Plan the perfect family day trip to Ocean Park

Where to get tickets and transport.

Tickets can be easily purchased in all parts of Hong Kong, such as in 7-Eleven stores and travel agencies. However, if you’re looking for a good deal, check Ocean Park’s website for regular ticket deals or even hotel packages that include tickets to the theme park. The easiest way to head to Ocean Park is by MTR. Interchange to the South Island line in Admiralty station and you’ll reach Ocean Park station in 6 minutes.

Family fun

Popular attractions

Upon entering the park, you’ll arrive at The Waterfront, home to attractions such as the world-class, marine-themed Aqua City, interactive exhibit Amazing Asian Animals, and the activity-filled Whiskers Harbour. You’ll be able to engage in child-friendly carnival games at Whiskers Harbour, where little ones can hop on rides like Bouncer House, Frog Hopper, Merry-Go-Round, and Toto the Loco train ride.

Family fun

Crossing over to The Summit via the iconic cable car ride, tourists can admire the beautiful green mountains and glistening sea. If you want to skip the cable car queues and reach The Summit faster, take the 4-minute Ocean Express train, which simulates an underwater adventure inside a submarine! Once you’re at The Summit, be prepared for a splash on The Rapids and Raging River wet rides and remember to put on your biggest smile for the cameras as the boat rushes down the giant water slopes. Not thrilling enough for you? Go on some scream-inducing rollercoasters such as the Hair Raiser and The Flash for an exhilarating experience. Last but certainly not least, don’t leave without going to The Abyss for a VR space voyage, where you’ll be transported through space on an extra-terrestrial mission before plummeting back down to earth through virtual reality headsets.

Family fun

Educational encounters

For visitors who prefer a deeper educational experience, Ocean Park has plenty more animal exhibitions. Observe otters at Panda Village and furry koalas at Adventure in Australia, discover native pandas at Amazing Asian Animals and sharks at Shark Mystique, and check out the adorable king penguins at Polar Adventure! The theme park also offers special animal experiences, where you and the kids can get up close with animals, learn about wildlife conservation as well as animals’ daily routines, and see for yourself how their trainers take care of them.

Family fun

A rest with a view

There is a lot of ground to cover at Ocean Park, so for a midday break, catch a show at the Ocean Theatre about an adventurer’s journey to discovering the beauty of the sea and its inhabitants. Afterwards, make your way towards Ocean Park Tower, a rotating, 360-degree observation tower that soars 200m above sea level for guests to look beyond the park and appreciate the gorgeous views of Aberdeen and the outlying islands.

Bring the day to an end by taking photos at Old Hong Kong, a street dedicated to the 1950s to 1970s era in Hong Kong with retro decorations, street food, games, and souvenirs — a perfect set-up for visitors to understand and get a glimpse into Hong Kong’s past. For a touch of night-time fun, your Ocean Park experiences continue into the evening with Gala of Lights, an interactive multimedia show filled with dazzling performances and an immersive dance of light and fountains. Get swept away on an oceanic adventure to round out your trip!

Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong

Where to eat and stay

Next door to the theme park, Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel is a vibrant, nature-inspired hotel with three different family-themed rooms — Whiskers Submarine, Redd Forest, and Bao Bao Paradise. The close proximity to Ocean Park and cheerful decor make it an ideal place to stay for family getaways. Alternatively, The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong offers a relaxing and tranquil retreat adjacent to the Water World Ocean Park , with well-appointed guest rooms overlooking the South China Sea.

Neptune’s Restaurant

As for dining options, there’s no need to fret if you get hungry during the day. Families can settle down at Neptune’s Restaurant for some Chinese fine dining next to the restaurant’s giant viewing panel of the Aquarium, chow down on delicious pizza and other East-meets-West fusion dishes at Tuxedos Restaurant, or enjoy a relaxing night of open-fire charcoal-grill Thai food at Ginger Grill. If you’re staying at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel or the Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong, dine at the hotels’ restaurants, or treat yourself with 24-hour room service if you’re looking to escape the crowds for a few hours.

Useful tips

  • Seasonal activities and special festive events will take place during summer holidays, Halloween, and Christmas at Ocean Park. Bigger crowds are expected.
  • Visitors planning to spend a long time at the penguin exhibition should consider bringing a jacket to stay warm in the 8-10°C room.
  • Download the Ocean Park Hong Kong mobile app ahead of time to check show times and the park map.

Ocean Park Hong Kong entrance

Ocean Park Hong Kong guide, sample itinerary, tips (2024)

Is Ocean Park Hong Kong worth visiting and why is it famous? Aside from the sights and the food, a lot of tourists also go to Hong Kong  usually to shop or go to a theme park or both. One of the most popular attractions in Asia’s World City is Ocean Park Hong Kong where nature appreciation and entertainment are rolled into one. A favorite of families, couples, and friends!

The main reason I wanted to go to Ocean Park was to see the Giant Panda. And the penguins too! I find these creatures so fascinating and I know that it will be a long time before I saw either in the wild so we allotted one day in our Hong Kong trip just to enjoy Ocean Park Hong Kong.

About Ocean Park Hong Kong 香港海洋公園

The theme park located in the southern part of Hong Kong is one of the places you can visit in Hong Kong.

Aside from marine animals, visitors will also get to see animals from Asia and other parts of the world like the Giant Panda and penguins. There are also lots of thrill rides and entertainment shows to choose from.

There’s even a section dedicated to Old Hongkong during the ’50s to ’70s where a vintage tram is also exhibited.

The theme park is divided into two – Waterfront and the Summit . And you can go between the two sides via cable car, train, or an outdoor elevator. The park sits on 915 sqm of land.

Aside from being a theme park, Ocean Park Hong Kong is also said to be an international conservation center and is certified under the Humane Conservation program . Like other marine parks and aquariums, it also had its fair share of criticism regarding the treatment of animals and its efforts regarding conservation and education on animal life.

How to get to Ocean Park Hong Kong

If you don’t have your own car, you can take public transportation to reach Ocean Park Hong Kong through the following options:

You can take the MTR South Island Line and embark on the Ocean Park Station. Check ticket fare and ride duration here.

You can also take the bus from Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, or New Territories but in my opinion, taking the train would be easier and less hassle. To know which buses you need to take, check here .

*NOTE : You can pay for MTR or bus tickets using the Octopus Card

What to see and do – One day inside Ocean Park Hong Kong

With a sprawling 91 million sqm, you won’t be able to see and do everything in just one day. So to help you decide what to include in your Ocean Park itinerary, here are the attractions and entertainment available.

The Waterfront

ocean park hong kong grand aquarium

This will be the area you’ll get to explore after getting inside Ocean Park. Should you wish to stay first in this area, you can start your day by visiting Aqua City .

With over 5,000 fish from over 400 species, you won’t run out of animals to gawk at the Grand Aquarium . We had loads of fun watching the octopus, lionfish, seahorses, sharks, and schools of different fish. It was a very good peek at how diverse and colorful the underwater world is.

After that, head to  Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures where you’ll get to meet a Giant Panda along with the Golden Monkeys.

If you aren’t tired of seeing animals yet, pass by Adventures in Australia where you’ll get to see Koalas, Wallabies, and Kookaburras!

old hong kong st ocean park

If you have kids with you, Sea Life Carousel is just nearby or you can head straight to Old Hong Kong and have a blast from the past 50s to 70s. This is the area where you need to go if you want to take the cable car going up to the Summit.

If you aren’t ready to go up yet, head towards Amazing Asian Animals especially the Giant Panda Adventure where you’ll get to see Giant Panda and Red Panda. It was a dream come true for me, as I have always wanted to see the adorable Giant Panda even behind a glass. I was grateful to have seen Jia Jia, a Guinness World record holder for being the oldest living Giant Panda in captivity before she passed away that same year.

giant panda jia jia ocean park

In this area, you’ll also get to see other animals such as goldfish (Goldfish Treasures), otters (Panda Village), Chinese Alligators (Gator Marsh), birds (Amazing Bird Theatre), and Chinese salamanders ( Giant Panda Adventure ).

Further towards the deep water bay is Whiskers Harbour where the young ones can go on rides such as Merry-Go-Round , Clown A Round , Balloons Up-Up-and-Away , Frog Hopper , and Toto the Loco . Playgrounds are also available.

cable car to summit ocean park

Either take the Cable Car or the Ocean Express to get to The Summit. We took the Cable Car going up and were rewarded with views of the park then the lush greenery and the waters until we saw the rides at The Summit.

ocean park hong kong whirly bird

Grownups looking forward to thrills better head to Thrill Mountain first where you’ll scream at the top of your lungs while aboard rides such as the rollercoaster Hair Raiser and The Flash.  Other rides include the Whirly Bird , Rev Booster , and Bumper Blaster .

If you’re a fan of the Happy Feet movies, head towards Polar Adventure where you’ll see different species of penguins at the South Pole Spectacular . Up the fun by visiting during their feeding times. You can also see walruses ( North Pole Encounter ) and Arctic Fox ( Arctic Fox Den ) or ride the Arctic Blast .

the rapids ocean park

Be prepared to get wet at The Rapids located in the Rainforest . You’ll ride in a raft along with 8 other people (max) and go on a ride through the different terrain inside the “jungle”.

If you’re still looking for more thrill and adventure, head towards Marine World where rides such as The Abyss and The Dragon are located.  Other rides include the spinning Eagle , the swinging Crazy Galleon , Ferris Wheel , and Flying Swing .

ocean park the abyss ferris wheel south china sea

Take in the panoramic views of Ocean Park and surrounding Hong Kong islands atop the Ocean Park Tower or be amazed by the often misunderstood sharks at the Shark Mystique exhibit.

You can also spot seals and sea lions from the Pacific Pier , watch thousands of fluorescent jellies at the Sea Jelly Spectacular , or head to the Ocean Theatre for the daily shows.

sea lions ocean park hong kong

If you still aren’t tired yet, go on the world’s second-longest outdoor escalator to Adventure Land where the first VR coaster in Hong Kong can be found – the Mine Train ! Raging Rapids is another chance to get wet while on a ride so be ready with your waterproof jacket or change of clothes.

Head back to Thrill Mountain to ride on the Ocean Park Express . The 4-minute and 1.3-kilometer ride can take up to 5,000 people per hour from Waterfront to Summit (or vice-versa).

Stay until 8:00 PM to watch the world’s first 360-degree water screen show at the Aqua City Lagoon. Symbio is a 15-minute multimedia show about two dragons. This show is very impressive and for me, it is more worth it to watch than the light and sound show at Victoria Harbour.

Where to eat | Restaurants inside Ocean Park

There are lots of dining options both at the Waterfront and Summit. You can choose from the different restaurants and food kiosks based on your taste and budget.

Restaurants located on the Waterfront: Ginger Grill, Club Panda, Neptune’s Restaurant, Lakeside Chill Bar, Aqua City Bakery

Restaurants located at the Summit: Cafe Ocean, Terrace Cafe, The Bayview Restaurant, Tuxedos Restaurant

Payment options for restaurants:  Visa, Master, AE, Union, Apple Pay, Android Pay, Alipay, or Cash. Octopus Card is accepted at Aqua City Bakery, Panda Cafe, The Bayview and Cafe Ocean. There is a 10% service charge at the following restaurants: Tuxedos, Neptune’s, and Terrace Cafe.

We ate at The Bayview Restaurant for lunch because the discounted tickets that we got during the travel expo also included food vouchers. We had another voucher for the main course but I forgot it so we used the Afternoon Tea Set voucher instead (also applicable at Panda Cafe).

What we got was nothing like the picture on the voucher though. But at least, we got a small Haagen Dazs ice cream. The restaurant was still packed even though we ate at around 3 PM and had to get a number for queueing to be seated.

bayview restaurant from cable car

Before the light and sound show, we also ate at the Aqua City Bakery. HKD38 for one chocolate eclair.

Expect to pay higher prices for bottled water. Halal food is available at Club Panda.

Ocean Park Roller Coaster

There are currently two (2) roller coasters at Ocean Park for you to enjoy: Arctic Blast and Hair Raiser

  • Arctic Blast (Summit – Polar Adventure) – For ages 4 and above, this snow-themed roller coaster will have you and the kids riding against a Polar backdrop.
  • Hair Raiser (Summit – Thrill Mountain) – Floorless loop roller coaster located near the South China Sea hurtling you at top speeds of 88 km/hr. Not for the faint-hearted!

Tips for visiting

What to pack and bring | what to wear:.

Always consider the weather when packing or considering what to wear during your trip to Ocean Park. Also, some rides like The Rapids will get you wet so bring a change of shirt or bring a waterproof jacket.

Footwear choice is very important as you will spend the whole day walking.

Pack items that will help protect you from the sun or rain like a folding umbrella, cap, sunscreen, sunglasses, or foldable jacket.

Prohibited items include dangerous and hazardous objects as well as food and drinks.

cable car to summit from bayview restaurant

Best time to visit | Best day to visit:

For almost any theme park, the best days to visit would be during weekdays since weekends including Fridays attract more customers. Take note of the holidays as those dates also bring in more people.

If you want to go during the chilly weather, plan your trip for December to February.

Visiting during the rainy season

Depending on how severe the rains are, some rides can be closed by the management for safety reasons.

We visited during the wet season and although there were scattered light rain showers during the day, it didn’t deter us from enjoying the park. July to September are usually the months that see rain and typhoons.

Hi Darlene,

To be honest, Hong Kong is not a destination that appears on the bucket list of any traveler. But that’s sure going to change since you have provided an apt reason to visit it through this post. There seems a lot of things to do at Ocean Park. The efforts you put in for highlighting the park is impressive. The sample itinerary that you have provided is also very useful. I am sure, if travelers abide by it, they can enjoy a lot and cover up many things in one day.

Oh my gosh! This place looks like so much fun!

The Water Front

Closer to the entrance is the Waterfront. It has some of the most exciting rides in the park, including the Aqua City and Amazing Asian Animals.

The Summit is the other area, connected to the Waterfront via Cable Cars and the themed Ocean Express. Top attractions at the Summit are Chinese Sturgeon Aquarium and Thrill Mountain.

Insider Tip : Since the Waterfront is closer to the main entrance, most of the visitors tend to begin there. It would be wise to start at the Summit instead and roll back to the Waterfront later in the day to work against the crowds.

The pirate ship themed rides are a must at all parks. The Crazy Galleon is Ocean Park's version of the classic swinging ship. It is the absence of secure seat belts that make it an attractive option for visitors. It may seem unsafe to you if you are not accustomed to thrill rides.

6. The Dragon

The Dragon has held its place at Ocean Park Hong Kong for years now. The roller coaster is quite thrilling with its three loops and a climactic corkscrew. The serene South China Sea is visible from The Dragon, providing a wonderful contradiction to the thrilling experience on the ride.

5. The Abyss

The Abyss features a steady ascent to a height and then a plunging drop. This kind of rides is becoming increasingly popular at theme parks, given the sudden rush of adrenaline during the descent. 1. The Flash

By far the scariest ride at Ocean Park Hong Kong, The Flash is recommended only for the ones with nerves of steel. Top Ocean Park Hong Kong Tickets

Hong Kong is a hot tourist destination in Asia. So whenever the weather is favorable, you will see a surge in the crowd. The best time of the year to be in Hong Kong is Autumn, during the months of September, October, and November. The crowds are slim before the holiday period hits, and the temperatures are cool and breezy during these months.

As for the best time to visit the park, reach early as soon as the doors open as the crowds only increase through the day. A great way to avoid the crowds would be to start at the Summit half of the Park and work your way down to the Waterfront. Most people follow the reverse as the Waterfront is at the entrance, hence working against the crowds can help you avoid standing in long queues.

Read what past visitors have to say about this fun amusement park. We hear only good things!

This is my first time to visit Ocean Park. Since I have been here in 2005 and been here often after that. I took the train to Ocean Park station which right in front of the park in May 2019. The weather is good cool but not cold and not too much sunny but rained in the late afternoon. The part after the entrance was so chill with a good aquarium. I and friends have chance to took the cable car to the second park behind the hill which the extreme part. So cable car is small, we open the cable car window to see the good view of Pacific ocean and repulsed bay. So I think it is a huge park in the good location for amusement park.

ToroK2, Tripadvisor 2019

Ocean park is a place you will never get bored to go visit . They provide different variety of activities for elderly, kids, teenagers to spend a whole day there. Great variety of sea animals like sharks, different fish, sea lion and etc, land animals such as panda, kangaroo and etc which will surely win kids’ heart. They have exciting rides, or comparatively mild ride Ferris wheels, and kids rides to entertain all ages of visits. Flowers, trees, many types of goldfishes makes people feel so peaceful and relaxing. If you can’t finish all activities in a day, there is a newly built hotel next to the park and you can stay there and continue your exciting journey the next day.

  • Dates & Prices

This short Moscow tour will give you a true taste of the history, culture and incomparable urban vibe that define one of the world’s largest metropolises. In just three days, this Moscow itinerary takes in all the most iconic sights of this attraction-packed destination. After two and half days getting acquainted with the city, we’ve set time aside for you to explore Moscow your way and discover your own favourite hang-outs in a city overflowing with hidden treasures

3-Day Moscow Tour Highlights:

  • Panoramic Tour of Moscow: See Moscow beyond the postcard images on a private excursion by car through the city streets including a drive along the banks of the Moskva River. Visit the famous Bolshoi Theatre, pass by Gorky Park and the Novodevichy Convent, and admire the city from on high at the Sparrow Hill observation platform.
  • Moscow Historical City Centre Guided Walking Tour : Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of one of the world’s biggest metropolises and discover local haunts on foot, including the Red Square, the Kremlin and the multi-coloured domes of St Basil’s Cathedral.
  • Armory Chamber tour: Explore the endless treasures of this unique museum, displaying the wealth accumulated by Russian rulers from the 12th century until the October Revolution of 1917. Walking through the exhibition halls is a journey through the centuries.
  • Moscow Metro Tour : Go deep underground on a subway tour of the famous Moscow metro. The world’s deepest metro system is renowned for its palatial, art-adorned stations, complete with marble columns and chandeliers.

On your first day, you’ll be treated to a panoramic, drive-by tour of Moscow to get a feel for the immense scale of one of the world’s most rapidly developing urban centres. The city’s history unfolds in real-time as you pass lavish imperial mansions, solemn Soviet structures and luxurious modern shopping centres.

Day two kicks off exploring Moscow’s historic centre on foot, followed by a tour of the Kremlin, the seat of Russian power and political intrigue for centuries. Stand in the Red Square, surrounded by the stunning architecture as you hear stories of the people and events behind many of Moscow’s most iconic landmarks.

On your final day, we’ll head beneath the city for a tour of the Moscow Metro and its famously ornate underground stations. Art lovers should hit up one of Moscow’s many world-class galleries such as the Tretyakov State Gallery, the Pushkin Museum or Garage, Moscow’s cutting-edge contemporary art museum. History fans can follow a Soviet trail through the city including Stalin’s Bunker, while those seeking a more indulgent experience can browse trendy neighbourhoods like Kitay Gorod or shop for everything from fashion to kitsch souvenirs at the enchanting Izmaylovo Flea Market. Foodies can head to one of the countless speciality stores sampling vodka, caviar and chocolate.

If you only have a few days to spend in Moscow, this tour will ensure you make the most of your time in the city. Let the experts navigate you through this complex and occasionally overwhelming capital, giving you plenty of time to soak up the city’s most unmissable attractions.

Russia Moscow Tour

Day 1 Panoramic city tour

Welcome to the glorious capital of Russia, Moscow! You’ll be met by your driver at the airport and taken to your centrally located hotel.

After check-in and rest, meet your private guide at the hotel lobby for a comprehensive tour of Moscow by car. Visit the starkly contrasting Theatre Square to see the stunning Bolshoi Theatre, pass Tverskaya Street, the city’s main boulevard and home to the landmark Yeleseyevskiy Grocery Store.

You’ll enjoy a panoramic drive along the Moskva River, where a huge, controversial state of Peter the Great was erected. Pass by the legendary Gorky Park and the White House before a stop at the architecturally stunning Novodevichy Convent, and the observation platform at Sparrow Hills, for a bird’s eye view over this staggering megalopolis.

Day 2 Red Square and Kremlin

After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the historical city centre. Stroll through the Red Square, the hub of cultural life in Moscow, with its elaborate ‘stone flower’ fountain and fantasy-like St Basil’s Cathedral – a postcard-perfect symbol of the nation. Admire the grandiose façade of GUM, the city’s most luxurious shopping centre, and visit Alexander’s Garden, with its eternal flame and the chance to watch a changing of the guards.

Break for lunch before continuing on a tour of the Kremlin and Armoury Chamber, famous of its collection of tsarist fashion, with regalia such as jewel-encrusted crowns, orbs and sceptres as well as arms and armour, exotic gifts from the leaders of faraway lands, and an illustrious case of Imperial Faberge eggs.

As an option* spend an evening on a sumptuous dinner cruise, taking in the stunning sights and city lights of this mesmerising metropolis by night.

Day 3 Metro and Arbat Street

Start a day with a tour of Metro, stopping on the way to marvel at some of the most elaborately decorated stations of the world-famous Moscow subway system. Take a stroll along Old Arbat street - the most famous street in Moscow. Through the centuries Arbat used to be one of the most bohemian places in Moscow. Today Arbat is a promenade full of small cozy cafes and street life.

The afternoon is free for you to either enjoy the rest of the day on your own or choose among optional excursions to explore more of Moscow. Visit the Tretyakov Gallery or Pushkin State Museum to admire Russian art. Join locals for a stroll at the Gorky or VDNH park.

Visit beautiful Kolomeskoye Estate or Izmailovo Kremlin, or spend a day exploring the beautiful city of the Golden Ring (Russian province) - Sergiev Posad. In the evening you will be transferred to the airport for your departure to your next destination.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
