Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour film release in India has been a long time in the making

Back in 2012, when I first heard Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story’ on 9xO for the first time, I was blown away. As a diehard romantic aged 12, the song made me believe that there really was someone out there who would fight the world to be with me, the way Romeo did for Juliet. It wasn’t long before Swift’s music took over my iPod. I’d spend hours and hours screaming her songs out in my room and hoping that life would someday feel as dreamy as her music videos did.

For many of my classmates too, ‘Love Story’ was the first Taylor Swift song they listened to. As young girls on the cusp of adulthood in India , its premise resonated with us all too well : growing up with strict parents, we became accustomed to their disapproval of the slightest interest in amorous relationships. Of course, our parents would object. Of course, my partner and I would convince them anyway. Swift’s Fearless fed into the sweet teenage fantasy that a perfect love conquers all. Starry-eyed as she sang about boys she had fallen for—boys she had kissed and had crushes on, boys who often ended up hurting her—Swift helped me and many other teens in India escape the restrictive world we lived in , where any implication of romance was seen as bad.

This rose-coloured narrative surrounding the singer began to shift in 2017, with the release of reputation. In her sixth studio album , Swift did not want to be perfect anymore: she was fierce, introspective and lustful; she was unapologetically sexy and feminine. Six years later, my younger sister still remembers how she felt when she listened to the album for the first time. “It’s such a powerful female narrative. All your life, you’re asked to tone down your girliness, and then you see someone embrace it, along with all the heartbreak that came their way—and also make money off of it. That’s powerful.”

Sadly, despite thousands of Indian fans begging her to perform in the country , the singer has never visited, and only alluded to India once in the song ‘seven’: “We’ll move to India forever,” she promises her lover. The Indian theatrical release of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour film on November 3 has therefore been a long time in the making as Swifties have tearfully clamoured for the singer-songwriter to acknowledge her legion of fans in India. Ritu Bhoite and Priyanka Shirsath, who founded Swiftie Night India —evenings designed for Taylor Swift fans to come together and celebrate her music as a community—are thrilled about the upcoming release. “This is the closest we have come to experiencing a Taylor Swift concert in India. Many fans here have waited over ten years to see her live.” Started in December 2021, Swiftie Night has now hosted events across multiple cities, with tickets selling out within hours of release—a testament to Swift’s passionate fanbase in India.

What is it about Swift that draws Indians to her in hoards? Maria Jose Kurian, a clinical psychology student, shares, “Her songs are not just fun, they also make people feel seen. She writes about friendships and falling in love, which helps us hope we have that passion for somebody or something .” Bhoite and Shirsath echo this sentiment. “She has always written songs based on real-life experiences and feelings, which makes us feel a lot closer to her.”

As young Indian women finding their place in society, they are also impressed by how Swift refuses to back down. A woman in a male-dominated industry , the singer-songwriter has let any hatred only fuel her career and spoken up repeatedly against the media’s sexist portrayal of her. In a culture that teaches us to distance ourselves from all things feminine in order to be taken seriously, Swift is not ashamed of her femininity and the enormity of her emotions and knows these qualities can coexist with being assertive and strong. Her fanbase plays a huge role in her confidence, and she frequently finds newer, more interesting ways to engage with them on a personal level. Kurian elaborates, “You see her watching TikToks and Tumblr posts, reacting to fan theories, donating to fans in tough times like Covid. I love that she’s so passionate and grateful even after 15 years in the music industry .”

Taylor Swift is why a younger version of me learned to embrace, reinvent and accept herself. As she switched genres from country pop to electronic, rock and hip-hop, I saw myself grow more rebellious, loving and comfortable with my evolving notions of femininity. Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ Movie in India: Date, Tickets, and More

While Swift’s film is set for a global release on October 13, Indian fans will be able to view it in theaters in November

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour movie is set to release in India in November.

The film, which has already surpassed $100 million globally in advance ticket sales, will screen in 8,500 cinemas across 100 countries and will give fans the opportunity to experience “the most meaningful, electric experience of [Swift’s] life so far”.

While Swift’s film is set for a global release on October 13th, Indian fans will be able to view it in theaters from November 3rd.

Earlier this week, PVR shared the official trailer of The Eras Tour movie on Instagram. The film is reportedly 2 hours 45 minutes long.

“It’s been a long time coming, but @TaylorSwift, The Eras Tour Concert Film lights up our big screen, coming this November,” they wrote in the caption.

Swift is currently preparing to close the North American leg of her tour, which includes a setlist of 44 songs.

According to  Pollstar , the first 22 dates of the “Red” singer’s tour brought in more than $300 million in revenue, with the full tour expected to gross over $1.4 billion.

While Swift isn’t scheduled to perform an Eras Tour set in India, she will be stopping in neighboring countries such as Singapore and Japan.

Days after the release of her ‘ Midnights ‘ album, Taylor Swift announced her sixth concert world tour titled ‘ The Eras Tour ‘, describing it as a journey through the musical eras of her career spanning 19 enchanting  years. 

Along with the announcement, Swift also revealed the dates for the first leg of the tour in the States and promised the international dates would be out soon.

The tour commenced on March 18 in Glendale, Arizona, and soon became one of the most iconic tours of all time, witnessing unprecedented demand while elevating the US economy and leaving a manifold cultural impact. In the US alone, it was  estimated that the tour would surpass the billion mark .

As the US Swifties dressed in ensembles and relished the night in sold-out stadiums, Taylor Swift fans worldwide drew solace in the viral concert videos and manifested for Swift to tour in their country.

For us, the Indian Swifties, we hoped and hoped like we’d never hoped before. You see, we knew Swift had never toured in India previously. And call us DELULU, but ‘MOTHER’ spoke to us through one of her songs in  Folklore , ‘ seven ‘. She said she’ll move to India forever, and we were thinking it may be an Easter Egg for debuting in India, because you know, there is no one like T Swift when it comes to dropping cryptic cues.

Our dreams were shattered for the first time when she sang ‘ seven ‘ as one of her surprise songs in Pittsburgh. And then they were completely crushed when she announced the international dates, which had no mention of India.

We had barely begun to make peace with it when Swift made a really clever and wise business move known as ‘ The Eras Tour Movie’  for theatres in North America.

But WAIT, the movie is no more for the US alone, and, as per Swift’s latest announcement, will be screening worldwide. Among the list of over 100 countries revealed on her website on Tuesday, there is — for the love of everything that’s good and pure — INDIA.

However, for India and some other countries, the movie will start screening from November 3. Unsurprisingly, Indian Swifties are over the moon and saturn.

The highly anticipated Taylor Swift: Eras Tour concert film's streaming release date was recently revealed by Taylor Swift. Swift made the decision to surprise her fans by including three more songs in the extended version of the movie, which will be released this month, as their anticipation among those who were unable to see the movie in theaters grew.

Taylor Swift's Eras tour could generate over $2 billion from just ticket sales

As the first tour to break the $1 billion mark in gross ticket sales, Taylor Swift's "Eras" Tour has established a new standard in the music industry. A live-music trade magazine called Pollstar estimates that the tour brought in $1.04 billion just from ticket sales. Between November 17, 2022, and November 15, 2023, 60 gigs and almost 4.35 million tickets were sold, making this historic accomplishment possible.

In addition to selling a lot of tickets, the "Eras" Tour generated a sizable amount of cash from merchandise sales; Pollstar estimates that sales during the same period totaled about $200 million.  Pollstar predicts that ticket sales for the next eligibility box office year may surpass another $1 billion, potentially taking the tour's total to over $2 billion. These are not the only financial forecasts for the tour's success.

Liverpool's Anfield Stadium wasn't just buzzing with the crowd's energy— Taylor Swift herself was feeling the love during her epic 100th Eras Tour show. Swift used this milestone night not only to celebrate with the fans but also to offer a glimpse into her future beyond the final curtain call. The pop star, currently touring worldwide as part of her commercially successful and record-breaking tour, however, dashed the hopes of millions to attend her concert after she announced she would not be extending the Eras Tour into 2025.

"I think a lot of people are like, well, how are you going to celebrate the 100th show?" The Cruel Summer singer activated her chatty mode with the crowd. "And for me, the celebration of the 100th show means this is the very first time I've ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December. Like, that's it," she said, sending the entire stadium into a moment of shock.

Theories circulated that Taylor Swift might extend her tour dates, but the tour's ultimate destinations are set for Vancouver, Canada, from December 6-8. So, no, we won’t be getting any more Swift doses after December’s stop. Describing the last Eras tour destination as, "the most exhausting and all-encompassing," she added it is also going to be, “the most joyful, rewarding, and wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life."

‘Eras Tour has become my entire life’ -Taylor Swift

Adding a little bit of sarcasm and a whole lot of emotions, the Cruel Summer singer continued, stating how the Eras Tour has become her entire life to the extent that she has forgotten she once had hobbies to pursue. The 14-time Grammy winner reflected on the times when she's not on stage, mentioning that all she does while sitting at home is think of clever acoustic song mashups and consider what fans might like to hear.

Swift continued, “I want to spend another show just thinking about that and living in this moment with you and being here with you and just know that I appreciate every single ounce of effort you put in to be with us when this tour reaches triple digits of shows. So thank you.”

The TTPD vocalist kicked off her worldwide hit tour in 2023, beginning in the United States, making it her initial destination. This nearly three-hour performance features more than 40 tracks from her entire discography, with recent updates that add extra songs from her most recent album, Tortured Poets Department, while also omitting some of her older hits. After that, she continued her journey across the globe, touring South America, Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Taylor Swift Confirms Eras Tour Will Officially End in December

December will mark the official end of an era — or, the end of the Eras tour . During Taylor Swift ‘s recent performance in Liverpool, which marked the 100th show of the career-defining run, she confirmed that there won’t be any additional dates extending the show into 2024. The tour is currently scheduled to conclude on Dec. 8 — less than one week before the musician’s 35th birthday — with a final show in Vancouver.

“A lot of you are like, ‘How are you going to celebrate the 100th show?’ And for me, the celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I’ve ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December, like that’s it,” Swift told the audience. “And that feels like so far away from now, but then again, it feels like we just played our first show on this tour, because you have made this so much fun for us.”

“I think that this tour has really become my entire life. Like, it’s taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore,” Swift continued. “Because all I do when I’m not onstage is sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mashups, and think about what you might want to hear. When I’m not on the stage, I’m dreaming about being back on the stage with you guys. And you have done so much to be with us, right? You’ve made plans so far in advance, you planned what you were going to wear, you memorized lyrics, you got yourselves here, you figured out parking, you figured out transportation.”

Earlier in the speech, which Swift delivered before playing “All Too Well (10 Minute Version),” the musician described the tour as: “the most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life.”

Taylor Swift announces end date for the Eras Tour

T aylor Swift recently celebrated a major milestone on her Eras Tour, marking the 100th show with a special announcement. During the first of three nights in Liverpool, England, Swift revealed that the tour, which has felt endless to many fans, now has an official end date.

“You know, this is actually the 100th show of the tour,” Swift shared to a cheering crowd at Anfield Stadium. “That blows my mind. That doesn’t feel like a real statistic to me, because this has definitely been the most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life, this tour, these moments with you."

Amid the excitement, Swift disclosed her plans for the tour’s conclusion. “You know, a lot of you were like, ‘Well, how are you going to celebrate the 100th show?' And for me, the celebration of the 100th show means this is the very first time I’ve ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December. Like, that’s it.”

The Eras Tour, which began on March 17, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, is set to conclude on December 8, 2024, at Vancouver's BC Arena. This final concert will be the 152nd show, barring any additional dates.

Reflecting on the journey, Swift said, “That feels so far away from now, but then again, it feels like we just played our first show on this tour because you have made this so fun for us that we wanted to do 100 shows, 150-something shows that we have on the whole tour. This tour has really become my entire life. It’s taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore because all I do when I’m not onstage is sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mash-ups and think about what you might want to hear. So when I’m not on the stage, I’m dreaming of being back on the stage with you guys.”

Swift concluded her heartfelt speech by expressing gratitude to her fans for their unwavering support. After Liverpool, she heads to Cardiff, Wales, and then to London’s Wembley Stadium for eight concerts.

Taylor Swift, renowned for her influential songwriting and transformative impact on pop culture, has continuously evolved her musical style since her debut. From country roots to pop anthems, she has consistently captivated audiences worldwide with chart-topping hits and groundbreaking albums. For anyone who hoped that the Eras Tour might get an extension into its third calendar year with added dates in 2025, Taylor Swift has disabused them of that notion, affirming that her global trek really will come to a close with its currently scheduled final dates in North America in December of this year.

Swift made the proclamation while performing the 100th date of the tour on the first night of a weekend engagement in Liverpool on Thursday.

“And that feels like so far away from now,” she added. “But then again, it feels like we just played our first show on this tour. Because you have made this so much fun for us that we wanted to do a hundred shows, 150-something shows that we have on the whole tour.

“And I think that  this tour has really become my entire life. Like, it’s taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore. Because all I do when I’m not on stage is like sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mashups and think about what you might want to hear.  So when I’m not on the stage, I’m dreaming about being back on the stage with you guys. And you have done so much to be with us. You’vee made plans so far in advance. You planned what you were gonna wear, you memorized lyrics, you got yourselves here, you figured out parking, you figured out transportation. … And just know that I appreciate every single ounce of effort that you put in to be with us, (as) this tour reaches triple digits of of shows.”

Although Swift’s camp has not released any box office grosses from the tour, industry experts believe the total gross will surpass $2 billion by the time it wraps up in December. The closest runner-up will remain Elton John’s “Farewell Yellow Brick Road,” which grossed $939 million over a five-year span.

Swift’s European tour will wrap up Aug. 20 with the second of two runs in London’s Wembley Stadium. From there, she is scheduled to take time off from the road before returning to U.S. stadiums in November for the first time since late 2023, doing shows in just three U.S. cities — Miami, Indianapolis and New Orleans — before the tour concludes in late November and early December with six shows in Toronto and three in Vancouver. The last date is scheduled in the latter Canadian city for Dec. 8.

A recent video of Taylor Swift dancing during one of the performances has gone viral. The clip, posted by a fan on TikTok, shows Taylor awkwardly dancing. The fan called the musician an 'underrated dancer.' However, the people in the comments said otherwise.

The video was uploaded an account by the name of Angelica Belcamino, who complimented Taylor's skills as a dancer. She shared the video with the caption, "Taylor Swift is SO talented. Rate her talent level on a scale of 1 (being the lowest) to 5 (being the highest) (sic)."
