Dubai Safari Park – A Great Wildlife Project

Dubai Safari Park, located in Al Warqa’a is another jewel in the crown of the happening city. Opened on 12th of December 2017 the Dubai Safari Park promises to be an affordable and economical recreational option for all. This project replaces the 50-year-old zoo in Jumeirah. Lack of space and adverse conditions of the Dubai Zoo was a point of main concern which led to this initiative. The safari park now houses the existing animals from the Jumeirah Zoo plus new ones. This massive wildlife project consists of 250 species, including endangered species.

Some of the critically endangered species were announced to be a part of an international breeding program involving the breeding of animals to send them to other zoos or to be released into the wild.  There is now a total of more than 2,500 animals with a planned addition of approximately 2,500 more. The area of the safari park is spread over 120 hectares of land, which has been divided into five villages.

Table of Contents

The Safari Village

This is not your conventional zoo where you only get to view the animals lounging around in their cages or small enclosures created for them. You now get to view them in a more natural habitat.

For a tour of the safari village, an air-conditioned car specially designed for the tour will give you a classic, close-up view of the exotic animals and their lifestyles. Consider it an escapade into the jungles of Africa and Asia, where you can behold lush, tropical forest sights. Animals inhabiting the Safari Village include bears, baboons, water buffaloes, zebras, and deer. You can witness the majestic brown lions soaking up the sun, cheetahs on their racing tracks and tigers in their enclosure with the splendid, gurgling waterfalls to keep them cool.

Dubai Safari Park

You get to view the crocodiles at close-quarters in the world’s first drive-through hypo-aquarium, giving you better look at the formidable reptilian creatures. Other attractions include brown bears, a bird theatre with 6 shows and feeding areas for giraffes. An expedition of this region of the Safari Park can take anywhere from 45 to 120 minutes.

The Arabian Village

Now let’s enter the region that constitutes the Arabian village Arabian village. This tract of land consists of sandy deserts, and rocky mountains, and the steppe showing you the Arabian habitat landscape surrounding the wildlife. A steppe is a vast area of barren land without any plantation except for shrubs.  A luxuriant meadow filled with a great variety of flora and fauna is a welcome sight. Populating this territory you will meet Arabian wolves, Antelopes, and Nilgais. Nilgai is the largest Asian Antelope.

Step onto a train crossing through the Arab village and watch the horses, birds, ostriches and falcons enjoying their day. It will take about 20 to 25 minutes to…

African Village

Moving to the African region of the park which welcomes you with a set of the African savannas and rainforest, gives you feel of the real African landscapes. Here you will be greeted by the giant tortoises, chimpanzees, hyenas, flamingos, African wild dogs and the regal white lions. Even in this village, you can take the train or Safari car to ride around and enjoy the animals. There are four stops where you can walk and watch the white lions ready to play through the glass walls, plus gorillas, pygmy hippos, lemur, bongo and okapi which is one of the endangered species that the forest is breeding. The ride around this section of the park will take somewhere between 90 to 140 minutes.

Asian Village

Here in the Asian village the scenery, the environment, the landscape is all set to reflect the Asian forests. You can take a walk along the dense trees of the enclosure and witness the beautiful Asian creatures. This will require at around 30 to 90 minutes of your time. The species to see here are the Komodo Dragons, Moon Bears and Gibbons. Along with these, there are elephants, pandas and monkeys and a variety of birds and reptiles.

The Children’s Farm

Visiting the Dubai safari park with children, you just cannot miss out on the most adventurous section of the park. Close to the park’s entrance is the children’s corner specially designed to keep the children involved. This is an educational spot where children can learn about farm animals, their importance and how to take care of them. The farm features farm animals such as sheep, cows, goats and chickens. Activities involve collecting milk and eggs and riding ponies.

Wadi Village

Of course, no tourist spot is complete without eateries.  The Wadi village offers you a relaxing spot which has water streams flowing through it and fishing ponds all powered by solar energy. After the tour, you can relax in the green valley and treat yourself to the delicious foodstuff being offered by the restaurants and eateries.

Special Features

The park has special facilities to maintain a suitably cool environment for the animals. Air-conditioned rocks, misting fans and chilled and chilled pools have been installed all over the park. There is a large theatre that can accommodate up to 1,000 people. This theatre host shows featuring different animals. They have eco-friendly vehicles for touring. This park features a UAE’s biggest walk-through aviary in the African village and the first drive-through hippo and tiger exhibit. They introduced the world’s first drive-through crocodile exhibit.

Dubai Safari Park Location Map

The Safari Park, located opposite Dragon Mart on Hatta Road in Al Warqa’a 5 is open to the public from 9 am to 7 p.m. However the tickets stop selling at 5 p.m. or when the park was filled to capacity. The tickets are available for purchase from the main building of the park or you can here +971 800 900  to book your tickets on phone. The ticket prices are as follows: For full access to all areas of the park, obtain a combo ticket at 85 AED for adults and 30 AED for children.

For entry to all areas except the Safari Village obtain the Dubai Safari Park Ticket at 50 AED for adults and 20 AED for children (The same ticket prices apply if you only wish to visit the Safari village).

There is free entry for the elderly above the age of 60, for children below 3 years of age and people with special needs (accompanied by 2 people).

Future attractions

There are plans to introduce about 2,000 more animals, Australian and South African villages, veterinary, zoo-keeping and conservation courses to educate people and bring awareness among them regarding wildlife. The park was closed on 15 May 2017 for further up gradation and is expected to re-open in the month October with more features. Let’s see what surprises are in-store after the embellishment program is complete.

Once you purchase San Diego Zoo Safari Park tickets , they get delivered to your email address.

There is no need to get printouts of the ticket.

The tram takes a 4 km (2.5 miles) long route through San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s field habitats, and you get to see herds of giraffes, flocks of exotic birds, crashes of rhinos, etc.

African Tram Safaris start from the African Outpost at 10 am and continue 45 minutes before the park closes.

A visit to San Diego Safari Park is a costly undertaking.

If money isn’t an issue, and you have time, go for them.

Let us discuss the facilities offered by Safari Park in Karachi in more detail.

It is a rare experience to view wildlife in their natural setting. For children and students this is a great learning opportunity. There are about 600 species of animals and birds kept in large enclosures so that the animals do not feel confined otherwise kept in a small cage. The animals freely roam inside the enclosure.

Visitors can take a bus ride to view ostriches and deer running at free will. The thrilling jolt of discovery at spotting a zebra or a giraffe in the wilderness is what defines the safari experience at Safari Park in Karachi.

Apart from the exciting safari experience, kids can also enjoy various rides at the amusement park. You can purchase a ride by entering some tokens. Go Aish Theme Park, which is temporarily closed at the moment, is also one of the highlights of the park. It has rope climbing, zip line, quad biking and a mini golf course. It was a major attraction before the authorities decided to close it down for some renovations. It is expected that Go Aish Theme Park will open up soon.

Nothing can beat the pleasure of viewing white swans wading their way through the lake water at Safari Park in Karachi. Children and adults gather around Swan Lake and feed the white birds with some popcorn and bread. To thoroughly enjoy the safari experience and to make it easy for the visitors to spot animals in the natural setting, bus and train rides are available. Book a seat in the bus at PKR 30 and it will take you through Gate number 1 and 2. Monkey, lama, zebra, neil cow, deer can be seen roaming freely in the meadows. Although there are no maps to direct where the wildlife enclosures are, these bus and train rides are quite helpful.

Kashmir Point

If you want to experience viewing the beautiful valleys of Kashmir in Karachi, then you must visit the newly built Kashmir Point in Safari Park. It is built over a 4-acre area, where water cascades down a 210 feet high mountainous slope. The views are breathtaking, to say the least. Kashmir Point is an ideal picnic spot. It was recently inaugurated by the Mayor of Karachi.

Live safari trains are not available before 2 PM. However, you can pay PKR 600 for a 30 seater bus, irrespective of the passenger count, and avail the safari experience via train after 10 AM in the morning. If you can wait a bit, then all you need to do is pay only PKR 30 and go on a safari tour. During the live safari tour, you can go only up to Gate no. 2 and Gate no. 3 is closed.

The best entertaining feature is the elephant enclave in which you can pay the trainer PKR 50 and go inside the enclave and take pictures with the elephant. Children enjoy the experience and remember it for a lifetime.

Future Projects for Safari Park in Karachi

Renovations and upgrades are underway for one of the largest family parks in Karachi. It is expected that a large aviary will be constructed inside the park, where rare species of birds will be imported and kept. Boating will also be introduced in the Swan Lake. A camping site is being developed, which will cover around 300 acres of land. A one-of-its-kind museum will be set up comprising endangered birds and details of those bird species that are now extinct.

Ticket Prices of Safari Park in Karachi

The entrance ticket price of Safari Park is quite minimal. You can enter the premises by paying a meagre amount of PKR 30 per head, which includes adults and children both. Be prepared to pay a few extra bucks once inside the park. You might be required to pay PKR 30 more to avail the bus ride which takes you through the Safari Park.

The trainer at the Elephant Enclave also needs to be paid an additional PKR 50 for taking snaps with the elephant inside its cage. Overall, you can experience viewing wild animals in their natural habitat at a small cost.

Woburn Safari Park welcomes first pup of vulnerable otter species

Posted: 30 January 2024 | Last updated: 30 January 2024

Woburn Safari Park has announced the arrival of a female Asian short-clawed otter pup, a member of a species vulnerable to extinction.

The pup was born to first-time mother Beatrix and father Kovu in the Bedfordshire park.

Being a member of the smallest otter species, the tiny pup weighed only about 50 grams at birth eight weeks ago, roughly the size of a golf ball.

Keepers were listening attentively for the pup’s squeaks when they suspected Beatrix had given birth in the pair’s secluded den back in December.

They left the parents to their independent pup-rearing for around six weeks, ensuring they were undisturbed during the important bonding time before performing health checks.

The pup is expected to start eating solid food in just a few weeks and to begin swimming very soon, under the careful guidance of her parents.

Keepers hope the pup will be joined by siblings, as Beatrix was brought to the park from Flamingo Land last year as a potential mate for male Kovu, and the pair have been inseparable ever since.

The park has called the birth a “vitally important success in Asian short-clawed otter breeding”, as the species is classed as vulnerable to extinction out in the wild due to habitat destruction and pollution.

The park warned that Asian short-clawed otters are also threatened by the exotic pet trade, which has accelerated in recent years due to viral videos on TikTok of these otters being kept as pets, it said.

The British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums warns that engaging with this material online contributes to the perception that these animals can be kept as pets and may increase the numbers of otters being poached in the wild to be sold into the illegal pet trade.

Woburn Safari Park said the conservation of this species is vital to ensure their future.

It added that the birth could help to educate the public about otter conservation and the importance of enriching and natural lifestyles for otters in captivity.

Visitors can spot the pup, Beatrix and Kovu at their purpose-built Otter Falls enclosure at Woburn Safari Park.

It was constructed in 1532 by order of Tsar Vasily III to commemorate the birth of his son and heir, Ivan the Terrible. But there is a lot more to see in the park: the pretty Church of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan – with its bright azure domes and plenty of gold. Further into the park there is a charming Church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist, built by Ivan the Terrible to mark his coronation.

Kuskovo Park

Kuskovo Park is one of the oldest country estates in Moscow. It was given to General Sheremetev by Peter the Great in 1715, but was left to fall into neglect before being plundered by Napoleon’s troops in 1812. Nowadays the estate has been restored to its former glory and is a good example of Russian 18th Century imperial architecture. The palace is a fine and rare example of wooden neoclassicism. It was completed in 1775, and the rich interiors remain unchanged since 1779. It includes a room hung with exclusive exquisite Flemish tapestries, an abundance of silk wallpaper and an impressive collection of 18th century European and Russian paintings. The palace looks onto the lake, which is surrounded by smaller pavilions: pretty Italian, Dutch and Swiss Cottages, Blank’s Hermitage and the old Orangery, where the State Ceramics Museum is located now, an extensive and absorbing collection of porcelain from the 18th century to the present day. On the other side of the lake is a large wood popular with local cyclists and joggers.

The time a monkey went on the loose for 17 days in Shropshire

A monkey that went missing in Scotland for five days, did not last as long in its bid for freedom as the time a monkey escaped from the West Midlands Safari Park more than 30 yeas ago.

safari park timing

Honshu, the Japanese macaque was recaptured in the Cairngorms on Thursday after escaping Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig earlier this week.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's drone team observed the animal until he was shot with a tranquiliser dart and taken back to the park.

But the primate's time on the run did not last as long as when a monkey nicknamed The Artful Dodger made a bid for freedom from West Midlands Safari Park in 1990.

Back then the Bewdley attraction had a drive-through monkey jungle, and the mutinous monkey was able to slip out and escaped the confines of the park.

A monkey hotline was set up for locals to report any sightings.

Amazingly, the cheeky creature wasn't found for 17 days, after it had made it all the way to Bridgnorth - more than 26 miles away.

The Artful Dodger was eventually found after being spotted on the roof of Star Aluminium (now Bridgnorth Aluminium) in the town's Stourbridge Road and was returned safely to the safari park.

Do you remember Artful Dodger's time at large? Why not get in touch with [email protected]

TOP-11 Moscow Parks to Visit

I have chosen the best 11 Moscow parks to visit and spend a beautiful time for you. Do not miss and choose one that you like the most – cycling, festivals, flowers, panoramic views and many other things are waiting for you!

Gorky Park (The Central Park of Culture and Leisure) – The main one of the Moscow Parks

In my opinion this park could be called the main park of the city. Why? Because of its huge territory, the central location and the amount of people visiting the park daily.  It was founded in 1928 and in 2011 it was totally reconstructed. Now it pleases visitors with modern objects and soft green lawns.

  • Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 9

The Gorky park is a the right choice for everyone! The youth will like a free WiFi, bicycles, skateboards and other rentals; the couples will enjoy spending time near the river, watching a sunset; parents will appreciate colorful playgrounds and a room for mother and child. Everyone can find something for themselves: from yoga classes  to watching movies in a cozy summer cinema, from dance classes to volleyball playground. Gorky Park is also the venue for all kinds of exhibitions, festivals, events for children and adults. During the winter there is one of the biggest skating rinks in the park.

Museon Art Park – A Second Gorky they say

“Museon” is located on the opposite side of Krimsky Val street. And right now some people believe that Gorky and Museon together is a one space sharing the same beauty.

  • Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 2

The Park of Arts was named this way because there is the largest composition of open-air sculptures in Russia. In its territory there are already more than 1000 unique exhibits: from monuments of the socialist realism era to various kinds of contemporary art. But this is not all the attractions of the park. In recent years, “Museon” has become an important cultural site of the city. The park regularly hold many different concerts, festivals, educational projects in the field of art and design. There is a Central House of the Artist, a comfortable summer cinema and other attractions on territory. Be sure to stroll pedestrian Crimean embankment, which looks like a modern park.

Neskuchny Garden – True Russian Nature is Here

Neskuchny garden is located on the right bank of the Moscow River. Today it is also seen as a part of the Gorky Park. This landscape park is one of the oldest in the city and is protected by the state. Its name was received from the Neskuchnoye Estate of  Prince Trubetskoi which is still located in the park.

  • Leninsky Prospekt metro station, Leninsky Prospect, 30

This park is famous mostly for its location close to the Gorky park. It is a quite place with true nature, lots of trees and squirrels and also ancient architecture. As in every park, there are sports and playgrounds, cafes and even a football field.

Zaryadye Park – 5 Steps Away From The Red Square

The area of this brand new park was opened only in September 2017 and located in the very heart of Moscow – right near the Red Square.

  • Open from 10AM to 10PM
  • Teatralnaya, Okhotnyi ryad, Ploschad Revolutsii

The park has 4 zones, each of them represent different parts of Russian landscapes. Above the river there is a floating bridge from where you get to see one of the best panoramic views on Moscow. Other attractions of the park are 5D cinema where you can take a flight above Moscow, few cafes and restaurants, pretty lakes with fishes and old preserved churches. In addition there is still being built a  philharmonic hall, covered with a huge dome and an Ice cage where the temperature will always stay below zero degrees.

When you are on the Red Square do not miss it!

All-Russia Exhibition Center (VDNKh) – The Soviet Style Moscow Park

Park VDNKh – one of the most famous parks in Moscow. This park is one of the sights of the city as it hasn’t changed much since the Soviet era.

  • VDNKh metro station, Prospect Mira, 119

The symbol of VDNKh is a fountain with 16 women symbolizing the friendship of the nations of the USSR. Around this fountain there are all the pavilions representing 16 republics. Now inside the pavilions you find various shops, cafes and exhibitions. If you go deep inside the park you will find a rocket Vostok and and an aircraft. What is funny the inside of the aircraft there is actually a photo exhibition. Near the northern entrance you there is a famous sculpture “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman”. It is extremely famous among Russians as all the movies by Mosfilm corporation used to start with the picture of this statue. But if you go further inside the park you will reach a very calm area. A lake is there, forest and birds singing. Since the park occupies a large area I suggest you to rent a bicycle.

Sokolniki Park – A Place For A Hunt Or For Leisure?

The park got its name because of the royal falconry, which took place there in the past when there was a dense forest. (Sokol means a falcon.) In 2011 it was significantly transformed: updated lawns, landscaped ponds and picnic areas, restored summer cinema and theater, a large rose garden, sports grounds, bicycle paths and other things.

  • Sokolniki metro station, Sokolnichesky Val, 1, p. 1

From the main entrance along the alley you can walk to the Sokolniki circle, where 8 alleys form 9 sectors, in each of them you will find trees of the same breed.  The park is famous for its rosary, as well as flower decoration. On the territory of the park there are concert halls, a library, amusement zone, dances zone and many many other attractions. In winter the park has a skating rink (a free of charge one) and ski runs. During the warm season you can rent a bicycle.

Tsaritsino Park – A Different World Inside Moscow

Here you can walk for hours, admiring the most beautiful nature and magnificent architecture.

  • Open from 6AM to 12AM
  • Tsaritsyno metro station, Dolsky, 1

The most amazing part of the park is the lake with a light and musical fountain. Every evening the fountain starts the show. Lights and music combined make you feel like you are not in Moscow but in a fairy tale. The park is also well equipped for sports lovers and healthy lifestyle. There are volleyball and basketball courts, a tennis court, sports facilities for acrobatics, bodybuilding equipment.

What I personally like about this park is the atmosphere. This place is actually far from the city center but I love going there anyway. Whenever I go there I feel like I left Moscow with all its hectic lifestyle. It is the place where I relax, enjoy myself or a company of my friends and feel kind of different. By the way totally suggested for a date!

Kolomenskoye Park – Combination Of Reserve and Architecture

The Kolomenskoye park is actually a Museum-Reserve. It is a former residence of Russian tsars and one of the most scenic places in Moscow.

  • May to September – open from 8AM to 12AM, October to April – from 8AM to 9PM
  • Kolomenskoye metro station, Andropov Ave, 39

Alike with Tsaritsino park Kolomenskoye park has its own special atmosphere with all the architecture, trees, ponds and even a river bank. The park regularly hosts various folk festivals and different fairs. In summer time you can play with kites or rent a bicycle and ride around the huge area of the park.

I love the view that you get on the city from one of the hills near the river. I love the apple trees alleys and the beautiful churches. It is also a bit far from the city center but yet worth going there. One of my best friends even celebrated her wedding there.

Aptekarsky Garden or Botanical garden of the Moscow State University – The Best Botanical Garden in The World

Aptekar in Russian language means a pharmacist so basically it is a pharmacist’s garden. It was founded in 1706 by Peter The Great for growing medicinal plants for the royal family. But later they moved it from under the walls of the Kremlin to the current location.

  • Open from 10AM to 8PM
  • Prospect Mira metro station, Prospekt Mira, 26

In the botanical garden there are no attractions and noisy crowds of tourists. The area of the garden is not as big as any other park in Moscow. And the entrance is not free. But this exactly what makes this park one of the most comfortable in the city. In the Aptekarsky garden they grow thousands of different plants, flowers and trees. Some of the trees are more than 300 years old. They held different festivals there: flowers festivals, sand and ice sculptures expositions.

For me it is one of the most beautiful parks not only in Moscow but in the world. I have never seen so many different flowers and plants anywhere else. And trust me I am a real park lover. And what is more the staff really takes care about every single tree or plant there, some of the trees have names and stories. I love it there and I think the price is really worth what you get.

Victory Park – A Park That Makes Us Remember The War

The park is located on the Poklonnaya Hill and it has one of the world’s largest memorial complexes dedicated to the World War II. The park was opened for the 50th anniversary of the Victory on May 9, 1995. It is also one of the main venues in the city for holding a variety of mass events.

  • Park Pobedy metro station, Brothers Fonchenko, 7

On the main avenue of the park there are with 1418 fountains – exactly as long as the war lasted. Fountains make five water terraces, symbolizing five years of military operations. And in the center of the park there is the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. If you are interested in the history of the war do not miss it. The Poklonnaya Hill is a part of the park and from the hill you get one of the best views on the city of Moscow. And I could say this is the best place for watching the fireworks during the mass celebrations. But be aware it gets too crowded then. As in most of the other big parks you can rent a bicycle or rollers there.

Izmailovsky Park – A Mix of a Big Forest and Attractions

Izmaylovsky Park occupies a huge green territory, making up a large part of the Izmailovo district. The park consists of two parts: Izmaylovsky Park of Culture and Rest and the forest park of Izmailovo. First part is full of attractions and restaurants while the second one is like a real forest with pine trees, birch groves, beautiful clearings and ponds.

  • Izmaylovskaya, Shosse Entuziastov or Partizanskaya metro stations, Izmaylovsky Park

It is easy to spend there a whole day. A large landscaped area and a lot of various entertainments for children and adults will help you not to get bored. An observation wheel, a boat station, children’s playgrounds, a dance floor, sports grounds, a skate park – all this is only a small part of the possible leisure activities. In the park there are bike paths and a rental services.

I don’t go there often to be honest. But the park is very very close whenever to a souvenir market on Partizanskaya metro station. And whenever the weather is nice and I have enough of free time I stroll through the alleys of the park and enjoy the nature. So if you are going to the souvenir market too and you have enough free time then do go to the park too.
