The last thing you want to worry about while jet setting is juggling your wallet, passport, and boarding pass as you make your way through security checkpoints. Travel wallets offer a sleek and simple way to streamline your belongings and stay organized while on the go, as they’re typically large enough to fit your passport and other essentials including train tickets, boarding passes, cell phones, and credit cards.

We’ve researched dozens of travel wallets from top brands, and tested many of them on our own travel days to provide real-world insights. We considered capacity, ease of use, durability, and overall value in order to narrow down the best options for every type of traveler.

Best Overall

Leatherology zip around travel wallet.

This ultra-functional pick fully zips up so your items stay secure.

If you carry a small purse or bag, this may be too large to fit inside.

Leatherology’s Zip Around Travel Wallet checks all our boxes: it’s crafted from luxuriously soft leather, features a secure zip-around closure to protect your travel documents, and has a roomy interior that can easily hold two passports as well as your boarding pass, foreign currency, and credit cards or hotel keys. We were able to easily store one passport, paper and coin currencies, five cards, and a boarding pass inside, with ample room to add a pen, train tickets, and several more cards.

With so many important documents stored in one place, a secure closure is of paramount importance: we found that the rugged zipper is durable and easy to maneuver, offering much-needed peace of mind.

Other features we love are the exterior pocket, where you can tuck a boarding pass for easy retrieval, plus two large pockets for separating various currencies or multiple passports — making this a great choice for whoever the designated passport-holder may be. While its large size may be difficult to fit in a small purse, it means it can fit international currencies of different sizes — a benefit that we found quickly outweighed the cons. We also love the zippered pocket for coins and the see-through window for an ID.

Best Organization

Smythson marshall travel wallet in panama.

This sleek, stylish wallet is made of durable crossgrain leather with three labeled compartments.

The lightweight, flexible leather will last for the long run — but note that it’s priced accordingly.

Navigating airports and busy train stations can be stressful enough as is — keeping track of your essential documents shouldn’t be another worry on your list. This elegant wallet will help you stay organized in style. While it comes at a steep price, it’s backed by the trusted reputation of Smythson, a British luxury leather goods brand that’s repeatedly proven the staying power of its pieces over the past 130 years.

Crafted from lightweight calfskin crossgrain leather, it’s both flexible and durable, promising to safely store your belongings through years of travel. A zip compartment allows you to separate out coins and bills, while a boarding pass slot and a roomy pocket with three labeled compartments offers space to tuck your tickets, passport, and more. The flap closure, while stylish, is slightly less secure than a zipper, although the snap hardware is quite durable. Choose from six shades like classic black or navy, or a cheery peony pink.

The Details: Crossgrain calf leather | 9.5 x 5 inches

Best AirTag Compatible

Normest airtag travel wallet.

This super-slim wallet manages to fit several credit cards and your passport — and it ensures you’ll never lose any of them thanks to a slot for an AirTag.

Normest claims the wallet holds up to 12 cards, but if you pack too many in, they tend to slide out.

Anyone who’s prone to misplacing their belongings — or just appreciates the peace of mind of knowing where they are at all times — will love the Normest Airtag Travel Wallet. It’s compatible with Apple AirTags, which enable you to use your phone to track down your belongings. An AirTag holder is a huge bonus feature and we loved that this one was easy to use.

The RFID-blocking leather wallet is ultra slim and lightweight (just 1.9 ounces), but can hold up to 12 cards in its three credit card slots, and there’s a vertical slip pocket for currency or a vaccine card, plus a pocket for easy access to your passport. Note that you won’t want to overstuff the wallet with cards, as you might stretch the pockets and in turn find that cards fall out more easily. We found that our cards and passport fit snugly inside, but not so tightly that they were difficult to remove. We were even able to fit two passports inside, although the clip was then harder to close (but still possible).

Best for Phone

Bandolier mila magsafe charging crossbody.

Bandolier Mila

Beyond its convenient hands-free crossbody design, this case also wirelessly charges your phone.

It’s only compatible with iPhones.

We wish this case was compatible with every type of smartphone, because it’s a true game changer. Made of luxe pebbled leather, it’s a travel wallet with a drop-proof case for your iPhone included (but you’ll likely still want to invest in a glass screen protector to keep your tech safe). The attached card portion has two slots, each of which can accommodate 3-4 cards, and it doubles as a phone stand when flipped open. The phone case itself is MagSafe-compatible which is a huge bonus while traveling so you don’t need to remove the phone from this wallet case for charging.

It’s extremely chic and hangs securely from a detachable crossbody strap that’s extendable from 48-54 inches, so you can adjust it to whatever length suits you best. Choose from a black case with gold, pewter, or silver accents to suit your personal style.

The Details: Pebble leather | iPhone 12 to 15 Pro Max

Best Continental

Tumi voyageur zip-around continental wallet.

The zip-around closure offers maximum security for your belongings, plus the long external pocket is great for easy boarding pass access.

It’s not quite big enough to fit a passport.

Tumi is one of the most trusted brands in long-lasting luggage and travel accessories, and this continental wallet is a perfect example of why. Outfitted with a sturdy zip-around closure, it offers the highest protection for your valuables, ensuring nothing falls out even when tossed around in your bag. We love that there’s a front zip pocket as well as a back slip pocket, allowing you to quickly access your essentials without ever even opening your wallet. Inside the accordion-style wallet, there are ample compartments for your belongings, with 12 card slots, two slip pockets and three gusseted sections. It also features a two-year warranty for added peace of mind.

Best Wristlet

Athleta coffee run clutch.

It’s super sleek and the material is easy to clean.

It’s larger than it looks in the photos.

This slim wristlet lays flat when empty, but can fit just about everything you need for a day on the go. At 8 inches long, it’s large enough to accommodate your phone, earbuds, credit cards, car keys, and passport — and, even if it looks a little bulky when all packed up, it still feels secure on your wrist. The strap and carabiner which attaches it are sturdy enough to be tossed around a fair amount, and the recycled nylon that makes up the wallet itself is durable and water-resistant. The main zippered pocket is a safe space for your phone and cash, while the front snap-closure pocket fits a passport. The interior credit card slots are also RFID protected.

The Details: Recycled nylon | 8 x 0.5 x 4.5 inches

Best Designer

Bottega veneta passport case.

Bottega Veneta

The contrast lining offers a bold and unexpected surprise that’s sure to impress.

There’s no zippered pocket or snap closure, so you won’t be able to carry coins.

This bifold wallet is so buttery soft that you’ll find yourself constantly reaching into your pocket — not to check if it’s there, but just to enjoy the feel of it. It’s understated yet classic, with Bottega Veneta’s instantly-recognizable Intrecciato (interwoven) calfskin leather. While it’s available in three neutral shades, we love that the smooth leather lining comes in a contrasting color, creating a delightfully unexpected interplay when you open the black case to reveal the brand’s iconic bright green interior. Minimalists will appreciate the subtlety of the design, which features five card slots and two large pockets to tuck away your passport and other documents. While this is perhaps the most stylish pick on this list, it isn’t the most secure — there’s no closure, so you’ll want to take good care to keep it safe.

The Details: Intrecciato calfskin leather | 3.7 x 5.2 inches

Best Water-resistant

Monos metro folio kit.

This beautifully designed kit can accommodate an eReader as well as your passport and travel essentials.

It’s fairly bulky to use as an everyday wallet.

We’ll come right out and say it: we’re obsessed with the Monos Metro Folio Kit. While it feels a bit large to tote around on its own, it’s built with a QuickSnap attachment, so that it can be easily attached to the brand’s Metro Backpack or Metro Duffel for convenient carrying. Inside, it's got a spot for everything you could possibly need. One side features 7 elastic loops, which can be used to secure anything from pens and charging cords to lip balms and earbud cases. The other side boasts a zippered pocket for coins, a key ring, 4 card slots, a small pocket for an SD card, plus two larger pockets for currency, your passport, or an eReader . It’s made from a gorgeous and highly water-resistant vegan leather — just note that it’s not fully waterproof. There are 9 colors to choose from, with classics like black and ivory or a more playful purple.

The Details: Vegan leather | 9 x 7 x 1.5 inches

Dagne Dover Accordion Travel Wallet

Dagne Dover

Even when full, this little wallet never feels bulky.

You may want to treat your leather before use in order to protect it and extend its lifespan.

At just 0.2 pounds, this pocket-sized wallet is ideal for minimalists who are looking for a place to stash their passport without all the bells and whistles of some larger models. The luxurious crafted pebble leather is designed to last a lifetime, particularly if you treat it with a waterproofing product first. We appreciate the nod towards sustainability too, as the lining is made of 55 percent recycled Repreve, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. Inside, there are two larger pockets for your passport and currency, plus six card slots (and one more external card slot). The magnetic closure is powerful, but may not offer enough peace of mind for more anxious travelers.

The Details: Pebble leather, recycled plastic | 6.75 x 0.5 x 4.25 inches

Best Money Belt

Raytix rfid money belt.

It’s made of a moisture-wicking fabric that helps avoid sweat build-up when worn around your waist.

It isn’t completely invisible beneath tighter clothes, especially if packed to capacity.

At just 1.13 ounces, this is an ultra-lightweight and reliable money belt option you can wear all day long without fuss. It features two zippered pockets in the front, which are spacious enough to hold your passport, IDs, cards, and currency, plus other travel essentials like train tickets and boarding passes. There’s also a back open mesh pocket and two small inner mesh pouches, which allow you to separate out currency to stay organized on the go. The product also comes with a large packing pad and pen, which we found superfluous as the pad doesn’t fit inside the pouch.

Made from a hardy nylon ripstop fabric, this feels sturdy enough to perform well over time. The moisture-wicking, breathable back panel keeps you cool and doesn’t trap sweat, plus the built-in belt is made from flexible elastic that is designed for a 27- to 41-inch waist, but can stretch to accommodate a bit more. We found the waist clip easy to adjust and very secure, which is a major factor in choosing a reliable money belt. It also felt soft against our skin throughout the day thanks to the padded mesh backing. If you’re worried about it being seen through your clothes, opt for looser garments or only toss in the essentials.

The Details: Nylon ripstop | 11.5 x 5.5 inches

Best Armband

Flexx id wrist wallet.

It offers quick and easy access to your belongings, while keeping them securely on your person.

It isn’t machine washable, so you’ll have to spot treat it with a leather cleaner or mild soap.

If you’re a smartwatch fan, you’ll love the Flexx ID Trekk Wearable Wallet, which similarly allows you to streamline all of your essentials into one convenient and always-visible place: your wrist! Unlike wearing your heart on your sleeve, this is an almost risk-free option for keeping your valuables safe from theft or misplacement. While it doesn’t have as much capacity as other travel wallets, it still manages to fit up to five cards. The front pocket is perfect for work IDs or hotel key cards that you typically need to remove and scan, as you can hold your arm up to a scanner without removing them and enter hands free. There’s also a back zippered pocket for added convenience, which fits small essentials like keys or cash. Note that it’s not super breathable, so it can get a bit moist in warm weather or if wearing it while working out. It’s also only available in one size, which fits wrists that are 6.5 to 7.5 inches — but other styles from the brand (like the Pro or Monty models) offer various sizes.

The Details: Leather, spandex, polyester, cotton | 5.51 x 3.94 x 0.79 inches

Best Convertible

Veci 2-in-1 magsafe compatible bifold wallet.

This wallet comes with a MagSafe detachable card case that attaches to your iPhone.

While the detachable card case can be used by anyone, the MagSafe feature only works with iPhones.

This ultra-slim bifold is perfectly pocket sized, making it a great choice for those who prefer to keep the bare essentials on them at all times. It features two compartments for all types of currency, plus 8 total card slots — two of which are horizontal and hidden. The best thing about this wallet is that you can detach a portion of it whenever you want to pare down to just 2 or 3 cards — but be warned that there’s a brief learning curve on figuring out how much pressure to apply to do so. The removable card case is MagSafe compatible, which means it uses a strong magnet to secure itself to your iPhone. The wallet also has magnetic shielding, in order to protect your cards from damage.

Best RFID-blocking

Zero grid travel neck wallet with rfid blocking.

It comes with 7 removable RFID-blocking sleeves, which can be used even if you take your belongings out of the wallet.

It’s a bit long and bulky.

While neck wallets aren’t for everyone, they are excellent at providing the highest level of security for your belongings. You can keep your most precious items — your passport, currency, phone, and other small items — close to your chest, wearing them discreetly beneath your clothes or on top of them. The Zero Grid Travel Neck Wallet has three zippered closures for maximum protection of your valuables with removable RFID-blocking sleeves. Made from water-resistant, ripstop nylon, this durable wallet comes with a number of additional features which we appreciate, including recovery tags and travel insurance that covers up to $300 if anything is ever stolen from your pouch.

The Details: Nylon | 7.5 x 5.7 inches

Best Budget

Zoppen passport holder travel wallet.

It’s budget-friendly but still has slots for everything you could need on your trip.

The faux leather doesn’t look as chic as pure leather alternatives.

Constructed from RFID-blocking vegan leather, The Zoppen Passport Holder Travel Wallet has consistently topped our favorite travel wallet lists over the years. It’s slim yet sturdy, with compartments for everything from credit cards and currency to a small smartphone (a rare feature — it accommodates anything under 5.8 inches long). This is truly a small storage miracle, with over 10 slots for hotel keys, transit passes, IDs, and more to help keep even the messiest among us organized on the go. Use the large slip pocket to keep track of your vaccine card and up to two passports (a particularly handy feature for parents traveling with kids), while the extended zippered pocket keeps various types of currency secure.

It’s also one of the more affordable options that made our list, and it’s definitely the best value purchase. It comes with a wristlet attachment, which is another convenient carrying option — although it becomes a bit unwieldy to use when the wallet is full. We love that it’s available in 18 vibrant colors, from cherry red to a scholarly brown. However, note that it features a snap closure, which doesn’t offer as much protection for your belongings as a zipper.

The Details: PU leather and aluminum | 5 x 7.7 x 1 inches

Best for Families

Valante travel document organizer.

There’s ample space to store the whole family’s passports and documents, plus it boasts versatile carrying options.

It’s extremely capacious which may be excessive if you’re only traveling with two passports and no change.

If you’re toting your entire family’s passports around, it’s imperative that you can rely on your passport case to keep your documents both organized and secure. We love the Valate RFID Passport Holder Wallet for its spacious interior, which can fit six passports and boasts four credit card slots, a zippered coin pouch, two large zippered pockets for bills, two stash pockets for other documents, and more. There’s even an external zip pocket that we found large enough to fit an iPhone, plus two more external slots to store boarding passes. We were able to fit everything we needed and more, which left us wishing that the wallet was slightly more compact. However, we appreciated the variety of carrying options, including a strap to wear it around your neck if you’ve got your hands full with the kids. Plus, it’s made out of moisture-resistant polyester, which is a breeze to spot clean in case of accidental spills.

The Details: Polyester | 10.2 x 6.1 inches

Best Colors

Lucrin geneva passport travel wallet.

It’s fashionable enough to use as your everyday wallet, and comes in five types of leather and dozens of rich tones.

It's fairly long.

We’re obsessed with the all-in-one design of this minimalist case, which offers 13 regular card slots, 3 larger card slots, a roomy zippered pocket for cash or important documents, plus two stash pockets for your passport and boarding pass. We tried it out on several flights and found the design to be intuitive, functional, and stylish, helping us to stay organized without sacrificing our style. Plus, the durable zippered pouch and button latch helped to secure everything inside.

While it’s on the larger size, it never felt cumbersome — we love that it’s stylish enough to double as an evening clutch for a night out, and that it can be comfortably packed into a backpack or larger purse while traveling. The price feels like a worthwhile investment, given the high-quality leather, which comes in smooth, granulated, square granulated, vegetable tanned, and crocodile-style calfskin options. You can completely personalize your pick by choosing from a rainbow of over two dozen shades, like cherry red or classic tan — making it a wonderful gift option for yourself or a fellow jetsetter.

The Details: Leather or calfskin | 9.8 x 4.9 inches

Tips for Buying a Travel Wallet

Decide how many compartments you need.

When purchasing a travel wallet, make sure it has enough slots for all of your travel needs. If you’re a frequent international flier, you might want to prioritize space for a passport, or something large enough to accommodate various currencies (and a coin pouch for countries in which coins are commonly used). If you’re looking for something more minimalist, you might want to opt for a wallet with a detachable card case as well, so that you can truly pare down to the basics.

Durability is key

A wallet that falls apart mid-trip is not just annoying, but potentially disastrous — especially if it’s housing your passport. Investing in a piece that’s well-made and ideally water-resistant is of the utmost importance for protecting your belongings. Leather (or high-quality vegan leather) and ripstop nylon are some of the sturdiest options for keeping your things secure.

Prioritize safety features

While zip closures aren’t necessary, they do offer the highest protection, as they secure your belongings from slipping out. Ideally, look for a wallet with at least one zippered pocket, to tuck away any small valuables. Hidden pockets for cards or cash are also important to help avoid flashing how much cash you’re carrying while you’re out and about. Easy access pockets on the exterior are additionally handy for quickly grabbing essentials like keys or public transit cards.

Travel wallets are typically larger in size than everyday or small wallets , as they’re designed to accommodate passports and other travel essentials, like boarding passes or train tickets. Most also have a pen loop, so you can store a writing utensil for easy access when filling out customs forms. Travel wallets may also feature more unique additions, like organizational tabs or attachable tracking capabilities.

RFID-blocking (radio frequency identification) wallets add an extra layer of protection for travelers who are concerned about the potential of someone wirelessly accessing the information stored in your credit cards. While this is a rare form of theft, it can’t hurt to opt for a wallet that offers the extra shield — although, unfortunately, there’s no way to tell if it’s actually working.

Insider Today

Passports can be easily battered: Thin and light, they get worn down if you're a frequent traveler who shoves them into jeans pockets or carry-on backpacks that are filled to the brim.

I was never a fan of passport holders and cases until I found myself in situations when I needed one. I took a few international flights where I couldn't use mobile boarding passes and had to carry paper ones. I remembered what a pain it can be to keep track of your passport, boarding pass, and landing cards, plus other notes and documents you might need when you're throwing everything loose into a backpack pocket.

I decided to look into travel wallets and passport covers, thinking I can streamline everything if I could keep all the travel documents for a given flight in one holder; I'd also be able to protect my passport. I knew that money belts and travel wallets that go around the neck are popular, but I had no interest in one of those. I wanted a sleek, clean-looking wallet.

After researching different options and testing a handful, the Bellroy Travel Wallet was my consistent go-to. I've also included other great travel wallet options if Bellroy's wares aren't for you. Read on to see which of our picks is the best for your travel wallet needs.

  • The best overall: Bellroy Travel Wallet
  • The best minimalist travel wallet: Mr. Lentz Slim Passport Wallet
  • The best with a zipper: Fjällräven Passport Wallet
  • The best for family trips: Lewis N. Clark Travel Wallet
  • The best for holding boarding passes: Cuyana Classic Passport Case

first direct travel wallet

The Bellroy Travel Wallet keeps your passport, boarding passes, landing cards, and more in a compact, organized package.

Pros : Keeps everything you need handy while traveling, easy to navigate, great organization, includes a pen, small enough to carry in a pocket in the airport, has RFID-blocking capabilities

Cons : Too big to use as a daily wallet during trips

If you're a regular reader of Insider Reviews, chances are you're already familiar with Bellroy — after all, the company makes our favorite wallets. The Australian brand has a smart, minimalist, and functional design philosophy. It also uses ethically-sourced materials and has a great manufacturing process to produce high-quality gear.

What I love about Bellroy's travel wallet is that it holds everything. It has room for all of the travel documents you might need over the course of a multi-stop international trip, plus cash, credit cards, a SIM card, and even a pen.

At first glance, the wallet looks like an oversized bifold, opening just like an everyday wallet. One side has room for your passport, with a dedicated pocket that takes up that whole side. The other side has credit card slots — either two or four, depending on which edition of the wallet you choose — positioned vertically so you just drop the cards in. The wallet also has an open-top pocket like a traditional bill compartment, but it's divided into two sections.

There are a few more "hidden" card slots and a sim-card holder within the inner cash compartment, as well as my favorite feature of this wallet: a tiny pen, which is kept tucked away right in the middle so that you can fill out landing cards and jot any quick notes you need.

Available in a few colors, the wallet is big enough to hold just about any currency, and I like to keep a little bit in one of the sections of the large cash/document pocket. The other section is great for holding boarding passes, custom cards, and any other travel documents you might need to have handy. I prefer putting these in the outermost section so that they don't crease when folded. I use the inside part for cash — You can put cash in both sections, using the divider to keep different currencies separate.

In theory, Bellroy intends the travel wallet to be your everyday wallet on the road, something you can carry with your cards, cash, passport, and everything else you need for a day of exploring. I think it's a little big for that. I can certainly fit in in a back pocket or jacket when I'm in the airport, but it's big enough that I would be worried about theft walking around a city with it.

The handmade Mr. Lentz Slim Passport Wallet is timeless and built to last.

Pros : Slim, rugged, handmade, holds the essentials

Cons : Needs to be broken in, brass rivets may not appeal to everyone

The Mr. Lentz brand is run by one person — Evan Lentz — who makes all of his products by hand in his own workshop. Lentz built the brand with a "modern cowboy" feel, designed to evoke days of hard work on the windswept plains, and his online shops reflect that with old-west images and icons.

Mr. Lentz makes wallets, bags, and other accessories using durable, rugged, and time-proven materials like full-grain leather, brass, and wood. Lentz's passport wallet is a typical example of this style.

The wallet is much more scaled-down than the Bellroy Travel Wallet making it great for those who just want to ensure some protection for their passport without adding a ton of bulk. A solid piece of leather makes a bifold that opens like a book. The right-side has a pocket for your passport, which is a little tight and only meant to fit the back cover of the passport. That way, the passport can be read without removing it from the wallet. You can just hand the whole package to the customs agent. Once the wallet breaks in a bit, you can fit the whole closed passport in that pocket.

The other side of the wallet has two card slots that can hold four to six cards. There's a larger pocket right behind the card slots that is perfect for holding a bit of spare cash. You can also fit travel documents, like boarding passes, in this sleeve.

Aesthetically, the Mr. Lentz Passport Wallet looks rugged and hardy. The thick full-grain leather holds up well and develops a nice patina as you use it and break it in. Solid brass rivets line the outsides of the wallet, holding it together. The wallet also ships with a free tin of proprietary leather conditioner to help keep it soft as it ages and breaks in.

Thin enough to fit in a front pocket, this wallet is a perfect option for those looking for something that will last a long time and hold just the essentials. You can also choose to engrave the wallet, using any of a few different methods.

The Fjällräven Passport Wallet closes securely with a zipper and will hang on to your documents no matter where you go.

Pros : Water-resistant, protects your travel documents from the elements, keeps things from falling out and getting lost

Cons : Both sizes are bigger and bulkier than other travel wallets because of the zipper and material

If you're backpacking and carrying a lot, or want to just throw your travel documents in a bag's main compartment, a bifold travel wallet might not be your best option.

A more secure passport wallet with a zipper, like the Fjällräven Passport Wallet, lets you toss it in a bag with everything else, and you don't have to worry about anything falling out or getting lost.

The Fjällräven Passport Wallet is made of a water-resistant waxed canvas. Like most of the other passport wallets you'll find out there, the Fjallraven option is structured like a bifold, but this one has a zipper running along the entire outside.

When opened, the wallet has space to tuck your passport and folded boarding pass on the right side. There's also an interior zippered pocket, perfect for coins, ticket stubs, or other odd bits and ends. The left side of the wallet has six card slots, and there's an open pocket at the top for cash.

Fjallraven also makes a larger version of this wallet called the Travel Wallet , rather than the "Passport Wallet." They're basically the same thing; the main difference is that the Travel Wallet has a few more card slots and a loop to hold a pen, and is designed to fit unfolded boarding passes. It's almost more like a small purse or clutch. The smaller Passport Wallet can also hold a small pen and boarding passes, but there's no loop to keep it in place and boarding passes must be folded.

Personally, I prefer the smaller Passport Wallet — even though you have to fold your boarding passes to fit them, it's just a nicer hand-held size. However, both are great options, especially if you're storing the wallet in a bag.

The Lewis N. Clark Travel Wallet keeps the whole family organized as you head on your next adventure.

Pros : Keeps a family's travel documents organized, well-positioned pockets and compartments, includes a pen

Cons : Large, won't fit in a pocket, zipper issues

Even though I love traveling, there's no doubt that it can be stressful. The stress is even worse when you're managing logistics for a group, even your own family.

While there's not much to do about it, you can at least make your group's time at the airports a little bit easier with the Lewis N. Clark Travel Wallet . With room for about four passports, plus cash, cards, boarding passes, customs forms, a pen, and even a phone, this is more than a travel wallet. It's more like a family travel organizer.

While the Lewis N. Clark is naturally bigger than a one-person travel wallet, it's smaller than you might expect considering how much it holds. That said, this isn't going in anyone's front pocket — think of it more as a folio.

The wallet folds closed like a clamshell and zips shut all the way around. When it's closed, there's still access to a small zip pocket on the front.

When open, there are three pockets on the right side that are for passports. You can fit a few passports in each pocket, according to Amazon reviewers. It has six credit card slots, a zipper compartment for change and cash, and a larger zippered compartment for boarding passes or cash on the left side. In the middle, there's a loop for a pen so you can fill out forms on the plane.

The Travel Wallet is made from nylon that's durable and protective. It also has RFID-blocking material built in to add an extra layer of protection to your cards and passports. As for downsides, some buyers mention problems with the zipper.

Cuyana's Classic Passport Case  holds a full-size boarding pass and several cards in a chic leather wallet.

Pros:  Holds a full boarding pass, six card slots, multiple slide pockets for passports and more, stylish, fun colors, real leather

Cons:  Won't fit in your pocket

Cuyana is known for making quality leather goods for very affordable prices. The Insider Reviews team recently tested a number of the company's wallets, including the Classic Passport Holder. We loved the wallet so much that we wrote a full review about it.

The simple leather wallet was designed in San Francisco and handmade in Argentina. Measuring 9-inches long, it's longer than most other passport holders, so it can hold a full boarding pass without wrinkling or folding. Cuyana also added a dedicated pocket for your passport, six card slots, and two large slide pockets for travel documents and anything else you need.

The pebbled leather is soft and smooth, and the card slots keep your cards in place securely without being too tight. You can get the passport holder in navy blue, stone gray, red, black, or a crocodile-embossed black. If you so choose, Cuyana will even monogram your wallet.

Based on our experience, it's the perfect stylish travel wallet, but it won't fit in your pocket, unless you happen to be wearing some intense cargo pants. It's a great pick if you have space in your bag and need to manage documents that you simply don't want to fold. — Malarie Gokey

6 Best Hidden Travel Wallets to Keep Your Valuables Safe on the Go

Losing your wallet is never an enjoyable experience. Throw yourself into a foreign country and suddenly, it’s a whole lot worse.

Pickpocketing, theft, or general carelessness - the reason why you’re now wallet-less doesn’t matter. But it’s the stress that comes with replacing your ID and credit cards is the worst part .

Canceling and requesting new cards - especially without a fixed address is a nightmare. I’m still waiting on a replacement physical card and mine was blocked 3 months ago (someone treated themselves to 15 Google gift cards on my dime).

So, how do you minimize the risk ? First, invest in a hidden wearable wallet - one that can’t be easily accessed by those around you. The second tip is to split your valuables across two locations - one on your person and another hidden wallet in your rucksack. If one becomes compromised, you’ve not lost everything - there’s still a backup waiting for you.

So what should you look for in a hidden travel wallet and what are the top options available on the market today ? Check out our guide to the top hidden travel wallets below.

Best Hidden Travel Wallets: Our Top Picks

1. eagle creek undercover hidden pocket.

Best Overall

Eagle Creek Undercover Hidden Pocket

The Eagle Creek Undercover Hidden Pocket is a fantastic wearable hidden travel wallet that’s lightweight, durable, and adjustable .

The RFID-blocking pouch is great for storing passports and cards when out exploring unfamiliar destinations. There’s a pair of pockets to aid with organization and ample room for all of your essentials on a typical day trip.

A moisture-wicking and breathable mesh back panel helps keep you nice and cool and an adjustable waist strap and quality buckle help nail the perfect fit. Do keep in mind, however, that this only reaches the maximum size of 50” .

2. VENTURE 4TH Travel Money Belt

VENTURE 4TH Travel Money Belt

The VENTURE 4TH Travel Money Belt is our pick for the best value traditional hidden travel wallet for digital nomads.

With a simple, dual-pocket construction - the belt offers plenty of storage and organization for all of your daily essentials. Passports, cards, cash, and smartphones can all be easily stored in the water-resistant wallet . The back panel is made with breathability in mind - keeping you nice and cool when wearing the wallet.

However, with the heavy-duty 210D ripstop nylon , some users do complain about a rustling sound - but with the budget buy, it’s hard to complain. Consider upgrading over to our best overall pick to overcome this minor limitation.

3. Thule Crossover 2

Best RFID Travel Organizer

Thule Crossover 2

A tale of two parts , the Crossover 2 is a travel organizer first and a hidden travel wallet second .

The organizer pouch is a fantastic bit of kit that’s great for keeping everything safe , secure, and in one place. Think of it as a small tech bag to stow chargers, adapters, cables, and thumb drives.

Inside the organizer, there’s a separate RFID-blocking magnetic pouch that’s perfect for day trips. Use this to carry cards and passports without the worry of electronic skimming .

Ultimately, the Thule Crossover 2 is best suited to smaller trips with less reliance on bulkier tech items. Use this as a handy tech organizer with a useful, reliable RFID-blocking pouch .

4. Eagle Creek RFID Blocker Hidden Pocket

Best Travel Wallet

Eagle Creek RFID Blocker Hidden Pocket

The Eagle Creek RFID Blocker Hidden Pocket is a unique wearable wallet in that it is stored inside your trousers.

Simply attach one of the two belt attachments (one black, one brown) to camouflage the hidden pocket to your regular belt. When it’s secure, flip the pocket around and stow it in your waistband - a genius idea, although it can be difficult to access once arranged .

Inside the pocket, there are two mesh pockets to aid in organization . There’s plenty of room for cash, cards, your passport, and your smartphone . It’s best suited to adventure travelers exploring places that may not have the best safety reputation.

5. Bellroy Travel Wallet

Best Luxury Travel Wallet

Bellroy Travel Wallet

The Bellroy Travel Wallet is a great pick for those searching for a luxury passport-hiding experience .

The premium, environmentally certified leather - available in five different colors - offers a sleek and stylish design that’s perfect for business travel . Inside the wallet, there’s enough space for 10 cards, a passport, cash, and even a micro pen (included) .

A 3-year guarantee is offered on the Bellroy travel wallet - a relief after considering the price tag. The cost is the only major downside , but it’s a premium product that you’ll receive for the premium price .

6. FlipBelt Classic Running Belt

Best for Active Nomads

FlipBelt Classic Running Belt

Designed for running, walking, and hiking - the FlipBelt Classic Running Belt is the best overall hidden travel wallet for active nomads.

The moisture-wicking design is full of clever features that runners will love . A flat seam construction prevents chafing, an internal hook helps secure keys and four separate internal pockets are great for organizing your valuables before heading out the door.

Although the belt is designed for moderate activity , there’s no reason it can’t be used as a day-to-day travel wallet . Do, however, note that there is no passport pocket or RFID-blocking tech used.

How We Chose Our Picks

Comfort (breathable materials and adjustable straps).

For wearable travel wallets, comfort is a priority for us . An uncomfortable wallet will spend the trip in one place and one place only - in your rucksack. We’ve searched for the most comfortable travel wallets with a focus on materials and adjustability to find the perfect fit.

It’s important to choose a travel wallet that’s large enough to carry all of your valuables . Set aside everything you hope to store to gain a good idea of the size that you’ll need. Common packables include passports, phones, bank cards, cash, etc.

The more that you pack into a wearable travel wallet, the harder it is to conceal . If you’re hoping to hide wallets, cameras, etc. it’s best to invest in a non-wearable . Wearables are best suited to slender, lightweight items (passports, cash, bank cards, mobile phone).

Additional Security Features

Additional security features, such as an RFID-blocking lining , offer peace of mind when traveling in a population-dense area. Store credit cards and IDs and prevent unexpected card activation when out and about.

Hidden pockets are always handy - but can be cumbersome with wearable wallets. These are particularly good for storing jewelry , but everyone has different valuables and preferences!

Water resistance

Water resistance works in two ways for hidden travel wallets. On rainy days , a permeable travel wallet can lead to a soggy passport - a real recipe for disaster.

But for wearable travel wallets, sweat resistance can be just as big of a problem on super warm or active days. An uncomfortable, sweaty stomach can cause damp passport problems just as easily as a torrential downpour. A combination of sweat-wicking and waterproof characteristics is the gold standard for travel wallets.

The 10 Best Travel Wallets for Globetrotting

Best Travel Wallets 00 Hero

By: Tim Huber Published: Jun 21, 2023

When traveling , one of, if not the single most important item we carry, is our passport. These government-issued identification and travel documents are vital to international travel and are almost always required when crossing borders. This alone makes passports essential to keep secure and protected — and that’s before factoring in the rampant black market for passports that drives the theft of these items and results in literally millions of passports being stolen annually.

With mandates being lifted across the planet and international travel now opening back up for the first time in several years, it seems like the perfect time to revisit the world of travel and passport wallets. Below, we’ll not only be counting down our choices for the best travel and passport wallets currently on the market, but we’ll also be delving into the main factors to consider when shopping for one.

The Seven Main Factors To Consider When Buying A Travel Wallet

Though travel and passport wallets are admittedly fairly straightforward items, there are a surprising number of minor details one should be privy to before making their purchase. Below, we’ve outlined seven of the most crucial areas to consider when shopping for a passport wallet.

Materials: Arguably the most important factor to consider when purchasing a travel wallet is the material — or materials — used to create it. This element will not only play a substantial role in the look and feel of a given travel wallet but will also determine its durability and much of its overall quality. Not unlike regular wallets, passport wallets now come in a slew of different materials, from more traditional constructions to cutting-edge fabrics and textiles.

Construction Technique(s): Just as important as the materials being utilized is how those materials are pieced together — also known as a construction technique. Today’s travel wallets feature a variety of construction techniques, from traditional stitching to laser-welds.

Closure: Most travel wallets on the market open up to reveal a passport and other vital travel essentials. As such, the majority of these items feature some type of closure system to hold them shut when not being used. This includes everything from zippers to snap buttons to embedded magnets.

Amenities & Organization: Though a travel wallet’s main job is typically to protect your passport, plenty of models on the market also boast additional travel-focused features and amenities. This includes pockets and organizers for stashing things like credit cards , boarding passes, and other tickets, as well as pen loops, key leashes, and holders for Airtags and tracking devices. And, not unlike regular EDC wallets, a great many of the travel-specific wallets currently being sold also feature RFID protection.

Size: Because most travel wallets are built to accommodate a passport, they unsurprisingly tend to sport a rectangular, semi-passport-shaped profile. With that said, there are travel wallets that offer storage and organization for other essentials for globetrotting — like key cards, boarding passes, SD cards, licenses, and other documents. What’s more, there are also family and group-oriented travel wallets that include slots for housing multiple passports. The size of a travel wallet also determines other important factors such as whether it can easily be slipped in a pant pocket or quick-access compartment of a travel pack.

Style: Just like with regular everyday use wallets, travel-specific models are produced in all manner of different shapes and styles. While we subscribe to the belief that factors like materials and amenities should serve as the main guiding forces in your search, there’s still nothing wrong with factoring your personal aesthetic taste into the equation when shopping around for a passport or travel wallet.

Price: Travel and passport wallets are offered across a wide range of prices. Because these items aren’t absolutely essential, it can sometimes feel difficult to justify the purchase of one of the more premium items on the market. The reality, however, is that you tend to get what you pay for in this segment, with the higher-priced passport wallets typically boasting markedly better quality — along with the ability to last a lifetime. A travel wallet can also save you money in the long run, as it can protect passports and other vital items that would be exorbitant to replace if lost or damaged.

Selection & Testing Process

How & Why We Got Hands-On With These Particular Travel Wallets

Best Travel Wallets Tested 02 1

Walking a fine line between passport covers and regular EDC bifolds and cardholders, travel wallets are a fairly unique product space that’s designed for a very specific purpose. While losing your wallet will always be problematic, this dilemma is exponentially worse when it occurs overseas. Travel wallets aim to mitigate this unfortunate possible circumstance by providing a secure means of carrying, organizing, and transporting your passport, money, tickets, boarding passes, and other vital documents. Due to their intended use, the most important factors to consider are undoubtedly size, organizational amenities, and the materials and construction technique(s) used to craft each model — elements that we used to guide our search when compiling a list of the best travel wallets on the market.

While a product’s materials, list of features, and general spec sheet do all provide helpful insight into the quality of each travel wallet, the only way to really determine the overall performance and utility of each model is to use it — which is exactly what we’ve done. After using the aforementioned criteria to formulate our list of picks, we then set about putting each and every travel wallet to the test, utilizing one or more of the models on our list while taking both short weekend excursions and extended overseas trips. This firsthand experience also provided insight into each travel wallets build quality and fit and finish, as well as each’s versatility, with some models boasting the ability to accommodate a smartphone , EDC gear, or other items that increase potential utility, usability, and value.

We found travel wallets that are great for navigating old cities around the clock, and travel wallets that can handle all sorts of rugged adventures. We curated all our travel wallets with durability and design in mind, but we also considered features that make each wallet unique in and of its own. The one quality you'll find in each travel wallet? They all are sized to hold an American passport nice and snug. After all, it wouldn't be a travel wallet if it didn't hold your most important papers.

Pioneer's Passport Wallet is wonderfully simple in design and tough as nails thanks to its waterproof ripstop fabric construction. In fact, we found the waterproof ripstop fabric is great for handling humid environments, staying dry and and stiff, as opposed to getting all slimy and flimsy as other travel wallets can become in these climates. As far as stroage goes, it comes with a full length cash pocket, pockets to store up to 8 cards, and a 3D molded passport pocket designed to fit an American passport perfectly snug.

Due to this wallet's construction. look, and function, we found it to be our favorite pick when taking to warm weather vacation and cold weather trips. The material is simply just too good, and you never have to worry about any of the contents sliding out. Simply put, the Pioneer Passport Wallet is capable of all kinds of trips and adventures. This is a quality investment we'd recommend over and over again.

Bellroy makes several great travel wallets, but the wallet we found most like the wallet you probably already carry is the bifold Travel Wallet. It's got a fine all leather make and will hold a passport, cash, train tickets, and up to 10 cards. What's cool is the wallet comes with a micro pen that hangs inside the wallet's spine, which we found to be useful when wanting to write down recommendations of places to visit from friends and other travelers.

Looks can be deceiving due to the wallet's traditional bifold design. It measures 3.8-inches tall by 6-inches wide, so it is big. Overall we find it to be a great minimalist travel wallet with a classic style that blends in nicely in all environments.

This reasonably priced wallet from Fjallraven is made with a durable waxed waterproof canvas and a YKK zippered closure to protect all your documents and cards from the elements. Inside are 5 card pockets, 2 cash pockets, and 1 zippered coin pouch. Looking for the passport pocket? That would be behind the coin pouch—it's a nice and discrete design note, we know.

If you're looking for a rugged wallet with waterproofing and protection but don't want to pay over $100, this is a solid option. Fjallraven fans will see this wallet has the same quality construction like the brand's other gear, which is a great sign because the maker is one of the best valued outdoor brands out there.

The design of a good AirTag wallet is still being perfected, but that doesn't mean we don't like what's already on the market. If you're looking for a travel wallet you can store your AirTag in, this one from Lumberjack Plaid is our latest favorite.

It comes in a sleek and stylish leather (3 colors available) and features a passport pocket, a long pocket for tickets and cash, and 3 card slots. You get all this for $40, which is an excellent value for such a quality wallet. Just be aware the leather can show scratches pretty easily; most notably on the dark leather.

Made to fall in line with all your other Tumi luggage, the Passport Case comes in a sleek, all-black look with more interior space than one might think. We're talking a passport pocket, a billfold compartment, an ID window, 2 slip pockets, and 8 card pockets. You get the best of both worlds with this wallet: great style and high functionality. Well done Tumi, well done.

We get it, many of us aren't jet-setting out of the U.S. several times in a year. Nonetheless it's important to have a passport wallet even if you're only getting out of the country once in a blue moon. For overseas trips that are few and far between, this RFID-blocking leather travel passport case for under $30 on Amazon will do the job. It will also give off style points, as the leather has a nice rich look to it that holds up well when used sparingly.

Due to the stitching and overall quality of the materials we'd say this wallet might not be suitable for high levels of use. But because it carries a high durability and functionality for the price, we recommend it as a great travel wallet for those who might need to take a passport with them only once or twice in a year.

If you want to go with a more secure wallet, this thin travel pouch can be strapped around the waist and hold your passport, cash, cards, and more. The pouch itself has RFID tech built-in so you get another level of safety. Plus the pouch is made from water-resistant ripstop, so you won't have to worry about any of your items getting soaked from rain.

One note to point out is even though the price point of this belt is incredibly good, we believe the thin fabric could wear down faster over time than some of the other wallets on this list.

The Apex wallet is made with fine leather that's heat bonded instead of being stitched. The result is a unique design that, when closed, fully encases the inner contents of the wallet from the outside elements. The Apex will hold a passport, cash, and 2-4 cards. And just like the Travel Wallet, you get a small micro pen that can be stored inside on the wallet's spine.

Handcrafted from USA heritage leather, Shinola's Utility Passport Wallet is truly made to age like fine wine. When opening up the wallet, one side contains a passport pocket while the other has 5 faille-lined pockets for your cards. It's not the most feature-loaded travel wallet on this list, and it's certainly not the cheapest, but if you're looking for something simple and timeless then this is the one.

You're not going to find another travel wallet like this one, and that's the point. Texas boot-maker Tecovas went and took the same authentic American alligator leather it uses for its boots and crafted the material into a passport case. The result is a one-of-a-kind piece with a passport pocket and 4 exterior card pockets. What's cool is you can even monogram it.

Of course the price point on this wallet is almost like buying a luxury good, but really the only qualm we have with the wallet is its availability. Sometimes it's popularity gets the best of it, and so you might have to turn to the Ostrich Passport Case or the original Passport Case —two excellent alternatives, no less.

Malbon Golf Yacht Club Passport Holder

Yacht Club Passport Holder

The streetwear-inspired golf brand Malbon Golf has been turning out tons of cool pieces this year. One of its products that has flown under-the-radar is this pebbled leather passport holder. We were surprised to open it up and see tons of card space to go with the passport pocket. And as far as style goes, it comes with cool embossments on the front and inner pocket and is available in three colors.

Tanner Goods Leather Passport Travel Wallet

Leather Passport Travel Wallet

If you liked the full leather of the Shinola travel wallet but wished it had a different interior configuration, then this travel wallet from Tanner Goods is a great alternative. Inside is a passport pocket with a small card pocket on top of the passport flap, plus two additional card slots on the other side.

The wallet might not hold a lot, but if you want a minimalist leather wallet with great style and a thin silhouette, then you'll be happy with this choice.

Zero Grid Travel Wallet Passport Holder

Travel Wallet Passport Holder

Similar to the belted travel wallet we featured earlier, this passport holder can be used as a sling bag and is made with waterproof ripstop and covered with RFID blocking material. What's cool is it zips shut, closing in the passport and up to 10 cards that can fit on the inside. You also get a small stylus that you can hang on the wallet's spine.

What to Consider Before Buying a Travel Wallet

line

Buying a quality travel wallet is going to look a lot like buying your everyday wallet, but the two are not the same. Here's what you need to know.

  • Durability: Making sure your travel wallet is tough and made of good materials is of utmost importance. After all, this is your last line of defense to your passport—the most important document you need when traveling overseas. This prior notion is why we loved reviewing travel wallets made from tear-resistant and water-resistant materials (like the Pioneer Travel Wallet). Premium leather is also a good material to protect your passport, as the leather provides a thick layer to keep moisture and dust from getting to your papers.
  • Security Features: Some travel wallets comes with RFID (radio-frequency identification) lining to help prevent RFID theft. It's true this type of crime doesn't happen a lot, but it is possible, and so buying a travel wallet with RFID lining does add a level of security to your essentials. Another security feature to look for are zippered or snap closures that help keep your passport and cards sealed off. We like these closures because it helps limit the chances of any items accidentally falling out when traveling—which happens more than one might think.
  • AirTag Tracking: Although we only have one AirTag travel wallet we like right now, we anticipate more of these types of wallets to hit the market in the coming year. AirTag wallets have become a huge hit thanks to their tracking abilities, and so any travel wallet that can incorporate an AirTag in a slimming and discrete way should be considered on your shortlist of what travel wallets to buy.

Can You Use a Passport Covers as A Wallet?

commerce breaker

Travel wallets, also sometimes referred to as passport wallets, are the best possible choice for carrying your passport and your cash and cards. Travel wallets are not to be confused with passport covers, which are simply covers you can slide over your passport to add a level of protection.

Passport covers do theoretically have space where you could slide some cash plus 1-2 cards inside, but those spaces oftentimes make your valuables prone to falling out. A passport cover is not designed to hold anything more than a passport, and so whatever else you put in there is going to be like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Stick to a travel wallets for cash, card, and passport carry.

Why Trust Us

In order to keep up with new new designs and releases, the MH tech and gear team is continually testing all of the latest everyday carry accessories to make sure our recommendations reflect the top products within each space.

When it comes to travel wallets, we acquire and call in the latest releases to test, and then we take them out into the real world. At any given point, writers and editors in our office are traveling, and so we plan accordingly whenever we are going to be up in the air to take one or two travel wallets with us to see how they perform. Lastly, we take a hands-on look at the travel wallets up close. We inspect everything from the material to the build of the wallet to determine it's durability and whether or not the price point reflects the overall quality.

How We Selected

line

Our MH commerce team thoroughly researched and tested dozens of the best travel wallets, from budget to designer to premium, gift-worthy models. We noted everything from how snug the wallet fit an American passport to how the interior card slots were organized. We also considered fabric quality (especially when it came to leather) and price. The list above represents our honest picks for the best travel wallets of 2023.

Your wallet is one of the most important items you will ever own. Not only does it hold so many of life’s necessities, like your cash, cards, ID, and driver’s license, but the smooth, worn leather or frayed fabric quickly becomes familiar to you.

As technology starts to replace payment cards with smartphone apps, the need for traditional folded wallets with multiple compartments is beginning to wane.

Minimalist Wallet

Minimalist wallets are becoming increasingly popular, and their slim, compact design makes them just as useful as their larger counterparts.

Because less is often more, these neat little wallets don’t have enough space for you to store your old bus tickets or out-of-date receipts, meaning you only carry what you really need around with you. This makes them perfect for your travels as who needs their library card or Sam’s Club membership card with them abroad?

Without a ton of notes, coins, and scraps of paper weighing you down, you can reduce your clutter. While some minimalist wallets are bigger than others, they will all help you to reduce the amount of stuff you carry with you and help to streamline the way you pay .

Bottom Line: With payment apps offering contactless transactions on your phone or smartwatch, your wallet requirements are reducing every day. Invest in a minimalist wallet and start to lighten your load.

It’s not just the size of the wallet that is important — it is how it functions, too. While you may not need a lot of slots to fit all of your cards, you will want to be able to take some cards and cash with you. The way it looks and feels will no doubt be important to you, too, so consider the following before you buy:

To remain minimal, a slim travel wallet will need to be as compact as possible. This means that they are often not much bigger than the credit cards themselves, and they use clever space-saving additions like money clips or elasticated straps to hold folded bills instead of wide openings to lay your cash flat in.

From medical-grade elastic to hard-wearing carbon fiber and everything in between, minimalist wallets can be made from a variety of different materials. Depending on your budget and personal taste, you can choose from real leather, aluminum, or even elastic to keep your cards tidy.

Size and Weight

The size of most of the minimalist wallets in our selection tends to be not much bigger than the size of a credit card, and only deep enough to hold a pile of around 10 cards maximum. Made from lightweight fabrics, most of these little wallets are fractions of an ounce in weight.

Credit Card Slots

Some just offer a space in which to pile up your cards, while others will offer dedicated card-sized slots. Some may all be in 1 compartment, while others may be spread across both the external sides of the wallet to make access easier. Your wallet, your preference.

Hot Tip: We’ve also covered the best travel wallets and organizers , which are larger than the wallets mentioned below and ideal for storing multiple cards and documents.

RFID Protection

RFID — radio frequency identification — uses an electromagnetic field to identify and track tags containing digital information. This technology is used in the chips on our credit and debit cards, making it easy for us to pay using a chip and PIN machine or even contactless payments.

Unfortunately, the data from the tags on our cards, driver’s licenses, and ID cards can also be read by criminals known as “skimmers” who use devices called RFID scanners to pick up credit card numbers, expiration dates, and CVV codes from passers-by. To prevent your cards from being at risk, invest in a wallet that offers RFID protection.

Bottom Line: RFID-blocking wallets contain a layer or wrapping made from carbon fiber or metal that blocks the electromagnetic fields from reaching the chip in your cards. To ensure that your valuable RFID-embedded items are safe while you are on the move, they must be tucked inside the wallet.

What's the best AirTag wallet right now?

Our pick for the best AirTag wallet overall is the  Ridge Wallet , because it offers plenty of room for cards and cash in a stylish and customizable design. Keep reading to see how our other top AirTag wallets and accessories stack up and find the best option for your lifestyle.

The best AirTag wallets of 2024

Ridge wallet, best airtag wallet overall.

  • RFID-blocking
  • Relatively slim yet multi-functional
  • Minimalist design
  • Unique colors and designs
  • Must buy AirTag holder components as add-ons
  • Can become bulky for pockets when full
  • Certain finishes may scratch

The Ridge wallet is a slim RFID-blocking wallet designed to hold up to 12 cards. Cash can be stored via a cash strap or money clip on the outside of the wallet, and the brand offers three AirTag configurations for tracking: an AirTag holder designed to fit into the cash strap or replace the money clip for $25, or the AirTag carbon add-on holder that attaches outside any Ridge wallet for $40.

The Ridge offers durability and functionality while also providing top-notch security and smart capabilities. Although it is a bit pricey, it has a lifetime warranty to keep up with your daily use and a risk-free 99-day trial period. All things considered, a quality, traditional-leather-style wallet could easily run you over the $100 mark, too, which makes this long-term investment worth it, in my opinion.

I gifted this wallet to my Dad a year before using one myself, and I can confidently say it's a winner. Prior to gifting him the Ridge, he used several other wallets, including a traditional leather and titanium case style, but none of them fit his needs.

My Dad is a shove-everything-into-your-pockets-and-go kind of person, and no wallet could ever keep all his cards, cash, and receipts organized until the Ridge. The minimalist design helps ensure he can put what he really needs into his wallet and makes it easy to access cards and cash when he wants.

I initially thought the maneuvering to slide the cards in and out would be annoying, but after a little practice, he said it became second nature and is surprisingly easier than opening and removing cards or cash from a traditional wallet. I agree that there's a brief learning curve involved, but once you get it down, it's a non-issue.

The practicality, coupled with the RFID technology, numerous color and metal options, and the addable AirTag tracker, makes the Ridge nearly faultless. Although it can get a little chunky when it's full to the brim with cards (but alas, what wallet doesn't?). This is a great wallet for small handbags, concert or stadium bags, and going out on the town, too.

Current Ridge customers said on the website that they liked the wallet capacity, durability, design, and functionality of the Ridge wallet. The wallet features a 4.8/5 starts online, and 97% of customers said they'd recommend the Ridge wallet to a friend. Several customers said they were repeat purchasers, and that their wallets stood the test of time.

Journey LOC8 Tracking Wallet and Phone Stand

Best non-airtag tracking wallet.

  • Sleek design
  • High-quality
  • Multi-functional
  • No AirTag necessary
  • Pricier option
  • Takes time to get used to

If you're not dead set on using an AirTag wallet or AirTag accessory to track your wallet, it may be worth it to consider a MagSafe wallet equipped with location tracking. The Journey LOC8 is the finder wallet version of our pick for best overall MagSafe wallet, the Ezmo wallet (pictured above).

Journey's MagSafe wallet is the perfect balance of style and function with enough space to hold 5 cards. The wallet also doubles as a phone stand, so you can watch your favorite entertainment on the go or keep your phone screen visible at your desk. The stand has adjustable viewing angles in both portrait and landscape modes and features a protective lining to safeguard your cards' information with RFID-blocking technology while preventing your cards from becoming demagnetized.

The LOC8 takes all the great features of the Ezmo wallet one step further, offering location tracking -- no AirTag needed. It uses Apple's Find My technology for easy integration, is rechargeable, and comes with built-in speakers so you can easily ping the LOC8 wallet to find its location.

I tested the Ezmo version of the Journey wallet for several weeks during my commute from New Jersey to New York City, and I like it enough to confidently recommend the LOC8 with built-in tracking. I like the premium feel and how easy the wallet makes it to access my transit cards during my commute. I also like how the wallet provides enough space for 5 cards and folded cash. It's perfect for holding my debit card, work badge, and other incidentals like paper train tickets. The phone stand was nice, too. And although it's one of the pricier options for a MagSafe wallet, I think it's well worth the investment due to its multi-functionality and excellent quality, especially if you'll use your MagSafe wallet every day.

Current users on the Journey website said they liked the slim profile, smart design, larger card capacity, and sleek material -- so much so that the wallet has a 5/5 star rating online, with one customer noting that it "does it all really well."

Journey LOC8 tracking wallet and phone stand features:   Type:  MagSafe bifold | Multi-functional | RFID protection | Built-in lock to prevent card slippage | Water resistant | Built-in speaker | Apple Find My System compatible | Rechargeable |  Dimensions:  66 mm x 103 mm x 14 mm |  Card capacity:  Up to 5 cards

Current Amazon customers said they liked that the Spigen S wallet was more affordable, had a dedicated, built-in spot for an AirTag, and held both cash and cards. However, some experienced damage early on and didn't like the plastic material. Overall, customers said they were happy with the appearance and value of the wallet, but wished it had some improvements in material and performance.

It's an AirTag-compatible version of the brand's popular Parliament wallet, and it's slim enough to fit in your front or back pocket. However, it's slightly expensive and lacks color options.

Current Ekster wallet users on the Ekster website said they liked the high-quality construction, overall design, and easy function. One customer said they even upgraded to this AirTag wallet after losing their Parliament wallet on vacation, and another called it perfect. Which is the best AirTag wallet for you?

It isn't easy to choose the best AirTag wallet when there are so many options on the market. These expert recommendations may help you in the buying process so you can be sure to find the right wallet for your needs.

Factors to consider when choosing an AirTag wallet

If you're in the market for an AirTag wallet, you already know the marketplace is copious. Here's a few things to keep in mind while you search that may help you narrow down your options and find the right fit for you.

Capacity : Consider what you want to store in your wallet. How many cards? Cash? Any other incidentals like your work badge or transit passes? We'd recommend finding out your absolute bare minimum need for card capacity (maybe that's three cards or maybe it's ten) and factoring that into your search. You'll easily be able to cut a huge chunk of options out based on capacity alone.

Security : Many AirTag wallets provide RFID-blocking, which means that it blocks card scanners that can steal your information. If this is a top priority for you, you can drop many of the cheaper options, which often don't offer these capabilities.

Cost : The price of AirTag wallets can vary considerably, and like with any purchase, establishing a budget is key. While we've included a budget, mid-range, and expensive pick on this list, you need to decide for yourself what your magic number is. Keep in mind that your wallet is often an everyday essential that lasts for a number of years, so it may be worth it to set a higher budget. Plus, many quality traditional leather wallets often cost over $100, too.

Your needs: So you're here because you think you want an AirTag wallet. But maybe what you're actually looking for is a bluetooth tracker card to upgrade your favorite traditional wallet. Or maybe you you just want an AirTag card insert to do the same. Think about what you actually need right now and what makes the most sense for your lifestyle -- it may not be what you thought at first.

How did we choose these AirTag wallets?

We combined our expert research and analysis, hands-on testing for select products, and our extensive testing and knowledge of alternative bluetooth trackers to curate this list. We consider factors like lifestyle, construction, durability, tracking capabilities, and function while compiling these top picks, and made sure to provide options for those who aren't sure if an AirTag wallet is right for them. If we think a new product is worth your money, we'll update this list or write a spotlight review highlighting its best qualities and specifying who it's for.

Plus, we are routinely scouring the web for new products that are worthy of testing, following news on product rollouts and upgrades, and sourcing the best deals.

What is an AirTag?

An AirTag is a type of tracking device. You can affix it to an object, and the AirTag will then provide tracking for that item. Simply log into the Find My app to track your device and see an exact location. You can also ping your phone so it sounds like an alert, helping you to find it that much easier.

Can AirTags be used in a wallet?

Yes, AirTags can be used to track anything like keys, bags, purses, wallets, and more. There's lots of accessories on the market to seamlessly configure an AirTag to your needs, and likewise, many AirTag wallets are specially designed to hold an AirTag to upgrade your traditional wallet with location-tracking capabilities.

Are AirTag wallets the only tracking options out there?

No, by no means are AirTag wallets the only bluetooth tracking accessories on the market. You can equip and configure traditional wallets with tracking cards like the KeySmart Smart Card, or use other alternative trackers like Tile. And if you want to upgrade to a MagSafe wallet , some are available with built-in tracking configurations already installed, like the Journey LOC8 wallet .

Also: The best bluetooth trackers of 2024

What types of bluetooth tracking is available for my wallet?

There's a few different types of products and configurations that will help you track your wallet, no matter where you leave it. Here are the most common:

  • A wallet specially designed to house an AirTag tracker, either by design or with added attachments.
  • A bluetooth tracker card that uses Apple's Find My technology that can slide into an existing wallet like any other card.
  • A tracker card designed to hold an AirTag that can slide into an existing wallet like a card.
  • Wallets that are already enabled with their own bluetooth tracking systems and don't require an AirTag (these often use Apple's Find My technology).
  • MagSafe wallet options enabled with bluetooth tracking (which also likely use Apple's Find My technology).

Can I build my own custom AirTag?

While this may not be the conventional route, if you're interested in tinkering and building your own custom AirTag setup, you actually can. ZDNET's Adrian Kingsley-Hughes did himself in April 2023, and wrote up his own step-by-step guide that you can follow.

Also: I built a custom AirTag that Apple will hate me for. Here's how you can too

Do AirTags interfere with credit cards?

AirTags will not interfere with your debit or credit cards and they will not cause demagnetization. AirTags operate using Apple's Find My technology and a bluetooth connection, and the frequency does not disturb your cards.

What does RFID mean?

According to the  Department of Homeland Security , RFID refers to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. This technology uses radio waves to identify people or objects.

There are devices that can read information contained in a wireless device or "tag" from a distance without making any physical contact or requiring a line of sight -- for example, the chips in credit or debit cards. Wallets which feature RFID-blocking technology prevent these devices from accessing information stored in protected chips, which can help prevent your bank information from being compromised.

How far can I track my AirTag?

The beauty of an AirTag is that it can be tracked from anywhere. Your AirTag just needs to have be within range of a Bluetooth connection while near an Apple device. It does not even have to be your own phone, so as long as you are close to an Apple device, you can use AirTag technology to locate your wallet.

How can I find out if an AirTag is tracking me?

If you're an iPhone user, there's a few ways to recognize if an AirTag is tracking you. Your phone may alert you of an "AirTag found moving with you." This will happen if these things are true:

The AirTag is separated from its owner.

Your iPhone is awake.

It’s a good time to travel by air. Each month so far this year, airfares have been cheaper than the same month in 2023. Plus, passenger satisfaction is at an all-time high.

That’s according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) Travel Study 2023-2024, which sought to understand consumer sentiment toward U.S. airlines. This year’s study found that satisfaction rates have improved for the second consecutive year.

ACSI’s scores are calculated based on benchmarks such as ease of making reservations and checking in, cabin cleanliness, employee helpfulness and boarding experience. The results are based on responses from over 16,000 people surveyed via email between April 2023 and March 2024.

The report found that every major U.S. airline improved its score year over year except for one: United Airlines.

Here’s what you need to know about the best and worst U.S. airlines for customer satisfaction — and why flying has gotten relatively better across the board.

The best-rated U.S. airlines for satisfaction

ACSI’s study ranked nine major U.S. airlines on a scale of 0-100. Here's each airline’s customer satisfaction score, from highest to lowest:

Alaska Airlines performed quite well, ranking as the airline with the best customer satisfaction for the second straight year in ACSI’s survey.

Notably, Alaska also came out on top in NerdWallet’s annual analysis of the best airline and best airline rewards programs .

Unlike the rest of its peers, however, United Airlines' customer satisfaction score dropped year over year. Though United’s scores were the only ones to decrease, the airline isn’t the worst in terms of customer satisfaction. Frontier and Spirit, both budget airlines, still scored lower.

Why did United’s score drop?

Forrest Morgeson, a marketing professor at Michigan State University and director of research emeritus at the ACSI, said in an email that the drop in United customer satisfaction scores is due to the declining quality of the reservation system and low scores for in-flight service.

Morgeson also cited the growth in United’s basic economy passengers, which he said makes “for a less satisfying experience by design.” In 2023's fourth quarter, the airline reported its basic economy airfares recorded a substantial 20% revenue increase year over year.

While most airlines sell a basic economy option, offering fewer frills (e.g., usually a middle seat and the last boarding group) in exchange for a lower cost, United’s basic economy ranks among the worst.

In another customer satisfaction poll — this one the J.D. Power 2024 North America Airline Satisfaction Study — United scored the lowest of any full-service U.S. carrier in a ranking of basic economy offerings. The only U.S.-based carriers to score lower are Spirit and Frontier.

Why customer satisfaction has generally gotten better in 2024

Staffing levels have rebounded — and then some.

Morgeson said higher customer satisfaction scores for other airlines were largely driven by increases in airline staffing levels from pandemic lows.

“This resulted in big score jumps for staff-driven aspects of the customer experience, such as check-in and boarding, in-flight service and staff courtesy,” he said in an email.

Airline staffing numbers are even higher than even before the pandemic. In November 2023, U.S. airlines employed 814,190 workers, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. That’s almost 9% more than the 748,143 workers employed in November 2019.

Budget airlines are improving

Though they still generally performed poorly on customer satisfaction scores, budget airlines showed the biggest overall improvements. Spirit still ranks lowest overall in customer satisfaction of any airline, yet its score also saw the greatest increase. Frontier and Allegiant Air also saw big jumps.

Morgeson attributed the score increases to budget airlines’ value compared with full-service carriers.

“Customers are likely feeling more satisfied with their [budget airline ticket] purchase, particularly in light of legacy airlines’ additional fees,” he said.

Budget airlines notoriously charge high fees, but full-service carriers have recently piled on their own fees. In 2024, Southwest raised its EarlyBird check-in fees as high as an additional $99 per one-way airfare, depending on the flight (up from $25), and upgraded boarding fees as high as $149 per segment, depending on the flight (up from $80). As well, a slew of airlines raised their checked bag fees .

Still, budget airlines typically charge the highest fees, which can include upcharges for seat selection, checked bags and overhead carry-on bags. NerdWallet analyzed ancillary fees and found that a one-way fare on Frontier Airlines incurs, on average, $157 in additional fees. Spirit fees average $120 each way. Both figures are more than double the cost of other airlines’ average fees.

More arrivals are on-time

Airline reliability improvements also played a key role in this year’s higher customer satisfaction rates. According to data from the BTS, the average on-time arrival rate for U.S. airlines in 2023 was 78.2%, up slightly from 76.6% in 2022.

One standout budget airline, Allegiant, skyrocketed from its on-time arrivals rate of 63.4% in 2022 to 73.4% in 2023.

“Passengers noticed, because its on-time arrival score also skyrocketed in the ACSI Study,” Morgeson said.

How can air travel continue to improve?

The lowest scores across airlines continue to be seat comfort and quality of complimentary in-flight food and beverages. If budget airlines or United Airlines want to increase customer satisfaction, it might be as simple as offering a little more than a free bag of pretzels.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
