The UAE began issuing five-year multiple-entry visas in 2021, giving tourists more flexibility when visiting the Emirates.

Since March, families visiting the UAE can now apply for the five-year multiple-entry visa as a group.

Before then, each family member needed to apply separately, submitting the same set of documents for each person.

The visa, announced during a Cabinet session in March 2021, encourages longer and more frequent stays in the country for anyone without a residency visa, with multiple entries and stays of up to 180 days.

Now with the latest development there is an option for a family to apply as a group, as confirmed by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security's website.

“It will help relatives travel back and forth and will also attract a lot more tourists without any connection to the UAE so there will be more footfall,” said Haider Hussain, partner at Fragomen, an immigration services company.

“This will enhance travel into the UAE and make life easier for residents and their extended family members,” he said.

“People can stay for six months at one go if they want to."

The entry permit works as a self-sponsored visa as individuals can apply for it themselves and their families directly online and do not need to apply via a travel agency, hotel or relative in the UAE.

The approval process is quick as long as the required paperwork is submitted.

Can I extend my visa when I’m still in the UAE?

The initial visa is issued with a 90-day duration of stay in the UAE in a year from the date of first entry. This can be extended once for an additional 90-day period. The maximum permitted duration of stay under this visa cannot exceed 180 days in a year.

This is a self-sponsored visa foreign citizens can apply for as long as they meet the eligibility conditions. In Dubai, you can approach a Customer Happiness Centre or an Amer Service Centre.

Companies can also issue this visa for international employees once the company registers with Dubai Tourism via their website.

An authorised typing centre, or a government service centre can help a person apply for it to ensure the eligibility criteria is met and the application is successful.

Individuals and families in other emirates can apply online.

How can companies get a five-year visa for international staff?

Dubai introduced a five-year multi-entry visa for employees of international companies based in the emirate to simplify the application and provide easy access to the city for global visitors.

Companies need to register with Dubai tourism, open a file for the company and then start filing for their employees instead of through a tourist agency. The employees will get the same five-year multi-entry visit visa but it will be via the company. This is open to those companies who have been approved.

What are the other tourist visa options?

For anyone not receiving a visa on arrival, a 30 or 90-day single entry tourist visa can be issued by a UAE-registered tourist agency. Cost is between Dh300 and Dh600.

If a tourist overstays, what is the grace period?

There is no longer a grace period for tourists who overstay their visa and fines will be implemented from the first day after it expires.

What is the fine per day for lapsed tourist visas?

Overstaying the permitted stay in the UAE under a tourist visa attracts a fine of Dh50 each day of overstay.

There is an additional fee for an exit permit that must be paid on departure by visitors who overstay.

All about the multiple entry five-year UAE tourist visa

  • Multiple Entry Five Year Tourist Visa

The UAE is a leading tourism destination attracting millions of visitors from around the world. The country has been extremely successful at attracting visitors and professionals by introducing strategic improvements in terms of recreational amenities and other facilities. To promote tourism even further, the government has announced a new five-year UAE Tourist Visa which allows for multiple entries into the country.

ALL ABOUT THE MULTIPLE ENTRY FIVE-YEAR UAE TOURIST VISA

The UAE Cabinet approved the decision to issue a multiple-entry UAE tourist visa that would remain valid for five years.

This new Dubai tourist visa for 5 years was announced after a cabinet meeting. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai chaired the meeting.

Passport holders from all nationalities will be eligible to apply for the new 5-year multiple-entry tourist visa. One can stay in the country for a continuous 180-days. However, another 90-day extension could be granted upon request. The applicant will be self sponsoring the visa and can enter and exit the country as many times as he or she desires.

This is another step by the UAE government to reaffirm the country’s position as one of the top global tourist destinations.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FIVE-YEAR UAE TOURIST VISA

The five-year, multi-entry UAE tourist visa announcement was made on 21st March 2021. The finer details about how this visa will be rolled out will be revealed in due course. Its implementation, on the other hand, is the responsibility of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship.

As per reports, the terms and conditions for getting the five-year, multi-entry UAE tourist visa will be the same as for the current UAE tourist visa.

EXPO 2020 VISITORS

The initial announcement regarding the 5-year visa was made last year in line with Expo 2020.

At the time, the chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Ali Mohammad Bin Hammad Al Shamsi, had said that this decision was also taken into account, keeping in mind the upcoming visitors for Expo 2020 . The UAE welcomes 21 million visitors each year. Dubai, in particular, contributes to welcoming a significant number of tourists, so having this longer, new 5-year Dubai tourist visa will certainly be helpful.

With Expo 2020 scheduled for later this year, the government is trying to increase that number significantly. The idea is to use this mega event as a catalyst to create further global interest. By offering a 5-year tourist visa to Dubai, the government wants to ensure higher volumes of visitors that would like to stay in the country for the long term.

Reducing the amount of paperwork involved and perhaps cutting down on the overall fees will attract even more people to this land of opportunity. Given that the offer is for all nationalities, this can be a pivotal decision for the future of the UAE’s tourism industry.

WHAT IS THE FIVE YEAR MULTIPLE ENTRY TOURIST VISA FEE?

So far there hasn’t been an announcement regarding the fees for the 5-year Dubai visa for tourists.

HOW LONG IS THE VISA PROCESSING TIME?

An announcement in this regard is also expected soon. However, generally, UAE visa processing timing are fairly swift.

HOW WILL THE RESIDENTS BENEFIT FROM THIS CHANGE?

Relatives of residents who want to stay in the UAE currently have to apply for extensions if they intend to stay longer than the period mentioned on the visa. With this 5-year tourist visa in Dubai due to be enrolled soon, families can spend more time with their loved ones in the UAE.

Moreover, this five-year UAE tourist visa will, at the very least, reduce the application processing times. Applying for a visa can be a stressful experience and having to do it repeatedly is a hassle. With the 5-year UAE tourist visa, residents can stay with their relatives for longer periods. More importantly, they would only have to make a one-time payment.

While the new tourist visa for Dubai has been announced, the implementation and roll-out of the procedures may take some time. So, those who are currently staying in the country on a tourist visa, here’s how to extend tourist visa in Dubai .

It’s always best to be on the safe side and extend the visa to avoid overstaying fines . If there is any confusion, you can submit your UAE visa status enquiry.

The UAE cabinet’s decision to approve a multiple entry tourist visa for all nationalities is being hailed as a blessing for expatriate families and business travellers.

2 new UAE visas for tourists, remote work: All we know so far

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai said the cabinet approved the launch of the new visa on Twitter. The UAE had first announced multiple entry visit visas for tourists in January last year.

Sheikh Mohammed had said then that the first-of-its-kind visa is aimed at establishing the UAE as a major ‘global tourism destination’.

The new list of regulations and visas announced following the cabinet meeting on Sunday aims to “strengthen the UAE’s status as a global economic capital”, said the Dubai ruler. The new visa schemes are the latest in a string of reforms announced recently to boost the economy and help investors, entrepreneurs, qualified individuals and families.

Heads of tourism companies and experts in the travel industry have said the long-term visa for tourists will bolster the weak performing tourism sector. It will also benefit families who make frequent trips to the UAE to meet with their loved ones.

“Once implemented, those who travel to the UAE frequently to meet with their loved ones will definitely benefit from it. For example, aged parents of residents, children who study abroad, and such categories of families will surely benefit from it. Costs of constantly applying for visit visas will also be cut down for expatriates,” said Afi Ahmed, the managing director of Smart Travels.

TP Sudheesh, the general manager of Deira Travel and Tourist Agency said, “It will definitely benefit high-income expatriates and frequent travellers. Business travellers who want to travel into the UAE at a moment’s notice will just have to take their passports and leave. The hassle of having to repeatedly apply for visit visas are not there any longer. This provides them with easy accessibility for longer periods of time.”

It will also strengthen business and tourism travellers and strengthen the economic outset of the tourism sector, said business leaders. Kamal Vachani, group director of Al Maya Group, said that the newly approved multiple entry tourist visa for all nationalities is a remarkable step taken by Sheikh Mohammed. “It will definitely strengthen the UAE’s status as a global economic capital by bringing more tourists as well as investors,” said Vachani

“It is going to be a big relief for the frequent business travellers as they would not to apply again and again for each trip to the UAE. It will be a big boost in terms of ease of doing business. It will further boost the tourism in the country. These visa reforms will also help entrepreneurs, qualified individuals and their families,” he stated.

This new visa lets tourists enter the UAE multiple times on their sponsorship. They can stay for 90 days initially, extendable once, totalling a maximum of 180 days within a year.

It is designed to suit various travel needs, facilitating easy connections for business or leisure purposes.

DET highlighted that with this initiative, tourists can benefit from multiple entries and exits, enhancing operational flexibility for business engagements, leisure travel, and seamless connectivity.

Bader Ali Habib, Regional Head of Proximity Markets at Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, emphasised the significant role of India in Dubai's tourism sector, contributing to record-breaking performance in inbound visitation in 2023, reported Economic Times.

He stated that India remains a key market for Dubai, playing an essential role in achieving the goals of the D33 Agenda and reinforcing Dubai's position as a hub for business, investment, and tourism.

Application Process:

To obtain the visa, applicants must meet certain criteria, including a bank balance of 4,000 USD, valid health insurance for the UAE, a round-trip ticket, and proof of stay in the UAE (hotel or residential address).

The application requires essential documents such as a coloured photo, passport copy, medical insurance, bank statement, tour program, and an onward journey ticket.

Issuing the Visa:

The process of issuing the visa involves either utilising digital channels (GDRFA website/smart application) or visiting a Customer Happiness Centre. Both methods involve filling the application, paying the necessary fees, and ensuring all conditions and documents are in order.

The visa adheres to specific terms and conditions, including possessing a valid passport or travel document, a return ticket, valid medical insurance in the UAE, and a bank statement showing a balance of 4,000 USD.

Dubai's 5-year multiple-entry tourist visa for Indians is a significant step towards fostering stronger bonds between the two nations and providing Indian tourists with an extended and flexible travel option to Dubai.
