West Midland Safari Park confirms full opening date and here’s how to book

The Worcestershire park will soon fully open having been allowed to welcome visitors from June 15, but just opening its drive-through part of the venue

A popular safari park in Worcestershire has confirmed when it will be fully open to the public having partially opened last week.

West Midland Safari Park welcomed back visitors to the venue on June 15 after a near three-month absence due to the coronavirus lockdown imposed on March 23.

Last week visitors were able to flock to the drive-through area in the park – and it was so popular that when tickets went on sale on at 10.30am on Thursday, June 11, the park’s website crashed.

At the time West Midland Safari Park tweeted: “Tickets are now on sale - but please BEAR WITH US!

“Due to unprecedented demand for tickets, our website may be slow. We appreciate your patience & support while our team works on this!

“If you can't get on the website, please try again later. ”

Now the park has announced it will be fully open from July 4 – the day when bars, restaurants, hotels and hairdressers are allowed back too!

The walk-through areas including Penguin Cove, Land of the Living Dinosaurs, Ice Age, Aquarium and Reptile House will all be open.

And the site’s theme park will also open with safety measures in place.

These include no animal feeding, staying one metres apart (not two from July 4), with extra cleaning facilities in place and hand sanitisers.

The park says its two outdoor eating facilities will be available and its two restaurants, which will have fewer tables ‘to keep our guests safe’.

The theme park, where you need to pay for rides separately, will see some rides have empty seats with visitors asked to "queue responsibly and maintain at least 1-metre distance from other guests".

Visitors are also advised that stay may wear personal protective equipment – but anyone visiting is not required to do so.

A spokesperson on West Midland Safari Park ’s Facebook page said: “We're thrilled to let you know that we will be re-opening fully from 4th July!

“Tickets will be available to book from this Friday 26th, at 9.00am.

“The walk-through areas of the park will be opening, so you can now visit areas like Penguin Cove, Land of the Living Dinosaurs, Ice Age, Aquarium and Reptile House! “The theme park will be open with new safety measures! Ride wristbands & tickets are charged extra. “Pre-booking is still ESSENTIAL. All tickets must be booked in advance online with an arrival time slot. We cannot guarantee entry for anyone who hasn’t booked online."

• Minimum age for participants is 6 years. Children aged 6-15 years must be accompanied by a full paying adult.
• VIP Experiences can either be booked for a specific date or on an open-dated basis valid for the season. Whilst we will always try to accommodate changes in date, this is subject to availability and cannot always be guaranteed.
• Once an experience has been purchased, refunds will not be considered.

VIP INDIAN RHINO FEED – EXTRA INFO

• Meeting and feeding our Indian rhinos
• Minimum age for participants is 6 years.

VIP LEMUR & MEERKAT FEED – EXTRA INFO

• Meeting and feeding our lemurs and meerkats
• Children aged 6-15 years must be accompanied by a full paying adult.

VIP FAMILY CREATURE FEATURE – EXTRA INFO

• Meeting some smaller animals which could include chinchillas, tenrecs, rabbits, cockroaches or giant African snails

VIP MINI KEEPER EXPERIENCE – EXTRA INFO

• Meeting, feeding and helping to care for animals such as chinchillas, rats, meerkats, ferrets, rabbits and even some fascinating invertebrates
• A keeper certificate
• Suitable for children between the ages of 5-9 years.
• One parent may accompany the Mini Keeper to watch during the Experience, but they will not be able to participate.  They will only have access to the Safari Walk areas, and will not gain access to the Safari Drive.

VIP CARNIVORE KEEPER EXPERIENCE – EXTRA INFO

LION LODGE – OPENING SOON

We will be offering luxury overnight stays with lions in early summer 2023! The accommodation will be authentically integrated into the brand-new lion habitat, located past our African Village. Guests will experience an immersive and unforgettable overnight wildlife encounter, like no other.

The Lion Lodges will feature open-plan living and luxury interiors, with breathtaking views from every room into the new lion habitat, through floor-to-ceiling windows.

TIGER LODGE

We will be offering luxury overnight stays with Sumatran tigers in autumn 2022! The accommodation will be authentically integrated into the newly built tiger habitat, giving guests an immersive and unforgettable overnight wildlife encounter, like no other.

The tiger lodges will feature open plan living and luxury interiors, with breathtaking views from every room into the new tiger habitat through floor to ceiling windows.

Big Cat VIP Lodge Experience

Book on to an exclusive overnight animal experience - a unique treat for anyone who adores big cats and would like to see what goes on behind-the-scenes at the Safari Park when we are not open to the public! (18+ only).

Your experience begins with a stay in a fabulous lodge overlooking stunning wildlife. In the evening, indulge in a gourmet five-course tasting menu, paired with expertly selected drinks, at our stylish and exclusive on-site venue, Cellarz. After  your dinner, you will hear about the conservation work we help with at West Midlands Safari Park from one of our experienced team.

The next morning, prepare for the ultimate experience as you go on a hands-on VIP encounter. From preparing meals to helping maintain their habitats, you’ll witness first-hand the incredible care and attention that goes into looking after the amazing big cats at the Park. You’ll be overwhelmed with the size, beauty and strength of these magnificent creatures by getting to see them close enough to make eye contact – a truly breathtaking experience.

Please note, other guests will be present during the experience.

You’ll be able to meet our carnivores and learn their names, see their individual personalities and have some amazing photo opportunities.

There is a maximum of two adults per booking.

Arrival Day

12:00pm - Check into your Lodge.

12:30pm – Enjoy a grazing board lunch in your Lodge and spend the afternoon relaxing and watching the wildlife outside your window.

5:00pm-7:00pm – Head to our unique and stylish on-site venue, Cellarz, situated underneath the Georgian manor, Spring Grove House. More about Cellarz here please. Here you can enjoy a fabulous five-course tasting menu with drinks flight included, while you listen to a fascinating wildlife conservation talk delivered by one of our knowledgeable team members. 

You can relax and socialise with other guests until 10:00pm, or retreat to your Lodge for a peaceful evening.

Departure Day

7:00am – Start your day with a continental breakfast delivered to your Lodge, as you watch the sun rise over the Park.

8:45am – The excitement begins as your personal VIP Guide takes you on an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience. Get hands-on with the day-to-day care of the big cats – assist in feeding, learn about their routines, and help maintain their habitats. This is your chance to truly experience what it’s like to be a Carnivore Keeper. Please note, other guests will be present during the experience.

12:45pm – Return to your Lodge to get cleaned up and enjoy our in-lodge dinning menu. Lunch is prepared in jars for you to heat and enjoy at your convenience.

1:00-2:00pm – A special goody bag and USB of photos from your morning adventure will be delivered to your Lodge. Afterwards, feel free to explore the African Walking Trail, where you might catch views of giraffes, rhinos and elephants. Or wander down to see the big cats at Tiger Tropics and Lion Ridge.

4:00pm – Check out of your Lodge and head home to regale your family and friends with this once in a lifetime experience!

Safari Lodges
