History and facts about the Berlin TV Tower

The TV Tower in Berlin took about 4 years to build and was inaugurated on October 3, 1969. It was built by the Soviets and the East German government, and it was originally meant to represent the strength of communist East Germany.

view of Berlin TV Tower at sunset

The tower is 368 meters (1,207 feet) tall, including the antenna, and they intentionally built it so tall so that it could be seen from almost anywhere in the city. Today it’s still one of the tallest structures in Germany and the European Union.

Today it is a symbol of the reunification of Germany and a symbol of Berlin itself, and it’s one of the most famous landmarks in Germany .

Brandenburg Gate and Berliner Fernsehturm - can you go up the TV Tower in Berlin

The viewing platform sits at 203 meters (666 feet) and provides 360 degree views of the city. It takes about 40 seconds for the elevator to bring you to the viewing platform.

Bar 203 is located on the same level as the viewing platform. On a higher level, there’s a revolving restaurant called Sphere where you can reserve a table and enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner while enjoying the views.

On a good day, when the weather is good and visibility is clear, you can see as far as 70 to 80 kilometers away from the TV Tower. That’s roughly 43 to 50 miles.

How to visit the Berliner Ferhsehturm

The Berlin TV Tower is easy to see from almost anywhere around the city. You’ll get great views of the tower itself while exploring, and I think it should be included on any Berlin itinerary .

views from the Berlin TV Tower, including Berlin Cathedral, Tiergarten, Reichstag Building, Brandenburg Gate

But if you’re visiting the Berlin TV Tower for views, think about what kind of views you want. The light will be different at noon vs late afternoon/early evening, and this will change how your pictures look.

I personally think the light is great towards the end of the day, an hour or two before sunset. But there’s really not a bad time to visit.

Also, when you’re at the viewing platform, take a look down right in front of the windows. There are signs telling you what you’re looking at in that particular direction along with some interesting information.

Tips for getting photos of the TV Tower

As I mentioned, you’re likely to see the TV Tower several times throughout your trip as it pops out from behind a building when you turn a corner. But if you want some really nice photos of the tower, here are a few of my favorite spots.

Government District : In the government districts, near the Reichstag Building and the Bundestag Ubahn station, there’s a small tree lined stretch of benches, and those trees make a really nice frame for the TV Tower.

view of Berlin TV Tower in autumn near government district

Berliner Dom : When you stand in front of the Berlin Cathedral, on the west edge of the Lustgarten, you can get a really nice view of the TV Tower poking up behind the Cathedral.

Or go a little to the right while looking towards the Cathedral, and you can get a different angle with the TV Tower off to the side of the Berliner Dom.

Berlin Cathedral with Berliner Fernsehturm behind it

Frankfurter Tor : I live near Frankfurter Tor, and I love the view of the TV Tower from here. Frankfurter Allee, and then Karl-Marx-Allee on the other side of Frankfurter Tor, is a wide boulevard of Stalin era buildings, and you can get some great pictures here.

view of Berlin Fernsehturm and Frankfurter Tor at sunset

Victory Column : While I love the views from the TV Tower, sometimes it’s worth climbing a different tower so you’ll have photos with the TV Tower in them. Visit the Victory Column and climb up the 285 stairs for some fantastic views that include the TV Tower.

view from Victory Column Berlin including the TV Tower and Tiergarten

Panoramapunkt : Another great viewing platform where you can get views of Berlin that include the TV Tower is Panoramapunkt , located at Potsdamer Platz. It’s also home to Europe’s fastest elevator.

view of Berlin TV Tower from Panoramapunkt

Park Inn Hotel : Located on Alexanderplatz not far from the TV Tower is the Park Inn Hotel, which also has a viewing platform. Take the elevator to 35th floor of the hotel, although you’ll still have to climb 80 stairs from the 35th floor up to the 39th floor. But they have what is probably the best view of the TV Tower itself. It’s the first photo in this article.

What to wear on your visit

Since the TV Tower is likely only one stop on a big day of sightseeing, you’ll be on your feet a lot. Wear comfortable shoes, and dress for the weather at the time of year you’re visiting Berlin .

How to get to the Berlin TV Tower

The TV Tower is located at Panoramastraße 1A, 10178 Berlin, basically at Alexanderplatz to the west of the station. Getting there is easy since Alexanderplatz is so well connected to the rest of the city.

TV Tower behind Alexanderplatz station

To get to the TV Tower and Alexanderplatz, you can take Ubahn lines U2, U5, or U8, or you can take Sbahn lines S3, S5, S7, or S9. There are also several tram lines here, the M4, M5, and M6, and the station is serviced by a few regional trains and a few bus lines.

Once you reach the station, follow signs for the Fernsehturm.

Which is closer to Berliner Dom, Brandenburg Gate or Berliner Fernsehturm?

The Berliner Fernsehturm is closer to the Berliner Dom than Brandenburg Gate is by about half the distance. So if you’re sightseeing in this area, the Berlin Cathedral is about 800 meters (about half a mile) to the TV Tower, or 1.6km (about a mile) to Brandenburger Tor.

TV Tower FAQs and Things to know before you go

Before you visit the TV Tower, here are a few more pieces of advice to help you enjoy one of the most popular bucket list attractions in Berlin .

Berlin Festival of Lights - Berliner Dom and TV Tower

How much does it cost to visit the TV Tower?

At the time of writing, tickets purchased directly from the TV Tower start at 22.50 euros for adults and 12.50 euros for children.

You could wait an hour or two to get in if you don’t book ahead, so it’s worth paying a little extra for the skip-the-line tickets to drastically reduce your waiting time.

Fernsehturm opening times

The Fernsehturm has different opening hours depending on the time of year. It’s not open early enough to see the sunrise, but it does stay open late enough to see the sunset.

Observation deck opening hours: November – March 10 am to 10 pm

April – October 9 am to 11 pm

Holiday hours may differ, and the TV Tower closes two days each year for maintenance.

Berlin view from TV Tower

How much time do you need to visit the TV Tower?

If you plan on going up to the viewing platform of the TV Tower, you should probably plan on spending at least an hour here. Leave yourself more time if you’re having a meal at the restaurant.

Buying a ticket ahead of time will save you lots of waiting time. But if you wait until you get there to buy a ticket, you should allow for at least an hour just to wait in line.

Can you visit the TV Tower with a wheelchair?

Unfortunately the TV Tower was built in the 1960s, and they didn’t make it accessible for people in wheelchairs or those who have mobility issues. It’s nearly impossible to change it now, so you cannot go up the TV Tower with a wheelchair or other mobility device.

Can you visit the TV Tower with a baby carriage or stroller?

Strollers, baby carriages, and prams are not allowed up to the viewing platform of the TV Tower. There is a coat check area just past the entrance where you can leave your stroller while you go up the tower.

views of Berlin from TV Tower

Can you bring large bags or luggage into the TV Tower?

Large bags, suitcases, and even bottles (empty or full) are not allowed up to the viewing platform. The coat check is free, so they ask they you leave your coat and any large items with them during your visit.

Are dogs allowed in the Fernsehturm?

Sadly the TV Tower is not a dog friendly attraction. You can’t bring your four legged friend unless it’s an official guide dog.

Is there a limit to the number of people allowed?

Yes, the TV Tower can only let 350 people in at any one time. This includes the restaurant and the viewing platform combined.

How tall is the TV Tower in Berlin?

The Fernsehturm is 368 meters (1,207 feet) tall. This includes the antenna.

When was the Berlin TV Tower built?

The Berlin TV Tower was built in the mid to late 60s over a period of 4 years and inaugurated on October 3, 1969.

Is Berlin TV Tower worth it?

The Berlin TV Tower is worth it if you want views of Berlin from the highest point in the city. It’s a historic building and one of the tallest in Europe.

But if you’re more interested in views that include the TV Tower itself, there are other great viewing platforms. Try Panoramapunkt, Park Inn, Berliner Dom, Victory Column, or any others listed earlier in this blog post.

The TV Tower also might be a bit expensive if you’re in Berlin on a budget . Again, there are lots of other viewpoints in Berlin that are also wonderful and are more budget friendly.

Things to do near the TV Tower

With so many other things to do near the Fernsehturm, you’re spoiled for options. And besides the things I’ve listed below, you’ll have easy access to public transport, so you can get to another part of the city for sightseeing.

Museum Island

One of Berlin’s top attractions, Museum Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes multiple museums loaded with historic marvels. This is a great cultural site to visit in the German capital.

Alte Nationalgalerie Berlin Museum Island

Museum Island includes five museums to browse around in total: The Pergamon Museum, the Old Museum, the Old National Gallery, the Bode Museum, and the New Museum. You’ll probably also see the museum names listed in German, which are: Pergamonmuseum, Altes Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode Museum, and Neues Museum.

You can either walk from the TV Tower and enjoy the sights along the way, or you can hop on the U5 (going towards Hauptbahnhof) and get out 2 stops later at U Museumsinsel.

The Museum Island Welcome Card gives you a 72 hour transport pass, free entry to all museums and collections on Berlin’s Museum Island (Pergamon Museum, Bode Museum, Altes Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, and Neues Museum), and discounts at many other museums and attractions.

Another option is the normal Welcome Card which gives you discounted entrance to the museums on Museum Island plus discounts at many other museums and attractions. It also includes a transport pass with an option for either 48 hours, 72 hours, 4 day, 5 day, or 6 day.

Berliner Dom

The Berlin Cathedral, or Berliner Dom in German, is a gorgeous Protestant cathedral located on Museum Island. It’s one of the top attractions in the city and serves as both a museum and an active church.

Lustgarten Park and Berliner Dom on Museum Island

The admission fee includes an optional tour if you are interested in hearing about the history of the cathedral. You can also climb 270 stairs for lovely panoramic views of Berlin.

Tours do not run when church services are going on. To reach the Berlin Cathedral, it’s a 10-15 minute walk from the TV Tower, or take the U5 to U Museumsinsel.

Unter den Linden

Unter den Linden is the gorgeous street that runs from Museum Island to Brandenburg Gate . This is a great place to walk to see lots of Berlin’s top sights , especially on a sunny day.

Read my full guide to visiting Unter den Linden in Berlin .

Unter den Linden runs between Brandenburg Gate and Museum Island

Nikolaiviertel

Nikolaiviertel (Nicholas Quarter) is Berlin’s old town, dating back to around 1200. Sadly it was damaged during WWII and left in ruins for decades.

In the 1980s in the lead-up to the city’s 750th birthday in 1987, this medieval quarter was restored. So while the buildings aren’t original, you can now wander the streets and get the feel for what Berlin might have been like in the Middle Ages.

Berlin Nikolaiviertel old town neighborhood

There are lots of cute shops, cafes and restaurants here. The neighborhood lies along the Spree River, and it’s not far from the Berliner Dom and Museum Island.

Hackescher Höfe

Near the Hackescher Markt Sbahn station is an area called Hackescher Höfe, which is a series of pretty courtyards. Here you can shop at boutique stores or stop for a coffee, or simply enjoy the area.

Hackescher courtyards Berlin

To get there, it’s a 10-15 minute walk from the Fernsehturm. Or you can take the Sbahn (S3, S5, S7, or S9) one stop or take the tram (M4, M5, or M6) 2 stops.

Visit the tv tower - the berlin fernsehturm, iconic symbol of the city’s cold war division.

Berliner Fernsehturm

Did you know...

When the TV Tower was completed in 1969, the East German government would have to deal with one unintended consequence of the tower's ball - the reflective glass would catch the rays of the sun and split to form a cross, or crucifix. Something that locals would comically refer to as the 'Pope's Revenge' due to the country's anti-religious stance.

Guide to Berlin TV Tower: Tips, Restaurant, Tickets

Berlin TV Tower: A Symbol of Reunified Germany and a Berlin Landmark

The Berlin TV Tower on Alexanderplatz is one of the most visited sights in Berlin.

Rising majestically from the Marienviertel district, the Berlin TV Tower dominates the skyline of the German capital. It is the fourth-highest TV tower in Europe.  Every year, it welcomes more than 12 million visitors.

Read this guide to find out everything you need to know before your visit. This includes helpful visitor information, things to do and the history of the tower.

Berlin TV Tower in Germany

Things to do at Berlin TV Tower

Whether from the outside or from the top of the tower, visiting this Berlin landmark is an absolute must!

Read here what you can do during your visit to the Berlin TV Tower:

1. Admire the Height

With a total height of 368 meters, the Berlin TV Tower is the tallest building in Germany . The emphasis is on total height, because without the 118-meter antenna, considering only the height of the actual building, the tower would lose first place to the Europaturm in Frankfurt. People here in Berlin don't like to hear that...

Admire the tower and its historic architecture in full splendor, and of course take a few souvenir photos.

2. Take in the View from the Observation Floor

In just 40 seconds, the elevator will take you to the observation floor in the tower sphere, where a spectacular 360° panoramic view of the bustling Spree metropolis awaits you.  From here, you can see the Reichstag building, Museum Island, the Brandenburg Gate, the Spree River and much more.

With good visibility, you can see up to 70 km away. Thanks to the viewing telescopes provided, you can even spot the rotating Brandenburg wind turbines for a few coins. Several information boards show you which sights are hidden in which direction.

3. Enjoy a Drink in Berlin's Highest Bar

Bar 203 is also located on the observation floor at a height of 203 meters. As the highest bar in Berlin, a truly breathtaking panorama of the German capital opens up to you here. A unique place to toast with friends!

4. Dine in the Revolving Restaurant "Sphere"

Sphere revolving restaurant in the Berlin TV tower in Deutschland

The "Sphere" restaurant, located on the third floor of the tower sphere at a height of 207 meters , is visited by around 1,500 guests every day. It barely noticeably rotates around its own axis every hour, so visitors can enjoy not only an unforgettable meal from their place at the table, but also a wonderful view over all of Berlin.

The menus offer local as well as international delicacies and also child-friendly dishes. Restaurant tickets can also be booked with popular Berlin combination classics such as "Beer and Boulette" or " Champagne and Currywurst".

  • Tip: The entrance to Berlin TV Tower, without waiting time and including a table reservation , can be easily booked in advance at the desired time.

Entrance, Tickets & Tours for the Berlin TV Tower

  • Entrance : The observation deck of the Berlin TV Tower is open from March to November from 9:00 to 23:00 and from November to March from 10:00 to 22:00. You can find the current opening hours here .
  • Ticket : Fast View Tickets for admission to the Berlin TV Tower can be found here .
  • Restaurant Tickets: Tickets for a dinner with panoramic view, lunch or breakfast in lofty heights are available here .
  • Tours : If you want to discover this and other highlights of the German capital in a very flexible way and on your own, we recommend the audio guide app Best of Berlin Tour by YourMobileGuide .
  • Traveler's Tip: As long lines quickly form at the ticket office on site, it is advisable to book an online ticket in advance, for a small extra charge. Geschichte des Berliner Fernsehturms

History & Facts about Berlin TV Tower

The Berlin TV Tower was built as a prestige object of the former GDR between 1965 and 1969. The architects were Werner Ahrendt, Fritz Dieter, Günter Franke, Hermann Henselmann, and Jörg Streitparth. In addition to its core function as the site of several broadcasting stations for television and radio, the television tower was also intended to serve as a symbol of communist power .

During the construction of the tower, which cost around 132 million GDR marks, 7900 cubic meters of concrete, 1650 tons of round steel, 300 tons of prestressing steel, and 1500 tons of sectional steel were used. The tower sphere has a diameter of 32 meters, a volume of about 17,000 cubic meters, and weighs 4800 tons. It does not rest on the concrete bracket, but is attached to the steel truss with steel straps up to 26 centimeters thick.

After the tower was completed, the phenomenon of a cross of light appearing on the sphere of the tower when the sun shone directly on it - and still appears today - led to the derisive name "Revenge of the Pope" or "Saint Walter," after Walter Ulbricht, then head of the SED party. Other Berliners' nicknames for the TV tower also included "Show-off Angel" and "Imposing Cone." To counteract this, the GDR government tried to enforce the nickname "Asparagus Tower," but failed.

Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the former symbol of the GDR has turned into a symbol of reunified Germany and is now considered one of the country's most famous landmarks.

The Berlin TV Tower – in German, the Berliner Fernsehturm – was constructed between 1965 and 1969 and officially opened on the 3rd of October, 1969.

Despite its origins in the GDR (German Democratic Republic – East Germany ), the Tower has been a signature symbol of Berlin, and indeed Germany as a whole, carrying great symbolic value for the city and the country.

view from the berlin tv tower

Originally standing 365 metres tall, the Tower was fitted with a new antenna in the 1990s, increasing its height to an impressive 368 metres. This makes the TV Tower the fourth tallest freestanding building in Europe.

Halfway up the Tower, 203 metres above the ground, you’ll find a viewing platform offering vistas spanning over 40 km. There’s also a sought-after revolving restaurant in the Tower.

Check out this video where I’m showing some of the best sights in Berlin:

The TV Tower welcomes over 1.2 million visitors annually, so booking your tickets in advance is a good way to avoid long queues and waiting times.

A standard ticket from GetYourGuide starts from €24.50 per person and offers two main benefits:

  • You can skip the queue with Fast Track
  • Free cancellation
  • Get your ticket for the TV Tower here

The tickets from the official website start from €25.50, so it’s a no-brainer, in my opinion.

Tv tower Berlin restaurant

As I mentioned, there’s a restaurant at the top of the TV Tower, and plenty of different ticket options exist.

It’s important to note that you must book ahead if you want to eat in the restaurant.

Here are the different options if you want to visit the Berlin TV Tower restaurant:

  • Ticket with Window Seat Table Reservation : This option includes an entrance ticket and a window seat reservation at the restaurant (though food isn’t included). The cost is €27.50. You can purchase this here .
  • Ticket with Inner Circle Table Reservation : This package provides you with an entrance ticket and a reservation for a table in the Inner Circle of the restaurant (again, food isn’t included). It’s priced at €24.50. Buy it here .

Purchase this luxurious package here .

The TV Tower is near Alexanderplatz in Mitte, Berlin, formerly part of East Berlin.

Though the TV Tower was constructed by the GDR during the Cold War, when East and West Berlin were separated by the Berlin Wall , the impressive structure has maintained its conservation status.

Today, it’s a hallmark of both Berlin and Germany as a whole, recognised globally.

The address you’ll need to reach the TV Tower is:

Panoramastrasse 1A, 10178 Berlin, Germany.

With both S-Bahn and bus lines in the immediate vicinity, it’s easy to reach the Tower, whether travelling by car or public transport.

For more information, see my guide to public transport in Berlin – you can even take the train straight from Berlin Brandenburg Airport to Alexanderplatz .

In my comprehensive guide on  where to stay in Berlin , I mention several good hotels close to the TV Tower.

H4 Hotel, good place to stay near the tv tower

One of these excellent hotels is the H4 Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz .

I stayed here on a recent trip, and it’s a brilliant option if you’re looking for a 4-star hotel close to Alexanderplatz and the TV Tower.

During the high season, from March to September, the Tower is open from 09:00 – 22:00. During the low season, from October to February, it opens at 10:00.

Once you’ve gained access to the Tower, you can stay as long as you like.

Check the opening hours on the official website .

The TV Tower in Berlin stands today at 368 metres high. Until the 90s, only 365 metres and the last 3 metres were added when a new antenna was installed.

The viewing platform and the restaurant are at a height of 203 metres, which offers a phenomenal view of all of Berlin.

The Tower has two lifts that whisk you to the viewing platform in 34 seconds. This equates to a speed of about 6 metres per second.

The view from a height of 203 metres allows you to see as far as 42 km away in clear weather. Dining in a restaurant with such a view is exceptional.

The Tower was specifically built as a TV tower to provide East Berlin with a TV signal.

It was a striking structure in its time, and in 1969, when it was completed, it was the third tallest freestanding structure in the world, after the Television Tower in Moscow and the Empire State Building in New York .

In 1979, the TV Tower – more commonly referred to as the Television Tower at the time – was designated a listed building by the GDR.

Even after Berlin’s reunification, the Tower maintained its preservation status.

The Tower still functions as an actual television tower, although it’s also used as a tourist attraction. Approximately 60 TV and radio channels are broadcast from the Tower.

If you’re planning a trip in Berlin, I’ve also written some guides on the subject that you might find helpful.

The great thing about the Berlin TV Tower is that there’s no rush. Once you’re up there, you can stay as long as you want. So, it really depends on what you fancy doing while you’re up there.

In this section, we cover the best times to visit (below), a brief explanation of ticket options, info on security and prohibited items, how to get here and other things to do in the area.

As one might expect, the Tower is busiest on weekends with Fridays and Mondays also drawing higher numbers.

In Need of Better Broadcasting

In 1952, during an international conference on broadcasting in Stockholm, the GDR, a state which was recognized by few other states, received only two TV-frequencies with low performance.

Using several small radio masts was only a temporary solution; a tall TV tower was needed.

But it took the country more than 10 years to finally opt for the site in the center of Berlin.

And the government wanted more than just a tower to place the antenna; it wanted a masterpiece. A tall one.

The Berlin TV tower was the first to have a globe. Other famous TV towers have more cylinder-shaped main pods.

Berlin Fernsehturm |The Berlin TV Tower

Beloved Symbol of Berlin

The TV tower is more than a tall antenna, an observation deck and a restaurant with a view.

It’s what the East German regime always dreamt of: a modern, internationally renowned building, showing off what architects, engineers, and workers can achieve together in a socialist society.

The sphere is also an expression of the “space craze” of the 1960s.

After the Soviet achievements with the launch of the first satellite, the globe-shaped “Sputnik” in 1957, and Yuri Gagarin as the first human in outer space, everything outer space was highly in fashion in the GDR.

The GDR had more than a dozen stamps with the TV tower and the 100-DDR-Mark-bill bore it as well.

The TV tower is still pretty much in fashion today.

It’s used in German TV and advertising and the American movie “The Bourne Supremacy” from 2004 shows it in several shots.

For the World Cup 2006, which took place in Germany, the sphere was transformed into a giant soccer ball.

Some Trivia on the TV Tower

Due to the diamond-shaped tiles of stainless steel that clad the sphere, there is the reflection of a golden cross on the main pod on sunny days.

People in West Berlin used to call the cross “the Pope’s revenge”, in East Berlin people sometimes said: “a plus for socialism”.

When the TV tower was opened in 1969, the height was 365 meters (1,197 feet), only the renovations in the 1990s let it “grow” another 3 meters (9').

Secret bugging device: During the Cold War, the West German intelligence agency discovered that the German Democratic Republic had hidden a listening device in the Tower's sphere. This allowed them to eavesdrop on conversations in nearby government buildings and even the US Embassy. The device was operational for several years until its discovery in the 1990s.

Easter egg lighting: The TV Tower has a quirky tradition during Easter. Every year, the tower's sphere is transformed into a giant Easter egg with special lighting arrangements. This festive touch adds a playful and unexpected element to the iconic structure, delighting locals and tourists.

Original design modification: The original design of the TV Tower included a cross at the top. However, the communist government decided to remove the cross during construction, as it was considered a religious symbol. The decision sparked controversy and was seen as a political statement in the officially atheist German Democratic Republic.

Berlin TV Tower travel tips

  • The Berlin TV Tower is easy to get to via public transport, and as the tallest building in the city, it is very easy to identify. The area around it, Alexanderplatz, is often a common spot for meeting guided tour groups, and is a great place to enjoy a quick refreshment before you start a tour.
  • The tower is one of the city’s most highly visited and popular attractions, but can only allow up to 400 visitors at a time. During busy periods, this means that there can be lengthy waiting times, so it is well worth planning your visit in advance, to make sure you do not have to wait for hours in line.
  • If you have purchased an advance ticket, make sure that you arrive on time – you will be allowed a grace period of 10 minutes to allow for brief delays, but beyond that, your ticket will be voided.
  • There are some restrictions for visitors which are important to note. Prams and pushchairs are not allowed in the tower, however, they can be left downstairs in the entrance area, and children can be taken upstairs with accompanying adults.
  • There are no safety provisions or barriers in place for disabled visitors due to the construction of the tower, so the tower is not suitable for wheelchair users, or visitors who use any kind of mobility aids such as crutches and walking sticks. Dogs are generally not allowed in the tower, however, there is an exception for guide dogs.

Note: Berlin Welcome Card can be used to travel in the city’s buses free of cost. It also gets you free entry to numerous Berlin attractions, including the TV Tower.

During the peak season, they open at 9 am and during the winter months at 10 am.

Some visitors only go up to the Tower’s observatory while others extend their visit by climbing up 21 steps and stepping into the Berliner Fernsehturm restaurant.

The restaurant is 207 meters (680 feet) above the city and rotates 360 degrees in an hour.

It offers both Berlin food as well as international cuisine.

Here is a layout of the Sphere restaurant to give you a sense of what to expect.

There are two entrances at the bottom of the TV Tower.

One entrance is for visitors who have already booked their tickets online while the other is for visitors without tickets.

The one without a long queue is the one for online ticket holders.

Interesting Fact: Since the Berlin TV Tower is visible from almost every place in Berlin, it has a unique hashtag on Instagram – #ThatTowerAgain

During non-peak months (October to March), the waiting time at Television Tower Berlin averages 20 minutes.

From April to September, the peak tourist months, the waiting times can go up to two hours as well.

There are four queues at this observatory –

  • At the ticket counter to buy the tickets
  • At the security check
  • At the lifts to go up to the observatory
  • At the lifts to get down from the observatory

You can skip the first queue (which is also the longest) by booking your Fast View Berlin Tower ticket or reserving your window seat at the Berlin Tower restaurant in advance.

On the day of your visit, you will get priority entry through the lane reserved for visitors who already have tickets.

Unfortunately, there is no way to skip the queue for the security check and lift to reach the observatory.

Note: If you want nothing to do with the crowd but still want stunning views of Berlin, check out Panoramapunkt , yet another observatory in the city.

The Berlin Welcome Card, available as 48-hours, 72-hours, 4-day, 5-day, or 6-day option, offers a cost-effective means to explore Berlin.
