Shelby Museum Las Vegas: Vintage Car Lover’s Dream

While Vegas is the city of gambling, partying, and luxurious food, there are unique attractions littered around Sin City for those with other interests. One of these thrilling, uber-exciting spots is the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum—a must-see for vintage car lovers visiting Las Vegas.

The museum showcases the thrilling history of Shelby Mustangs and other iconic muscle cars, like Cobras. It also tells the life story of Carroll Shelby, the innovative car designer and the man behind it all. If you’re even a little bit curious about Shelby cars, put this museum on your bucket list.

Want to learn more about the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum in Las Vegas? Keep reading to know what to expect when you visit this car enthusiast’s paradise off the Strip.

What is the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum?

Shelby Heritage Center and Museum

It’s important not to confuse the Shelby Heritage Center with the Colorado-based Shelby American Collection—an exhibit that showcases old Shelby cars donated by their previous owners. The Shelby Heritage Center is along Ensworth St. in Vegas, just 10 minutes away from the Strip.

The Heritage Center and Museum has been open since 2013. What’s cool is that it’s three places in one. It’s a manufacturing facility for Shelby cars, a heritage center that showcases vintage cars, and a merchandise shop for Shelby fans.

First, let’s talk about the Heritage Center and Museum. The goal of the center is to celebrate and honor Shelby American, the company that manufactured Mustangs and Cobras. The museum’s pride and joy is the line-up of 30 pristine vintage Shelby cars that visitors can admire up close.

But it’s not just about the cars. The museum also aims to paint a picture of the life of Carroll Shelby, the famous automotive innovator that fashioned these cars back in the 1960s, before the manufacturing of the Mustang was handed over to Ford.

What’s cool about this part of the museum is that there’s a lot of audience interaction involved. Tour guests are sometimes asked to read out lines from a script when Shelby’s story is told, making the experience feel immersive and more realistic.

Aside from that, guests are free to lurk in the factory or manufacturing area, where modern Shelby cars are made. You’ll see the teams build high-performing cars from a safe distance. This area makes for an excellent bonding experience between dads and young boys who love cars.

Guests can do self-guided tours upon entering the Heritage Center. But the retelling of the life of Carroll Shelby and the viewing of the manufacturing facility are included only in the paid tours.

Of course, if you’re lucky, you can come into the museum while a tour is already ongoing. You can probably overhear the stories the enthusiastic tour guides share about Shelby.

What Cars Are in the Shelby Museum?

Cars in the Shelby Museum

Shelby American came out with plenty of cars during their time. Which cars will guests see in the Heritage Center and Museum?

As mentioned earlier, there are around 30 stunning, breathtaking Shelby cars on display at the museum. The team changes the line-up now and then to showcase more and more vintage cars.

But with each visit, you can expect some of the iconic models to be there, including the Shelby GT350 and GT500 Mustangs. You will also see classic Cobras and even modern Shelby Super Snakes. Visitors can probably circle through the entire line-up and admire each car in about an hour.

If you book a tour and get access to the behind-the-scenes manufacturing area, you’ll see high-performance cars being made. Many of the company’s current cars can be seen in this area. These include Shelby models like the Terlingua, the Baja Raptor, the GTE, and many more.

After Seeing the Vintage Cars, Check Out Their Merch!

the Carroll Shelby Store

It may sound like the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum already has so much to offer, but that’s not all you can find there. The building is also home to the Carroll Shelby Store—a gift shop full of Shelby-themed merchandise that fans and collectors can purchase on their way out of the building.

In the Carroll Shelby Store, fans will be bright-eyed with wonder. All around the shop are different kinds of Shelby merchandise, including miniature model cars, collectible figurines of vintage Shelby car models, real car parts, Shelby-themed clothes, posters, décor, and many more.

When you drop by the Carroll Shelby Store, make sure to get everything you think you will want. It’s the only authorized Shelby merchandise shop in existence, found only in the Las Vegas location.

Plus, many of these products are limited edition. It would be smart to get your hands on them while you can. They would make terrific gifts for car lovers and collectors back home.

The best thing about the Carroll Shelby Store is that the prices of the merchandise aren’t too exorbitant. They’re definitely more affordable than if you would buy collectibles from BMW or Mercedez Benz merch shops.

When is the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum Open?

The Heritage Center is open every day from Monday to Sunday. On weekdays, their business hours are from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. On Saturdays, they open a little earlier at 8:00 AM and close at the usual 5:00 PM. On Sundays, they’re open from 10:00 to 4:00 PM.

Tours, on the other hand, are only available from Monday to Saturday. They run hourly from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, except at 1:00 PM.

So, if you’re planning on going to the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum, it might be smart to go on weekdays or Saturdays. They’re open for longer and there may be fewer crowds, especially from Monday to Friday.

Sunday has the shortest hours, and the size of the crowd is quite unpredictable. Plus, tours are not available on that day, which for big Shelby fans is the best part of the attraction.

How Much Does It Cost to Enter the Shelby Heritage Center?

Shelby Heritage Center

Perhaps the best thing about the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum is that there is no entrance fee. Everyone can come inside for free, all day, every day. With free admission, you can go on self-guided tours for as long as you want inside the facility.

However, if you want the full experience of the Heritage Center, you should book a VIP tour, which includes access to the manufacturing facility. This is the better option if you and your friends or family want a behind-the-scenes look at how Shelby cars are made.

If you book a VIP tour, you’ll also get a gift bag full of authorized merchandise from the Carroll Shelby Store. That alone makes the price of a VIP tour worth it.

For VIP tours, children from age 6 and below can still come in for free. Tickets for children between ages 7 and 11 are worth $49. And anyone 12 years old and above needs to pay $59 for the VIP tour.

Shelby Museum Is a Must-Visit for Car Lovers

The Shelby Heritage Center was created for vintage car lovers, especially fans of the timeless, legendary Shelby Mustang. But even those who don’t know a thing about cars will be mesmerized by the beautiful muscle cars lined up in the heritage center.

This activity sounds like a great activity for groups of male friends, but it’s also a terrific place for family bonding. Make sure to carve out some time from your wild weekend in Las Vegas to pause and admire these iconic American cars at the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum.

So, what are you waiting for? Learn more about and the life of the great Carroll Shelby when you visit the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum today! Walk in for free or book VIP tour tickets in advance to experience this captivating world of vintage cars and automotive history.

Las Vegas, NV – A new  20-minute video  from the Shelby Heritage Center offers a wonderful tour of rare Shelbys and special insight into Carroll Shelby’s life, both on and off the track.

The Drive’s Alan Taylor interviews Center president Gary Patterson as they walk through the facility that displays more than 30 Shelby vehicles and an amazing amount of historical memorabilia.

Among the topics Taylor and Patterson touch on is the pivotal role Peter Brock played in the development of cars for Shelby American. In fact, one of the most striking cars at the Center is a Brock-designed 50th anniversary Daytona coupe, finished in polished aluminum. (FYI, Brock is the honored guest for Vintage Sports Car Drivers Association’s Sept. 17-19  Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival. )

Who Was Carroll Shelby?

shelby heritage center tour

Carroll Shelby is known to the world of racing as one of the most respected drivers in modern history. After serving in World War II, Carroll Shelby took up a little hobby of racing cars, which quickly turned into an adrenaline-fueled career at a relatively young age. In the 1950s, he raced throughout the United States, England, and Mexico. In 1957, he earned the distinction of being named Sports Illustrated Driver of the Year.

It wasn’t long after this that Carroll Shelby was forced into retirement from racing due to complications of a heart defect present at birth. Unable to continue racing, he wasn’t yet ready to give up the world he loved and decided to focus on building race cars.

Shelby contacted a British automobile manufacturer by the name of AC Cars to assist him by providing him with a chassis to accommodate a Ford V8 engine. A partnership was formed, and Carroll Shelby became known as the mastermind behind the AC Cobra. Eventually, Shelby America was formed and produced popular models, such as the Carroll Shelby Signature Edition Mustang, the Shelby GT, and the Shelby SuperSnake.

Museum Tour

shelby heritage center tour

The Shelby Museum tour is more than just your typical stroll through a collection of automobile memorabilia. What you experience is a true piece of United States history as you travel the life and legacy of Carroll Shelby and his automotive designs that, to this day, ignite a special kind of passion in car collectors and automotive enthusiasts.

The Carroll Shelby Museum offers both guided and self-guided tours. The friendly and knowledgeable staff at the Shelby Museum welcome visitors to come, explore, and enjoy self-guided tours at any time during their regular operating hours. This is one of those Las Vegas attractions that’s great for all ages and one that almost everyone will enjoy.

Guided tours offer a richer, more educational experience with a behind-the-scenes look at the production and manufacturing facility and a friendly tour guide to answer questions. As a bonus, your tour guide will provide you with a bag filled with some nice Shelby swag.

Plan on spending some time during your visit to the museum. There are more than 15,000 square feet to explore at the Carroll Shelby Heritage Center. You’ll want to take your time as each display takes you through a visual history of one of America’s greatest and most unique automotive treasures. And yes, there are lots of Shelby muscle cars on display, too.

The tour showcases and highlights as many as 40 cars on display at the Carroll Shelby Heritage Center. This is the one place where you can get an up-close and personal look at some of Shelby’s most famous models and original prototypes, from Supersnakes to the iconic Shelby Cobra. Every Shelby enthusiast knows these muscle cars are true works of art, and posing next to one is a photo op not to be missed.

shelby heritage center tour

While the muscle cars are the real star of the show, you’ll want to make a stop at the Carroll Shelby Store, where you’ll find all types of great Shelby merchandise, from replicas of the Shelby Mustang to collectibles, apparel, and deals on all types of Shelby muscle car memorabilia. The gift shop is open during the Shelby Heritage Center’s regular operating hours.

The Carroll Shelby Museum is located not far from all the action on the Strip. You can find the Shelby Heritage Center and Museum at 6405 Ensworth St, Las Vegas. The museum, gift shop, and production facility is about a 10-minute drive from many of the hotels on the Strip.

Is Shelby American owned by Ford?

Shelby American has a long-standing relationship with Ford, and Ford engines are in many of Shelby’s hottest models, but Shelby’s parent company is Carrol Shelby International, Inc., with their headquarters in Enterprise, Nevada.

Can I buy a Shelby Cobra?

You can buy a Cobra, but the price will cost you a pretty penny. An original, large-black Cobra can be purchased in the ballpark of $3M-$6M. Rumor has it that there are fewer than 900 original Cobras remaining today.

Only 5 Cobras will be built in 2024 and will cost $750,000.

How much is a new Shelby?

The 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has a base price starting at $80,795. Of course, if you’re going to spend that on a Shelby model, you might as well go all out with the Carbon Fiber Track Pack, which features aerodynamic add-ons, 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels, and Michelin Pilot Port Cup 2 tires, for an extra $18,500.

Shelby American is a little piece of this country’s history, and you can experience a bit of it for yourself at the Shelby Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada. Join the Museum any day of the week for a tour and video history of an American classic. For more info about the Shelby Museum, visit the website to learn updated details about tour times, the current model collection, products, and plan your next visit.

Shelby American Full Factory Tour

Friday 4th November 2016. A trip back to the Shelby Heritage Center to be had where a full, unprecedented all access tour was coming our way. As this is a large post with lots of pictures, it’s well worth scrolling through to the end as these rare behind the scenes pics have not been in the public eye – until now!!!!

sema4-shelhertigae2

We arrived early before the doors opened at nine sharp. As a group we were hanging around by the side roller door of the factory waiting for our guide, we could already see some rather nice cars parked inside. Adam had arranged to meet with  Shelby American Inc’s  Director of Production and R&D, he is also their Chief Test Driver; Vince LaViolette . Vince was going to be our very own personal guide.

sema4-shelhertigae3

A few more other guests joined had by now joined our little group, thinking this was a way in. However, once the introductions had been completed with Vince we were shown in, some random other people followed us. Vince asked if they were with us and we of course said no. With that Vince advised them that we were on a private tour and that they should wait outside. The first thing to see was lines of  post ramps, all with cars in various states of their build along with the sheer scale of the factory.

sema4-shelhertigae26

Behind us stood a very rare original GT40 owned by Bob Bondurant  this was his personal car, and what a car it is too. In 1965 Bob won the FIA Manufacturers’ World Championship for Shelby American and Ford, winning seven out of ten races against the class dominating Ferrari 250 GTOs in Europe. Bob is also known for being a driving instructor to actors James Garner, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Robert Wagner and Tim Allen, Tom Cruise and Nicolas Cage to name a few.

sema4-shelhertigae15

We were taken down the ramps and shown each of the cars in detail, and what they (Shelby) do to them to make them a “Shelby”. If you thought it was “scoops and stickers” then you are so far from the truth. The cars are ducted, cooled, tweaked, upgraded etc. but we will go into that a little later.

sema4-shelhertigae27

The cars have to be registered when they arrive at Shelby in order for the work to be done. The stock parts are removed from the car ready for the Shelby parts. This car below was going back to Australia as a rare right hand drive Shelby version. The little blue stickers on and around the car are where the body shop checks for damage, and what needs to be touched up after the series of complex engineering work has been completed.

sema4-shelhertigae30

Moving further on there was works race cars, replica GT40’s and Cobras of course.

sema4-shelhertigae40

We got up close to a Cobra being assembled. All the racks that hold the parts are covered so they don’t even put the smallest of marks on them, such is the level of care and detail.

sema4-shelhertigae53

The Cobra was waiting for the engine to be fitted and Vince explained the quality control that it all goes through before it even gets near the car.

sema4-shelhertigae62

Moving round to the back of the factory, are the little seen areas of the body assembly. There is a huge storage area off to the side where the parts from the new cars that were removed are stored before the new bespoke Shelby parts are fitted to the car. Some of these “spare” parts are sold on or maybe modified as required.

sema4-shelhertigae64

The car’s brakes and suspension having their upgrades fitted.

sema4-shelhertigae66

The very back of the workshop well away from the public gaze is the body paint and prep areas, the light booths will show any imperfections for the paint to be fixed.

sema4-shelhertigae72

We mentioned earlier on that the cars are all ducted and vented etc. The hoods are designed to cool the engine as every 100deg saved from the hot running engines will give around 4obhp, that’s A staggering figure just for cooling. The engines can run hot to about 400deg, but with the Shelby ducting designs this can be reduced to around 260deg, that’s why the venting is so important and the simple (in principle) way to obtain more power. This also applies to the brakes, there are cooling ducts under the cars to make sure the brake temperatures do not go out of tolerance no matter what the style of driving. The fabrication area is where each car has its own bespoke bodywork fitted or panels made for the car. Vince showed us the process for the carbon fibre and the fibreglass made on site, quite literally everything is hand finished to an impeccable standard.

sema4-shelhertigae78

Vince explains and shows us why all the little fins and ducts are there along with the benefits they produce. Nothing on a Shelby is just for show when it comes to the panels & bodywork.

sema4-shelhertigae94

Vince and Yogi discuss the finer points of body styling with Shelby’s best.

sema4-shelhertigae140

We emerged from the body shop out into the main factory area again, here more cars were being finished and some more new parts storage.

sema4-shelhertigae101

Vince explained that every single car is given a thorough road test adjusted and tested again. Vince gave us an example of one particular car even had a tiny break wobble at the rear at high-speed braking. The problem was tracked down to the position of the rear calipers being to high. A new design and fabrication was made to the calipers to re-position them, just to stop that issue that any mere mortal wouldn’t even detect, but they are there. If you think that the Shelby cars are expensive – now you know they are cheap considering what you get and what goes on behind the scenes to make your car the best it can be.

sema4-shelhertigae122

The suspension handling is set up to the tires and their pressures when testing as on this 1000bhp  just back from an initial test run. So when the owners change the wheels, tires or stance, they are undoing all that fine tuning and hours of testing done by professionals.

We walked up to the cleaning area passing more completed cars and a trucks, vince, Yogi and Adam leading the way.

sema4-shelhertigae103

The obligatory photo shoot with Mustang Maniac’s core personnel and Vince.

sema4-shelhertigae106

The crew; Gary, Jason,Yogi, Vince, Adam and Mart.

sema4-shelhertigae137

We mentioned in an earlier post that you can sign the walls of the Shelby American Factory, which we obviously did a few days ago in the public area. This time Adam wanted to do something a little different, so the idea was born to draw around Adam and we all sign inside with a message.

sema4-shelhertigae108

Gary is quite a talented cartoonist and we put him on the spot to replicate our business card logo. We even stuck that business card in Adams silhouetted hand. What did we write? Just a message to the Shelby Factory and Cleo Shelby too from yesterdays catch up with her.

sema4-shelhertigae119

As Vince said, “there are no stickers or scoops here.”

For over two hours of Vince’s valuable time he answered our barrage of questions and showed us everything. As with most very busy people he was due at a meeting, we said our thanks and Vince departed leaving us to make our way back to the factory museum and shop. We of course took another look at the cars which are out of reach of the general public.

sema4-shelhertigae51

Then Chris and Mart took a Shelby for a spin! (OK, they just sat in it!)

sema4-shelhertigae124

That was our tour over; a rare, unique and personal guided tour around the whole of the Shelby factory. We weren’t allowed to take photo’s in couple of places, such as Vince’s own R & D area and another fabrication process area for obvious reasons. However, we were given that full unprecedented access and shown everything no stone unturned. Vince even showed us what he was working on for the 2017 Mustang in that R&D area! Not bad for a “small time parts dealer” as Adam said again.

That leaves us to say a huge thanks from all of us at Mustang Maniac to the  Shelby Heritage Center and Vince LaViolette for giving us the top-level VIP treatment for the morning. An incredible insight to one of the worlds most famous names in the automotive market.

“Adam is the UK’s leading Mustang Expert, highly recommended by the club and work out of a Mustang Disneyland with piles of spares, lines of parts cars, and treasures….” Quentin Willson – Classic Car Magazine June 2015.

“Mustang Maniac in Ware has done a really cracking job detailing the engine, fitting new suspension, replacing both floors and now she’s solid, shiny and sweet driving.” Quentin Willson – Classic Car Magazine June 2015. ————————————–

“Adam and the team, with a very special mention to Al, have had my car for a few weeks to carry out its annual inspection, MOT and to fix some jobs they had discussed with me last year. Having just collected it from them today (Fri 07/08/2015), it runs better now than it ever has thanks to the care, attention to detail and ‘other magic’ they know. As usual the whole process has been completely painless – it’s a great feeling to know that the people looking after my old car think as much of it as I do…so I have absolutely no worries leaving it in their capable hands. This time they completed all the jobs on my list as well as rectifying a few more that I never realised were an issue, thus saving me from future trouble. I would strongly recommend Adam and the Mustang Maniac team to anyone wanting proper experts to look after all their Mustang needs….then you can simply leave them to it in the knowledge they will always do what’s best for these lovely old cars” GW – retired Ford Motor Company Director ————————————–

“Mustang Maniac are the font of all knowledge. Adam is always there with advice and parts I need. My one stop Mustang shop. The standard of workmanship from his team is unmatched in the trade”. 101% recommended. http://onemanandhismustang.com —————————————-

‘Adam and his team cannot be more helpful, not only do they do what you ask to be done, they go be-yond and actually replace/repair or correct things that you would never know should be done. Always lend and ear, and get you out of tricky situations…I wouldn’t take my classic mustang anywhere else”! Lance Barrington. ————————————–

“Wow! As soon as I arrived at Mustang Maniac I knew I my car was in the right place. The service was so efficient, professional and boy do Adam & the Team know their stuff! I couldn’t recommend a company more highly. I even drove away with a tear in my eye – and this time it wasn’t the exhaust fumes!” Liv Davidson —————————————

“Chaps, what a difference, a lovely drive back home and even floored it for a while which chucked 40 odd years of leaves and crap out of the vents. Great fun at last! Thanks again for all your time and attention spent on the car you guys have done an amazing job. Cheers.” Jon O’Leary

————————————–

“The work that you guys at Mustang Maniacs have done on the car was phenomenal – differences you have made since you got it and did a couple of days work,  Pulls and accelerates noticeably better – absolutely beautifully and even sounds better.  The brakes also seem to work so much better and it handles and steers so so much better in the bends and straight – no more steering wobble or unnoticeable !!! Petrol consumption is also so much better – really very noticeable indeed.”

Adam Dabrowski.

“First of all thank you for your hospitality and the rubber aerial seal and the keyring. The drive home was an absolute pleasure. I enjoyed driving the car before, now I LOVE IT. You and Alan definitely worked your magic on the Stang. You have transformed it from a good car to a great car. I will be your life long loyal customer.”

Mitch Rustem

“Just a brief email to say thanks that I was made welcome on arrival and the effort for taking the time to show me around the workshop and meeting with the mechanic (Alan I think) who ran through the work and set up he carried out on my car, this felt a very personnel service indeed. This is testament to your knowledge and love of Mustangs and how you operate your business.

My Mustang felt so much more driveable with all the little tweaks done. The brakes felt so much sharper, I didn’t have to apply the regular 120lb of pressure to stop. The steering was much more tighter, it held the line on the motorway with no shaking at speed. The handling has improved threefold and actually goes where you steer now. I didn’t realise how poorly she handled until Mustang Maniac put it right. All the cosmetically components and upgrades have given me a huge smile. Absolutely love it.

Thanks again for making my Mustang a good drivable car. I will be back for the next upgrades and advice at some stage as a returning customer. A very happy Mustang owner.”

“Mustang Maniac done some suspension work on my 1966 Fastback in went in with the usual old car problems lots of noises and bangs and worsted of all lots of body roll, they fitted a new pair of front shocks and springs a new 1” shaw bar and they sorted some other jobs that needed doing, the car now looks great with its new shocks and springs and it is sitting right but best of all it’s driving like a completely different car to how it went in I’m really pleased with their service”

Kev Rushworth.

I have had a few orders from you now with many more to come and I would just like to say what a fantastic service you provide shipped on day of purchase received next day on every order 1st class the best If only the Americans could take a leaf out of your book Regards Greig Duffill

May 15, 2024 | ford performance staff, get set for thunderbird appreciation day may 19, then head for the colorado shelby rally june 6-10.

Thunderbird graphic

Ford enthusiasts are well-aware that April 17th is known as “National Mustang Day” and is celebrated all over the world each spring. But did you know that T-Birds have their own special day too? Ford Thunderbird owners know that their cars are “Unique In All the World!” as the classic Ford catchphrase proudly points out. That’s why each May, the three major Thunderbird enthusiast clubs promote a global “Thunderbird Appreciation Day” – which this year falls on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Ford produced more than 4 million Thunderbirds over the years but these cars are still a fairly rare sight to see on the road. So now’s the time for you to join other Thunderbird owners around the world as well as members of the Classic Thunderbird Club International, Vintage Thunderbird Club International, and the International Thunderbird Club as they celebrate these iconic cars on their 8th annual Appreciation Day. Celebrating Thunderbird Appreciation Day is all about sharing the beauty and legacy of your classic Thunderbird with the world. What better way to do this than by taking your prized possession out for a spin in public? Polish up that chrome, buff out the paint until it shines like new, and hit the road. Cruise down main streets, park at popular hangouts, or join a local car meet-up. The key is visibility – let people see and admire the timeless design and engineering of your Thunderbird. Engage with curious onlookers, share stories about your car's history, and maybe even offer a peek under the hood. It's a day to foster community appreciation, ignite conversations, and perhaps inspire the next generation of classic car enthusiasts. So, rev up those engines and let your Thunderbird be seen and celebrated on May 19!

Thunderbird Appreciation Day is also the perfect time to become part of the Thunderbird family by joining a T-Bird club, if you haven’t already. Simply visit the Ford Performance Club Connect website  to find a club near you. And don’t forget to share some photos of what you did on Thunderbird Appreciation Day 2024 on the various club websites and social media group pages – or send your activity info and pics to [email protected] so that we can celebrate too!

Head for the Mountains and Drive with the Colorado Shelby Rally Starting in Cripple Creek, CO, June 6-10

Looking for more “go” than “show” with your Shelby Mustang or Shelby F-Series? Then you should sign up for a Rocky Mountain drive of a lifetime from June 6-10. That’s when the 3rd Annual Colorado Shelby Rally will take place in the beautiful state of Colorado. Team Shelby Colorado Director Aaron Kerry tells us that this year’s rally encompasses cruising all the scenic routes through the mountains where you’ll have the opportunity to play in the snow in June. He expects some 35 Shelbys with more than 60 people to take in the event. This is where you get to make friends and mingle with families for relationships that will last for years to come! This year the rally starts off with a dinner kickoff party in the historic town of Cripple Creek, an old miner’s town that has the best casinos in the state of Colorado. Kerry hosts nightly raffles from the back of his Shelby with all of the sponsors' products and VIP-signed Shelby items. After roughly 1,300 miles over 4-1/2 days, the rally ends up at the Shelby American Collection in Boulder, Colorado. This museum has the world's largest collection of all-original Carrol Shelby cars and items, including the original "Ford vs. Ferrari" GT40's that raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours. The event VIP guest is the 2005 Ford GT’s Chief Designer Camilo Pardo driving his 2018 Ford GT along with World Champion racer Allen Grant. So what are you waiting for? Visit their website  for details and event sign-up info.

Celebrating the Mustang? Find Some Inspiration with an Insightful Book by Emeline King, Ford’s 1st Black Female Designer

Some well-read Mustang enthusiasts may have heard of Emeline King, as she was the primary designer on the fourth-generation SN-95 Mustang’s swoopy dual-cockpit interior. But what most people likely do not know is that Emeline was the first black female Transportation Designer in Ford Motor Company’s history. She went on to design a variety of components on other Fords, including the Thunderbird, during her nearly 25 years at the Blue Oval. And now she’s written an inspirational 366-page softcover book entitled. “What Do You Mean A Black Girl Can’t Design Cars? Emeline King, She Did It!” It’s on sale now across the book world, but we recommend you order your copy via her website HERE . It’s an insightful read and would make a great gift for any Mustang or car enthusiast – young or old – or for anyone who’s ever dreamed about designing cars but thought it could ever happen.

Here’s Why You Need to Register your Club or Facebook Group with Ford Performance Club Connect By now you must have heard about a Ford Performance program called “Club Connect” that can help all Ford and Mustang enthusiasts get connected with both Ford Motor Company and each other.  Only those clubs who register with the program are eligible for no-cost promotion and support from Ford Performance, so you owe it to members of your Mustang or Ford vehicle club or online forum to register and appear on our Ford enthusiast club map. All it takes is a visit to the Ford Performance Club Connect website  and a single click on the “Register Your Club” link. Once you fill out the form and hit “Submit,” you’ll be notified within just a few days of your acceptance in Ford Performance Club Connect -- it’s that simple, and it’s FREE

The value in all of this is that whenever you plan a club or group activity, you can see what other clubs and groups are in your area that you may wish to contact and ask to join you at a show or event. It also allows Ford Performance to see all the clubs and groups in a certain area, so that when we are coming to town or planning a special Ford event in your city or state, you and your club members can be contacted to participate. What to expect at the Cleveland County Arts Council garden tour

Plants, flowers and gardening materials will also be available at a stop along the tour.

Are you a fan of flowers, the outdoors and garden art?

The Cleveland County Arts Council has just the event with the 2024 Garden and Outdoor Living Tour.

The self-guided tour will showcase seven outdoor living spaces around the county on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Arts Council located at 111 S. Washington St., Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by calling 704-484-2787. People can also find the event on the Arts Council Facebook or purchase tickets at the individual homes the day of the event (cash/check only).

In addition to the tour, event-sponsor Paradise Garden Center at 460 Cherryville Road, invites participants to stop in to see their selection of plants. While there, enjoy a slice of wood fired pizza in their outdoor kitchen from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tour locations include:

Billy and Catherine Lovelace

4021 Harris Creek Road, Lawndale

We built our home on a little piece of paradise with a wonderful mountain view from sunrise to sunset. We began our yard and garden with a clean slate and an abundance of full sun and little shade on what used to be farmland with rootings, sproutings and plants that had been started at our previous home. We set out to create a garden walk similar to the walking bridge in Lake Lure and initially planted somewhat randomly. We are going into our third year, and the garden is establishing its own character.

Steve Leatherwood

121 Carriage Run, Shelby

Our yard/garden consists of several major groupings of plants. The largest group is conifers, hollies and other evergreens. In addition, we have a number of flowering plants including day lilies, petunias, peonies, hydrangea, roses and others. We have a small vegetable garden with tomatoes, peppers, squash and other kitchen veggies and herbs. There is a small “orchard” consisting of apple, cherry and peach trees, grapes and blueberries. Other trees include elm, maple, pecan, willow, oak, red twig dogwoods, pines, Japanese maples, birch and crepe myrtle trees.

Beth and Steve Gerhart

51 Heritage Lane, Shelby

Beth and Steve Gerhart retired to Shelby in 2012. Landscaping, including flower gardens and arbors, was the first improvement planned for Beth’s hobby at this home on Moss Lake. She is a member of the American Camellia Society and the local Herb Society. Varieties of camellias moved in pots from Louisiana now form a row planted on the east side of the front yard. You will find camellias also tucked into other parts of the gardens along with a mature holly tree, a magnolia and jasmine arbor, hydrangeas, azaleas and roses. Past the garage, on the kitchen deck is an assortment of culinary herbs. A sidewalk and steps, beside the small goldfish pond end at the lower-level patio.

Bill and Jan Murray

412 Johnsfield R oad, Shelby

Welcome to our verdant oasis and botanical wonderland. A symphony of colors, scents and textures to soothe, and relax, in a literal plant paradise. Our French Country style home is situated on 2.5 acres of professionally designed landscapes with a reclaimed quarter acre farm pond as the centerpiece of the property. We have lived here four years and have spent considerable time and effort to reclaim, refurbish and expand upon the flora that was in place. The past owner spared no effort or expense in their initial landscaping efforts and our efforts are certainly a work in progress. Come and experience the botanical treasures which include an eclectic mix of flowering flora, towering Cryptomeria standing sentinel over Japanese Maples, Ferns, Heuchera, Rhododendron and numerous varieties of Azaleas.

Bryan and Beth Shull

501 Williamsfield Dr., Shelby

Our traditional craftsman-style home, yard and garden in the Johnsfield neighborhood of Shelby is 10 years old. Loving the mountains, we feel like we are there with the large evergreen trees that are a focal point of our yard. Over the last few years, we have been adding annuals and perennials to our landscape. Bryan loves working outside and keeping it well maintained. We welcome your visit, please feel free to rest and enjoy the scenery on our porches or at the fire pit.

Joe and Janet Bothel

1114 Bethlehem Church Road, Grover

We moved to our property on Bethlehem Church Road in 1995 after having relocated from western Pennsylvania to western New York and then to Charleston, West Virginia. When we arrived here, there were only a few trees and a swimming pool. The landscape was stark and bordered mostly idle farmland. Today our property boasts many more trees, and the pool became a garden. Ten years ago, we acquired six suri alpacas from a farm that was downsizing in eastern Ohio. That is how we became Out of the Blue Farm. We strive to provide sanctuary to as much wildlife as we can by planting keystone trees, including oaks and black cherry (which are host to at least 450 insects) and by providing ample pollinator plants.

Boyd and Barbara Anthony

44 Lenick Drive, Shelby

Built on family farm land by the First Broad River, our dream home, inspired by unique coastal architecture is our oasis. Landscaping and outdoor living areas feature unusual plantings accented with bronze sculptures among peaceful areas to rest and enjoy our gardens that we have created over the past 15 years. We hope that you will enjoy the tour.

Local News | Oberlin Heritage Center offering range of tours during Oberlin College’s commencement weekend

The Oberlin Heritage Center is offering a guided tour of the historic Jewett House May 24 as a part of the organization's Oberlin College commencement weekend festivities. (John Elrod -- The Morning Journal)

“Commencement weekend has always been a very special part of town and college life in Oberlin,” said Amanda Manahan, museum education and tour coordinator for the Oberlin Heritage Center. “It’s one of the more vibrant weekends, so we enjoy participating in that.”

One of the ways people can participate is a self-guided tablet tour.

A person can check out a tablet that takes them on the Oberlin Heritage Center’s “Picture the Past: Downtown Oberlin or Freedom’s Friends: Abolition & the Underground Railroad” tour.

“We’ve had the outdoor tablet tours for a few years now, and people can come check one out and explore the community at their own leisure,” Manahan said.

Visitors also can take a self-guided tour of the Heritage Center’s Monroe House if they are unable to attend a guided tour, she said.

“For the self-guided Monroe House tours, we know families might not have the time to join us for a full tour or history walk, so we wanted a way for them to access this history in a way that is more convenient to them,” Manahan said.

The guided tours range from 45 to 90 minutes, but there is limited space.

Those tours include Underground Railroad, architecture, civil rights and Oberlin’s origin history themed walks and a tour of the Heritage Center’s Jewett House.

Manahan said the stories in these programs highlight Oberlin’s significant relevance in American history.

“Oberlin history is national history,” she said. “Oberlin has both influenced and reflected what has happened in the United States in the 19th and 20th century.

“We use that history to explore broader American history.”

Manahan said the commencement weekend programs also provide a good opportunity for graduating students and their families to learn about Oberlin.

“It’s nice to recognize where the students’ education fits into the history,” she said. “We hear all the time from alumni who went to Oberlin College, ‘I wish I knew this before I left Oberlin.’

“They might come visit later, but never came here as a student.”

The full list of Heritage Center’s commencement weekend programs can be found at https://www.oberlinheritagecenter.org/.

SAN ANTONIO – Internationally acclaimed superstar Peso Pluma has changed the date of his San Antonio performance, which was previously scheduled for mid-July, according to a press release.

The Grammy Awards winner will now perform his upcoming “Exodo” arena tour at the Frost Bank Center on Saturday, July 27. The concert was originally slated to take place on Wednesday, July 17.

A press release said the change is due to several new dates being added to the schedule.

On the tour, he will perform an all-new show with a new set design, along with his live band.
