A visit to Singapore is a glimpse into the future. From its modern and almost surreal airport  to its eye-catching and ever-changing skyline, Singapore is continuously innovative.

Even though the tourist entry requirements for most nationalities are straightforward, Singapore is known for its commitment to the rules. Here's what you need to know about visas for Singapore, including what types of visas are available and the rules you’ll need to navigate for trouble-free travel.

What you need to know about visas in Singapore

The visa requirements for travel to Singapore depend on your nationality, how many days you'll spend in the country and why you're visiting. Citizens of 164 different countries can enter Singapore as tourists for a period of 30 or 90 days without a visa.  

Passport holders from the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan and the United States get 90 days visa-free in Singapore, while citizens of some other countries can stay a maximum of 30 days without applying for a visa.

Travelers from countries that aren't on the visa waiver list  have to apply for either an e-visa or a regular tourist visa, depending on their nationality. While e-visa applications can be easily done at any online e-visa provider and have a processing time of just one day, regular visas are a bit more involved, requiring travelers to get in contact with their nearest Singaporean diplomatic mission or apply for a visa through an agent.

Singapore's Frequent Traveller Programme

The Frequent Traveller Programme allows visitors from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States to use the automated clearance facilities at immigration, a process that significantly simplifies entering Singapore and helps frequent travelers avoid long wait times at peak hours.

What else do you need when visiting Singapore?

All tourists arriving in Singapore must have a valid passport (with a minimum validity of six months at the time of departure), sufficient funds for their stay in Singapore and an SG Arrival Card.

Unlike most other Southeast Asian countries, Singapore does not have a paper-based Disembarkation Card to be filled out on arrival in the country. Instead, all travelers (including those enrolled in the Frequent Traveller Programme) are required to submit an SG Arrival Card online, which asks for basic personal information, trip details and a health declaration. Obtain an SG Arrival Card on the MyICA phone app or the official ICA website .

All travelers, including residents, who arrive in Singapore from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission must present a yellow fever vaccine certificate. Travelers who do not have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate are liable to be quarantined at their own cost for up to six days.

Will I get a stamp in my passport?

Travelers passing through immigration at Changi Airport receive an electronic Visit Pass (e-Pass) via email rather than a passport stamp. The e-Pass contains details of the visit pass granted, including the maximum number of days and the last day you're allowed to stay in Singapore.

Singapore Tourist visa

Singapore is an island city-state on the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia. Singapore’s green sanctuaries and vibrant cities bustle with state-of-the-art architecture, luxurious resorts, history-rich neighborhoods, lush parks and gardens, beautiful waterfalls, and exciting world-class sites and events. For entry into Singapore, some foreign nationals can enter visa-free, while others are required to obtain a visa. You are advised to apply for a Singapore visa within 30 days prior to your trip to Singapore. Please note that a visa does not guarantee entry into Singapore, as the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) makes final entrance determinations.

Required Documents for Singapore Tourist Visa

The following are the required documents for online application through your local contact or authorized visa agent or strategic partner:.

For applicant:

• A completed visa application Form 14A
• One (1) photocopy of applicant’s biodata passport page, valid for at least 6 months from entry date into Singapore
• color photo on white background
• taken within last 3 months
• on non-reflective, matte or semi-matte finish paper
• meets ICA requirements

For Singapore local contact or strategic partner (if applicable):

• A completed Form V39A

These are the required documents for your application through the Singapore embassy, consulate or VAC:

• Proof of payment of visa application fee
• One (1) photocopy of your passport biodata page and all passport pages bearing prior travel records
• Return/onward ticket
• Hotel reservations

For local sponsor:

• Photocopy of Singapore ID card

Please be aware that additional documents may be required.

Singapore Tourist Visa Application Steps

Once the required documents have been gathered, make a copy for yourself and apply for your Singapore Visa through the following steps:

Application through Singapore embassy, consulate, or VAC abroad

Complete Singapore Visa application form online, or make a print out of the form and fill it out by hand then sign it. You will have to fill in data regarding your personal information and details about your stay in Singapore.

Submit your Singapore visa application at the nearest Singapore embassy, consulate, or authorized Visa Application Center (VAC).

The processing fees will be collected at the time of submission for each application.

Receive your approved Singapore visa to your email or third-party service provider.

Online Application

If you have a local contact, who is a Singapore citizen or permanent resident, with a “SingPass” account, your local contact can apply online for a Singapore visa on your behalf, via the SAVE system at the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website. Your local contact can print a copy of your approved e-Visa through the online SAVE system.

Singapore Tourist Visa Fees

The Singapore visa processing fee is $30 and is non-refundable. For e-Service visas, you can make payment online with a major credit/debit card (MasterCard or Visa).

Where to apply for Singapore Visas

Within Singapore: A Singapore national, permanent resident, or authorized strategic partner can apply online on your behalf, via the SAVE system.

Outside Singapore: You can apply for a Singapore entry visa at your nearest Singapore embassy, consulate, or visa authorization center (VAC).

When to apply for Singapore Visas

It is advisable to apply for a Singapore Visa within 30 days of your planned trip to Singapore, as times may vary depending on the individual application. For this reason, we advise you to apply well in advance of your planned trip.

Singapore Tourist Visa Processing Time

Your Singapore visa will be processed within 3 business days, after the day of your application.

For Approved Singapore visa applications

Once the Singapore Visa has been approved, you can legally enter Singapore and stay for the maximum number of days permitted within the visa’s validity period.

For Denied Singapore visa applications

If your Singapore visa application has been rejected, you can appeal within one month of the rejection date to [email protected] .

To process your appeal, the following documents must be submitted:

• Passport copy
• In the case of application through a local contact, a signed letter by local contact requesting ICA to reconsider applicant's visa and reason for reconsideration
• Any supporting documents
• NRIC (National Registration Identity Card) date of issue of the local contact
• Note: Appeal processing times are approximately 14 business days. Times may vary, as each appeal is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Local contacts can track the visa appeal status online.

Singapore Entry Requirements

A Singapore Entry Visa is your pre-permission pass to request entry into Singapore. Once you are approved for a Singapore Visa to travel to Singapore, you must then obtain the permission to enter Singapore. Before ICA can consider you for entry into Singapore, you must meet the following basic requirements:

• A Singapore Entry Visa
• A submitted SG Arrival Card: All travelers are required to submit their health declaration information to ICA, within three days before their arrival in Singapore. You can apply via the SG Arrival Card e-Service or through a “SG Arrival Card” mobile application. Please note that the SG Arrival Card is not a visa or pass to enter Singapore.
• Sufficient funds for your stay
• Confirmed onward airline ticket (if applicable)
• A yellow fever vaccination certificate, if coming from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission (listed here ).
• Proof that you can enter your next destination (visa)

To be permitted entry into Singapore, you must obtain a Singapore Visit Pass. As of 10 October 2021, all foreign nationals arriving to Singapore by air will be emailed a digital Visit Pass (e-Pass), which substitutes a passport entry stamp. Your digital e-Passes will state the maximum duration period you are allowed to stay in Singapore. Please note that the duration stay period of your entry pass is different than the validity period of your entry visa. Some countries may be eligible for Visa-Free Transit Facilities (VFTF), a visa-free 96-hour transit in Singapore. Eligible countries include Georgia, India, China, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

How Long Does It Take To Process A Singaporean Short Stay Visa?

The processing time for a Singaporean short-stay visa for tourism can vary depending on several factors, including your nationality , the type of visa you are applying for, and the method of application (online or in-person). Here are some general guidelines regarding processing times:

E-Visa (Online Application)

If you are eligible to apply for a tourist visa online through the Electronic Visa (e-Visa) system, the processing time is typically relatively quick. In many cases, e-Visa applications are processed within a few working days, often within 3 to 5 business days.

However, processing times may vary based on the volume of applications and other factors.

If you are eligible for a visa-on-arrival (VFA) and choose to obtain your visa upon arrival at Singapore’s Changi Airport or land checkpoints, the processing is immediate. You will receive your visa at the point of entry .

Visa Application At The Embassy/Consulate

If you apply for a tourist/visitor visa in person at a Singaporean embassy or consulate in your home country, processing times can vary widely based on the embassy’s workload and other factors.

In some cases, processing may take anywhere from a few days to several weeks .

Additional Processing Time Factors

Singapore Visa for Tourists in 2024: A Comprehensive Guide

Singapore’s visa policy is simple and the country is very open to visitors. Most nationalities can enter visa-free and enjoy stays of either 30 or 90 days. The rest can obtain an e-Visa although a local Singaporean contact or a visa agent is a requirement.

Owing to digitalization, entering and leaving Singapore is seamless through one of the automated lanes. If you’re eligible, you won’t even have to speak to an immigration officer!

To save you time and summarize all the information, this guide will cover everything about Singapore visa policy, visa requirements and eligibility.

Passport holders of 163 countries and territories can travel visa-free to Singapore for 30 or 90 days.

Those who aren’t visa-exempt must obtain a tourist visa. There are two ways to do that. The first is an e-Visa through a Singaporean contact. The second is through an authorized visa agent or a Singaporean embassy.

Lastly, certain nationalities can take advantage of the Visa Free Transit Facility (VFTF) if in transit in Singapore to or from a third country. This option allows stays for up to 96 hours (4 days).

Singapore does not offer Visa on Arrival.

Entry Requirements

These entry requirements apply to all foreign citizens entering Singapore:

• At least 6 months of passport validity
• Valid visa unless visa exempt or using the Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF)
• Completed SG Arrival Card
• Return or onward ticket
• Proof of sufficient cash for your stay

Immigration officers very rarely ask for the last two. If you use the automated gates, you will not be asked for any proof.

It is also a good idea to check the list of Prohibited and Controlled Goods as Singaporean Customs can be a lot more curious.

The following countries are visa-exempt for Singapore. The length of allowed stay is either 30 or 90 days depending on your nationality.

Visa exemption is available at all border crossings via air, land, and sea.

Singapore Tourist Visa (e-Visa)

The nationalities that require a Singapore tourist visa are split into two levels. 

The main difference is that Level II countries must also submit a Letter of Introduction for Visa Application (LOI).

Assessment Level I Countries

• North Korea
• Turkmenistan

Assessment Level II Countries

• Afghanistan
• South Sudan

Visa Requirements

Even though it’s an e-Visa, as an applicant, you cannot apply for the e-Visa on your own. The e-Visa application must be submitted by a local Singaporean contact or applied through an authorized visa agent approved by ICA such as VFS Global. 

The Singaporean contact must be at least 21 years old, a legal citizen or resident of Singapore, and have access to SingPass , the Singapore Identity Verification app.

Both Level I and Level II are required to submit:

• Completed and signed Form 14A
• A passport-sized color photograph taken within the last 3 months. These are the photo requirements .
• A photocopy of your passport biodata page

Level II countries are additionally required to obtain:

• Completed Form V39A which is a Letter of Introduction for Visa Application (LOI), issued by a local contact in Singapore.

Finding a local contact for LOI may prove troublesome for some travelers. A LOI issued by your Embassy can also be accepted if you are unable to secure an LOI from an individual.

The application costs 30 SGD (~22$).

If your application is successful, your Singaporean contact or the visa agent can send you the e-Visa file. You must print it and present it on arrival to enter the country.

Applications are processed within 3 working days (excluding the day of submission).

Singapore Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF)

The Visa-Free Transit Facility (VFTF) allows entry into Singapore for up to 96 hours under certain conditions.

Eligible Countries

The following countries are eligible for VFTF:

Requirements

India passport holders.

Nationals of India are eligible for VFTF if they meet the following requirements:

• Enter Singapore by any mode of transport but leave only via air or sea to a third country. You may be asked to show an onward ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours. Flight, ferry, and cruise tickets are allowed.
• United States of America
• You travel directly from the country that issued the visa, through Singapore, back to your home country
• You have not been to your home country since you last used the visa

Schengen visas allow entry to both Germany and Switzerland, so they are accepted even if issued by another country.

All other countries

For the other countries on the VFTF list, these requirements are in place:

• Enter Singapore by any mode of transport but leave only via air to a third country. You may be asked to show an onward ticket departing Singapore within 96 hours. Only flight tickets are acceptable.

Visa-Free Transit

Visa-free transit does NOT allow you to enter Singapore!

You are considered a transiting traveler if you travel via Singapore without clearing immigration. All nationalities are eligible.

As a transiting passenger, you are allowed to stay within the transit area of Singapore Changi Airport.

Most layovers don’t require you to clear immigration. However, be careful with low-cost carriers and tickets booked separately. If that’s your case, you likely have to pass through immigration and customs and recheck your luggage. In that case, you must have a visa or be visa-exempt.

SG Arrival Card

The SG Arrival Card is mandatory for all visitors to Singapore regardless of nationality.

You can complete the SG Arrival Card online up to 3 days before arrival. There’s no minimum required time before arrival so you can complete it at the airport too.

The SG Arrival Card is automatically linked to your passport information. If you don’t complete it properly, automated lanes will reject you and you must see a border officer to amend it.

Automated Clearance

Singapore has made strides towards complete automation of its borders. It is expected that soon all arrivals will be processed through automated lanes. For now, these are the eligible countries:

The procedure is quick and straightforward. If this is your first time in Singapore, the machine will also collect your fingerprints, an iris scan, and a face picture.

You will NOT receive a stamp on your passport. After entry, you will receive an e-Pass to the email you have provided in the SG Arrival Card with the last day of stay allowed in Singapore.

Exit is also automated and passports are not stamped either.

Electronic Visit Pass (e-Pass)

Singapore has phased out issuing physical entry stamps in the passport. An Electonic Visit Pass or e-Pass is issued and sent to your email after clearing the immigration in Singapore. You can also retrieve a copy for your e-Pass on the ICA website

The e-Pass will have the details such as your date of entry into Singapore, maximum days of allowed stay and your last day of stay granted.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Does singapore require a covid test or vaccination certificate.

All Covid-related restrictions were dropped on 13 February 2023. There are no requirements regarding testing or vaccination. That said, while submitting an SG Arrival Card, you will fill out the health declaration whether or not you are experiencing any symptoms.

Can I get an SG Arrival Card at the airport?

Yes, you can. The paper-based arrival cards are phased out, so you will have to fill out an online SG Arrival Card. You can fill it out at the airport too, takes about 5-10 minutes.

What documents are required to enter Singapore?

• Passport valid for at least 6 more months
• Valid visa unless visa-exempt
• Onward ticket (very rarely, especially if using an automated lane).

Can I transit at Singapore Changi Airport without a visa?

Yes, you can, regardless of nationality, as long as you don’t leave the transit area.

You may enter and exit as you please if you’re visa-exempt. 

Alternatively, you may be eligible for a visa-free transit facility allowing stays inside Singapore for up to 96 hours.

What documents do I need to enter Singapore?

To enter Singapore, you will need a valid passport and a visa, unless you are a citizen of one of the countries that have a visa-waiver agreement with Singapore (see below). 

You may also need to provide evidence of your travel plans, such as a return or onward ticket, and you may be required to show that you have sufficient funds to support your stay in Singapore.

All visitors to Singapore need to fill in an SG Arrival card up to 3 days prior to arrival. This is done online and is free of charge.

In addition, you may be required to show a negative COVID-19 test result or proof of vaccination before you are allowed to enter Singapore.

What is the SG Arrival Card?

The SG Arrival Card is the electronic version of the old paper arrivals card. It includes an Electronic Health Declaration. It is designed to speed up the immigration process at the airport.

Singapore Travel Restrictions

The Singapore government has issued new travel guidelines since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. Be sure to check the Singapore Government website for updates on how this affects your destination and what you need in preparation before travel to singapore!

Bearing all these changes into consideration, we advise getting a good quality international health care plan as well – don’t take any chances when it comes to disease prevention, especially not at such an uncertain time like right now with Covid 19 looming over us.

Be Prepared if the Plan Changes

From 29 August 2022, face masks will be required on public transport and inside healthcare facilities.

Children aged six (06) years old & younger do not need to wear one for themselves but still should keep them handy just in case. You could get fined if caught without one.

Accepted Vaccinations

The Singapore government has set a vaccine requirement for entertainment venues over 12 years old. If you are not fully vaccinated, then it is recommended that those who will be attending enter with an immunity card or certificate from their physician verifying they have received the required doses of any vaccines listed below,

• AstraZeneca (also known as CoviShield)
• Janssen (Johnson and Johnson)

Singapore Visa

Applying for a Singapore visa doesn’t have to be a complicated process. With the Singapore Visa , applicants can complete the entire process online in just a few minutes. There’s no need to visit a Singapore embassy or consulate, and there’s no need to submit any paperwork. Simply fill out the online application , pay the visa fee, and you’ll receive your Singapore visa within 2-12 business days in general. The Singapore eVisa is valid for single entry and can be used for general stays of up to 30 days.

Singapore Entry Requirements

• To enter Singapore, all visitors must have a valid passport and an onward or return ticket.
• Those who are planning to stay for more than 90 days will also need to apply for a visa in advance.
• The type of visa required will depend on the visitor’s citizenship country and the trip’s purpose. For example, business and tourism visitors from certain countries can apply for an e-Visa, while others may be eligible for a Visa exemption.
• Visitors from other countries must apply for a traditional visa through their nearest Singaporean embassy or consulate.

Know When You Can Get Arrested

There are three main reasons why you may be arrested in Singapore, if you overstay your Singapore Visa, if you commit a crime, or if you are involved in a civil dispute. The police may hold onto you initially for up to 48 hours if you’re arrested. During this time period, there will be no contact with anyone, and only one phone call is allowed. The Singapore Constitution provides for access to a lawyer, but there are no defined timeframes.

• Overstaying your visa is a serious offense, and you will be arrested and deported if you are caught.
• You will be arrested and brought to court if you commit a crime. Depending on the severity of the offense, you may be fined, jailed, or both.
• Finally, if you are involved in a civil dispute, such as a property dispute, you may be arrested and required to appear in court.

Confiscation of Passports by Police

The police can take your passport if they are investigating. It will be returned once the investigation is over and/or convicted, but only after you serve whatever sentence there may have been on charges related to this crime (in prison).

When an investigation is launched, you will not be able to leave Singapore. You must be financially stable during this period of time, so it’s best if there are family members or friends who can support your stay in the country.

Reasons to Get Arrested in Singapore

• Being found drunk and incapable in public
• Fighting with others or resisting arrest can result from being hammered. Resisting the temptation to assault an officer could also land you behind bars if they try to take you away!
• Touching someone inappropriately (whether resulting due alcoholic behavior) will not go unpunished either
• Driving while drunk
• Drinking beyond the authorized hours
• You could get into trouble for drinking alcohol in public places other than restaurants, bars, and licensed entertainment venues between 10:30 pm – 7 am!
• You cannot bring vaporizers like e-cigarettes, pipes, and refills because they could get seized by authorities or even result in jail time!
• The minimum age for purchasing, using, and possessing tobacco products in Singapore is 21 years old. If you are found to be breaking this law, it could result in fines.

Overstaying Your Visa

Overstaying a visa can have serious consequences, including fines and imprisonment. In some cases, you may even be caned! The severity of this punishment depends on how long your expired stamp has been found in possession by customs agents or police officers.

The best time to visit Singapore is during the dry season, which lasts from April through October. With an average temperature of 26-27°C and low humidity, this period offers visitors perfect weather for fun in nature’s grandeur!

The weather in Singapore can be unpredictable, but the wettest months are November to January. If you don’t want a greater chance of rain, make sure your trip doesn’t take place during this time frame too!

Singapore groups the countries whose citizens require a visa to enter Singapore into two groups: assessment level I countries and assessment level II countries.

The Singapore tourist visa for Assessment Level I countries

Those holding a passport issued by an Assessment Level I country can apply for a Singaporean tourist visa online also called eVisa.

Assessment Level I countries include:

• North Korea
• Turkmenistan

Moreover, the eVisa for Singapore is issued to holders of:

Moreover, paper tourist visas are available to:

• Holders of temporary passports issued by the United Arab Emirates
• Holders of refugee travel documents issued by any Middle-East country
• Stateless persons

Traditional tourist visas for Singapore can be applied through a Singaporean embassy or consulate abroad or an authorised local visa agent.

Travel to Singapore without a visa for 90 days

The amount of time that eligible foreigners can spend in Singapore without a visa depends on the country that issued their passport.

Holders of passports issued by one of the below countries can stay in Singapore for up to 90 days without a visa . All these nationalities travelling to Singapore for a period of less than 90 days needs to process the SG Arrival Card :

• The Republic of Cyprus
• Czech Republic
• Netherlands
• New Zealand
• South Korea
• Switzerland
• United Kingdom
• United States

British passport holders must have the right to abode in the United Kingdom. If that is not the case, they can stay in Singapore without a visa for 30 days only.

Visit Singapore without a visa for 30 days

Those who are not included in the following groups can enter Singapore visa-free and stay within its territory for up to 30 days:

• Citizens of Assessment Level I countries
• Citizens of Assessment Level II countries
• Holders of the passports highlighted above (as they can stay for up to 90 days)

Long-term visas for Singapore

A great number of foreign nationals each year decide to move to Singapore or stay in the country for extended periods of time. That is the case, for example, for individuals who choose Singapore to work or study.

Please note that long-term visas require lengthier processing times and more extensive supporting documentation than a Singapore tourist visa. All applicants must fill out a separate request for an SG Arrival Card before they travel , regardless of their visa eligibility status.

Foreign citizens wishing to relocate to Singapore should contact their nearest Singaporean embassy or consulate to collect more information and start their application well in advance.

Those who need assistance in figuring out their specific situation can also refer to their nearest Singaporean embassy or consulate.

Please bear in mind that the Singapore Arrival Card is not a visa . It is a mandatory entry requirement for all foreign visitors. Those who need a visa must file a separate application for a Singaporean visa that suits their travel needs and requirements.

How to get a Singapore Tourist Visa

Singapore is one of the many countries that have adopted the electronic visa and some nationalities are eligible to get a Singapore visa online . However, you need to check your eligibility first. You can use the Visa Checker . You should know that 35 nationalities in the world can travel to Singapore visa-free, while only 15 are eligible for a Singapore eVisa. The Visa Checker will let you know in which category you are. Select your nationality on the left drag-down menu and choose Singapore on the right menu. The result will tell you what you need to know.

What are the requirements?

An online application does not involve as much hassle as when you go to a consulate. In fact, iVisa asks very little of you if you choose to apply online . Below you will find a list of the requirements.

Valid passport – all applicants must have a passport that does not expire for at least another 6 months from the date of arrival in Singapore.

Photo – you must submit a digital photo of yourself. Make sure that the picture is as recent as possible. Preferably taken in the last three months.

Return/onward flight ticket .

Proof of subsistence – all tourists who arrive in Singapore must hold proof of sufficient funds

Means of payment – an online application process involves an online payment as well. You must have a credit/debit card, but you can also pay using PayPal.

The application process

Once you have everything you need for an online application, you must move on to the next step, which is the application form . iVisa has a simple and straightforward form, and you should not spend more than 20 minutes completing it. The form consists of three simple steps.

Fill in the blanks of the form with your personal data. In this first section you must also choose the type of processing time for your Singapore eVisa . The prices shown below have their respective processing days. Here are your options:

Standard processing – we work on your application in 24 hours , and it costs USD $68.99 .

Rush processing – this time, you will get your Singapore eVisa in only 4 hours , but you will be charged USD $125.99 .

Super Rush processing – your application is processed within 30 minutes , and you must pay USD $199.99 .

Once you are finished with step one, you can move to step two, which consists of payment and revision . Keep in mind that you should not underestimate the revision. An error can invalidate your visa and make you repeat the process. Double-Check the accuracy of the information you provide, as well as the spelling.

The last step is reserved for document upload . iVisa asks you to provide some necessary documents to get the process started. The list of additional documents can differ from person to person since personal circumstances can vary. Once you have completed everything mentioned in these steps, you only need to click on ''submit'' and that's it! From that moment on, we will work on your Singapore eVisa until it is approved. Coming to the United States Temporarily - Nonimmigrant Visa Services

Nonimmigrant visa application processing fees are tiered, as shown below, based on the visa category for which you are applying.

Notice: Every visa applicant must pay the visa application processing fee for the visa category being applied for, unless the application fee is not required, as listed below .

Description of Service and Fee Amount (All fees = $ in US currency)

Nonimmigrant visa application processing fee (non-refundable) for all categories below

• Non-petition-based nonimmigrant visa (except E): $185.00

Includes (but not limited to), the following visa categories:

*Though petition-based nonimmigrant visas, the processing fee for these visas is $185.00

• Petition based visa categories: $205.00

Includes these visa categories:

• E - Treaty Trader/Investor, Australian Professional Specialty category visa: $315.00
• K – Fiancé(e) or Spouse of U.S. citizen category visa: $265.00

Border crossing card fees

• Border crossing card - age 15 and over (Valid 10 years): $185.00
• Border crossing card - under age 15; for Mexican citizens if parent or guardian has or is applying for a border crossing card (valid 10 years or until the applicant reaches age 15, whichever is sooner): $15.00
• L visa fraud prevention and detection fee - for visa applicant included in L blanket petition  (principal applicant only): $500.00
• The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2016 (Public Law 114-113) increases fees for certain H-1B and L-1 petitioners.  Consular sections collect this fee for blanket L-1 visa applications (principal applicant only) filed by petitioners who employ 50 or more individuals in the United States if more than 50 percent of those individuals are in H-1B or L-1 nonimmigrant status: $4,500.00 

When the nonimmigrant visa application processing fee is not required:

• Applicants for A, G, C-2, C-3, NATO, and diplomatic visas (defined in 22 CFR 41.26): No Fee
• Applicants for J visas participating in official U.S. Government-sponsored educational and cultural exchanges: No Fee (See Exchange Visitor Visas for further detailed fee information.)
• Replacement of machine-readable visa when the original visa was not properly affixed or needs to be reissued through no fault of the applicant: No Fee
• Applicants exempted by international agreement as determined by Visa Services, including members and staff of an observer mission to United Nations Headquarters recognized by the UN General Assembly, and their immediate families: No Fee
• Applicants travelling to provide charitable services as determined by Visa Services: No Fee
• U.S. government employees travelling on official business: No Fee
• A parent, sibling, spouse or child of a U.S. government employee killed in the line of duty who is traveling to attend the employee’s funeral and/or burial; or a parent, sibling, spouse, son or daughter of a U.S. government employee critically injured in the line of duty for visitation during emergency treatment and convalescence: No Fee

Nonimmigrant visa issuance fee, including border-crossing cards.

When the nonimmigrant visa issuance fee is not required:

• An official representative of a foreign government or an international or regional organization of which the United States is a member; members and staff of an observer mission to United Nations Headquarters recognized by the UN General Assembly; and applicants for diplomatic visas as defined under item 22(a); and their immediate families:  No Fee
• An applicant transiting to and from the United Nations Headquarters:  No Fee
• An applicant participating in a U.S. government sponsored program which may include applicant’s dependent spouse and children:  No Fee
• An applicant travelling to provide charitable services as determined by Visa Services:  No Fee

How to apply for or renew a U.S. tourist visa

If you visit the U.S. for tourism or business, you may need a visitor visa, also known as a tourist visa. Learn how to get and renew this type of nonimmigrant visa.

Find out if you need a visa to visit the U.S.

Check if your country participates in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program (VWP) . If it does, you can get a waiver and will not need a visa. If you do not see your country listed, you will need a visitor visa.

The visitor visa is a type of nonimmigrant visa for people who wish to temporarily enter the U.S. There are two categories:

• B-1 for business travel
• B-2 for tourism and medical treatment

Along with your visa, you must bring a passport issued by your country of citizenship. When you arrive at your port of entry into the U.S., officials will issue you a Form I-94, which electronically records your arrival and departure dates. Learn more about Form I-94.

How to renew a visitor visa

The process to renew a visitor visa is the same as getting one for the first time. Follow the process to apply for a visitor visa from the Department of State.

Find the contact information for your nearest U.S. embassy or consulate and contact them for visa renewal information.

Understand expiration dates for visas and I-94 forms

• The date you must depart the U.S. will be shown on your Form I-94. This date is determined by the Customs and Border Protection officer when you arrive at the port-of-entry into the U.S. 
• Only diplomatic visa holders and their dependents can renew their visas while they are in the U.S.
