Really good customer service experience

We wanted to book a holiday for 2025, which we know is a while away. After looking online we could see that many agents weren't taking bookings that far in advance, however, we knew the rates were out for the hotel and the flights so we decided to send an email and enquire. I emailed the Failsworth branch after seeing they'd previously advertised the resort we wanted to go to on facebook and I heard back from Jade the same day. Jade asked me to leave it with her when she enquired. Jade managed to sort out everything and emailed me a quote over, Jade let me know she wasn't in the next day, but if we were happy we could ring back and speak to anyone at the store to pay the deposit or to ask any other questions. We had a quote from another agent who wanted a significantly higher depsoit and the price was very similar. We decided to go with Hays. I spoke with Ellie the next day and paid the deposit and then received all the information in an email a couple of hours later. I did ring back a couple of days later regarding how we selected our seats for the flights. On the Hays Website FAQ it mentions if its a TUI flight to use the reference number on the booking confirmation, however on our booking confirmation it had Hays own reference number so I couldn't do this myself through the TUI website. I was told a note had been made on my file to give me a call back in 6 months and they'd look into getting my seats booked for me as its a bit too early yet, which is completely understandable. Just want to thank Jade and Ellie for both really listening to what we wanted and getting us a deal that we are really happy with. Looking forward to hearing back in 6 months re booking our seats for the flights!

I was not impressed with the service

I was not impressed with the service. I was in shop two hours even thou i was seen on arrival. I had details of the holiday i wanted to book. I was asked to many times to repeat names dob etc. Then on being given a shop copy dob incorrect. I didnt get the information i requested on baby club etc. Just not the service i usually get when i go there. I was disappointed as this is a special family holiday. Having spent 10 grand it didn’t feel very special. I also wanted to book another short break for my husband and I. After moving to another assistant i left the shop deflated. I have now booked this via another travel agent. Disappointing thing is it’s one we looked at in Hayes. The other agent managed to get different flights to suit us and cheaper. I usually see two ladies in Hayes and i would not book again unless one of these ladies served us. I’m sorry as i’ve always usually given five stars. I would not let my daughters book online as I wanted to use Hayes. We could have got it hundred pounds cheaper but i said no. I have received a call from Debbie at Hayes today. She has dealt with my feedback in a professional way. I will now consider using Hayes again when i’m going abroad. Without Debbie’s intervention this would not have been the case.

I booked my city break over the phone. Ellie-Jade was fantastic as I had never been to Amsterdam. She double checked that my accommodation was suitable as it was far from the city centre. I wanted this hotel as it was in a quiet location but still surrounded by cafe and restaurants. Ellie explained if I did want to go to the city centre, that public transport, especially the tube were good value for money.

The staff were very knowledgeable about the country we want to visit. They helped us to find the resort and package that best suited our party and fully explained everything that we needed to do, and reiterated everything again to ensure that we fully understood everything. It’s many years since I’ve been abroad and the team were on hand to answer all of my questions. The team were very welcoming and made a daunting prospect very easy, straightforward, and stress-free. Brilliant team!

Lovely warm welcome from the moment we walked in. We had our 7 month old with us and the manager bought toys over for him to keep him busy whilst the team found us the best deal. The knowledgeable ladies in there knew exactly what we wanted for our first time away with our baby. We left feeling we got the best deal for the hotel we wanted. They were all so welcoming and chatty and gave us some top tips and welcomed us back in if we ever had any concerns or questions. 10/10 experience! Thank you !

Morocco last minute holiday

We had seen a last minute deal with Easy Jet to Morocco just before Christmas. A beautiful 5* hotel so when we looked again it came up as fully booked. We called into Hays the day after and not only did we get the holiday we were so excited about we got upgraded rooms and private transfers to and from the hotel. To say we are grateful and delighted for all the help we received is an understatement. We were well looked after with cups of tea and coffee whilst waiting for our booking to be confirmed.

Grindr shared the HIV status of users with ad firms, lawyers say

• A class action claim against Grindr accuses the app of sharing users' HIV status with third parties.
• Austen Hays, a law firm in the UK, alleges these breaches took place over at least two years.
• The firm says that "thousands" of UK users had their private information shared with third parties.

A class action claim filed against LGBTQ+ dating and hookup app Grindr alleges that "potentially thousands" of UK app users had their private information, including HIV statuses, shared with third parties.

The claim, lodged on Monday by UK-based law firm Austen Hays, accuses Grindr of breaching UK data-protection laws by sharing sensitive information with third parties without users' consent.

The information disclosed included users' HIV statuses, as well as data on their ethnicities, sex lives, and sexual orientations, according to a press statement provided to Business Insider.

Austen Hays alleges that the data breaches occurred before April 2018 and between May 2018 and April 2020, "although they may extend to further periods," it said.

It added that the data was shared with advertising companies Localytics and Apptimize, which the law firm said "would allow a potentially unlimited number of third parties to target and/or customize advertisements to its users."

According to Austen Hays, Grindr received payment from the third and fourth parties it shared personal data with, and it alleges that companies retained some of this data after the advertisements had been served.

With more of us finding love and connections online, the risk of extremely personal data being shared and potentially monetized is growing.

Over 670 claimants have already signed up to the class action , according to Austen Hays, which claims it is in discussions with "thousands" of others who are interested in joining.

Austen Hays said that those affected could receive thousands of pounds in damages if the case succeeds, "given the severity of the breach."

Breaches of data privacy regulations can lead to costly fines for companies that are found to violate them, and can also cause embarrassment for users.

With an app like Grindr, known for facilitating LGBTQ+ hookups for its millions of users worldwide, a breach could involve the sharing of highly sensitive information.

"Our clients have experienced significant distress over their highly sensitive and private information being shared without their consent, and many have suffered feelings of fear, embarrassment and anxiety as a result," said Chaya Hanoomanjee, Austen Hays' managing director.

Grindr has been punished for data breaches in the past.

In December 2021, it was fined 65 million Norwegian kroner, roughly $6 million, after the Norwegian Data Protection Authority found that it had disclosed personal data to third parties for advertising without a legal basis.

In 2022, the UK's Information Commissioner's Office also reprimanded the company after finding that it had violated the UK's General Data Protection Regulation.

In an email statement sent to Business Insider, a Grindr spokesperson said: "We are committed to protecting our users' data and complying with all applicable data privacy regulations, including in the UK."

The spokesperson added that Grindr intends to "respond vigorously" to the claim, which they said was based on a "mischaracterization of practices from more than four years ago."
