Essential Trip Information

Before joining a trip, please review the essential trip information below

Joining Point Instructions

Each tour begins and ends in Dublin city center. Your trip confirmation will include the joining point for your trip. Access from Dublin airport to city center is by taxi and bus. Taxi fares cost around €25, and a bus ticket is around €7.

Passports, Visas, and Entry Requirements

You will need a valid passport to travel internationally. Remember to check your passport details and expiration date. You may require a visa to enter Ireland. Check the visa requirements for your nationality on your government's foreign travel website.

Medical and General Health Information

This trip can be enjoyed by just about anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Please read the day to day itinerary carefully to find out more about each day's activities. Most activities can be opted out of if you don't wish to participate. For the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others, if you are unwell prior to travelling, please stay home and contact us to make alternative arrangements.

Food and Dietary Requirements

If you have any dietary requirements and or food allergies, please let us know at the time of booking. To give you flexibility with where you eat on tour, most meals are not included so you can find places to eat that suit your taste and budget. Your trip host will be able to help you with recommendations.

When dining out it is not customary for restaurant staff to provide individual checks to a group dining togehter.  If the group dines together, usually everyone contributes their portion of money. With this in mind, it's helpful to have cash on hand when dining with the group. 

Accommodation

Hotel (6 nights)

The style of accommodation is 3 and 4 star hotels, guest houses, and B&B's. We strive to use local accommodation wherever possible. Due to availability the accommodation may change from trip to trip. In this case we use a similar standard of accommodation. 

Throughout the trip, we request that the properties prepare the rooms in time for our arrival, but this isn't always possible if we are arriving outside of normal check-in times. In these cases, we will be able to store luggage until rooms are ready. 

If you are coming from the US, you may find that hotel rooms are smaller than what you're used to. Many hotels in Ireland do not have air conditioning. While this generally isn't an issue as Ireland does not usually get hot enough to warrant air conditioning, you should be aware of this in advance if travelling in the summer months. 

TWIN SHARE BASIS

Accommodation on this trip is on a twin/multishare basis. We pair up solo travelers with another traveler of the same gender as per the gender marker on their passport. If you identify differently, or would like a private room, please let us know at the time of booking. 

We like to travel the local way, which means taking local trains and buses where possible. This trip is organized so the amount of travel is limited, so you can spend more time being there and less time travelling. Hotels are centrally located so you can walk to most destinations on arrival in the location.

SPENDING MONEY

When it comes to spending money, each person is different, and you will know best your spending habits. We recommend using local ATM's to withdrawal money (as apposed to those at the airport). We recommend arriving with some local currency so you have it available if needed. Most places take credit card, however there are markets or local pubs that may be cash only. Before leaving home, check with your bank to ensure your bank card will work and alert your bank and credit card companies of travel notifications.

The tipping culture in Ireland is different than those who may be coming from the US or other countries where tipping is more widespread. In general, if you are eating at a coffee shop or cafe a tip of a few euro is appropriate. For dinner a 10% tip is standard.  At pubs you generally don't tip for one drink, but if you spend the evening at a pub and have the same staff all night, it's appropriate to tip and buy the bartender a drink as a thank you. All tipping is optional, and completely up to what you feel comfortable with, but this is the standard of what you should expect.

What you need will depend on the time of year travelling. We recommend you pack as light as possible and make sure you are able to carry your own luggage and walk with it for short distances or up and down a flight of stairs. 

Luggage is limited to one suitcase and one backpack per person. 

Climate and Seasonal Information

Ireland has a temperate climate, which means it tends to be mild all year round. The country receives generally warm summers and mild winters. This is due to the fact that Ireland lies in the Atlantic Ocean, and as a result is warmed by the Gulf Stream all year. Summer temperatures are generally around 60°F/15°C. The weather is notoriously changeable and you are likely to experience rain, sun, wind, all in one day. It's best to prepare with layers, a waterproof jacket, and a change of shoes in case they get wet.

Itinerary Disclaimer

Due to weather, local conditions, transport schedules, public holidays, or other factors, changes may be necessary to the itinerary. The order and timing of included activities at each location may vary seasonally to ensure travelers have the best experiences. Your tour host will keep you updated with any changes. 

This trip is accompanied by a trip host. The aim of the trip host is to take the hassle out of your travels and help you have the best trip possible. Your trip host takes care of logistics, will provide information, and suggest things to do and see. While your trip host will have knowledge in the area, they are not a guide in the traditional sense. Your trip includes local guides in cities like Dublin and Galway who will provide a more localized cultural connection with the area. 

For regular foreign travel advice and safety issues concerned with international travel you should consult your national governments resources. We recommended checking your government's advice before departure as well as what is covered by your travel insurance. Ireland is generally a very safe country, but it's wise to take extra precautions in cities and anywhere there are large crowds.  While travelling there is always the risk of petty theft. Simple measures like wearing your backpack in the front in crowded areas are advised.

A Few Rules

We've laid out a few rules to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe on trips. We ask that you respect your fellow travellers, trip host, and any local people. You are expected to follow local laws and customs at every destination. Any behavior that does not comply with this will result in you being removed from the trip. If you consume alcohol while travelling, we encourage responsible drinking. Decisions made by the trip leader and staff are final. By travelling with us you agree to comply to these rules and the laws and customs of Ireland.

Travelling on a Group Trip

Your fellow travellers may come from a different background and age range from you. We ask you to be understanding of the needs of others and the preferences of your group. Each person has a responsibility to the group which includes being at certain places at certain times so the rest of the group isn't kept waiting. 

SOLO TRAVELLERS

The great part about our trips is they are ideal for solo travelers and those who want to meet people. On our trips rooming is organized on a twin-share basis. We pair up solo travelers with another traveler of the same gender as per the gender marker on their passport. If your gender identity differs from your passport, please contact us so we can discuss rooming options with you. We also have a single supplement available for purchase on most trips for those who prefer their own room. 

Travel Insurance

While travel insurance is not compulsory, we do strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance. We recommend a policy that includes personal liability, cancellation, loss of luggage or personal affects. You may have travel insurance as part of a credit card or other membership.
