A Week In Palawan, Philippines

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Some of the other reviews had issues with the hotels, I actually thought they were quite quality locations. Each had an attentive front desk, hot water, and amenities were available for purchase. The tour itself packs a lot into a short time frame. I was tired at the end of it, but in a good way. I actually liked that the week ended with the town tour of Coron, because it was a little more low key and less active than the other days, which was necessary.

10 Days Do The Philippines Adventure Tour - Palawan Islands

This was an amazing 10 day tour of the Palawan islands in the Philippines. Starting at Puerto Prinsesa we journeyed up north through El Nido to Coron. Visiting must see locations with breathtaking views, it truly is an experience of a lifetime. The food was amazing and greatly exceeded all expectations, and our tour guide Jovian was excellent. He was so friendly and lively, doing his best to accommodate everyone, and make sure everything runs smoothly. He was very supportive of me and went above and beyond when I had an unfortunate injury at one of the beaches we went to. Overall the trip wouldn’t have been the same without him, he was one of the many highlights on this tour.

We had some disruption to our water activities due to high waves in Palawan, but Ian and Michael pivoted the activities so they were still fun and engaging. I booked the tour to just relax and let someone else do the planning for me and it worked wonderfully. Would book again with Intrepid.

Palawan Getaway 5D/4N

This was a great itinerary! My only regret is that it wasn't longer - Palawan is beautiful and I didn't want to leave. El Nido was gorgeous and in my opinion better than Puerto Princesa. The hostel in El Nido (Our Melting Pot) was great - super social and full of young backpackers. It was also on the main strip, so there were loads of restaurants and bars, and it was about 5 min walk away from the beach. The tour there is just fab and the lagoons are beautiful. Lunch was included (there was a grill on the back of the boat, so we just anchored up in a quiet stretch of water and ate there). In Puerto I did the underground river tour which was amazing and I've never seen anything quite like it. The tour ended a little early and we were given the option to do a zipline from one island to another - so much fun and definitely recommended if you have the chance! The hotel in Puerto was a B&B and was very homely and friendly, however it was a little further away from the centre of town so there were not as many things to do within walking distance. Be aware that this tour is very self-directed and a lot of the time you have to get yourself from Point A to Point B - i.e. you are not ferried around in a group. The tours and transfers are public tours so you're in a group which changes every day, and not in a consistent tour group (which was totally fine for me, but just to be aware of). The transfers between Puerto and El Nido took around 5-6 hours in a van, the roads are very windy and bumpy so it wasn't the most comfortable - but there is a stop half way, and the views along the coastal road were really great. Overall - a great intro to Palawan with some amazing sights.

We had an incredible time on our tour of the Philippines! Everyone went above and beyond to ensure our trip was absolutely perfect! Camping under the stars on our own private island was the highlight, as well as having lunch on a secluded island amongst a busy day of island hopping. This is a self-guided tour though, which we weren’t entirely sure about before coming over, so probably wouldn’t advise doing if you’re a solo traveler as you will be by yourself for the full 8 days.. otherwise would 100% recommend this tour!

I think this tour is amazing, you get to see the most beautiful beaches ever, so many pretty island and you get to experience local things aswell and i love that. the tour guide, Jet also the best, was always there if we needed them and i love his vibe.

This was one of the best trips I've done. The itinerary was the perfect mix of activities and down time & I felt, hit the key places I'd travel to if doing it fully solo. Whilst the tour itself and the people I met on it were a big part of me having the best time, it wouldn't have been the same without our tour leader Andri. He helped join the group together before we even started and made everyone feel included once we got there. He was the best mix of chilled and reliable, super knowledgeable and put the needs of the group first like the wonderfully caring human he is. We always knew what we were doing and when and it felt like he made the trip run so smoothly - I only had to worry about turning up and having a good time. If you're thinking about booking this DO IT (and pray you'll have Andri has your leader)

The tour was fantastic. Tour guide was great and very entertaining. Food was great. We enjoyed it a lot. There were 20 of in the boat and our guide managed to entertain us. Tourist spots are nice except with the big waves. Overall it was a fun filled day.

Puerto Princesa is often the gateway to the province of Palawan since more flights are going here than to other airports. Your choice of entry point will affect your budget and itinerary, so it's best to look into which place best fits your preferences.

The easiest and most common way to go to Palawan is by riding a plane, with Puerto Princesa as the main jump-off. There are also flights going to El Nido, Coron, and San Vicente.

However, more flights are going to Puerto Princesa, and it covers international flights aside from domestic. Read more below to learn how you can travel to Palawan through different routes.

Via Puerto Princesa

Domestic and international flights to Puerto Princesa are available almost daily. If you're coming from Manila, the travel time is just over an hour. There are also flights from Clark (Pampanga), Iloilo, Cebu, and Davao going to Puerto Princesa.

It is the usual route of travelers who want to explore the main island of Palawan, which also includes El Nido and San Vicente/Port Barton, which you can reach by bus or van.

Via El Nido

If you want to explore only or go to El Nido first, the fastest option from Manila is to fly directly to Lio Airport. AirSwift is currently the only airline that services this route with up to four flights per day. The travel time is around 1 hour and 20 minutes.

From Lio Airport, El Nido's Town Proper is easily accessible by land travel of 30 minutes. It is a quicker option than flying from Puerto Princesa then traveling by land to El Nido for 5-6 hours.

Coron is located on a separate group of islands above the main island of Palawan. You can go here by flying to Francisco B. Reyes Airport or Busuanga Airport for around 1 hour of travel time from Manila. Most major domestic airlines have daily flights going here from significant destinations like Manila, Clark (Pampanga), and Cebu.

From the airport, you can reach Coron's Town Proper by land travel of around half an hour. From Coron, you can reach El Nido by a 4-hour ferry. From El Nido, you can explore Puerto Princesa and San Vicente/Port Barton by land travel.

Via San Vicente/Port Barton

A newer entry point to Palawan is the emerging tourist destination called San Vicente/Port Barton, located between Puerto Princesa and El Nido. From Manila (1 hour) or Clark (Pampanga) (1.5 hours), you can directly fly to San Vicente airport.

From San Vicente, you can also explore Puerto Princesa and El Nido by land travel.

By Ferry via Puerto Princesa

Since it's an island, Palawan is also accessible by ferry rides from Manila. It is, however, more extended in travel time. Your entry point is Puerto Princesa. 2Go Travel has trips for this route every Tuesday and Friday, with a travel time of almost a day.

Getting Around Palawan

If you're coming from Palawan's main island destinations and want to travel to/from destinations like Puerto Princesa, El Nido, and San Vicente/Port Barton, then riding a public bus is one of your options. You have the option to ride an ordinary (non-AC) or air-conditioned bus.
