Men's Safari Shirts Read our Men's Safari Shirts Advice Guide

The advice below is a summary . If you are looking for more information & expert advice then please click here for our full safari shirt advice guide .

  • Pack men's safari shirts which are made from neutral, natural tones such as shades of khaki, green, and brown.
  • We suggest you pack more men's safari shirts which are long-sleeved safari shirts with roll-up sleeve tabs over short-sleeved shirts - simply as you are able to roll your sleeves up and down when you need to stay cool, keep warm, or to avoid sunburn on your arms.
  • Pack men's safari shirts which offer a combination of effective wicking, sun protection (SPF50+ is best), and proven insect defence.
  • As a general rule, men's safari shirts made from man-made fibres (e.g. polyamide) are superior to natural fibres such as cotton as they wick moisture away from the skin much faster than cotton shirts. Faster wicking means faster cooling. This is particularly important for any long-sleeved or collared shirt.
  • Pack men's safari shirts which have a collar to protect your neck from the sun.

Number of men's safari shirts to pack: Up to 4-day safari: x 2; Up to 8-day safari: x 4; Up to 12-day safari: x 6

Men's Explorer BUGTech Anti-Insect Safari Shirt in Katavi Khaki

Men's explorer bugtech anti-insect safari shirt in khaki olive, men's explorer bugtech anti-insect safari shirt in baobab khaki, men's explorer bugtech anti-insect safari shirt in dark olive, men's explorer safaritech shirt in katavi khaki, men's bugtech anti-insect everything safari shirt in safari willow, men's bugtech anti-insect everything safari shirt in baobab khaki, men's bugtech anti-insect everything safari shirt in katavi khaki, men's everyday safari shirt, bugtech in katavi khaki, men's everyday safari shirt, bugtech in safari willow, men's savute safari t-shirt in desert olive, men's savute safari t-shirt in desert olive (new fit), men's adventure anti-insect safari shirt in dark khaki, men's safari jackets & fleeces read our men's safari jackets & fleeces advice guide.

  • You absolutely do need a men's safari jacket or men's safari fleece on any safari - whether you opt for a long-sleeved safari fleece or jacket or a safari fleece vest - as it does get cold on safari.
  • The reasons for the cold include: African winters, wind chill on safaris in open 4x4s (dipping into valleys and drainage lines also adds an extra bite of cold), early morning starts and late evening finishes for safari activities, land-locked countries, and many safari areas being high above sea level. The Maasai Mara & Serengeti (and most of East Africa) are the height of some ski resorts at 1,400 meters above sea level. Botswana, parts of Zambia, and Namibia are also more or less 1,000 meters above sea level.
  • Think of the safari experience as a desert trip where it starts off cold in the mornings and becomes cold again in the evenings, but heating up by midday to warm or hot. Keep in mind that the hotter the temperatures are at midday, the earlier you will go on safari, which means the cooler it will be. Again, you should definitely pack a men's safari fleece or men's safari jacket for your safari. We have given this advice to clients who have ignored it and returned from an October safari in Botswana to tell us that, yes, they did indeed get cold despite the midday heat.
  • For the African winter, opt for a long-sleeved safari jacket or safari fleece and, for the summer, either a safari vest jacket or fleece, but then wear a long-sleeved safari shirt underneath so that the sleeves help to keep you warm.
  • Colour is still key when choosing the correct safari fleece or safari jacket. Opt for neutral shades such as khaki, green, or brown.
  • For safari travel over the rainy season, pack a high quality, waterproof safari jacket which is proven to actually work. For East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda), the rains generally occur in two parts: the longer monsoon in April and May and then the shorter rains around November. Higher safari areas such as the Ngorongoro Crater catch the wind from the sea and it may rain at any time of the year. Southern Tanzania differs from this and is similar to the rainy season in Zambia, Botswana, and northern Mozambique - and falls between late November and late March, often extending into April. As a general rule, if one had to ask "when is Africa always dry?" - the answer would be May to October, with regional rains still possible in some parts. Please also note that the South African rainy season is split down the middle of the country, with the east receiving rain through summer and the west a winter rainfall area. That winter rainfall can push through in cold fronts to the east of the country too.
  • Having lived in Africa through the rains we are also able to advise that the daytime temperature goes from very hot before the rains start, to much cooler once the rains have settled in. The difference may be as much as 10 to 15 degrees celsius below the average temperatures and so again we advise that a fleece or jacket is packed to keep you warm.

Number of men's safari jackets or safari fleeces to pack for your safari: 1 x safari fleece or jacket; 1 x waterproof safari jacket should you be travelling over the rainy season.

Men's SafariElite Bonded Safari Fleece in Safari Sage

Men's explorer safari jacket with micro-fleece lining & bugtech in katavi khaki, men's explorer safari jacket with micro-fleece lining & bugtech in dark olive, ultimate safari hoodie in safari khaki, waterproof packaway safari jacket (unisex) in khaki, essential waterproof safari poncho in khaki, men's safari shoes & boots read our men's safari shoes & boots advice guide.

  • If you are going on a classic game drive type of safari, then pack comfortable men's safari shoes to wear on game drive but which are able to double as good walking shoes for a walk in the bush - an activity we highly recommend. Note that if you do not have walking shoes with you on game drive then your guide may decide against a quick impromptu walk in the bush
  • Also take a pair of men's safari shoes to wear around the camp. These may be the same pair as your select for the above, but it may also be a pair of cooler sandals or open shoes.
  • For full-on walking safaris make sure you take men's safari shoes which are made for longer hikes - and ensure that you walk them in properly before you go on safari. You may prefer low rise canvas trail shoes or leather higher rise boots - the preference is purely personal.
  • If you are going on a walking safari in sandy areas (check with the walking safari company you have booked with) then we suggest that you pack higher rise boots with a built in tongue - such as our Rufiji™ APU Safari Combat Boots - as this will minimise the amount of sand which goes into the shoe which will cause discomfort.
  • We would still take a a pair of cooler men's shoes or sandals for before and after walks when around the camp.
  • Safari tip: always check your shoes for small snakes, scorpions, spiders and insects before putting them on.

Rufiji™ Explorer Safari Veldskoen Shoes in Ruaha Rust

Rufiji™ explorer safari veldskoen shoes in kalahari khaki, rufiji™ apu combat safari boots in wildebeest brown, the buffalo boot in buffalo brown, veldskoen desert safari boots in khaki, men's safari trousers & shorts read our men's safari trousers & shorts advice guide.

  • Pack men's safari trousers which are made in safari-suitable colours. These are ideally shades of khaki, brown, and green.
  • The men's safari trousers go-to product will always be zip-off or convertible men's safari trousers and pants. These are designed for maximum versatility no matter the conditions on safari: trousers when cool, shorts when hot - and they save on valuable packing space by being two garments in one. The leg sections also give added protection from the sun and defence from most biting insects - especially when treated with built-in SPF and anti-insect treatment. For walking safaris, having separate waterproof leg sections for your men's safari pants which provide insect defence work the best.
  • Should you prefer to also pack separate men's safari trousers and men's safari shorts, then make sure you work out the duration of your activity and wear either trousers or the shorts depending on the weather during that activity. There is no use starting off warm with men's safari trousers when its cold in the morning only to be boiling hot later on in the day. Another option if you prefer separate safari trousers and safari shorts would be to take shorts or trousers with you on the safari activity in a satchel or daypack and change while on the activity.
  • The ideal men's safari trousers and shorts are lightweight, strong, provide a high level of sun protection (SPF50+ is recommended), and have an anti-insect finish. Wicking is less important from a sweat and cooling point of view, as your legs don't sweat as much as your upper body, but wicking would be important in ensuring that, should your safari trousers get wet from the rain or a water-based activity - or even just the morning dew while walking - that they dry very quickly.
  • Men's safari trousers which are made from man-made fibres (such as polyamide) are preferable to those made from natural fibres (such as cotton) for their moisture wicking properties, ensuring that you stay cool and dry on safari.

Number of men's safari trousers and shorts to pack for your safari: Up to 4-day safari: x 2 (1+1); Up to 8-day safari: x 3 (2+1); Up to 12-day safari: x 4 (2+2) We have shown the number of men's safari trouser zip-offs/convertibles as the first number - "x 3"- and the men's safari trousers plus men's safari shorts combination in brackets - e.g. (2+1). Always make sure that you pack the total number whether you opt for safari zip-offs, safari trousers, or safari shorts, but always have a combination of safari shorts and trousers. As an example, for an 8-day safari, you could take one pair of zip-offs, one pair of trousers, and one pair of shorts - or 3 pairs of zip-offs, or two pairs of shorts and one pair of trousers - or vice versa.

The advice below is a summary . If you are looking for more information & expert advice then please click here for our full safari hat advice guide .

  • To prevent having your face and neck burnt by the sun during your safari activities, you will need a wide-brimmed men's safari hat.
  • With mean high temperatures reaching mid-20 to mid-30 degrees Celsius on most safaris and with safari areas in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, and Zambia high above sea level, the effects of the sun will be pronounced and the risk of being burnt by the sun will be high. As a wide-brimmed men's safari hat sits on your head, it is literally your first line of defence against a hot midday African sun.
  • Another benefit of wide-brimmed men's safari hats which most people don't think about is the shelter they provide when it rains. We find that a wide-brimmed safari hat definitely makes it slightly less uncomfortable when you are caught out on a walk or game drive by a sudden thunderstorm or tropical shower, as at least your face - or most of it - remains dry.
  • Colour is key when choosing a men's safari hat - with neutral shades such as khaki, green, or brown the best. Your safari hat will often be the most conspicuous part of you as you hide behind a bush while viewing wildlife on a walk.
  • Modern wide-brimmed men's safari hats are conveniently packable too and so do not lose their shape when you take them out of your luggage. If they have lost a bit of shape, you are usually easily able to manipulate them back into shape. However, never crush your safari hat under a hard object - such as shoes or binoculars - when packing.

Number of wide-brimmed men's safari hats to pack for your safari: 1 x wide-brimmed safari hat per person. *Pack a safari beanie for the African winter too.

  • Walking in the bush while on safari is the quintessential experience. We recommend it to all who go to Africa.
  • Whether you go for a short nature walk with your guide or a multi-day walking safari, please ensure that you pack safari-coloured safari socks which offer a double layer for blister protection. Bad blisters ruin good walks.
  • Pack ankle gaiters if you prefer further protection for your ankles and socks.

Number of blister-proof socks to pack for your safari: Up to 4-day safari: x 2; Up to 8-day safari: x 3; Up to 12-day safari: x 4.

Mara&Meru Ultimate Anti-Blister Socks (Active, Everyday, Safari) in Olive Green

  • Pack a multi-functional Head&Neck scarf for just about all outdoor adventures, including safari. Head&Neck Scarves keep your neck and head out of the sun when it is hot, and provide an element of warmth too when it starts to get cold. They offer maximum versatility.
  • Following on from our advice for safari fleeces and safari jackets, you need to pack garments and accessories for your safari which keep you warm. Therefore, woollen men's safari scarves, safari beanies, and safari gloves should be considered a packing essential over the African winter - and for some mornings through summer in Africa too. For more details on when and why Africa gets cold, please view the men's safari jacket and fleeces page.
  • At the very least we recommend packing a safari beanie on any safari as they are so small and light to carry in your luggage, yet have a big effect on how warm you are should you get cold. Keep your safari beanie in the bag you take on game drives - you may well get some envious stares from others who have not had the foresight to pack a safari beanie.
  • Further to the point above, for the African summer pack a men's safari beanie just in case. For the most part your men's wide-brimmed safari hat should keep you warm enough, but why take the risk? Please do take note too of the altitude of the area in which you are going on safari. The Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, as an example, is over 2000 metres above sea level and most camps are on the rim of the crater and so may have cold temperatures (morning and evenings in particular) and precipitation throughout the year and we would recommend taking warmer safari accessories just in case.
  • Pack safari scarves, safari beanies, and safari gloves in safari colours.

Number of men's safari scarves, safari beanies, and safari gloves to pack for your safari: 1 x men's safari scarf; 1 x men's safari beanie; 1 x men's safari gloves - although you should be fine tucking your hands into your men's safari jacket or fleece to keep them warm.

When choosing the right khaki cargo shorts for a safari, pick a pair made from high-quality, lightweight materials such as cotton or blended fabrics. However, keep in mind that they should still be tough enough to handle a rough terrain or any potential snags or tears that may come your way. You don't want to be worrying about your attire while out in the field with potentially dangerous animals.

A wicking and breathable fabric is also essential. This feature will keep moisture away from the skin, making you feel cooler and drier. The fabric should also provide adequate ventilation to prevent heat rashes and other skin irritations.

Pair your khaki cargo shorts with light, breathable, and moisture-wicking shirts for maximum comfort and functionality. For footwear, consider buying sturdy hiking boots or closed-toe sandals. Finally, bring a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and neck from the scorching sun during your safari adventure.

In summary, Khaki cargo shorts are a vital piece of clothing to include when packing for a safari. They are durable, practical and keep you comfortable throughout your adventure. They are perfect for storing necessary items in their numerous pockets and designed to withstand the rigors of a safari. When it comes to a safari expedition, selecting the right outfit is crucial, especially for men. Wearing the correct clothing can make all the difference in both your comfort and overall enjoyment of the trip. One essential item that men should consider packing in their safari gear is a suitable pair of lightweight hiking pants.

One benefit of wearing lightweight hiking pants is that they are incredibly comfortable and lightweight, allowing for unrestricted movement. Look for pants that are made from breathable materials such as synthetic fabrics that wick away sweat and moisture. They are perfect for long days of trekking and exploring in the bush without feeling bogged down or weighed down by heavy clothes.

Additionally, lightweight hiking pants provide sun protection, which is an important consideration when roaming around in the African savanna. Choose pants that are made with sun-resistant materials or have a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) rating to keep you safe from harmful UV rays.

Insects can be a significant nuisance on safari, but wearing hiking pants can help keep bugs and insects at bay. Opt for pants made with insect repellent material, such as permethrin. This ensures that you can explore the wilderness without worrying about mosquito bites or other irritating insect bites.

Finally, hiking pants offer the added practicality of numerous pockets where you can store essential items such as binoculars, cameras, and maps. With all these benefits, it's apparent that lightweight hiking pants are the perfect choice for men looking for an excellent safari wardrobe. Just remember to choose fabrics that fit well and ensure that they're not too baggy or too snug, and you're all set to enjoy an unforgettable experience on a safari expedition.

Comfortable and Supportive Clothing for Hip Arthroscopy Recovery

When it comes to planning your safari attire, a key item that shouldn't be overlooked is a safari vest with pockets. This type of vest is an excellent addition to your safari wardrobe for many reasons. Not only does it provide a practical storage solution, but it also keeps you cool and comfortable in the hot African bush.

The main purpose of a safari vest with pockets is to provide ample storage space for your personal items and accessories. With multiple pockets of various sizes, you'll have easy access to your camera, binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent, and other essentials, all without having to lug around a bulky backpack.

Another great feature of a safari vest is its lightweight and breathable materials. You can choose from a range of fabrics, including cotton, nylon, or mesh, which are all ideal for keeping you cool in the heat. The added benefit of breathability is that it helps wick away sweat, making your safari experience more comfortable.

A safari vest also serves as a great layering piece. When the temperature starts to drop in the early morning or late evening, you can easily slip on a safari vest to keep you warm without the added bulk of a jacket. It's a versatile piece that can be worn on its own or layered with your other safari clothes.

Finally, a safari vest with pockets is a stylish and practical accessory for any safari adventurer. It adds a touch of ruggedness and provides a great storage solution, all while keeping you comfortable and protected from the African sun. Whether you're embarking on a wildlife safari, birding expedition, or cultural tour, a safari vest is a must-have item for your trip.

Perfecting Your Professional Look: Women's Headshot Attire Tips

When it comes to what to wear on a safari, a long sleeve button-up shirt is an essential item for men. This type of shirt provides protection from the sun's harmful rays while keeping you cool and comfortable in the heat. It also makes it easier to regulate your body temperature by simply rolling up the sleeves.

When choosing a long sleeve button-up shirt for a safari, opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. These materials will help keep you cool and dry even during the hottest parts of the day. Look for shirts with a loose fit, as tight-fitting clothing can restrict your movement and make it harder to stay comfortable on the safari.

Neutral colors like khaki, beige, and olive green are ideal for safari wear. These colors are less likely to attract insects and will help you blend in with the natural surroundings. Avoid bright colors or patterns as they can scare off wildlife and make you stand out in the bush.

In addition to protecting you from the sun and keeping you cool, a long sleeve button-up shirt is also practical for a safari. The pockets on the front of the shirt provide a convenient place to store small items like a map, compass, or insect repellent. The buttons also make it easy to adjust the shirt to fit your body and the temperature of your environment.

Overall, a long sleeve button-up shirt is an essential item for any man going on a safari. It provides protection, comfort, and practicality all in one, making it the perfect choice for any adventure in the great outdoors.

Road to Hana Attire: Picking the Perfect Outfit for Adventure

When you’re planning a safari, it’s important to consider the gear you’ll bring along with you – and one of the most important items is a wide brim sun hat. Not only does it protect you from the sun, but it also adds a touch of safari style to your outfit. Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing a wide brim sun hat.

First and foremost, look for a hat with a wide brim – at least 3 inches – to provide ample shade and protection from the sun. A brim that wide will help shield your face and neck from harmful UV rays. Additionally, some sun hats also have neck flaps or chin straps for added protection.

Secondly, consider the material. Hats that are made from lightweight, breathable materials such as straw or cotton will be more comfortable to wear in the heat. Avoid synthetic materials like polyester, as they are less breathable and can trap heat, making you feel even hotter.

When it comes to style, wide brim sun hats come in a range of options – from classic fedoras to more adventurous safari styles. Consider the rest of your outfit and choose a hat that complements your look. If you’re going for a more classic look, a neutral-colored fedora with a leather band is a great option. For a more adventurous, safari-style hat, look for ones in natural hues or with a patterned band.

Finally, make sure your hat fits properly. A hat that’s too big will slide around, while one that’s too tight will be uncomfortable, so look for one that fits snugly but isn’t too tight. Try on a few different sizes to find the perfect fit.

Choosing the right wide brim sun hat – with ample shade, breathable materials, the right style, and a comfortable fit – is one of the keys to staying comfortable and stylish on your safari adventure.

Snowy Style: Fashionable Alternatives to Snow Pants

When planning a safari trip, it's essential to choose the right footwear to ensure comfort and safety during your journey. While many people might think of wearing heavy hiking boots or sandals, it's a good idea to consider wearing breathable sneakers instead.

Another advantage of breathable sneakers is their versatility. They can be worn for long periods and are ideal for walking or standing for extended periods. Since you will likely be spending a lot of time outdoors, it's vital to choose shoes that provide the necessary support and comfort needed for your feet.

Sneakers also offer a better grip, which is beneficial for walking on rocky or uneven terrain. They are lightweight and easy to pack, making them perfect for travel. If you plan on exploring cities or towns during your trip, sneakers are also perfect for wandering around comfortably.

When choosing the right sneakers for your safari trip, be sure to consider factors such as durability, breathability, and comfort level. Look for high-quality options that are built to last and can withstand the rugged terrain of a safari. By investing in a good pair of breathable sneakers, you'll be ensuring that your feet are comfortable and protected for the duration of your trip.

Style Up Your Look: Fashionable Pairings for Platform Sandals

When going on a safari, it is essential to consider comfort, functionality, and style. One of the crucial items to have in your suitcase is a neutral colored t-shirt. Not only is it practical for the safari environment, but it is also versatile for various types of safari tours and activities.

Neutral colors such as khaki, beige, or olive are excellent options for a safari t-shirt. These colors blend well with the natural surroundings and help avoid attention from dangerous animals. It is also essential to choose a t-shirt made of breathable materials such as cotton or linen. These materials will allow you to stay cool and comfortable in hot and humid conditions.

To further enhance your safari t-shirt, you can also opt for one with multiple pockets. These pockets will prove very useful as you can conveniently store your phone, camera, or other small items without having to carry additional bags or pouches. A collared t-shirt that can protect your neck and shoulders from the sun is also a smart choice.

When it comes to styling a safari t-shirt, it is crucial to lean towards functionality rather than fashion. It is best to avoid clothing decorated with graphics, logos or very bright colors. Remember, you are going on a safari, not a fashion show. Stick to simple, classic, and practical designs.

In conclusion, a neutral colored t-shirt made of breathable materials with multiple pockets and a collared neck is an excellent option for what to wear on a safari for men. Its practicality and simplicity will make you comfortable while touring the wildlife and also blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Do not forget to bring several of these t-shirts as you will need to change after every safari tour for hygiene and to avoid getting your t-shirts smelly.

Comedy Night Attire for Men: Casual yet Stylish Tips

When it comes to packing for a safari, one of the most important considerations for men is choosing the right footwear. Trekking sandals are a great option for those looking for a balance of comfort, support, and versatility. Here are a few key things to consider when choosing trekking sandals for your safari adventure.

First, look for sandals that offer good support for your feet and ankles. This will be especially important if you plan on doing any walking or hiking. Look for sandals with a sturdy sole and a snug fit to help prevent blisters and other foot injuries.

Another important consideration is the material of the sandals. Look for sandals made from breathable materials like mesh or leather to help keep your feet cool and dry. This can be especially important if you'll be traveling during the hot season or in more humid areas.

When it comes to style, there are plenty of options to choose from. Some trekking sandals are more rugged and outdoorsy, while others are more stylish and versatile. Think about the types of activities you'll be doing on your safari and choose a style that will work well for your needs.

Finally, consider investing in a pair of trekking sandals that are easy to pack and transport. Look for sandals that are lightweight and compact so that you can easily throw them in your luggage or backpack. This will help ensure that you have the right footwear for your trip without taking up too much space or adding too much weight to your travel gear.

All in all, trekking sandals can be a great choice for men looking for the right footwear for their safari adventure. Just be sure to consider factors like support, material, style, and portability to find the sandals that will work best for you.

Decoding Dress Code for Dispensary Interviews

If you’re planning to go on a safari adventure soon and wondering what to wear, then zip-off convertible pants may be just what you need. These versatile pants are an excellent choice for men, as they provide comfort, flexibility, and practicality all in one. Here are some reasons why you should consider packing a pair of zip-off convertible pants for your safari trip:

Firstly, zip-off convertible pants are incredibly versatile and can be worn as both shorts and pants by simply zipping off the bottom part. This feature is incredibly useful, especially when the weather suddenly changes, or when you need to switch from one activity to another. You can zip off the pants to cool down during the day and then zip them back on in the evening when the weather gets colder.

Another great thing about zip-off convertible pants is that they’re made of breathable and lightweight material, which is essential for safari trips. The material is designed to keep you cool, dry, and comfortable, even in hot and humid conditions. Moreover, these pants can be easily washed and dried, making them ideal for outdoor activities.

Furthermore, zip-off convertible pants have several pockets where you can store your valuables, such as your phone, wallet, and passport. This is incredibly useful when you need to keep your valuables safe and secure while on the go. With both side and back pockets, you won't have to worry about carrying a backpack or purse, which can be cumbersome and limit your mobility during your safari adventure.

Lastly, zip-off convertible pants are available in a range of styles and designs, ranging from cargo pants to slim-fit pants. Therefore, you’ll be able to choose a pair that suits your style preference. Additionally, they come in various colors, so you can choose a neutral shade that will blend well with the natural environment.

In conclusion, zip-off convertible pants are an excellent choice for safari trips, providing practicality, versatility, and comfort. By packing a pair of these versatile pants and pairing them with a collared shirt and a good pair of shoes, you will be safari-ready and enjoy your adventure with utmost comfort and flexibility.

Yes, wearing a hat while on safari is highly recommended to protect your face and scalp from the sun. A wide-brimmed hat made from lightweight materials like straw or breathable fabrics like cotton is a good choice.

Safari Outfits Ideas

Whether you’re going to the Australian outback, the Sahara desert, or to your sister-in-law’s themed party, knowing a few solid safari outfit ideas can only benefit you.

So, in this article, I’m going to teach you how to put together some safari outfits—that way you’ll look less like a tourist and more like a tour guide.

What Makes Up A Safari Outfit?

Safari Outfits Ideas

Safari outfit ideas are largely based on the climate that you’ll be exploring. Since most safaris take place in extremely warm or humid locations, you’ll want to consider wearing khaki items .

That’s because the material doesn’t attract too much sunlight so it won’t make you overheat.

Other pieces you may want to include in your safari outfit ideas are:

  • Pith helmets
  • Safari boots
  • Safari hats
  • Bush jackets
  • Khaki shorts

History Of Safaris

Safari Outfits Ideas

Before I tell give you more safari outfit ideas, let’s learn about the history of safaris.

The first documented safari, or what we would call a safari, was in 1836 . William Cornwallis Harris, an English hunter, began the practice as a way to observe flora, fauna, and animals from a peaceful distance.

The goal was not to interact with the wildlife (shocking, given Harris’ hunting proficiency) but to study it.

Harris’ methodology involved getting up early, lots of movement throughout the day to see as many of the animals as possible, and a nightly dinner to review everything he and his fellow safari men saw that day.

This format is still used today but it’s far from the only one. For example, Newland & Tarlton Ltd. invented luxury tented safaris , which is another variation that’s safer for the participants while costing them much more.

What Are Some Popular Safari Outfit Ideas?

Safari Outfits Ideas

Safari outfit ideas tend to be pretty similar since they usually consist of a combination of athletic wear and relaxed-fitting khaki clothing.

You’ll often find that the outfits are pretty uniform when it comes to color because they’re built to repel sunlight . This is the case whether you’re looking for safari outfit men’s looks or safari outfit women’s styles.

Safari Outfits Ideas

My first safari outfit idea involves probably the darkest colors I’d recommend wearing if you’re going on an actual safari. However, if you want a safari-theme outfit for a party then this is a great look.

It has everything you could want in a safari outfit—the baggy fits, earthy tones, and relaxed materials. However, the ensemble has a distinctive fashionista’s flair.

Safari Outfits Ideas

This is a much more conventional safari guide outfit that’d actually serve you well in the field. I adore the one-piece that retains its shape thanks to the belt. However, this look is all about the accessories.

Of course, you’ll want your accessories to be functional when you’re on a safari expedition because you don’t want to lug around unnecessary weight.

So keep that in mind when thinking about safari outfit ideas. This outfit shows how you can add a few personal touches to your fit without ruining your mobility.

The hat and sunglasses are both essential as you’ll be out in the sun for long periods of time. They’ll protect you from UV rays that could harm your skin and tire you out.

Yet it’s the bag that I’m most impressed by because it’s a stylish way to carry everything you need in a format that’s different than a backpack.

Fashion Tips To Avoid With Safari Outfits

Safari Outfits Ideas

Here are the things you’ll want to avoid when putting together your safari outfit ideas.

  • Don’t wear accessories unless you need them to survive. Of course, I’m being a bit melodramatic, but safaris aren’t the place for heavy jewelry or dangly earrings.
  • Stay away from black as it’ll attract too much sunlight and you’ll likely overheat .
  • Don’t wear slip-on shoes , high heels, or other footwear that doesn’t fit most safari outfit ideas’ standard aesthetic.

Best Places To Buy Safari Outfits

Some of my favorite places to purchase safari outfit ideas include:

  • Banana Republic
  • Eddie Bauer

Final Thoughts

Safari Outfits Ideas

Assembling a few great safari outfit ideas can be fun once you learn the fundamentals . It’s all a matter of toying around with lighter colors and breathable textiles.

And with enough practice, you might end up looking like a grown-up Dora the Explorer, and I mean that as a compliment.

safari outfit ideas

Hearing the word safari immediately creates an image of a white truck, surrounded by wild animals, a magnificent sunset, and never-ending land. Going on a safari is an experience unlike any other. This vacation isn’t about fancy hotels and five-star restaurants, instead, it is a journey through nature.

The thrill you feel on a safari is indescribable and so it’s only fitting that you pack a wardrobe that suits the adventure of the journey. When selecting clothing pieces for a safari it is important that you keep durability as your primary concern.

Safaris in Africa are no place for peep-toe shoes and mini skirts. You don’t want to show up overdressed and so it’s essential that you do your research before packing for your trip. You will be surrounded by wildlife and it’s only appropriate you choose clothing pieces that work in harmony with mother nature.

What To Expect In This Article?

Key Clothing Pieces for a Safari

Once you have worked out all your details regarding your trip, the next most important step is creating a wardrobe fit for the wild. Down below are wardrobe staples that you absolutely need if you plan on going on a safari any time soon.

Tops

You want to look for something lightweight and breathable. Pick out synthetic or linen shirts. Also, invest in one or two full-sleeved shirts to shield you from mosquito attacks.

Pants

Pants

Jeans are a staple clothing piece, just not for safaris. You want to pick out loose-fit pants like cargo pants. When picking out fabric, you want to look for something more flexible that can work in both heat and humidity. Neutral and earthy tone clothes are perfect for safaris. Khaki and green colors are two excellent options and they pair wonderfully with other safari clothing pieces.

Shorts

Shorts are great for the days you plan to sit in the back of a jeep. They are a great way to beat the heat and stay fashionable.

vDresses

Try out rompers and one-pieces for the days you want to look cute but adventurous. Dresses with animal prints are also fitting for a safari. They look great in pictures, but if you plan on walking, it’s best you stick to pants.

Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits

Another one piece that makes for an extremely summer-chic outfit . All you need is a hat and a pair of boots to make a jumpsuit suitable for a safari.

Swimsuits

Swimsuits

Packing a swimsuit depends on where you plan to go on a safari. If it is somewhere with nice beaches, you should pack one or two swimsuits to get to experience the beach life as well.

Jackets

Jackets

A safari jacket is the best style of jacket you can take with you on a safari. It was literally created for safaris and so is crafted keeping the harshness of a safari in mind. You should also invest in a corduroy jacket as the weather on safaris tends to drastically change during the night.

Footwear

You need two styles of shoes. A pair of cute sandals that you can wear for pictures and jeep rides. The other is a pair of safari boots to explore around in.

Hats

Is it even a safari if you don’t wear a hat?  A hat will not only protect you from the heat but it will also pull your whole look together. Plus, who doesn’t like a good hat?

5 Different outfits for 5 Days on a Safari

It’s not enough to just know about the clothing pieces you need. You also need to know how to style them. Throwing on a bunch of pieces will get you dressed but it won’t make an outfit. We have put together a few different looks in accordance with the most popular fashion trends of 2024 .

Safari Chic

Safari Chic

Start off your safari in style and opt for a white linen shirt. Pair it with high-waisted khaki shorts, a chic safari hat, and a pair of sandals. Tie an earthy-tone scarf around your neck to give the overall look a cute twist.

Alternatively, pair a white cotton shirt with khaki pants. Add on knee-high brown boots to create a western-themed outfit . This look is both easy to pull off and functional.

Safaris tend to get colder during the night. You can add on a brown leather jacket to this look to shield yourself from the cold.

Girl On The Run

Girl On The Run

Something about rompers just makes them an excellent choice for safaris. When picking rompers, it’s best to gravitate towards earthy tones like brown, beige, and green. These colors don’t absorb as much heat and look extremely chic.

When styling a romper, you have to invest in some eye-catching accessories. Try pairing a mute green romper with a brown belt and a fedora hat. Finish off the look with strappy sandals. This look is perfect for the days you plan on lounging or cruising.

Jungle Queen

Jungle Queen

Safaris can get brutal. The heat, humidity, and bizarre weather conditions can really get to you. On days like this, you want to stay covered up but in breathable clothing pieces. Jumpsuits are a great option since they cover you from head to toe and are available in a bunch of different colors.

To keep with the safari theme, style a brown jumpsuit with beige sandals. Add on a floppy hat and you are ready for the day.

One thing most people overlook on safaris is the drop in temperature during the night. There are a few different ways in which you can take your jumpsuit from day to night. You can either wear a white linen shirt over the jumpsuit or you can cover up with a safari jacket. Either of these options will keep you warm yet stylish.

Safari Elegance

Safari Elegance

Who says you can’t wear dresses to a safari?  When we say dresses, we don’t mean body-con or slip-dresses. Dresses appropriate for a safari include flowy maxi dresses and safari dresses. There are a bunch of different ways you can wear them.

A day spent feeding giraffes is a great opportunity to wear a dress and click some memorable photographs. Pick a lightweight maxi dress, with a floral or animal print. Add on a hat and some basic sandals.

If you plan to spend the day out in the wild, a safari dress will be better fitting. Safari dresses have a more structured silhouette. They aren’t flowy yet they have enough movement to identify as a dress. They come in standard safari colors and look stunning when paired with brown belts. Complete the look with either shoes, sandals, or safari boots.

Classy and Sophisticated

Classy and Sophisticated

Pants are the best option for bottoms when it comes to a safari. They are durable, flexible, stylish, and functional. They keep you covered and protect you from the sun and bugs. A beige safari shirt, tucked into green corduroy pants creates an archaeologist sort of look. Complete the look with safari boots and a wide-brim hat.

On the days that corduroy becomes unbearable, pick something more loose-fitting like cargo pants . Cargo pants look great on safaris, not to mention how handy all the pockets are. A safari shirt paired with cargo pants and brown safari boots creates a safari-friendly look.

Evenings, on a safari, are a time to relax and change out of your dusty day wear. A long-sleeved shirt, pants, and boots create the perfect look for an evening out. You can also add on a jacket to keep warm. Try to wear light-colored clothes to avoid mosquitos.

The best options for a safari-themed party are safari shirts, dresses, suits, rompers, and jumpsuits. Pick clothing pieces that revolve around an earthy color palette. Accessories are very important. Add on hats, boots, and belts to nail the safari theme.

First and foremost, learn about the weather conditions and the itinerary of the safari. Your safari duffel bag should include linen shirts, safari dresses, pants, shirts, boots, jumpsuits, and hats. One of each should get you through a safari in style.

Safaris are synonymous with Africa.  The weather is hot and humid during the day but chilly at night. You should wear full-sleeved shirts and pants to protect you from both sunburn and cold winds. When it comes to footwear. boots are the best option since a lot of walking is involved. Remember to wear a hat and to add on plenty of sunscreens before you set out on your journey.

Safari Style Guide Recap

Safaris are an amazing experience. They are a beautiful reminder of how incredible this world is. The exquisite sunsets, rare wildlife, and eccentric weather conditions get you thinking about how much the world has to offer.

Safari fashion is a completely different style of clothing. This type of fashion revolves around clothes that are both fashionable and durable. Safari Clothes For Men

Safari clothes for men.

Since time immemorial men have been known as the more adventurous sex. Whether that is true is a discussion for another day. Today we discuss men and safaris and what they should pack and wear on the ultimate adventure- a safari in Africa!

Safari clothing for men is not complicated if you know where you are going and what you need. Safari wardrobes are more about being practical rather than trendy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be both practical and trendy.

What to pack on an African safari

Men’s clothing is summarized in three items; trousers, shorts and shirts. Everything else is an accessory.

Trousers and shorts

Trousers are a man’s best friend on an African safari. They are warmth, protection from insects and bushes, and comfort all wrapped in one. Cargo pants or safari trousers are your best options for a safari anywhere on the African continent. They come in neutral colors, are made of comfortable material and have numerous pockets for carrying your bits and pieces.

Shorts in similar fabrics and makes are also good, especially for game drives and nature walks in open plains.

For game drives, birding, hiking, gorilla trekking, mountain climbing, and most other activities these should be comfortable.

Jeans can work too. But denim is quite heavy, absorbs heat, and in dark colors attracts insects. So we recommend khakis and cargo pants for safari activities. Jeans should be your last resort.

Try to have your trousers and shorts in neutral colors such as browns, greens, beige, even grays. Stay away from bright colors. The goals are comfort, and blending in.

Easy cotton shirts and jeans can be worn around the lodge or campsites, and on visits to nearby towns and villages. You can carry a apir of dress jeans for the occasional semi-formal dinner you might choose to have at one of the fancier hotels, or when you visit the more upscale towns.

Trousers and shorts can’t quite work without shirts. For the African safari, there are many safari shirts being sold in safari stores and online. These come in neutral colors, comfortable materials, and with pockets. Lots of pockets.

Casual cotton shirts, both long and short sleeved are good too. You can pack some of these. Again easy neutral colors. While white is neutral it is not practical for the African wilderness. There is so much dust and your white shirts will get dirty really fast. So brown, grey, green, beige, is the way to go.

There are some synthetic fabrics with moisture winking properties, if you can get shirts in some of those materials, pack those as well. In the tropical heat, you want to have moisture winking clothes on.

Safari footwear is important. And special attention needs to be paid to the safari boots especially. Good for hiking, trekking, mountain climbing and most activities in the wild, these are quite necessary for every man on safari. Buy your boots way before your trip and break them in so that you feet do not get blisters from unworn leather on safari. Get your feet and toes used to the boots. Make sure they are well fitting and have enough toe room especially if you are going mountain climbing. When you are trekking down the mountain, your toes are constantly shoved further into the boots, so you need enough toe room to be comfortable.

Also pack a pair of walking shoes and casual sandals for the much easier activities such as nature walks, village visits and relaxing around the camp site or lodge.

Accessories

Basic accessories for the guy’s safari wardrobe include; a wide brim hat to shield you from the heat of the African sun, a pair or two of sun glasses- the sun is not only hot but really bright , you want to protect your eyes, and also make it easier for you to view your surroundings. You will also need a fleece or warm jacket for when it gets cold- the nights and morning can be really cold. If you can get a water proof jacket, please do, weather across the continent can be unpredictable, just because you are visiting in what should be the dry season doesn’t mean there will not be any rains.

Other accessories include a pair or more of warm socks, and hand gloves. If you are mountain climbing, a balaclava might be a good thing to add to your luggage.

Men’s Safari Clothing

Great men who have traveled say that it’s the only way to explore the world. Africa is an amazing continent that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. It’s gifted by nature and has lots of wildlife, various bird species as well as gorillas which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. If you are a guy looking for an adventure and to explore the world, the best way to achieve your your dream is by going on a safari to Africa. There are so many adventurous activities for men on an Africa safari. There is white water rafting, mountain hikes, gorilla trekking, snorkeling, kayaking and bungee jumping.

Important questions asked when planning a safari trip to Africa include which destination to visit? When to visit and the very important “what clothes should I pack?”

Lightweight Clothes

This may sound a little hard but all you have to keep in mind is that safari clothing for men should be light. Recycling clothes is inevitable so your luggage should be easy to carry since you are likely to keep moving from one lodge to another. Try to make the journey easy and not hectic. If you are packing men’s safari clothes, you should take note of the colours. Not all colors will work for you on a safari, the most recommended colors are neutrals and these include khaki, brown and tan. The advantage with these colors is that they bring you close to the true wilderness; you easily spot animals without distraction. If you want to ruin your safari, carry bright colors that will make you stand out from your surroundings. These are dangerous and often times scare away animals. It is important to remember that Africa’s weather is hard to predict and so you are advised to pack short and long sleeved shirts. You never know what the weather will be like. When it’s hot, it’s scorching and when cold it’s freezing. Going for a safari is an all new amazing experience and so it will be better if you purchase new safari clothes and avoid packing the ones in the wardrobe. You will get the opportunity to pick clothes that are made of good material, right safari colors as well as light in weight. Remember comfort is important. Laundry services may be offered at the lodge or hotel at a fee. If you are on a long safari and get tired of recycling, you can have your clothes washed and ironed.

Footwear is important

A pair of shoes or boots can make or ruin your safari adventure. Men sometimes over look this, thinking that whatever they have will work. Men who think like that have found safaris very difficult to enjoy. It is best that you purchase your shoes and make sure you wear them before your trip. They should be sturdy and long-lasting especially if you are to go on the guided walks. Endeavour to get shoes or boots that wrap the ankles. These will protect you from insects and bushes as you hike through the forest. High quality water-resistant boots or shoes are also recommended. Water- resistant boots or shoes are also recommended as long as they are of high quality.

Safari Jackets

It’s usually cold in the morning and late evening, so you will need to pack a safari jacket or even a bush jacket. These are mostly needed for the early morning game rides in the park. Remember to keep the colors natural and the material must be good enough to provide you with enough warmth. Functionality jackets will work out for you on your trip, you can easily move with small items such as binoculars, guide books and camera. Try to pack safari clothing that is functional.

Safari Hats

Safari hats come in handy especially when it gets too hot and you need to protect yourself from the scorching sun. Get yourself a safari hat with a wider brim that can enable you spot animals at a distance. A good pair of sunglasses will make a tremendous difference for your safari. Characteristics of a good safari hat must have a breathable material to allow perspiration. Waterproof hats will be good for the sudden rains. Your hat must be firm on your head and so you need a chin strap so that the wind doesn’t blow it off. A safari hat and a good pair of sunglasses can actually make you enjoy your trip a lot more.

The Best men’s Clothes

Functionality is crucial when choosing men’s safari clothing. The long and short sleeved shirts can be used at any time of the day depending on the weather. Shirts with many side pockets will be good for men; they can keep a few small items which may be need along the way. Men should try to find and wear khaki clothes for a neat and elegant look.

Avoid camouflage clothing; you could easily be mistaken for a poacher or hunter and arrested. The best clothes for men are designed with lightweight fabric made out of linen and cotton to absorb the heat and still make you comfortable on your safari. Remember to carry safari gear. If you are too busy to go out shopping, you can shop online. The prices are affordable and there is variety clothing that comes in different designs, sizes and colors; you are sure to find something to suit your needs. With the right Safari clothing, you can be sure to experience the true wilderness of Africa.
