Whether or not a foreign citizen needs a visa for the Philippines depends on a variety of factors , the main ones being:

• The country that issued the visitor’s passport
• The traveler’s reason(s) to visit the Philippines
• The intended length of stay

A number of nationalities can enter the Philippines visa-free for short-term stays that do not involve carrying out remunerated activities. Others can obtain a travel permit online , while some may have to request a traditional visa through an embassy or travel agency.

Entry Requirements for Travel to the Philippines

When traveling to the Philippines, it is extremely important to meet all the entry requirements established by the government.

Depending on the traveler’s nationality, they may need one of the following travel permits :

All foreigners must make sure to check the policies and requirements relevant to the visa of their choice before applying for a permit and departing for the Philippines.

A visitor visa to the country can be obtained through an Embassy or Consulate. Citizens of Taiwan need to complete an online form with a valid passport in order to obtain their eTA for the Philippines .

Travel visa and documents required to enter the Philippines

The Philippines has visa exemption agreements with several countries around the world.

Therefore, a great number of nationals are not required to apply for a visa. However, all foreigners who wish to enter the Philippines must meet the following requirements :

• Passport valid for 6 months past the expected stay
• Roundtrip flight itinerary
• Hotel or accommodation reservations
• Cash, debit or credit card

Upon arrival in the Philippines, incoming passengers must go through border control.

All travelers should keep the following in mind regarding Philippine customs regulations :

• Firearms  are forbidden
• Certain items like alcohol and tobacco can be imported duty-free in small amounts only
• Foreign currency of more than US$10,000 and local currency of more than P10,000 must be declared upon entry or exit

Before heading to the country, non-Philippine nationals should be prepared to show the airline at the point of departure to the Philippines a ticket for onward travel . Otherwise, most airlines will make them buy one on the spot or refuse them entry into the aircraft.

Citizens of Taiwan will need to have a printed copy of their electronic visa waiver (eTA) , as well as all the other entry requirements.

For some travelers, the Philippines visitor visa is necessary in order to enter the country. In this case, specific supporting documentation requirements apply.

Travelers from the below nations can remain in the Philippines for up to 14 days without a visa :

Visitors from all of the above countries who plan to stay longer than indicated or travel for reasons that are not covered by the visa-free agreement must obtain a valid visa or travel permit before entering the Philippines.

Those who are not on the aforementioned lists must also hold a visa in order to cross the border.

Regardless of their nationality, all foreign visitors must make sure to abide by the visa requirements and conditions not only when applying but also during the entirety of their stay in the Philippines.

At this time, only citizens of Taiwan are eligible to obtain an online visa waiver for the Philippines. Visa requirements for the Philippines electronic authorizations include:

• A current email address to receive important notifications about the eTA application

Philippine Standard Time

Visa information.

A Philippine Visa is an endorsement made on a travel document by a consular officer at a Philippine Embassy or Consulate abroad denoting that the visa application has been properly examined and that the bearer is permitted to proceed to the Philippines and request permission from the Philippine Immigration authorities at the ports of entries to enter the country.

The visa thus issued is not a guarantee that the holder will be automatically admitted into the country, because the admission of foreign nationals into the Philippines is a function of the immigration authorities at the port of entry.

Definition of a Foreign Tourist (Temporary Visitor)

A “foreign tourist” is defined as a person without distinction as to race, gender, language or religion, who is proceeding o the Philippines for a legitimate, nonimmigrant purpose such as sightseeing, sports, health, family reasons, training or study (excluding enrollment in schools for the purpose of obtaining a title or degree), religious pilgrimage, business, cultural and scientific purposes.

Standard Procedure/Minimum Requirements for applying a Temporary Visitor’s Visa

Application for a temporary visitor’s visa must be made in person. In the case of a minor under eighteen (18) years of age, the application may be made for him by a person who, in the opinion of the consular officer, is responsible for his/her welfare. The minor, not an infant in arms, shall be required to appear at the Consulate for interview, together with the person making the application for him/her.

Applicants for temporary visitor’s visa should normally apply at the Philippine Embassy or Consulate that has jurisdiction over their place of residence. While some visa applicants may apply at any Philippine Embassy or Consulate abroad, others are only allowed to apply his/her visa at the Philippine Embassy or Consulate in his country of origin or legal residence.

The following are the minimum requirements for applying a temporary visitor’s visa:

• Passport/Travel Document Valid for at least six (6) months beyond the intended period of stay in the Philippines;
• Duly Accomplished Visa application forms;
• Passport Photos (2 pieces);
• Proof of bona fide status as tourist or businessman;
• Confirmed tickets for return or onward journey to the next port of destination; and
• Payment of Visa Fees

Other Visa/Entry requirements for Foreign Nationals:

• Affidavit of consent by either parent or legally appointed guardian of the child, naming therein the person who will be accompanying the child to the Philippines and with whom the child will stay while in the country. The said Affidavit must be duly notarized by a local notary public or the consular officer at the Philippine Embassy or Consulate in the applicant’s country or residence;
• Clear photocopy of the data page of the child’s passport;
• Clear photocopy of the data page of the passport of the accompanying adult or guardian; and
• Payment of immigration fees (currently, P3,120 per child).
• Nationality/Citizenship;
• Passport details of the crew;
• Vessel to be used for entry: type, name, registration, call sign, and other particulars;
• Estimated date of entry into the Philippine territory;
• Port/Area of entry (Philippine waters);
• Estimated period of stay in the Philippines;
• Character reference/shipping agent in the Philippines (if any); and
• Purpose of visit
• Curriculum vitae of newsmen/journalists;
• Shortlist of work credits;
• Copy of one (1) sample article written by the applicant;
• Background of media organization, including target market/audience, circulation, format; and
• List of members of the reportorial team, nationality and passport details;
• Planned itinerary and activities, with storyline for any films to be made;
• List of equipment to be brought by each team member, with certification from the media organization that said equipment will be re-exported at the end of the trip to the Philippines;
• Flight details (arrival and departure); and
• For each team member, one (1) photograph, sixe 1″x1″, to be submitted to the International Press Center (IPC) for the issuance of accreditation card.
• Letter request;
• Certificate of Acceptance from the school accredited by the Bureau of Immigration to accept foreign students;
• Photocopy of passport reflecting the applicant’s authorized period of stay;
• Affidavit of Support and Proof of Financial Capacity; and
• Birth Certificate.

Extension of Authorized Period of stay in the Philippines

In case of a temporary visitor’s visa holder whose stay in the Philippines will exceed the authorized period of stay, he/she will have to report to the Bureau of Immigration, secure an extension of stay and pay the corresponding immigration fees. Information on fees for extension of stay and other Immigration fees are available at the Bureau of Immigration website ( www.immigration.gov.ph ).

Guidelines on the entry of Temporary Visitors to the Philippines

The Philippines grants visa-free entry to passport holders of certain countries while requiring a visa to others. Check if your passport will require a visa for entry to the Philippines by selecting the country that issued your passport:

But there’s good news! The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is slowly opening its doors to Filipino travelers. You can now get a VOA or eVisa given that you have valid visas from specific nations (we listed them below).

Saudi Arabia Visa on Arrival Requirements

Validity: short stay for up to 90 days

• Valid Passport – at least 6 months with 2 blank pages
• Holder of valid Schengen, US, or UK visa (These visas must be USED).
• Has entered the Schengen Area, US, or UK already – there must be an entry stamp.

Make sure that your Schengen, UK or US visa is used and valid before you enter Saudi Arabia to be able to obtain a VOA.

Pilgrim Visas

Umrah visa requirements.

Since Mecca is the holiest city in Saudi Arabia for Muslims, you can visit here anytime you want for as long as you will apply for an Umrah Visa. This visa is only applicable to our Muslim friends.

1. Umrah Visa Application Form and a recent standard colored passport size photograph ;

2. Valid Passport – valid for at least 6 months;

3. Medical Certificate – for children between 3 months and 12 years old, parents should consult their primary care doctors;

4. Confirmed Round Trip Ticket to and from Saudi Arabia;

5. Marriage Certificate or Children’s Birth Certificate – for a couple or family whose last names are different;

6. Certificate of Conversion to Islam is also required.

There is no Visa Fee for Umrah Visa. You can apply through the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Manila.

Hajj Visa Requirements

Unlike Umrah Visa wherein you can visit anytime, in the Hajj visa, there’s a specific date on when you can apply for one. Hajj is an annual pilgrimage to Mecca that follows the dates on the Islamic calendar. If you’re a Muslim, you’d probably know when this happens so you’ll get an idea of when you should apply.

1. Passport – valid for at least 6 months with at least 2 blank pages

2. 2 Passport-sized photos with white background

3. Visa Application Form – this must be signed and stamped by NCMF

4. Confirmed Round Trip Ticket 

5. International Certificate of Vaccination – issued by Bureau of Quarantine

6. Medical Certificate – for children 3 months to 12 old, parents should consult their primary care doctors

• Females must be accompanied by a male escort or relative. Proof of relationship must be submitted.
• Females over 45 may travel without a Mahram but with an organized group, however, a notarized no-objection letter from husband, son, or brother must be submitted.
• Applicants under legal age can’t be granted a visa if not accompanied by parents.

Saudi Arabia Transit Visa Requirements

1. Visa application form ;

2. Valid passport – a minimum of  6 months;

3. Two photos – with white background, 4×6 cm;

4. Confirmed Airline Ticket (at most 48 hours);

5. Valid Visa for the next destination ;

6. A confirmed reserved ticket    in and out of Saudi Arabia for at most 48 hours.

There is no visa fee for Transit Visas.

Philippine Passport holders are not yet eligible for Saudi Arabia eVisa. But we’re hoping that it will happen soon since the country is slowly opening its doors for Filipinos. For now, here are the countries that are eligible for Saudi Arabia eVisa.

1. Valid Passport ;

2. Soft Copy of Picture – must be 200×200 pixels and less than 18kb ;

3. Medical Insurance (you can buy at the website) ;

4. Credit or Debit Card for the Visa Fee.

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Apply for Saudi Arabia Tourist Visa (eVisa)

Step 1: Go to this website .

Step 2: Choose an individual and then what type of visa you want to apply for.

Step 3:  Register through this link and check your e-mail for verification. Log-in with your details.

Step 4:  Click “Add a New Application.”

Step 5:  Type in your personal details and upload your photo. Choose medical insurance and review your application.

Step 6:  Pay the necessary fees.

Step 7:  Wait for your online visa that will be sent to your e-mail. Print this and show this to the immigration officer together with your passport and medical insurance .

Who is eligible for a family visit visa?

The family visit visa can be applied for only the following people in Saudi Arabia. While relation 1-4 listed below is approved for everyone, relation 5-9 would be approved only if you have a good Iqama profession.

• Wife/Husband.
• Parents-in-Law.
• Grand Parents.
• Brother and his family (wife and children).
• Sister and her family (husband and children).
• Sister-in-Law (sister of the spouse). 
• Brother-in-Law (brother of the spouse). 

Requirements for the visa

You need the following documents to apply for the family visit visa;

• Applicant’s passport.
• Saudi visa of the Iqama holder person applying for the visa.
• 3 months of Iqama validity.
• No need to be physically present in KSA to apply.
• Activate Nafath app.

Now expatriates with any Iqama profession including labor and house drivers can also apply for a family visit visa.

• Name as per passport in ENGLISH ONLY .
• Fill out the rest of the application in Arabic .
• Enter Birth Date .

Recently, many family visit visa applications have been rejected with the message “ نأمل تعبئة طلب جديد مع تدوين المهنة بشكل دقيق في خانة ( المهنة)، أطيب تحياتنا .” which means that the profession selected is inaccurate.

However, there is no profession of housewife, child, or retired in the list of professions provided above. We believe that this is a short glitch and soon the Saudi government will start to accept “Unemployed” profession.

Passport Details

Type of Visa

Now scroll down a little further and select the type of family visit visa you want to apply for in Saudi Arabia;

• The single-entry visit visa is issued for a period of 30 days only with 8 possible extensions of 30 days each i.e. 270 days.
• The multiple-entry visit visa is issued for a period of 90 days only which cannot be extended anymore.

If you want to apply for a family visit visa for more than one family member, click on the “ Add ” button again to enter the details of the second applicant who wants to come to KSA. Otherwise,

Once done, the MOFA system will generate an application number. 

• Save the application number for future use.
• Print the application for further processing.

Step 03: Submit the application

In the next step, you need to submit the application to your employer to sign and stamp it.

• Private Employees: After this, submit the application to the chamber of commerce of the same city mentioned in the address above.
• Government Employees:  The government employees will submit the application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• Domestic Workers:  The employer of the domestic workers will approve the visa through his Absher account. They don’t have to submit it anywhere.

Step 04: Check Visit Visa Application Status

Now keep on checking the family visit visa status from the MOFA website. As soon as the family visit visa is approved, send it to the country from where your family wants to enter KSA. https://visa.mofa.gov.sa/

In some cases, the MOFA requests some additional documents from the Iqama holder before approving the visa. If this is the case, you need to visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with the required documents.

Step 05: Submit the application to the Saudi Embassy

Your family will contact an agent to submit the application to the Saudi Embassy or Saudi Consulate. In Pakistan, your family will have to book an appointment with Etimad.

At this point, you need to pay the fee for the family visit visa to your agent. Here is an approximate breakup of the fee;

• Visa Fee: SR 300.
• Insurance: SR 100.
• Other Charges: SR 500.
• Total Fee: SR 800 approx.

Make sure the application is submitted to the Saudi Embassy within the family visit visa validity .

Step 06: Check Saudi Visa Status

After submitting your passport to the embassy, you can check the Saudi Visa status with the passport number online.

If the visa is stamped, you need to book a return ticket for the family visit visa holder. Saudi authorities have the right to deport a visit visa holder if he does not have a return ticket.

Family Visit Visa through Istiqdam

In some cases, you might have to apply for a family visit visa through Istiqdam. Here is how you need to proceed;

• Get the appointment from Istiqdam.
• Download the family visit visa application form, fill it in Arabic, and get it attested by the Chamber of Commerce.
• Introduction letter issued by the employer and stamped by the chamber of commerce.
• Copy of marriage certificate if you are applying for in-laws.
• Copy of Iqama and Passport.

Visit the Istiqdam office

• Submit all the documents to the Istiqdam office and get Green and White paper from them.
