Ancient civilizations occupied Monument Valley for Thousands of Years

Monument Valley  (Navajo:  Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii , meaning  valley of the rocks ) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. It is located on the Utah-Arizona state line, near the Four Corners area. The valley is a sacred area that lies within the territory of the Navajo Nation Reservation, the Native American people of the area

The landscape overwhelms, not just by its beauty but also by its size.  The fragile pinnacles of rock are surrounded by miles of mesas and buttes, shrubs, trees and windblown sand, all comprising the magnificent colors of the valley.  All of this harmoniously combines to make Monument Valley a truly wondrous experience.  Enjoy this beautiful land.

Larry J. gave an awesome tour in the Navajo lands of Monument Valley. He was knowledgeable and patient with our questions.

navajo nation guided tours

Our tour guide waited patiently for us to arrive as we were running thirty minutes behind, the time zone thing is real! Larry Team was our guide. He was friendly, courteous and full of great information about the history of Monument Valley. He gave us enough time at each point to take pictures and to explore. He helped us take family photos as well. It was excellent to be able to go into restricted areas and see some of the monuments up close. I highly recommend this tour.

This tour was well worth the cost! John was our tour guide, and he did an amazing guide! He was informative and funny! We saw so much! Make sure your battery is charged because you will take a lot of pics! Take the 8am slot as the weather was perfect!

- Janie Johnson

navajo nation guided tours

We took the 3.5 hour tour and it was the highlight of our trip. Larry was our guide. One of the guests on our tour wanted to see specific sites from a tv show filmed in Monument Valley and Larry made sure we visited those sites in addition to the regularly planned stops. FYI the extra stops were incredible. Larry explained so much about Navajo customs, culture, and government.

Experience the Magic of Wind Canyon!

Step into a sandstone canyon carved by wind, water, and time. Follow its rust-colored sandstone as you discover a natural beauty hidden in Navajo land. Let our Guides take you through this extraordinary slot canyon, full of excellent photo opportunities!

The Journey

Wind Canyon stretches over 800 meters. The tour takes approximately 2 hours. You must be able to walk and climb stairs. There will be minimal amounts of people in the canyon.

Your tour will start at our office. From there, you will be transported 6 miles in a 4-wheel drive vehicle to the entrance of the canyon. For your walking tour you will have a Navajo Guide who will educate you about the geography of the canyon you will visit along with some history of the area. At which point on your tour the narrow canyon will open up to what we call the Cathedral Room. You will want to stop and take a photograph. Wind Canyon has some truly unique views.

While less known than its popular siblings Antelope Canyon, Wind Canyon is made of the same spectacular red sandstone. The red sandstone is famous for its light shifting colors that can be cap[tured in a photograph. Cameras or cell phones are equally effective in the canyon. As an added bonus in Wind Canyon, you avoid the crowd experience with other tours.

Canyon de Chelly was the boyhood home of this cultured Navajo gentleman. His formidable knowledge of Canyon de Chelly is matched by his keen appreciation of Navajo history. Reggie focused on making our tour a great learning experience, he also knew the best locations for photos.

We lucked out and got Irene as our guide on a 4-hour private tour and we learned so much. She taught us about the history and Navajo beliefs all along the trip. She is a true treasure.

Spoiled my wife with a private tour, and it was terrific thanks to our guide, Harris Hardy. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable as well. Highly recommended. BTW, we stayed at the Thunderbird Lodge and were very happy. Tried Navajo food at the Best Western, which was also very good...not surprisingly since 90% of the patrons were Navajos.

We had our tour with Richard. We drove through the canyon and would stop every 5-10 minutes to get out of the car to get close up views of some of the paintings. Richard not only knew a ton about the canyon, but he also was extremely knowledgeable about the Navajo Nation in general. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to learn more about this monument!

We recently took a Canyon De Chelly Tour, with Richard T. as our guide! We truly enjoyed the canyon - but Richard's knowledge of not only the canyon, but also of the Navajo people, was what made the tour really special!

EXPLORE NAVAJO NATION PARK WITH US!

navajo nation guided tours

We had a very interesting tour, very interesting, well organized, with a super guide. 👍👍👍👍👍 He told us about the Valley, about the Indians, he and his colleague made Indian music for us. Very well done.

Better then any movies you have to see this for yourself! Just incredible in expanse and drama. I really enjoyed the 4x4 ride.

Wow! Beautiful area. Drove through here while in the area and definitely worth the drive! Such beautiful scenery and several photo ops!

Stopped here as a family with small kids. It's a must see one time in your life. We did a self guided tour in our own vehicle. We ate from the little shack on the trail (good tacos for dinner but just ok fry bread). We got to stop at our own convenience to take photos. Our van did get a little stuck going up the hill on the way out. They are dirt roads and our speed a little too slow for the steep incline.

This has been a bucket list location for me for many years! The trip lived up to my expectations in every way. I took a 3 1/2 hour guided tour with one of the many providers (Monument Valley Safari) which enhanced the visit due to the Navajo guide and being able to visit closed off locations! Some of those off road locations are accessible over some rough terrain but again, was well worth the bumps!

This is an incredible tour hosted by Jerry.

The experience was awesome! Our guide, Mikayl (spelling?) was fantastic and made our tour extremely fun. We felt safe and truly enjoyed the beauty of the canyon!

Very happy , our guide was knowledgeable, easy going. We had enough time to enjoy beautiful canyon.

I loved my tour of lower antelope canyon! My tour guide was awesome. She took pictures of us at certain points, which was so helpful since I took the tour without a friend. While I'm thankful to the Navajo for protecting this special place, I do think the price is high (the reason I toured it without my family)

Excellent guide

Magical and very well organized considering a high number of people.

If i could rate 10 stars i would! Awesome tour and the GOAT tour guide. Justin was awesome and got all the perfect Instagram pics for us. Highlight of our trip and loved every second of the tour. The time zone change will definitely mess with you tho! Definitely triple check the time there! BOOK THE TOUR

The tour exceeded our expectations. It was better than seeing the pictures on the internet. Antonio, the guide, was knowledgeable and supportive. My wife and I were at the upper end of the age and weight scale, AND with a bum knee, and we did it just fine (we huffed and puffed a bit on the steps...but we did it...and had plenty of opportunities to stop, look about, take pictures, and catch our breath).

Guide was amazing, the canyon was beautiful!!! Highly recommend

Enjoyed the tour and our host/driver was great!

Nice booking process.

Nice flow of booking process.

Ben was the best tour guide!! Amazing experience, simply stunning!! Ben was great at showing us the best possible photo opportunities, and taking plenty of photos of our family for us in just the right spots. I highly recommend this tour!!

Fantastic tour and Ben was a great tour guide!

Booking is so easy tons of information and very customer service oriented

The tour was awesome. Starting from the pickup till the drop everything was very nice. The tour guide to the canyon was very nice and was helping everyone taking nice photos.

Had an issue initially, I clicked one date and it confirmed another but I rang up and Louis fixed it for me right away. Thank you!

Good thank you

What an amazing place! We are so glad we were able to go. The tour company is very organized. Our Navajo guide, Malcolm was awesome!

Wonderful trip with Tyrone! He was funny and helped us get terrific pictures. Great guy. We had waited for years to see Antelope Canyon. Well worth it.

Easy handling for the ticket purchase. Thanks

Detailed information is well provided.

I had a great experience with this tour team. They responded my request for 1 person refund, they made it so quickly and smoothly. I really recommend this tour team!.

Great experience, our guide Jerry was great. Most beautiful scenery. A must see

Wonderful experience! It doesn't matter if you go with a large group, you can enjoy every single moment.

It was a long wait because the time slots were backed up from the rain. But it was still worth it!

Great experience

It was amazing

Making a reservation was very easy, and the guidance was well provided. Compared to other sites, the prices were reasonable. I will book a tour through this site again next time.

So far so good…it was easy to understand and we went through the steps to get our reservations in a timely manner. We are excited for our trip in March

Best customer service, quick response on emails.

Tony, our guide, did an awesome job! He is a wizard in photography to help you get some great photos! Great tour, highly recommended.

Our family of 6 loved this tour! Short enough (about 1 hr) to hold our kids attention yet long enough to get the most amazing photos!

Booking our trip was super simple!

Easy to use

We did the Lower Canyon and absolutely loved it. Staff at reception counter was courtesy and our guide had a fun personality and we appreciated his humor, he paid great attention to his group, we appreciated the history he shared with us about the area and canyon. Would recommend this tour group!

Thanks, every thing is perfekt!!

Axing experience! Jerry Sr was definitely a great tour guide!

It was easy, I hope the esperienze will be infine with fare that is quite expensive

It took me a moment to fully navigate the page, but the booking process was easy and transparent, and I didn't feel like I had to worry about fine print

This easily was one of the most indescribably beautiful places I’ve ever visited or experienced. Our guide Ana was amazing and took lots of photos of us, very helpful and informative. Do not miss this—truly amazing and the site of Microsoft screensavers and award winning photographs.

We had a really nice experience visiting Lower Canyon. Our guide explained and talked about the canyon, helped us with pictures . Thank you!

Great tour and guide

Fantastic world, knowledgeable staff, very satisfied. If I have a chance, I would like to visit again.

It was fast and easy.

Very good, smooth transaction and clear selections

Bruce & Marvin are awesome ! Recommend to book this two guided tours.

Everything was great. Staff were very nice and helpful. Driver was great I had an amazing time exploring the guide was very very knowledgeable and helpful.

Thanks for your help at booking process!

Easy to select date and time. Quick and efficient options led to a speedy process.

Easy booking process

It was great and wonderful experience. Guide was very kind and explaind lower antelope canyon detail.

Jimi Vegas was wonderful. He was funny and helpful. The bus should have been little clean. Everything else is fine.

Made it easy for me to book my tours. Very helpful and great with responding quickly to my questions.

We absolutely loved them , it’s just it is an expensive trip . But then it was worth … The people who work absolutely love their job and seems happy with their work . Thanks for the great experience

this is really good!!!

we loved the tour, we had the best guide " BEN" in the whole world, Ben gave us lot of interesting information, he was very patient and i think he was better than all the tour guides. Bocaue one group was behind us and one was front of us, but he was the only one i saw was very friendly and he took our pictures, he set up all of our phone, we were group of 12 ppl, he took every one of our pictures, greeted us in our language. Tour was good but he made it the BEST.

A must see in Page! Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. I would recommend not using the shuttle service, the waiting area is easy to drive to and you won’t have to sit around for long periods of time waiting for your driver.

The lower canyon tour is amazing! If you are able to hike it, I would suggest that one. Our tour guide Keanu was absolutely the best. Malcom also provided so much information. Keanu took the time to take photos for everyone in our group. As a photographer I can tell you, trust him with your phone. You will not be disappointed. The entire staff is polite and seems to be very proud of their natural wonder. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Great tour and friendly guides, quick 1h15 min tour right from the parking lot. Small Groups of 15 people but be prepared to wait. Canyon is narrow so single file is required. You can't bring bags of any type and good walking shoes are recommended. We went at 12pm in the winter but the sun wouldn't shine all the way down, summer probably better for lighting

The most beautiful place I have ever seen!! All the people were so friendly and our tour guides that we had were outstanding! I cant stop talking about how amazing everything was and everyone ive shown pictures to cant believe they are real. Definitely coming back again in the future!

Easy to book by using alternative tour options available

This was the most amazing experience. Our tour guide was so awesome and full of knowledge. He even showed us how to take some fun pictures and capture some amazing shots. Highly recommend booking with them!

Marvin and Leslie were top notch guides and I had an amazing time at the lower antelope Grand Canyon. I thought the hike was going to be longer and there was more time left but for some reason it was relatively short. The amount of stops and breaks was sufficient and vegetarian food was alright. I enjoyed the movies they played throughout the ride as well as the stories Marvin shared. My group was really great and we made it back to Vegas on time.

This was one of the highlights of our trip. Dena was our guide and she helped us take great photos and to experience the beauty and history of the canyon.

Good experience overall and prompt booking confirmation!

Super recommended excursion, the guides are friendly and explain the entire route very well

Malcom is one of the best guides I’ve ever met.

The booking process was easy, now just anxiously awaiting the trip.

Lower Antelope Canyon was an amazing experience. Our guide Jacob was awesome and not only told us all the stories of the canyon, but also pointed out the best photo shots and items of interest. He even played the music flute for us in the canyon. Our personal photos look like those on your website, which to capture the same image ourselves was not only fantastic but incredible. It was certainly a highlight of our canyon adventures and one that will always be remembered when back in Australia. Liza & Chris.

This was an experience we have been wanting to do for five years and so glad we finally did. Our driver/guide Rib was amazing. Incredibly informative and patient. Chris at Monument Valley and Muskogee at the canyon were also excellent. Only downside was we were taken unawares at how strenuous the climbing in the lower antelope canyon was. It was worth it, but at times was somewhat frightening. Myako couldn’t have been more helpful and patient.

Stop thinking and BOOK THIS TOUR!! Kyle was our guide and he was AMAZING! He showed us on his phone when the canyon had flooded, provided us with insight about the area and the Navajo, and played the Navajo flute for us. He also gave the best tips about photo taking and showed us the best place to take photos. He’s a genius! There was also a hoop dancer sharing his craft while we waited for the tour to begin. There was also a gift shop/snack bar! Be advised: they have a strict no bag policy; I saw some people arguing this point. It’s really no big deal, just plan ahead.

easy to book and we look forward to our upcoming experience to visit Lower Antelope Canyon later this month!

We had absolutely fabulous time at animal Canyon. Our guide, Eder, was amazing, and showed us how to get the best photos in the canyon. We almost didn’t go here on our two-week road trip, but some friends of ours suggested it and we are so glad we went out of our way to come here. One of the highlights of our trips.

Our guide, Tony, was amazing. He was very informative and gave us lots of information. He took time to help us set our camera settings for the best pictures and he even took pictures of us. All of our pictures turned out amazing. It is definitely worth the trip to see the lower canyon and I just can't say enough good things about our experience it was wonderful.

Our tour guide was amazing good and he made our visit memorable with a lot of knowledge. I guess his name was Robert Bluekake.

Great organization and very nice person!

Beautiful trip and explaination

It was an amazing experience & enjoyed our visit there

This is a long day but I have to give credit to the staff for making it all happen successfully and safely. From the early start to the late finish the staff politely kept us on time so we wouldn't miss our canyon walks while providing complimentary water, energy bars and later a turkey (or veg) sandwich. That said, what really kept me going was the humor and motivational steers from our host so a big thank you to the crew!

Fairly straightforward booking site for tours into Antelope Canyon.

Really, reallye great stuff. Our tourguide has done a good job - he made a lot of photos for us with many tips and tricks for using our phones (Apple &Samsung)

Magnifique visite d’un lieu magique. Organisation parfaite un guide pro et sympa… qui ma?trise la photo sur smartphone !!

We have been in the lower antelope 7:45 tour and it was beautiful. Huge credit to our guide Nate who knows every corner of the Canyon, is really friendly and funny and knows how to take the perfect picture in every single step. If you are doubt, you should definitely book this activity, it will add something special to your trip.

Superbe exp?rience, bon rythme avec le guide et la possibilit? de prendre beaucoup de photos. Guide tr?s sympathique et serviable. Je voyage solo et il a pris une dizaine de photos de moi avec sourire et gentillesse.

I have great time, it's beautful place.

It was an absolutely fantastic tour to see the Upper Antelope Canyon. The guide was very helpful with some great shots along the way. Spectacular.

Beautiful! Guide Amber was AWESOME, and so sweet! She took many pics for us, she knows the great spots for photos. Definitely recommend!

Excellent tour!

Beautiful tour!

Ken is a tour guide. He is very professional, respectful, fun, and well rounded. I will recommend this company because of Ken! Thank you for making this trip a beautiful memory. He took pictures for us, and please show the local tour guide your appreciation by listening to what to do and what not to do while your in there, also giving gratuity to the tour guide since he does such a great job taking your pictures! dont worry about not getting good pictures Ken knows what to do. Recommend!!!

Such a memorable visit. The location - the canyon - lived up to expectations, or actually exceeded them. The tour was world class. Our guide, Ian, was so knowledgeable, friendly and thoughtful. He gave us so much respect for Dixie, and the work culture you maintain. Thank you!

The trip was wonderful

We had a GREAT experience at the Lower Antelope Canyon!! Our guide Kevin was really nice and explained everything we asked (and by the way, he took the best photos ever!) We highly recommend this tour.

Our guide was amazing

Tour guide was the best !!!!!

Very easy. Thank’s

Jose was an super Guide, we had a wonderful time there.

As Canadians, we first thought the price was a bit steep but it was on our bucket list so we went ahead and booked. Well, what an amazing experience! Our guide Kayson was knowledgeable, funny and very helpful. He assisted us with our cameras to get the most perfect photos and constantly checked on our safety. I would highly recommend this tour and it was well worth every penny! Thank you!!

It was the most incredible tour we’ve ever been on! Our guide, Kayson, was extremely knowledgeable, humorous and helpful especially with assisting us to capture the best photos! Thank you so much!

A realy good Guide with beautiful pictures and a nice hour of Wow !!!

Fast Respond and can give suggestion from our inquiries

Luckily we booked the tour a couple of days before and managed to get a couple of spots for canyon X. The driver Wayne was great, very entertaining and did his best to ensure we had maximum time at Horseshoe and the Canyon. He gave a lot of interesting facts about vegas, places on the way and the canyons. He was very honest, friendly and funny. We also had an amazing guide at canyon X (Marco). He was patient with us, never rushed us and most importantly, he helped us get amazing pics that looked like a professional photographer took them. He recommended the best spots to take pics and even changed the settings on our phones for the best effects and took them for us at times. I wholeheartedly recommend the tour, it was a fantastic experience and I’m so glad I got to experience and see it in my lifetime. My only comment would be, for the high price and taking into account we only have two very short stop times/rest breaks, food or a lunch should have been included. We left at 5.30am and arrived back at 8pm. In the approx 5hrs on the way there, we only had 1x 20/25mins rest stop to use the bathroom and get food with only one very slow, understaffed, average food option available. There were much better places with more food options we could have stopped at for the break. The 20/25mins stop on the way back was MUCH better, great selection of food choices and a lot more staff around to help.

The trip was great, had a lot of fun. Leo and Marvin were great as well. Would recommend. Make sure you are on time though, they can be strict about it.

customer service staff was extremely friendly and helping explaining the details on the Lower Antelope and Horseshoe bend tour.

I really enjoyed it that was awesome!

That was really amazing experience!!

Excellent service. I loved every moment with them. Thank you so much!

Excellent trip. Outstanding crew. Safe drivers. Good caring like loved ones. Good knowledge sharing by wine(sorry if spelling is wrong). One suggestion: Bus staring point need be given correctly as we are new to that place and nobody knows Belly’s north point. It’s Uber pickup point. Better send the pinned location through SMS

Navajo Nation

Covering more than 27,000 square miles of desert landscape around the Four Corners region, Navajo Nation has many treasures to explore.

Crossing parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah, the Navajo Nation is home to major attractions known worldwide, including Monument Valley, Lake Powell and Antelope Canyon. From intimate, narrow slot canyon passageways to expansive scenic landscapes dotted with dramatic buttes, the Navajo Nation's natural attractions are otherworldly.

Cherished landscapes

Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park , one of the most recognized landscapes in the U.S., features sandstone masterpieces that seemingly explode out of the ground. Marvel at Mother Nature's handiwork, eroding massive rocks into interesting sculptures that reach heights of up to 1,000 feet. Two hours and 124 miles west of Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon's upper and lower canyons have inspired photographers for years. The upper canyon's walls rise 120 feet above the streambed, while the lower canyon—known as Hasdestwazi or "spiral rock arches"—requires the use of ladders and some skill to reach. Other remarkable, though less frequented, red rock canyons in the area to note are Mystical Antelope Canyon, Ligai Si Anii and Antelope Canyon X, each with unique attributes and adventure levels to experience. Note: All slot canyons on the Navajo Nation require a tour guide to accompany you on your hike. A 26-mile valley of greenery amongst the desert, Canyon de Chelly is the longest uninterrupted, human-inhabited area in the Colorado Plateau. Several periods of indigenous culture dating from 350 A.D. to 1300 A.D. have called the hundreds of ancient Puebloan ruins home, including Navajo families that raise livestock and tend farmlands to this day.

Trading posts

A meeting point for Navajo people to sell their wares, purchase supplies and even socialize, trading posts were an important lifeline following the Long Walk of 1864. A number of historic trading posts have been preserved and remain in business, many located in their original buildings. The Hubbell Trading Post —the oldest continuously operating trading post on the Navajo Nation and in the United States—was established in 1876 and is a National Historic Site. Browse authentic Navajo crafts, explore exhibits, attend rug-weaving demonstrations and take a self-guided tour of the original 160-acre homestead.

Museums & culture

Several museums educate visitors about the Navajo Nation’s land, history and ceremonial life, including the 7,000-square-foot Explore Navajo Interactive Museum in Tuba City. Nearby, the Navajo Code Talkers Museum showcases how the For ode Talkers transmitted information on tactics, troop movements, orders and other vital battlefield information via telegraphs and radios in their native dialect during World War II. The system was far faster than Morse code, and it has been said that, if not for the Code Talkers, the Marines would have never taken Iwo Jima.

Testimonials

"We took the Crow Canyon tour and it was a wonderful experience, educational and deeply moving. We learned so much about the history of that magical place and the many people who have moved through it down the centuries. Kialo, Terri, and Gilbert were so warm and welcoming that we very quickly felt as if we were walking with old friends."
"TERRI & KIALO ARE INCREDIBLE GUIDES. We took a wonderful 5 hour walk in Bistah, and Kialo & Terri shared cultural and informative information about the area. Since we are retirees, and have limited abilities, Kialo and Terri were respectful to our abilities throughout the tour. We had plenty of rest and snacks on the tour. We have traveled to a lot of places across the U.S., and this is now our favorite spot!"
There can be no better way to view Chaco than through the eyes and mind of a Native American, and this experience was given to us by Kialo Winters, founder and owner of Navajo Tours USA. Because our vehicle was not appropriate for the road going into Chaco, Kialo met us and drove us into the canyon. During that portion of the trip, he talked about his family, his life, and growing up on the reservation. As we entered the site, we were awed by the grandeur, the vastness, and the serenity of Chaco. Kialo knows Chaco. He spoke of the history of the site, the development, the architecture, and the lifestyles of the people. He spoke of the geology and the expansion well beyond the impressive Pueblo Bonito. He was generous in answering all our questions and in taking good care of his guests. He provided an experience beyond our expectations and one to be long remembered. Highly recommend.
