Tenerife is the ideal destination for those looking to improve their fitness and escape the colder weather during the off-season. The island is of course famous for the climb to Mount Teide, where you’ll find the majority of pro riders in June, as they fine-tune their fitness for the Tour de France.

But there’s a lot more to our cycling camp than just Teide. You’ll take the short ferry ride over to the neighbouring island of La Gomera for an absolutely incredible day of riding. Competing with La Gomera and Teide for the ride of the week is the breathtakingly beautiful cliff road to the village of Masca, an amazing ride that will no doubt claim it’s spot in your all-time Top 10 rides.

Join us for a week of phenomenal riding and return home with fantastic fitness and a killer cycling tan that will make you the envy of your local grupetto!

Non-Rider options

This trip is well suited to non-riding partners and families. The hotel has an abundance of activities and amenities, including 4 swimming pools, tennis courts, several restaurants and a gym.

Itinerary Detail

Welcome to Tenerife!

Your Cycling Camp starts at Tenerife South Airport where our staff will meet you before the short transfer to the Landmar Hotel in Puerto de Santiago.

After lunch, orientation meeting and bike build-up, you’ll head out for your first ride in Tenerife, a gentle introduction to riding on the island with the 9km (6 miles) climb to Guia de Isora.

Mount Teide from Los Gigantes

The first of your long rides and no better way to kick things off than the climb to Mount Teide.

On todays climb to Teide you’ll take the western approach from Los Gigantes. From the hotel you have a 4.5km (3 miles) “warm-up” before arriving in Los Gigantes and the start of the climb to Teide. The summit lies 50km (31 miles) ahead at just over 2,300m (7,500ft). Continue over the top to Las Canadas, through the dramatic lava fields that lie in the shadow of the 3,700m (12,000ft) volcano. After a coffee-stop in Las Canadas it’s time to head back to the hotel and enjoy one of the longest descents ever!

The spectacular cliff road to Masca

Today you’ll head for the north shore of the island. The ride starts the same as the warm-up ride, with the climb to Guia de Isora but then continues climbing to the Alto de Arguayo and eventually to the Puerto de Erjos.

Enjoy the stunning views from the switchbacks on the descent from El Tanque which takes us to the North Shore of the island. You’ll ride along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean to Buenavista del Norte where the spectacular cliff road takes us through Masca to Santiago del Teide. This is one of the most impressive and dramatic roads you’ll ever ride, with incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean hundreds of metres below. Save something in the tank for the climb out of Masca, it’s unbelievably beautiful – but also unbelievably steep!

Anaga Natural Park

A stunning ride today through the Anaga Natural Park in the north-east of the island.

To get to this remote part of the island you’ll have a short transfer to San Andres, where the ride starts with the 1st of 4 spectacular climbs. Enjoy the mix of sea and mountain scenery as you ride through vast forests, high cliffs overlooking the Atlantic, craggy peaks and remote mountain villages.

Local riders claim this is the most beautiful ride on Tenerife – we’ll let you be the judge.

After the long rides of the past 3 days, you’ll have a shorter ride today and rest up for the final 2 big days of riding.

It may be a short ride but it has it’s challenges! Close to the hotel is the climb through El Chirche, one of the steepest segments in Tenerife and we just couldn’t resist giving it a shot. The KOM list on the Strava segment is quite impressive: Wout Van Aert has the KOM in 10:40 with Tadej Pogacar, Steven Kruijswijk, Chris Froome, Richie Porte, Romain Bardet and Jai Hindley all appearing in the Top 25. It’s also worth mentioning that our ride leader, Llibert Sendros, is in 14th position just 35 seconds behind Tadej Pogacar! Check out the segment here: https://www.strava.com/segments/14764537

The island of La Gomera

Previous guests have listed this ride as one of their top rides ever. It really is a spectacularly beautiful ride: great climbs, stunning views, charming villages, perfect road surface and no traffic!

In the morning, a 50 minute ferry crossing will take you to the neighbouring small island of La Gomera. The ride starts from the port of San Sebastian de La Gomera and it won’t be long before you’re climbing the first of the 4 climbs on today’s ride. The island is essentially a mountain in the middle of the ocean with the highest peaks reaching 1,400m (4,600ft). A magnificent Natural Park covers all of the interior and you’ll be riding through this National Park during the entire ride. These are some of the most beautiful roads in the Canary Islands with some of the most impressive vistas. Enjoy this epic and exceptional ride!

The North Coast

Today you’ll head back towards the cliff roads in Masca – but from the opposite side.

From Los Gigantes you’ll climb all the way to Santiago del Teide then enjoy the stunning descent through Masca and all the way down to the North shore of the island in Buenavista del Norte. A short, (very) steep surprise awaits in the form of the climb to Tierra del Trigo before you head back up the Puerto de Erjos, this time from La Vega. The final descent back to the hotel through Chio and Playa San Juan closes off a week of epic riding!

In the evening, join us at the hotel bar where beers and cocktails are in order to toast a fantastic week of riding!

Our Submarine Excursion

Step on board one of the most sophisticated tourist submarines in the world. Dive to 30 metres beneath the Atlantic Ocean and discover the fascinating underwater world.

This spacious submarine seats 44 passengers, is fully air conditioned and maintained at normal atmospheric conditions for your comfort and safety. It has 22 large view ports so everyone can view the vast array of marine life and marvel at the mysterious shipwrecks lying on the seabed.

Port Santa Cruz de Tenerife cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is Canary Islands' largest cruise port and principal homeport (for roundtrip itineraries). Tenerife Island is largest in the Canaries, located approx 300 km (190 mi) from North Africa’s coast. The island has total area approx 2034 km2 (785 mi2) and population around 890,000, which is ~43% of Canaries' total population.

As cruise port, Tenerife is also ranked Spain's second busiest - after Barcelona , handling nearly 1 million cruise ship passengers annually. Tenerife Island is visited by around 5 million tourists annually, making it archipelago's most visited. The island is served by two airports - Tenerife South (aka Reina Sofia) and Tenerife North (aka Los Rodeos).

One of cruise port's busiest days was September 26, 1993, when over 45,000 tourists came to Michael Jackson‘s concert (part of the "Dangerous World Tour"). The port has capacity to accommodate the world’s largest passenger ships of Royal Caribbean 's Oasis-class (LOA length 362 m, max capacity 6780 passengers plus 2400 crew).

In 2016 was inaugurated the new cruise terminal. There are plans for developing LNG bunkering capabilities (liquefied natural gas fueling for LNG-powered cruise liners) via truck and barge. In 2016-2017 season were handled nearly 618,000 passengers. For winter season 2017-2018, here were homeported AIDAblu and AIDAprima ( AIDA Cruises ), TUI Discovery and Thomson Dream ( Marella Cruises ) and Pullmantur Horizon . For season 2018-2019, in Tenerife were homeported Marella Dream, AIDAnova , Pullmantur Zenith .

In early-December 2018, Carnival Corporation announced a concession agreement with the port authority company to become the operator of Tenerife cruise terminal - currently Canary Islands' newest and largest. Following the terminal operation deal, the first Carnival Corporation-owned vessel docking here was AIDAnova (December 12). Of all the nine Carnival Corp brands, 7 were scheduled to visit Tenerife - AIDA , Cunard , Costa , Holland America , P&O UK , Princess and Seabourn . Port Tenerife is the 8th Carnival-operated cruise terminal - joining the seaports Barcelona (Spain), Savona (Italy), Amber Cove (Dominicana), Puerta Maya ( Cozumel, Mexico ), Grand Turk Island , Mahogany Bay ( Isla Roatan, Honduras ) and Long Beach (California USA).

The seaport is managed by Autoridad Portuaria de Santa Cruz de Tenerife (port authority company). The cruise port is located just 10 km (6 mi) from Tenerife North Airport and approx 60 km (37 mi) from Tenerife South Airport. The city's bus service is excellent, and it is also easy to pick a taxi almost everywhere.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the island's main city and also the capital (shared with Las Palmas ) of Canary Islands - an autonomous territory of Spain. In the period 1833-1927, Santa Cruz de Tenerife was Canaries' sole capital. La Laguna University (in San Cristobal) is the archipelago's oldest (founded in 1792).

Teide National Park (World Heritage Site) is in the center of Tenerife Island and has Spain's highest elevation point (Mt Teide - 3718 m / 12198 ft), which is also the highest of all Atlantic Ocean islands. In 2015, Macizo de Anaga mountain (northeastern Tenerife Island) was designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, having Europe's largest number of endemic species.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife cruise terminal

Port Tenerife (Puerto de Santa Cruz de Tenerife) is one of world's deepest natural harbour ports. It is located on island's northeastern coast, with Anaga Mountains surrounding the seaport. Free shuttle bus service for cruise ship tourists is provided by the port authority. It links the cruise terminal with downtown (Plaza de Espana). Pierside taxis are also available. Downtown is less than 1 km away.

The 2016-inaugurated cruise terminal has berth length 395 m (1296 ft) and depth / max draught 10 m (33 ft). Terminal's building is Canaries' largest (sized 8473 m2 / 91200 ft2) and has huge check-in hall (with 50 desks), large waiting hall, large parking (for buses) and taxi ranks . The cruise terminal is served by two gangways (mobile passenger bridges).

• Museum of Open Air Sculptures: discover great Henry Moore, Miró, Alfaro and Chirino exhibitions. Start you art tour in Las Ramblas, pass trough the Las Asuncionistas School and finish at the Park García Sanabria.
• Tenerife Auditorium: Santiago Calatrava designed that trendy Santa Cruz building. You can spend you time listening to live musical performances right on the sea promenade.
• Santa Cruz Public Library: La Granja Park houses the great documents collection of all times and all kinds. You can find local authors works, visit an exhibition or go to a theater.
• Fine Arts Circle: a center for avant-garde artworks. You can visit painting and photography exhibitions.
• Plaza de la Candelaria: located right across the famous Plaza de España. On the small area of the both squares you will find Olympo Building, Casino Cruz, Carta Palace, Chamber of Commerce and more Santa Cruz de Tenerife sights.
• San Cristóbal Castle: fot those who love history – a section of the castle, who defended Santa Cruz. You can reach the castle from the underground exhibition from Plaza de España.
• Museum of Man and Nature: discover the Guanches, the Canary Islands aboriginal inhabitants, and the Canary’s history through artefacts exhibitions. The Museum of Man and Nature is situated at the Plaza de Europa.
• San Cristobal de la Laguna: the original capital city of Tenerife. Probably the island’s most charming town. You can see the oldest university, cathedral and church of Tenerife. Also you can enjoy traditional cuisine at the local restaurants or rest at the amazing beaches on the coastline.

Biden asks Americans to recommit to democracy in Normandy cliff speech

POINTE DU HOC, France (Reuters) -Atop the cliff that U.S. Army Rangers scaled 80 years ago on D-Day, President Joe Biden on Friday compared the threats posed by Nazi Germany to those facing the world today by dictators and authoritarianism, and urged Americans to resist isolationism.

Biden's speech in Normandy, his second in as many days, sought to strengthen support for Ukraine, which is locked in a war with Russia and its President Vladimir Putin, and bolster democratic ideals at home. Biden said the Army Rangers who fought that day would want Americans to defend freedom.

"Does anyone doubt that they would want America to stand up against Putin’s aggression here in Europe today?" he asked.

Biden never mentioned his Republican rival in the Nov. 5 presidential election, Donald Trump, but his speech criticized the former president's isolationist inclinations.

"The most natural instinct is to walk away, to be selfish, to force our will upon others, to seize power and never give up," Biden said, in an apparent dig at Trump. "American democracy asks the hardest of things: to believe that we're part of something bigger than ourselves."

Biden urged Americans to remember the Rangers whose dramatic heroism on D-Day helped make the invasion a success.

"As we gather here today, it’s not just to honor those who showed such remarkable bravery on that day, June 6, 1944," Biden said. "It’s to listen to the echo of their voices. To hear them... They’re not asking us to scale these cliffs, but they’re asking us to stay true to what America stands for."

On June 6, 1944, the elite Ranger troops scaled the 100-foot (30-meter) cliffs overlooking Omaha Beach under withering gunfire and seized German artillery pieces that could have fired on American troops coming ashore at Omaha and nearby Utah Beach.

By setting his speech at Pointe du Hoc, Biden echoed Republican predecessor Ronald Reagan, who marked D-Day's anniversary there 40 years before. Reagan said democracy was "worth dying for" and emphasized an American desire for peace in what turned out to be the waning years of the Cold War.

Biden's goal was to draw a "through line" from World War Two, connecting the Cold War, the establishment of the NATO military alliance and Russia's current war with Ukraine, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said.

"We’re the fortunate heirs of a legacy of these heroes, those who scaled the cliffs at Pointe du Hoc. But we must also be the keepers of their mission," Biden said.

CONTRAST WITH TRUMP

The U.S. president is in the middle of a five-day trip to France, a rare excursion abroad during an election year in which he faces a tight race against Trump, a Republican who has threatened to use a second four-year term to punish political rivals, deport immigrants and upend global alliances.

Trump has criticized the cost of supporting Ukraine after Russia's invasion, proposed higher tariffs as part of an "America First" policy and questioned America's decades-long commitment to NATO, saying European members are not paying their fair share.

On Thursday, Biden made an impassioned call for the defense of freedom and urged Western powers to stand by Ukraine in its fight with Russia.

The D-Day anniversary on June 6 and surrounding events are part of Biden's presidential duties, not campaign events. But they gave him a chance to contrast himself with Trump.

Biden, at 81 the oldest to serve in the office, has sought to rebut concerns about his age by focusing on the potential impact Trump, 77, could have during a second term.

The Democratic incumbent has characterized Trump, whose supporters raided the U.S. Capitol after the Republican declined to accept his 2020 election loss, as a threat to U.S. democracy.

Meanwhile, hard-right parties are gaining ground in Europe, and Russia's President Putin said on Wednesday he could deploy conventional missiles within striking distance of the United States and its allies if they allowed Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia with long-range Western weapons.

"This will hit the core messages that Biden is wanting to highlight during his re-election campaign but also has real resonance still in Europe as well," said Max Bergmann, director of the Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program at the Center for Strategic & International Studies.

Biden met with World War Two veterans in Normandy on Thursday and with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Friday.
