Recent tour reviews

Rancid show was great.

This band is polished and professional and delivers a super high energy show.

I was not impressed with the REBEL venue.

They scheduled a ridiculously early start time and updates on bands/stage times were not pushed out over social media. Also not impressed with paying $20 for parking out in the boonies.

I will not be attending any future shows at REBEL.

We went to see English Beat and left after their set. Iron Reagan totally sucked. Dave's set was great but way too short. Next time just bring the English Beat to a better venue - The Palace in Greensburg would be great to have two Ska bands (English Beat and The Selecter or similar band). At least we got out early and had a nice (non-food truck) dinner.

Amazing concert. My husband has seen Rancid more times than me and every show is even better than the previous. Regency Ballroom is a fantastic, more intimate venue, AND I loved that the concert was raising money for good. Thank you Rancid for an amazing date night. My husband and I had a blast! :)

Rancid announce EU/UK 2023 tour

Punk rock legends Rancid are jumping across the pond next year for a EU/UK tour

Rancid press shot

Rancid have announced that they will be embarking on a EU/UK tour in 2023.

The trek will kick off on June 2 in Rimini, Italy at Slam Dunk, followed by shows in Slovenia, Austria, Poland, Scandinavia, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the UK and more, before coming to a close on June 25 in the Czech Republic.

Playing in support of the East Bay punk rockers on their UK stops will be The Bronx and labelmates, Grade 2.

Tickets will go on sale Friday Dec 16 at 10:00 AM local time via the band's website.

Rancid UK tour dates:

Jun 20: London O2 Academy Brixton Jun 21: Manchester O2 Victoria Warehouse

Earlier this year, Lars Frederiksen discussed his thirt- year career with Metal Hammer , and spoke about everything from inspiring wrestling hero Ruby Riott to getting praise from Rob Halford and Gene Simmons, as well as the secrets to his success.

Speaking of the moment he was admired by the two aforementioned rock heroes, Frederiksen explained: “I knew that punk rock was the coolest music in the world, so the fact that it was getting exposure, for me, was rad. I remember going to see  Kiss  on their 1996 reunion tour, and Gene Simmons came up to me, as did Rob Halford, picked out  Avenues & Alleyways  and said it was so cool we had written an anti-racist song.

"The fact that these guys from a completely different world to us knew who we were, not only that but they recited actual lyrics by us… that was the most ‘Kaboom!’ moment. We grew up listening to Kiss and Judas Priest!”

Elsewhere in the interview, the musician spoke of the importance of knowing your history, which became particularly relevant to his life when he started embellishing his clothing with swastikas, a symbol of the Nazi party, which also at times has been adopted by punks.

“One of the first times I understood the gravity of what my mom went through [Lars’s mother was the only member of her family to escape the Nazi occupation of Denmark during the Second World War and fled to the US], was when I had an American flag that I used to use as a bum flap, and I put swastikas on the stars" he said.

"This was, like, 1985. I came home and she asked me what I had done to the stars and I said, ‘America… blah, blah blah’, all the punk shit. She sat me down and explained exactly what that symbol meant to her.

"I wasn’t educated on what my mom had been through; I suddenly understood the gravity. I was using it to be provocative, but over the years, understanding what it means, knowing what that meant to her, as well as my own personal experiences with being looked at weird because of how I dressed, made it so clear to me how stupid the idea of hating someone because of their race or sexuality or… whatever it is.”

UK DATES 2023

June 20, 2023 – London, UK – O2 Academy Brixton June 21, 2023 – Manchester, UK – O2 Victoria Warehouse

Emerging from the blue-collar swamps of Berkeley, California, Rancid has now been a living, breathing punk rock band for over a quarter century. Back in 1991, after the demise of their much beloved and still influential first band, Operation Ivy, founding members Tim Armstrong (vocals, guitar) and Matt Freeman (bass, vocals) decided to do the impossible — start an even better band. Thus, Rancid. Signing with Epitaph Records, the band released their first album, “Rancid,” in 1993. Shortly thereafter, Lars Frederiksen (vocals, guitar) joined the band. The result, in 1994, was “Let’s Go.”

In 1995, Rancid released the classic platinum-selling “…And Out Come The Wolves.” They followed with the even more ambitious “Life Won’t Wait” in 1998, and in 2000, Rancid released another album entitled “Rancid,” just to see if anyone was paying attention. After “Indestructible” in 2003, Branden Steineckert (drums) joined to solidify Rancid’s current line-up. They subsequently released the albums “Let The Dominos Fall” (2009), “Honor Is All We Know” (2014), and “Trouble Maker” (2017).

Through it all, Rancid has remained fiercely independent, never losing their loyalty to community or each other. Their music confronts political and social issues, while balancing personal tales of love, loss, and heartbreak with attitude. Rancid gives their listeners a community where everyone can belong. By carrying on the traditions and spirit of the original punk rock bands that came before, Rancid has become a legend an inspiration to punk bands that have come after. They are the living embodiment of East Bay punk. And if you don’t know all this by now — you’re not playing their music loud enough! See ya in the pit. Share this:

More than just noise for noise’s sake … Tim Armstrong of Rancid performing at Wembley Arena.

Rancid review – pure punk rock creates arena-scale moshpit

Wembley Arena, London Unexpectedly bumped up to a much larger venue, the US rebels put on a joyous show without any compromises to their DIY aesthetic or swaggering anthems

B ack in April, Rancid announced they were moving their London show from the closed Brixton Academy to the twice-as-big Wembley Arena out of necessity , and their social media were bombarded with punk-rocker tantrums. “£43 to watch Rancid sound like they’re in a cave?” one Facebook comment complained. “No thanks!”

Admittedly, as the Berkeley-based rebels play in this 10,000-capacity cavern – with curtains at the back to hide the unsold seats – their anthems don’t boot you in the chest the way they would in some grimy yet intimate basement. But Rancid have always been about more than simply making noise for noise’s sake. Many of their songs are mid-paced tunes that you can dance and swagger to, while the likes of Time Bomb and Tenderloin have legitimate pop prowess: even people who have never heard them before will have those choruses memorised by the end.

As a result, what tonight lacks in sonic muscle is more than compensated for by arena-wide enthusiasm. Second song Roots Radicals lurches Wembley back to the 1995 genre-classic album And Out Came the Wolves, the chords and snarling vocals being met by a front half of the venue that refuses to stay still. “Give ’em the boot! The roots! The radicals!” guitarist/vocalist Lars Frederiksen shouts, but is impressively drowned out by thousands of punk rock faithfuls singing the same hook.

after newsletter promotion

Rancid haven’t compromised their DIY aesthetic for the larger crowd, either. Although Frederiksen lets out an amazed “Yo, fellas! We just played Wembley!” before bursting into finale Ruby Soho, no pyro or pageantry marks the occasion. Instead, there’s a simple black backdrop and some amps, while friends and fans (including UK Subs singer Charlie Harper) stand on-stage, very much in plain view. It truly and simply feels like a punk rock show inflated – especially when hardcore oldie Rejected incites a monumental mosh pit down the front.

If you’re one of those people who saw Rancid were getting relocated to Wembley and flogged your ticket, you missed an evening of victory. The band entered their first UK arena headliner as underdogs not supposed to be there, yet triumphed all the same. And is there anything more punk than that?

Louder Than War

Rancid announce new album and major tour and big UK dates

rancid tour uk

Carrying the same raw energy since their 1991 inception, Rancid has been deemed by Stereogum as “ incapable of making a bad album. ” Today, the Berkeley, California, punk stalwarts continue that streak with the announcement of their highly anticipated 10 th studio album. ‘ Tomorrow Never Comes ’ is due for a June 2 nd release via Epitaph Records , produced by longtime collaborator, Bad Religion guitarist and Epitaph founder, Brett Gurewitz.

Their first new music since 2017’s Trouble Maker , the band also shares the exhilarating title track and lead single today. Highlighting their collective ear for melodic rock hooks and catchy, sing-a-long choruses, the song is complete with the familiar wailing guitars and punishing punk rock rhythms that have solidified Rancid as the legends they are.

Listen to ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ here , or watch the video here .

At a whopping 850 Million catalog streams to date, fans and critics alike seem to agree that Rancid’s brand of high impact, no frills punk still flows abundantly in their blood, while easily translating to a modern audience. Now embarking on their tenth full-length effort, this is evident throughout ‘ Tomorrow Never Comes ’. With its sixteen blistering tracks barely making the two-and-a-half-minute mark, the album boasts the same gritty, straight forward punk-with-a-purpose that the world just can’t get enough of.

On their last studio album, Trouble Maker (2017), Pitchfork explored the band’s themes of “ contemporary political turmoil–blue-collar identity crises, tense demonstrations, the ever-present shadow of the Man– through the prism of their rebellious past, a little more wizened but just as rambunctious as ever .”

Punk News also raved, “ Rancid makes a radical left turn from the norm, pushing far past the boundaries, not just of punk, but of the traditional rules of music itself, creating the most original sound to come out of any musical artist since Beethoven .”

Throughout the last three decades, Rancid has remained fiercely independent, never losing their loyalty to their community or each other. Their music confronts political and social issues, while balancing personal tales of love, loss, and heartbreak with attitude. By carrying on the traditions and spirit of the original punk rock bands that came before, Rancid has become a legend and inspiration to punk bands that have come after.

See Rancid play in the UK at their recently upgraded OVO Arena Wembley show on June 20 th , and Manchester O2 Victoria Warehouse on June 21 st .

Rancid (US / UK)

Rancid has confirmed the support for the remainder of their North American and upcoming UK tour dates. The bands involved span two distinct generations and that's something of a testament to Rancid's appeal. On one hand we'll see the group playing with D.O.A. , the Adolescents , T.S.O.L. , Dr. Know , Peter and the Test Tube Babies , Anti-Nowhere League , GBH and U.K. Subs . In the same tour the band will play shows their 90s contemporaries like Less Than Jake , H2O and the Aquabats .

Rancid's long awaited follow up to 2003's Indestructible is still in the works. The band has announced that it will get some attention before the UK leg of the tour in November, but what that means is anyone's guess. The leading rumor right now is that the album will be titled One Way To Die , but since that information comes from both contentious Wikipedia edits and Punknews submissions from fans claiming "I heard Tim say it!" don't go getting it tattooed on the back of your head just yet. Whatever it's called, the album is being produced by Brett Gurewitz and will be their first to feature new drummer Branden Steineckert.

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls 2024 UK tour dates are:

JUNE 28 – Glastonbury, Avalon Stage JULY 13 – Cheltenham, 2000 Trees Festival 14 – Manchester, Academy 2 15 – Leeds. Brudenell Social Club 16 – Glasgow, Garage 18 – Southampton, 1865 19 – Birmingham, Academy 2 20 – Nottingham, Rescue Rooms 22 – Cardiff, Tramshed 23 – Oxford, 02 Academy 2 24 – Norwich, Epic Studios 26 – Suffolk, Latitude Festival

Speaking about the upcoming dates in a press release, Turner said: “We’re getting closer to the day when ‘Undefeated’ is out in the world. We’ve announced and sold out 14 shows in the UK – all on the same day – so let’s add a few more! I’m bringing the tour, the new album, the Sleeping Souls, and my excellent friends The Meffs, to a string of dates in rooms I know well and love around the UK this July, in between our festival shows.”

Recommended

The announcement of his UK tour comes after he announced his attempt to break the record for the most shows played in 24 hours in honour of the Music Venue Trust .

In celebration of his upcoming 3,000th show and the release of his 10th album ‘Undefeated’ on May 3, Turner will attempt to play 15 shows of minimum 20-minute sets on May 4. Sponsored by taxi app FREENOW, Turner will travel circa 500 miles to play shows from Liverpool to Southampton.

Turner says of his challenge: “With nearly 3000 shows under my belt, I’ve never been one to do things by halves or shirk a challenge – I once played all 50 American states in 50 days, for goodness sake. For the release of my tenth studio album, ‘Undefeated’, I will be making an attempt at a world record: the most number of shows in different cities in 24 hours.

“It’s not just self-promotion either,” he added. “We’re working with 13 independent record shops and 15 independent grassroots music venues for the shows, highlighting two bits of the infrastructure of the underground that I care about most. It’s going to be tough, but hopefully fun too. Come down for a show!”

Find tickets  here  and see below for the tight schedule for Turner’s challenge:

Meanwhile, Turner  announced his new record in January this year , sharing it was about “survival and defiance, but also one with a sense of fun and self-deprecation.”

“19 years into my solo career, I’m still standing up and putting out some of my best work. It feels good.”

He also spoke to  NME  about the importance of going to gigs  after Covid-19, saying: “We’re trying to remind people that going to independent gigs is fun, and teaching the kids who came of age in 2020 or 2021 that this is a cool thing to do. My role in this is twofold – to shout about it whenever I can and be positive and say it’s a really fucking cool thing to go to indie gigs.

“Don’t fucking go to an arena gig where you get charged nine quid for a beer!”

Previously, the  MVT awarded Turner an Outstanding Achievement Award  for hosting 27 shows which were instrumental in directly enabling grassroots music venues to survive the  coronavirus  crisis, having raised nearly £300,000.
