The 7 best places for honeymoon outside India for a budget of Rs 1 lakh right now

By Aarthi Baliga

Best places for honeymoon abroad safely under Rs 1 lakh budget

Eating croissants at a sidewalk cafe in Paris, taking a gondola ride in Venice, skiing in Switzerland – we’ve all had a certain notion of what the best places for honeymoon look like. But in a Covid world, a lot of these options aren't available.

Right now, only a small list of countries are allowing tourists from India. However, that does not mean that the available choices for the best places for honeymoon are any less spectacular. From learning how to scuba dive in Thailand to taking a gastronomical sojourn in Sri Lanka, there is something for every couple. All you need is a great itinerary and a sweet hotel deal. We’re here to show you how to nail both – while staying safe and following Covid protocols, of course – and that too within a budget.

Post- nuptials , there is nothing better than relaxing on the beach with the sound of waves crashing in the background. Having said that, if you are not into being a bum on the beach for your entire duration, then Thailand is among the best places for honeymoon for you. Start with Bangkok . The government has listed 17 places (Bangkok included) where travellers have to stay for 7 days minimum before exploring the rest of the country. Here you can explore the electric night markets , feast at the legendary street food market in Old Town , cycle around Chinatown and take in the best city views at the Mahanakhon tower’s rooftop observation deck. Stay at the Cabochon hotel for a Shanghai meets Parisian vibe. Don’t miss the sunset at their stylish rooftop bar .

Next, head to Koh Tao . It’s one of the best places to scuba dive . The island is lined with dive shops, which means the prices are cheap thanks to the competition. The two of you can sign up for a PADI or SSI Open Water Certification if you are willing to dedicate 4 days. Or you can go down up to 12 metres without certification. If you already have a certificate then you can sign up for advanced courses. The island has a great nightlife scene as well for when you want to take a break from all the lessons.

Check in at the View Point Resort here. The rooms are minimal with a boho-rustic vibe. Think gorgeous thatch villas with the jungle view on one side and the turquoise ocean on the other. It’s the perfect place to unwind at the end of an eventful day.

Covid-19 regulations: Both of you will need to show proof of double vaccination, a negative RT-PCR test, a confirmed payment of one night stay at a SHA+, AQ, OQ or AHQ accommodation and an insurance policy coverage of no less than US$50,000

Among our all-time best places for honeymoon, Sri Lanka is basically a food -lover's heaven at a short flight's distance. Take one that lands in Colombo in the morning and you can start your day at Sugar Bistro for breakfast. Try the kiri bath or pol roti with a side of pol sambol . Fluffy rice hoppers from any street side vendor is always a good idea. So is their famous kothu parotta . If you are looking for something romantic, then book a table at the sexy Gallery Cafe for a candle lit dinner. Espresso lovers should check out the Black Cat cafe and Kopi Kade . For a seafood buffet, head to the Curry Leaf at Hilton Colombo . Then there’s of course a mandatory visit to The Ministry of Crab . Book in advance: Tables fill up fast here.

For sunshine and seafood lovers, there’s plenty of beaches to choose from. We suggest Unawatuna for the excellent nightlife. Go to SkinnyToms Deli Cafe for Benedict Egg Hoppers and Cafe Ceylon for fresh oysters. For a more relaxed vibe, head to Hikkaduwa . Salty Swamis Cafe and Surf Shop attracts tourists from across the globe for its wholesome menu. Don’t forget to try the delish banana bread here. Stay at the Amari Galle . Each room here has an ocean view and the hotel is known for its freshly caught seafood. The other highlight here includes the staple egg hoppers: Best had with a hearty meat curry or a spicy sambal .

You don’t have to give up on the idea of Maldives just because you cannot snag a sponsored trip like every other Bollywood celeb. Simply skip the whole overwater villa thing for a different experience at one of the world's best places for honeymoon, that still includes soul-stirring views and pristine white beaches.

Check into the Bandos at North Male Atoll . The resort is only a 10-minute speedboat ride from the airport and besides taking snaps of ‘grammable views you can take part in snorkelling , a sunset dolphin cruise , a whale shark expedition and scuba diving .

Another great find is the Reethi Faru resort . Opt for their garden villa if you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg. Spend all day at the beach and you will forget that you don’t have an ocean view room.

Covid-19 regulations: Show a fully vaccinated certificate and a negative RT-PCR test taken at least 96 hours before the trip.

If the idea of vegetating for hours on the beach seems unbearable to you, then a city like Singapore should rank high on your list of best places to honeymoon. And the experience starts right at the Changi Airport , which has a seven-storey tall indoor waterfall , a nature themed shopping centre with 300 stores and an indoor forest with suspended walkways .

Once in the city, you can enjoy the beautiful Gardens by the Bay , the centuries-old temples , a night safari where you can see nocturnal animals and some of the best food (check out East Coast Road ).

Nature lovers can hike along The Southern Ridges: a 6.2 mile recreational trail that connects five parks along the southern ridge of Singapore. The landscape varies from jungle-like canopies of trees to unusual flora and fauna. You will find the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore (lofted 256 feet in the air) here.

Book a room at The Mono , where the interiors and the exteriors are done in stark black and white. The hotel is set in a restored, traditional heritage shop house and is conveniently located in the heart of Chinatown .

Covid-19 regulations: From November 29th, fully-vaccinated tourists can travel.

It’s a shame that Nepal is not often on the radar of people searching for the best places for honeymoon. After all, it’s got breathtaking views of the Himalayas , dramatic landscapes and lush valleys. Serious trekkers can explore the Annapurna Circuit and Mt Everest .

If you are not a mountain goat, then drive down to Nagartok and check-in at the Hotel Mystic Mountain . It’s a one-hour drive from Kathmandu. Each room here gives you clear views of the Himalayas so you don’t have to compromise on sexy time to appreciate nature.

However, you cannot come to Nepal and not explore Kathmandu . The chaotic city is home to seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites . Head to the Kathmandu Durbar Square to soak in the history and culture of the place. Stop at Patan Museum Cafe or Sanepa’s Yellow House for brunch. Try Nepalese cuisine at Krishnarpen restaurant , located at the glamorous Dwarika Hotel . And stay at the Traditional Homes Swotha , which is conveniently located three minutes from the Durbar Square .

Covid-19 regulations: Show proof of full vaccination and a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours before the trip.

Whether you wish to escape to the beach, explore historic towns, or just enjoy each other’s company alongside a private pool, there’s a dream destination to fill your heart’s desire.

To help narrow down your search, here are some of the best summer honeymoon destinations around the globe—all ideal for kicking back, relaxing, and reconnecting after the rush of wedding planning is over.

The Cycladic Islands of Greece are at peak season in the summertime, as warm temperatures coincide with the opening of beach clubs and restaurants in the region. Crowds of tourists might make visiting tricky in July and August, but locals prefer heading to the islands in June and September for a calmer retreat. The Domes group has two stunning properties on Mykonos and Santorini that are perfect for honeymooners hoping to island hop. Each hotel is located a five to 10-minute drive away from the islands’ most popular spots and offers stunning sunset views and delicious, regionally-informed fine dining. Plus, many of the luxury suites have their own private pools for couples looking to balance alone time with the excitement of the bustling islands. In Mykonos, there are beach clubs like Soho House outpost Scorpios and boat trips to the ancient ruins of Delos; honeymooners in Santorini can enjoy the views of Oia and enjoy local cuisine and sip on Assyrtiko at the popular winery Domaine Sigalas .

South Africa

If exploring the wildlife of South Africa has always been a dream for you and your spouse-to-be, book a honeymoon safari from May to September. For a romantic escape in nature, consider a suite at the Great River Fish Lodge on the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. Guests can enjoy large viewing decks and private plunge pools from their spacious suites and adventure on daily game drives. Another excellent option for safaris is the &Beyond Tengile River Lodge on the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The hotel’s eco-friendly design features glamorous, bespoke interiors that create a lovely respite after a day out with guides. A few nights in Cape Town are also a must. Book a stay at the waterfront One&Only Cape Town and be sure to make time to explore the region’s many vineyards .

While dry temperatures might be toasty in the South of France throughout the summer, it’s also an incredible time to explore the coastline and sip on the region’s famed rosé. If you want to enjoy the Mediterranean, head to The Maybourne Riviera for gorgeous modern interiors featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that reveal incredible cliffside views and a hopping beach club open all season. Spend a few nights out at Capelongue to experience a luxe, relaxing Provençal retreat with beautiful vistas of Lubéron and its own Michelin-starred restaurant, then head to the the gorgeous city of Aix-en-Provence for a stay at Villa Saint-Ange , which offers the rare luxury of a lush escape close to the city center. Pro tip: The region’s famed lavender fields are best seen in the earlier part of the summer before harvest begins in August.

Couples getting married in the Northeast need not go far to enjoy a relaxing postnuptial vacation. If you’re hosting a New York City celebration, consider staying a night or two at the Ritz Carlton New York Central Park to enjoy unparalleled views of the park and a La Prairie spa treatment before jetting off to a distant honeymoon destination. Another excellent mini-moon option is the Auberge Collection’s idyllic Mayflower Inn & Spa in Connecticut, with charming interiors by Celerie Kemble, farm-to-table dining, and incredible grounds that are ready for both lazy and active summer activities—all ideal for some romantic R&R. Of course, honeymooners should absolutely take advantage of the inn’s beautiful spa retreat by The Well with its state-of-the-art facilities, holistic treatments, and dreamy design.

If the lush jungle and beaches of Bali have always called to you as your dream honeymoon destination, it’s best to book your trip during the dry season from May to October. Luxury comes at a lower price on the island, so an incredible experience awaits no matter your budget. If you wish to splurge on a clifftop contemporary retreat along the coast, book a stay at the Alila Uluwatu . Each villa is equipped with numerous amenities and private pools, while the top-tier service can be tailored to your taste from “discrete” to “indulgent.” If you prefer an escape immersed in the jungle, Como Shambhala Estate is the perfect resort to let you and your new spouse focus on wellness and relaxation.

June is one of the best times to embrace la dolce vita in Italy . With temperatures ranging from the 60s to 80s, honeymooners can explore the storied museums, vineyards, and coastlines before the crowds and humidity increase in July and August. Honeymooners who have already toured the historic cities of Rome , Florence, and Venice can avoid the rush of summer tourism and take advantage of the relaxing retreats throughout the country. If you’re looking for a White Lotus -inspired vacation (without the drama, of course), take a trip to Taormina in Sicily for a beachside honeymoon. Grand Hotel Timeo, A Belmond Hotel is a stunning property for your stay with old-world charm dripping from its wallpapered halls and six-acre gardens. For an intimate escape focused on food, wine, and wellness, head to the hills and relax after your nuptials at the Monteverdi Tuscany . Located in the UNESCO World Heritage site Val d’Orcia, the hotel brings next-level fine dining to the medieval town. Any architecturally minded honeymooners heading to Capri might want to book a few nights at Punta Tragara . Designed by Le Corbusier, the interiors are as much of a draw as the beautiful ocean views. If you want to infuse your classic holiday with a modern touch, you might want to stay a while at Il Sereno , a Lake Como hotel designed with a refined, minimalist sensibility by Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola.

If you want a perfect blend of beaches and stunning wildlife, head to the African island nation of Mauritius. June and September are the sweet spot months to avoid the extreme heat of the summer and slightly cooler temperatures of the winter—although numbers during the months of July and August rarely dip below the 60s. National parks offer beautiful jungle excursions while the coastline is famed for its incredible beaches. Lux* Grand Baie is definitely a hot spot on the island for couples that don't mind balancing relaxing spa visits with dj sets by the pool. For a more restful retreat, book a stay at the Maradiva Villas Resort perched above Tamarin Bay. It’s important to note for LGBT+ honeymooners that while same-sex marriages are not legal in the country, the government has banned all discrimination against same-sex couples.

Andaman and nicobar islands in march.

Average temperature: 32°/23°C

Average rainfall: 35 mm

The Andaman and Nicobar islands are an archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. Some of these islands are inhabited by indigenous tribes and are off-limits to tourists.

Andaman islands is an excellent honeymoon destination in India in March. Andaman has gorgeous white sand beaches with turquoise water, palm-lined shores, mangroves and tropical rainforests.

It is one of the best destinations in India for scuba diving and snorkelling. Andaman is special not only because of its beautiful and clean beaches but also because it has about 180 coral species! Scuba diving here means seeing the colourful coral reef on the island.

Nicobar island is a restricted area where tribals live. So, to enter Nicobar, locals and foreigners need permits and are not allowed to roam freely. Neither locals nor foreigners nor allowed to stay there overnight.

Andaman’s maximum temperature is 32°C, and the minimum temperature is 23°C. So if you visit in March, you’ll have to stay away from the beach during the noon.

Port Blair is the capital city of Andaman, where tourists land. You can live in Port Blair for a while, do some sightseeing and then live for a few days on Havelock or Neil island. Havelock island has Radhanagar beach ranks in all ‘best beaches in Asia’ lists.

What to see and do in the Andaman islands

See Cellular Jail (do watch the light and sound show here), Zonal Anthropological Museum, and Naval Marine Museum Samudrika in Port Blair.

See Havelock island (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil island (Shaheed Dweep)

You can also see Ross and Smith Islands in North Andaman.

See Baratang islands if you want to see limestone caves and dense mangrove creeks.

Goa, on the southwestern coast of India, is one of the best places to visit in India in March because it’s a fabulous beach destination with warm temperatures, great food, cheap alcohol and raging parties.

For those who’d like to relax and not party, you can live near a quieter beach and enjoy the peaceful, laid-back Goan life. Goa also has idyllic beaches where you can relax and have a beer at the ‘shacks’ on the beach.

The average temperature in March is 27°C. The maximum temperature can go up to 33°C. So, it’s hot at noon. It gets cooler at night; the temperature is around 20°C.

The sun is quite intense during the day, so carry a powerful sunscreen with high SPF and plan your days so you can be indoors from 12-3 p.m.

What to see and do in Goa

Goa has two regions – North and South Goa. North Goa has Baga Beach, Anjuna Beach, Vagator Beach and Calangute Beach, which are full of shacks and resorts. You’ll find lots of party’s happening here.

South Goa has Palolem Beach , Colva Beach, Butterfly Beach, and Majorda Beach, which are quiet, secluded and serene beaches. Choose which part you’d like to stay in based on what sort of vacation you are looking for.

You can do water sports like parasailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking and jet-skiing in Goa. Many beaches like Sinquerim, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Dona have small operators who offer water sports.

Goa also has Dudhsagar Falls , one of the highest falls in India. However, check with locals if it’s worth visiting the Falls in March, as there may be little water flowing down during this time.

Many Catholics live in Goa, along with Hindus. So you can see Goan catholic culture here. Goa has a unique cuisine with delicious dishes that non-vegetarians love.

Mumbai in march.

Average temperature: 33°/21°C

Average rainfall: 0 mm

Mumbai, India’s largest city, is one of the best places to visit in India in March because the weather’s good during this time; there are no rains.

The maximum temperature is 31 °C, and the minimum temperature is 21 °C. Though if you are not from a coastal place, you could find the coastal city’s humidity challenging to deal with.

Mumbai has an international airport that’s very well connected to the UK , US and Europe . The city is one of the most preferred tourist destinations in India by foreign tourists.

It’s a busy city with people with a cosmopolitan culture. It’s also the heart of the thriving Hindi film industry of the country.

Mumbai has beaches, museums, colonial architecture, fabulous cafes, amazing street food and other unique places worth seeing. I’d suggest living in Colaba, the southernmost part of the city, or Bandra or Juhu.

Bandra and Juhu are posh suburbs with swanky cafes and clubs and are pretty close to the other places worth seeing in Mumbai. They are also where many Bollywood stars live.

You can’t cover all the cultural and historical things the city offers unless you spend at least four to five days.

What to see and do in Mumbai

See the Gateway of India, shop at Colaba Causeway and see the Taj Mahal Palace (a luxury hotel with Indo-Saracenic architecture). Eat at the Leopold Cafe in Colaba.

See the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus , an ornate Victorian Railway station.

See the Haji Ali Dargah , a mosque off the coast of Worli.

Take a walk at Marine drive, a 3-kilometre promenade along the sea.

See Mount Mary Church in Bandra and shop at Hill Road and Linking road, the local markets selling clothes, bags and jewellery.

There are also excellent museums like the Prince of Wales museum and the Bhau Daji Lad museum.

You take a tour of Film city, the part of the city where films and TV serials are shot. You can see pre-designed sets and film studios through such a tour.

Jaipur in March

Average temperature: 34° / 14°

Jaipur, also called ‘pink city’, is the capital of Rajasthan, a state in Northern India. Jaipur is one of the best places to visit in India in March for its incredible palaces and marvellous forts. Besides its extraordinary palaces, Jaipur is also known for gemstones, handicrafts and craft museums.

In March, the maximum daytime temperature is in the range of 32-34°C. It’s cooler at night, and the temperature can go as low as 14°C. It’s windy during the day.

Jaipur has beautiful heritage hotels, i.e. hotels based in palaces/havelis, which have a distinctive ambience. So if you’re visiting Jaipur, I’d suggest living in a heritage hotel for a different luxury experience.

If you aren’t looking for luxury, I’ve added a mid-budget hotel and hostel to the accommodation suggestions.

What to see and do in Jaipur

See the Jantar Mantar , a UNESCO world heritage site with many astronomical instruments.

See the City Palace and the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum, dedicated to Jaipur’s last ruling king. The royal family of Jaipur, Man Singh II’s descendants, still live in the City Palace.

Delhi, the country’s capital, one of the best tourist places in India in March, is also one of the best places to travel in India in March. Delhi is quite cold before March, with temperatures dropping as low as 1-4°C.

The weather starts getting pleasant from March onwards. The temperature is 14-30°C in March — it’s ideal for sightseeing.

Delhi has outstanding historical monuments, great museums and delectable street food. It also has the Sansad Bhavan ( parliament house ), which is the seat of the bicameral government in India.

The city is very different depending on whether you are in Old Delhi or New Delhi. Old Delhi has narrow lanes; parts of it are not accessible through a four-wheeler.

It is the historic part of the city; its origin dates to the time of the Mughal rule in India. And New Delhi has planned, wide tree-lined streets with government buildings and corporate offices flanking its sides.

You may have heard of Chandni Chowk, a busy shopping street in Old Delhi, famous for its clothes and parathas. Delhi is great for cheap street shopping. Here’s more about what to do and see in Delhi –

What to see and do in Delhi

You can also see the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Indian president’s residence, on certain days. Here’s information about when you can visit.

Out of the many museums, I suggest seeing National Museum, a museum with Indian artefacts from different centuries. You should also visit the Archaeological Museum, which houses Mughal antiques and the Museum of Folk and Tribal Art, which has specimens of folk art from all over the country. There are 29 other great museums in Delhi about agriculture, art, science, and the Indian police. So choose what you’d like to see.

Don’t leave Delhi without doing some street shopping. You’ll find cheap yet tasteful things here. Go to the Sarojini Nagar Market for western clothes and Delhi Haat for handicrafts, bags, jewellery and clothes
