Zurich – Appenzell

Most tours of Switzerland begin in Zurich because the city has the largest and busiest airport. Travelers who are flying into Switzerland from overseas will most likely land at this airport, which makes it the perfect starting point for any Switzerland tour. 

Zurich is the most populous city in Switzerland and it’s considered the financial capital. The headquarters of all the major Swiss banks are right there in the city, but they’re not what you should be visiting while exploring the city. 

Instead, you’ll want to fill your itinerary with Zurich’s historic landmarks like Grossmunster, Fraumunster , the Opera House , Le Corbusier House , and many others. The bustling metropolis has enough content for a week’s stay, so you should do your best to really make the most of your time in the city. Don’t miss out on Lake Zurich either, especially if you’re traveling in the summer and want to cool down. 

The first leg of the grand tour of Switzerland takes you from Zurich to Appenzell, with optional stops in Schaffhausen and St. Gallen. Visit Schaffhausen to see Rhine Falls, Europe’s largest waterfall, and stop by St. Gallen to discover the Abbey of Saint Gall , one of the many UNESCO World Heritage Sites you will come across on this tour.

Appenzell – St. Moritz

Appenzell is a charming town near the Alpstein mountains. It is most famous for the Appenzell dog collar, which is the best souvenir you can take home from this town if you have a pet. 

The beautiful town of Appenzell is home to many museums, historic landmarks, and a gorgeous old town full of wooden houses. 

It’s also time to get your sturdy hiking boots and head to the mountains. Mountain summits are connected with the town by cable cars and inclined railways, and you can easily reach the tallest peaks in the area. Plan to visit the Wildkirchli caves, some of the area’s most famous attractions.  

There’s also the Aescher Guesthouse that you had to have seen on at least one postcard or book cover by now. The iconic house is built on the side of a mountain, and it’s one of the most famous landmarks in the entire country. You can visit the guesthouse and Wildkirchli during the same outing, for maximum time efficiency!

When you’ve explored enough of this town, get back in your car and head to St. Moritz. Optional stops along the way include Maienfeld, a small municipality in Graunbunden canton that’s famous for being the setting of the Heidi novel, and Zernez, the home of the only Swiss National Park . 

St. Moritz – Lugano

St. Moritz is a fancy resort town in the Alps. By fancy, I mean luxurious. And by luxurious, I mean expensive, glamorous, and catering to the rich and famous. The Alpine resort is a great destination for travelers with deeper pockets, who revel in the idea of relaxing in their hotel room hot tub while admiring panoramic views of the Alps. 

St. Moritz is all about glitz and glamour. The village is tucked away in the mountains, and yet its main pedestrian street is full of luxury shops like Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Dolce & Gabbana, and many others. That should give you a rough idea of who the town caters to the most. 

Nonetheless, it’s a fascinating little resort that’s worth visiting. Skip the high-end five-star hotels if you’re trying to do the grand tour of Switzerland on a tighter budget, and you’ll still be able to enjoy the place. If you happen to visit in the winter, you might catch a glimpse of the White Turf horse races or the winter polo on Lake St. Moritz , which are both pretty amazing to watch!

From the glamorous resort, head towards Lugano, a beautiful lakeshore town close to the border with Italy. Some of the places worth checking out along the way are Bellinzona with its lovely castles, and Locarno, the town that’s almost always sunny. 

Lugano – Zermatt

Lugano is situated on the shore of Lake Lugano, and it’s one of the prettiest places in southern Switzerland. Boasting beautiful parks, a vast beach complex, and a charming old town, the lovely Lugano is a perfect stop on the grand tour route of Switzerland. 

See the old church, walk the olive grove trail, and take the cable car to Mount San Salvatore for stunning panoramic views. While in the area, you can also visit Gandria, a small village on the border with Italy best known for the Customs Museum. 

The Swissminiatur Park is also very close to Lugano, and it’s a great stop along the Switzerland route. You can see miniature versions of the landmarks you’ve already visited and those you’ll visit soon enough! 

When you feel like you’ve seen everything in Lugano, head towards Zermatt. The village lies at the foot of the Matterhorn, which means scenic views for days. Andermatt is a worthy detour, just before the iconic Furka Pass road.

Zermatt – Lausanne

The lovely village of Zermatt is best known for scenic Matterhorn views and easy access to the challenging peak. The village has long been a popular destination among mountaineers who want to attempt to conquer this peak, and you can find plenty of landmarks and attractions dedicated to those brave people. 

The Matterhorn Museum tells the story of the first ascent on the summit, while the Mountaineer’s Cemetery is a reminder that many of those men and women were unsuccessful.

The appeal of Zermatt also lies in the fact that it’s surrounded by breathtaking nature. With many cable cars and lifts to take you to the surrounding mountains and many more hiking trails, you could spend weeks, if not months, just hiking in the area and exploring the surroundings.

Some of the most popular natural attractions in the area are:

Lausanne is the next stop on your grand tour of Switzerland, so unless you’ve decided to just move to Zermatt, it’s time to continue exploring. If you still have plenty of time, Leukerbad and Montreux are detour-worthy stops. 

Lausanne – Neuchâtel

Situated on the northern shore of Lake Geneva, Lausanne is one of the biggest cities in Switzerland. It’s home to the Olympic Museum , beautiful parks, a sprawling botanical garden, several historic landmarks, and tall towers offering mesmerizing Lake Geneva views. 

The city is also home to many art museums, so you can have a great time here if you genuinely enjoy touring museums and discovering art. On top of that, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lavaux terraced vineyards is also close to the city, and it’s worth checking out if you’re into the occasional vineyard tour. 

Also, don’t miss out on Morges – the lovely town is just 10 minutes away from Lausanne by train, and it’s worth an afternoon trip. It’s a charming place with a gorgeous old town that will forever hold a special place in your heart. 

Neuchâtel is the next stop on this scenic route along the northern shore of Lake Geneva, but it’s not the first place you should visit Lausanne. The Yverdon-Les-Bains spa resort is a great place to rest and recharge, while the Creux du Van ravine promises to enchant you with its mesmerizing views and scenic hiking trails. 

Neuchâtel – Bern

Neuchâtel is the largest city on Lake Neuchâtel, the biggest lake that entirely belongs to Switzerland. It’s a charming city with many museums, a beautiful old town, and spectacular lake views. 

The city offers something to everyone, precisely what makes it such a popular destination. If you enjoy exploring the great outdoors, you can head to the Chasseral Regional Park, maybe a 30-minute drive from Neuchatel. The park boasts a vast network of hiking trails, most offering stunning panoramic views. 

Neuchatel is also an excellent destination for the other type of traveler who prefers to stay at a business hotel and tour museums. Neuchatel is known for its many cultural attractions, including theaters, museums, and the fabulous Neuchâtel Castle. 

Bern is the next stop on the Grand Tour of Switzerland, but don’t head there straight from Neuchatel. Make time for Murten first – the medieval town is stunning and well worth the short detour. 

Bern – Zurich

Bern is the de facto capital of the country and one of the most populated cities in Switzerland. It’s worth a visit, especially if you enjoy exploring big cities that are full of content for visitors. It’s also some 45 minutes away from Neuchatel by car. 

Bern is known for many different things , but the city’s many fountains are perhaps the most interesting to all newcomers. There are 100+ fountains throughout the city, and the most famous ones are all situated in the heart of the city. Bern is also known for bears, and you can see the majestic animals going about their day if you visit the Bern Bear Park , which is just outside the old town. 

Museums, historic buildings, botanical gardens, and beautiful parks are all waiting to be explored in Bern. But, don’t limit yourself to the big city – Bern is close to some spectacular destinations, all of which are great for fun day trips.

Take at least one day to make a day trip to Lake Thun. It’s a beautiful lake with lots of things to do and see in the area, including the spectacular Thun Castle . Also, the scenic train ride from Bern to Thun allows you to discover even more enchanting landscapes, and it’s one of the highlights of the visit. 

While traveling from Bern to Zurich, stop by Lucerne if you have enough time. The city is gorgeous with sprawling lake views, countless historical landmarks, and some truly remarkable bridges. 

Grand Tour of Switzerland: Alternative Itineraries

Geneva – neuchâtel.

Instead of visiting Lausanne, head straight to Geneva from Zermatt. The city is certainly worth a visit if you’ve never been there before, and it has enough content to keep you occupied for days, if not weeks. 

Just keep in mind that Geneva and Lausanne are two wildly different cities. Geneva is home to many international organizations, high-end restaurants, and expensive shops. It’s got plenty of tourist attractions, but it’s better suited for travelers who want to experience the luxurious life in Switzerland. 

Lausanne, on the other hand, is much smaller and quieter. It’s not quite as fast-paced as Geneva, and it’s the better destination for travelers who enjoy quainter towns with impeccable natural surroundings. 

Neuchâtel – Basel 

Basel is known as Switzerland’s cultural capital and a better destination than Bern for travelers who genuinely enjoy learning about foreign cultures. The city is best known for its many unique museums, which you won’t find anywhere else in the country. 

Basel is situated right on the border with France and Germany; the influence of those countries is evident in the city’s attractions and cuisine. The location also allows for easy day trips to border towns in France and Germany, which makes it ideal for travelers who want to make the most of this road trip through Switzerland.  

Switzerland Road Trip Packing List

Not sure what you should bring on the grand tour of Switzerland? This packing list includes almost all the essentials – I always forget something when I’m packing, so I’m pretty sure I also forgot to add things to this list. But don’t worry – whatever you forget to bring on the trip, you can easily buy at the destination. 

Also, I’ve tried to keep this list universal so you can adapt it to your road trip. Consider when you’re traveling, and pack clothes according to the weather forecast. 

• Vehicle equipment (warning triangle, spare tire, winter chains in winter, etc.)
• First aid kit
• Season-appropriate accessories (sunglasses, hat, scarf, gloves, etc.)
• 7 (season-appropriate) tops – t-shirts, hoodies, sweaters
• 2 jackets (one lightweight jacket for warmer weather and one waterproof jacket)
• 2 pairs of shoes (one for casual walking and another for hiking)
• Two pairs of pants (jeans or slacks, plus leggings or a tracksuit)
• 2 pajamas or comfy clothes to wear at home
• Clean underwear for at least half the days of the road trip (plus a dozen extra pairs in case you soil yourself every other day), two bras, undershirts, socks
• Devices (laptop, smartphone, tablet, chargers)
• Bathing suit (even in the winter!)
• Toiletries – soap, body wash, shampoo, SPF, face creams and serums, razor, shaving foam, makeup, perfume, etc. 

Keep your suitcase light – I’ve learned over the years that overpacking is completely pointless. But what if I need it? Chances are you won’t, especially if you haven’t worn something for months at home. Also, you can buy whatever you need, and you will have access to washing machines and laundromats – a laundry day in the middle of your road trip should ensure you have plenty of clean clothes. 

Essential Tips For A Switzerland Road Trip

Don’t overpack. It’s just not worth it and it will be easier to get around with lighter luggage, especially as the road trip goes on and the souvenirs start to pile up. 

Get some travel pass. The Swiss Travel Pass is great if you want to ride trains, but the half-fare card is the better option if you mostly get around by car. It gets you discounted access to all the most popular city attractions plus many other benefits, so it’s worth it. 

Don’t be afraid to step off the beaten path. Switzerland is known for its spectacular nature, and most of its prettiest attractions are hidden off the beaten path. 

Travel by train on day trips. It’s usually quicker than driving, train tickets are cheaper than parking, and you can enjoy the views without stressing about the drive.

The last leg of this stage of the Grand Tour of Switzerland takes you to Appenzell. In an area known for its traditional rural traditions, this impossibly quaint town has fairy tale allure.

Into the great outdoors? This region has lots of rewarding hiking trails to ramble in summer. Come winter, the hills are a paradise for cross-country skiers, with 200km of trails extending through the canton.

This stunning segment of the road trip boasts more records than any other stage of the Grand Tour of Switzerland. These include Switzerland’s oldest city, and its only world monument,  Salginatobel Bridge .

The power of nature is uniquely presented at the Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona UNESCO Heritage Site. Geological formations at this dramatic spot show the collision of the African and European continents. 

Meanwhile, if you’re travelling in Switzerland with children, you won’t want to miss exploring Heidi Village. Located in the Graubünden region, little ones will love following the idyllic Heidi Trail to the Heidi House. 

More charm can be found in Graubünden’s cantonal capital, Chur. Chockful of secret courtyards and cobbled alleys, Chur is Switzerland’s oldest town.

Cable car access to Brambrüesch mountain means Chur also has a host of hiking and biking trails on the doorstep.

If you fancy sampling some of Switzerland’s best outdoor experiences , you’ll want to explore the Swiss National Park in the Engadine.

For excellent hiking and scenery that’s inspired painters and poets for centuries, take a trip to Muottas Muragl mountain. Here the Panoramic Path traverses alpine hills and meadows, with views to glitzy St Moritz.

Meandering down from Alpine St. Moritz to Italianate Lugano, this stage of the Grand Tour of Switzerland has the most significant change in altitude and scenery.

With 350km of pistes, and no shortage of fine places to sleep, eat and make merry, it’s little wonder that St Moritz is esteemed as one of the world’s best ski resorts. 

Interestingly, though, thanks to its mineral springs St Moritz first came to fame as a summer spa town. And, to this day, there’s plenty to keep visitors happy in summer — from hiking and biking, to sailing, kitesurfing and Alpine golf.

From St Moritz, nature-lovers will want to continue their road trip to  Switzerland’s largest regional nature park, Parc Ela .

This stunning UNESCO Heritage Site is traversed by the Rhätische Bahn (Rhaetian Railway). One of the world's most scenic rail networks, this is travelled by the  Glacier Express  that runs from St Moritz and Davos to Chur. It then winds west over the Alps to  Zermatt .

To the northeast of Parc Ela, the Viamala gorge presents one of the best grand tour of Switzerland photo spots. Carved into rocks by glacial ice, the sheer 300m cliffs are a staggering sight. 

From here, the road trip route wends south to the Italianate-speaking canton of Ticino .

4th stage — Lugano to Zermatt

While you could explore this stage’s top sites on the way down, we’ll kick off in Lugano. This sits at the southern end of a segment that takes in an extraordinary number of bends. These comes courtesy of the Tremola road that snakes from Airolo. 

Basking in a sun-drenched bay of Lake Lugano, Lugano is framed by wooded hills and fronted by palm tree-lined promenades. It's also criss-crossed by winding lanes packed with places to enjoy some of the best eating and drinking in Switzerland . 

To the north, Locarno sits on the curve of a Lake Maggiore bay, with the surrounding valleys offering some of the most beautiful scenery in the Ticino canton.

Other highlights along the Grand Tour of Switzerland route that runs through Ticino include Ascona and Bellinzona, the latter of which has a trio of UNESCO castles. 

From Airola, the serpentine Tremola extends to Andermatt in Central Switzerland via the Gotthard Pass, which divides northern Europe from the south.

While journeying south towards Zermatt — the end point of this diverse stage of the Grand Tour of Switzerland — don’t miss seeing the Furka Pass on a steam train excursion. Enjoying fun train trips are among the best things to do in Switzerland with kids.

Alternatively, if you fancy finding serenity in truly sublime surroundings, the lesser-visited Goms area of the upper Rhône valley comes highly recommended.    

Presided over by (arguably) the world’s most famous mountain, the majestic Matterhorn, Zermatt is one of the world’s prettiest vacation villages.

Zermatt also offers easy access to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, which includes 360 kilometres of pistes, over 400 kilometres of hiking trails, and 54 mountain railways. As such, it's a place to unleash your inner adventurer.

• Best for Matterhorn views:  Kulmhotel Gornergrat . The highest hotel in the Alps is uniquely atmospheric.
• Best for glamour:  Grand Hotel Zermatterhof . One of the finest hotels in the country.

The route to Lausanne will take you through sunny Sion. Capital of the canton of Valais , Sion is home to a charming old quarter and two ancient castles. 

Another major attraction along this part of the road trip is the adventure sport hotspot of Les Diablerets. This high profile ski resort village is located in the canton of Vaud, much of which sits on the northern shore of Lake Geneva .

Meanwhile, before reaching Lausanne at the end of this stage of your road trip, you'll want to visit enchanting Château de Chillon, and upmarket Montreux.

Taking in Switzerland’s renowned watchmaking region, this stage kicks off in Lausanne , a city that’s lively, cultured and scenic with it. Think steep wooden hills tiered above a lake, an alluring Old Town, with the Cathédrale Notre-Dame rivalling its Parisian counterpart. 

Lausanne’s many cultural highlights include the Olympic Museum , the  Collection de l’Art Brut, and the  Musée Historique . Then there’s the Ouchy waterfront to wander. This elegant beauty spot plays host to free festivals around the year. 

If you plan to linger in Lausanne, the train des vignes runs through the terraced vineyards of Lavaux, offering views of the Savoy and Valais Alps from above Lake Geneva.

The road trip route from Lausanne leads to  Jura Vaudois Nature Park — a magical landscape of forests, marshland and meadows. It also takes in the breath-taking  Creux du Van rock formation, around which a nature reserve protects animals and arctic-alpine flora. 

Southeast of Creux du Van, the route leads to Neuchâtel, home to Switzerland’s largest archaeological museum . With a charming lakefront promenade and enchanting 12th- century core, Neuchâtel inspires wonder as it transports visitors back in time.

From Lake Neuchâtel, the wateriest leg of the Grand Tour of Switzerland road trip leads you through the magnificent lake region. 

Along the way you won’t want to miss spending time in Fribourg. With its medieval Old Town set on a forested peninsula, this is one of Switzerland’s most magical spots.

Largely thanks to its fairy-tale castle, Gruyères is also a place of enchantment, with a strong tradition of cheese and chocolate-making.

As you route through the Bernese Oberland , opportunities for adventure present themselves. Gstaad, for example, is a mecca for celebrity winter-sports aficionados. Meanwhile, friendly outlying villages offer affordable family-oriented accommodation. 

Then there’s the mighty Jungfraujoch. The Jungfrau railway has been taking travellers to the highest station in Europe for over a century. This also happens to be one of the top grand tour of Switzerland photo spots. 

The same is true of the Lauterbrunnen valley, where a whopping 72 waterfalls rush from vertical cliff faces. 

Other highlights along the Bernese Oberland road trip route include Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Taking a paddle steamer cruise is the perfect way to soak up their splendour.

On arrival in Bern , take an evening stroll around its UNESCO-protected Old Town to view the Zytglogge clock-tower, and find an atmospheric dinner spot. 

Of all Swiss cities, Bern is arguably the most immediately charming. Tucked into a peninsula of the River Aare and surrounded by wooded hills, the views over its Old Town roofs are spectacular. 

Alongside exploring the Old Town and Münster cathedral , art-lovers will want to visit Zentrum Paul Klee . To the east,  Bären Park  (Bear Park) is another Bern highlight. Bears have lived in a pit at this hilly beauty spot for centuries, with three of them currently residing in a new park.

Further along this stage, you’ll want to stop off in Lucerne’s wondrous Wild West. Namely, the  UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch  — an unspoilt, romantic reserve of Alpine pastures, moorland and karst landscapes.

Lucerne itself is Switzerland’s geographical and spiritual heart— steeped in history, and a gateway to Central Switzerland . Lucerne is also the ultimate slow travel destination .

From the city’s medieval squares, ancient guildhalls, and lakeshore, it’s easy to explore Lucerne’s magnificent regional mountains – the Pilatus and Rigi — en route to Zürich. And so our Grand Tour of Switzerland comes full circle.

One of the beauties of taking the Grand Tour of Switzerland is that it’s a circuit. This means there’s flexibility around where you start your road trip of a lifetime , with awe-inspiring access road trip routes to follow, too. 

You could choose to begin your Grand Tour of Switzerland in Geneva . Compact and cosmopolitan, the iconic Jet d’Eau fountain sits at the city's heart.

Our tip — explore Geneva's Italianate Carouge area for innovative artists’ workshops and excellent cafés. 

From Geneva, the route continues to Nyon, with its historic Old Town and easy-access to walking through wine country. It then leads to Saint-George and Neuchatal.

Alternatively, you could start your Grand Tour of Switzerland in Basel and work your way down to Neuchatal. 

Located on the Rhine, Basel boasts around 40 museums. It also has masses of medieval charm, with two Old Town squares and countless leafy courtyards overlooked by the majestic Münster cathedral.

If you’re keen to explore Switzerland’s Ticino region, consider kicking off your Grand Tour of Switzerland in Chiasso, which lies on the southern border with Italy. 

After exploring the town’s museums and taking a trip to the breath-taking Breggia Gorges, the route winds to Lugano, Locarno and Bellinzona.

While it’s nigh impossible to pick the best photo spots on the Grand Tour of Switzerland, here are a few of our favourites.

• Best for epic nature: head to the Rhine Falls to capture the cascading, crashing waters of Europe’s largest waterfall backed by a fairy tale castle. Magic. 
• Best for adventurers: head to the  Gotthard Pass along the Tremola to snap snaking hairpin bends. 
• Best for culture vultures: Bellinzona’s Montebello Castle  is a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers mighty fine views of the region.

• Best for winter wonderland fans: it goes without saying that the majestic Matterhorn offers countless opportunities to take sensational scenic shots.
• Best for bookworms: fans of children’s literature (and rustic charm) will take inspiration from their photos of Heidi House .

If you’re considering going on a Grand Tour of Switzerland road trip, you’ll want to arm yourself with rules and regulations of the road. 

Switzerland’s minimum driving age is 18 and third-party insurance is compulsory. It’s also compulsory to carry a red warning triangle, and the vehicle registration documents.  

If you plan to drive on Swiss motorways, you must stick a vignette inside your windscreen. Buy it from the customs officials when you first cross the border, or at post offices and petrol stations. 

Switzerland and Liechtenstein drive on the right, seatbelts are compulsory for all, and penalties for drink driving are tough. One glass of beer has you on or over the limit. 

Speed limits are 120kph (75mph) on motorways, 80kph (50mph) on main roads, 50kph (30mph) in urban areas, and 30kph (18mph) or less on residential streets. There are dozens of cameras, radars and laser traps to catch speeders, with spot fines levied.

At junctions, yellow diamonds painted on the road show who has priority. If in doubt, let trams and buses go first, and give way to traffic coming from your right. On gradients, vehicles heading uphill have priority over those coming down. 

If you hear a loud horn or klaxon sounding on country lanes or twisting mountain roads, it means a postbus is approaching. This always has priority.

In winter, signs indicate where snow-chains are necessary — practise fitting and removing them beforehand.

The Grand Tour of Switzerland | 14 day Switzerland itinerary by car

It’s one of Europe’s most scenic countries with towering mountain peaks, sparkling lakes and lush green fields and a 14 day Switzerland itinerary is the best way to discover this gorgeous country by car.

If you’d love to explore everything from modern cities to charming alpine villages at your own pace then a Switzerland road trip is perfect for you.

Choosing which places to visit and which ones to miss on your Switzerland vacation can be difficult so, realising that their country has so much to offer visitors, Switzerland Tourism launched the Grand Tour of Switzerland.

The Grand Tour is a scenic route made up of 25 different sections (or legs), which highlights the best of Switzerland.  In most cases it is possible to cover more than one leg each day.

Covering around 1,600 kilometres, the Grand Tour takes in 44 top attractions – eleven of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites – two biospheres, five mountain passes that are 2000 metres above sea level and 22 lakes, along the route.

Below you’ll find a suggested 14-day itinerary based on the official Grand Tour of Switzerland route but keep reading for my own two week itinerary for touring Switzerland by car.

Whilst the Grand Tour route includes visits to Switzerland’s beautiful cities including Zurich, Luzern, Basel, Geneva and Bern (amongst others), for me the real delight in the scenic itinerary is the chance to enjoy some of the best mountain scenery and views in the world.

Grand Tour of Switzerland Info

📍 The official Grand Tour route is signposted with distinctive signs to help you stay on track.

📍 Numerous photo points have been highlighted at the most picturesque locations along the route. Special Grand Tour ‘photo frames’ help you to pinpoint the most photogenic viewing points.

📍 The core route can be completed in seven days with at least five hours’ driving each day.  It is recommended that you take longer – as we have suggested in the itinerary below – and allow more time for detours and visiting places of interest.

The Grand Tour of Switzerland 14-day itinerary

The following itinerary allows for travel at a relatively relaxed pace and takes two weeks to cover the entire Grand Tour route. 

Should you be short on time, by skipping the days allotted for sightseeing in Bern, Lucerne, Zurich and Lake Geneva, you could reduce the route to a 10-day Switzerland itinerary.

Suggested two week itinerary for the Grand Tour of Switzerland

The following itinerary follows the recommended route of the Grand Tour of Switzerland and covers a large part of the country. However it only briefly visits the Jungfrau Region, one of Switzerland’s most popular holiday destinations, so we have provided an alternative, more detailed, itinerary – with a longer stay in the region – later in this guide.

We have included details below of which ‘leg’ of the official Grand Tour each day’s itinerary refers to.

Alternative 14 day Switzerland itinerary for road trippers

If you are planning to explore Switzerland by car but don’t necessarily want to follow the exact Grand Tour of Switzerland route, the following itinerary is for you.

This two-week Switzerland itinerary includes visits to major cities and smaller towns, mountain and lakeside locations and some of the country’s most popular attractions. 

There are full days in each location (except Basel) to allow you to explore each destination in more depth.

Itinerary summary: Geneva > Zermatt > Ascona > Lucerne > Interlaken > Bern > Basel > Zurich

Itinerary DAY 1 | Geneva

Welcome to Switzerland – it’s time to get your Switzerland road trip underway!

Geneva’s location on the shores of the lake of the same name means it is the perfect spot for relaxing but there are plenty of sights and attractions to visit, too.

Most visitors head straight for the Jardin Anglais (English garden) located beside the lake to admire the l’horloge fleurie (flower clock) which was created in 1955 to commemorate Geneva’s watchmakers.  

It’s at the English garden that you’ll probably get your first glimpse of the Jet d’Eau , the city’s emblem.  This fountain spurts a huge jet of water 140 metres above the lake, so it’s hard to miss.

Allow some time to stroll around the lake, (called Lac Leman in French), or even relax onboard a paddlesteamer as it chugs its way across the water.

Other attractions in Geneva worth a visit include the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the United Nations, and its surrounding park; the Reformation Wall; and the Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum.

For fabulous views of the city and lake, climb the 175 steps of St. Peter’s Cathedral.

Itinerary DAY 2 | Geneva

Having explored the major sights in Geneva city, it’s time to see more of the lake.  There are plenty of lovely towns and villages dotted along the northern shore of the lake including Nyon, Rolle, St. Saphorin, Lausanne and Montreux ( read more about this lovely town here ).

After a leisurely drive around the lake, be sure to visit Chateau de Chillon near Montreux, a turreted Medieval castle that has served as a fort, a summer residence for the Counts of Savoy, and a prison!

Alternatively, take a drive through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Lavaux vineyards for stunning views from the terraced vineyards over Lake Geneva.

Itinerary DAY 3 | Geneva to Zermatt

Distance: 232 km / 144 m

Today’s journey to Zermatt should take around three hours if you don’t stop but I suggest you take a break at Martigny.  Here you can visit the 13th century fortress Tour de la Batiaz , the Roman amphitheatre or enjoy a ride around the city aboard the tourist train.

After your break, it’s time to head to the beautiful alpine town of Zermatt. At Visp, the road starts climbing and you’ll be winding your way up the mountain until you reach the village of Tasch.

Zermatt is a car-free town so all vehicles must be parked in one of the parking garages in Tasch. It’s then just a short shuttle train ride to Zermatt.  The underground car park adjoining the railway station is the most convenient place to leave your car. 

Parking costs CHF 16 per day (24 hours) and shuttle trains from Tasch to Zermatt (and vice versa) run every 25 to 30 minutes – price CHF 17 return per adult.  Tickets can be purchased from the machines in the station (English language option available) using a credit card.

After checking in to your hotel, spend the rest of the day exploring Zermatt and admiring the views of the stunning Matterhorn.

Itinerary DAY 4 | Zermatt

Spend the day getting up close and personal with the Matterhorn.  There are three ways to experience this amazing peak at closer range – either catch the train to Gornergrat or take a funicular and cable car to Rohorn for front on views, or take a cable car ride to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise at the peak of the Kleine Matterhorn for stunning 360 degree views. 

The Gornergratbahn is a rack railway that winds its way up from Zermatt to Gornergrat (3089 metres above sea level) where the Matterhorn sits right in front of you.  Trains depart every 30 minutes from the Gornergrat station, opposite the main railway station in Zermatt, and the journey takes half an hour.

Alternatively, jump aboard a cable car for a spectacular ride to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (3883 m.).  There’s plenty to do here, including summer skiing on the glacier and you’re so close to the majestic Matterhorn you’ll almost be able to reach out and touch it.

For Insta-worthy photos of the Matterhorn, hop aboard a funicular and then two connecting cable cars to Rothorn (3104 m.).

At the summit there are numerous things to do including mountain cart and kick bike hire, paragliding and, of course, hiking.

Rothorn can only be reached from May to October but there are frequent funicular and cable car services during this period.

After your day’s sightseeing, head back to Zermatt for some retail therapy or treat yourself to a bit of relaxation in one of the many spas and wellness centers in town.

Itinerary DAY 5 | Zermatt to Ascona

Distance: 148 km / 91 m

Today we’re off to another popular Swiss holiday resort but this time it’s one with an Italian flavour.  During today’s drive, which should take around three hours, you’ll cross into Italy for part of the trip before re-entering Switzerland.

Tip: Make sure you keep your passport handy in case you are asked to present it at the border.

Ascona is situated on Lake Maggiore, the northern tip of which lies in Switzerland.  Italian is the main language spoken here and the architecture has a strong Mediterranean influence.  The climate, too, resembles the Mediterranean and this part of Switzerland is said to be the sunniest in the country.

Itinerary DAY 6 | Ascona

There are plenty of ways to amuse yourself today. ( You can find plenty of options in this article .) Why not enjoy a lake cruise to another of the lakeside towns or to the Brissago islands?

Or wander the streets of Ascona’s pretty Old Town where you’ll find plenty of boutiques and galleries lining the narrow cobbled streets.  Many of the buildings date back to the 14th Century.

If it’s too hard to make a decision, head to the lakefront and enjoy a cold drink or a coffee whilst you take in the gorgeous views.

Itinerary DAY 7 | Ascona to Lucerne

Distance: 170 km / 105 m

It’s only a two hour drive to Lucerne this morning so you might like to stop on the way at Bellinzona, a fortress town built in the Middle Ages. 

Three castles remain in Bellinzona today – Castelgrande, Montebello and Sasso Corbano – and together they have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Castelgrande is the most impressive with its crenellated walls connecting two square towers.

Allow time to explore Lucerne’s Old Town this afternoon.  After checking out the pretty frescoed buildings along the cobblestone streets, the Chapel Bridge should be your next stop.

Other sites worth visiting include the Jesuit Church and the Dying Lion statue.

Itinerary DAY 8 | Lucerne

What a choice you have today!  There are numerous mountain excursions available from Lucerne including trips to Mt. Pilatus, Mt. Titlis and Mt. Rigi .  

Titlis boasts the world’s first rotating cable car or you can ride on the world’s steepest cog railway to reach Mt. Pilatus.

Alternatively you could enjoy a lake cruise or spend a few hours at the fascinating Swiss Transport Museum which houses a huge collection of trains, planes, automobiles and ships.  There’s also an IMAX theatre and heaps of interactive displays, as well as a Chocolate Adventure museum.

Itinerary DAY 9 | Lucerne to Interlaken

Distance: 72 km / 44 m

Your Switzerland road trip continues today with a short drive but the scenery will blow you away. 

Allow plenty of time for photo stops as you pass the pretty village of Lungern and drive over the Brunig Pass.There’s a great lookout point at the top of the Pass with room to park off the road.

Further along, you’ll drive along the shore of Lake Brienz.  The main motorway is the fastest route into Interlaken but why not take a detour into Iseltwald and follow the smaller road by the lake to Bonigen? You’re then just a couple of kilometres from Interlaken.

A great way to appreciate Interlaken’s location is to take the funicular to Harder Kulm.  The station is just a few minutes’ walk from the Interlaken Ost railway station in the town centre and the funicular runs every 30 minutes.

At the top you’ll see that Interlaken is nestled between two lakes – Lake Brienz and Lake Thun – and surrounded by alpine peaks.  The Two Lakes Bridge is the perfect spot from which to appreciate nature’s beauty.

Itinerary DAY 10 | Interlaken

One of Switzerland’s most scenic train rides is right on your doorstep so if you’ve ever dreamt of visiting the Jungfraujoch, today’s the day.  With a journey time of around two hours, you’re advised to set off early to get the most out of your day.

After a scenic train ride, the last thirty minutes of the trip is through a tunnel carved inside the mountain before you emerge at what is known as the Top of Europe. (Alternatively, you can catch a cable car for part of the journey, which reduces the travel time – more info > in this guide .)

There are plenty of activities available at the summit including skiing, sledding and tobogganing in the Snow Fun Park (during summer only). You should also visit the Ice Palace and the Sphinx Observatory which are open year round.

If you don’t fancy a full day excursion, an excursion to the Schilthorn is another great option.  Drive to Stechelberg, just past Lauterbrunnen (about twenty minutes from Interlaken) and then take the cable car via Murren to Schilthorn.

The 360° views you get from up here are simply amazing!  The Schilthorn is also where the James Bond movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was filmed sixty years ago, and the Bond Museum is an interactive and fun display of Bond memorabilia. > Click here to check ticket prices  

Tip: The cable car stops between Murren and Schilthorn at Birg.  Be sure to disembark and check out the Thrill Walk and the Skywalk Platform – if you’re brave enough!

Itinerary DAY 11 | Interlaken to Bern

Distance: 57 km / 35 m

It’s less than an hour’s drive to the Swiss capital, Bern, so you’ll have plenty of time to see the city’s main attractions, which are all close to the Old Town.

Sites to tick off include the Zytglogge (clock tower), Albert Einstein’s house – he developed the theory of relativity here, the Berner Munster (cathedral) and the Laubengange, a series of covered arcades that stretch for nearly six kilometres around the Old Town.

Cross the Nydegg bridge over the River Aare to Barengraben , a specially-designed park alongside the river that is home to Pyrenean brown bears, Bern’s symbol.

Heading back into the Old Town you’ll find plenty of places to sit and enjoy the atmosphere in this friendly, vibrant city.

Itinerary DAY 12 | Bern to Basel

Distance: 123 km / 76 m

Today’s drive should only take an hour so you’ll have plenty of time to have a good look around Basel.  The city, which is close to both France and Germany, is situated on the Rhine River.

Basel’s medieval Old Town sits on the south bank of the Rhine and it’s here you will find the Romanesque-Gothic Munster (cathedral), the brightly painted Rathaus (town hall) and Marktplatz , where a busy market is held every weekday morning.

There are plenty of ancient alleyways and modern shopping streets to explore, too, as well as some wonderful gourmet restaurants in Basel .

Itinerary DAY 13 | Basel to Zurich

Distance: Varies according to which route you choose

Although you’re probably keen to reach the lively Swiss city of Zurich, why not stop enroute at Baden, one of Switzerland’s oldest health resorts?

Take some time out to immerse yourself in the healing waters of Baden’s spa centre which are rich in sulphur before getting back behind the wheel and continuing on your way.

The water theme continues at Rhine Falls, just outside of Schaffhausen, and this makes a great detour should you wish to see Europe’s largest waterfalls.

From both Baden and Schaffhausen it’s only a short drive to Zurich giving you just enough time to decide how you’ll spend your time in the city.

A city tour is a good way to get your bearings and get a quick lesson in Zurich’s history at the same time but if you’d rather do your own thing, grab a city map from your hotel or the Tourist Office and start exploring on foot.

Itinerary DAY 14 | Zurich

It’s the final day of your Switzerland itinerary and whilst you probably won’t need your car today, there’s still plenty to see and do.

Highlights of Zurich include the Old Town with the Fraumunster and St. Peter’s Kirche (church), the upmarket shopping street Bahnhofstrasse, Limmatquai, and the Grossmunster cathedral.

For great views of the city, head to Lindenhof across the river from the Old Town or take the cable car to Uetliberg, Zurich’s own mountain.

Be sure to wander down to Quaibrucke (bridge) where the Limmat flows into Lake Zurich.  Not only do you get fantastic views of the many bridges spanning the river but this is also the place to hop aboard a boat for a pleasant lake cruise.

Before you call it a day, head to Zeughauskeller , a former weapons warehouse that is now home to a popular restaurant serving traditional Swiss meals.  

The house specialty, Zürcher Art schnitzel, a pan-fried veal schnitzel with creamy mushroom sauce, is delicious! It’s the perfect way to end your Swiss vacation.

Final Thoughts

This 14-day Switzerland itinerary covers a good part of the country without requiring long travel distances.  It provides the opportunity to explore cities, holiday towns and mountain resorts at a leisurely pace with plenty of jaw-dropping scenery along the way.

📍 Before you set off on your road trip, be aware that Switzerland law requires that all vehicles travelling on motorways have a toll sticker (called a vignette) attached to the windshield. 

📍 If your rental car does not have a Swiss vignette, you can purchase one from any gas station for CHF 40 (valid for 12 months).

📍 The maximum speed permitted on Switzerland’s motorways is 120 kilometres per hour.

Day 1: arrival in switzerland.

Individual arrival in Zurich. Time at leisure to explore the vibrant city with its unique mix of attractions on your own. Overnight in Zurich.

Day 2: Zurich – St. Gallen (approx. 150 km)

Drive to St. Gallen with a stopover at the Rhine Falls, mainland Europe’s largest waterfalls. St. Gallen’s historic Abbey precinct with the cathedral and Abbey Library has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage and belongs to the top attractions along the Grand Tour of Switzerland. Overnight in St. Gallen.

Day 3: St. Gallen – Davos (approx. 160 km)

Drive from St. Gallen to Davos. On your way you pass the small town of Appenzell, situated in a landscape of rolling hills. The Appenzell region is known for rural customs and traditions. As an option you might stop in Eastern Switzerland’s wine area Bündner Herrschaft, before continuing to Davos. Overnight in Davos.

Day 4: Davos – Lugano (approx. 290 km)

On your way to Lugano in Southern Switzerland a visit to Muottas Muragl is recommended, a mountain in the Upper Engadine, overlooking the entire valley including world famous St.Moritz. Continue to Lugano. Stroll through Lugano’s old town to experience the Southern lifestyle. Overnight in Lugano.

Day 5: Lugano – Zermatt (approx. 215km)

Visit Monte Brè or San Salvatore before departing for Zermatt. Drive via Locarno towards Täsch, where you park the car before taking the train to the car-free resort of Zermatt. Overnight in Zermatt.

Day 6: Zermatt – Montreux (approx. 150km)

A trip up to Gornergrat with amazing views of the Matterhorn is not to be missed. Back in Täsch your final leg takes you through the Valais to Montreux, one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Lake Geneva region. Don’t miss out on the historic water Castle Chillon, situated on the shores of Lake Geneva. Overnight in Montreux.

Day 7: Montreux – Gstaad (approx. 330km)

Today you have one of your longest drives but also a very fascinating one with interesting sights along your way to Gstaad. Drive through the orchards and terraced vineyards of the Lavaux to Lausanne and from here continue your drive to Freiburg, which is nestled on a rock promontory. Further on your way you will pass the Gruyère region, home to the world-famous Gruyère cheese. Overnight in Gstaad.

Day 8: Gstaad – Lucerne (approx. 315 km)

Continue your journey either towards Interlaken or Berne, before heading to Lucerne. From Interlaken you can experience the majestic Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau summits. Otherwise head to Bern, the capital of Switzerland. The old town of Bern is UNESCO World Heritage and thanks to its 6 kilometres of arcades boasts one of the longest sheltered shopping promenades in Europe. Overnight in Lucerne.

Day 9: Lucerne – Zurich Airport (approx. 140 km)

Lucerne is the gateway to central Switzerland, and it is embedded within an impressive mountainous panorama. One of the highlights of Lucerne is the Chapel Bridge. Drive to Zurich Airport for rental car drop off. Departure.

Day 1 Zurich

Grüezi! Welcome to Switzerland. After your arrival at the airport, make your own way to the hotel and enjoy your first day at leisure. As a lakeside "metropolis of experiences", with a magnificent view of the snow‐capped Alps on the horizon, Zurich offers a unique mixture of attractions.

Start with the beauty of the city’s natural surroundings. If you feel like getting a better view, take the train to the summit of Uetliberg Mountain. From the station, it’s a short walk to the peak and the scenery is incredible over Zurich, the lake and the Alps. Or if you’re in the Old Town and fancy a vantage point, you can walk up Lindenhof Hill for sweeping views over the city.  

Check in: Passengers will be arriving at various times throughout the day. If arriving prior to standard check-in time, which is generally 3pm local time, you are welcome to leave your luggage with hotel reception and explore your surroundings until check-in becomes available, as there are generally no scheduled activities on Day 1 of the itinerary. The hotel may grant early check-in, however this is strictly subject to availability and at the hotel’s discretion.

Day 2 Zurich

Wake up to a delicious Swiss breakfast, then take a stroll along the famous Bahnhofstrasse — Zurich's shopping paradise. A quick detour will lead you to the narrower cobbled streets of Zurich's Old Town and its smaller, independent artisan shops. Visit the Lindt Home of Chocolate (self-guided), and take the opportunity to use your included 24-hour Zurich Card for local transport and various discounts across the city. Be sure to not miss the picturesque waterfront promenades!

Day 3 Zurich Lucerne

After breakfast, transfer by rail to Lucerne in Central Switzerland, situated in an enviable location surrounded by a stunning lake and mountain panorama. The historic town of Lucerne attracts visitors globally with its well-preserved old town, countless shops and restaurants. A visit to Chapel Bridge, which has stood the test of time as a traditional crossing for locals, is one of many highlights that are sure to impress. 

Please note that the maximum luggage allowance is 23 kg due to train compartment restrictions.

Day 4 Lucerne Flüelen Gotthard Panorama Express Lugano

This morning, the Gotthard Panorama Express takes you from the heart of Switzerland, with a journey through Lake Lucerne on a paddle steamer boat.  From Flüelen, travel by first-class panoramic train to Lugano, a picturesque lakeside town in Switzerland’s Italian-speaking Ticino region.

Use the provided guest card to take full advantage of local transport and explore nearby villages, such as the pretty village of Morcote.

Day 5 Lugano Tirano Bernina Express St. Moritz

Board the Bernina Express bus after breakfast, and enjoy a scenic drive to Italy-based Tirano where you join the Bernina Express panoramic train across the border back to Switzerland. You will travel over circular viaducts and pass through winding tunnels, with highlights including the Brusio Circular Viaduct and a photo stop at Alp Grüm. 

Arrive in St. Moritz, a luxury alpine resort town in Switzerland’s Engadin valley, and spend the rest of the day at leisure. This luxury alpine resort town, a favourite for celebrities and royals, is surely one of the world’s most famous winter sports resorts. This was the first mountain village in the country to have a ski school, a tram and electric lighting. The Winter Olympics have been held here twice. It’s a renowned ski destination.

Day 6 St. Moritz

A full day awaits to explore St. Moritz, where guests from all over the world appreciate the modern Alpine lifestyle. Take advantage of your included guest card to visit the local area. We suggest the nearby mountains of Muottas Murgal or Diavolezza for incredible views that are not to be missed. Various sights including the leaning tower, a remnant of the Mauritius Church from around 1500, or the Segantini Museum, offer unique insight into the city’s fascinating history. 

Day 7 St. Moritz Glacier Express Zermatt

Ride the world‐famous Glacier Express to Zermatt today, a gorgeous village near the Italian border. Be enthralled by Switzerland’s spectacular scenery, thanks to oversized, panoramic windows that make for an unforgettable experience. Along the deep Rhone valley, the Glacier Express travels through an incredibly fascinating part of the Alps. The route famously takes you through 91 tunnels and 291 bridges, offering unrivalled views. Make sure to have your camera handy! Optionally, you may wish to dine at your seat with a delicious 3-course meal served on your table (additional charges apply). 

Day 8 Zermatt

Zermatt lies at the foot of the iconic Matterhorn peak. The town's touristic development is closely linked to what is arguably the world's most famous mountain. This car‐free resort offers guests an abundance of activities such as visits to the local mountains of Gornergrat or the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. It is also home to the highest open-air cog railway in Europe. 

Day 9 Zermatt Montreux

Continue by train to Montreux, nestled between steep hills and the lakeside of Lake Geneva. The town's promenade is lined with flowers, sculptures, Mediterranean trees and grand Belle Époque buildings. Nearby attractions include the medieval island castle, Chateau de Chillon and the vineyards of the Lavaux region.

Day 10 Montreux GoldenPass Express Wilderswil

Your journey continues by train on the GoldenPass Express through the wild and romantic Pays d'Enhaut, complete with scenic villages and crystal-clear lakes at every corner. 

Interlaken is a laidback resort town, presided over by three mighty mountains, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. It makes a great base from which to explore the Bernese Oberland. Unprecedented views of the Swiss Alps give an impression of what is to come during your stay.

Höheweg, the main promenade of Interlaken, is lovely for a stroll. It runs from Lake Brienz to Lake Thun, with flower gardens and parks on one side allowing for a view of the Bernese Alps. On the other side you’ll find high-end hotels, boutiques, cafes and the casino.

Note: if you have selected the 4* hotel upgrade, you will be staying at Interlaken instead of Wilderswil.

Day 11 Wilderswil Jungfraujoch Wilderswil

Your penultimate day in Switzerland packs another highlight! This morning you will embark on a self-guided excursion to the Jungfraujoch, also known as the highest railway station in Europe. You may choose to go via Grindelwald Terminal on the technical marvel that is Eiger Express cable car, or take the traditional route by train from Grindelwald via Kleine Scheidegg. Highlights include the world’s highest Lindt Chocolate Shop and the Ice Palace with its impressive ice sculptures.

Day 12 Wilderswil Zurich

Today marks the end of your magnificent and unforgettable tour through Switzerland. We hope you have thoroughly enjoyed your inspiring trip.

Your train ticket includes the rail transfer from Wilderswil to Zurich airport, allowing you the flexibility to select a suitable connection for your departure flight. Trains via Lucerne typically depart every hour.

Glacier Express 3-Course Lunch  As you gaze out at the stunning alpine panorama, enjoy a freshly prepared 3-course meal on board and served at your seat. Upgrade for $102 per person. 

Glacier Express Excellence Class + 1st class rail supplement  A panoramic trip through the Swiss Alps aboard the Glacier Express is now even more spectacular with guaranteed window seats and panoramic views. Secure your trip with a $99.00 deposit per person. Once we receive your deposit, we will send you an invoice with your remaining balance and payment options. Instalment Schedule:

• At the time of booking pay a $99.00 deposit per person.
• Pay a 1st installment of $540.00 per person within 28 days.
• Pay a 2nd installment of $1,080.00 per person within 90 days.
• You will then be invoiced for final payment 120 days prior to departure.

Fitness Requirements While the tour itinerary should give you some guidance and overview to the expected requirements, to determine if this tour is right for you we categorise each of our tours in terms of their intensity. Moderate Tour: A good level of fitness and mobility is required, as this tour includes a moderate level of physical activity and is considered a medium-fast paced tour. Any physical ailments you may have must be disclosed at the time of booking to determine your suitability. • Program: The program of this trip has an experiential character. Customers who value a lot of relaxation should consider this when booking. This is a join-in group tour with a maximum capacity of 12 passengers. A driver-guide will transfer you in a luxury Mercedes Benz Sprinter Cabrio (large retractable roof) and all rail journeys will be in 1st class with the group sitting together.
• Accessibility: This trip is not recommended for wheelchair users or people with walking difficulties.
• Altitude: Please note that on this trip you will be at high altitude and therefore in thin air. The places of stay are between about 1400 and 1800 m above sea level and on excursions you will reach over 3000 m above sea level. Visit to the Gardens of La Gara

The Gardens of La Gara are now open to the public for visits, along with a wine tasting of the estate's wines. Registrations can be made on the website www.lagara.ch .

The La Gara estate is one of the largest estates in the canton and one of the last examples of 18th-century Geneva countryside that remains in such a complete state: a collection of houses and outbuildings surrounded by courtyards and gardens located in the center of a still-operational 45-hectare agricultural domain.

In 1750, the banker Isaac Thellusson acquired the estate. La Gara remained in the hands of the Favre, Thellusson, and Faesch families until the 1970s. After 30 years of being unoccupied, the current owners have given the estate a family-oriented purpose while preserving its agricultural and viticultural function.

Verena Best, an architect from CNMHS, restored the main house and the barns. The courtyard and gardens have been rehabilitated over the past 20 years with the assistance of Erik Dhont, a Belgian landscape architect.

The gardens feature distinctive elements from the 18th and 19th centuries, such as access and viewpoint perspectives, lime tree avenues and hornbeam hedges, as well as the canal and carp pond. The entire park, gardens, orchard, and vegetable garden have also been restored and expanded while respecting the history, topography, functions of the place, and principles of sustainable management of natural resources.

In 2018, a labyrinth was created by the Swiss artist Markus Raetz (1941-2020) on the theme of palindromes. Covering an area of 650 m2, the labyrinth consists of 2,700 plants of 7 species.

The main house is classified as a historic monument, while the other buildings are listed in the inventory. The outdoor facilities and the canal have been classified since 2006.
