Springsteen announced the dates for his 2023 European tour in May, explaining on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio that after nearly five years off the road it was time for him to get the band back together. “It’s kind of mind boggling to be honest with you… IT doesn’t feel that long, but,  you know, we stayed busy over that time, but still it’s, I’m really, I’ve got the Jones to play live very badly at this point,” Springsteen said of getting back at it with the band for the first time since they recorded 2020’s  Letter to You  album. “So, I’m deeply looking forward to getting out there in front of our fans.”

The group is gearing up to hit the road for the first time since the conclusion of their 14-month global River Tour, which kicked off in 2016. According to a release announcing the new dates, since the 2023 European dates were announced in May more than 1.2 million tickets have already been sold. After the end of the European run — scheduled for April-July 2023 — the band will begin a second as-yet-unannounced string of North American shows in August; tour dates in the UK are also slated for next year, with the details to be announced soon.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Detail 2023 U.S. Tour

Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen has detailed the North American leg of his 2023 tour with the E Street Band . The North American stint, which kicks off next February, begins in Tampa and extends to April, with the final U.S. date (for now) taking place at Newark’s Prudential Center in Springsteen’s home state of New Jersey. Check out the dates below.

Springsteen’s dates with Stevie Van Zandt, Max Weinberg, Patti Sciafla, Roy Bittan, Gary Tallent, Nils Lofgren, and the rest will be their first together since 2017. His previously announced run of European shows goes from late April to late July.

In an initial announcement of the tour, which did not include dates or venue details, Springsteen said, “After six years, I’m looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year. And I’m looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year—and beyond!”

Springsteen’s latest solo albums are 2019’s Western Stars and 2020’s Letter to You , which both had accompanying films. He put out a podcast and book with Barack Obama in 2021, and released the Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts as an album and film the same year.

bruce springsteen u.s. tour

At last, Bruce Springsteen fans can let go over their angst over whether the performer will reach Los Angeles and many other areas left off the first leg of his U.S. tour this year… and move on to the angst of the difficulty of getting tickets. The fact that some of the added gigs are in stadiums instead of arenas may ameliorate at least some of those concerns, though.

Out west, where the dates go indoors and into arenas instead of stadiums, hopes will be particularly high that added shows are in the cards, even though he is playing mostly single-nighters in arenas on the first leg. In L.A., two dates at the Forum have been announced, which is unlikely to meet demand. Springsteen used to play as many as seven nights at the now-demolished Sports Arena, although he stopped there for only three when he closed the place down in March 2016 on the E Street Band’s “The River” tour.

Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan pre-registration page for the tour is open through the end of the day this coming Sunday and can be found here .

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Announce 2023 World Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are launching a long-awaited world tour in February 2023 with a run of U.S. arena shows. Dates and cities for those concerts have yet to be announced. Check out brucespringsteen.net for ticketing information.

“After six years, I’m looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year,” Springsteen said in a statement. “And I’m looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year — and beyond.”

The musicians will start a European stadium leg April 28, 2023 in Barcelona, and follow it up with a second North American tour in August. In addition to Barcelona, the European tour will hit cities including London, Dublin, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Zurich, Gothenburg, Oslo, Copenhagen, Vienna and Munich. Cities and shows for the UK and Belgium will be announced at a later date.

The tour will mark Springsteen’s first concerts with the E Street Band since February 2017, when they wrapped up their River tour in Australia. During the downtime, Springsteen released 2019’s Western Stars and 2020’s Letter to You , reprised his Springsteen on Broadway show, and co-hosted the Renegades: Born in the USA podcast with President Barack Obama.

This is the longest break the E Street Band have taken from the road since reforming in 1999. The band’s sole recent public performance took place on Dec. 20, 2020, when they played two songs on Saturday Night Live — but bassist Garry Tallent and violinist/guitarist Soozie Tryell sat it out due to Covid restrictions. They’ll be back in the fold for this tour, alongside pianist Roy Bittan, guitarist Nils Lofgren, guitarist Steve Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg, saxophonist Jake Clemons, and keyboardist Charlie Giordano.

Springsteen and the E Street Band were originally slated to tour this year, and planning was so far along that an advertisement for a June 2022 show at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany was spotted at a bus stop — but the tour was ultimately delayed a year. While no official reason was given for the postponement, the decision came just as Covid numbers were spiking due to the Omicron variant.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band deliver the most thrilling live concert moment ever

Portrait of Melissa Ruggieri

WASHINGTON, D.C. – For more than an hour, Bruce Springsteen played .

No talking, other than to bellow “WASHINGTON!” as the first notes of “No Surrender” unfurled from the instruments of the E Street Band.

No posing, other than his iconic stance – surely unintentional by now – of leaning forward with his trusty Fender guitar dangling down his back.

Just an opening parade of sinewy songs from 1978 (“Prove it All Night,” “The Promised Land”) to 2020 (“Ghosts,” “Letter To You”), all presented with the vigor of a man three decades younger than Springsteen’s apparently ageless 73.

On Monday,  nearly two months into a tour six years in the making, Springsteen and the incomparable E Street Band blasted through two hours and 45 minutes of relentless musical history with smiles, shared microphones, slapped hands and ace musicianship.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

As the crew winds down this first run of U.S. arena shows – they head to Europe in late April, come back for  stateside stadium dates starting Aug. 9 in Chicago and return to arenas to circle the West in November and December – here are some reminders about why they are so treasured.

Bruce Springsteen’s set list is packed with highlights

Let’s back into this. “Born to Run,” performed during the encore with the houselights up, is still the most thrilling live concert moment ever.

Not engaging in any arguments.

It just is.

But before a closing slate of songs worthy of an Encore Hall of Fame (“Thunder Road,” “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” “Dancing in the Dark” among them), Springsteen and the band barely breathed during a marathon of music. Debut songs from 2020’s excellent “Letter to You” album – including the title track – couched with a deliciously soulful “Nightshift” from his current “Only the Strong Survive” covers album, inserted with the surprise of “Trapped,” Springsteen’s cover of the 1972 Jimmy Cliff memory.

But the show’s pinnacle moment was “Kitty’s Back,” an effortless segue from “Candy’s Room,” that spotlighted the four-piece E Street Horns joining saxophonist Jake Clemons . Springsteen air conducted the horn section before wringing sweet high notes from his guitar, his face the picture of pained ecstasy. It’s an exhaustive achievement.

The E Street Band is a collection of MVPs

Springsteen performing solo is always moving and memorable.

But Springsteen performing with his trusty team, including consigliere/guitarist Steven Van Zandt coolly observing the crowd and scampering around in his Hugh-Hefner-meets-“Pirates of the Caribbean” garb, is the stuff of magic.

Max Weinberg remains a human metronome who still never breaks a sweat and evokes stamina envy in every drummer; few sticksmen besides Charlie Watts and Larry Mullen Jr. have done so much with such a basic setup.

Nils Lofgren might not whirl as much as he did in younger days, but his unfettered guitar solo and air kicks during “Because the Night” showcased his innate passion.

Roy Bittan’s piano segment during “Kitty’s Back” simply dazzled, and the steady undercurrent of melody he provides in Springsteen’s songs should never be discounted.

Bassist Garry Tallent, in his banker’s attire and shades, is the unobtrusive anchor of every song that flies off the stage.

And let’s not forget honorary E Streeters Soozie Tyrell, a multifaceted magician on fiddle, guitar, tambourine and backing vocals, and Jake Clemons, who has earned every massive clap he receives more than a decade after stepping into the long shadow of his famed – and beloved – uncle Clarence Clemons .

Springsteen and the E Street Band are healthy and hearty

Since the tour kickoff, multiple members have missed shows because of COVID-19, including Lofgren, Clemons, Tyrell and Van Zandt. In March, three shows were postponed in Connecticut, New York and Ohio (all have been rescheduled for fall) because of unspecified “illness” within the band.

But on Monday in D.C., the mighty E Street team was at peak strength, though Springsteen’s wife, Patti Scialfa, was not present onstage – not an unusual occurrence as she typically only pops in for certain shows throughout a tour.

Springsteen concert tickets are selling, regardless of price

The Boss ignited rare pushback from his devoted base when ticket prices were unveiled last summer. Though the cost to see Springsteen is comparable to other major music stars touring this year – Taylor Swift , Beyoncé , Madonna – some fans, including the loyal team behind the long-running fan site, Backstreets , complained that even the small proportion of tickets selling for thousands of dollars were too many for this working class hero.

But prices didn’t become the roadblock many predicted.

At D.C.’s Capital One Arena, hardly a speck of space could be found, with every seat – including those behind the stage – filled and a general admission pit at the front of the stage packed (the venue holds more than 20,000).

A look at some of the remaining spring arena dates indicate few are balking. Madison Square Garden (Saturday) is sold out, Baltimore (April 7) has a dozen or so tickets for $299 and the closing date of the current U.S. arena run in Newark (April 14) is also sold out.

Bruce Springsteen, born September 23, 1949, is an American rock singer and songwriter. Hailing proudly from the Jersey Shore, he is known for his literate and poetic lyrics, working-class sentiments, and marathon live shows.

Springsteen is lauded as one of the best songwriters of all time. His lyrics deal with working-class struggles, values, and desires. The verses in Springsteen's songs often tell stories about people who have fallen on hard times. Known for his political and social activism, his song lyrics repeatedly address those issues within the context of the everyday struggles of the common man.

Springsteen is considered an originator of heartland rock, a subgenre of rock music associated with the working class in the Rust Belt and Midwestern US. Other prominent heartland rock musicians include Tom Petty and Bob Segar.

Springsteen grew up in Freehold, New Jersey, with his parents and two younger sisters, Virginia and Pamela. His father held numerous working-class jobs during his lifetime and struggled with mental health issues that became more severe as he aged. Springsteen was a loner throughout his childhood and adolescence, preferring to play his guitar over socializing with his classmates and peers. His family eventually moved to California when Springsteen was 19 years old, but he chose to remain in New Jersey.

After watching an Elvis Presley performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956, a 13-year-old Springsteen felt inspired to take up music, and his mother bought him his first guitar. Springsteen began to play publicly at trailer parks and local venues like Elks Lodges. In his early 20s he performed in a string of bands, including the Beatles-influenced Castiles, the hard rock bands Earth and Cream, and the big band Dr. Zoom & the Sonic Boom. He later created the Bruce Springsteen Band, which was the first group to feature legendary saxophonist Clarence Clemons.

Springsteen signed to Columbia Records in 1972 and released two albums in 1973: Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle. The albums were both recorded with his backing band, featuring Danny Federici, Vini Lopez, David Sancious, Garry Tallent, and Clemon. The two albums were met with critical acclaim, but neither was a financial success. Lopez and Sancious soon departed, making way for drummer Max Weinberg and pianist Roy Bittan. The revised line-up, now dubbed The E Street Band, made its debut on Springsteen’s breakthrough album Born to Run in 1975.

Following years of financial and contractual legal disputes with producers, Springsteen didn’t release any material until 1978 with the album Darkness of the Edge of Town. Despite a fresh wave of heartland rock musicians and a new trend toward the punk/new wave scene, the album performed well in the charts and earned good reviews.

Springsteen’s career took off in the 80s. He released the two-LP The River in 1980, featuring the hits “Hungry Heart” and “Fade Away,” the experimental Nebraska in 1982, and the hugely-popular and internationally-acclaimed Born in the U.S.A. in 1984. All performed well, and Born in the U.S.A. sold over 15 million copies and earned the songwriter his first of 20 Grammy Awards.

At the same time, Springsteen and the band staged a long series of impressive and energetic live shows. Springsteen released a five-LP CD box set titled Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Live/1975-85, which became certified platinum 13 times.

With a swelling fan base, consistent critical acclaim, and considerable commercial success, it seemed Springsteen could do no wrong. The singer continued this trend with the release of Tunnel of Love in 1987, then simultaneously released Human Touch and Lucky Town in 1992. The latter two were recorded with a new back up after Springsteen dissolved the E Street Band in 1989.

Following the release of a Greatest Hits album in early 1995 and another low-key folk album in the same vein as Nebraska titled The Ghost of Tom Joad, Springsteen released a whopping four-CD box set of unreleased material that highlighted the songwriter’s prolific talents. The E Street Band returned for a performance upon Springsteen’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which was followed by a world tour and the album Live in New York City.

Springsteen subsequently released the albums The Rising in 2001, a reflection on the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the folk-styled Devils & Dust in 2005, the rock-inspired Magic in 2007 Working on a Dream in 2009; a box-set rerelease of Darkness on the Edge of Town in 2010, Wrecking Ball in 2012, and High Hopes in 2014.

Springsteen released a compilation album titled Chapter and Verse in September 2016 that contained previously-unheard material dating back to the mid-1960s. Following the album's release, Springsteen embarked on The River 2016 Tour. The tour became the highest-grossing global tour of 2016, pulling in nearly US $3 million worldwide. Springsteen penned an autobiography in 2016 as well. The book, titled Born to Run, climbed to the top of the New York Times Best Sellers List.

In late 2018, a live album Springsteen on Broadway was released. The album reached number 11 on the US Billboard chart.

In 2020, Springsteen released the singles "Letter to You" and "Ghosts," leading up to the release of his 20th studio album, Letter to You.

On December 14, 2021, Springsteen gave a surprise performance at the John Henry's Friends benefit concert for autistic children.

Following the release of the singles "Turn Back the Hands of Time," "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)," "Don't Play That Song," and "Nightshift," Springsteen's most recent studio album was announced in September 2022 and was released that November. Only the Strong Survive featured multiple covers of classic soul songs from the ’60s and ’70s.

After 40 years of cultivating a reputation as a relentless, high-energy performer, Springsteen is still touring regularly. He's headlined nearly 20 tours over the course of his musical career, and is known for his marathon performances. One of his shows at Citizens Bank Park lasted an astonishing 4 hours and 4 minutes.

The singer and musician has maintained remarkable popularity over his prolific career, selling over 64 million albums in the US, 120 million albums worldwide. He has earned 20 Grammy awards, two Golden Globes, and is an inducted member of both the Rock & Roll and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. President Barack Obama awarded Springsteen the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.

In May 2022, Springsteen announced a 2023 international tour with the E Street Band, the first since 2017. The tour will continue across the US through 2023 before heading to Europe. To keep up with Bruce Springsteen tour dates and venues, check out his official website.

Live reviews

True to his ‘everyman’ image, Springsteen is obviously the master of ceremonies no matter who is on stage with him, but he manages to do so without grandstanding. Steven Van Zandt (who will always be Silvio Dante to me) and Nils Lofgren were always at the mic with him. Jake Clemons was allowed to shine on sax in tribute to his late uncle as well. Max Weinberg was always projecting from the big screens that hung above, all while holding things down from the back of the stage. Even when the crowd was yelling “Bruuuuuuce” as he came down the platform into the audience for some crowd surfing during “Hungry Heart”, there was no doubt that the whole thing was a group effort – a true family affair. The audience was the tenth member of the E Street Band as well. When Springsteen’s fingers weren’t on his guitar or snapping and waving around, he used them to slap and shake every outreached hand available to him. “Denver, I got a crush on you!” “I’ve got one question, where are the marijuana gummy bears!” “Let me hear all you mountain girls out there!” I’m sure every audience receives the same treatment, but when he’s in your city, it truly is the only city that matters.

At one point the crowd was tricked into supporting young love; the kind “without consequence or responsibility”. “It doesn’t exist! What are you applauding for?!” he joked, before reassuring the young couples in the crowd with “It’s not the real thing, but it’s a good place to start.” It was just another one of those simple, but profound truths Springsteen is famous for. The production value of the show was simple as well. The open stage allowed the audience to see the band from every angle. The trio of screens were situated up high and were there to augment the view for those in the 300 sections. No pyrotechnics or technological enhancements are need at a Bruce Springsteen show; it really is all about the music. That’s why I couldn’t help but wish the setting had been some place like Red Rocks instead of Pepsi Center. There is something just so real and human and natural about what he does, so it’s kind of sad that it had to take place in a corporate arena. But no matter the venue, we all continued the journey through the second half of The River without pause.

Bruce never disappoints! The usual 31/2 show was 4 hours last night. An apparently Christmas in jersey this year is in August because Santa Claus is coming to town.

Tenth avenue freeze out had Bruce walk/run to ( for the 2nd time in the night) to a platform in the middle of the floor, while the giant screens had a great tribute to band members who left us too soon.

4 lucky fans had a dream come true when Bruce allowed them on stage to sing/dance. The funniest being a sign that said 'who wants to dance with this old bald guy' to which Bruce said, 'I do!' And he danced with him to dancing in the dark... Class act in my opinion.

Now I know he can't play everything, however, no thunder road, glory days or trapped left this fan a little disappointed.

Bruce closed out the show with 'shout' as only Bruce does with a great firework display.

My advice? If you ever have a chance to go to a Bruce show--GO! His shows and set list are different every time and it's one of the best shows you will ever see!! Ive never actually counted but last night was probably somewhere between my 30-40th show and I may just go back next Tuesday. Hope to see you all there!

You can say "there's nothing like seeing this band in concert" about almost any band if you like them enough, but Bruce Springsteen is on a completely different level.

This isn't just a musician. This is The Boss. This is Bruce Springsteen. A Springsteen concert is a unique experience every time. He's not afraid to go deep into his repertoire of songs, but he's also not scared to bust out the big hits when he feels like it. Whether it's 'Thundercrack' or 'I'm on Fire', he tears through every song like a man with true purpose.

It's clear, from the very beginning until the end, that this is a true musician, a true artist. Especially for someone who has been consistently performing for decade after decade, it's a rare and beautiful thing to see someone who still cares about what they do, even when it's a song that he has been performing for more than three decades. There's a reason why he will be remembered for a long, long time.

If you get a chance to see him the way I have, the way that millions have, please do not pass the chance up. If you never see Bruce perform live, you are doing yourself a great disservice.

Very very disappointing, we feel a bit cheated.

Stadium (standing) full of way too drunk people who constantly banged into you and barged in front of you spilling and throwing beer as they went. Folk standing have a full on conversation about Eastenders (honestly!) and shouting and bawling over the top of the "music". Impossible to see The Boss on the stage and struggled to see the big screens (due to said drunks pushing in and standing right in front of you and then point blank refusing to move, some getting stroppy when politely asked to move aside, one woman had her water completely knocked out of her hand beside us by a drunk girl who when reprimanded let loose a tirade of abuse to poor woman - who incidentally had got a shock as the girl came flying from nowhere)

The sound was terrible! The sound seemed to bounce off the stands and caused a really bad echo, which was actually painful to listen to! I struggled to make out which song he was singing quite a few times. Never ever going to Hampden again for a gig, been twice and both were bad. Waste of our hard earned money :( Only plus was the sun shone!

Every concert I have been to to see Bruce has been amazing - Wembley, Milton Keynes, 2 nights running at the Arsenal Stadium (the highlight!), Cardiff, Hyde Park and Coventry. I have been a fan of his since 1980 when I was studying in Freiburg, Germany and met a group of American students doing a Junior Year Abroad - one in particular was a fan and played Bruce to me - I was hooked.

My first concert was at Wembley, "Born in the USA", but the lyrics of earlier albums were the ones that had already seized my heart, especially 4th July, Asbury Park (Sandy). I have experienced so many emotions and especially great happiness listening to his music. It has been impossible to find anyone who can match him live, although I have been to many concerts by other great artists. There is no-one so incredible live as THE BOSS!

Magnificent! There are very few artists who can play non stop for over three hours and leave you wishing it hadn't finished. I'd go again tomorrow.

He played lots of songs I know, most of his greats, but could have done another hour with some top songs he left out (Born in the USA, I'm on fire, Brilliant Disguise, etc). His voice is as good as it ever was (unlike Rod, Elton, Macca and others of similar age)

Audience interaction was fantastic. One guy came in a Santa suit. Bruce spotted him, got him up on stage and changed the set to do Santa Claus is coming to town, which just rocked the stadium. Lots of other examples throughout the night. A great gig from a great showman, true legend. Seen him twice, about 30 years apart, much better now than he was then.

OMG——HAVE LOVED BRUCE FOREVER!!! The River was my 1 st concert; I think The Rising was next, Devils and Dust, his acoustic tour etc etc. I think It’s been about 6 or 7. NEVER ENOUGH!!! I live in Wisconsin, read that one of our senators—Jon Erpenbach took a second job to follow Bruce’s concerts around. Don’t I wish!! Remember the old master card ads?? Here’s my version concerning Bruce: Tickets—75 dollars, Parking—20 dollars, Feeling like a teenager again for 3 hours: PRICELESS!!!

I first saw Bruce in 1976 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. Next, was at the Hanger in Hazlet, NJ where he just popped in and ended up jamming with Gary US Bonds. Next, saw him in San Diego at Jack Murphy Stadium. Then, he followed me (lol) to Italy where I saw him in Torino. Then he followed me to Iowa (lol) where my husband & I took our daughter to see him in Des Moines. Her first concert. I am waiting to see him again soon, where I will hold a sign saying, I AM A JERSEY GIRL!

Bruce Springsteen dispels farewell tour rumors: 'I ain't going anywhere'

"Farewell to what? Thousands of people screaming your name? Yeah, I wanna quit that," the rocker teased.

She joined EW in August 2022.

He’s tougher than the rest!

During a recent concert at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Bruce Springsteen took a moment to debunk ongoing rumors about his potential retirement plans and the possibility of a farewell tour.

“We’ve been around 50 f---ing years and we ain’t quitting!” The Boss declared in footage from the event shared on social media. “We ain’t doing no farewell tour bulls---! Jesus Christ! No farewell tour for the E Street Band!”

The 20-time Grammy winner could be seen smiling and laughing behind his microphone as he shot down the idea.

“Hell no… Farewell to what? Thousands of people screaming your name? Yeah, I wanna quit that,” Springsteen teased, putting his hand to his ear as the crowd cheered in response. “That’s it. That’s all it takes. I ain’t goin’ anywhere.”

The “Born in the USA” singer’s remarks come amid increased speculation from fans about the future of his career. In the last year alone, Springsteen has postponed several concerts due to health concerns, most recently rescheduling three European shows citing vocal issues in May.

Last fall, Springsteen also postponed all of his 2023 tour dates from September until the end of the year due to peptic ulcer disease. “Thanks to all my friends and fans for your good wishes, encouragement, and support,” he said in a statement at the time. “I’m on the mend and can't wait to see you all next year."

Springsteen and the E Street Band are next scheduled to take to the stage at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 7. They will continue to perform throughout the U.S. and Canada through November, before returning to Europe to complete the postponed dates next summer.

If you somehow haven’t had a chance to see Bruce Springsteen perform live yet, fear not. Based on what The Boss said at a recent concert, you’ll still have plenty of opportunities to see Bruce and The E Street Band.

Springsteen, 74, addressed the potential for a farewell tour while performing in Philadelphia Friday night. And it doesn’t sound like a Springsteen swan song is coming any time soon.

“We’ve been around for 50 f------ years, and we ain’t quitting,” Springsteen told the Citizens Bank Park crowd on Friday. “We ain’t doing no farewell tour bull----! Jesus Christ! No farewell tour for the E Street Band! Farewell to what? A thousand people screaming your name? Get the hell out. I ain’t going anywhere!”

It isn’t just Springsteen’s age that has some wondering how much longer the Garden State rocker can keep performing. The Philadelphia shows that took place Wednesday and Friday were initially scheduled for summer 2023, but were postponed — along with the rest of the group’s 2023 slate — due to Springsteen’s peptic ulcer disease .

Springsteen addressed the cancelation during the performance as well.

“My belly was f------ killing me! It hurt when I breathed. Anything I did. If I got up out of a chair, my belly hurt. If I tried to sing, my belly hurt. If I went to play the guitar, my belly hurt. If I want to kiss my baby, my belly hurt,” Springsteen said during the show, according to Rolling Stone . All in all I just laid there there thinking, ‘F----, I’d rather be in Philadelphia.’”

The next chance New Jersey will have to see Springsteen will be at the Sea Hear Now festival on the Asbury Park beach Sept. 15. The show is sold out.

Bruce Springsteen shuts down retirement chatter at Philadelphia show

Bruce Springsteen performs with the E Street Band at Citizens Bank Park on August 21, 2024 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer , who turns 75 next month, put the rumors to rest that he was throwing in the towel to a decades-long career during his latest tour stop.

“We’ve been around 50 f—ing years and we ain’t quitting!” he informed the sold out audience at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia last weekend.

“No farewell tour for the E Street Band!” Springsteen assured concert goers in fan footage that circulated on social media this week.

He continued: “Hell no . . . Farewell to what? Thousands of people screaming your name? Yeah, I wanna quit that. That’s it. That’s all it takes. I ain’t goin’ anywhere.”

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band perform at PPG PAINTS Arena on August 15, 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Last September, the “Born in the USA” hitmaker postponed a number of concert dates to receive treatment for peptic ulcer disease . Also known as PUD, the fairly common condition occurs when open sores accumulate in the lining of the stomach or small intestine.

“Thank you for your understanding and support,” he wrote at the time, expressing how he and the E Street Band were “heartbroken” for the necessary pause in performances. “We’ve been having a blast at our U.S. shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”

The 20-time Grammy winner , who recently achieved billionaire status, resumed touring in March but ended up suspending European concert dates under “doctor’s directions” in late May.

He and the E Street Band are scheduled to headline the 2024 Sea. Hear. Now Festival on Sept. 15 in his hometown of Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Sea Hear Now co-headliner Noah Kahan to appear on PBS Bruce Springsteen 'Nebraska' special

Portrait of Chris Jordan

Bruce Springsteen fans attending the upcoming Sea Hear Now fest in Asbury Park might want to pay extra attention to co-headliner Noah Kahan.

The Vermont singer-songwriter covers the Boss' “Atlantic City” on the upcoming “Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska: A Celebration in Words and Music,” a narrated concert performance airing on PBS stations beginning on Saturday, Aug. 31 and available now on the PBS Passport service.

Emmylou Harris (“The Price You Pay,” “Nebraska”), Lyle Lovett (“Used Cars,” “My Father’s House”) and The Lumineers (“Mansion on the Hill,” “State Trooper”) also play in the show, which showcases songs from Springsteen's lo-fi classic “Nebraska,” released in 1982.

The album is composed of demos Springsteen recorded on a Teac 4-track recorder in a Colts Neck farmhouse. The original intent was to record and release the songs with the E Street Band, but the decision was made to leave them as they were.

Eric Church (“Dancing in the Dark”) and Lucinda Williams (“Born in the U.S.A.”) also perform. Their songs are from the “Nebraska” follow up, “Born in the U.S.A.”

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

The performances were filmed Sept. 9, 2023, at Analog at the Hutton Hotel in Nashville.

Warren Zanes, author of “Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska,” provides narration for the special.

“I wrote a book about 'Nebraska' because the recording stayed with me over decades,” said Zanes in a statement. “Every time there was trouble in my life I reached for 'Nebraska.' When I started doing events around the book’s publication, I quickly realized the best of them had music. When I went to Nashville, I had a remarkable cast of musicians to help me tell this story.”

A movie version of “Deliver Me from Nowhere” is in the works. Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”) is writing a screenplay and will direct and Jeremy Allen White, star of “The Bear,” will star as Springsteen.

Kahan, whose hits include “Stick Season,” “Northern Attitude,” “Dial Drunk and “Forever,” headlines Saturday, Sept. 14 at the upcoming Sea Hear Now on the beach in Asbury Park. His set is scheduled to begin 9 p.m. Springsteen and the E Street Band headline Sunday, Sept. 15 and they go on at 7:30 p.m.

The Gaslight Anthem, the Trey Anastasio Band, the Black Crowes, Norah Jones, 311, the Revivalists, Kool & The Gang, the Hives and more will play over the two days on the fest’s three stages on the North Beach and in Bradley Park.

Tickets are sold out. Prices for Sunday start at $450 on the secondary market. Visit www.seahearnow.com for more info.

In other news, Springsteen paid tribute in concert and online to the late Charles Cross, a music journalist and founder of the Springsteen journal Backstreets.

“His great writing and his influence and his help communicating between our band and our fans will be sorely missed,” said Springsteen Aug. 18 from the stage of the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh prior to a performance of “Backstreets.” “This is for Charles Cross.”

Cross, who also wrote biographies on Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix, passed away on Aug. 9 at the age of 67.
