique from a lot of backpacking gifts guides I have seen this holiday season. I agree, traveling lets you realize what you don’t need. It is a liberating feeling.

I tried to think outside of the typical lists, so I appreciate your feedback Stephen. Anything that is a non-essential “must have” for you? :)

I gotta get that purse ;)

In all seriousness, I loved, loved, loved my Kindle, but I have broken three now. Just reading that stuff now on my phone. I am such a bad techie.

I think the purse would look smashing on you Michael :) Sorry to hear about your Kindles, sheesh, that’s tough … and reading on the phone is so tiny no?! Hmm, I think we just need to get you a better case for your next one!

What a great list! It is so easy to take far more than we need when travelling and that, “What would you like for Christmas?” question is an absolute killer. Every year I get given guide books and every year they sit unopened in my wardrobe as I prefer travelling light. I take everything on your list, except the smart phone and the back-up battery. I do get lost a lot, but sometimes that’s fun too!

I agree that getting lost is half the fun! Unfortunately I get lost no matter what I have with me. And if you don’t have a phone, you likely don’t new the backup power. Safe travels!! :)

Can you speak about activating your locally purchased SIM card? I’ve heard a variety of stories on the matter and they unfortunately seem to cancel each other out. I’ve been curious about those card ambitions but the prices can be very ridiculous in certain places in South America.

Thanks a great question Frank, my friends have a tech travel site and talk about SIM cards several times ( https://toomanyadapters.com/?s=sim ) and this one on SEA in partciular: https://toomanyadapters.com/buying-sim-cards-south-east-asia/

I have used a SIM in Laos and Thailand without any issue at all in my unlocked/jailbroken iPhone. :)

Wow, I just reread my comment from last night. I really must of been out of it—hardly makes sense. My apologies. I’m actually leaving in less than two weeks and I’ve put in some long nights piecing together all final items. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve come to your site. Check your analytics — those one hundred 2am hits from an IP in Tampa — yeah, that’s me. Lol. All seriousness, thank you for yet another lead. I will review and get that final todo off my list.

One last thing — totally unrelated and sort of a thank you to you. I’ve noticed that in Chrome your navigation jumps to a second like due to padding. In any case — thought I would send over a quick and easy solution. http://i.imgur.com/d8Wsk.jpg . Some how I’m sure you know how to fix it. But I happen to have all my gadgets open and thought I’d send it anyway

Thank you for that! It wasn’t happening on my browser, and I wouldn’t have known how to fix it. :) I am so glad to hear that the site had been helpful, and that your trip is near! Shoot me an email if there is anything I can help you with before you leave!

No no. Thank you! Yes, if anything comes up I’ll most definitely send you an email. And yes, I just tested again and realized that the padding issue is only on Chrome for Mac. On PC, everything is looking splendid. Sure in the grand scheme of things “Chrome browser+Mac” is the few. :)

fantastic post nice photos

enjoy reading it

I love Spotify Premium. It has replaced my iPod because now I can listen to my favorite songs on my phone or computer without even being online. I think we discussed the camera thing before. I ended up going with the Sony NEX 5N (the 7 is the current one now) and love how compact it is.

Your list is a good reminder that I need to get a back up battery!

I agree! I rarely use iTunes now for anything other than the apps, music all goes through my Spotify. As for the camera, we have talked about the Sony, and I am glad to know that version of the micro is excellent too. I think they all are strong because Jodi has the Olympus, you verify that the Sony is good, and the Lumix is aces. And the battery is a must! Esp if you’re streaming Spotify, that saps my iPhone quickly :)

Great suggestions!!! The pics that camera takes are unreal!

Thanks Andi! I know the DSLRs are higher quality at the end of the day, but I just love the size to image quality ratio of the micro-four-thirds cameras! :)

Welcome to the world of Tripit. I have been using it for a while now and it is an essential part of my travel planning. I love not having to go to a net cafe to print out flight confirmations anymore.

Those bags look great as well. Too bad they don’t cater for dudes though. I’m always on the lookout for good day bags and I would like to see them make a more dudelier version of the bag.

James, do you want a man purse?! I think they should make better man travel bags… you guys need to carry water too! TripIt is so good, and the fact that it stores the information offline=a perfect world. I’ll be on the lookout for a dudely bag for you :)

Noooo, not a man purse, a manly man bag is what I want :p I like the courier style bags like crumpler but their shape is too odd and they don’t have convenient pockets. Thanks for looking out for me :)

Check out this wireless Bluetooth travel eye mask . It has 3D contours around the nose and eyes to keep light out and let her eyes move comfortably (my pet peeve of masks!). She’ll love the soft breathable fabric, which is also good for those suffering from insomnia, migraines or dry eyes. She can relax with her favorite music or white noise through the Bluetooth speakers. Sounds pretty good, right?

Luggage compression cubes are especially handy for business travelers who only fly with carry-on luggage. And they’re super easy to use. Simply pack your clothes as though they’re regular luggage cubes, and then use the extra zipper to compress them.

(Though she’ll likely want a portable steamer, too. See below for ideas!)

29. Travel IRON Business Travel Gift for Her

Travel iron, business travel gift ideas for him

Now, a travel iron isn’t the MOST fun business travel gift for women. But it’s super practical. Especially if your professional business traveler is picky about properly-pressed business clothes and doesn’t always stay at hotels with nice irons. A great compact travel iron with steam is from Steamfast . It heats up quickly and comes with a travel bag.

30. Travel WATER BOTTLE for Women

Reusable water bottle, best gifts for women who travel for business

A reusable water bottle is something she’ll use ALL the time, whether traveling or at home. As a business travel gift for her, choose one that’s clear for going through the airport. And time markers are handy, too, for reminding her to stay hydrated.

31. Reusable STRAWS for Women Who Travel for Business

Reusable straws, best gifts for women who travel for business

While I understand why the world is moving to paper straws, I sure don’t like them. As a sipper, it takes me forever to finish a drink. And by then, my straw has completely disintegrated!

32. SELFIE STICK Travel Gifts for Women

Selfie stick, unique retirement gifts for her, travel gift ideas for women

I’ve certainly lagged behind the trend of selfie sticks , but they can be pretty handy for professional women traveling for work. Beyond saving her the brutal selfies from the “stick your arm out” technique, if you get one that doubles as a tripod, she can get stable videos, too. Ideal if she does any of this for work purposes.

Most selfie sticks work with Apple and Android phones and DSLR cameras, too, and fold up nice and small.

Travel pants, best gifts for women who travel for business

Since I (finally!) discovered the hype around Lululemon’s pants, I’m a believer! Their joggers are so comfy and will help her feel stylish AND comfy while traveling.

My favorite for comfiness is Ready to Rulu, which includes a hidden pocket that holds up to two cards. For those who don’t want to look quite so casual, the Dance Studio joggers are crisper and have an additional hidden zippered pocket.

34. Organic TEA to Soothe Business Travelers

At the end of a long day at work, she’ll be eager to put those tired feet up and sip something warm and delicious. So, top off any business travel gift for her with her favorite tea. If you’re not sure what she likes, go with an organic calming tea .

35. EARPLUGS for Someone Who Travels for Work

Silicone earplugs, best gift ideas for men who travel for work, gifts for students going abroad

I’ll admit that I rolled my eyes when my husband listed earplugs on his top 3 list of business travel essentials. But, my good friend who travels internationally for work agrees. (I’m lucky; I can sleep almost anywhere.) They’re adamant that earplugs saved them many a night’s sleep in not-so-quiet hotels.

So, is it possible to get not-so-uncool earplugs as travel gifts for women? Yes, it is! I found these highly-rated reusable silicone earplugs that come with a portable case. For frequent flyers, a portable luggage scale is a very handy tool to have on trips. Especially if she tends to overpack! But if your professional friend travels with their own hairdryer or straightener, get them a voltage converter . Do warn them to keep and read the instructions first, as they can be a bit more complicated to use. (Maybe encourage them to pack the instructions, too. Just in case.)

A guide to Lake Como's highlights — villas, promenades and aperitivo spots not to miss

The western branch of this northern Italian lake is its highlight, home to romantic villas and revamped waterfront promenades in pretty Como city.

A view of the scenery in lake como. The skies are clear, and the water is calm and blue. A green hill can be seen on one side with colourful villas dotted.

Lake Como conveys notions of easy elegance and the Italian art of slow living, and has come to stand for something bigger than it is. Officially called Lario, Italy ’s third-biggest lake has been drawing visitors since the 18th century, when it was a popular stop for European nobles on their grand tours. More recently, it stepped into the spotlight as the backdrop for films including Ocean’s Twelve and Casino Royale . But the lake’s prestige dates to Roman times, when Julius Ceasar drained a swamp at its southwestern end, strategically located near Alpine passes, and funded the creation of a city known as Novum Comum.

It laid the foundation for Como, the main hub to this day and the reason why the lake is commonly known as Como. This spring is the best time to visit the city in over a decade, as sections of its waterfront sidewalks, which had been cordoned off for expansion since 2008, are once again open to walkers. The centre is dominated by the azure dome of the Duomo di Como , one of the last gothic cathedrals built in the country. Behind it is Teatro Sociale , and to one side is the shopping street of Via Vittorio Emanuele II. It’s a good place to pick up a souvenir: mulberry trees were planted on Lake Como’s hills in the 15th century, and boutiques like A Picci sell handkerchiefs and scarves using their silk.

Next to the shop, Via Lambertenghi leads to Via Alessandro Volta , named after the physicist credited as the inventor of the electric battery. The townhouse where he was born in 1745 is marked with a plaque, and around it are some of the most coveted addresses of the time. This is not least thanks to their giardini pensili — gardens built on the Roman walls that once guarded the city centre.

Equally evocative is Passeggiata Lino Gelpi , between the lake and shorefront private gardens. The path’s name pays tribute to the 19th-century mayor who reclaimed a strip of land from villa owners to pave Como’s most scenic public footpaths. It’s a front-row spot from which to watch the lake’s seaplanes land, and it’s especially lovely in spring, when wisteria blooms along the banks.

Continue walking along the waterside road for half an hour to Cernobbio , one of the lake’s most popular resorts. Local Comaschi come to eat at Harry’s Bar , in a piazza by the shore; it serves whitefish from the lake, but the pick is the sole meuniere, floured and pan fried to crispy perfection. Alternatively, taxis wind up the hillside to Il Gatto Nero . It serves specialities from the surrounding region, such as ravioli with ossobuco and saffron, and has become popular among visiting celebrities thanks to its view of the lake.

For a different perspective, take to the water. Ferries link Como to the Alto Lago (‘High Lake’), its northernmost shore. But, if budget allows, the transport mode of choice are Riva runabouts . High-end hotels offer private rides on these mahogany speedboats as part of their activity programmes. Otherwise, companies like Como Classic Boats pick visitors up from almost any hamlet with a dock.

Among the most prettiest is Torno , on the western shore, with red-tiled roofs and a waterfront bell tower. It’s opposite Passalaqua ; built in the 18th century for a scion of local nobility, this villa was crowned the world’s top hotel by The World’s 50 Best in 2023, a year after opening. A glimpse is all you’ll get, as only guests are allowed in, but as an alternative visit Villa d’Este , the lake’s historic grand dame hotel. Further down the shores, highlights include Villa Carlotta and neoclassical Villa del Balbianello , which juts out on a promontory in Ossuccio.

A former fishing community, Ossuccio is also a gateway to Isola Comacina and UNESCO-listed Sacro Monte di Ossuccio , 14 chapels leading to a hillside sanctuary. From its waterfront, the view is a snapshot of what makes Lake Como so alluring: the unassuming hamlets next to larger-than-life villas, and the green, wooded hills sloping down to the deep-blue water. In the distance, always in view, are the Alps. From the Roman Empire to modern-day Hollywood, it’s a scene that’s charmed through the ages.

3 highlights not to miss in Lake Como

1. Teatro Sociale Como’s 19th-century theatre has always had a special affinity with the opera. This summer, it’ll join other venues across the country in marking 100 years since the death of Giacomo Puccini with an open-air production of Turandot, the composer’s final masterpiece.

2. Villa Carlotta The 20-acre botanical garden of Villa Carlotta is a much-loved retreat on the lake. There are monumental trees, a citrus tunnel and a path among the ferns, but it’s most famous for its azaleas, which bloom into full cushions of red, white and pink for a few weeks each May.

3. Isola Comacina The lake’s only island is mostly uninhabited, but its trails lead past olives, lindens and laurels, as well as houses for short-term artists in residence. Every June, the popular San Giovanni Festival reenacts a fire that devastated the island in the 12th century with a red-tinted firework display.

The coffee empire debuted three new Summer-Berry Refreshers ® — the basic Summer-Berry Refreshers ® Beverage which features a "blend of raspberry, blueberry and blackberry flavors shaken with ice," the Summer-Berry Lemonade Starbucks Refreshers ® Beverage which has the added addition of lemonade and the Summer Skies Drink, a non-dairy drink that features Summer-Berry Refreshers creamy coconut milk over ice — all of which have raspberry-flavored boba pearls as well.

They also released their 2024 summer cups earlier this week , which features 14 new designs in tropical colors and pretty pastels.

With everything from a collapsible water bottle perfect for packing on the go-to, to the brand's standard tumbler in a new color with a matching keychain and a specialty sunset-themed Stanley, Starbucks' latest line certainly captures that fresh, sunny aesthetic June, July and August seems to exude.

And as dedicated Starbuckgoers know, "any Starbucks Rewards members who bring a clean, personal cup will earn 25 stars in addition to 10 cents off their beverage." This goes for customers who order in-store, on the Starbucks app or through the drive-thru.

Here's everything we know about the 14 new designs you can look forward to scoring, how much you can expect to pay and where you're most likely to find them.

light blue swirl cold cups and keychain

The Light Blue Swirl Cold Cups (16 oz, $19.95 and 24 oz, $22.95) have a pastel blue design with a sparkly sheen and straw with a crystallized design that conjure up images of the glistening waters reflecting the bright hot sun while you're sitting poolside. And the adorable matching keychain ($12.95) "adds fun seasonal flair to any key ring."

starbucks 2024 summer lime green collapsible water bottle

Keep hydrated wherever you go with the Lime Green Collapsible Water Bottle (24 oz, $12.95). It's easy to spot and easy to store — win-win!

starbucks 2024 summer lilac drink thru tumbler

starbucks 2024 summer canna lily butterfly hot and cold cup

The Canna Lily Butterfly Hot & Cold Cup (24 oz, $27.95) celebrates the "beauty of nature" with a gorgeous butterfly design that uses shades of blue, purple and green on the cup, lid and straw.

starbucks 2024 summer sunset gradient starbucks x stanley quencher

Nothing quite beats a summer sunset (or even a sunrise, we're not picky!) and nothing quite beats this Sunset Gradient Starbucks x Stanley Quencher (40 oz, $54.95). This hefty cup has an ombre sunset design that starts with a light yellow at the top and quickly transforms to burnt orange then a reddish pink at the bottom, with a hot pink straw and handle.

starbucks 2024 summer light green jeweled cold cup

starbucks 2024 summer gray twist to sip water bottle

starbucks 2024 reusable dome lid cold cup set
