From the West (Madrid/Basque Country)

Take the AP-2 toll highway to AP-7 towards Barcelona and continue onto B-23. Take Exit 610 to merge onto B-10/Roda Litoral toward Barcelona. Take Exit 21 toward Ciutat Vella/Paral-lel and continue onto Passeig Josep Carner. Make a right onto Moll 18A Barcelona, the World Trade Center.

**From the South (Valencia/Tarragona) **

Take the E-15/AP-7 toll highway north toward Barcelona until you merge onto C-32. Take Exit 16B to merge onto Ronda Litoral/E-90/B-10 toward Barcelona/Port. Take Exit 21 toward Ciutat Vella/Paral-lel and continue onto Passeig Josep Carner. Make a right onto Moll 18A Barcelona, the World Trade Center.

Barcelona Cruise Port Parking

Long-term parking is available at the World Trade Center Barcelona and at Terminal E. Both locations have 24-hour security.

Terminal E is outdoors while The World Trade Center lot is indoors and offers optional car-washing services. Be aware that parking here will still require taking the Cruise Bus to Terminals A, B, C, D and E.

You can reserve ahead of time for parking at the World Trade Center Barcelona and at Terminal E .

Getting from Barcelona-El Prat International Airport (BCN) to the Barcelona Cruise Port

Rideshare services such as Uber and Cabify are available at the Barcelona International Airport . Pickup locations vary by terminal; directions will be sent via the apps when you book your ride.

Shuttle services are also available through a variety of companies.

Public Transit from Barcelona-El Prat International Airport to the Barcelona Cruise Port

You can reach the Barcelona cruise terminal by metro and bus if you’re coming from the airport. To get there, take Line 9 and transfer to Line 3 at Zona Universitaria station. The closest metro stop to the port is Drassanes, which sits at the foot of La Rambla.

Once you arrive at the Drassanes station, you'll still have to catch the T3/PortBus cruise shuttle bus , which is about a five-minute walk away. This dedicated cruise passenger shuttle, nicknamed the Blue Bus, runs between Terminals A through E and the Columbus Monument in about 10 minutes. They come about every 15 minutes, but the schedule varies by demand.

There are two express buses from the airport to the city center; both stop at Plaça de Catalunya. From there, you’ll have to take a taxi to the Barcelona cruise port, or Metro L3 to Drassanes and then a taxi or the cruise shuttle bus.

The 46 bus also connects the airport to the city center (stops at Plaça de Espanya), but the ride can be long.

By taxi, the ride from the airport to any of the cruise terminals takes about a half-hour. Taxis are available outside the Arrivals level of the airport.

Getting from the Girona-Costa Brava Airport to the Barcelona Cruise Port

Some budget airlines also fly to Girona–Costa Brava Airport , which is about 90 minutes north from the Barcelona cruise port.

Sagales bus company runs a shuttle between this airport and Barcelona, but bus schedules only coincide with Ryanair flights.

A cab ride to the cruise port in Barcelona from this airport can be very expensive and takes about an hour. In general, flying into the Barcelona-El Prat International Airport is often more convenient.

Restaurants Near the Barcelona Cruise Port (Plus Shopping and Other Services)

Because the cruise port is so large, it is separate from the city center, meaning that the immediate area is mostly industrial. Therefore, there aren't many options in terms of restaurants or shopping within walking distance.

Instead, you can hop on a shuttle for a 10-minute ride to the bottom of La Rambla and wander around the vendors that line the waterfront. You'll find some selling standard souvenirs along with handmade leather goods, interesting crafts, antiques and other notable items.

For a bite close by, find Ample Street (Carrer Ample), where a two-block stretch has a number of fantastic restaurants mixed in with small stores.

You could also visit the Mercado de La Boqueria , which has its entrance conveniently located on La Rambla. This large public market is one of the city's landmarks and is bursting with fresh fruits, vegetables, cured meats, cooking ingredients and much more.

Train Service to the Barcelona Cruise Port

Most trains -- including the high-speed AVE and Renfe lines -- will arrive at the Barcelona Sants station in the north of the city. It's about a 20-minute taxi ride from there to the cruise terminal.

Regional trains can arrive at any of three other train stations in the center of town: Placa de Catalunya, Estacio Franca or Passeig de Gracia. A taxi would be the best option to get to your ship from any of these train stations.

Terminal A  With a total investments of over 15 million euros, the new Terminal A was inaugurated in April 2008. It has a total of 6.200 sqm. divided in two main sections: check-in with 44+26 counters and luggage claiming area with 4 luggage conveyors. It has been designed under the last requirements concerning security, comfort, fast processing and achitectural image and fully complying with International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPS). The 2 mobile gangways specially designed for the new generation of ships and luggage conveyors, ensure passengers not to be mixed with trucks, forklifts and handling staff. 

Terminal B  Terminal B is inaugurated in April 2005 with a total investment of over 10 million euros, was designed to operate home port calls of mega cruise ships up to 150.000 ton and 4.500 passengers. Terminal B has a total of 6.500 sqm. divided in two main areas: check-in area with 46+26 ounters and luggage claiming area with 4 luggage conveyors. It offers the last requirements concerning security, omfort, fast processing and architectural image, and it is equipped with 2 mobile gangways to avoid passengers crossing pier traffic. 

Terminal C  Since 2010 the Terminal C has been improved with a new additional passenger embarkation system, comprising 2 mobile gangways, fix concourse and vertical communications building (escalators, lift and stairs). In 2015, a new concourse was erected connecting terminal C and B enabling to operate the Allure of The Seas during the entire season. A new gangway was also installed in order to be compatible with the new generation of ships.

Terminal World Trade Center (North & South)  The state-of-art World Trade Center is located at the Barcelona Wharf, with two international cruise terminals and a total of 720 meters of berthing line. The North Terminal is prepared to give service to medium-size vessels and South Terminal can receive two ships, the biggest one up to 255 meters long. Both terminals are located at walking distance to city center.

Is it easy to get a taxi from Barcelona cruise port?

All the terminals at Barcelona cruise port have taxi stands, but there are often long lines to catch one. And remember that there will be a surcharge for pier pick-up or drop-off. The last time I was there it came out to about about 10€.

The most affordable way to get to the Barcelona Cruise Port is by using public transportation. The city’s metro system is an affordable and efficient way to get around. You can take the metro from the Drassanes station on the green line, which is located near the port.

To get to the metro station you can take the Cruise Bus service (known as the T3 Port Bus and Blue Bus) offered by the port authority. The buses don’t follow a set timetable, departures are coordinated with the arrival and departure of the cruise ships.

The shuttle bus runs in circles from the port to the Colombus Statue in front of the World Trade Centre and costs €3 per person and €4.5 for a return ticket. From there, you have to walk about 7 minutes to reach the metro station and the beginning of La Rambla.

To continue on by bus you can catch the D20 to the beaches around Barceloneta, or the V13 that will take you to Plaça Universidad, from where you can walk to Plaça Catalunya in about 5 minutes.

The tickets for the Cruise Bus can be purchased with cash (coins or small notes) on the bus itself or online .

Barcelona public transport still operates on paper tickets valid for metro, bus, tram and train, which you can buy from vending machines at most stops.

If there are two or more of you travelling together, you can save money by purchasing a T-familiar travel card for €10 allowing 8 journeys over 30 days to be made by metro or bus in Barcelona.

The fastest way to get to the Barcelona cruise port by public transport is the super-convenient Aerobus , which departs every 5 minutes from both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. A one-way ticket costs only €6.75 and you’ll have WiFi onboard if you need to do some last-minute research.

The bus takes you to Plaça Catalunya where you can take the metro two stops to Drassanes or you can hail a taxi and get to the port for about €10.

How to arrive:

The Airport of Barcelona is about 13 km from Barcelona center. Trains and buses have frequent schedules to the center, but since you have to change a couple of times and also to walk the last part to the terminal, the best option for traveling from the airport to the cruise terminal is to catch a taxi. Taxis are quick and not expensive. The journey will take about 35 min's by taxi. The journey from the airport to the port is unlikely to cost you more than €40. If you are a group of 4 or more you might consider a private transfer with Barcelona-airport-transfers . Luggage storage is only possible at terminal 1 (intercontinental flights) or at train station Sants Estacio (directly connected to the Airport and Plaça de Catalunya.

The Cruise Terminal of Barcelona and getting around:

The port is the starting and arrival point for many Mediterranean cruise itineraries. The seven operating terminals, and the various docks and facilities, are at a short distance from the city center. The terminal is at Port Vell in Barcelona which is at the Southern most end of the famous Ramblas. The seaport terminal is only 10 min's walk from the Ramblas. However, since there are several cruise terminals at the port and if you are in one of the terminals which are further away from the Ramblas you may catch a taxi or the shuttle bus, which will take you to Monument Christopher Columbus which is at the Southern most end of the Ramblas. The shuttle bus service runs from all port terminals down to the monument.

There is a port shuttle bus that goes from the cruise terminals to the Columbus Monument at the bottom of Las Ramblas. The bus is called Cruiser T3 but is often referred to as the 'Blue Port Bus'. The fare is €3 per person, €4.50 return. You cannot use a T10 ticket on this bus. The nearest metro station is Drassanes which is on line L3. It is about 2-3 minutes walk from the Columbus Monument, where the shuttle bus stops. The bus is wheelchair friendly.

A taxi is a good bet (around 15 Euro) if you want to go to Placa de Catalunya with its famous stores and stroll back, slightly downhill, over the Ramblas towards the harbor. Taxi back will be 2.10 euro more, due to port charges. Do not pay more than that as cabbies make you believe.

As your hand luggage is checked by the port authorities itself before entering the modern terminal, there is ample of opportunity to stock up on your favorite alcoholic beverage in the competitive priced tax-free shops before boarding. No carry-on bags will be checked when boarding the ship.

In spring 2018, Carnival Corporation opened a new terminal, which is designed to accommodate Carnival's next-generation ships, powered by eco-friendly Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Ships from eight Carnival brands -- AIDA Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, Cunard, Holland America Line, P&O Cruises (U.K.), Princess Cruises and Seabourn -- visit Barcelona throughout the year.

Maybe you will be there when they are celebrating one of the many fiestas: whether they are celebrating a saint's day or the changing of the seasons, the people of Barcelona fill the streets with color, music, and excitement for young and old. The Picasso Museum in Barcelona is indispensable for understanding the formative years of Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Miró's works are to be found today in the world's principal museums and cultural institutions. Many, however, have remained in Catalonia, mostly in the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona. Throughout his life, Joan Miró took a particular interest in the diversity of materials, forms and colors. It led him to explore and experiment with different art forms such as painting, sculpture, printing techniques, ceramics, the theater, and tapestry. One result of this was a collaboration with Josep Royo, an innovative craftsman, who during the seventies aroused Miró's interest in tapestry and textiles.

The best place for a ride is along the well-marked bike lanes by the sea, which lead to the medieval streets of the old city, past busy ports and down to beaches. If you're willing to brave traffic and tackle a few hills, you can crisscross the city and there are many more bike lanes in the planning. A guide and a map can be purchased at the Tourist Offices .

Hop on hop off . If you are coming to Barcelona for the first time, or if you are planning to stay in the city for a short time, this is one way of getting to quickly see the city's monuments and most important tourist sights of interest.

The Barcelona Tourist Office offers, among other interesting tours, 4 different, english speaking, guided walking tours, including a Gourmet walk in which you will find out about the history of Barcelona's cuisine as well as some of its flagship restaurants and food outlets, and sample some of their products. If you want to see Barcelona from a birds eye point of view, ride the Montjuic cable car . You can buy tickets on board. The entrance is not to far from the harbor, just follow the cables to the entrance. If it is too windy, the cable cars won't run. So simply look to the sky to see whether they are running or not. A small guide book is very useful, as there is so much to see in Barcelona!

If you love to shop then you're going to love Barcelona! Barcelona Spain shopping offers around 35,000 shops. The city is also home to the famous 5 KM shopping line. The shopping line stretches from the top of the Ramblas, through Placa de Catalunya along Passeig de Gràcia and up Avenue Diagonal. Much of the shopping line is pedestrianized making it a pleasant experience to wander from shop to shop without worrying about traffic. Along the Ramblas you will find La Boqueria A very colorful food market which also sells other goods and souvenirs.

Also along the Ramblas you also will find the Gothic Quarter, the medieval part of Barcelona. Here you will find many fine restaurants and outdoor cafe's as well as great stores who specialize in colorful ceramic goods of top quality.

The Ramblas is also the world's most pick-pocketed area!

Barcelona has free Wi-Fi in the city - they are currently working on completely covering the city, but it's not there yet. Around the Ramblas, the reception is generally good.

The most common business for shops and businesses hours are Monday through Saturday, from 9.30 oh to 13.30 oh, and from 16.30 to 20.00 h.

Big shopping centers and department stores open from 10.00 h to 21.00 or 22.00 h uninterruptedly. These big stores open in December sometimes on Sunday.

In coastal cities, in high season, shops are usually open passed 22.00 h.

Pharmacies open from 9.30 to 13.30 h, and from 16.30 to 20.00 h. In all major cities you can find pharmacies that open 24 hours. Pharmacies follow a rolling late-hour schedule, which is published in the newspapers, and is posted at all pharmacies.

Museums are in general closed on Mondays.

Planning A Barcelona Vacation From The Sea

A Barcelona vacation is synonymous with culture, natural beauty, history and warm hospitality. As the capital of Spain's Catalonia region, this ancient seaside city is one of the most coveted vacation destinations in the world during spring, summer, fall and even winter, and it's one of the top 10 most-visited cities in Europe. Once you arrive, it's easy to see why — Barcelona's abundance of leafy parks with stately monuments and fountains, romantic Gothic Quarter with its winding cobblestone streets, crave-worthy food and bar scene and gorgeous architecture check all the boxes for an unforgettable European vacation.

Barcelona's Enduring Connection With The Sea

Located along the cerulean blue waters of the Mediterranean , with long stretches of golden, sun-kissed beaches and multiple bustling harbors, Barcelona is well situated to receive guests from the sea. Traveling to Barcelona by ship gives you a taste of history. The Barcelona port of call has been an important site for over 2,000 years and has an ancient seafaring legacy that traces back to the time of ancient Romans — perhaps even earlier. It remained an active port through the Middle Ages, facilitating trade for centuries. By visiting Barcelona via ship, you're taking part in a millennia-old tradition — watching the coastline expand into view on the horizon, with the laughter of gulls and the salty spray of the ocean welcoming you to the city. Barcelona's historic maritime hub is called Port Vell, which means "Old Port." Today, its tranquil waters are dotted with small pleasure boats and sleek yachts. It's also home to the city's hundred-year-old customs' office building, as well as an 18th-century clock tower called the Torre del Rellotge and plenty of great stores at the Maremagnum shopping complex.

Cruising Offers Convenience

If your Barcelona vacation brings you to the city by cruise ship, you won't be sailing into Port Vell. Instead, you'll arrive in the city's much larger cruise port located a few miles away. It's located at the foot of the Barcelona's most iconic boulevard, La Rambla (sometimes referred to as Las Ramblas), which runs right through the center of Barcelona and offers easy access to the city's many attractions.

To give you an idea of how big the Barcelona port is, it's home to nine terminals — seven of which serve as cruise terminals. Because of its size as a cruise port — as well as its prime location in the Mediterranean — Barcelona serves as a starting point or stop on many cruises through the region. Getting into the city from the cruise port is also easy. There's a shuttle bus service that connects the port terminals to La Rambla — just look for blue buses that say "Cruise Bus" on the front-facing display panel of each bus.

Once you're out of the port, it's an easy walk to some of Barcelona's top must-visit areas and sights. The Gothic Quarter is just a 10-minute walk from Portal de la Pau, where the Cruise Buses drop off. Güell Palace, the mansion designed by famed architect Antoni Gaudí, is even closer. And if you're craving some delicious tapas after your seafaring voyage, you can stroll on over to Mercado de La Boqueria, a lively food market just 10 minutes from Portal de la Pau. Truly, arriving to Barcelona by sea places you closer to the action than arriving by plane, as Barcelona's international airport is located nearly nine miles from this vibrant part of the city. Arriving by train to Barcelona Sants station will put you in a good spot to kick off your vacation, but you'll still be about two miles away from the popular El Raval and Gothic Quarter neighborhoods.

How To Spend A Day In The Barcelona Port

If you're looking at Spain cruises  that feature Barcelona as a stop rather than a starting or ending point, you'll have less time to explore the city's many marvels. That said, because cruising puts you so close to some of the top attractions in Barcelona, you can easily fill a few hours with wonder. If you're pressed for time, stick to the sights closest to the port. We already mentioned Güell Palace, but it's worth repeating — aside from the Sagrada Família cathedral and Parc Güell, this mansion is one of the dreamiest examples of Gaudí's work and makes for a beautiful backdrop to photos. It offers tours in English, Spanish, French and Catalan included in your admission ticket.

Also close to the port is the Catedral de Barcelona — an impressive cathedral that dates back to 1298. With its graceful buttresses and soaring spires, it's one of the most awe-inspiring buildings in the city, and it's less than a mile from Portal de la Pau. Admission into the cathedral costs just nine euros, and you can add access to the Diocesan Museum for six euros extra. Guided visits are also available.

Another great option close to port is the Gran Teatre del Liceu, a stunning theater built in the mid-1800s in a former monastery. Guided tours of the spectacular space are available. What's more, just up La Rambla is Mercado de la Boqueria, a fantastic food hall. You'll find all kinds of delicious food at this bustling market, from savory jamón ibérico and briny grilled sardines to crispy pan con tomate and more. Is the Barcelona Cruise Port Popular?

Barcelona is a top tourism destination in Europe, so it is no surprise that travelers aim to visit. The city provides a quite walkable and welcoming environment. Over 800 cruises and 2.5 million cruise passengers visit Barcelona each year. The port has become quite popular with travelers. It has distinct areas that establish it as a major port. To better handle cruise crowds, Barcelona has moved cruise ships to its less central pier.

The Moll d’Adossat pier (officially, Port de Barcelona) is now the primary cruise port. This change means travelers now have a short commute to the city center. The change may seem like an inconvenience to travelers, but it also helps to avoid excessive tourism, pollution and crowds. There are seven cruise terminals within the main cruise port of Barcelona. Each terminal (A, B , C, D and E) offers its own amenities, but in general the port is quite modern and popular.

The Barcelona cruise port has plenty of terminals, which holds space for up to seven cruise ships a day. Its high yield for cruise ships and local offerings make it a popular port. There is an array of cruise lines that visit Barcelona’s cruise port. This means that travelers have a huge assortment of cruise lines to choose from for their perfect getaway. These cruise lines include Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Virgin Voyages, Disney, MSC, Seabourn, Oceania, Viking Ocean, Costa, Norwegian, Regent Seven Seas, Azamara, Cunard, Windstar, Silverseas, Holland America, Explora Journeys, Sea Cloud, Ponant and Lindblad cruises.

Things To Do in Barcelona

Barcelona is filled with grand architectural gems, so many tourists enjoy simply walking around. The Gothic Quarter (or Barri Gotic) is an area that is known as the heart of the old city. Because the area dates back to a time before automobiles, the area has been urban planned for walking. This means that travelers will have no problem getting around on foot. Many of the popular tourist’s sites in the city can be reached on foot, once travelers get to the area.

But there is plenty more for travelers to do during their short exploration of Barcelona. Some of the most popular local attractions include the Barcelona Aquarium, Maritime Museum, the Barcelona Cathedral, Casa Batlló and Park Güell. Another popular attraction is La Rambla. La Rambla is the famous Barcelona street that can help travelers get to know the local culture and provide a place to leisurely walk. The street is a nice pedestrian area filled with restaurants, vendors, bars and great photo opportunities.

Transportation

Getting to the central areas of Barcelona is not difficult for travelers since it is an easily accessible tourist destination. Cruisers should actually have an easy time getting around. There is a cruise shuttle bus (called the Blue Bus) that is dedicated for cruise passengers, which stops off around La Rambla. This bus goes between the Barcelona cruise port terminals to town and runs on a daily schedule.

Travelers should be able to catch the bus around every 15 minutes. The Barcelona cruise port can also be reached by taxi. This option is best for travelers who venture out of central areas and need transportation back to the port. The transportation system at the Barcelona port is quite efficient. So, travelers should not have problems catching a ride since buses and taxis are managed to meet the needs of visiting cruise ships.

Port Capri Island cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Capri Island, Italy. Capri Island is situated in the Mediterranean's Tyrrhenian Sea (off Sorrentine Peninsula, Gulf of Naples' southern part) in Italy's Campania region (Naples Province). The resort town Capri is the island's principal port and main/largest settlement, with population around 12,200 and land area approx 10 km2 (4 mi2).

Regularly daily scheduled ferries connect Capri with Naples , Sorrento , Amalfi , Salerno , Positano , Castellammare di Stabia , as well as with Ischia Island . Ferry services are provided by the companies SNAV (Societa Navigazione Alta Velocita/subsidiary of MSC Group ), NLG (Navigazione Libera del Golfo/owned by the families Aponte and Savarese), Caremar (Campania Regionale Marittima/part of Tirrenia), Alilauro (jet catamarans), Positano Jet Srl, Alicost (hydrofoils).

Depending on vessel type, ferry travel times vary - 20-25 minutes (to Sorrento), 30-40 min (to Positano), 50 min (to to Ischia), 45-80 min (to Naples), 50-60 min (to Amalfi), 1 hour (to Castellammare di Stabia), 100 min (to Salerno). Ferryboats dock Marina Grande, from where Capri Town is accessed via a funicular/cable railway. From Anacapri, a chair lift takes tourists to Monte Solaro, the island's highest elevation point (589 m /1932 ft).

Some of the most important features of the island include Marina Piccola (little harbor), Belvedere of Tragara (panoramic promenade), the limestone crags named sea stacks which project above the sea (Faraglioni), town of Anacapri, Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto), and the ruins of Imperial Roman villas.

The island has 2 harbors - Marina Grande (main port) and Marina Piccola (serving yachts and boats). The commune Anacapri is to the west of Capri Town, positioned high on the hills.

The first stop on our Grand Tour is...

Vibrant, colorful and packed with history, Turkey’s largest city is a fascinating place to explore. Geographically, it spans both Europe and Asia, and this cross-continental setting is reflected everywhere you look, from the buildings to the food served up in the city’s many outstanding restaurants.

Speaking of buildings, perhaps the most striking in the city is the stunning Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque, built during the time of the Byzantine Empire and now one of Istanbul’s unmissable attractions for the historical insights it affords. After stepping back in time at Hagia Sophia, fast-forward to the present day at the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, designed by acclaimed architect Renzo Piano and listed as a seriously hot ticket for culture vultures by critics.

Elsewhere, there are opulent bazaars to wander, intricately decorated shops and stalls to browse, boat tours along the Bosphorus to board, and sticky, sublime baklava to delight in, accompanied by endless cups of rich Turkish coffee to fuel your sightseeing.

Next stop is...

While other starry Italian cities have been stealing the limelight for many years, Trieste is now finally being recognised as a wonderfully relaxed and stylish treasure. As you disembark, you’ll immediately be in the right spot, as so much of Trieste life is based around its attractive waterfront. The city’s vast stretch of coastline offers everything from buzzy continental café culture to fabulous views out across the Gulf of Trieste’s deep-blue expanse.

That the city is full of historical literary connections should tell you something about its appeal before you even arrive. James Joyce spent time here and his presence is still felt around Trieste via statues and plaques, as well as the Joyce and Svevo museums, housed in the same building and honoring both the Irish novelist and his friend and fellow author, Italo Svevo.

Once you’ve had your literary fill, enjoy the fresh air and sea views of the handsome Piazza Unità d’Italia, Europe’s largest sea-facing public square. It’s a focal point for locals and tourists alike, and the perfect place to sit and linger over a morning coffee or evening spritz.

On we sail to...

Rome (via the port of Civitavecchia)

The world-famous Italian capital is not a cruise port in itself, but is reachable via various transport modes from the port of Civitavecchia.

What is there to say about Rome that hasn’t been said before? It hardly matters, since the Italian capital is a place that rewards – perhaps even demands – repeat visits, offering more of everything on each return. Showstopping art and similarly astonishing architecture are found at every turn: this is the city of the Colosseum, the Pantheon, Vatican City, the Trevi Fountain, St Peter’s Basilica… These world-famous sights, and many more, are all essential viewing, not least for the window they provide into ancient Rome – but dig deeper and you’ll find the city’s modern-day charms just as appealing.

Tucked away in plain sight near central Rome is Monti, an arty and fashionable neighborhood strewn with hip cafés, quirky vintage stores and classy cocktail bars. It’s a gem of a place to stroll through but often missed, making uncovering it even more of an occasion. And for all Rome’s awe-inspiring buildings, it’s worth journeying outside the center to enjoy the open spaces, particularly Villa Doria Pamphilj. In this sprawling public park, you’ll find a pine forest, huge washes of green land and more splendid architecture, including baroque-style Casino del Bel Respiro, complete with secret garden.

And so we come to our final port of call...

Barcelona, Spain

Few places represent the Mediterranean ideal better than Barcelona. The Catalan capital’s bright streets, bustling local bars, cutting-edge art galleries and beach life combine to produce a dynamic city that’s impossible not to fall in love with. Culturally, there’s a dizzying amount to fit in. Antoni Gaudí’s intoxicating modernist architecture defines a part of Barcelona’s aesthetic, crowned by his unfinished and magnificent masterpiece, La Sagrada Família, and there are museums dedicated to fellow artistic visionaries Picasso and Joan Miró, plus all manner of contemporary art spaces.

Dining is serious business in Barcelona, and the city’s restaurants offer everything from Catalan specialities (try escalivada – roasted, smoky peppers and aubergine in olive oil) to almost any global cuisine you can name. End with a digestif at a vermuteria to drink vermouth with the locals. Just leave time for a trip to one of the beaches etched along Barcelona’s three-mile coastline – the perfect escape from the bustle of Barcelona, with the added bonus of being mere minutes away from your ship when it’s time to return.
