There is eight miles of queuing traffic on M56 near Runcorn.
This is due to a collision on the eastbound carriageway between junction 14 (Helsby) and junction 12 (Runcorn).
It is not clear how many vehicles were involved, but Highways England reports that a vehicle 'left the carriageway'. Fortunately, there are no injuries.
One lane was closed while recovery for the vehicles was managed, reports Cheshire Live.
Despite the reopening of the M56 lane, there are eight miles of queuing traffic on approach to the scene of the collision.
The latest from travel monitoring site Inrix reads: "Severe delays and queueing traffic for eight miles due to accident, now on the hard shoulder on M56 Eastbound between J14 A5117 (Chester Services / Helsby) and J12 A557 (Runcorn). Congestion to beyond J15 (M53 interchange). Traffic is also slowing to look on the opposite side due to onlookers.
"This is also causing delays on the M53 Southbound on approach to the M56 and the A56 through Helsby and Frodsham. Travel time is around 60 minutes. All lanes have been re-opened.
"Lane one (of three) was closed until around 08:10 now the vehicles have been moved to hard shoulder and the barrier damage is still awaiting to be seen, however all lanes are now running."
Highways officers have now removed the vehicle from the carriageway, but lengthy delays remain.
In a tweet North West Motorway Police said: "Police and Highways on scene. Thankfully none injury RTC - Highways will now arrange for the recovery of the vehicles involved."
