Sonequa martin-green - michael burnham.

Sonequa Martin-Green plays Captain Michael Burnham, the adopted sister of Star Trek icon Mr. Spock. Burnham was given command of the series’ eponymous starship, the USS Discovery, at the end of the third season, after the cast wound up in the far-flung future of the 32nd Century.

Apart from her work on Discovery , which is undeniably her most well-known role, Martin-Green has also been a part of shows like The Walking Dead and The Good Wife .

Doug Jones - Saru

Veritable chameleon Doug Jones portrays Saru, Burnham’s first officer. Saru is a Kelpian, a species with a kind of biological early warning system that acts like a sixth sense. Saru has served as a fan-favorite since the series began, with many viewers calling for him to take on Discovery’s captain‘s chair.

Doug Jones has appeared in many major projects, but he is often completely unrecognizable, buried under prosthetics and makeup. He was Abe Sapien in the Hellboy movies and the Amphibian Man in 2017’s The Shape of Water .

Anthony Rapp - Paul Stamets

Anthony Rapp plays the groundbreaking role of Commander Paul Stamets, a science officer and one of the two first openly gay Star Trek characters (The other being Stamets’ husband Dr. Hugh Culber).

Rapp has long been a fixture of stage and screen, having performed as a part of several high-profile Broadway shows, such as Rent , in which he was an original cast member. 

Mary Wiseman - Sylvia Tilly

Sylvia Tilly, brought to life by Mary Wiseman, started the series as a quirky but very driven cadet on board Discovery. Later on in the series, after the crew’s one-way trip to the future, she took a teaching position at Starfleet Academy.

Mary Wiseman is most famous for her part as Tilly but she’s also appeared in Baskets and the Western show Longmire to name a few.

Wilson Cruz - Hugh Culber

Wilson Cruz plays Dr. Hugh Culber, one of the USS Discovery’s physicians. Earlier in the series, Culber was killed by another, out-of-control officer. But eventually, the good doctor was brought back to life through the use of the mycelial network.

Cruz cut his teeth on the classic 1990s teen drama My So-Called Life , playing Rickie. He’s additionally had roles on hits like Grey’s Anatomy , Monk , and The West Wing .

Blu del Barrio - Adira Tal

Adira Tal is portrayed by Blu del Barrio. The character’s backstory involved them becoming the host for a Trill symbiont called Tal, which they inherited from their romantic partner. Currently, Adira is a Starfleet ensign, having been granted commission in Season 3.

Blu del Barrio holds the significant distinction of being Star Trek ’s first openly non-binary actor. They are also a graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Callum Keith Rennie - Rayner

Callum Keith Rennie’s Rayner is a new character for Season 5 of Star Trek: Discovery . Rayner is a Kellerun, which is a species first introduced in the 1994 episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , “Armageddon Game”.

Rennie has a lengthy resume, starring in a vast array of Canadian shows and films. He has also acted in the Battlestar Galactica reboot as well as Showtime’s Californication .

David Ajala - Cleveland “Book” Booker

David Ajala plays Book, a man introduced to the crew upon their arrival in the year 3188. As a Kwejian, Book can empathically connect with plant and animal life, including his pet cat Grudge. He also has a close personal bond with Michael Burnham.

Alaja previously had roles in Nightflyers and CW’s Supergirl , where he played the villainous Manchester Black.

Eve Harlow - Moll

Moll, played by Eve Harlow, is a pirate who is seeking an ancient technology that has ties to the classic Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “The Chase”.

Eve Harlow has acted in favorites such as NCIS: Los Angeles and The Rookie . She also played the recurring character Tess on Agents of SHIELD .

Elias Toufexis - L’ak

L’ak, a green-skinned alien of unknown descent, is played by Elias Toufexis. He serves as Moll’s literal partner in crime.

Toufexis has appeared in another popular sci-fi series The Expanse , as well as several other television series, like Shadowhunters and Criminal Minds .

Oded Fehr - Charles Vance

Oded Fehr plays Admiral Charles Vance, who was introduced to Star Trek: Discovery in Season 3. As commander in chief of Starfleet, Vance wields a considerable amount of influence within the spacefaring organization.

Fehr would be best recognized for his character of Ardeth Bay in 1999’s The Mummy and its 2001 sequel. He’s also guested on shows such as The Blacklist and How to Get Away With Murder .

Chelah Horsdal - Laira Rillak

Laira Rillak, in addition to serving as Federation president, is of multi-species descent, a hybrid of human, Cardassian, and Bajoran genetics. Typically, Starfleet and Federation top brass are portrayed as having lesser quality moral fiber, but Rillak has stood out as an exception.

Chelah Horsdal has appeared in a wide variety of movies and series including Arrow , Hell on Wheels , and Rise of the Planet of the Apes .

Tara Rosling  - T’Rina

T’Rina is a Vulcan woman who first showed up in Discovery in the seventh episode of the third season. Since then, she has become romantically linked with Saru. T’Rina is also president of Ni’Var, the planet formerly known as Vulcan.

In addition to her Star Trek role, Rosling has also cropped up in The Expanse and The Handmaid’s Tale .

David Cronenberg - Kovich

David Cronenberg portrays Dr. Kovich, a Federation agent and galactic historian. Kovich first appeared in Discovery ’s third season and has gone on to become a well-liked recurring character.

As a veteran filmmaker, David Cronenberg is credited with bringing the genre of body horror into popular culture. His newest film, The Shroud , will hit theaters this year.

Tig Notaro - Jett Reno

Comedian Tig Notaro breathes life into Jett Reno, the fast-talking, wise-cracking Discovery engineer with a heart of gold. Reno has more than cemented herself as an audience favorite.

Alongside Notaro’s standup work, she’s had parts in Community , Bob’s Burgers , Suburgatory , and many more.

What Star Trek: Enterprise Actor Connor Trinneer Looks Like Today

Loyal, a self-proclaimed gentleman and a man of quick wit, "Star Trek: Enterprise" mainstay Charles "Trip" Tucker III (Connor Trinneer) is also a bit of a lothario as he cruises through space. If there's a green-skinned girl or a Romulan babe around, Trip will find a way to have a one-night stand with her — much to the occasional chagrin of Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula, whose Enterprise role almost never happened) . But Trip's life is colored by his love-hate relationship with T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) eventually turns into love and results in their finally getting together toward the end of "Enterprise"– only for fans to learn that they break up sometime in the distant future during the series finale "These Are the Voyages..." But the couple fortunately manages to salvage their friendship.

Trip ends up having one of the most heroic — and confusing — deaths in "Star Trek" history. Called upon to save Archer's life after Commander Thy'lek Shran's (Jeffrey Combs) men come to kill the captain. Trip crams the men into a supply closet and, in a hail mary move, blows them up as well as himself. But it's revealed after his death that the entire episode is just a holodeck simulation brought to life by William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes). That leaves a question mark hanging over every single event that takes place in "These Are the Voyages..."

While Trip's ultimate fate is now a matter of debate for fans in the "Star Trek" extended universe, Connor Trinneer has kept on working as a successful actor.

Connor Trinneer has kept up a steady acting career since Enterprise ended

Connor Trinneer's career has continued along at a steady pace since Trip Tucker's voyages came to an end. He recurred on "Stargate: Atlantis" for 10 episodes as Michael Kenmore and appeared in "Stargate: Origins" as Professor Langford. He was President George W. Bush in the Tom Cruise  vehicle "American Made." More recently, he played Curtis in 10 episodes of USA's series version of "The Purge," and five episodes of "9-1-1" as Randy. Trinneer also pops up in the Haylie Duff vehicle "The Wedding Pact 2: The Baby Pact" and "Meet the Fabelmans" as Phil Newhart.

Most interestingly, Trinneer reprised his role as Trip Tucker for "Star Trek: Very Short Treks." A set of animated shorts that celebrate the entire "Star Trek" universe and the 50th anniversary of "Star Trek: The Animated Series," it was posted to the official Star Trek YouTube Page. Trinneer shows up in "Holograms, All the Way Down." The piece lampoons Trip's death as one scene after another proves to be a simulation, to the point of crashing the Holodeck. Trinneer's legacy might be complicated by his character's death, but it's clear he's happy to have a bit of fun with the memorable-for-the-wrong-reasons situation.

"Star Trek: Discovery" Staffel 5 kommt auf DVD und Blu-Ray. Um den Release zu zelebrieren, haben wir exklusiv mit Saru-Darsteller Doug Jones im Interview gesprochen.

Doug Jones ist bekannt aus Filmen wie "Pans Labyrinth", "Hocus Pocus", "Crimson Peak" und dem Osacar-prämierten Film "The Shape of Water", in dem er das Wassermonster spielt. Der Mann, dessen Gesicht fast immer hinter einer Maske verborgen wird, spielt in " Star Trek: Discovery " ebenfalls mit und das natürlich hinter einer Maske.

Als Kelpianer Saru hat Doug Jones schnell die Gunst der Fans gewonnen und gehört heute zu den beliebtesten Charakteren der Serie. Netzwelt : Glückwunsch zu diesem siebenjährigen Abenteuer, das "Star Trek: Discovery" war, und wenn ich mich richtig informiert habe, dann ist die Serie schon seit zwei Jahren abgedreht. Wie ist das, nach so langer Zeit wieder für Interviews zu dieser Serie zurückzukehren?

Doug Jones : Das stimmt, wir haben Staffel 5 im November 2022 abgedreht. Und warum es dann so lange gebraucht hat, die Staffel zu veröffentlichen, war, weil wir in der Zwischenzeit herausgefunden haben, dass es unsere letzte Staffel sein würde.

Wir hatten dann die Chance, noch einmal für ein paar Drehtage zurückzukehren, um einen Epilog zu drehen, der an die letzte Episode anschließen würde, um der Serie einen runden Abschluss zu geben. Das war im April 2023.

Selbst seitdem ist es schon wieder mehr als ein Jahr her und … es ist ein bisschen so, dass ich immer noch einmal in meinem Kopf durchgehen muss: "Okay, worum ging's noch gleich in der Serie, wen spiele ich darin?" Weil wir natürlich uns [als Schauspieler] dann immer wieder ins nächste Projekt stürzen.

Aber lass mich dir sagen: "Star Trek: Discovery" schwebt so schwer über mir, im besten Sinne, weil ich eben sieben Jahre lang an fünf Staffeln gearbeitet habe. Und der Grund, warum wir für fünf Staffeln ganze sieben Jahre gebraucht haben, ist, weil die Serie mit jeder Staffel acht bis neun Monate Arbeitszeit gebraucht hat.

In einem Jahr hat es elf Monate gebraucht, weil COVID das noch einmal beeinflusst hat. Ich habe somit viel Zeit in meinem Leben in Toronto, fernab meines Zuhauses, in einer Saru-Maske verbracht, um ihn für euch Fans zum Leben zu erwecken.

Ich habe somit viel mit ihm erlebt und verlebt, wenn man so will. Er ist ein Teil von mir geworden - wie eigentlich jeder Charakter, den ich gespielt habe, aber Saru wird auf jeden Fall für immer bei mir bleiben.

Netzwelt : Und dieses Ende von Saru wird eine Leere für uns Fans hinterlassen. Und um diese Leere zu füllen, wenn du einen Film oder eine Serie aus dem "Star Trek"-Universum pitchen dürftest, wie sähe dieser Pitch aus?

"Star Trek: Discovery"-Star Doug Jones hat exklusiv mit uns im Interview über eine mögliche Rückkehr in der kommenden Serie "Starfleet Academy" gesprochen.

Doug Jones : Mein Pitch … ähm, ja! Ich glaube, mein Charakter Saru hat so ein Happy End bekommen hat, [was gut ist, wie es ist]. Er war ein einsamer Wissenschaftsoffizier, hat sich beruflich hochgearbeitet, bis er Captain und schließlich Botschafter wurde, ganz am Ende der Serie, … und auch Angst, er lebte in Angst, und hat sich ihr gestellt, wodurch er jetzt mutig und selbstbewusst sein kann, sodass er sich sogar ein Liebesleben aufbauen konnte.

Und er heiratet schließlich eine wunderbare, diplomatische Präsidentin eines Planeten, T‘Rina, gespielt von Tara Rosling. Die Dinge sind also gut, er hat ein wunderbares "Und sie lebten glücklich bis ans Ende ihrer Tage"-Ende erhalten. Was ich also für ihn pitchen würde? Keine Ahnung.

Die neue " Star Trek: Starfleet Academy "-Serie, die sich in Produktion befindet, ist wohl der Ort für einen Gastauftritt - vielleicht -, weil er Teil der Föderation und viel am Hauptquartier stationiert ist. Und könnte er hier und da mal einen Gastauftritt haben? Ja! Und er spricht 94 Sprachen, er könnte im Zuge des Kadetten-Trainings also ein Sprachseminar geben, wer weiß. Wer weiß!

Ein paar Menschen haben einen "Discovery"-Film in den Ring geworfen. Das könnte eventuell auch kommen, wer weiß. Es gibt so viele Serien, die Filmpotenzial haben, ich bin mir also nicht sicher. Ich wurde noch nicht angerufen.

Wenn der Anruf kommt, dann sag ich bestimmt nicht nein!

Die neue Serie "Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" dreht sich um die Sternenflottenakademie. Im Zentrum der Handlung stehen junge Kadetten und Kadettinnen. Die Serie setzt an die Ereignisse von "Star Trek: Discovery" an und es ist bereits bestätigt, dass "Discovery"-Star Mary Wiseman als Sylvia Tilly zurückkehren wird.

Netzwelt : Das ist schön zu hören. Und du hast ja auch mit Jonathan Frakes [Will Riker in " Star Trek: Picard " und " Raumschiff Enterprise - Das nächste Jahrhundert "] gearbeitet, der vielfach auch als Regisseur zu "Star Trek" zurückgekehrt ist. Wäre Regie ein Schritt in deiner Karriere, den du wagen würdest?

"Star Trek: Discovery"-Star Doug Jones gehört zu den beliebtesten Schauspielern der Serie. Wir haben ihn gefragt, ob er als Regisseur zum Franchise zurückkehren würde.

Doug Jones : Nein, ich hatte nie das Verlangen, Regie zu führen oder als Produzent zu fungieren. Für mich ist es stressig genug, Schauspieler zu sein und eine einzige Rolle zu spielen. Als Regisseur muss man mit so vielen Bällen gleichzeitig jonglieren, … und Jonathan Frakes macht dies mit so viel Taktgefühl und Unbeschwertheit, oder zumindest zeigt er es nicht, sollte er gestresst sein.

Und weil er ein Schauspieler einer ehemaligen "Star Trek"-Serie ist, versteht er es besonders, uns zu inszenieren und zu helfen. Er macht ja ganz viel Fernsehen und Film als Regisseur, aber bei einer "Star Trek"-Episode macht er das aus einem Verständnis aus seinen eigenen Schauspieltagen heraus und wenn er beispielsweise hört, dass wir mit einem Paragraphen Probleme haben, in dem sehr viele technische Begriffe sind, ohne große emotionale Tiefe, ...

... dann weiß er genau, wie er uns da führen und inspirieren und das Bestmögliche aus uns herauskitzeln kann. Er ist ein strahlendes Beispiel dessen, was ich nie schaffen kann und auch gar nicht anstrebe.

Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced several strong and intelligent female characters, most of whom didn't stick around as long as they should have. Led by Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), TNG's ensemble cast featured Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) and Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) as main characters, although they did not always receive the strongest storylines. Throughout its seven seasons, TNG introduced many interesting female characters who only appeared for one or two episodes, despite having the potential for more stories.

Although Star Trek's depiction of women improved dramatically in Star Trek: The Next Generation when compared with Star Trek: The Original Series , TNG was still a product of its time . Many fascinating female characters were introduced throughout the series, but they rarely stuck around long enough to become fully developed characters. Thankfully, modern Trek shows like Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek: Prodigy have brought back some of these characters who were underutilized in their initial appearances.

Throughout its nearly 60-year history, the Star Trek franchise has introduced an incredible cast of women and iconic female characters.

10 Commander Elizabeth Shelby (Elizabeth Dennehy)

Star trek: the next generation season 3, episode 26 & season 4, episode 1 - "the best of both worlds".

In the iconic Star Trek: The Next Generation two-parter , "The Best of Both Worlds," Commander Elizabeth Shelby was sent to the USS Enterprise-D to investigate potential Borg attacks. When Shelby learned that Commander William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) had been offered his own command, she set her sights on becoming the next First Officer of the Enterprise-D .

After Captain Picard was kidnapped and assimilated by the Borg, Shelby proved to be an incredibly skilled officer, as she led an away team to the Borg cube. Picard's capture left Riker in charge of the Enterprise, and Shelby stepped up as his temporary First Officer. In the battle against the Borg, Riker and Shelby made a good team, ultimately rescuing Picard and destroying the Borg cube.

By the time of Star Trek: Picard season 3, Shelby had achieved the rank of Fleet Admiral and she led the celebrations at Frontier Day. When the Borg triggered assimilation in all of Starfleet's youngest officers, Shelby was shot and presumably killed by her assimilated crew members.

9 K’Ehleyr (Suzie Plakson)

Suzie Plakson's K’Ehleyr made her debut in Star Trek: The Next Generation's "The Emissary," where she traveled to the Enterprise to intercept an old Klingon sleeper ship. From her very first scene, Plakson embued K'Ehleyr with so much personality that she was instantly memorable. Upon arriving on the Enterprise, K'Ehleyr reconnected with her former flame, Lt. Worf (Michael Dorn), but she refused to marry him when he asked.

After completing her mission in "The Emissary," K'Ehleyr did not make another appearance until TNG season 4's "Reunion." When came aboard the Enterprise this time, she had her young son, Alexander (Jon Steuer) , in tow, and surprised Worf by revealing that he was the father. Tragically, the Klingon Duras (Patrick Massett) killed K'Ehleyr when he discovered that she had found evidence linking him to Worf's discommendation.

8 Dr. Leah Brahms (Susan Gibney)

Dr. Leah Brahms may be most remembered as the subject of Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge's (LeVar Burton) awkward holodeck romance , but she was a compelling character on her own. A brilliant scientist who helped design the Enterprise's engines, Brahms could easily have played a larger role in Star Trek: The Next Generation . Brahms was an expert in warp field theory, and the Enterprise crew could have contacted her more often.

Leah Brahms visited the USS Enterprise-D in Star Trek: The Next Generation 's "Galaxy's Child," which led to an awkward conversation with Geordi when she discovered his holodeck program. Brahms felt understandably violated by La Forge's program, and his reaction didn't exactly do him any favors. Still, the two put aside their differences and worked together in the end, eventually becoming good friends.

7 Ensign Sito Jaxa (Shannon Fill)

Star trek: the next generation season 5, episode 19 ("the first duty") & season 7, episode 15 ("lower decks").

Sito Jaxa made her first appearance as a cadet at Starfleet Academy, alongside Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton). As a member of the Nova Squadron, Sito was involved in a flight exercise accident that caused the death of one of her fellow cadets. After Sito and her squadron attempted to cover up the real reason for the accident, she remained at Starfleet Academy and continued to pursue a career on a starship.

By the time of TNG's "Lower Decks," Sito had landed a position on the Enterprise-D, working in the security department with Lt. Worf. Seven months after being assigned to the Enterprise, Picard asked Sito to participate in an undercover mission to help a Cardassian defector return to Cardassian space. Tragically, Sito was killed during this mission and her death had a profound effect on her fellow lower deckers.

Sito Jaxa briefly returned in a flashback in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4, episode 10, "Old Friends, New Planets." While at the Academy, Sito had been a friend and mentor to Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome).

6 Ensign Robin Lefler (Ashley Judd)

Only appearing in two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Ashley Judd's Ensign Robin Lefler had the potential to be a compelling guest character. In her first appearance, she was seen working alongside Geordi La Forge in engineering and she later formed a connection with Wesley Crusher. When Wesley visited the Enterprise while on vacation from Starfleet Academy, he and Robin helped save the crew from a dangerously addictive game.

Aside from Wesley Crusher, TNG rarely explored Starfleet from the perspective of young people (with "Lower Decks" as a notable exception). With Wesley's departure from the show, Robin Lefler could have taken over his role, but she unfortunately never appeared again after "The Game." Modern Trek shows like Star Trek: Lower Decks and the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy have begun exploring the lives of Starfleet cadets and ensigns in more depth.

5 Nurse Alyssa Ogawa (Patti Yasutake)

Beginning in Star Trek: The Next Generation season 4 , Nurse Alyssa Ogawa joined the medical team of Dr. Beverly Crusher. As one of the head nurses on the Enterprise-D, Ogawa assisted with important surgeries and helped care for the crew during medical emergencies. She became close personal friends with Dr. Crusher and the two regularly discussed their romantic relationships and lives outside of their careers.

In TNG season 6, episode 22, "Suspicions," Ogawa even risked her own career to help Dr. Crusher investigate some suspicious deaths. Ogawa appeared in sixteen episodes of TNG, and her presence helped make the Enterprise feel more lived in. She proved herself to be a skilled nurse, and Dr. Crusher even recommended her for promotion in TNG season 7, episode 15, "Lower Decks."

In the wake of Patti Yasutake's tragic death, here are 5 reasons Nurse Alyssa Ogawa became one of Star Trek: TNG's best recurring characters.

4 Amanda Rogers (Olivia d'Abo)

Amanda Rogers first visited the Enterprise as part of a Starfleet Academy internship, reporting to Dr. Beverly Crusher as her mentor. Soon after her arrival, however, Amanda displayed strange powers reminiscent of John de Lancie's Q. Q arrived to investigate, informing Amanda that she was from the Q Continuum. Her birth parents had left the Contiuum and lived as humans, but were killed when Amanda was a baby.

Although Amanda initially wanted to stay on the Enterprise and refrain from using her powers, she later accepted her true nature and left with Q. Despite Q's later Star Trek appearances , Amanda never appeared again and her story remained unfinished on screen. In her single appearance, Amanda seemed like a genuinely good person and it would have been fascinating to see more of her story, considering she's the only Q who was raised as a human.

3 Vash (Jennifer Hetrick)

Captain Picard was entirely devoted to his Starfleet career, so he rarely found time for romance, but he made an exception for Vash. An archeologist with shady morals, Vash met Jean-Luc Picard while he was vacationing on Risa, and she quickly pulled him into one of her schemes. Intelligent and bold, Vash had visited Risa in search of a legendary artifact that would make her a huge profit.

After their dalliance on Risa, Vash and Picard parted on amicable terms, realizing their lifestyles were incompatible. Vash later reunited with Jean-Luc when the Enterprise hosted the Federation Archaeology Council symposium. While Vash was visiting the Enterprise, Q appeared and tried to help Jean-Luc in his love life by staging an elaborate Robin Hood-inspired fantasy.

After TNG's "Qpid," Vash left to travel with Q and the pair paid a visit to space station Deep Space Nine in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine season 1, episode 7, "Q-Less."

2 Keiko O'Brien (Rosalind Chao)

Keiko O'Brien first appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation season 4, episode 11, "Data's Day," when she married Chief Miles O'Brien (Colm Meaney) . Keiko worked as a botanist on the Enterprise-D and was introduced to Miles by their mutual friend, Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner). In TNG season 5, episode 5, "Disaster," Keiko gave birth to her and Miles's first child, Molly (Angela and Angelica Tedeski), with Worf acting as a reluctant midwife.

The following year, in TNG season 6, episode 7, "Rascals," Keiko was one of the Enterprise officers transformed into a child, which led to some awkward moments with Miles and Molly. Although Keiko did not get much development as a character on TNG , she helped fill out the Enterprise crew and reminded viewers that the ship had families aboard. When Chief O'Brien transferred to Deep Space Nine, Keiko and Molly, of course, went with him.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's serialized storytelling improved many former TNG characters, including someone close to Chief O'Brien's heart.

1 Ensign Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes)

Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced Ensign Ro Laren in season 5, and she went on to appear in eight total episodes of the series. Although she received more development as a character than many of the women on this list, TNG still did not use her as much as they could have. Still, Ro had a fascinating backstory. After surviving the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, Ro joined Starfleet but had a rather tumultuous relationship with the organization.

After a disastrous away mission in which Ro disobeyed direct orders, she was court-martialed and imprisoned. She was later reinstated as a Starfleet Ensign and joined the crew of the Enterprise-D. Although many Enterprise crew members were initially weary of Ro, she later came to feel like a part of the crew. Picard took Ro under his wing, which left him all the more disappointed when she left Starfleet to join the rebel group known as the Maquis.

Ro Laren was originally meant to be the First Officer on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but Michelle Forbes turned down the offer. The role later became Major Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor).

Picard did not get the chance to discuss Ro's betrayal until many years later in Star Trek: Picard season 3 , by which time she had rejoined Starfleet yet again. Ro was apparently killed while investigating the Changeling infiltration of Starfleet, although she did manage to pass the information she had gathered to Picard. Throughout her nine Star Trek appearances, Ro became one of Star Trek: The Next Generation's most interesting secondary characters.
