Pentatonix will proudly present their Pentatonix: A Christmas Spectacular! 2022 Tour at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Special guests are Season 21 winners of The Voice , Girl Named Tom, will open the night as the tour’s special guests, guaranteeing a spectacular evening and this holiday season’s best concert opportunity! In tandem with the tour, Pentatonix will unveil their 11 th overall full-length and sixth-holiday album, Holidays Around The World , on October 28 th via RCA Records . The record consists of stunning renditions of seasonal staples and show-stopping original international collaborations, living up to the promise of its title and speaking to audiences around the globe. More details will be announced in the coming weeks. Pentatonix is an American a cappella pop/soul group from Arlington, Texas consisting of Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstie Maldonado, Avi Kapian and Kevin Olusola.

Pentatonix was formed when Martin High School friends, Kirsten “Kirstie” Maldonado, Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying came together to enter a contest to meet the cast of the television show, “Glee.” Together they arranged a version of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” and even though they did not win the competition, they gained attention both locally and globally when they posted their version of the song on youtube.

After graduating from high school, the three members parted ways for separate colleges. While attending classes a University of Southern California, Hoying joined an a capella group called SoCal Vocals. It was during his time in this group that he heard about a television singing competition called “The Sing-Off.” This inspired Hoying to persuade Maldonado and Grassi to join together once again and enter the competition; however, the rules required a minimum of four people. This led to Hoying recruiting Kaplan, who had a highly recognized bass voice, to join the group as well. Eventually they also added Olusola, who had garnered attention through his youtube video of him simultaneously playing the cello and beatboxing. The group met the day before the competition and successfully auditioned for the show, eventually taking away the title.

After winning season three of the show, they were signed to Sony-owned Madison Gates Records. During the recording process, the group would post up some of the cover songs to their youtube account, some of which went on to go viral. By January 2012 they released their first EP entitled “PTX, Volume 1,” which sold 20,000 copies in its first week. They followed up with a Christmas album later that same year, and they made many television appearances to promote both albums, and went on tour for most of early 2013. They released a second EP while on tour, all while simultaneously posting more videos of their cover songs on youtube. The release of their third studio album, “PTX Vol. III,” which was released in fall 2014, debuted at Number 5 on the Billboard Top 200 album charts.

Live reviews

I saw them in Syracuse, NY only about two hours from my town. I had the VIP Meet and Greet and I was so excited that I was literally shaking. The opportunity to talk with and take selfie's individually with each of the band members was amazing. They sang a song for us off mic such amazing a cappella and it was so wonderful!! We had an opportunity to have each of them sign one item. I had downloaded a candid picture from a Facebook post printed it out and had them sign it. What made this even more special was Matt telling me that that was a picture taken at their first gig when he joined the band.

We got a chance to have a picture taken with all 5 of them. I have not gotten access to it yet but that too was amazing. Then they did a sound check on stage with all of us in the pit area, followed by a Q&A session. I had the best time. Then the whole concert was amazing! I would so recommend seeing them live, and if you can save up and do one of the VIPs please do. I saw them once before in Pennsylvania for Avi's next to last show in the pouring rain after a 6 Hour drive. Obviously I loved it enough to go again.

If you need a pick me up and want original sound and lyrics then go see Pentatonix live in concert. They are so awesome and amazingly good. I cannot believe how many original songs can come out of one group. They sing from their heart and you can honestly tell. Being as there is only one female in the group, it is easy to hear how angelic her voice really is. The other guys are amazing as well. The harmonies fit together so well. Pentatonix is just a down to earth group that is not looking to go over the top. Their concert stage is nothing more than the average stage.

They can capture the attention of a crowd on the first note that they sing. I remember standing there and hearing that first note and being like WOW! Such big voices and beautiful melodies. I get chills just thinking about the music they make. I enjoy all of their music and especially like when they sing covers of other artists. I m so glad that I decided to see them that day because it gave e a whole new experience and it was well worth the money. I definitely think everyone needs to see Pentatonix because they are very original and will not let you down.

Pentatonix is the collective name of the Texan acapella musicians who rose to prominence after their victory on the third season of The Sing-Off. The platform not only won them a huge prize fund, but also global recognition and a readymade fanbase. Their upbeat, jovial personalities and pop based songs could make even the most cynical person smile and tap their feet as their personality and music is simply infectious.

Although they are exclusively a cover band, the group still has chance to showcase their specific vocal abilities due to the range of tracks covered. Tonight they include classic songs such as 'Hit The Road Jack' and juxtapose this with a Lorde mash up of 'Team' and 'Royals'. This shows versatility and skill and really demonstrates how the five musicians all work together onstage, reacting and listening to each other. The highlight is a note perfect rendition of 'We Are Young' by Fun which sounds textured, dramatic and solid despite being made up entirely of acapella vocal notes. It is a type of singing that is lesser known nowadays yet Pentatonix seem intent on bringing it back.

After missing out on tickets last year (Trix/Antwerp) I was able to book tickets this time.

I've been a fan ever since I saw them on The Sing Off and last night I finally got to see them live.

My daughter had been nagging to tag along, and although it was a school night and she's not allowed to go out, I thought Pentatonix was the perfect exception.

What an experience, the songs we've been singing along with in the car for so long, finally we heard them live! And what a show! I just loved loved loved it and my daughter is an ever bigger fan than before last night.

Eventhough they're not that well known over here (yet), the venue was pretty packed and everyone was singing along and screaming. What a night.

I hope they'll come back next year, we'll certainly buy tickets again.

Pentatonix were amazing. It was great how they included the ordinance in their performance by choosing people to go on stage with them, it's a shame I wasn't picked but hey, at least someone else had the chance to. The only problem I had with it was that I knew nothing about a meet and greet and I would of loved to meet them which is a real shame. They were amazing live, sounded just like they do on the CD. I also like how they included other things other than A Capella like Kevin beat boxing with his Chello. My favorate bit was when they all put their microphones down and sang without them. It made me feel closer to them in some wierd way. Overall AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Definatley worth going. ❤️

Disclaimer: I'm probably biased because Pentatonix is my FAVORITE group ever! But, with that being said, the show was fantastic. We did the VIP with Meet & Greet and Sound Check before the show and it was such an experience. The members of Pentatonix are so humble and down to Earth, and they were so sweet to my 7 year old who was very nervous about meeting her idols. THe show itself was beyond amazing. Their voices are like nothing else, and their is no speaker in the world that can substitute hearing Avi's bass voice live. Of course, they were all on point and their energy was impressive. ANd, being the day before Halloween, they were all dressed in costumes, which just added to the fun :)

Absolutely amazing show. Production was great from the sound to the lights. Would recommend everyone to experience this show. For new and old fans alike this is a truly memorable event that cannot be forgotten. For a longtime fan like myself I was very pleased with the setlist and openers for the show. The combination of Rachel Platten and a capella band Citizen queen made the overall vibe of the show very happy and inspiring. To sum it up, do yourself a favor and attend this concert and let it blow your mind with how great it is.

When I got to the concert I thought it would be like the other concerts but what I didn't know was that they were going to sing a few songs from their 4th album and I can't wait for it to come out. This concert was different, in a good way. They changed the songs up a little and they just make everything better and all the nice things they say on stage, especially having the honor of them saying that we were all like Beyonce. They are just so amazing that I have no words to describe how amazing they are.

This was the most amazing concert experience ever! With VIP meet&greet precious to the concert to start the day off... The way we were treated by our VIP-host Nathan Torney was so special, he complements the whole experience with his enthousiasm and spirit... Us The Duo were cool too, perfect pre-act! And PTX blew the roof off eventualy!

Afterwards we can enjoy hundreds of pictures and clips to keep the memory vivid!

Pentatonix’s new album

In the spirit of keeping things fresh, Pentatonix released a new album, “ Holidays Around The World ,” this October.

The 12-track album features re-workings of classic tunes like “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Last Christmas,” as well as original cuts including “Kid On Christmas” and “Star On Top.”

Plus, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee brought along a bit of extra talent this time around too.

Meghan Trainor, Lang Lang, Grace Lokwa, Hiba Tawaji, Lea Salonga and many more contributed to the record.

Pentatonix shook up a few other elements in the recording studio as well.

“There’s a lot of instrumentation. There are a lot of featured vocalists and guests. There’s a lot of world influence,” vocalist Mitch Grassi told Broadway World .

“Pentatonix: Around The World For The Holidays” Disney+ special

In addition to the new album and tour, Pentatonix is also releasing a Disney+ special called “ Pentatonix: Around The World For The Holidays ,” highlighting songs they played on their 2021 “Evergreen Christmas Tour.”

The story within the special is simple — Pentatonix struggles to find inspiration for their annual holiday album. With time getting tight, things inevitably go wrong and the five end up accidentally trapped in a “magic mailroom.”

Using Disney magic, Pentatonix is somehow whisked on a global tour introducing audiences to holiday traditions all the way from Tokyo to Grenada, Ghana, Mexico, and Iceland, where they learn the true meaning of Christmas along the way.

In the concert film, Pentatonix used extended reality technology to virtually visit countries like Japan, where they’d play on rooftops remotely due to COVID concerns.

That combination of culture and music inspired the group’s international flavor on the 2022 album.

“Let’s take these songs and expand on them,” Matt Sallee told Broadway World . “Let’s reach out to the artists around the world and just really dive in that way.”

Pentatonix opening act on tour

At all shows, Pentatonix will be bringing along the a cappella trio Girl Named Tom , made up of siblings Caleb, Joshua and Bekah Liechty.

The group, which has a warm, classical sound, competed on Season 21 of NBC’s “The Voice.”

They are the first trio to win the long-running competition series.

Their new Christmas album, “ One More Christmas ,” is out now.

Today, Pentatonix shared the details for their anxiously awaited 2023 North American Christmas tour,  Pentatonix The Most Wonderful Tour Of The Year  including a stop at T-Mobile Center on Nov. 26 buoyed by a new holiday greatest hits album,  The Greatest Christmas Hits  (RCA). In tandem with the tour, Pentatonix will unveil their 12 th  overall full-length and seventh holiday album , The Greatest Christmas Hits , this fall. The album features 23 of the band's top holiday songs and eight brand new, never-before-heard tracks - including one holiday original. 

Last year, the three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning and Daytime EMMY® Award-nominated vocal quintet completed their biggest and most successful Christmas arena tour thus far. Recently, the group unveiled an upbeat and undeniable new original single entitled “I Rise.” It has just begun to pick up traction at DSPs. The five-piece just embarked on the latest leg of  Pentatonix: The World Tour  in North America. It crisscrosses North America from the East Coast to the West Coast for the next month until its conclusion on Sept. 16.

Fresh off the release of their sixth holiday album, Holidays Around The World, Pentatonix is spreading the holiday cheer live and in person as they kick off their Pentatonix: A Christmas Spectacular! 2022 Tour TODAY. Interview: The Pentatonix Are Going 'Around The World' This Holiday Season

The group revealed what Broadway musical would make the best a cappella album.

Superstar a cappella group Pentatonix is gearing up for another holiday season, filled with a new holiday album, a Disney+ special, and North American tour dates!

Their new album, "Holidays Around The World," is out now and features guest vocals from Lea Salonga , Meghan Trainor, Lang Lang , Grace Lokwa, Hiba Tawaji , La Santa Cecilia, Shreya Ghoshal, HIKAKIN & SEIKIN, and The King Singers. The album features original music and classic holiday covers.

In their Disney+ special, they are taken on a whirlwind tour around the world, discovering holiday traditions and inspiration from Pentatonix fans all around the globe: from Japan to Grenada, Iceland to Ghana and Mexico. The special will be released on December 2.

BroadwayWorld caught up with Pentatonix to discuss their new album, their favorite memories on tour, and what musical they think should get the a cappella treatment.

What can audiences and listeners expect from this new album?

Mitch Grassi : It's a world of difference. I didn't mean to make that, but it came out and I just ran with it. It's quite different than our last Christmas records. There's a lot of instrumentation. There are a lot of featured vocalists and guests.There's a lot of world influence. It's so much fun to make. I think the listeners are gonna be really surprised. And original music!

Scott Hoying : There's a lot of originals on this one, too. I feel like the most of any of our Christmas albums.

How do you all go about curating the track list and figuring out which covers you'd want to include on the album?

Scott: Well, at this point, whatever's available. Honestly, we just jam and talk about it and we bring ideas to the table and whatever just feels like it's working and inspires us. It's a pretty free flowing process. Then we'll do writing sessions if we love the song, we're like, "Put that on there." Like whatever just like came from an organic, authentic place makes the album.

Kirstin Maldonado : And what made the most sense to the artists we were collaborating with too and their culture.

What is everyone's favorite track on the album and why?

Scott: This is so hard because honestly I think this is my favorite album just of anything we've done. So, but I would have to say the one I've listened to the most is "Love Came On Christmas." Always. Then I also just love "Kid on Christmas" so much because it's like that classic Christmas vibe and Meghan [Trainor]'s voice is amazing.

Kevin Olusola : Yeah, for me it'd probably be that one or "Star on Top." We went to Nashville to write with amazing songwriters. It's our first time ever doing a Nashville songwriting camp. When we wrote that song with Chris August, I mean there was just something so special about the way he writes and then we got some of the best Nashville players to play on that record. It turned it into something so magical that I don't think we even could have imagined when we wrote the song. So it's, it's a really special one to us.

Mitch: I love Hark The Herald.

Kirstin: That's also my favorite.

Mitch: That's my favorite arrangement. The guest vocalist is so good. It's beyond.

Scott: It's wild singing with artists, like singers from other countries, that can sing scales and like just stylistic choices that I would never even like think of.

Mitch: That you don't hear in Western culture, too.

Kisten: It's also fun to redo. We've already done "Hark," but to do it with Hiba [Tawaji] on it, it's a completely different song and brings a whole new life to it and she's just so incredible. I love that one. I also love "Star on Top." I also love that we're doing a song with Lea Salonga . Queen, Queen, Queen. She is just amazing and incredible and so it was such an honor to sing with her.

Scott: So that covers every song on the album.

You have your fifth Christmas special coming out. What can we expect from this new one on Disney+?

Matt Sallee : So this special actually inspired the album. This special came first. We did this special in January right at the beginning of this year right after. We were in different territories and we use this XR technology where we would go to each different country because we weren't allowed to fly obviously because of COVID. So we're going to Japan and the XR takes us on top of a rooftop and we're in the congo with people. So it's this beautiful conglomeration of just culture and music and I think that it inspired us a lot. So like, let's take these songs and expand on them and let's do more songs and let's reach out to the artists around the world and just really dive in that way. And we do some acting in it.

Scott: Emmy winning acting.

You're are also doing a holiday tour this year. You guys have been on the road together for such a long time and you must have so much fun. Do you have a specific memory from one of your past tours that sticks out to you as your favorite?

Scott: Oh, so many.

Kevin: Well one of the memories that always sticks out to me was seeing a great-grandmother, a grandmother, a mother and a daughter all come to our VIP and all say that they all agree on listening to our music. That's spans so many generations and to know that the way we sing and our style of a capella reaches that many people from literally completely different generations is truly special. It's just not something you hear about today.

Kirstin: It's also really fun to just travel with each other and celebrate Christmas for a whole month long because everywhere we're going is so festive. When you said that, this memory came into my head, we were in Germany, we went to a Christmas market like, that was like 2012, 2013. Like we've been able to do that and then just go around and there's beautiful holiday lights and it's just really special to have that joy for an entire month and then be able to sing and do what you love is great.

Scott: I would say my favorite memory is we did a ping pong tournament once and I would say I was about fourth seated, just like not expected to win and I ended up winning. Spoiler alert. It was just like, nice to prove myself.

Since you have so many ties to musical theater and Broadway, if you could take any musical and turn it into an a capella album, what would it be? What musical do you think would make the best a capella arrangements?

Mitch: Spring Awakening.

Scott: Dear Evan Hansen.

Kevin: Could we do Wicked?

Scott: Wicked would be hard. It would be cool though.

Kirstin: I feel like Into The Woods would be really hard but really cool.

Mitch: That would be sick. Or Sweeney Todd.

Matt: I was gonna say Sweeney Todd, that would be a good one.

Of all the Christmas songs Pentatonix have released, we really think ‘Mary, Did You Know?’ is one of the best examples of their talent. Between the harmonies, the high notes, and how well Matt and Kevin keep it grounded, it blows us away. Every. Single. Time!

‘Little Drummer Boy’

Everything Pentatonix does deserves a drum roll, especially their rendition of ‘Little Drummer Boy!’ It’s become a staple of their live shows and will definitely go down as one of their most impressive performances.

‘Amazing Grace’

Honestly, we’re not sure what’s more amazing: Grace or how easily Pentatonix can move a crowd with this song. Whichever the answer is, we’ll happily watch every video of this performance we can possibly find!

‘What Christmas Means to Me’

There’s nothing quite like the serotonin we get from Stevie Wonder’s ‘What Christmas Means To Me,’ and that’s amplified when it’s Pentatonix singing it! It’s impossible to be sad while listening to this song, so press play next time you need a boost.

‘Hallelujah’

All we can say is “hallelujah” that Pentatonix’s version of ‘Hallelujah’ exists in this world! Every word, note, and harmony of this performance is absolutely breathtaking, and you can feel how powerful it is within just a few seconds.

‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’

If you told us that Pentatonix were the herald angels from this song, we wouldn’t be surprised. Their voices are just heavenly! They put such a stunning spin on a holiday classic and it wows us every time, without fail.

We’re sure we speak for all Pentaholics when we say PTX is constantly bringing joy to OUR world! Their version of ‘Joy To The World’ is so cheerful and puts us right into the festive spirit. You just can’t go wrong with it.

Pentatonix’s latest holiday album, Holidays Around the World , celebrates how different cultures celebrate Christmas and more, so we love that they included a taste of the project with ‘Feliz Navidad!’ Pretty much everyone knows this song, so it’s a feel-good singalong moment that’s guaranteed to make you smile.

‘Last Christmas’ we gave Pentatonix our heart, and we’ll continue to do so every Christmas as long as they’re still making music. If your holiday playlist isn’t at least 80% their songs, you’re doing it wrong! But hey, you can make it right this Christmas.

‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’

In our humble opinion, Pentatonix Christmas tour season is the most wonderful time of the year. We’re blessed with so much content, so many backstage photos, and incredible performances just like this one! They really know how to keep us on our toes.

Kirstin, Mitch, and Scott founded PTX while going to high school together in Arlington, Texas, and we’re heading back to their roots as a trio with their performance of ‘River!’ Their voices flow together as effortlessly as water and we’re so thankful these three found each other to create one of our favorite groups of all time.

Hearing ‘Star On Top’ was like the star on top of the metaphorical Christmas tree that is this tour’s setlist! This song and performance are nothing short of stellar, and PTX really gets to shine during this number.

‘Winter Wonderland’

In the meadow, we can build a snow-bee, and pretend that he is Matt Sallee… just kidding! Maybe. PTX really create an immersive wonderland with every show they put on for us, so ‘Winter Wonderland’ is a natural choice to make the setlist.

‘I Saw Three Ships’

They may have seen three ships, but we saw five of the most talented vocalists of our generation coming together for one incredible performance. The snaps making the rhythm were such a fun detail and made an amazing part of the show even more memorable!

‘Joyful Joyful’

According to fandom’s leading scientists, it’s physically impossible not to feel cheerful while listening to ‘Joyful, Joyful.’ The vibes are just immaculate and really show what light PTX bring to the world! Keep shining like this, besties.

‘Silent Night’

Pentaholics, we have to band together and make sure no night of A Christmas Spectacular! is a ‘Silent Night.’ We need to be cheering for them like we’ve never cheered in our lives! Need proof? Just watch the ‘Silent Night’ performance and get ready for their vocals to take your breath away.

‘Kid On Christmas’

The last song of any Penatonix concert is bound to make us at least a little sad, but we can’t be that upset when we hear ‘Kid on Christmas.’ It makes US feel like we’re a kid on Christmas and PTX just delivered everything we asked Santa for, including that pony we asked for when we were five.
