The recently released track explores the topics of perseverance and gratitude in times of trouble.

In his continued support of Israel and his Jewish roots, Matisyahu made a surprise appearance today (November 14th) at the March for Israel at the National Mall in Washington, DC where he performed his global anthem “One Day” alongside The Maccabeats.
Marking one of the largest public displays of Jewish pride, solidarity with the people of Israel, and inter-group unity based on shared American and Jewish values, today's gathering of hundreds of thousands – which also included appearances from President of Israel Isaac Herzog, Debra Messing, Van Jones, Michael Rapaport, Israeli musicians Ishay Ribo and Omer Adam, family members of the hostages in Gaza, various faith leaders, bipartisan congressional leaders, and more – called for the urgent and safe release of the hostages, the denouncement of antisemitic violence, hate and harassment in the U.S., and the end of Hamas and terrorism amidst America's continuous support of Israel.
“That was amazing. What an incredible thing it was to be with everybody and in total unity with the Jewish people in Washington, DC,” shares Matisyahu. “Singing ‘One Day' together blew me away with what we're going through right now. The way that song has become an anthem for so many young people is so moving. Thank you to everyone - what a day!”
Like only the most gifted storytellers, Matisyahu spins the rare kind of stories that simultaneously enlighten, enthrall, and expand the audience's sense of possibility. Known for his skill in blending a shapeshifting collision of reggae, hip-hop, alt rock and boldly inventive pop – all while paying homage to his spirituality and roots in Judaism – Matisyahu's live shows consistently provide audiences with a dynamic and energetic performance full of life and illumination.
With more than fifteen years under his belt, he's teamed up with the best improvisational musicians and artists for jam sessions and collaborations, and his long and winding career consists of seven studio albums including the chart-topping Light (2009), Youth (2006), and Spark Seeker (2012), as well as Akeda (2014), Undercurrent (2017), and Matisyahu (2022), and various live albums including his 2005 breakthrough Live At Stubb's.
This past summer, the New York-raised and New Jersey-based multi-talent released Live In Brooklyn , recorded at the iconic Brooklyn Bowl New York during his annual Festival of Light. Exemplifying his transcendent live show, Live In Brooklyn features renditions of fan-favorites and global hits including the Gold-certified “ One Day ” – whose original version has been streamed over 140 million times on Spotify alone – and the genre-bending, Billboard Hot 100-charting and alt-radio topping breakthrough single “ King Without A Crown .” The release of “Fireproof” follows Matisyahu's recent single “ Ripples ,” released in September.

Matisyahu Unveils Hold The Fire Tour Following Appearance at the National March for Israel in Washington
Hot on the heels of making a surprise appearance at the National March for Israel in Washington, D.C., singer, songwriter, and alternative reggae rock artist Matisyahu announced a tour set for 2024. The 34-date outing will support Matisyahu’s upcoming EP, Hold The Fire , which features his newly released single “Fireproof” and is set to be released on Feb. 2 via his own Fallen Sparks Records.
Yesterday, Matisyahu joined thousands of demonstrators who united at the National Mall in support of Israel and against the antisemitism and bias incidents that have increased in the U.S. since the start of the Gaza war. During his time there, he used music as a force of connection and healing by sharing a rendition of his global anthem, “One Day,” alongside The Maccabeats.
“That was amazing. What an incredible thing it was to be with everybody and in total unity with the Jewish people in Washington, DC,” Matisyahu shared. “Singing ‘One Day’ together blew me away with what we’re going through right now. The way that song has become an anthem for so many young people is so moving. Thank you to everyone – what a day!”
The march marked one of the largest public displays of Jewish pride, solidarity with Israel, and inter-group unity based on shared American and Jewish values to date. Along with Matisyahu, the march also saw appearances from the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, Debra Messing, Van Jones, Michael Rapaport, Israeli musicians Ishay Ribo and Omer Adam, family members of the hostages, faith leaders and bipartisan congressional leaders.
Matisyahu’s Hold The Fire Tour will kick off in Pensacola, Fla., on Jan 31. From there, it will make its way across the U.S., with special guest Cydeways, hitting St. Petersburg, Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Austin, Las Vegas, Berkeley, Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Denver, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and more, before wrapping March 23 in Brooklyn, N.Y. See below for the full routing.
Presales will be available tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time, with the general on-sale beginning Friday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. local time. Learn more and find tickets here . ($1 of every ticket sale will be donated to the Last Prisoner Project , a nonprofit dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform and releasing every nonviolent cannabis prisoner.)

Creativity is like a fire in a fireplace: You have to tend it or it will go out. For nearly two decades, Matisyahu has kept his creative spirit aflame by evolving his sound, melding genres, and testing the limits of the musical traditions that have inspired him. His latest release, Hold The Fire , and its leadoff single “Fireproof” takes inspiration from a fire dream inspired by Matisyahu’s Old Testament religion, which has meant so much to his spiritual and creative life since his recording career began in 2004 and his breakout track “King Without a Crown” blasted into the Billboard charts in 2005. In a roundabout way, those same Old Testament roots spring boarded Matisyahu’s music career. Growing up outside New York City, the young Matthew Miller followed jam bands like Phish and the Grateful Dead. Then, in Bob Marley and reggae, he found that the messaging of Rastafarianism was sourced in part from that same Old Testament. The sound that emerged on his first albums—including his first two studio releases as well as 2005’s Gold-certified Live at Stubb’s —embraced both the spirit of reggae and his spirituality and roots in Judaism. Buoyed by hits like “King Without a Crown,” albums like the Grammy-nominated and Billboard No.1-ranked Youth in 2006, and the Gold-certified 2009 antiwar hit “One Day” (streamed over 150 million times on Spotify alone), he toured extensively through the second half of the aughts with a high-energy stage show that has since grown to include more improvisation. All the while his music expanded into a shapeshifting collision of reggae, hip-hop, alt rock and boldly inventive pop. Today, he continues to be inspired by evolving musical trends, finding linkages and loops between eras and genres. Matisyahu’s spirituality has evolved in parallel with his music, though his Jewish heritage remains a central theme throughout his life and music. The new EP, Hold The Fire (out February 2024),also finds him reflecting on celebrity and artistic success. For Matisyahu, “the unbelievable and miraculous feeling of being connected to our people” is what keeps the creative fire alight.

About MATISYAHU
When Matisyahu first started touring to packed clubs more than eleven years ago, it was prior to the release of Live at Stubbs , the now Gold record, and prior to that record’s single “King without a Crown” reaching #1 on the alternative rock radio charts. His performances were a raw expression of his spirituality at that time and were supported by musicians who played a foundation of roots reggae augmented by the energy of a rock trio. Fans latched on quickly for a variety of reasons, but in August of 2005, just months after the release of Live at Stubbs , Matisyahu found himself on stage at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival with the de facto leader of improvisational rock-n-roll; Phish’s front man Trey Anastasio. Many early fans of Matisyahu remember that moment clearly not because of the songs he played in front of the 80,000-person crowd, but because of his seemingly unfettered confidence (or perhaps naiveté) in helping lead Trey and his band through an improvisational display of beat boxing and lyrical gymnastics during the two songs performed. It may have been unrefined, but Matisyahu’s passion for full band improvisation was laid bare.
Fans within the improvisational-jam scene began flocking to Matisyahu’s shows shortly thereafter. “King without a Crown” climbed the charts and Matisyahu’s follow up record Youth was nominated for a Grammy, but the blessings and curses of mainstream success each took root. While Matisyahu’s bands have always been comprised of serious multidimensional players who have artfully molded the foundations of roots reggae into many genres, that early; if only a brief display of complete surrender to the music, seemed in some way to take a back seat. Through his lyrics however, Matisyahu developed a more personal, artistic, and sophisticated way to express the yearning for deep spiritual meaning, and as his own beliefs opened up to find more variety and depth, the desire for his performances to match the unpredictable flow of life developed as well.

Creativity is like a fire in a fireplace: You have to tend it or it will go out. For nearly two decades, Matisyahu has kept his creative spirit aflame by evolving his sound, melding genres, and testing the limits of the musical traditions that have inspired him. His latest release, Hold The Fire , and its leadoff single “Fireproof” takes inspiration from a fire dream inspired by Matisyahu's Old Testament religion, which has meant so much to his spiritual and creative life since his recording career began in 2004 and his breakout track "King Without a Crown" blasted into the Billboard charts in 2005. In a roundabout way, those same Old Testament roots springboarded Matisyahu's music career. Growing up outside New York City, the young Matthew Miller followed jam bands like Phish and the Grateful Dead. Then, in Bob Marley and reggae, he found that the messaging of Rastafarianism was sourced in part from that same Old Testament. The sound that emerged on his first albums—including his first two studio releases as well as 2005's Gold-certified Live at Stubb's —embraced both the spirit of reggae and his spirituality and roots in Judaism. Cydeways is an Alternative band out of Santa Barbara, CA. Fronted by Dustin Parks, Cydeways also features Casey Kernohan, Daniel Kearney, Kevin Harvey, Trevor Buckingham (producer/engineer) & Dana Shoults (co-producer). The group initially formed in Boston, MA. before Parks moved the project out west to California.
The group eventually caught the attention of Law Records and in speaking with Law’s Yesod Williams , he shares how Cydeways wound up on his radar, telling The Pier: “I was podcasting Joe D. from Iration and he mentioned Cydeways to me. He’s friends with Dustin. After a little time, Hawaiian time that is, I finally reached out to Dustin. He sent me a track he had coincidentally done featuring another mutual friend in the Rhymesayers artists, Grieves , serendipity? I’d say so!”

For Jewish Singer Matisyahu, Protests and Concert Cancelations Only Deepen His Resolve
I n February, Matisyahu was staring down a complete unraveling of his 2024 Hold the Fire tour. Barely a week into the 30-plus date coast-to-coast trek, two back-to-back shows were canceled — at Meow Wolf in Sante Fe, NM and the Rialto in Tuscon, AZ — citing “safety concerns and a staff shortage.” The artist, known for his fusion of reggae and hip-hop atop spiritual lyrics and themes, has a dedicated fan base that is predominantly Jewish, having adopted his stage persona as a nod to Old Testament orthodoxy. Since first breaking out in 2005 with the song “King Without a Crown,” he’s gradually adopted a more secular presentation, leaning into his influences, from Rastafarianism to the sounds of Phish and the Grateful Dead.
“It was like the rug was pulled out from under me,” says Matisyahu. “We had protesters at shows [before], but the idea of a show getting cancelled for it, I thought was far-fetched.” His response was to lambast the venues on social media, writing on X, “The only concern was a group of staff unwilling to work my show. ... We offered to supplement their staff shortages on our own dime, but to no avail. They do this because they are either anti-Semitic or have confused their empathy for the Palestinian people with hatred for someone like me who holds empathy for both Israelis and Palestinians.”
Matisyahu describes his actions in the coming days as “fight more than flight. I was, like, OK, if they cancel our shows, we will find places to play,” he says. “I located another venue, an entire security team and moved the show in a matter of three hours.”
Another Jewish act is facing a similar situation. The Monarch, a venue in Brooklyn, pulled the plug on a May concert by Israeli rock band HaYehudim (Hebrew for The Jews), because their name was deemed too political. A representative for the band, which formed in the ’90s, said the club "informed our local booking agent that the event is canceled due to the ‘currently political nature of our band’ and that the club owners prefer to refrain from hosting ‘politically charged events or acts.’” They vow to continue their U.S. dates, which include a June appearance in Los Angeles, writing on Instagram, “We do not surrender to politics. With the feelings of disappointment and sorrow, we prefer to focus on music, unity, love and freedom.”
Matisyahu is unfamiliar with the group’s music, but he’s not surprised, which is why he was determined to plug the dam of his concert schedule. He found a supportive ally in Brooklyn Bowl owner Peter Shapiro, whose Las Vegas venue was next on the route.
“Pete flew out to Vegas just to reassure me that he wasn't going to cancel the show no matter what,” says Matisyahu of the Feb. 16 show. “And I thought of the concept of mazel, or luck — you’re in Vegas rolling the dice. So I told him, ‘Pete, you shifted the mazel. Things were kind of going in a certain direction, then we came to Vegas and rolled the dice and the whole energy shifted.’"
“We got emails and messages, like, 'I love your venue but don't host this show,’” says Shapiro. “I'm proud that our staff showed up. Matisyahu has a song called ‘One Day,’ he’s a peaceful dude. Yes, he's proud to be Israeli. He brought up the hostages. He didn't shirk who he is, where he comes from and his perspective.”
Three weeks after the Vegas Bowl show, however, a March 8 date at Chicago's House of Blues was canceled citing safety concerns. Matisyahu, who said he would donate his fee to a pair of women- and medical-focused charity groups, responded with deepened resolve, writing, "These individuals and the organizations that break under their pressure threaten the bedrock of artistic expression, intellectual honesty and empathy between people with different views and concerns. ... We will continue to play shows and we will always stand tall against hate and march towards the true goal of a long term peace for all."
Shapiro acknowledges that such pressure “is hard for a venue owner,” adding, “I have thicker skin from doing this now since 1996.”
Shapiro’s bonafides include running New York City institution The Wetlands, which Matisyahu frequented in his high school years, a venue that also served as a hub of activism until it closed in 2001. “It was a place that let people express different points of view,” says Shapiro. "I’m less about trying to convey my perspective and more about a place for other perspectives to be shared. ... Music is supposed to bring people together. We have to start to focus on what's on the other side of this.”
To that end, Shapiro would welcome HaYehudim to his Brooklyn stage, as he would a reggae act called Tribe of Judah, “and if there's a Palestinian group that wants to play, they should call the bowl,” he says.
As for Matisyahu, he finished his U.S. tour. “We had some protesters here and there, but amongst my fans and online, people were being supportive and stepping up and trying to help,” he says.
Soon after wrapping his last show, he flew to Israel where he filmed a video for the song “Ascent” featuring survivors of the October 7 Nova Music Festival massacre. A few days later, some of those same survivors joined him on stage.
“I met them when I came to Israel before the tour started, and I got so much strength from these people — hearing their stories and what they went through and how they were responding,” he says. “And I took that with me everywhere I went on tour. Through the protesting and the cancellations, there was a feeling of connection and love and power. It was a very powerful experience when they came up on stage.”
Matisyahu will next lend his voice to the organization If You Heard What I Heard , whose focus is to share stories from the grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, the last generation to hear of the experiences firsthand, at a charity event scheduled for May 8 in Beverly Hills.
