There’s no time like the present to book your 2024 getaway. There’s a massive travel fair happening this weekend, and up to 370,000 Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Scoot discounts will be on sale. Discounted tickets will be released online from November 3 to 16, but show up at the Time to Travel Fair at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre Halls 405 and 406 this weekend to snag more lucky draw prizes and exclusive giveaways. Singapore Airlines announces inaugural KrisFlyer Fest

On 23 & 24 June 2023, head to Changi Jewel for the inaugural edition of KrisFlyer Fest: miles, merchandise, and merriment.

Well, this looks like a fun little shindig.

Singapore Airlines has announced the inaugural KrisFlyer Fest, a carnival featuring food, games and activities, with prizes up for grabs through quizzes and lucky draws. The first edition will take place at Jewel Changi Airport on 23 & 24 June 2023 , dovetailing nicely with the end of the school holidays.

KrisFlyer Fest will be held next weekend at Jewel Changi Airport’s Cloud9 Piazza. This is a nice little spot (well, not so little- it takes about 400 people standing) that overlooks the Rain Vortex, and has been used to host other events like the annual Glampcation packages. 

Here’s an idea of what to expect.

Earn 9 mpd with Kris+

All payments at KrisFlyer Fest will be made via the Kris+ app, with a fixed rate of 9 mpd on offer. You ought to know the drill by now- pair the app with the right credit card to earn a bonus 3-6 mpd.

What’s the best card to use for Kris+?

I’d recommend in particular that you pay with a Mastercard (e.g. DBS WWMC , Citi Rewards + Amaze, UOB Lady’s Card or KrisFlyer UOB Card ) in order to earn chances for the lucky draw (see below).

We don’t know the line up of merchants yet, but I sure hope there’s airplane-themed food for all those who missed 2020’s Inside Singapore Airlines.

Redeem a mystery gift

On arrival, be sure to collect your KrisFlyer Fest Passport. Completing activities earns you stamps, and a completed passport (four stamps) can be exchanged for a mystery gift.

Whatever this gift is, it’s limited to the first 1,500 redemptions per day.

No, it’s not a bottle of Dom.

Sure-win quizzes

Quizzes will take place throughout the day on the main stage, with prizes including 10,000 KrisFlyer miles, an SIA Poker Set by KrisShop, limited edition Pokémon x Scoot merchandise, KrisPay miles and more. Participants will also walk away with an exclusive KrisFlyer merchandise goodie bag.

If I were the quizmaster, I’d set questions like: what percentage of KrisFlyer waitlists eventually clear, where did the hot towels go, and will the new Business Class seats on the B777X have doors?

You know, simple stuff everyone should know. 

KrisFlyer Fest will be running a lucky draw with prizes like KrisFlyer & KrisPay miles, Pelago & Scoot vouchers, and various hotel stays to be won. 

To participate, you’ll need to register for the KrisFlyer Fest Lucky Draw Challenge in the Challenges section of the app. 

Once registered, make 2x Kris+ payment transactions of at least S$10 each using a Mastercard debit or credit card (via Apple or Google Pay) at any participating booth at KrisFlyer Fest.

You can earn up to two bonus chances when you complete either of these activities on 23 & 24 June 2023:

• Make a booking on Pelago (via Kris+) using a Mastercard debit/credit card
• Make a purchase on KrisShop (via Kris+) using a Mastercard debit/credit card

In other words, the maximum chances you can earn is three.

Do note that the lucky draw does not take place at KrisFlyer Fest; the draw will be conducted on 30 June and winners informed via email within seven working days.

The inaugural edition of KrisFlyer Fest takes place next weekend, and I’m personally planning to head down on the first day. If any of you are planning to visit, do come and say hi (and if you mean me bodily harm, know that I am highly adept at curling into a ball and voiding my bowels as a defence mechanism)

It could be an informal sort of MileLion community gathering- goodness knows we’re overdue for one!

Singapore Airlines (SIA) will offer discounts on more than 170,000 Business Class, Premium Economy Class, and Economy Class round-trip tickets from Singapore to 71 destinations at its upcoming Time to Fly travel fair.

The discounts are applicable for eligible flights[1], for travel between January and September 2024. Online sales will be between 3 and 16 November 2023 on the SIA website and mobile application, as well as through SIA-appointed travel agents.

These discounted tickets, as well as exclusive travel deals from participating travel agents and partners, will also be available during the physical three-day Time to Fly travel fair, which takes place from 3 to 5 November 2023 at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre’s halls 405 and 406. The fair will also feature exclusive deals on 200,000 one-way tickets from Scoot, SIA’s low-cost subsidiary.

Mr Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer, Singapore Airlines, said: “Our biggest Time to Fly travel fair offers customers attractive discounts on 170,000 round-trip SIA tickets and 200,000 one-way Scoot tickets, from Singapore to around the world. SIA and Scoot are pleased to offer our customers greater options and value as they make their travel and holiday plans for 2024, and as we return to pre-pandemic levels of operations.”

During the physical three-day travel fair, customers will enjoy a line-up of events and engaging activities, stand a chance to receive exclusive giveaways, and win daily lucky draw prizes including a pair of Business Class round-trip tickets to Denpasar Bali (Indonesia), Male (the Maldives), Osaka (Japan), and Phuket (Thailand). Children will also have the chance to dress up as SIA cabin crew and pilots for a memorable photo opportunity.

Experience safe and seamless travel

Travellers, regardless of vaccination status, are also allowed to transit through Singapore on almost all SIA and Scoot flights as long as they meet the entry requirements of their final destination.

However, do note that passengers cannot transit through Singapore to a destination in Mainland China or Hong Kong SAR due to regulatory requirements. Passengers departing from Mainland China or Hong Kong will be allowed to transfer through Singapore Changi Airport en-route to their final destinations

Following the simplified travel protocols, the SIA Group opens up the entire SIA and Scoot network to all eligible customers, operating from 98 destinations in 35 countries to Singapore. 

SIA flies from Manila to Singapore four times daily, which conveniently connects to onward flights to the rest of the world. SIA flies from Davao and Cebu to Singapore on a daily circular flight, whereas Cebu-bound passengers departing from Singapore and Singapore-bound passengers departing from Davao will transit at Davao International Airport and Cebu-Mactan International Airport, respectively.

Major Singapore travel fair returns with more exhibitors

The annual NATAS Travel Fair, organised by the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS), will return from March 1 to 3 with 20 per cent more exhibitors compared to the last edition in February 2023.

The event, which is open to the public will be held at Singapore EXPO Halls 4 and 5A. Visitors can expect to snap up an array of travel itineraries, packages and deals curated by participating travel agents, as well as obtain travel ideas and advice from more than 60 exhibitors including airlines, cruise lines, NTOs, and travel-related suppliers.

The six NTOs joining NATAS Travel Fair 2024 are Central Japan, Hokkaido Tourism Organisation, Sarawak Trade And Tourism Office – Singapore, Taiwan Tourism Administration, Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Wonderful Indonesia.

The opening ceremony will be graced by Melissa Ow, chief executive of Singapore Tourism Board.

Steven Ler, president of NATAS, said: “NATAS is excited to welcome visitors who are eager to travel to the NATAS Travel Fair, a one-stop platform that aims to meet every traveller’s need. As the organisation representing travel agents in Singapore, we are pleased to be able to give travel agents and industry-related organisations a platform to showcase the different destinations, packages and deals they have to offer.”

NATAS Travel 2024 is proudly supporting Extra•Ordinary People (EPL), a non-profit charity with Institute of Public Character (IPC) in Singapore. EPL empowers children and youths with special needs, fostering their development of essential independent living skills that pave the way to increased employability. In partnership with EPL, NATAS aims to raise awareness about the importance of inclusivity in contributing to a harmonious and diverse society. During the three-day fair, EPL’s beneficiaries will take centre stage, showcasing their talents through heartfelt performances. Singapore HeritageFest 2024 from May 1 to 26 pays homage to the country’s sites and buildings

SINGAPORE - For 27-year-old Nor Syazwan Abdul Majid, Pulau Ubin is not merely an island, but also a symbol of rich cultural heritage.

His mother, Madam Noorriah Sulong, 65, grew up as part of the island’s Orang Pulau community and lived on Ubin for 20 years until 1979, when she moved to the mainland after getting married.

From listening to her stories about her life on the island, Mr Syazwan developed a fascination for the kampung lifestyle there and planned a guided tour to Ubin.

The Ubin tour is among more than 120 programmes hosted by the Singapore HeritageFest, which runs from May 1 to 26.

The 2024 festival, its 21st edition, celebrates Singapore’s built heritage and tells the stories behind the country’s buildings, sites and structures.

Mr Syazwan’s tour, the Malay Kampong Heritage Tour on Pulau Ubin, aims to educate the public about the relationship of the Ubin Orang Pulau (which means the people of Pulau Ubin) with the environment around them.

“It will be a tour from the main village to the Malay kampung (Kampung Sungei Durian) as well as the former Malay kampung (Kampung Surau) – a way for the (tour participants) to travel in time and for them to be able to actually experience what used to be there,” said Mr Syazwan.

The social work undergraduate at the Singapore University of Social Sciences also runs the online Wan’s Ubin Journal as another way to preserve the stories of the Ubin Orang Pulau community.

Another tour in the festival is (Her)story Of Samsui Women With Pauline Fun.

Ms Fun – a 53-year-old heritage researcher and former principal of CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent – is passionate about the history of samsui women, who were known for their trademark red headgear and found work as labourers in the construction industry.

Her grandparents moved from the Samsui region in China’s Guangdong province to Singapore in the 1930s, and her grandfather started a transport company to ferry samsui women to construction sites for work.

Through the tour, which takes participants around Chinatown, Ms Fun hopes to highlight the struggles of samsui women in Singapore. 

For those interested in architecture, the HeritageFest offers Architrek Through Time: An Architectural Odyssey Through Landmarks, Design, And Urban Lore, a series of weekend walking tours through downtown Singapore.

Helmed by architectural firm DP Architects, the tour features architectural landmarks, and delves into Singapore’s urban planning history and the various elements that are part of Singapore’s built environment.

“There are a lot of these stories that designers will know that we’d like to take the opportunity to share,” said Mr Ziggy Chua Zi Jun, a director at DP Architects. 

One landmark included in the tour is Golden Mile Complex, which was built in 1973 and is one of Singapore’s first modern buildings to be given conserved status. “It’s one of the key iconic buildings that one of our founding fathers built,” said Mr Chua. 

The festival will also go off the beaten track. Dark Changi, The Walking Tour includes a stop at Changi Creek, where there is a stone bridge believed to have been used for executions by Japanese soldiers.

It will be led by Mr Eugene Tay, founder of Supernatural Confessions, a platform for people to discuss their supernatural experiences.

Mr Tay – along with his co-host, playwright, director and theatre performer Jonathan Lim – is keen on expanding on the “notorious reputation” that Changi holds for its haunted tales.

“I was born and raised in Changi – it’s my own kampung. There is a lot about Changi that isn’t talked about,” said Mr Tay, who hopes the tour will create a “newfound appreciation” for Changi and allow its stories to live on.

Some tours are free to join, while others charge a fee. For example, it costs each participant $25 to join the Malay Kampong Heritage Tour, and $20 for Architrek Through Time: An Architectural Odyssey Through Landmarks, Design, And Urban Lore.

Referring to the featured buildings and sites, Singapore HeritageFest festival director David Chew said: “These are just structures that would not come to life if not for the stories and the history of the people who lived in them, those who passed away, worked and played in them, and it’s really the communities and these stories that make these buildings come to life.”

Other highlights of the festival include an installation, Homeground: We Built This City, held on the lawn of the National Museum of Singapore. It will feature the evolution of Singapore’s public housing, as well as a replica of the bandstand gazebo at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, the country’s first Unesco World Heritage Site.

The 2024 festival coincides with the 40th anniversary of Total Defence, which is commemorated with programmes highlighting Singapore’s military past, and the 35th anniversary of Singapore’s conservation programmes.

Total Defence was introduced in 1984 as a whole-of-society defence concept.

The annual Singapore HeritageFest (SHF) returns for its 21st edition with a lineup of over 120 programmes dedicated to celebrating the stories and living heritage behind Singapore’s buildings, sites and structures.

Like the many editions that came before, SHF 2024 will commemorate significant milestones in our nation’s history. This year marks the 35th year of Singapore’s conservation programme and the 40th year of Total Defence.

“Singapore’s buildings, sites and structures – our built heritage – are more than just brick and stone. They hold the stories and experiences of diverse communities past and present, and it is the people and their stories that bring these spaces to life,” said SHF Festival Director David Chew.

The festival, organised by the National Heritage Board (NHB), will run from May 1 to 26 with its array of island-wide activities, including workshops, tours, trials and exhibitions.

IF YOU LIKE WALKING

Highlights include the guided walking tours that explore the stories of the Straits Chinese communities. Festival-goers can visit the former home of Singapore Chinese Girls’ School and a 19th-century Straits Chinese home with the SHF’s 37 Emerald Hill Site Tours and Living Architecture: Conservation Tours at NUS Baba House, respectively. 

Another guided walking tour to look out for is (Her)story of Samsui Women led by Samsui-descendant Pauline Fun. "(It) is part of Qixi Fest’s (Her)Story series to share the lesser-known stories of our foremothers and the values they instill in our future generations," said Director of Qixi Fest Lynn Wong.

In line with the 40th year of Total Defence, there are also some military-themed activities. Notably, festival-goers will get the chance to live through an outfield camp experience and gear up for a ‘route march’ to SAFTI Military Institute at A Taste of Outfield Camp: Heritage in a Mess Tin. 

SHF has even prepared something for aspiring ghost hunters. Dark Changi, The Walking Tour, for example, has the Walk with Hantu: Changi experience, bringing paranormal fans to the supposed haunted sites.

The Hop-On, Hop-Off (HOHO) Bus Experience will bring participants on a journey to Singapore's historical precincts, such as Little India and Bras Basah.Bugis. OTHER PROGRAMMES

You can also look forward to  programmes that delve into Singapore’s maritime heritage and evolving educational institutions, as well as the  return of the SHF signatures.

One of these signatures, the Ride & Discover programme, which reimagines MRT stations and trains as exhibition spaces, will feature panels with stories of Singapore’s landmarks and structures at four MRT stations – Dhoby Ghaut, Bugis, Queenstown and Tanjong Pagar.

Meanwhile, this year's Homeground installation can be found on the lawn of the National Museum of Singapore. It will feature five displays that show the evolution of our public housing and a landmark of our first UNESCO World Heritage Site, Singapore Botanic Garden’s bandstand gazebo.
