Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting Tom Jones tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance –  Ticketmaster.com.au .

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as you are progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the  Waiting Room  and when you’re being pushed through  the Smart Queue  and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and when an act is this popular, sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

Live Review: Tom Jones – Ages & Stages Tour 2024 in Perth

20 March 2024 at Kings Park Botanic Gardens in Perth, Western Australia

Review by  Sheldon Ang

Photography by  Sheldon Ang Photography

We are immersed in a momentous chapter in music history through our five sences, de-crystallising the dreamy imagery engraved in our subconscious from the preludes of his stratospheric fame on the black and white TV, to the trademark gyration across the world stage of the discotheque era. Tonight, there may be 50 shades of grey among the crowd, with thousands attending as repeat customers of Tom Jones, though many have renewed their vows with Sir Tom Jones through the attendance of their children and grand-children. With the seeds and flowers bloomed with the younger generation gravitating towards the 83 year old icon, the legacy of Tom Jones shall linger in the playlist of the next generations for another 60 years.

ages & stages tour

From the sex bomb to a charismatic statesman; “I’m Growing Old”, said the octogenarian Tom Jones in a lyrical rendition as he graced the stage for the first time in the Ages and Stages Tour of Australia. His presence was magnified by a whiskey-on-ice baritone that reverberated across Kings Park like no other. The Welshman still commands his fair share of crowd aggregation, as the iconic star stood and sang at the sold-out night at King Park, Perth in Western Australia. And if that wasn’t not enough, he will return for the following night to a near sell-out crowd.

Understandably, the ageless statesman is no longer the trademarked gyrating, hip twirling, knee bending and squatting performer of the last millennium. Instead, he projects his stunning rich vocals as his weapon of choice – and frankly – that’s appreciated by the paying fans. No fancy props, just Tom, his band, large screen of context and that high end whisky-signature voice.  The charisma of Tom Jones was undeniably addictive as he lifted through the hooks of his songs, spanning across 60 years.

ages & stages tour

Following the confession at the start of Bobby Cole cover, he continued with Not Dark Yet (Bob Dylan cover) and the sing along track of It’s Not Usual through a bossa nova, shaka shaka, Iberian calypso rendition as the evening transformed into a beach bar café par ambience. The bodies on the floor jiggled, with foot as the nostalgic rain poured from the heavens in this serene open air venue.

For the sake of career longevity, the choreography have been rehashed to suit. Sex bomb were immersed in a rendition of vocal seduction, almost a reflection of his time over the years that involved sipping champagne in a Las Vegas club with the likes of Elvis and Chuck Berry – more of that later. Tom Jones’s vocal projection drove deep. If our eyes were shut, we would be listening to the Tom Jones of the 70’s – the decade that is.  His vocals in a Capella propagated effortlessly without the clutter of music at the intro.  As the rhythm section struck accord, the crowd were wood by the bluesy rendition of this classic. The punchy projection of the words, “Sex Bomb Sex Bomb” thundered through the sound system, explosively reverberating across the grounds of Kings Park. He occasionally moved with the innuendo, purring through the extension of the “R”, oozing a desire that only Tom Jones could emanate. Fans who gravitated towards the classic mirrored his stance, with fists grabbing and punching into the air through the canopy of heads, as the crowd sang as if they were unashamedly extolling about their own sexual prowess and virtues. At this point, it was obvious that Tom Jones’ deep driving voice is richer than most working artists half his age, overriding the accumulative karaoke faux pas recoiling from the well-intendef fans in Perth.

ages & stages tour

Green Green Grass of Home was one of the sing-alongs of the night, with the intro taking fans to the 60’s within 0.7 of a second, followed by the self-appointed voices of seven thousand riding on the groove train of Tom Jones. Indeed, the pasture was greener on this side of town tonight. The track is the single of the 1967 album of the same name where Jones began to shift from the teenage-targeted audience to the more matured crowd. Song Fact – the track tells the story of a condemned person within four walls in a prison, reminiscing a poignant part of his life. From the euphoria among the fans, we doubt they knew the gruesome meaning to this Jonny Darrell cover of 1965.

And as if Tom Jones needing validation, the vocal clarity performed in ballads such as Borderline and I Won’t Crumble If You Fall were accentuated without the music clutter. The crowd dived into dead silence, grappling to every word of this Welsh crooner. The magical moment was catalysed by the stunning lighting from above, forming a silhouette through the smoky air.

ages & stages tour

A dedication to the late Prince was in order, as Tom Jones still conveyed the message with an “adults only” believability with swaggerish track in Kiss. The propensity, the bravado and the occasional cheeky “Wooh” with the attitude of a 40-something silver fox strengthened his tenacious fortitude of his performance. The energy in his voice and the physical projection resonated as he jived in slow motion, moving his hand across his body and upper thighs while the crowd screamed. Indeed, the remnants from the 70s and 80s linger.

You still got it, Tom! Said a fan.

If I Only Knew was a stunning mixture of rock, staccato projection and almost rap in some parts, without any signs of lethargy, whatsoever. Like a rocker, he crossed the stage and thrusted his hips gently while winking at the crowd, subtlety oozing the sexual flair and charm. The breathing techniques and timing were perfect, and not just for his age.

ages & stages tour

Towards the end, Tom reminiscence, “I was in Las Vegas in 71, 72, and I was with Elvis Presley one night…Elvis Presley (emphasising his name, and the crowd acknowledged)…and one night after our show where we were performing in different venues, Elvis said, ‘Chuck Berry is playing, do you want to go and see him’ and I said ‘Sure’ and we went to see Chuck Berry…when we were sitting there, Elvis (again emphasising Elvis) and myself…woo Elvis….this is the truth…’and you know something’ Elvis said, ‘There is the king of rock and roll…right there’”. And so the final song of the night was the upbeat Jonny B Goode. The performance was world class, for any age.

The late Chuck Berry and Elvis are still known as the King of Rock and Roll, and anyone to have witnessed them live would have had a story to tell to their grandchildren. In a similar fashion of legacy and narrative to follow, seeing Tom Jones live carries the same level of wonderment.

Tonight, we’ve witnessed one of the greatest chapters of music history.

Other highlights of his long career include receiving BRIT Awards for Best Male and Outstanding Contribution to Music, a Silver Clef Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Hitmaker Award from the [US] Songwriters Hall of Fame, GQ Man Of The Year, and the prestigious [UK] Music Industry Trust Award.

Tom Jones takes on Trump, immigration and growing old gracefully at New Brunswick show

2 minute read.

ages & stages tour

It was an unusual, but thoroughly entertaining, concert from Tom Jones May 22 at the State Theatre in New Brunswick.

The legendary singer, who stars these days on the British version of “The Voice,” performed new material from his latest album, “Surrounded by Time,” and rearranged versions of his classics — including “It's Not Unusual.” Instead of punchy pop, this time it was an alluring acoustic Bossa Nova vibe with a conga drum intro for his 1965 hit.

Jones and his five-member band explored new areas of his trademark songs at the show, part of his Ages and Stages Tour.

There wasn’t a horn section, but there were a few instruments in the mix, including an electric upright bass that brought some new shadings to the music.

“Delilah” took on a darker, more rock ’n’ roll tone with a prominent Duane Eddy style lead guitar powering the tune.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

There was also an element of social commentary in the show. The Ry Cooder cover “Across the Borderline” evoked sympathy for immigrants coming to America on the southern border, and “Talking Reality Television Blues” took a pointed swipe at Donald Trump without mentioning the former president by name:

" Then a show called 'The Apprentice' came on and pretty soon

An old man with a comb-over had sold us the moon

We stayed tuned in, now here we are

Reality killed by a reality star ."

Jones is edgy at 82, and he still has his big baritone voice. He also can still send his fans into a tizzy. A spoken-word into for his 1999 hit “Sexbomb” had the audience rustling, murmuring and sitting on their edge of their seats.

Age isn’t slowing Jones down, even if he did spend much of the concert sitting on a stool. Jones has embraced growing older, and, in a sense, celebrates it. The show began with the poignant “I'm Growing Old,” while “One Hell of a Life,” in which he asked that we not philosophize him because he’s had “one hell of a life,” was performed during the encore.

Don’t get it wrong, it wasn’t a farewell. It’s Jones in a new, artistically invigorating chapter of his career.

Jones next plays Thursday, May 25, at the Beacon Theater in New York City. Visit tomjones.com for more information.

About Sir Tom Jones

Sir Tom Jones has indeed cemented his place in music history as one of the most successful artists of all time, traversing musical eras and genres, cutting across class divides, and appealing to all genders and ages, mainstream and cutting edge. Jones has always been about the power of the song, and the power of the voice, qualities that have made him a true legend in the music zeitgeist. Despite the passage of time, Jones continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the music world, and his legacy will undoubtedly live on for generations to come.

Born in the mining town of Pontypridd, South Wales, Jones quit school at an early age, working various odd jobs before getting his start as a member of a local band called The Senators, later forming his own group, Tom Jones and the Squires, gigging in clubs and pubs around the local area.

In the early 1960s, he signed with Decca Records in London, kickstarting a successful and diverse career and achieving international fame with his powerful voice and dynamic stage presence. He had a string of hit songs including “It’s Not Unusual”, “What’s New Pussycat?”, “Delilah,” and “Green, Green Grass of Home” which sat alongside his hugely popular 1969-1971 cross-continental TV show, “This is Tom Jones”.  Jones has always had a fundamental interest in a wide range of music, leading him to work with dozens of iconic collaborators over the years, ranging from Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin to Van Morrison, Dolly Parton and Ed Sheeran, just some amongst many.  Although he is well known for his hits, he is first and foremost a diverse artist with a true rhythm and blues soul.

Jones’s career has been filled with numerous honors and accolades, including a deeply cherished knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2006, multiple BRIT Awards, a Silver Clef Award, the prestigious Music Industry Trusts Award, and a Hitmaker Award from the US Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has also acted in films such as Tim Burton’s “Mars Attacks,” and “Playhouse Presents: King of The Teds” for Sky Arts. Along with his yearly touring, Jones has continued to be active in the industry as a longstanding coach on The Voice UK and being a valued contributor at a variety of events and broadcasts such as the 25th Anniversary of MusiCares (honouring Bob Dylan) and the 57th Grammy Awards as well as many others for charitable causes. His 2015 autobiography “Over The Top And Back” was a rollicking best-seller, and his 2021 album release “Surrounded By Time” made him the oldest male to claim a Number 1 spot on the UK Official Albums Chart with an album of new material, overtaking Bob Dylan.

Characterizing Childhood Irritability Across Ages and Stages

May 20, 2024 • Science Update

The occasional meltdown is a common experience in childhood, as many parents and caregivers will attest. How frequent and intense these outbursts are, and the triggers that set them off, varies from child to child, reflecting differences in the trait of irritability. For example, some children seem primed to explode with anger and frustration in response to the slightest challenge or request. Others struggle to calm down once they're upset.

Most of the time, behavioral expressions of anger and frustration are considered normal, but research has shown that high levels of irritability can be an early predictor of later mental illness. So, how can families and health care providers tell if a child’s irritability is a cause for concern?

Researchers Lauren S. Wakschlag, Ph.D.   , Jillian Lee Wiggins, Ph.D.   , Amy K. Roy, Ph.D.   , and colleagues tackled this challenge head-on by drawing on data from the Multidimensional Assessment of Preschoolers (MAPS) Study and other NIMH-funded studies. Through detailed analyses, the researchers capture expressions of irritability across developmental stages via a clinically relevant measurement tool: the MAPS Temper Loss Scale (MAPS-TL). Their findings are published in a series of papers in a special issue   of the International Journal of Methods in Psychiatric Research .

Establishing nuanced approaches to measurement

The special issue details efforts to adapt and validate the MAPS-TL so that it is applicable across a range of ages, from 12 months all the way up to 17 years. These age-specific versions of the MAPS-TL are designed to indicate whether a child's irritability differs from what's typical for their age and developmental stage. This developmental lens helps distinguish expected behaviors that are considered part of growing up (such as “the terrible twos”) from those that warrant clinical concern.

The research presented in the issue also expands the dimensional approach of the MAPS-TL. Rather than presenting irritability as a binary trait—something a child either has or doesn’t have—the MAPS-TL scale accounts for specific expressions of irritable behaviors and the frequency of these behaviors. The scale also accounts for situational context, such as whether the behaviors emerge with peers, parents, or other adults during moments of transition or seemingly out of the blue. The aim is to provide a nuanced understanding of a child’s behavior that reflects the dynamic nature of cognitive, social, and emotional development and the child’s ability to function in the world around them.

Validating measurement tools for real-world use

Importantly, the special issue focuses on translating these advances so they can be applied to real-world clinical practice. In several studies, the researchers demonstrated that brief versions of the MAPS-TL are both reliable and practical in clinical settings. These tools show promise in helping health care providers and families determine when to intervene and make use of available treatments, supports, and services. This is critical because early intervention can change a child’s developmental path, benefitting their mental health and well-being over the long term.

By advancing a dimensional, transdiagnostic approach to measurement and charting a path toward clinical application, the special issue has implications for many domains beyond irritability.

“Taken together, we hope these papers will illuminate the state of dimensional methodology with irritability as exemplar, highlight pragmatic applications and predictive utility and catalyze interest in their scientific and real-world utility,” Wiggins, Roy, and Wakschlag write in their introduction to the issue   .

The special issue includes a  commentary   from Daniel Pine, M.D., Chief of the Section on Development and Affective Neuroscience in the NIMH Intramural Research Program. The entire special issue is available to the public online   .

In Tampa, Bad Bunny’s literally explosive concert doubled as a rodeo: review

  • Gabrielle Calise Times staff

TAMPA — Bad Bunny is the god of Latin trap music and reggaeton. He’s a movie star, a high-flying WWE fighter , a fan of Rays outfielder Randy Arozarena and the on-and-off-again boyfriend of Kendall Jenner .

On Tuesday night inside Amalie Arena, he became an outlaw .

During his Tampa stop of the Most Wanted Tour, Bad Bunny cranked his yeehaw dial up to 10. He sang about drinking and having sex and spending money underneath a cascade of neon cacti and lassos. His dancers backflipped in vests and chaps. At one point, a video on screen showed Bad Bunny galloping through the desert as a lone cowboy. Then the rapper emerged from a tunnel, clopping in atop a live horse.

Across two stages, a floating walkway and five acts, Bad Bunny showed Tampa just how far he’d come from his humble beginnings in Vega Baja. The nearly 2½-hour show featured all of the singer’s favorite topics: his growing wealth, his fascination with carnal pleasures, his Puerto Rican pride.

The Latin superstar, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has had a busy five years since his last performance at Amalie Arena. His 2020 record, “El Último Tour del Mundo,” became the first all-Spanish album to reign supreme on the Billboard 200. He obliterated streaming records worldwide, scooping up Apple Music’s Artist of the Year title in 2022 and claiming seven trophies across the Grammys and Latin Grammys.

Tuesday’s Bad Bunny concert was a seismic event. The bass drum alone rumbled so deep you could feel it in your throat. There were lasers and explosions, fireballs and pillars of smoke, sometimes all shooting off at once. Piercing above all else: the screams. Have you ever heard the feral howls of 20,000 people all about to lose their voice for the rest of the week? It makes a stadium of Swifties sound like church mice.

Many fans came prepared for a rodeo, rocking fringe on everything and belt buckles as big as Texas. Outside the venue, unofficial vendors hawked towers of cowboy hats. Inside, Amalie Arena staff distributed light-up cowboy boot necklaces that flashed in sync with the music — a free souvenir for those who didn’t feel like shelling out $160 for the Bad Bunny Adidas sneakers at the merch table.
