I hope she reads this. SO lemme spill the tea. It was freaking amazing. I was so close I could see ever pore on her, and lemme tell you there isn’t many. She’s so amazing and I felt the show ran pretty smoothly except for the fact that it was very hot and everyone around you was sweating their ass off. But she was great. Best night of my life seeing the love of my life. She was so good and it was so beautiful if she ever were to return I would be there in a heart beat. Though the initial show was cancelled I wasn’t one bit mad after attending this one and it was really nice that my old tickets still were valid. Thanks dua, love you lots. -your biggest fan:)

It was the most lit concert i had ever attended. Dua was so full of life & super hyped for the whole concert. Im still upset that yesterday had come to an end way too soon. The most memorable memory i had was the moment she teared uo in her speech for 'New Love' as that song was way too genuine and its from the most vulnerable side of hers. The next memorable moment was the participation in 'IDGAF'the crowd was so wild, and Dua also had a moment with us when she remixed the sentence 'I dont give a F' like amazing man this is the most mesmerising concert i had ever attended. I love you Dua. (heartsheartshearts)

Oh, wow. Dua Lipa was absolutely fantastic! She is extraordinarily talented and really knows how to work a crowd. The band was brilliant — and I can say it was definitely loud enough!

I was very lucky to see her at a venue such as the Apollo. Such a small venue for somebody doing an arena tour! We got the tickets very early on, before she became massive, and I’m very glad we did.

The whole way home I was smiling. The last song — New Rules — set the place on fire, that last chorus was insanely good, and all complete with confetti canons!

Thank you for the time, Dua Lipa! Money well-spent; it was worth every second!

This concert will stay in my mind for as long as I live, thank you!

Dua Lipa Variety Facetime Interview

Although Dua Lipa had the misfortune of dropping a party album just as the pandemic was starting, “Future Nostalgia” became one of the biggest albums of the past 18 months — and she’s finally announced North American arena tour in support of the album, for next year.

The tour makes 28 stops across the U.S., including her first-ever headline show at Madison Square Garden in New York City and the Forum in Los Angeles. The tour will feature support from Caroline Polachek and Lolo Zouaï, with Megan Thee Stallion joining on a handful of dates — full list of tour stops and lineups below. Tickets and VIP upgrade packages go on sale beginning Friday, September 17 at 12PM local time here .

“I’m so thrilled to tour again and see my angels in person! How amazing that we all get to dance and celebrate together once again,” says Dua. “When I was writing ‘ Future Nostalgia ,’ I imagined the songs being played in clubs on nights out with your mates. I’m so excited that this fantasy is finally coming true. I can’t wait to experience these songs with you together live!”

The tour is produced by Ceremony London, promoted by Live Nation and sponsored by Truly Hard Seltzer. European dates were announced earlier this year.

Dua Lipa on Tour

One listen to Dua Lipa's rich voice sitting atop all of that bright pop and body-moving beatwork and you already know: this English singer and songwriter is brimming with earned confidence. She's dominated stages everywhere from the esteemed Glastonbury Festival to Singapore's Formula One Grand Prix. Lipa's early days found her holding her own — typically strutting in front of a band and dancers — opening for stadium-worthy acts like Bruno Mars and Coldplay. But she also thrills enrapt audiences headlining her own arena runs, such as her 2020 Future Nostalgia Tour celebrating her disco-kissed but thoroughly modern album of the same name. Lipa's catalog comes to vivid life onstage as she performs a thrilling mix of A-list collaborations with her era's biggest DJs — Diplo, Mark Ronson, Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix — and original songs that combine highly emotive verses, super catchy hooks and a modern yet timeless production that may set trends for years to come.

Dua Lipa in Concert

Dua Lipa was born in England to a father who was a lead singer in a Kosovar rock band and a mother who worked in tourism. Fittingly enough, while the family moved around a bit, music and performance were constants — she took classes at the Sylvia Young Theatre School as a child, and turned to YouTube as an outlet when the Lipas relocated to Kosovo, sharing covers of her favorite songs by P!nk, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera and even Chance the Rapper. At 15, she felt destiny calling and got a flat with a friend in London, returning to Sylvia Young while (soon) picking up modeling and hostessing gigs in an effort to fund her growing studio habit and network with people in music. Lipa's faith paid dividends when she inked a deal with Warner Records in 2015 — the label was in need of a major female pop star and her demos showed that promise. Over the next couple of years and several singles, Lipa set records on UK and Euro charts until she crossed the pond with "New Rules," a deliciously clever and empowering song about hooking up. Her 2017 self-titled debut included that radio-conquering dance banger alongside romantically powered pop, hip-hop inflected grooves and one lovely ballad ("Homesick") featuring an uncredited appearance by Coldplay's Chris Martin. A series of one-off collaborations paved the way for her disco and "dancercise"-inspired sophomore 2020 album, Future Nostalgia, led by another international chart-topper, "Don't Start Now."

Canceled meet and greet.

Dua lip is so close to my heart through her music lyrics, birthday, and performances! This show was everything I went all out and had a glass / mirror cut outfit with led lights to meet and greet her that was hand made over seas… and she canceled :( but the show was great! I can’t wait for next… because my outfit has been waiting for her and her only!

Love Dua Lipa and love her music. Makes me happy everytime we listen to it

Spectacular and consummate pro.

I have not seen Dua live, only seeing her in her video's and listening to her on airwaves and seeing her in interviews. She carry's herself as such a professional and likeable pop star at her young age of 28. I'm proud to admit I'm a 73 y/o male that became a fan in 2018. I'm surprised to say that as I'm a rock fan from back in the 1960's 70's. But she shows so much real energy and effort into her performances that it's understandable why she is so successful. I hope she does tour the US soon as she is one of the few artists I would like to see today.

The best concert of my life

I just love it ♥️🇺🇸🪩. I went to Long Island UBS arena. I love her, the energy, the moon lights and everything omgggggg

Absolutely amazing

I had the incredible opportunity to attend Dua Lipa's concert at the Prudential Center in NJ with a GA ticket, and it undoubtedly ranks as one of the best concerts I've ever experienced. The show was a sensory delight, with mesmerizing visuals and exceptional dancers that added a whole new dimension to the performance. Dua Lipa's voice and dance moves were nothing short of spectacular, and seeing her in person, she was even more stunning and captivating.

PLS GO ON TOUR PLS PLS I WANT TO GO TO THIS CONCERT BEFORE I DIE!!!

Great siger, great show. It's the best concert I've ever been to.

Saw her future nostalgia tour and I was in the pit. Such a phenomenal performer, everything from vocals to choreo to production was just on point. The energy was magnetic and she does not disappoint at all! Can’t wait for her next era to go see her again.

The best concert of my life!

Thank you Dua 💕 Love you so much! Can’t wait to see you again.

I LOVE MY QUEEN

QUEEENNN!! I have seen Dua twice now and she is absolutely amazing! Go see this gurrrlll ! 🌈

About Megan Thee Stallion

Hailing from Houston, Megan Thee Stallion is a three time GRAMMY winner, philanthropist and ever-evolving cultural icon.  From the release of her critically acclaimed and Gold certified debut album, Good News, to earning two global record breaking Billboard Hot 100 #1 hits with the “Savage Remix” featuring Beyoncé, and “WAP” with Cardi B, Megan has proven unstoppable.  Megan has been recognized for her musical achievements with three GRAMMY wins, including Best New Artist and nine BET Awards.

Megan was also honored as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020. In October 2020, following a powerful and politically charged performance on Saturday Night Live that demanded justice for Breonna Taylor, Megan published her monumental “Why I Speak Up For Black Women” op-ed and accompanying visual with The New York Times.

About Caroline Polachek

Two years since taking the music world by storm with  Pang  — her lush and dazzling head-trip of an album — Caroline Polachek has returned with the infectious single “Bunny Is A Rider.” Polachek says of the song: “’Bunny Is A Rider’ is a summer jam about being unavailable. Bunny is slippery, impossible to get ahold of. Maybe it’s a fantasy, maybe it’s a bad attitude. But anyone can be bunny, at least for three minutes and seventeen seconds.”

Her previous album  Pang  topped year-end lists globally — including Dazed, The Guardian, NPR, to name a few. The record’s lush romanticism and acrobatic vocal stylings firmly established her as one of the most singular and captivating singer-songwriters of a generation.

About Lolo Zouaï

Born in Paris to a French mother and Algerian father, singer, songwriter, and producer Lolo Zouaï (zoo-EYE) moved to the Sunset District of San Francisco as a young child when her parents won the Visa lottery. After high school, Lolo spent some time alone back in Paris before relocating to New York City with her mother. It was there that Zouaï wrote her 2018 breakout single, “High Highs to Low Lows,” which propelled her into a series of independent singles, videos, and headline shows around the world, ultimately leading to the release of her highly anticipated debut album in April 2019. Since the release of her album,  High Highs to Low Lows , Lolo has sold out headlines across 14 different countries, amassed over 200 million streams worldwide, and appeared in global campaigns for COACH, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas, Nike, and more. She is thrilled to be supporting Dua Lipa on her upcoming arena tour in 2022.

On 2 December 2019, Lipa formally announced the Future Nostalgia tour, with 24 shows across the UK and Europe from April to June of the following year. Tickets went on sale four days later. Several tiers of VIP tickets were also offered, including ones that included meet and greets with the singer and one where fans could battle Lipa in a game of Dance Dance Revolution . The album's title track was released in conjunction with the tour announcement. On 13 January 2020, Lipa announced British DJ Buck Betty and American singer Lolo Zouaï as supporting acts for the tour. On 21 February 2020, the singer announced two new UK shows in Liverpool and Nottingham, with tickets for those dates going on sale a week later. On 23 March 2020, Lipa announced that she had been forced to postpone the tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic; she also revealed that she was planning tour dates for the rest of the world. Rescheduled tour dates for January and February 2021 were announced the following day with Betty and Zouaï still scheduled as supporting acts. Shows in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo were cancelled due to the inability to be rescheduled and the Vienna and Munich shows were still attempting to be rescheduled at that time, but not formally cancelled. Tickets for the original shows remained valid and tickets for the cancelled shows were refunded.

The tour was postponed for a second time to September and October 2021 on 23 October 2020 with it being unconfirmed if Betty and Zouaï would still support her. Following this, Lipa announced a livestream concert titled Studio 2054 , which was developed after she was unable to tour for her album. After the concert on 27 November 2020, ticket sales for the tour increased by 70 percent. On 28 June 2021, the tour was rescheduled for a third time to April, May and June of 2022. With this postponement, several new shows across Europe were announced along with the rescheduled Vienna and Munich shows; tickets went on sale that week. Lipa announced North American shows for February, March and April 2022 on 13 September 2021, with Megan Thee Stallion, Caroline Polachek and Zouaï as supporting acts. Tickets went on sale four days later, with several VIP upgrade packages available. A second show in Los Angeles was announced on 17 September due to popular demand with tickets for that show going on sale a week later. The November 2022 Oceania leg of the tour was announced on 19 September 2021, with tickets going on sale four days later; a pre-sale occurred in the 24 hours prior. Extra dates in Auckland, Sydney and Melbourne were announced on 25 September 2021 after several shows sold out very fast; tickets for those shows went on sale three days later. On 22 November 2021, Lipa announced four new European dates in Lithuania and Scandinavia; tickets for these shows will go on sale four days later. Also with this announcement, Angèle , Griff and Tove Lo were announced as the new opening acts. Two Canadian shows originally scheduled for the first North American leg in February 2022 were postponed to late July 2022 due to newly announced restrictions in January. The same week two additional North American shows were announced in Milwaukee and Elmont set to take place instead of the two postponed shows in February 2022. The tour will be produced by Ceremony London, promoted by Live Nation and sponsored by Truly Hard Seltzer. [1]

Concert Synopsis [ ]

The concert’s intro begins with the stage backdrop cutting to static before revealing the words "In Stereocolor: Future Nostalgia" with Miami Vice -styled graphics. A 1980s aerobics-themed video montage, similar to that in the “Let’s Get Physical Work Out” video, introduced the ten dancers (including two roller skaters) and Dua Lipa as an extended intro to “Physical,” containing elements of the song’s Leo Zero Remix, played.  The dancers made their way to an exercise bar located on an elevated platform toward the rear of the stage as Dua was raised on a stage lift directly in front of them. During this act, Dua wears a custom neon yellow catsuit with matching opera gloves by Balenciaga.  She typically wears her Eera Chiara earrings in green, pink, and blue for the duration of the show.  “Physical” was performed with full choreography and contained a dance break after the bridge where Dua and her dancers performed a cardio-aerobic dance routine.  The song concluded on the main stage at the base of the runway.  Dua and her female dancers then perform “New Rules” with choreography that features transparent iridescent umbrellas.  The majority of the song is performed at the end of the runway on the B-Stage.  The song features a dance break after the bridge in which Dua performs with an umbrella before throwing off stage to a stagehand in the crowd.  Dua returns to the elevated platform on the main stage where she poses with two male dancers as in the intro to “Love Again” plays. The song is performed with Western-influenced line dance choreography on the main stage.  The song ends with Dua on the B-Stage posing similarly to how she did at the beginning of the song.  An extended intro to “Cool” begins to play as Dua makes her way up the runway to a microphone stand in the center of the main stage.  “Cool” is performed at the microphone stand while two male roller skaters perform around Dua as a spinning disco ball graphic plays on the screen behind her.  An extended intro to “Pretty Please” that features elements of “Cool” immediately beings to play. Dua and her dancers perform the song with choreography on the main stage.  A free-hanging sculpture composed of individual circular lights is then lowered over the main stage.  The sculpture changes colors and is suspended over the main stage for the remainder of the first act.  Dua performs “Break My Heart” with choreography on the mainstage and runway. Her dancers join her holding small heart-shaped disco balls.  The song features a dance break before the bridge in which Dua dances with her male dancers.  The song features elements of “D.A.N.C.E.” by Justice.  Dua briefly talks to the crowd to introduce her next song.  “Be The One” is performed on the main stage with choreography.  The song’s bridge I extended to allow Dua to interact with the crowd.  Dua introduces her four backup singers before running off stage for a quick change.  The backup singers perform the song’s last chorus before the stage goes black.

A neon sign reading “Yours Truly: Fresh Seafood and Cocktails” appears on the screen behind the main stage as a muted, elevator music-inspired version of “IDGAF” begins to play.  The two roller skaters return carrying trays with cocktail glasses and cans of Truly hard seltzer to interact with the crowd.  As they exit the stage, a graphic novel-inspired short film entitled “Lobster Attack” begins to play.  In the video, Dua escapes from a giant lobster while a quiet instrumental version of “We’re Good” Plays in the background.  An inflatable lobster stage prop then appears on the elevated platform on the main stage.  Dua performs “We’re Good” while sitting on the edge of a lowered stage lift in the center of the main stage.  This performance is an homage to the “We’re Good” music video.  During this act, Dua wears a custom Swarovski crystal-embellished asymmetric bodysuit by Atelier Versace and matching booties.  Dua then performs “Good In Bed” while interacting with the crowd along the sides of the runway and the dancers perform choreography on the main stage. The intro to the song contains elements of the Zach Witness & Gen Hoshino Remix.  Dua then performs “Fever” alongside her dancers from inside the lowered stage lift on the main stage, which has now been filled with fog to give the illusion of a hot tub/spa.  During Angele’s verse, her prerecorded vocals play while a video of her singing plays on the screen at the rear of the stage and Dua performs choreography.  The song ends with Dua, by herself, inside the lowered stage lift.  As she emerges from the lift, she is now wearing a floor-length white skirt.  She makes her way to the elevated platform on the main stage where she performs “Boys Will Be Boys.”  After the bridge, the Dua is quickly lowered from the stage as the “Club Future Nostalgia” mix, beginning with the “Boys Will Be Boys (Zach Witness Remix)”, starts to play.  The mix also features elements of “Hallucinate (Mr. Fingers Deep Stripped Mix)” and “Levitating (The Blessed Madonna Remix),” as well as Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl.” The dancers perform on the main stage and B-Stage while Dua changes clothes.

A metal-grate floating platform with lights is lowered and suspended above the B-Stage.  Dua emerges on the B-Stage wearing a red lace bra by Savage X Fenty, red tights by Marine Serre, monogrammed black hot pants by Marine Serre, black nylon jacket by Puma, and the Mayze Flutur sneakers from her collaboration with Puma.  The “Club Future Nostalgia” mix transitions into a “One Kiss” and “Electricity” medley, during which Dua and her dancers perform updated choreography on the B-Stage.  During “Electricity,” a mock power outage occurs before the last chorus. Dua and her dancer make their way to the main stage where they perform “Hallucinate” with choreography using transparent chairs. The song concludes with an extended outro featuring elements of “Technologic” by Daft Punk where Dua and her dancers strut down the runway to the B-Stage.  Dua and her dancers then sit on the steps connecting the main stage and runway where Dua performs a shortened version of “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix).”  A Video of Elton John can be seen on the screen while his prerecorded vocals play.  Dua leaves the stage for a quick change while her background singers finish the song.

A space-themed eclipse interlude plays as inflatable iridescent spheres and stars are lowered above the crowd.  The floating platform is lowered onto the B-Stage.  Dua emerges from under the stage wearing a custom black rhinestone corset catsuit by Mugler.  She enters the floating platform as “Levitating” begins.  She is lifted above the crowd on either of the runway during the first and second verses and choruses of the song.  A musical break featuring hidden vocals from the song is added before the bridge while Dua is escorted from the floating platform by two male dancers. The song concludes on the main stage with choreography during the bridge and final chorus. Dua thanks the audience and leaves the stage.  Several moments of darkness and silence occur before a voice can be heard saying “From a distant star, a powerful force will come to Earth, we call this force Future Nostalgia.” Dua is then raised onto the platform on the main stage by a hydraulic lift where she performs some light choreography to the extended intro of “Future Nostalgia.” As the song begins, Dua grabs her microphone stand from the base of the runway and makes her way to the B-Stage where she performs the remainder of the song.  Dua returns to the main stage where she shouts out her band, singers, and dancers. Dua meets her female dancers on the raised platform on the main stage where she performs her viral dance move as “Don’t Start Now (Live in LA Remix)” begins. The song is performed with full choreography with a dance break before the bridge. Dua and the dancers make their way to the B-Stage for the final chorus and confetti cannons are shot off into the crowd. Elements of ABBA’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” are played during the songs outro as Dua is lowered from the main stage’s raised platform for the final time.

Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia tour confirms she's Britain's best pop star

  • Published 16 April 2022

Dua Lipa

"This is the best welcome home ever," says Dua Lipa, a couple of songs into the first UK show of her world tour.

"We've been waiting so long, so long to put this show on. We've moved it and postponed it and finally we're here."

Moments earlier, the 26-year-old had walked down the the catwalk of her vast stage, slowly raising her hands to the air as she soaked up the adulation of 21,000 fans who'd waited two years to see her at Manchester's AO Arena.

This wasn't just a pop concert - it was a reunion.

Dua Lipa on stage

For context, we need to rewind a little. The Future Nostalgia tour was first announced in December 2019, as reports of a new, potentially-deadly virus started to emerge from China.

By the time Dua's second album (also titled Future Nostalgia) arrived the following March, the world was in lockdown and the tour was on ice.

The singer fretted about releasing an album of upbeat dance-pop while people were suffering.

"I'm not sure if I'm even doing the right thing," she told fans in a tearful Instagram live , "but I think the thing we need the most at the moment is music, and we need joy and we need to be trying to see the light."

Her instincts were right.

Instead of reminding us what we'd lost, the album cast forward to a time when we'd be pressed against each other again, singing these songs in sweat-soaked unison. Or, to use Dua's own words, she'd had a "premonition that we fell into a rhythm where the music don't stop for life" - and Future Nostalgia became the most-streamed album of 2020.

Even so, Covid restrictions played havoc with her tour. It was postponed and rescheduled three times, forcing Dua to find ways to keep her music alive - a remix album, a spectacular live-stream and a constant trickle of new songs, including the chart-topping Elton John duet Cold Heart.

All the while, anticipation for the concerts grew, and the roar that greeted the star on Friday night was a curious mixture of excitement and relief.

Dua Lipa on stage

Dua opened the show by playing Hot Streak's 1980s breakdance classic Body Work (" music makes you lose control "), signalling her intention to celebrate the abandon of the dancefloor.

She emerged on stage in an electric pink Balenciaga corset bodice to the bubbling synth groove of Physical, throwing shapes at a ballet barre, before romping down the catwalk and dipping into some 80s-inspired aerobics moves.

The energy levels barely dipped for the next 40 minutes, as the star blasted through her biggest songs - New Rules, Break My Heart, Love Again, Be The One - flanked by 12 inexhaustible dancers.

The staging was pleasantly restrained for a pop show, forcing the focus onto Dua's impressive vocals and allowing the band to extend her songs for maximum dancefloor impact.

Break My Heart was mashed up with Justice's Dance, while Hallucinate was embellished with elements of Daft Punk's Technologic. Even the female-empowerment ballad Boys Will Be Boys segued into a clattering carnival remix, incorporating a sample of Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl.

It's a trick Dua borrowed from Madonna - placing her music directly into the pop canon - paying tribute at the same time as asserting her dominance. In lesser hands, it would be an exercise in hubris but the platinum-plated hits of Future Nostalgia withstood the comparisons.

Dua Lipa at the Brit Awards

The choreography was just as clever, drawing on decades of dance history. New Rules gained a Gene Kelly-inspired umbrella routine, while Cool saw Dua orbited by two roller-disco skaters.

Choreographer Charm La'Donna, who worked on this year's Super Bowl half-time show, riffed on Bob Fosse's chair routines during Hallucinate, and brought New York Warehouse vibes to the dance hit Electricity. At one point, she even threw in a bit of the hokey-cokey.

But the masterstroke came towards the end, when Dua recreated the famously awkward, hip-wiggling move that launched a "Dua can't dance" meme in 2019. ("I love her lack of energy," commented one observer . "Go girl, give us nothing").

This time, she gave it more oomph, proving not just that she's refined her stagecraft, but that she's capable of laughing at herself.

Dua Lipa on tour

The show could have done with a bit more of that humour. The only other glimpse of the star's quirky side was a giant inflatable lobster that appeared during We're Good (a throwback to the music video that would take too long to explain here).

But the Future Nostalgia tour isn't built for jokes. It's about marking the moment Dua Lipa came into her own as a pop star.

Since 2019, she has transformed into a commanding, confident performer, who can casually throw away a gigantic hit like New Rules two songs into her set, safe in the knowledge she has a dozen other tracks the audience know just as well.

For Friday's finale, she appeared in a Thierry Mugler catsuit, stitched with 120,000 crystals that turned her into a human glitterball, as she floated above the audience singing Levitating. Back on the ground, she whipped her hair furiously to Future Nostalgia's title track, before taking a victory lap around the disco-funk of Don't Start Now.

Not for the first time, the fans drowned her out... almost as if they'd spent the lockdown learning the words and were finally getting the chance to live out their fantasy. Up on stage, Dua was experiencing the same thing.

She did a full 180, baby. And look at where she ended up.

Toronto 2022- Dua lipa Nostalgia Tour

Absolutely fun to have seen her perform. The voice, the costumes and dance was all perfect.

I seen her in Toronto on her Future Nostalgia Tour and it was spectacular!! It was one of my favorite concerts I've been to!

Best show ever

It was one of my best experiences. She performed perfectly.

Spectacular!!!

I’ve seen the future of pop and her name is Dua Lipa. Fantastic, gorgeous, talented and so full of energy. I’ll be a fan forever.

She was an incredible concert. Her choreography was amazing, great vocals, lots of costumes and a great setlist. I highly recommend seeing her live for the incredible experience.

outstanding

The amazing dancing and visuals we’re what did it for me. Dua’s singing is impeccable. Overall great vibes and a very fun show.

DUA WAS AMAZING!

Dua Lipa knows how to put on a show! I was having the time of my life! You can tell she really puts a ton of effort into her performance ! She played many of her hits as well as some other favourites of mine that kept the crowd hype the whole time! I also loved the intro where she gave all of her dancers their moments of recognition and time to shine. I would definitely recommend going to one of her shows next time she is in town :)

The concert itself was great. The firecrackers going off inside the arena was a bit nerve racking. Hoping secuirty is beefed up a bit going forward

Felt like a “press play” perfomance. No interaction with the crowed. Much left to be desired…disappointing…I really love her songs, her views, podcast… but was not impressed with the concert 😞

About Dua Lipa

3x GRAMMY and 7x BRIT Award-winning global pop powerhouse Dua Lipa has announced her highly anticipated third album, Radical Optimism, will be released May 3rd. The album features the recently released “Training Season” and the euphoric club-ready track “Houdini,” which has become Dua’s longest running solo No. 1 on the UK Airplay charts and drew in over 12 million YouTube views within 24 hours of release.

“Houdini” garnered immediate praise across the board from the likes of Billboard and Rolling Stone, who lauded the track as “a neo-psychedelic dance-floor rager," to Pitchfork and Vogue, who called it “a pop masterclass.” “Houdini” followed Dua’s hit song "Dance The Night" from the box office sensation Barbie, which landed on the Oscars shortlist and earned nominations at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and the GRAMMYs.

Dua's certified platinum sophomore album Future Nostalgia solidified her position as both a critical success and top radio performer. The GRAMMY-nominated record was the longest running top 10 album by a female artist on the Billboard 200 in 2021 and spawned multiple worldwide hit singles, with “Levitating” earning certified diamond status and the title of Billboard’s No. 1 Hot 100 Song of 2021.

Dua has found superstar status on stage and off, thanks to her many passions outside of music. 2022 saw Dua launch Service95, a global style, culture and society editorial platform that now comprises a weekly newsletter, the Service95 book club and the Dua Lipa: At Your Service podcast, which has been lauded by The Sunday Times and The Guardian, and was named one of the Best Podcasts of 2022 by Spotify.

Having graced every major fashion magazine worldwide from Vogue and Elle to W and Dazed, Dua added "designer" to her resume in 2023 when she co-designed Versace's "La Vacanza" collection alongside Donatella Versace herself, which Vogue deemed "the hottest collaboration of the summer."

Dua’s eponymous 2017 debut album is certified platinum, spawned six platinum tracks, and made her the first female artist in BRIT Awards history to pick up five nominations in a single year. Dua has a total of 10 GRAMMY nominations, with three wins for Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording.

Across platforms globally, she has amassed over 40 billion streams and holds the record for having the top two most streamed albums by a female artist of all time on Spotify.

Dua Lipa: ‘If It’s Not Fun, I Don’t Want It’

For the queen of the dance floor and everyone’s big sister, life is only worth living if you’re having a good time.

dua lipa

The first time Dua Lipa went clubbing, she was just a wisp of a tween girl in Kosovo. The UK-born pop star realizes how absurd it sounds as she explains it. Seated in her home office in London, flanked by shelves teeming with books, she thumbs through her phone for a blurry image of a photo from that fateful night—as if to prove to the two of us that it did indeed happen. At the center of the photo is a young Lipa dressed in white crochet, smiling brightly next to her much taller cousin and an entourage of stylish women.

Clubbing is a Lipa family tradition; it’s also why she wasn’t fazed when, while out one night on New York City’s Lower East Side with Charli XCX, she ran into her parents partying at The Box. “We celebrate everything and anything, and we just love a party,” she explains. “When I go to my aunt’s house, it all starts off pretty tame....Then the music comes on, and we’re all dancing in the house. And that’s a Tuesday!”

Now 28, Lipa has since made a name for herself as Britain’s leading lady of disco. On the dance floor, she plays an almighty oracle, a savvy young agony aunt for lovelorn club kids, desperate for the sobering real talk she’s dispensed in hits like “New Rules” and “Don’t Start Now.”

dua lipa

But long before she penned feminist electro-pop smashes that now stream by the billions, her family knew her as just Dua, their precocious eldest daughter who left Kosovo as a teen to fulfill her pop star dreams by herself in London. That’s when she fully harnessed what she calls her “big sister energy” in her life and music; one can hear it now in the unshakable authority with which she sings her songs.

“She is such a big sister,” says songwriter Caroline Ailin, who first recognized Lipa’s insightful nature when they met almost a decade ago. “You process your feelings [with her], but you also walk away feeling empowered.”

In the time she spent shaping her new album, Lipa decided she would first take her own advice and start calling all the shots: in her career, in her love life, and in her image. In 2022, she ended her longtime partnership with management and publishing company TaP Music, whose roster includes outsider divas like Lana Del Rey and Caroline Polachek. Lipa subsequently hired her father as her manager and bought back the rights and masters for her entire catalog.

In February, Lipa inaugurated her liberated new era at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Gracing the red carpet in a custom Courrèges chain mail gown, her dyed red tresses cascading past her shoulders, she channeled a dauntless warrior queen. That night, she debuted the single “Training Season,” a new song from Radical Optimism . A jaunty disco track with theatrical flourishes of acoustic guitars, synthesizers, and live drums, it shows Lipa ramping up her bravado. “Don’t wanna have to teach you how to love me right,” she sings, issuing a notice to any less-than-suitable suitors looking to waste her time: She’s in the big leagues now. “I had gone into the studio and just said the line, ‘Training season’s over!’” Lipa recalls.

Written in November 2022, “Training Season” is a reflection on a string of dates and long-term relationships, mostly set up by her friends. Lipa’s previous relationships include Bella and Gigi’s brother Anwar Hadid, and French director Romain Gavras; more recently, she was spotted vacationing in Mexico with British actor Callum Turner . “As long as everyone knows where they stand, then you’re good,” she says with a shrug.

She speaks only obliquely of her love life these days, preferring to drop hints in song. “I was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to write down what I want,’” she says of “Training Season.” “The power of manifestation and writing things into existence with the power of words. When you know your worth, you know what you want and what you don’t want.”

“I was talking about this with one of my dancers today, because she was going through a breakup—when I was single, I didn’t wish it away. You learn so much about yourself, you know, whether it’s going on a date or spending that time alone. In the silence, you figure out who you really are,” she says. “In the grand scheme of things, I was doing research.”

dua lipa

R adical Optimism was formulated with a crack team of co-songwriters and producers: Ailin, her trusted writer; Tobias Jesso Jr., hitmaker for Adele and Harry Styles; and Danny L Harle, PC Music alumnus and self-described “rave consultant.” As a massive fan of the Australian psych act Tame Impala, Lipa also tapped bandleader Kevin Parkerto join her crew in London. “We called it The Band,” Parker says. “Not an old-school band, but a spiritual band. Each morning going into the studio, I felt like I was in the Beatles!”

Inspired in part by the freedom-seeking spirit underpinning UK club culture, R adical Optimism dovetails neatly with the recent resurgence of two nu-disco queens who rocked the clubs in the Y2K era: Kylie Minogue, who came back hard last year with “Padam Padam”; and of course Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose “Murder on the Dancefloor” needle drop in Saltburn landed her on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time ever. In Radical Optimism , Lipa brings together live and electronic instruments to fashion her own global groove. The result is a cosmopolitan dance-pop record with a 1970s flair, and a vibrant, resounding affirmation of life.

“Dua had this focus on finding this sound, which was so elusive,” Parker adds. “But it was nice to be in the engine room of the creative process, rather than worry about being the face of it. It was the experience that I’ve been waiting for.”

“Houdini,” the first single off the album, was born shortly after Parker teased out a bass line that he’d recorded for himself, weeks before their studio sessions. Lipa was quick to put her own stamp on it, introducing a moody post-disco melody. “She started singing, and it just immediately made sense,” Parker says. “This feeling of early-’80s sleaze, in some strange, dark, sweaty club. Gloriously suffocating. Hypnotic.”

Ailin has worked with Lipa since before they penned, along with Emily Warren and Ian Kirkpatrick, her 2017 breakout hit, “New Rules”—a dance-worthy laundry list of what-not-to-dos when an ex comes orbiting back around post-breakup. Venting about real life, Ailin explains, became essential to their creative process: “We have a little yap about what’s going on, and from that it turns into a pop song.” Lipa’s moments of unmanicured catharsis, Ailin says, are what yield her most penetrating lyrics; using the firm contralto of her voice, she imparts a pop wisdom that’s as incisive as it is compassionate.

dua lipa

“That’s her superpower,” Ailin says. “It’s hard not to feel like you’re the strongest person next to her. I think she lends a little bit of that to all of us sometimes.”

If being Vacanza Queen ‘is what I’m getting, then I’ll take it. Whether I’m performing or going out, if it’s not fun, I don’t want it.’”

Born in London in 1995, Lipa is the eldest of three children in a Kosovar-Albanian family. Her parents sought refuge in the UK in 1992, before Dua was born, because of political instability in Kosovo at the time. Prior to their emigration, Dua’s father, Dukagjin, sang and played guitar in a rock band called Oda, and her mother, Anesa, studied law. The Lipas settled in the Camden area of London, and Dua was raised to speak Albanian at home and English at school.

Dua’s family returned to Kosovo in 2006, while it was still under the supervision of the United Nations. The country declared independence from neighboring Serbia in 2008, making it the youngest country in Europe. As she grew into her teens, Dua began to meditate on the horrific stories of ethnic cleansing and war crimes committed against Kosovar Albanians. It prompted a critical perspective shift for her, one that informs her values to this very day—whether that means being a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, or calling for a humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza.

“I heard stories from friends [in Kosovo] who lost family members. Houses burned. I saw them. When you have that direct communication with people who have been through [war], it opens up a completely new world, and it did for me,” she says. “I feel very close to [those suffering] injustices in the world, or inequality. Whether that be war, or coming out to your family, everyone’s got a different experience…It’s about support and learning together.”

dua lipa

Lipa was only 15 when she returned to London alone to pursue a music career. She moved into a flat in Camden with an Albanian family friend who was attending university. After watching her younger siblings grow up themselves, it was a move that’s almost unfathomable to her now. “I said to my parents: ‘I don’t know how you let me do that,’” she admits. “But I knew that I didn’t have the same opportunities that I would have in Kosovo. I was so determined. I think my parents saw parts of themselves in me, and that allowed for them to be so open-hearted and generous with that trust.”

By 17, she completed her GCSEs, or secondary school certification, and worked as a restaurant hostess to make ends meet. Working in nightclubs as a teen inevitably steeled her for the misogyny and exploitation baked into a male-dominated music industry. If she sounds well beyond her years in her songs, it’s because she earned it. “When I started [songwriting], I worked at La Bodega Negra, a Mexican restaurant that looked like a sex shop,” she recalls. “I’d finish work, then go out to whatever nightclub was happening until, like, three in the morning. Then I would wake up and go to the studio until I had my shift again at, like, 8 P.M. The music I [made] was reflective of my every day, or every night.”

After ascending the charts again with 2018’s “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris, Lipa claimed the title of Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammys. She chased her success the following year with the release of her Grammy-winning sophomore album, Future Nostalgia , which leaked early on in the COVID-19 quarantine in late March of 2020. Despite the pandemic nearly extinguishing the club scene, Future Nostalgia became the singer’s first number one album in the UK, and rendered her one of the most-listened-to female artists on Spotify. (More recently, she became the first female artist to have four songs each with over 2 billion streams on the platform.)

Upon wrapping her Future Nostalgia world tour in December 2022, Lipa finally had time to exhale, for what felt like the first time in her adult life. She embarked on getaways from the Mediterranean to India this past year, and relished dining experiences with her family and friends in tow. After she posted her vacation photos on Instagram, the internet began dubbing her the “Vacanza Queen” poking fun at her for presumably going off gallivanting for months at a time.

dua lipa

At first, the criticism felt dismissive of the years she spent without her family, toiling her way into pop superstardom. Yet perhaps it’s not just the glamorous photos from exotic locales, but also her efficiency as an artist that have concealed her hard work, making it seem magically effortless—the curse of being extremely capable all her life.

Lipa’s routine is still so regimented that it made an impression on Parker when they worked together in London.“Dua is, like, the most punctual person,” he says. “For most pop stars, it’s impossible to get to places on time. But Dua...she’s, like, apologizing profusely if she’s five minutes late!”

preview for Dua Lipa is Radically Optimistic About Being Ghosted | ELLE

Through her media company, Service95, a weekly email newsletter-turned-podcast-turned book club, she has interviewed the Afghan American novelist Khaled Hosseini and the rock’n’ roll poet Patti Smith. She’s also co-executive producing Camden , a new documentary in conjunction with Disney+ that showcases the history of her home borough in London and the many influential artists who grew up there, from Madness to Amy Winehouse.

“I’ve been busy for almost 10 years” she says. “Every single day, I’ve had some bit of work to do. But people are going to say something anyway. People say a lot of mean things about a lot of people.” And if being Vacanza Queen “is what I'm getting, then I’ll take it. Whether I’m performing or going out, if it’s not fun, I don’t want it,” she says. “You have to make room for joy. The world can be burning down, but goddamn…if you didn’t spend any of your life trying to be happy, I don't know what you’ve done.”

A week later, the song soars to No. 1 on the April 27-dated list, as Lipa makes history at Nos. 1, 2 and 3.

Trending on billboard.

A new No. 1 song and matching the top mark among women would be enough reason to celebrate for Lipa, but that isn’t the end of her milestone week on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. Her own “Houdini,” which reigned for 16 of the last 22 weeks, follows at No. 2, while “Training Season” sits snug at No. 3, making her the first woman to claim the top three in a single week. Among all acts, she scores just the third such triple, following The Chainsmokers, with “Something Just Like This ” (with Coldplay ), “Paris,” and “Closer” (featuring Halsey ; on the March 18, 2017-dated chart) and Drake , with “Falling Back,” “Texts Go Green” and “Massive” (July 2, 2022).

If Lipa’s trio of tracks can hold in the top three next week, she’ll become the first artist to achieve this feat twice.

Plus, rocketing 41 positions in just one week, “Illusion” achieves the biggest leap to No. 1 in the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart’s 11-year history, nearly doubling the 22-1 jump for Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain on Me” in 2020. Further, “Illusion” ties Calvin Harris’ “Slide,” featuring Frank Ocean and Migos , for the chart’s biggest one-week surge overall (48-7; March 18, 2017).

“Illusion,” “Houdini” and “Training Season” are all slated to appear on Radical Optimism , Lipa’s forthcoming third studio album, due out May 3.

Dua Lipa Brings a Spring 2024 Runway Trend Into the Real World

By Hannah Jackson

New York NY EXCLUSIVE Dua Lipa with her father Dukagjin Lipa spotted arriving at JFK airport in NYC. She is in town to...

Dua Lipa is by no means afraid of fashion. From her Radical Optimism era marked by bondage-like leather and hardware, to her rave bae vacation fits , the singer has proven time and time again that she’s not afraid to lean on the unrelatable side of her outfits. But with her most recent look, she modeled what is perhaps the most accessible trend from the spring 2024 runways.

Dua and her father, Dukagjin Lipa, touched down at New York’s JFK Airport this morning. At a glance, the “Illusion” singer wore a totally incognito airport fit: a green hoodie and navy-and-maroon sweats, both from the Palace Gap collaboration, and a pair of black Pumas. An expert flyer, she also rocked a black quilted jacket from Y/Project with navy contrast details, which she’s previously worn on travel days. But chief among Dua’s already-relatable airport fit was her purse.

Miu Miu spring 2024

Miu Miu spring 2024

Bottega Veneta spring 2024

Bottega Veneta spring 2024

While not many of us can call an Hermès Birkin our personal item, Dua’s was brimming with plane essentials—from her water bottle to the slate gray claw clip affixed to the handle. Bags runneth over were a popular styling choice on the spring 2024 runways, from Miu Miu to Bottega Veneta .

Although we can only sneak a peak at what’s emerging from the Grammy winning singer’s favorite purse, we can only imagine what she has inside. Our guess? A sheet mask for on-the-move skincare, high-quality headphones to listen to her unreleased tunes, and whatever is next on deck for her Service95 book club. Plus, a plane snack or two (though we have a feeling she isn’t exactly buying $7 Chex Mix from a Hudson News).

So, Dua Lipa, if you’re reading this, we humbly request a bag tour.
