I cannot rave enough about the Sainte Genevieve Riverboat! I went on the riverboat for my friend's 40th birthday this fall and it was the BEST experience ever! We did the unlimited mimosas and brunch from 10:30-12:30. The mimosas were fantastic and the food was delicious! They had so much to offer from donuts, cinnamon rolls, brownies, croissants, cheeses, bacon and sausage sandwiches, etc. We were over the moon with what they offered on the brunch cruise. The service was quick and friendly. The boat itself had dining options inside and outside. We sat on the upper deck and it was the perfect spot to take in all of the beautiful fall colors and views. We also saw so many bald eagles on our boat tour as well. If you haven't been on this riverboat tour, you're missing out. I cannot wait to go again!!

We just went on the Sunday morning brunch cruise yesterday and absolutely loved it! All the staff on board were kind and welcoming and appeared to all truly love what they do. The buffet brunch was catered by the Lone Buffalo and it was huge and delicious - veggie quiche, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, bacon, and a variety of baked goods. Our party had a mimosa and tasty Tangled Roots beers as well. The riverboat, especially the bar and bathrooms, is beautifully remodeled. I think we were just a little early to catch the fall leaves, but we saw some bald eagles and other great scenery. I would definitely take this cruise again!

This was a beautiful evening on a cute little paddle boat. The staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the entertainment and the bar offerings were delicious and priced well. I will recommend this experience to friends and can't wait to visit again.

We spotted the riverboat from the road on the way to Starved Rock and booked the Sunday cruise. It was the perfect way to unwind after hiking. We had a wonderful evening ride down the River watching the sun set and hearing some local history. Light snacks provided and drinks are available for a good price. The crew couldn't have been nicer!! Highly recommend you come support this small local business!!

Ottawa IL cruise port

Region Canada and USA Rivers

Local Time 2024-05-25 20:11

Port Ottawa IL cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Ottawa IL, Illinois. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Ottawa IL is an Illinois River/Mississippi River cruise port and city in Illinois USA (LaSalle County) with population around 19,000. Downtown Ottawa is at the confluence of two rivers (Illinois and Fox). Ottawa is approx 80 mi / 130 km to the southwest of downtown Chicago (Illinois' largest and the USA's 3rd-largest city - after NYC New York and LA California ) on Lake Michigan.

As cruise port, Ottawa IL is included in the schedule of AQV-American Queen Voyages/fka AQSC-American Queen Steamboat Company .

Next table shows AQV ship's American Countess itinerary (8-night/9-day "Ottawa to St Louis Cruise Tour"/and the reverse) that starts or ends in Ottawa. Complimentary shore excursions are provided in all visited ports/cities.

The voyage is priced from ~US$3600 per person.

Ottawa IL's economy is largely based on glass and abrasives making (including automotive glass manufacturing) due to the region's large silica sand deposits (extracted from several quarries).

The city's many registered historic homes and landmarks and the Starved Rock State Park (2630 acres / 10,64 km2 / 4,1 mi2 / 1064 hectares) make it a popular destination for domestic tourism. Located southeast of Utica (Deer Park Township), Starved Rock runs along the Illinois River's south bank and is annually visited by 2+ million people.

Illinois River

Illinois River is one of the Mississippi's principal tributaries and has length ~ 273 mi (439 km). Illinois River originates in Chicago (Lake Michigan), flowing to the southwest across Illinois and emptying into the Mississippi River near Grafton. In the 18th-19th-centuries, the Illinois River has always been an important trade waterway connecting the Mississippi with Lake Michigan (the Great Lakes ). The river's importance for commercial shipping increased since the opening (in 1848) of the "Illinois and Michigan Canal" (length 96 mi / 154 km) connecting with the Chicago River and running between Chicago IL (Bridgeport neighborhood) and LaSalle IL. The Canal's transportation operations ceased in 1900 when was opened the "Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal"/aka Chicago Drainage Canal (length 28 mi / 45 km) connecting the rivers Chicago and Des Plaines. With the Chicago Drainage Canal (1907-extended), the Chicago River's flow was reversed (now out of Lake Michigan).

In 1933 was completed and opened of the Illinois Waterway (length 336 mi / 541 km) connecting Calumet River (Chicago) and the Illinois River (Grafton). The waterway has 8x locks, the upper/first one (T.J. O'Brien lock and dam in Chicago IL) is approx 7 mi / 11 km from Lake Michigan, while the lower/last one (LaGrange lock and dam in Beardstown IL) is 90 mi / 140 km from the Mississippi. The other 6 locks and dams are in the IL's towns Lockport (Lockport), Joliet (Brandon Road), Morris (Dresden Island), Marseilles (Marseilles), North Utica (Starved Rock) and Peoria (Peoria).

The Best River Cruises In North America You Have To Try

Posted: December 11, 2023 | Last updated: April 25, 2024

Love the thought of a boat-based exploration of North America but don’t fancy heading out to sea? We recommend exploring its rivers and lakes instead, which is why we’ve taken a closer look at the best river and lake cruises for anyone keen to gain a fascinating new perspective on America’s inland waterways.

Say hello to one of America’s most spectacular lake cruises. Your mode of transport for this sail across Lake Tahoe will be the M.S Dixie II – the lake’s biggest boat. The sunset dinner cruises are popular with couples, although we recommend the scenic daytime tours, which are a great way to explore North America’s largest alpine lake. This high-altitude body of water spreads into two states (California and Nevada), contains enough water to cover California with 14 inches of water and is deeper than the Empire State Building is tall.

2 dead and 5 missing after a boat collision on the Danube River in Hungary

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Police say two people have died and five are missing following a boat collision on the Danube River in Hungary.

Hungarian police received a report late Saturday night that a man had been found with a head injury on the shore of the Danube near the town of Veroce, around 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of the capital, Budapest. The bodies of a man and a woman were later discovered nearby.

Hours after police began their search, they discovered a damaged boat in the water, which they towed to shore. They are still searching for five adults — three men and two women — who they believe were on the boat.

Police said they determined that a river cruise boat had been in the area at the time of the accident. They stopped a cruise boat with a damaged hull near the town of Komarom, more than 50 miles (80 kilometers) further upriver.

Hungarian public television station M1 reported that the cruise boat, Heidelberg, is a 109-meter (357-foot) Swiss craft that can accommodate 110 people. No passengers on that boat sustained injuries, M1 said.

The Danube at Veroce is roughly 1,500 feet (460 meters) wide and is in the center of an area called the Danube Bend where the river makes a sweeping, nearly 90-degree turn to the south. The area is a popular recreational and boating destination and is on a route often used by cruise boats between Budapest and the Austrian capital, Vienna, some 140 miles (230 kilometers) upriver.

The deadly accident comes five years after at least 27 people were killed in Budapest when a river cruise boat collided with a smaller tourist vessel , sinking it in seconds.

The tourist boat Hableany, carrying 35 people who were mostly South Korean tourists, was overtaken from behind by the much larger cruise boat, Viking Sigyn, beneath Budapest’s Margit Bridge, in May 2019.

The Ukrainian captain of the Viking Sigyn was last year found guilty of negligence leading to a fatal mass catastrophe and sentenced to five years and six months in prison. He has appealed the decision.

Police on Sunday said they have initiated criminal proceedings against an unknown perpetrator on suspicion of endangering water transport and causing the death of several people.

A spokesperson for the Directorate General for Disaster Management told Hungarian news agency MTI that a group of nearly 90 people from several regional disaster management agencies were conducting the search for the missing from the land, water and sky.

Twelve boats and three drones are involved in the search, and two rescue divers are also involved, Imre Doka said.
