4 Tom Cruise Outfits That Have Stood the Test of Time

Tom Cruise was one of the biggest stars of the 80s. In addition to his hit movies and million dollar smile, he was always on point when it came to fashion. Below, we’ve come up with a list of Tom Cruise outfits from the 1980s that we still love today.

#1 Faux Fur-Trimmed Leather Jacket and Aviators in Top Gun

The outfits in the 1986 hit Top Gun inspired a generation of men. Although Maverick’s army green utilitarian jumpsuit has definitely made a comeback (even in women’s fashion), it’s his faux-fur trimmed leather jacket and aviators look that we are still obsessed with today.

Aviator sunglasses have definitely stood the test of time, not to mention his white t-shirt and blue bootcut jeans combination.

Top it off with a black, bomber-style leather jacket (patches optional) complete with faux fur trim and you’ve got the ultimate Tom Cruise look. This leather jacket and aviator duo is not only cool, it’s practical. The jacket’s lined interior makes it perfect for fall or winter.

#2 Grey Blazer and Wayfarer Sunglasses in Risky Business

Everyone knows Risky Business (particularly the one scene where Tom Cruise’s character is dancing around in his underwear). For those that can remember beyond that iconic scene, you’ll realize that Joel Goodsen actually had some great ensembles other than the white button up and briefs.

Our favourite look from the 1983 film has to be the grey wool blazer he sports at the beginning. Paired with a sleek black t-shirt, blue jeans, and of course, his character’s signature black wayfarer sunglasses – there is really nothing as casually cool as this outfit. And lucky for you, it’s extremely easy to replicate.

Wayfarer sunglasses are one of the trendiest styles for men in 2019, not to mention grey blazers and jackets for men.

#3 All Denim Look in The Outsiders

The Outsiders was one of Tom Cruise’s first films, but it was known for more than the ensemble cast. This hit movie, based on the book of the same name, cast Tom Cruise in the role of Steve Randle.

For most of the film, Steve wears an all-denim outfit that is essentially an edgy take on the Canadian tuxedo.

Blue bootcut jeans cuffed at the bottom, a denim vest, and a grey sleeveless top are all you really need to complete the look. Cuffed jeans are so in right now, especially when paired with a black leather shoe or boot, as seen in the movie.

In addition, denim on denim is another trend that’s made its way back into the mainstream in 2019, in both men and women’s fashion.

If you’re hesitant to go sleeveless, consider a less revealing iteration of the look by pairing your jeans with a long-sleeved denim jacket, or a long-sleeved grey shirt worn beneath the denim vest.

#4 Short Sleeved Hawaiian Shirts in Cocktails

Cocktails featured one of the most beloved 80s trends: Hawaiian shirts. But even back in 1988 when the movie was released, Tom Cruise’s style was ahead of the game.

Rather than the palm tree prints of the era, Cruise rocked multiple short-sleeved shirts with traditionally feminine prints such as florals and fresh fruit.

To complete such a classic beachy look, his character rolled up the sleeves so they were cuffed, undid the top couple of buttons, added a pair of black wayfarer sunglasses, and finished it off with white pants and boat shoes.

Not only are short-sleeved button up shirts having a major moment right now, but bold, brightly-coloured prints are too, making Tom Cruise’s Cocktails outfit one 80s look we still love today.

The Modest Man

Tom Cruise’s Height, Spouse and Style

Published on April 15, 2019 by TMM Staff · Men of Modest Height

Possibly the most famous short celebrity in the world, this article answers your questions about Tom Cruise’s height, spouse and style.

Are you interested in classic menswear? Do timeless pieces with a slight edge appeal to you? Look to Tom Cruise for your style inspiration.

While he may not be the first leading man that comes to mind when you think of stylish stars, a quick look at his wardrobe proves he actually has impeccable and classic taste.

Who is Tom Cruise?

Tom Cruise is a world-famous actor. He’s been starring in films since the early 1980s. These days, he is known for his action roles and performing his own stunts. According to IMDB, he is currently working on the Mission Impossible series , as well as a Top Gun sequel .

Tom Cruise rose to fame in the 1980s as a charming heart-throb with charisma to spare in films like Risky Business (1983) and Top Gun (1986). Who could forget his dancing in Risky Business or the legendary opening scene in Top Gun ?

During the 1990s, Cruise’s credits included critically acclaimed films like Jerry Maguire (1996), Eyes Wide Shut (1999), and Magnolia (1999).

He received Academy Award nominations for his roles in Born on the Fourth of July (1990), Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia . Despite losing the Oscars, Cruise picked up Golden Globes for his roles in those three films.

Most recently, he starred in The Mummy (2017). All of Cruise’s memorable, expert performances are part of the reason he is still a Hollywood star.

Who is Tom Cruise’s spouse?

Tom Cruise has been married and divorced three times. Interestingly, he seems to have a type. Tom’s wives have all been tall and gorgeous with fabulous hair.

T om’s Cruise’s first marriage was with actress Mimi Rogers. They were married from 1987-1990. Less than a year after their divorce, Tom Cruise was remarried.

He and Australian actress Nicole Kidman wed on December 24, 1990. They met on the set of Days of Thunder (1990). Together they adopted two children, Isabella and Connor Cruise. Kidman and Cruise were married until 2001. After his divorce from Kidman, Cruise waited five years before he tied the knot again.

His third spouse, actress Katie Holmes, gave birth to their daughter, Suri Cruise, seven months before they married. Holmes filed for divorce in June of 2012, after five years of marriage. Tom Cruise is currently single.

How tall is Tom Cruise?

It’s no Hollywood secret that Tom Cruise is on the shorter side. Current reports have him at 5’7 (five foot, seven inches) or just over 170 cm.

In the 1980s, Cruise was quoted “I have always been pretty much the same weight, 147 lbs and five-foot nine”. In the early 1990s, he was said to be 5’8 and 160 lbs.

In 2019, we have evidence that he is most likely 5’7 (170.18 cm). He is estimated to weigh 150 lbs.

As one of Hollywood’s most famous action stars, Cruise is typically shot to be appear taller and larger on-screen. Rumor has it that he’s requested elevator shoes when playing opposite taller men.

For example, when he starred in Interview with the Vampire (1994) with Brad Pitt, it’s believed Cruise wore lifts. Additionally, his ex-wife Nicole Kidman said she was required to wear flats when shooting scenes with Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut (1999).

This type of perception-altering is common in Hollywood. Many short actors stand on boxes or use camera angles to appear taller. This is probably one of the reasons no one can agree on Tom Cruise’s height.

How to Dress like Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise’s personal style is very consistent. He clearly takes inspiration from some of the roles he’s played–and why not? A costume designer’s job is to make the actors look their very best.

He often wears white button downs, bomber jackets, and aviator sunglasses as he wore in Top Gun, or all black ensembles, as he wears in the Mission Impossible series.

Tom Cruise’s signature style include the following elements:

  • Neutral color palette (blue, grey, black and white)
  • Straight leg pants
  • Fine fabrics (Italian wool, leather)
  • Monochromatic looks
  • Leather jackets
  • Aviator sunglasses
  • Large watches
  • Heeled boots and dress shoes
  • Impeccable tailoring

Let’s take a look at his formalwear.

Tom Cruise’s Red Carpet Style

When it comes to style, Tom Cruise has two settings: formal and smart casual. For his red carpet appearances he favors bespoke three piece suits.

During his press tour for The Mummy, he wore Ermenegildo Zegna almost exclusively. His stylists reported that everything was handmade to the actor’s specifications.

A custom Ermenegildo Zegna can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $22,000. Regardless of the brand, most of Cruise’s suiting has similar traits.

  • Slight metallic sheen in fabrics
  • Classic colors like navy, charcoal, and black
  • Traditional three piece suits (with coordinating vest)
  • Matching ties
  • White dress shirts

It’s very rare to see Cruise stray from this particular formal aesthetic.

Tom Cruise’s Street Style

When Tom Cruise is off duty, he embraces a smart casual style. He typically wears a monochromatic outfit, such as a black t-shirt, black leather jacket, and black pants.

Wearing all one color is a fashion trick to look taller and leaner. He probably learned that one on set. He also embraces v-necks, whether it’s a sweater, or a button down he’s left mischievously undone.

This too is a way to visually elongate the body. Another part of Tom Cruise’s style any short man can embrace is his love of a classic, straight leg pants.

Tom Cruise’s casual style frequently features these elements:

  • V-neck sweaters and button-downs
  • Monochromatic looks in black, grey, or blue
  • Bomber jackets
  • Straight leg pants and jeans

Again, just like with his formalwear, Cruise is very consistent with his casual looks.

Signature Personal Style

Like many Hollywood players, Cruise uses his personal style as part of his brand. As a short man, he also uses fashion to look longer and leaner.

When we think of Tom Cruise, we think of traditional, sophisticated silhouettes in neutral colors, impeccable tailoring, and fine fabrics. Tom Cruise’s fashion sense is admirable. His dedication to classic looks means that he always looks great, whether it’s 1989 or 2019.

Tom Cruise Is Wearing Really, Really Nice Suits Again

Image may contain Human Person Clothing Apparel Audience and Crowd

Consider this the next time you're packing for a trip: It took Tom Cruise 's stylists three days to pack his looks for his recent press tour to promote the film The Mummy .

"He’s busy...it's a busy schedule," says Nicole Ferreira, who works alongside her sister Wendi as part of a styling duo that dresses Chris Pine, Channing Tatum, Shia LaBeouf, and, of course, Cruise (plus female clients like Elizabeth Banks and Octavia Spencer) for everything from the Oscars to big summer movie press tours. "It's making sure that everything is right—we write everything down, everything is bagged, there’s a book for him so that all of the work doesn’t get messed up."

For Cruise, who is currently crisscrossing the globe to promote the action film/ new franchise tentpole , life on the road is packed with red carpet events, talk-show appearances, on-camera interviews, meet-and-greets, and a whole lot of posing for photographers—and each requires a fresh outfit. Which is where the Ferreira sisters step in. Their job is to get the actor dressed for every appointment, from big premieres to trips to the airport (seriously). In other words, no sartorial stone goes unturned.

The Ferreira sisters started working with Tom Cruise about two years ago after being introduced through a Paramount studios contact. (They started styling together in 2005 after respective careers in the fashion industry—and shared an appreciation for the art of shopping when they were younger. "Our mom made a big deal out of school clothes shopping; it was a big trip," Wendi says. "It was an event in our lives.") They approach working with the iconic actor as they do every client, first by researching past looks and then by collecting ideas and images of how they'd dress him or her for future events. And since Cruise has been in the spotlight for a long time, there's a record of just about every menswear choice he's made over the past 30 years. "We grew up watching him, so it was a lot of research...looking at how his style has evolved and pulling images that screamed 'Tom Cruise' to us. Then we did a concise pull of things we want to see him in."

For Cruise, this means two very distinct looks: suited up like the ultimate leading man and more casual outfits:

"I would describe Tom’s style as elegant...with a sexy, masculine edge. It’s very classic. He’s very much all about details, and there’s minute details, but they matter. It sets him apart and makes it outstanding."

The Ferreira sisters get a look at the actor's schedule and pull together a first edit of items for the actor based not only on the type of events he'll be attending but also on bigger-picture ideas like the mood of the project itself and the places he'll be traveling. "He's very in tune with how he's supposed to look; he has a definite idea of what he wants to convey," Nicole says. And because it's Tom Cruise, the actor's name equals access to some of the finest menswear threads on planet Earth.

Image may contain Clothing Apparel Shirt Sleeve Accessories Tie and Accessory

A closer look at the fabric of Cruise's made-to-measure suits.

To wit, for this Mummy press tour, the Ferreiras worked closely with Ermenegildo Zegna on a series of made-to-measure suits for his high-profile red carpet appearances, a fact that underscores one of the more important takeaways non-celebs can learn from a grade-A superstar like Cruise: Even movie stars need to get their suits tailored. If they need it, so do you. "A lot of what he wears is made-to-measure because of how important tailoring is," Nicole says, which means their process starts three months in advance—though Ermenegildo Zegna's Made to Measure program features a 28-day turnaround process, lightning quick by luxury-brand standards. There's nothing swervy about the suits the sisters and Cruise selected; it's just handmade tailoring executed in some of the finest fabrics money can buy in neutral hues that would look good on any man, A-lister or otherwise. Cruise could wear any of these suits—and already has—in 2017 or 2037, and they'd still be considered unimpeachably stylish.

However, Cruise, Wendi, and Nicole all know that when you stick to more traditional styles, a "fraction of an inch" can make a big difference—and it shows. As a younger generation tries to out-fashion each other with increasingly eccentric styles, or moves toward more casual looks, what's impressive about Cruise is that he sticks with looks that are deceptively simple and expertly executed. Wearing the season's latest print or trend is one way to stand out, but Cruise and his team know that sometimes a straightforward, well-cut suit and some confidence can shine amidst all the sartorial noise. And that's a lesson every guy could learn.

How to Dress Like Tom Cruise in ‘Mission Impossible’

IMF agent Ethan Hunt may play it fast and loose on missions, but his clothing is always on point.

tom cruise fashion style

The key to being a good movie spy is fitting in no matter the surroundings, so it makes sense that the key to good movie spy style is looking good no matter the sartorial situation. The ability to look good in a variety of outfits is a big part of what makes movie spies like Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise ‘s character in the Mission Impossible films, fashion icons.

Over 22 years and six films, including the soon-to-be-released Mission Impossible: Fallout , Cruise has rocked suits, tactical gear, tuxedos, and plenty of leather jackets while playing Hunt. As one of the best-dressed characters in one of the most successful franchises in movie history, Hunt’s style should inspire all guys who want to look their best. The fact that Cruise is 56 with three kids means that dads in particular should take notice.

Here are some of our favorite pieces from the recent Mission Impossible films that can up any dad’s style game.

The Hooded Leather Jacket from Ghost Protocol

tom cruise fashion style

Hunt’s hooded silhouette has become a recurring image over the past few Mission Impossible films, and this jacket is a sterling example. The hood, which helped keep the Impossible Mission Force’s leader incognito as he slipped in and out of dangerous situations, will also help keep you warm and dry on late night diaper runs.

The Persol Sunglasses from Ghost Protocol

These classic Persol shades worn by Tom Cruise in Ghost Protocol kept the sun (and sand) out of his eyes when he was sprinting around Dubai. But their classic silhouette works well during any moment. These, after all, come from the brand who gave Steve McQueen his effortless cool.

The Tudor Heritage Chrono Watch from Ghost Protocol

tom cruise fashion style

A great watch is one of the most versatile pieces you can own. Cruise rocks this one with white pants and a dark button down, but it would look just as great with a suit or tuxedo. At nearly five grand, it’s definitely an investment, but if you’re in the market for a quality timepiece you could do a lot worse for a lot more money.

The Tacky Shirt from Rogue Nation

tom cruise fashion style

The costume designer made this shirt Cruise wears from fabric she found in east London, so unfortunately you won’t be able to wear the exact shirt. Nevertheless, the lesson is clear: if worn with confidence (and a great pair of dark pants), nicely patterned floral shirt can do wonders. We dig this one from H&M.

The Grey Suit from Rogue Nation

The suit, worn by Cruise as he clings to that airplane in the beginning of Rogue One, was custom-made with reinforced seams that could withstand such intense wind. This Armani suit is a close copy. Just know that it will likely rip if you spend time hanging from a fuselage.

The Leather Jacket from Rogue Nation

This jacket, which Cruise wears for the majority of Rogue Nation , is all about the texture. Purposely textured to appear as though it has wrinkles, the jacket, made by Barney’s has a well-worn, timeless feel.

40 Years On, You Should Still Be Dressing Like Tom Cruise in ‘Risky Business’

The actor's first role as Joel Goodson is prime sartorial inspo for the TikTok-approved 'old money aesthetic'

Before Tom Cruise became synonymous with piloting fighter jets, jumping across skyscrapers and breaking every bone in his body in the service of cinèma , the 61-year-old megastar made his name in a far less perilous project.

We're talking about his breakthrough role as college-bound teen Joel Goodson in the 1983 box office hit Risky Business, which turns 40 today. Seemingly guileless and a bit of a push-over, a week with an empty family home at his disposal sees Joel undergo some typical teenage experiences, like losing his virginity and taking midterms, as well as some very untypical teenage experiences. With barely a few days of independence behind him, it doesn't take long for the house to transform into a make-shift brothel that happens to piss off a gun-wielding pimp. It is a surprisingly smart film, a funny film, and – in our opinion, at least – the best-dressed film of Cruise's seasoned career.

No, we're not talking about the iconic dancing scene, where Joel is captured sliding about to Bob Seger’s Old Time Rock And Roll in a red-striped shirt, tighty whities and pulled-up socks – now a popular Halloween costume for those lacking in time and resources. As everyday style inspiration that won't land you in the back of a police car goes, we don't recommend it. And while the film's role in reviving Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses is well-documented (the Los Angeles Times reported that sales almost doubled upon release) that's not the be-all and end-all of its sartorial legacy, either.

You see, Joel may have been walked all over by Lana (Rebecca De Mornay) but the teenager had full authority on his signature preppy look, which can now be found under ‘old-money aesthetic’ hashtags on your TikTok feed.

In the scenes before Joel’s bare-legged musical performance, the teen is seen in an all-American varsity jacket layered over a shirt, while blue denim jeans ( Levi's , most likely) are paired with this year’s ‘it’ footwear: boat shoes . Later on in the film, jeans are cropped to tight, hot pant-esque jorts – styles on the snug side are being embraced on the feed – and the ever-popular Nike Cortez sneakers make several appearances. He's partial to a bit of formalwear, too, with a classic Donegal tweed blazer appearing throughout the film. Joel first dons it with a shirt and tie and later styles it with a black t-shirt and the famed Ray-Bans.

It's a selection of preppy looks that feels very of its time, particularly in the more affluent enclaves of the American suburbs. The trend’s holy text, “The Official Preppy Handbook”, was published in 1980, and paired well with the conservative ideals of Reagan’s near decade-long reign. It was attire for a day on the yacht, or a day spent looking like you might own a yacht. Even for those who hardly cared for the era's cut-throat capitalist ideals – Joel asks his friends before his entrepreneurial downfall, “Doesn’t anyone want to accomplish anything, or do we just want to make money?” – the allure of high-net-worth dressing was too enticing to resist.

Even today, the aforementioned hashtag look is most popular with Gen Zs, despite headlines that suggest they're more liberal – and less flush with cash – than previous generations. And fashion has followed suit with a wardrobe for them; streetwear brands like Aimé Leon Dore and Noah are purveyors of it, while the old bastions – Ralph Lauren, J.Crew (revived thanks to Brendon Babenzien ) and Gant – are still doing what they do best. It can also be found on the spring/summer ’23 catwalks of Givenchy, Kenzo and Louis Vuitton. Even four decades later, Joel Goodson wouldn’t look out of place.

Last night, Tom Cruise continued his “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” premiere tour at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London.

Cruise wore a three-piece black suit. The ensemble comprised a finely tailored blazer that highlighted his sharp silhouette, a sleek vest and lined pants. Enhancing the ensemble’s allure, Cruise opted for a crisp white button-down shirt, which provided a striking contrast and exuded sophistication.

The actor brought the sartorial style down to his feet in lace-up dress shoes complete with an oxford design and short block heels, that elevated her look by at least 2 inches.

Lace-up dress shoes for men have long been a staple in formal and business attire. These shoes feature a lace-up closure system, typically with eyelets or broguing detail, adding a touch of sophistication to any outfit. They are available in various styles, including oxfords, derbies and brogues, each with its unique characteristics.

Whether it’s a pair of polished leather oxfords, sophisticated loafers or fashionable sneakers, he consistently selects footwear that complements his overall look and adds a touch of refinement to his ensemble.

In the upcoming film “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt, the skilled and daring IMF agent. The movie will hit theaters on July 12.

Street Style: Tom Cruise

Tom cruise is one of the most attractive hollywood actors of all time, but that doesn’t need to be said. he has been one of the biggest starts since the 1980s and has charmed the world with his glamorous smile..

Cruise has been infamous for some of his leading roles in several movies. Some of them being “Jack Reacher,” “Edge Of Tomorrow,” “Top Gun,” “Mission Impossible,” and many more. In the films, he is beaming with charisma. Perhaps that is why everyone loves watching his movies.

The actor’s aura has overwhelmed in his acting, but so has his fashion sense. He has made his presence felt with what he wears in movies and also when he hits the streets.

Let’s take a look at what Cruise likes to wear when he’s out and about.

Cruising in a greenish-grey

Cruise has gone for a simple look, because sometimes, less is more. The dashing actor has gone for a unique colour that is a mix of green and grey for his trucker jacket. To keep things lowkey, he is wearing a plain white t-shirt as you do. This is because a plain white t-shirt goes with almost anything. Cruise has then gone for a pair of straight blue colour jeans and a pair of leather scruffed up boots. He hasn’t selected many accessories because let’s be honest, that hair looks short and clean. Cruise is rocking a pair of RayBan aviators. He’s ready to do an action scene for an impossible mission.

Who needs to iron their shirt when you’re Tom Cruise right? Right. It seems as if Cruise loves to keep it simple with his style. He has gone for a plain white buttoned down shirt. To add a little bit of that casual flair, he has rolled up his sleeves half way with big cuffs. To add even more of that casual tint, he has left the top button undone. Cruise has gone for a dark blue pair of straight jeans, and a pair of black leather shoes. Again, the need for accessories is unnecessary when you’ve got a mane like Cruise does. He is wearing a pair of black RayBans with his beautiful bangs falling gracefully right on the edge of them.

Cruise in Nikes

Honestly, we never imagined Cruise to be wearing a pair of Nikes. Especially after seeing him in boots all the time. Though it is a nice change. The actor has gone for trucker jacket, which is on the longer side this time around. And the colour of the jacket is navy blue. It’s hard to say what type of shirt he is wearing under the jacket. It appears to be a white buttoned down shirt from the collar and it is tucked inside of his blue straight jeans with a green wash on the front. The accessories are on the heavier side this time around. Cruise has gone for a silver ring on his wedding finger, a pair of shades because he proper loves those, and a black belt to keep things together. Oh and the Nike shoes as well, that are the standout. The Nikes are low-tops and are a mix of green and black with a sky blue trademark bike check mark.

Which look did you dig the most?

“Haider” was the name on everyone’s lips walking through the Tom Ford showroom on Thursday in Milan.

Haider Ackermann , the house’s new creative director, is already hard at work, presumably figuring out how to imprint his signature lyrical tailoring on his first Tom Ford collection, which will be presented in Paris in February.

In the meantime, spring 2025 was a studio effort. And as a baseline to reestablish the codes of the house, it more than delivered, mining the sexy, svelte 1960s and 1970s aesthetic that put Ford on the fashion map in a concise commercial collection with lots of great-looking sheer knits, liquid jumpsuits and blouses open to the navel over skimpy fringe skirts and short shorts — all in pale makeup shades, black and ivory.

And they didn’t skimp on the eveningwear, offering a pistachio green featherweight metal sequin minidress ready for a stage, a silver metal fringe bandeau bound in snakeskin fit for a pop princess over low slung pants, and Lurex tuxedo tailoring begging for Ackermann’s touch. Soon enough.

Tom Cruise's big boy boots for big, post-bulk boys

Tom Cruise's big boy boots for big postbulk boys

Tom Cruise might not be running around town in the latest Salvatore Ferragamo fit. He might not be one of Prada's poster boys. He also might not have bagged himself a Calvin Klein campaign. But that's because he's not about fashion fads. He wears what he wants. Better yet: he knows what works, which is a key tenet to dressing successfully in your 50s (and beyond).

Where half of young Hollywood is getting weird with their clothes as menswear 2.0 ushers in new rules about what's popping on the red carpet, he's doing his bit in classic tuxedos. Patent leather shoes instead of runway-fresh cowboy boots .

But that's not to say he doesn't get clothes. While he might approach trends and brands that skew classic, the man knows a big old fit when he sees one. Proper menswear. Stuff that works for you, your dad, and his dad. When he's out for dinner, he's a blue suit man . Blue tie too. He loves a polo shirt – even if they aren't the hottest thing of the moment on the runways in Paris and Milan. Jeans? Selvedge, only . Tom Cruise has also found the flattering pieces for a body hard-won in the gym. It flatters, but never shows off.

Tom Cruise

He also loves a proper pair of boots and knows that they're the timeless addition. He's been rocking those since day dot. With jeans. With chinos . With everything, really. Case in point: he was photographed this week in a pair of worn-in boots that look reliable, comfortable; the sort of boots that helped you land an alarming stunt from the wing of a fighter jet; the sort of boots that've been returned time and time again to the same boot guy (and yes, they're on first name terms).

Paired with a navy shirt and a pair of rinse-wash jeans, his workman boots were cut from solid leather, and came with an inoffensive round toe. Nothing flash, but designed for everywhere wear. And plenty of brands offer this sort of boot: Red Wing, Danner, Gresnon, Paraboot, all with their own legions of dedicated followers for the last 20 years. And they still look good.

It's not front row stuff in Milan – and that's precisely the point.
