5 Things to Do in Cabo San Lucas

los arcos rock formations

On a getaway cruise to Baja California, spend 24 hours in stunning Cabo San Lucas . Blessed with towering rocks, sun-drenched beaches, remote bays, and an abundance of marine life, Cabo San Lucas is wildly beautiful and overflowing with options for enjoying your time there. Travellers looking to explore the wonders of Cabo San Lucas have several itineraries available to them through Princess Cruises.

Here are five things to do in Cabo San Lucas to experience the gifts nature bestowed upon this popular destination.

Cabo is positioned between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, known as the "world's aquarium," a title coined by underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau. It boasts many spectacular beaches, including Playa El Medano.

Whether you're interested in snorkelling or jet skiing while on your Mexican cruise holiday, Medano Beach is a great place to do so. When visitors have had their fill of daytime dalliances, they often walk over to the beach side nightclubs and fine restaurants for an evening of sensational entertainment.

Pelican Rock, Santa Maria Bay, and Chileno Bay are also great for snorkelling, as the waters there are teeming with marine life. Cabo Pulmo offers exceptional snorkelling, and it's home to the only living coral reef in the region.

If scuba diving is on your list of things to do in Cabo , try the Sand Falls at San Lucas Bay, just five minutes from the Cabo marina. At another famous site, Land's End, you can see the sea lion colony up close. This rugged rock formation is located on the southernmost tip of the baja, and it continues to draw locals and tourists alike. Land's End is one of the prime locations for sea lions to congregate, making it a unique place to discover for animal lovers and nature enthusiasts.

There are many opportunities to go out on a boat during your getaway cruise to Cabo San Lucas. Rent a fishing boat, spend a day sailing, go whale watching from a 15-person zodiac, or step aboard a luxury yacht for a cruise on the Sea of Cortez. With most of these excursions, you also can take time out to snorkel.

Not only is Playa El Medano great for swimming and sunning, it also offers horses for rent on the beach. Plan it right, and you could be viewing the sunset as you ride. For a more secluded ride, head for the Pacific side of Cabo, or explore above the golf course for a ride that offers desert and mountain trails, as well as spectacular ocean views. See the sights from the saddle with this great Cabo San Lucas activity!

Cabo San Lucas isn't all tranquil beaches and crystalline waters. Part of the surrounding Baja Peninsula area has a rougher landscape — ideal for going off-road in an ATV or a 4x4 for a thrilling desert "safari." Hit the hills, drive along the secluded sandy beaches, and enjoy spectacular vistas at every turn.

Another way to see the natural wonders of Cabo San Lucas is from above on a zip line excursion through the Sierra Lagunas. Travel across the canyons of Boca de Sierra on a series of zip lines for amazing views of the pristine landscapes. You can also rappel off cliffs, climb a rock wall, and cross suspended bridges. Some would argue that zip lining is the best way to see the sights from a bird's eye view. If zip lining is on your bucket list, make it one of the things you do in Cabo.

Dolphins are friendly, playful and entertaining, and travellers have the chance to get up close and personal with these renowned sea mammals at the Cabo Dolphin Centre. The facility is conveniently located at Land's End and provides several educational activities for adults and children alike. Visitors have the opportunity to take a closer look at the dolphins after they display their agility and swimming skills during shows hosted at the venue. At the Cabo Dolphin Centre, you'll also find a lounge style restaurant and a modern boutique shop.

A day of outdoor adventure and communing with nature makes a person hungry and thirsty. Cabo San Lucas is also known for its fabulous restaurants, trendy bars, and vibrant nightlife. After a long day of exploring things to do in Cabo San Lucas, your only problem may be trying to narrow down your choice of eateries!

When you need to take a break, consider taking a getaway cruise to Cabo San Lucas for the perfect blend of natural and man-made wonders.

A day ending in Y?

Tuesnesday?

Without any more information, it's impossible to answer your query. However, in the spirit of teaching you to fish versus handing you one already filleted, here are some guidelines: formal nights are never on embarkation day or on the last evening. That leaves you three nights. Of those three, are you at sea all day on one of them? If so, that's the most likely formal night. If no sea days, which port departure is the earliest? That would be your second more likely suspect. If you're in port until 11pm on every single night, *shrug,* you'll just have to wait and be surprised.

Well, then. Embarkation is on Monday, at sea Tuesday, arrive in Cabo for an overnight on Wednesday, departs from Cabo at noon on Thursday, at sea Friday, and arrives back in San Pedro on Saturday. So, I guess the formal could be on Tuesday or Thursday. Thanks.

You will be able to find out on the first day of your cruise. The first Patter you get will have it listed.

I think it will likely be the Tuesday though!

Thanks you for a useful reply.

We have 5 night Cabo many times. I would agree that Tuesday would be your day in this case.

Sorry Night.

Neverbeenhere, since you've done that cruise many times, what kind of atmosphere/passenger demographic is on the ship? I've done many 7 and 10 day, but never a 5 day.

Most times it has been a standard Princess cruise. BUT there will almost always be a large group or large family on the cruise. Bud Light and Coors are very popular. Los Angeles and the surrounding area will be the dominate people aboard. Formal night will bring a variety of dress styles.- From Pu(i)mps(Edited for Cruise Critic) to Pros to dungarees. :)

Again, thank you.

I've done this cruise and found that 5 night cruises are more informal. In your cruise personalizer there should be a statement under calendar and planning if you have a formal night. They did away with formal nights on the 4 night cruises. It will NEVER be the last night because you're asked to leave your luggage packed outside your door for those not doing self debarkation.

Just jumping in here, as we were just on the Ruby. My daughter said that the Youth Lounge staff told them that on the 5-day Cabo cruise this week, there were going to be 133 teens on board! That's only teens from 13-17. I'm sure there will be lots of kiddies in the 12 and under group too.

To compare, there were only 36 teens on our 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise.

cruzn fun

Last year the formal night was on a Tuesday the 2nd night at sea :)

Princess likes to do the formal night on the first sea day which in the OP's case will be Tuesday. There may be a lot of kids aboard depending if they will be out of school when you are cruising. Dress code on the 5 day cruises out of the west coast tends to be informal even on formal night.

Pam in CA

I confirmed last night with a friend who boarded the Ruby yesterday for the 5-day cruise that formal night is the second night; the first full sea day.

Don’t think there will be a lot of kids on the 2/26/18 cruise as in this area (LA and Orange County), this week is President’s Week vacation, not next week.

Los Angeles, California, United States

Cruise from Sunny Los Angeles

There's no better way to start your cruise vacation to Mexico than by exploring the star-studded streets of Los Angeles . This city has plenty to offer as a starting point for your cruise expedition. Kick off your vacation by visiting Venice Beach, where you can people-watch along the boardwalk or bike or roller skate along the bike lane. Try to spot a celebrity out shopping along Rodeo Drive or visit a world-class theme park before boarding your ship. Plan on spending a day or two exploring your starting port of call and all it offers.

Ports of Call Along the Mexican Riviera

A cruise along Mexico's famed west coast will include stops at several ports of call on the way, from Ensenada in the north to Puerto Vallarta in the south and everywhere in between. No matter which port you're visiting, you'll have the opportunity to swim in crystal-clear water, stroll along white-sand beaches while basking in the sunshine, and explore the area with a variety of shore excursions.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Located just south of Los Angeles across the Mexican border, Ensenada is a port that offers the perfect blend of American and Mexican culture. Ensenada is considered part of the Pacific Coast's wine country, so you can participate in a wine-tasting session while enjoying a gourmet lunch. Take a scenic drive to La Bufadora, a blowhole that has fascinated tourists for generations, or try your luck at the Riviera del Pacifico resort and casino, which was established in the 1930s and keeps travelers eager to test their luck and skill at a variety of table games.

Cabo San Lucas

At Cabo San Lucas , you step into the world of the rich and famous, experiencing a port filled with luxury resorts and gated communities. Opportunities for water sports abound in Cabo, including the chance to parasail, kayak, and snorkel. Be sure to snap a photo at the famous arch rock formation located at the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California, where the Pacific Ocean becomes the Gulf of California. Animal lovers can enjoy a swim with dolphins or hop aboard a whale-watching tour. Adventure awaits around every corner in Cabo San Lucas.

Mazatlán is all about breathtaking scenery, rugged terrain, and a rich cultural history that's evident in everything from the architecture to the cuisine. Visit Old Mazatlán, a 19th-century cathedral with a gilded ceiling, or take a peek inside Teatro Angela Peralta, originally built in 1874 and completely restored to its classic design. You can't miss a hike up to El Faro, a 19th-century lighthouse perched high atop a mountain that offers exceptional views to any adventurers up for the challenge. For a guided experience, book the Best of Mazatlán excursion to ensure you don't miss a thing.
