Disney On Ice Presents ‘Road Trip Adventures’ Review

Go on a magical Road Trip Adventure with the crew from Mickey Mouse and meet other favorite characters on your way during Disney On Ice Road Trip Adventures Tour . Featuring almost 2-hours of your favorite Disney characters on ice, this adventure packed show is perfect for families of all ages.

We are big Disney fans in our household. From bing-watching Disney+, to visiting Disney World , we haven’t found a Disney-branded thing that we didn’t love.  This past weekend, Disney On Ice brought their ‘Road Trip Adventures’ tour to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and we were so lucky to be there – sitting almost in the front row !

The ‘Road Trip Adventures’ tour has been touring all around the USA and features stars from  Mary Poppins Returns, Moana, Frozen, The Lion King, Incredibles 2, Aladdin, Toy Story 4,  your favorite Disney Princesses, and Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy!

Disney On Ice Presents 'Road Trip Adventures' Review 7

Though this was my family’s first time seeing a Disney On Ice show, it definitely won’t be our last! The show featured almost 2-hours of my children’s favorite characters flawlessly dancing and singing to beloved Disney songs on ice!

Disney On Ice ‘Road Trip Adventures’ in Pittsburgh Review

What's in This Post

When we got to the show at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh , my first thought was,  are my boys too old for this ? Since most of the crowd seemed to be much younger than my two boys, I begin to fear Disney On Ice ‘Road Trip Adventures’ wouldn’t be fun for them.

Once we got to our seats, my worries soon changed over to excitement. Just feet from where we were sitting, the show was getting ready to start. There was ice across the arena floor. Large televisions flashed,  Disney On Ice  and all three of my children’s eyes were glowing with that same innocent joy and excitement that they did the first time we met Mickey and Minnie Mouse at Disney World.

Why Your Family Will Love a Trip to Disney World

When the show started, I knew we had made the right choice in going to see Disney On Ice. When Mickey and the gang got out on that iced arena floor, it felt magical. From that first moment, the show just got better and better.

Every time a new character would come out on the ice, they would dance so flawlessly and beautifully that I found myself in awe of the way they moved across the ice. The amount of energy the performers had absolutely made the show mesmerizing to watch.

The best part was, the show was so high energy that it was almost impossible for kids to get bored watching it. Each set of Disney characters would go out on the ice for 5-10 minutes each and they moved and danced so much, that there was always something new and exciting happening to keep kids entertained. In fact, I don’t think there was one time, the whole night, that my kids even mentioned they were bored.

While ‘Road Trip Adventures’  did have a lot of our favorite Disney characters, I did feel there were some that were left-out like Lightening McQueen and Daisy Duck. But, having said that, the show did incorporate a lot of everyone’s favorite characters like; Anna and Elsa, Toy Story, and the Incredibles.

We loved the Disney On Ice ‘Road Trip Adventures’ tour so much, that if you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you check it out! Trust me it isn’t just fun for the kids!

Disney on Ice Review: Road Trip Adventures

' data-src=

Are you planning to attend a Disney on Ice performance?

There are multiple shows to choose from and they rotate through different performance destinations.

This is our Disney on Ice review of Road Trip Adventures, but the logistics (timing, snacks, souvenirs, etc.) will be similar to their other shows.

So you know a bit more about who this Disney on Ice review is coming from, I actually have a background in theater and am completely obsessed with live theater and Disney. I’m not so great at ice skating, but I love to ice skate and watch figure skating. My family and I have Magic Keys and go to Disneyland as often as we can. My husband and I love to take our girls to live theatrical shows and sporting events, but this was our first time seeing Disney on Ice.

Let’s go over everything I asked myself before buying tickets, including: how long is Disney on Ice, our tips for bringing young kids (babies and toddlers), important venue details, and how to get tickets for Disney on Ice near you.

Spoiler alert- it is totally worth the experience!

Disney on Ice Review

Let’s start out our review of Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventures with what you’ll actually get with the show. Then we’ll dive into what to wear, and other venue details.

Overall the performance was stunning, with amazing ice skating skills I was not even expecting. As a fan of live theater, I appreciated the dancing and acting within each scene.

Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventures Scenes

  • Anna & Elsa
  • Toy Story 4
  • Marry Poppins Returns
  • Incredibles
  • Mickey & friends

Disney on Ice Review: Part 1

Disney on Ice begins with the hosts getting the audience up and dancing. They introduce the show and continue to narrate the storyline between scenes.

The first musical number is from Mary Poppins Returns. Then Mickey and friends drive their “road trip” car on the ice.

The Incredibles need to swoop in to save the runaway vehicle, and after that, we transition into a road trip destination featuring Moana.

The songs “How Far I’ll Go” and “You’re Welcome” get you into the spirit of adventure before Anna and Elsa take the stage.

Olaf sings “Summer” and then Elsa does an amazing routine to “Let it Go.”

My absolute favorite Disney song comes on next: the Lion King’s “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King.” The mood slows down with a beautiful rendition of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” with Sima and Nala.

Right before intermission, you’re left spellbound with such a creative display of the animal kingdom for “The Circle of Life”

disney road trip adventures

Disney on Ice Intermission

Intermission was about 15 minutes long.

There was no huge announcement of the show starting again, the narrators just jumped right into continuing the storyline.

It’s best to get your snacks and souvenirs before Disney on Ice begins.

The bathroom line got long very quickly. I suggest finding the closest bathroom before the show starts, then quickly walking to it as soon as intermission begins.

Stay standing at your seats to get in a good stretch, then settle back in for an amazing second act.

Disney on Ice Review: Part 2

Between each scene, Mickey and Friends take their Road Trip to the next destination so we can keep discovering our favorite stories and characters.

The second act of Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventures starts off with Toy Story 4. Woody, Buzz, and Jessie led us in a game of ring toss and meteor toss. Then there’s a fun bit where we need to help the characters find Forky.

Other than the road trip skits connecting the scenes, the Toy Story part is the most interactive.

disney road trip adventures

Now that you’re fully engaged, we switch to the impactful “Silenced” song Jasmine sings in the live-action remake of Aladdin.

Then the tempo picks up as the amazing Genie makes an appearance. He starts out as a projection of the Will Smith version of Genie from the live-action movie before taking to the ice as a skating character.

We all danced and sang along to “You Ain’t Never Had a Friend Like Me” and “Prince Ali.”

The most impressive feat of the whole show was the ice skating version of “A Whole New World.” Honestly, if you take anything away from my Disney on Ice Review, it’s to see the show for this particular scene. Jasmine actually takes to the air which must be super difficult to do on ice skates, but she makes it look effortless.

disney road trip adventures

As the show winds down, most of the Princesses come out for an appearance, dancing to “Girl Power.” It’s super fun, but I wish the princesses were on the ice all together for a little bit longer. I always love seeing the Disney Princesses whether it’s in the Disneyland parade or in Disney on Ice.

For the grand finale, everyone comes back out to dance to “Get Your Ears On.” It’s fun, upbeat, and makes me want to learn the choreography!

What to Wear to Disney on Ice

Make sure to wear layers for Disney on Ice.

If you’ve ever been to a hockey game, you know it can be chilly from the ice rink.

Since an ice rink was only temporarily placed in Pechanga, it really wasn’t too cold.

The adults wore either a long-sleeved base layer or a sweater with jeans. Our girls were comfortable with long-sleeved shirts and leggings under their princess dresses.

Many little kids were dressed up in princess dresses or character outfits. It was like a little slice of Disneyland outside of the parks.

Disney on Ice Venue Details & What to Bring

There are different requirements at each venue, so check the website of the arena near you for Disney on Ice details.

Overall, plan to pay for parking and a security check before entering.

San Diego Pechanga Arena

Pechanga Arena in San Diego has quite a bit of extra policies. We’ve been to quite a few events at this venue, and we still brush up on the current rules before attending.

Parking in early 2023 was $25 per car. Exact cash is very helpful, although they were able to run a credit card if needed.

Inside the Pechanga Arena, you can only use credit cards, no cash, for your purchases.

Pechanga Arena is a clear bag-only venue.

This means that you need to have a clear bag that fits the size requirements (12” x 6”).

No purse, no backpack. No purse inside a clear bag.

The only exceptions would be a small wallet or wallet-sized clutch (6.5” x 4.5”) and diaper bags.

If you don’t have a clear bag, you can just use a clear Ziploc bag or invest in a stadium-approved bag .

No outside food or drinks are allowed unless it is one unopened plastic water bottle per person.

What to Bring to Disney on Ice

Check venue requirements, but you will likely not be allowed to bring your own snacks.

Narrow everything down to just the necessities: a sweater, your wallet, car keys, and your cell phone.

If you have a baby or a toddler, just bring the basics for bottles, baby food, and diapers.

Noise-cancellation headphones are a good idea for babies or noise-sensitive children.

Disney on Ice: Snacks Review

The Disney on Ice snacks were themed for the occasion.

Mickey Mouse popcorn buckets, souvenir cups with snow cones, and cotton candy. My favorite was the souvenir Mickey cup with a yummy snack mix in it.

Beverages also came in souvenir cup options.

Typical stadium food was available in the normal Pechanga Arena snack stands such as hot dogs, nachos, and warm pretzels.

We went to the matinee show, so we just bought snacks and then went out to lunch afterward.

disney road trip adventures

Disney on Ice: Souvenir Review

There were not any of your typical knick-knack souvenirs like magnets, pens, and keychains. In fact, it was mostly bigger ticket items altogether.

You could choose from toys of the characters, stuffed animals, t-shirts, and other similar Disney on Ice merchandise.

We ended up buying the girls Disney on Ice T-shirts and a reusable bag. The bag was perfect to help hold everything (snacks & sweaters).

If you have a limited shopping budget, skip the souvenir stand and go straight for a souvenir snack instead. They had better options for reusable items that had the Disney on Ice logo.

How to Find a Disney on Ice Location Near You

You can easily search the Disney on Ice website by location or show to find out what is showing when and where.

They usually have about 4 months’ worth of shows and destinations scheduled at a time.

Disney on Ice Shows

There are currently 5 different Disney on Ice shows on tour around the United States.

  • Road Trip Adventures
  • Let’s Celebrate
  • Find Your Hero
  • Into the Magic
  • Frozen & Encanto

Road Trip Adventures just came through San Diego in January 2023.

Let’s Celebrate will be coming to multiple southern California locations, including San Diego, in April 2023.

Where to Buy Disney on Ice Tickets

Based on 2023 pricing, Disney on Ice tickets range in cost from $15 to $120 depending on the venue and where you sit.

You can access the tickets through Dinsey on Ice’s homepage and it will just relocate you to the ticket-selling site (AXS.com) once you click “buy tickets.”

At Pechanga Arena, there really aren’t any bad seats. The venue is not huge, so even the upper rows will not be as much of a “birds-eye-view” as most sporting centers.

According to 2023 pricing, the outer sections are between $15-$20 per ticket with the next section down being around $20-$35 and then $40 the next section down. The ground-level VIP seats are between $70-$110.

Disney on Ice: Road Trip Adventures in SLC

Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventures has arrived in Salt Lake City and we were thrilled to be invited* to see it on opening night! We gathered some of our favorite kiddos and embarked an a brand new adventure, bedecked in our favorite Disney apparel.

disney road trip adventures

If you have not been to Disney On Ice before, you are in for a treat. Not only does it feature some of your favorite beloved Disney characters and music, but it showcases some serious talent. We absolutely loved getting to spend an evening as a family enjoying fun and exciting storylines from favorite movies like Mary Poppins, Aladdin, Moana, Frozen, Toy Story and The Lion King .

One might be worried that a Disney On Ice production might be a little girl-centric with only princesses to watch, but this is not the case at all. They did an excellent job of entertaining every patron there with stories that would interest both boys and girls, alike. Everyone was excited to be there and having a wonderful time!

I love the way the show was presented as traveling all around the world to discover and greet favorite characters and have amazing adventures along the way.

disney road trip adventures

It was evident everyone in attendance was thoroughly enjoying their time and everyone was enthralled with the skating, aerials and acrobatics displayed on the floor. Ask everyone around you what their favorite part was and you will receive a different answer. There is really something for everyone! We highly recommend taking some time to spend with your family being entertained by this incredible production. Disney On Ice Road Trip Adventures is at the Vivint Arena now until March 5th, so if you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, do it now while they are still available. There are several showtimes to choose from and your family will thank you!

Helloooo, lovely!

It’s been a while since I’ve written to you. But, get ready, because this a very special review of “Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures” that I know you will enjoy if you and your family are huge Disney fans, or even if you just enjoy a great show.

Review of Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures

E. L. Lane and Leia at Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures

“Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures” starts off with two people in full Disney garb hyping up the crowd. They get dads to dance, then moms, and finally everyone! So they get the show started on a high note with everyone’s blood pumping.

Louie dancing at Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures

Then, Mary Poppins flies in on her umbrella and starts to “Trip a Little Light Fantastic” with her chimney sweep friends.

Bicycles on the ice at Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures

Next, it’s time for the Mice of the Hour! Mickey and Minnie come zooming out from backstage, and the crowd goes wild!

Mickey and Minnie invite us to go on a roadtrip with them and their friends – Goofy and Donald!

Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy at Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures

Honestly, I don’t know why they let Goofy drive and Donald navigate. Goofy, of course, drove all goofy, and Donald lost his temper because Goofy didn’t follow his directions. But it certainly was a fun ride.

On the road, we get to experience pivotal animated Disney and Pixar movie moments.

The Incredibles heat things up.

Moana sets sail…

Moana of Montunui at Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures

and meets everyone’s favorite demigod – Maui.

Maui waving at you at Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures

Oh, hi, Maui!

Then, we see what summer’s like in Olaf’s imagination.

And “Let It Go” with Elsa and her “snowflakes”.

Those aerial performers holding the hoops looked like beautiful snowflakes spinning through the air.

We go to the jungle and “Feel the Love Tonight” with Simba and friends.

Simba holds Nala in the air at Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures

Our next stop is with Woody and friends. We help them play some carnival games to find Forky and guess what? Nah, I don’t have to tell ya.

Forky at Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures

There he is!

Next, we visit Aladdin. He meets Genie in the cave of wonders and we “Make Way for Prince Ali.”

[Let me pause our adventure for a moment just to say that the “Prince Ali” performance is visually stunning, and probably the most beautiful part of the show. And this is coming from someone who absolutely adores Moana and Elsa.

You have to see this part of the show to believe it, and even as you’re watching it, you won’t believe your eyes – it is that good!

But, you’ll definitely have to see it for yourself, because my camera was on the fritz and I couldn’t get any photos.

Now, back to the show…]

We go on “a magic carpet ride” with Jasmine and Aladdin.

There’s a Disney Princess “Girl Power” pit stop where most of the Disney princesses come out and dance together.

And finally, the road trip ends with most of the characters we met on the trip dancing and waving goodbye.

Overall Review

Even if you’ve been to other “Disney On Ice” shows, this one was unique in that they made every effort to engage the audience. They had different audience members ride in the car on the ice with the characters, they threw balls into the audience, they kept turning on the jumbotron and showing you the crowd, and they posted photos of audience members on the large screens. They’ve also updated the line up to include newer movies, like the live-action version of Aladdin, and Toy Story 4.

With Disney characters we love, bike riders on ice, aerial acrobatics, a high level of audience participation, and an excellent story line, “Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures” is sure to wow you!

Save $5 on select seats to “Disney On Ice presents Road Trip Adventures” when you use the code MOM19 online at www.DisneyOnIce.com .

Thanks for joining my family, Mickey, Minnie, and the gang on this delightful road trip!

  • Pen and paper (you just never know)

If you’re planning on eating out on the way to Disney , then you may not need everything listed here.

But if you are on a budget, carrying your food can help.

Maelstrom Collapsible Soft Sided Cooler for Road Trips in the Car

  • EXTRA LARGE CAPACITY – Extra-large size yet weighs only 1.8 lbs. The Maelstrom Icy Hollow Soft sided cooler will hold up to 60 cans of your favorite drinks plus 2-4 ice-packs. Or, with 45 cans you can add 15 lbs. of ice for long lasting coldness. Whether it’s camping, hiking, picnicking, or a BBQ party, this cooler bag easily packs a lot of food, fruits, beer, meat, or even seafood together. It’s large enough to carry all.
  • STAYS COLD LONGER – Thoughtful 5 layer insulation design. Exterior surfaces are made of rip-stop 600D Oxford materials plus one layer of waterproof PVC. Interior layers are thicker, reinforced food-grade PEVA materials with seamless ultrasonic welding for 100% leakproof and tear-resistance. A built-in EPE foam middle layer and 210D liner add additional insulation, allowing the Maelstrom Icy Hollow Soft Sided Cooler Bag to keep food or drinks cold for up to 12 hours.
  • DURABLE – Maelstrom Ice Hollow Soft Sided Cooler Bags have double-stitched carry options. All pick-up points, the shoulder straps and carry handles are reinforced. This cooler bag can handle more weight than you’d prefer to carry. Capacity: 15.75*10.24*14.17 inches, 10.5 Gallons of ice and drinks.
  • DOUBLE-DECKER UNIQUE DESIGN – Great design that can be stored easily. Besides the extra large main bag, Maelstrom designed a foil insulated top compartment to store sandwiches, frozen food, fruits, food essentials or utensils. Because of the reinforced layers, this cooler bag can be folded flat and stowed easily in your trunk or under a car seat. Convenient to carry around!
  • VERSATILE – Suitable for all outdoor activities as an all-around soft sided cooler for camping or road trips. It’s the perfect size for food delivery services and a great solution to transport groceries from the store or farmer’s market to your kitchen at home.

Note: I haven’t included a stove here because I am assuming that you can find outdoor barbecues at some rest stops and not carry extra weight.

  • Protein bars
  • Pre-cut vegetables and pre-cooked meat
  • Seasonings of your choice
  • Bread or Wraps (easiest carb to carry)
  • Big bottle (1 or 2-liter capacity, at least)
  • Aluminum foil (if you decide to barbecue)

5 Easy Tips to Know When Packing for Your Road Trip to Disney World

  • Get free parking: If you’re a regular at Walt Disney World, you might consider getting an Annual Pass or a Premier Pass . Free parking is just one of the perks you will get.
  • Get more out of the journey: People keep saying that the journey is more important than the destination. And you can make that metaphor literal! When you are planning out your route, just look for some spots on the way that you might like to visit.
  • Plan and fix beforehand: Speaking of planning, please plan everything out (and I mean everything ). No one likes surprises on the road. Especially not from their car. SO get that fixed too,
  • Remind yourself of your purpose: After seven hours of driving and realizing that you are nowhere close to reaching Walt Disney World , your motivation (and good mood) start fading. Put up a huge Disney something somewhere you can see so *cue inspirational voice* it reminds you of your purpose in hard times like this.
  • Make reservations or slum it: If you’re thinking of driving to Disney, so are a hundred others. The hotels are going to be booked up completely in the peak season. So, unless you want to camp in the wilderness (for which you also need to make reservations), book well before.

Disney on Ice Road Trip Adventures

Disney on Ice is back in Southern California with the theme Road Trip Adventures. We watched the show last night during the opening night at Crypto.com Arena and here are the highlights and what to expect from this production.

disney road trip adventures

Road Trip Adventures Characters

Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy hits the road in this production of Disney on Ice, and you get to see different show segments which included Mary Poppins, Moana & Maui, Lion King, Aladdin and Jasmine, the Frozen cast, the Toy Story cast including Forky, and the rest of the Disney princesses.

Highlights of Road Trip Adventures

Compared to other Disney on Ice productions, Road Trip Adventures mixes acrobatic performances with ice skating prowess. I almost want to meet the cast at the end of the show to say, bravo! The performances were really hard, especially for Elsa and Jasmine who went up on air twirling, probably 4 stories high.

disney road trip adventures

The costume design of the whole Aladdin cast was beautiful while Elsa transformed from wearing her cape to being the icy Elsa that she is.

Road Trip Adventures featured video projection as the backdrop and you will be surprised (without giving out spoiler) when the whole Matonui tribe shows up out of nowhere.

This production of Disney on Ice is also more gender-neutral. The segments were not mostly about Disney Princesses so you have Toy Story, The Incredibles, and The Lion King having their own lengthy segments when usually it would be more about the Disney princesses.

Disney on Ice Show Length

Disney on Ice is 1 hour and 30 minutes long with a 15-minute intermission. The first part of the show was 1 hour long then we went on intermission then another 30 minutes of the show followed.

Disney on Ice Souvenirs

Before the show, during intermission, or after the show, you can check out the Disney on Ice souvenirs. From stuffed toys, bubble wands, light-up wands, and even Maui’s magical fish hook are all available for purchase.

disney road trip adventures

Disney on Ice Treats

While watching the show, enjoy treats like shaved ice or Dippin Dots ice cream in a special Disney cup or tumbler, or get the Mickey Mouse popcorn bucket or some cotton candy.

Disney on Ice is for the Whole Family

Young or old, boy or girl, everyone can enjoy Disney on Ice! We watch Disney on Ice every year and I was worried if my girls will feel they’re too old or have seen it all already but it’s a completely different show each time. Our eldest (middle schooler) said during the show, “We will watch it every year even if I’m already in college, as a Christmas tradition”, since Disney on Ice comes to Southern California every December.

Our youngest wanted to watch it really badly because both of them are now in ice skating class and she wants to see how hard their ice skating moves are at Disney on Ice. Well, they were really hard but this time, after seeing all the acrobatic parts of the show, she said, she wants to do those as well.

The Disney on Ice crowd is a mix of families with young kids, multi-generational families filling up a whole row, couples on a date, and Disney fans.
