Arrival – Belgrade Arrival at Belgrade Airport and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon we take a guided tour of Belgrade to explore the capital of Serbia – one of the oldest cities in Europe. We will drive to the Vračar Plateau where we will see one of the most important sights of Belgrade – Temple of Saint Sava, one of the largest Orthodox temples in the Balkans. The Serbian National Library is nearby. Continue to the city center and Slavija Square, St. Mark’s Church and the Serbian Parliament Building, Republic Square, the National Theater and the National Museum. During a walk through the always lively Knez Mihailo Street, main promenade and shopping area, on the way to Kalemegdan, we visit the Congregational Church.

Kladovo – Ðerdap National Park – Kladovo We hike through the Ðerdap National Park, which is the largest river cliff landscape in Europe. The “Iron Gate” stands out as the most imposing valley breakthrough in Europe. This area is also the narrowest point of the Danube and that is why it was the most dangerous place for Danube navigation until the “Iron Gate” was built. In the afternoon we take a boat trip (approx. 2 hours) through the Danube Gorge. Only from the water can you see the Trajan’s Plaque, on which the Roman emperor boasts of his infrastructure measures. Activity: 4.5 hrs. (▲ 450 m ▼ 450 m).

Kladovo – Lepenski Vir – Belgrade After breakfast in the hotel, we drive towards Belgrade, the capital. We take the panoramic route Here begins our journey through one of the most imposing valley gaps in Europe. First we marvel at a little known world: the Stone Age. In Lepenski Vir, traces of settlement 9,000 years old were carefully excavated and archaeologically preserved before the Danube dam was built. On the way we will also visit the Golubac fortress, also known as the pigeon town or pigeon castle. In the afternoon we reach Belgrade, the capital. Serbia Hiking Tour.

Belgrade – Novi Sad – Fruška Gora National Park – Belgrade This morning we are heading towards Vojvodina, one of the most beautiful places in Serbia, to visit two of the most beautiful cities in the region: Novi Sad and Sremski Karlovci. In Novi Sad, the European Capital of Culture 2021, we will enjoy a walking tour of the city center, which goes through the City Hall, the Cathedral, the Assembly of Vojvodina, the shopping area with restaurants and cafes. We continue to visit the fortress of Petrovaradin, the so-called “Danube Gibraltar”, where the fortress is located. In the fortress we see the bell tower and the old fortress walls and have a wonderful view over the Danube, including the many bridges that span the river. We take a lunch break in an ethno village where authentic farmhouses are still in use today, offering traditional menus in traditional surroundings. In the afternoon we drive back to Belgrade. On the way we stop to visit Sremski Karlovci, a town full of vineyards rich in culture and history. Sremski Karlovci feels like a “museum town” with its baroque center, the Patriarchal Court, the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas and the first Serbian secondary school (grammar school). Here we start our hike in the Fruška Gora National Park to the Velika Remeta Monastery. It’s also famous for wine production and the city’s annual Wineball Festival. We will visit a local winery and enjoy wine tasting. Dinner and overnight in Belgrade. Activity: 2 hrs (▲ 200 m ▼ 200 m)

Return flight Breakfast in the hotel. Free time in Belgrade until the airport transfer for the return flight.

When the warm days come, the best way to cool down is to go on a hike by the riverside. With that in mind, we created a refreshing and adventurous tour that will take you through some of the most beautiful and interesting places which the river Gradac has to offer. Join us and savour the wonderful landscapes of the Gradac River gorge and meet a small part of Serbia which you will never forget.

Gradac is a river in Western Serbia well known for its unpolluted streams and beautiful gorge. It flows through the karst region of Valjevo Mountains and in the city of Valjevo it meets with the river Kolubara. Gradac has clean water which is drinkable in the biggest part of the gorge. With the length of 13 km it goes through rocky hills, makes blue river pools, and flows under old wooden bridges and over old dams. Biosphere of this canyon is very rich and here we can find trout, crabs and the biggest attraction of the river Gradac – otters. During the summer the river is very nice for picnics and swimming. In addition to its natural values, there are also some historical and archeological sites in the gorge. On the top of the hills you can find old Roman fortresses and a Christian church dating from the 4th century AD. The biggest cave of Western Serbia is located in this canyon – Degurić cave, over 2.5 km long.

Day 1: Gradac Gorge Hiking

Early pickup at the address in Belgrade. Transfer to Valjevo City. After the arrival in the morning hours, we start off with an easy walk on the path which goes near the water of the beautiful Gradac River. Our goal is to pass through the most interesting places of Gradac gorge. In the middle part of the river the rocks are coming close to each other making wonderful landscapes. Going downstream we will cross the river several times which makes this hiking different and adventurous. While relaxing by the river we will have authentic village lunch and after enjoying on the river bank you will have opportunity to play team sports (volleyball, football etc.). In the evening hours transfer back to Belgrade.

Hiking is a form of walking with the specific purpose of exploring and enjoying natural beauty.

Walking through natural areas that involves carrying the necessary equipment and all that is needed is a very popular recreational activity in many developed countries. People around the world enjoy hiking in nature, usually by already established trails.

Terms of hiking and trekking are English terms and there are no completely adequate expressions in the Serbian language that would explain the essential meaning of these activities.

Trekking  would be a multi-day hiking, ie. hiking in the mountain and rural areas

It can also include overnight in nature - usually in a tent, and it is possible to use abandoned pillows or make your own shelter from natural materials. Trekking can be combined with other activities-exploring caves, canyons, etc. For trekking it does not require technical knowledge but strong will, good fitness and little specific equipment.

Hiking is the world's most popular form of adventure tourism. It will give you real emotional relaxation, it's good to get a fit.

Hiking often requires good physical fitness, it means walking a few kilometers, sometimes it is necessary to climb steep mountainous sides. Different terms are encountered, such as hiking, bushwalking, tramping, trekking or walking It can take hours, days or weeks.

Hiking or hiking is one of the most common types of tourism. Walking tours do not require special equipment or special preparation. Walking tours are among the most popular types of holidays in the population of developed countries with a high degree of urbanization. Two European pedestrian corridors, E4 and E7 pass through Serbia

There are officially 12 footpaths in Europe (European Long Distance Paths). The European Pedestrian Association, of which the Serbian Mountaineering Association is a member, approved in October 2009 that two European pedestrian corridors - E4 and E7 - pass through our country.

European pedestrian corridor E4 starts from Gibraltar and extends over Pirinea and Lake Constanta and Balaton, to Serbia where it begins at the eastern side of Kanjiža. The route continues through the Melenci, the Carska bara, and the Deliblato sands to Belgrade, Smederevo, Ram's fortress, and then to the Đerdap gorge continues to Gamzigrad, Pirot, the canyon of the Jerme River, and the mountain of Ruj. Then he goes to Bulgaria and the road continues to the Greek island of Crete until Cyprus.

European walking corridor E7 begins on the Canary Islands in the Atlantic, and through the Mediterranean, Andorra, and France, extending along the Italian Lake Garda and southern Hungary. Western variant through Serbia starts from Palić, through Zobnatica, Banja Junaković, Bač, Karađorđevo, Sremski Karlovci, Fruska Gora, Zasavica, Valjevski Mountain, Rajac, Oplenc, Mokra Gora, Sopoćani, Studenica, Golija, Mileševa, Kopaonik, Đavolja Varoš, Jastrebac, Vlasina, and Dukat Mountain continue to Bulgaria.

Via Dinarica as a set of hiking and hiking trails connecting the Dinaric area in the Western Balkans

How did the idea come about.

Dinar mountains  ( Dinarides  or  Dinaric Alps ) are a mountain range in southern Europe. It stretches across the western part of the Balkan Peninsula through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania. They were named after the Dinara mountain.

Dinarides make 200 special mountains with 240 peaks over 2000 m. The area of Dinarides marks over twenty national parks and sites under the protection of UNESCO.

These facts, as well as similar projects implemented in the Alps, such as Via Alpina contributed to the design of the Via Dinarica project.

Via Dinarica is a tourist product that represents a set of hiking and hiking trails connecting natural and cultural sights in the Dinaric area.

Paths extend along the entire Western Balkans in the length of more than 1000 km. Three main lines along Via Dinarica have been formed:

• White line - connects the highest mountains and peaks in the central Dinarides
• Blue - connects mountains along the Adriatic coast
• Green - connects mountaineering, pedestrian and biking trails in the north-western Dinarides

The green line includes the lower mountains of Dinarides and, through its work, passes through Serbia. Among other mountains, it covers the area of Tara, Zlatibor, Zlatar, Jadovnik, Golija, Kopaonik, Goc, Stolovi.

Via Dinarica also includes mountains in Kosovo, such as: Sharr, Prokletije, Mokra Gora.

The project is funded by USAID and UNDP, implemented through cooperation with local partners. It means improvement of tourist infrastructure and quality of service providers along the paths - marking of trails, construction and restoration of mountain lodges, private accommodation, etc.

The paths along the Via Dinarica have more than 100 stages, not all of them are marked, but certain infrastructure already exists. It exists especially in Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro, while part of the trails in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania are marked with the support of international development agencies.

Via Dinarica as a product is promoted and placed on the foreign tourist market through various tour operators in the Balkans.

The prestigious magazine National Geographic has ranked Via Dinaric in the world's best destinations for 2017.
