Singapore Events

Due to its rich multicultural heritage, Singapore’s events are many and wide-ranging. From religious celebrations to music and film festivals, Singapore has it all.

Most events in Singapore focus on family, tradition, myths or religion. At these times, Marina Bay and the ethnic temples and quarters of Chinatown , Little India and Geylang come alive.

2024/2025 Singapore Events, Expo & Festival Dates Calendar

Due to the large number of Chinese people living in Singapore, many Chinese celebrations are held there. The Chinese New Year is one of the biggest celebrations on the event calendar. Generally celebrated in January or February each year (the date fluctuates), this event marks the transition from summer to winter. If you are in Singapore during the Chinese New Year, check out some of the planned events, as you will learn so much about the rich Chinese culture that continues to influence Singapore today.

The Dragon Boat Festival represents the culture of the people and the Chinese influence over Singapore’s past. As over seventy per cent of the population in Singapore is Chinese, it is a small wonder that most Chinese festivals are celebrated with much enthusiasm in this country.

Singapore’s National Day is held each year on the 9th of August in memory of Singapore’s freedom from Malaysia in 1965. During this day, there is a National Parade, a speech from the Prime Minister of Singapore and a huge fireworks display.

The Singapore Night Festival is an annual street festival held over two weekends, celebrating the arts and Singapore’s rich cultural heritage. The festival is a massive street party centred around an artistic extravaganza of fun and entertainment. There are heaps to see and do, including musical performances, improvisational theatre, film screenings, roving street performers, colourful building-sized light installations, dance, aerial performances, demonstrations of magic and illusion and cultural exhibitions.

With fashion shows, the Singapore Grand Prix and many outdoor festivals, there is always something to see and do in Singapore.

Singapore Tourism Board launches “Made in Singapore” global campaign

' src=

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has unveiled its latest global campaign, “Made in Singapore,” (MIS) aimed at inspiring travellers to choose Singapore as their next travel destination. The campaign puts a fresh spin on the Passion Made Possible destination brand, spotlighting quintessentially Singaporean experiences, from iconic attractions to hidden gems, all of which are deeply rooted in the unique passions that characterize Singapore’s identity.

singapore tourism board events

Speaking on the latest campaign, GB Srithar, Regional Director – India, Middle East, South Asia & Africa, Singapore Tourism Board said, “Indian travellers are increasingly seeking to connect deeply with a travel destination by venturing into off-the-beaten-path, less-explored, and previously unimagined experiences. This new campaign aims to resonate with these discerning Indian travellers, by highlighting how the ordinary is made extraordinary in Singapore through the rich tapestry of unique and distinctly Singaporean experiences. ‘Made in Singapore’ a testament to how a destination like ours makes possible a travel experience filled with a renewed sense of wonder and limitless possibilities.”

Kenneth Lim, Assistant Chief Executive (Marketing Group), Singapore Tourism Board, said, “The Made in Singapore campaign is anchored on our Passion Made Possible destination brand, which embodies the Singapore spirit of fulfilling individual passions and creating new possibilities. Through this latest campaign, we would like to reinforce Singapore as a destination that turns imagination into reality. Our goal is to showcase how everyday ordinary moments are made extraordinary and unforgettable, experienced only in Singapore – to inspire travel here.”

singapore tourism board events

Buoyed by strong fundamentals that make Singapore an attractive leisure and business destination, the country’s tourism sector is poised for strong growth. However, competition among destinations continues to intensify, along with changes in travel behaviour. A study conducted in Nov 2021 with over 3,000 respondents across 10 overseas markets found that over 60% of people are looking for more purposeful travel, and close to 80% of those planning for purposeful travel are looking for destinations that inspire them.  The MIS campaign therefore aims to keep Singapore top of mind and connect across different travellers by showcasing the country’s key attributes: an inspiring City in Nature destination that is not only vibrant and cosmopolitan, but also rooted in strong multicultural heritage.

singapore tourism board events

To build emotional affinity and inspire travel to Singapore, the campaign adopts a bolder and playful approach to convey the spirit of MIS: where a twist on the familiar creates a travel experience filled with wonder. From forest bathing at the unexpected setting of Jewel Changi Airport’s Rain Vortex, to working up a sweat dining at Lau Pa Sat hawker centre, and witnessing a colourful “air show” at the all-new Mandai Bird Paradise, Singapore turns imagination into real and inspiring experiences for travellers.

singapore tourism board events

The latest additions to Singapore’s destination offerings also reflect this quirky spirit. Imagine this: at Sentosa’s The Palawan @ Sentosa by Shangri-La Group, the beachside lifestyle takes a thrilling turn with innovative beachside entertainment, including electric go-karts, a floating aqua park, mini-golf, beach clubs, and delectable food trucks. At PLUME, the newly minted cocktail bar at Pan Pacific Singapore, guests can savour fresh flavours inspired by local birds, offering a unique twist to the traditional cocktail experience. And for those seeking a one-of-a-kind culinary journey, Lou Shang, a hidden gem of a café, serves fusion dishes inspired by beloved local favourites, adding an exciting twist to familiar flavours. (Refer to Annex A for new, innovative experiences that travellers can look forward to in Singapore.)

MIS replaces STB’s SingapoReimagine international recovery campaign launched in November 2020 to rekindle passion for travel in Singapore.

Singapore Tourism Board sparks reimagining a new era of travel, organises Cruise & MICE Conclaves to engage travellers of tomorrow

singapore tourism board events

The day-long forums featured a storied line-up of industry luminaries leading the change across the tourism and lifestyle industries.

MUMBAI – With today’s Indian travellers exploring novel and non-traditional avenues in their quest for greater value from their travel experiences, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) brought together some of the leading minds in the tourism and lifestyle industries, to share their perspectives on the rapidly-changing market at its ‘Cruise & MICE Conclaves’ thought-leadership conferences in Mumbai on 10th March.

Hearing cutting-edge insights through a panel discussion, keynote address and product sharing sessions, more than 250 attendees from across India’s business world learnt more about the power of technology in revolutionizing MICE travel, harnessing data to effectively understand and engage young Indian consumers, and reimagine Cruise travel to tap into new consumer segments.

The day-long forums featured a storied line-up of industry luminaries leading the change across the tourism and lifestyle industries; including:

  • Sukumar Verma , Managing Director, Informa Markets Singapore ;
  • Sneha Choksi , Senior Business Development Associate, Tirun Travel Marketing ;
  • Dikshaa Batra , Assistant Vice President, Resorts World Cruises ;
  • Sridhar Keppurengan , Cross Border Payments, India & South Asia, Visa ; and
  • Alexander Valladares , Chief Marketing Officer, Impresario Handmade Restaurants

The sessions focused on how changing consumer preferences have prompted the industry to respond and reimagine tourism experiences to stay ahead of the curve. Experts in the cruise industry spotlighted the importance of creating immersive experiences that align with the values and preferences of young travelers, deploying innovation and technology in the process. With 67% of Indians under the age of 35 years and the average age of Indian cruise travellers being 37 years, which is among the youngest in the world, there is much potential to tap into and grow cruising interest among the young Indian adults.

With millennials – and Gen Z soon in the future – travelling frequently for business, Sukumar shared his insight that experiential travel is slowly becoming the norm in MICE movements. With more and more business travellers combining leisure elements as part of their trips, these bleisure travellers seek out diverse experiences in the destinations, including culinary, lifestyle and cultural. Importantly, both the sessions on cruise and MICE independently addressed the growing need for sustainability in the sector – including a clear signal that consumers are revisiting conscious, sustainability-focused destinations.

Over the last few decades, Singapore has established itself as a global business and leisure hub. The country hosted several MICE events in 2022, including the Singapore Airshow in February and the Fintech Festival in November, which attracted a record turnout of more than 62,000 attendees from over 115 countries since its inaugural edition in 2016. On the Meetings and Incentive (M&I) travel front, we welcomed the SBI and Herbalife incentive groups, which were the largest post-pandemic groups from India.

India was the top source market for cruise tourism in Singapore in 2019, with over 160,00 Indian travellers who cruised from Singapore; post pandemic in 2022, cruise bookings were on a good recovery track, with more than 49,000 of the 686,000 Indian travellers arriving into Singapore via sea. With a strong growth trajectory in cruise travel and the evolving expectations of discerning, affluent and sophisticated Indian travellers, destinations are increasingly re-examining their offerings could be reshaped to meet the consumer needs.

Last week at ITB Berlin , the STB launched its brand-new ‘SingapoRewards’ scheme, which offers complimentary, hidden-gem experiences to every international visitors hungry to experience Singapore in a more immersive way. This new tourism marketplace is a key driver for the Cruise & MICE Conclave, drawing on industry leaders to share their critical insights into engaging the new Indian traveller.

Speaking about the STB’s efforts to promote reimagined cruise and MICE travel in the Indian market, Mr. G.B Srithar , Regional Director for India, Middle East, South Asia & Africa, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said, “Singapore’s proximity, within a 3.5 to 5.5 hour flying radius, and the extensive network of flights directly connecting 16 gateways across India to the destination, allow Indian travellers the chance to easily and repeatedly experience Singapore’s boundary-pushing destination experiences. Travellers could choose ‘Fly-Cruise-Stay’ holidays to soak in the best of experiences both on land and onboard a cruise ship, as well as M&I trips featuring uniquely immersive, unconventional experiences. With our reimagined MICE and Cruise experiences, and bolstered by our world-class capabilities, facilities, and infrastructure, we are confident that Singapore will continue to meet the unique needs of tomorrow’s Indian travellers.”

In a move to reinforce its commitment to sustainability, Singapore has positioned itself as a green destination, perfectly blending biophilic elements with its urban cityscape so travellers can soak in the beauty of nature while in the heart of the city. With the modern-day travellers growing ever more tech-savvy and companies aggressively pushing their green credentials, this suite of reimagined experiences, its technology push and Singapore’s positioning as a destination for sustainable travel is further burnishing the country’s appeal to MICE and Cruise travellers.

How Singapore’s Meetings and Events Industry is Going Virtual During the Coronavirus

Singapore Tourism Board + Skift

Singapore Tourism Board + Skift

July 8th, 2020 at 9:01 AM EDT

Singapore’s meetings and events were put on pause earlier this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But event industry leaders, meeting planners, vendors, venues, and tech innovators across the country were able to quickly shift many of these events from physical to virtual, showcasing the country’s innovative and entrepreneurial spirit.

Singapore Tourism Board

This sponsored content was created in collaboration with a Skift partner.

Singapore has long been a leading destination for international business events. It’s the top Asia-Pacific meeting city on the annual International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA)’s global rankings for 18 consecutive years and was ranked number one on the 2019 list of top meeting destinations in Asia by Cvent.

But as in the case of so many other countries around the world, its meetings industry has been adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. However, this doesn’t mean that gatherings have come to a full stop. Instead, many planned events and conferences have pivoted to virtual as meeting and event industry leaders, event planners, vendors, venues, and tech innovators across Singapore have come together to find creative solutions.

Despite many hurdles, Singapore’s meetings and events industry has pulled through to innovate during this time, thanks to the country’s vibrant business culture, strong infrastructure, stable government, and a proven track record in delivering high-quality events. “The agility and creativity of our partners has allowed them to quickly pivot to online platforms and test digital solutions that will be useful for future forms of events, while ensuring that audience engagement and collaboration, as well as quality content, continues to be delivered,” said Andrew Phua, executive director of Singapore Tourism Board.

“Innovation is an important part of Singapore’s business culture, which appeals to global businesses large and small. Our plug-and-play business environment allows tech companies to get their solutions to market quickly, and gives businesses immediate access to some of the most technologically advanced infrastructures,” he said. Knowing this, it makes sense why The Global Innovative Index ranked Singapore as the most innovative country in Asia in 2019 and Bloomberg’s Innovation Index named it the third most innovative nation in 2020.

Tech Disruptors Are Leading the Shift to Virtual

Singapore is home to a number of tech startups and businesses that are facilitating the shift of physical business events to virtual or hybrid formats. GlobalSign.in , which specializes in providing technology exclusively for the meetings and events industry, is one such company. When the coronavirus pandemic struck the Asia-Pacific region in early 2020, all physical events that the company was supporting were either cancelled or postponed indefinitely. Faced with this unanticipated challenge, GlobalSign.in was nevertheless quick to react. As CEO Veemal Gungadin explained, “We immediately started engaging with our clients to shift their events to the digital realm.”

Educating their customers was the first step for GlobalSign.in, since many had no experience in live video streaming and the logistics required for it. Through one-on-one consultation sessions, a webinar series, and online content targeted at event professionals and businesses, GlobalSign.in focused on providing actionable resources to guide meeting planners on the key steps to transition their physical live events to virtual ones.

singapore tourism board GlobalSignIn virtual meetings and events

GlobalSign.in also launched a new product, GEVME Live , to address their clients’ pressing needs to go virtual. This product also fills the gap it saw in the virtual event tech market. “While in-person events will be back soon, they will not be the same. In-person events will need to have a digital component in the new normal post-Covid-19,” Gungadin said. The event management platform was built specifically with the unique needs of digital events in mind and consists of a “digital venue,” allowing organizers to brand and build their own online engagement experiences for their events.

Jublia , an events engagement platform based in Singapore that facilitates a combination of live, virtual and hybrid expos and conferences, was also hit hard by the pandemic. Many event companies that Jublia partnered with postponed their projects, with some even going out of business. In the face of this reality, Jublia also saw an urgent need to help its customers quickly pivot their physical events to virtual ones.

As Errol Lim, co-founder and chief operating officer of Jublia, explained, “We’ve consulted with many of our clients to develop a suitable and sustainable virtual offering, which they can use to easily convert their affected events from the get-go and monetize effectively.”

Jublia’s technology platform was initially designed for live events, but has now been adapted to virtual and hybrid events. It focuses on three fundamental elements that Lim believes are essential to making any event platform a success: relevant networking, content discovery, and interest-based engagement. The company has also developed a highly secure virtual video meeting tool that filled in the gaps of typical webinar software for event planners.

singapore tourism board Jublia

One of the first physical events facilitated by Jublia to virtual was a U.S.-based summit (which has requested to stay anonymous), set to take place in early March 2020. This event typically attracts senior leadership of the industry sector and is a premium platform for delegates to connect with key decision-makers in one-on-one private deal-making meetings.

Prior to restrictions on mass gatherings, Jublia’s solution was employed by its clients to convenience their event participants with a curated list of pre-scheduled meetings, alongside pre-selected conference sessions. When the ban on mass gatherings was imposed, over 400 high-level business meetings were already planned. This required Jublia to quickly respond with a workable alternative. “Against all odds, our team managed to propose and deliver a solution in record time. We moved speedily to convert the entire live event into a virtual event in under 24 hours,” Lim said. Nearly all of the pre-planned meetings took place virtually, without a hitch.

How Singapore’s IDEM 2020 Became a Virtual Event

When trade fair company Koelnmesseand the Singapore Dental Association initially got wind of the coronavirus pandemic in February, they agreed to postpone the International Dental Exhibition and Meeting (IDEM), which was set to be held in Singapore, from April to June. However, once the severity of the Covid-19 pandemic became clear, IDEM 2020 was converted from a physical conference to a virtual event in a matter of weeks out of concern for the safety and well-being of its exhibitors, attendees, and partners.

As Mathias Kuepper, managing director at Koelnmesse, which oversees the event production of IDEM 2020, explained, “Once we decided to go virtual, it quickly became clear that we could not simply replicate the entire physical event and emulate the in-person experience online. Instead, we selected the individual parts of IDEM that we thought would be most valuable to our exhibitors and attendees and translate most successfully to a digital format.”

“The virtual edition of IDEM 2020 will center around content,” Kuepper said. The online platform will provide livestreamed and pre-recorded conference sessions and lectures, which, as in the case of its physical events of the past, enable dental professionals to acquire Continuing Education (CE) Points, verified by the Singapore Dental Council.

At the same time, exhibitors from around the globe will be able to showcase their products and solutions, and safely connect, network, and engage with attendees. Instead of creating an online trade show to walk around virtually, event organizers opted to showcase them through an easy-to-navigate, searchable listing. “We assessed various online platforms and attended several other virtual exhibitions when considering this,” Kuepper said. “While virtual trade shows might add a ‘wow’ factor and gamification component to the event, we felt that they were often more of a distraction rather than adding real value to participants.”

Kuepper knew that they had to reassess its participation fees to reduce the barriers of entry for the virtual version of IDEM 2020 and to build trust with its customers. All exhibitors who had initially signed on for IDEM 2020 received a full refund of their participation, as well as a complimentary listing in the digital exhibitor list. For a small fee, they had the option to purchase enhanced branding opportunities and expanded access to attendees. Ticket fees for attendees were cut by about 50 percent, and a full refund was offered should they not be satisfied with the digital experience.

According to Kuepper, while the process of pivoting to virtual has been challenging, producing the digital edition of IDEM 2020 has illustrated that going virtual does offer future opportunities. “We will definitely go back to in-person events as soon as the Covid-19 situation is under control,” he said. “But we are continuing to explore new digital technologies, which may result in hybrid events that include both physical and virtual formats. The most important thing is that it adds value to our attendees and exhibitors.”

The Future of Meetings and Events in Singapore and Beyond

Physical business-to-business meetings and events are critical platforms for connections and partnerships, catalyzing business growth, and driving economies forward. During the pandemic, virtual events have shown to be viable alternatives. However, it remains to be seen if the virtual format would ever fully substitute the need for face-to-face business interactions. In fact, there could even be a greater appreciation for live in-person events when the global pandemic outbreak is under control.

Nevertheless, the “pivot to virtual” that has characterized much of the business events industry in recent months has presented planners with the opportunity to incorporate meaningful and effective digital experiences into future events and conferences. These new digital technologies will likely be integrated into physical events once they return, creating a richer online and offline hybrid experience. In most cases, digital technology won’t completely replace the overall meeting and event experience, but will enhance and improve it.

As Lim explained, “There will be a surge in more powerful event technologies as digital establishes itself as a vital tool for continued and prolonged audience engagement. Covid-19 didn’t create this new need for digital, rather it merely accelerated its adoption throughout the events sector.”

Phua agreed that even after the Covid-19 pandemic subsides, hybrid events and webinars will form a more significant part of the business events industry across Singapore, as wider audiences can be reached with cost-effective digital solutions. “Many of our industry players are already exploring how they can incorporate technology for hybrid events,” he said. “As we aim for recovery and prepare for a ‘new normal’ in meetings and events, now is the best time for companies in our industry to adopt new technologies to address attendee and planner wants and needs.”

A vibrant and inspiring Destination Singapore that we are proud of.

To shape a dynamic tourism landscape for Singapore in partnership with industry and community

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore. It champions the development of Singapore's tourism sector, one of the country's key service sectors and economic pillars, and undertakes the marketing and promotion of Singapore as a tourism destination.

The tourism sector currently contributes 4 per cent to Singapore’s gross domestic product. Tourism plays an essential role in reinforcing Singapore’s status as a vibrant global city that is a magnet for capital, businesses and talent. It also enhances the quality and diversity of leisure options for local residents and helps to create a living environment that Singaporeans can be proud to call home.

STB strives to ensure that tourism remains an important economic pillar through long-term strategic planning, and by forging partnerships, driving innovation and ensuring excellence in the tourism sector. It continues to market Singapore’s multi-faceted appeal as a premier business and leisure destination, and offer empowering and customised experiences. We bring the Passion Made Possible brand to life by differentiating Singapore as a vibrant destination that inspires people to share and deepen their passions. This is a unified brand between STB and Economic Development Board (EDB) which will allow the international marketing of Singapore for tourism and business purposes. STB also regularly reviews and updates the tourism regulatory framework to ensure its relevance in the current business environment, while providing support and incentives to catalyse the private sector to take the lead in investing for growth.

While STB leads in driving tourism development, it cannot do it alone; continued support from industry players is crucial in ensuring the success and sustainable growth of the sector. In the face of growing challenges such as resource scarcity and increasingly discerning travellers, there is a need to focus on yield-driven quality growth. As such, STB and tourism industry players have to work collaboratively to continue to innovate and create value for visitors. STB also aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences, expertise and resources among industry players to raise industry capability and competitiveness, maximise business opportunities and forge long-term win-win partnerships.

Strong support and active participation from Singapore residents are also imperative to the tourism sector as they are an integral part of Singapore’s identity and appeal. STB will continue to work with tourism industry partners to nurture public engagement as part of its tourism development efforts; every local resident is a potential advocate for tourism and together, their collective ideas and energies can contribute to the sustainable development of the tourism sector.

To navigate the tourism sector through the next phase of growth, STB will be pursuing  Quality Tourism  - a model of tourism development that emphasises innovative enterprise, local engagement and strong economic contribution.

The Singapore Tourist Promotion Board (STPB) was first established in 1964 with the mandate to promote Singapore as a tourist destination. It signalled the government’s recognition of tourism’s potential as an important contributor to the country’s economy.

STPB started out with a staff strength of 25. That year, Singapore welcomed 91,000 visitors.

Under STPB, the early stages of Singapore’s tourism development focused on raising the awareness of Singapore as a destination and building up tourism infrastructure, including major attractions such as Sentosa Island and the Singapore Zoological Gardens.

In the 1970s, the Board started marketing the city as a venue for conventions and organised events to draw visitors.

In the 1980s, STPB oversaw the implementation of a S$1 billion Tourism Product Development Plan, which called for the preservation of the Singapore's historic districts, such as Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street, the rejuvenation of the Singapore River, and the creation of new iconic products and events.

To reflect a major shift in the way tourism was championed as a key economic driver, STPB was renamed the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in 1997. STB expanded its role beyond destination promotion and started to establish Singapore as a regional tourism hub for both tourism companies and tourists. It marked a decisive move towards tourism industry development, an approach that continues to distinguish STB from many other national tourism organisations that focus almost exclusively on marketing and promotional activities.

Corporate Identity

The Board's new name and corporate identity were officially unveiled by then-Second Minister for Trade and Industry BG (NS) George Yeo on 19 November 1997 to reflect the Board expanding its role beyond that of simply promoting tourism.

The new identity of the Singapore Tourism Board is encased in a shape that is derived from an architectural detail found in Singapore's Peranakan shophouses. This, together with the 'Singapore' logotype in calligraphic script, reflects the modern, multi-cultural yet distinctly Asian nature of our island republic and its people.

The rich green colour of the identity is corporate and distinctive. It also signifies the tropical Garden City that is home to STB, and continued growth of Singapore’s tourism sector.
