Back by popular demand for the third consecutive year, this is the Home Tour you don’t want to miss! The West Elm House is an idea house created to inspire and guide architecture and design enthusiasts when it comes to the art of modernizing a midcentury home for the way we live today. Join us for the Big Reveal of this “Midcentury to Next-Century Transformation” of another iconic Palm Springs home. In celebration of Modernism Week, Acme House Company has once again partnered with West Elm and local makers, artisans and craftspeople to create their third annual Living Showroom - a luxury vacation rental paradise where it’s all about relaxing in the sunshine. This year the collaboration focuses on an estate property (circa 1957) in the El Mirador neighborhood. The renovation respects the architectural integrity of the property, preserving many of the original period details while incorporating a fresh and current look with remodeled kitchen and baths, and a complete facelift for the pool yard. West Elm’s design team has incorporated their product line of organic, handcrafted, sustainably sourced and Fair Trade Certified™ sofas, tables, beds, lighting and accessories to create a comfortable, livable space that underscores today’s Palm Springs style. Docents of the tour will include members of the West Elm Design Lab who will be on hand to answer questions about the textiles, furniture and accessories used in the home and how to get the look that transformed this midcentury home into the Palm Springs paradise that it is today. You will also have an opportunity to meet some of the local artisans who created the featured paintings and sculptures.

Things to Know

Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by a hand holding adult. Tours begin on the half hour and there are a limited number of tickets available per tour session. Tickets are required. Space permitting, tickets will be available at the door if the tour time is not sold out. Please expect to spend 30 to 40 minutes on the property for the tour. There are no lavatory facilities available on site. No pets are allowed. The organizer of this event is Acme House Company .

West elm is unveiling their second living showroom during modernism week.  wyndal chapital – general manager of  west elm palm springs and modernism week board member –  gives us the scoop..

You may have seen it on social media: that angular roof line, colorful accents, midcentury modern-inspired interiors. The West Elm House 2017 was an Instagram-able feast for the eyes, showcasing a reinterpretation of a classic Palm Springs home, reimagined for the way we live today. This living showroom by  West Elm  and  Acme House Company  was created out of a desire to genuinely connect with the community in Palm Springs.

“We understand our obligation to this community. This means that we prioritize our relationships with customers, and we strive to find unique ways to engage in the activities and organizations that matter most to them,” shares West Elm Palm Springs’ General Manager and Modernism Week Board Member Wyndal Chapital. “Everyday my team chooses to make sure that these words are not rhetoric, but manifested in very tangible ways.”

The West Elm House 2017 celebrated the Palm Springs community by featuring artwork by local artists. “The house morphed into a platform that created access and a spotlight for many different people,” explains Chapital. “The community’s response became the catalyst for you to go back to the drawing board for this year’s West Elm Pool House. It encouraged us to take this idea to the next level.”

“We want make sure that we’re giving back to the community.”

This year, we’re proud to unveil the  West Elm House 2018: The Pool House  – the second Living Showroom, which promises to show a different side of the West Elm aesthetic. Read on to learn more about all the events happening in 2018.

The Big Reveal Party On Feb 16th, attendees of the The Big Reveal Party will be the first to see the new West Elm House 2018. This year’s house is located in the El Mirador neighborhood, and due to its bigger lot size, “there will be many surprises in the new house,” Chapital hints. Come dressed to impress, and sip on signature cocktails while viewing the design concepts West Elm brings to the Pool House.  Tickets available here.  

Tribute to Esther Williams: America’s Mermaid, featuring The Aqualillies The West Elm House 2018 is also named “The Pool House,” due to the stunning pool featured at the heart of the home. What better way to showcase this element than with a glamorous water ballet by the Aqualillies ? This performance will be part of a tribute to former Palm Springs resident and “America’s Mermaid,” Esther Williams. Her beauty and breathtaking aquamusicals with MGM  catapulted her to fame during the Golden Age of Hollywood.

“[The Aqualillies] will wear vintage swimsuits and swim caps as an ode to Esther Williams,” Chapital says. “We want to celebrate another aspect of 1950s living, while giving some diversity to programming for Modernism Week as well.”

Home Tour of West Elm House 2018: The Pool House West Elm had a hand in the total design concept of the home, from the renovation process down to the selection of accents and artwork. Chapital shares, “It’s going to feel very elevated…I’m just hoping that people are able to decipher how this design and experience is applicable to their lives.”

The house will display a mix of newer, glamorous West Elm products alongside  objet d’arte  sourced from local creatives. Chapital explains, “We want people to come in and really be able to find their voice or see how [these pieces] can translate into their home.”

Step Inside Chlöe Bailey’s Serene Los Angeles Home

Truth be told, Chlöe Bailey isn’t often at home. The singer-songwriter and actress, now known mononymously as Chlöe, operates on a very tight schedule. That means the majority of her time requires moving from one setting to the next—whether it’s meetings at the Parkwood Entertainment office, recording sessions in the studio, modeling for a photo shoot, or serving looks on the red carpet. However, when those long days are over, there’s a Los Angeles sanctuary Chlöe designed, working with West Elm , in which she can find respite from the demands of her very busy life.

The 1,300-square-foot apartment represents a new chapter in her so-called adult life. Having grown up in Atlanta , the 23-year-old cherishes the cozy roots of Southern comfort. “That piece of me is definitely in the apartment,” Chlöe explains via Zoom. “I think where L.A. comes in is that view,” she adds, referencing her first adult home’s stunning vista. “You can’t really avoid it, especially with the Hollywood sign. I always want things to feel warm and light—that’s what I take from my family home.”

As for her apartment’s aesthetic, Chlöe’s vision was simple: a zen space that felt “elegant, chic, and elevated,” while simultaneously radiating “boss bitch” energy. It’s a reflection of all the qualities that she embodies: confidence, ambition, and warmheartedness. (Can you tell that her sun is in Cancer?) Working closely with her godmother, who conveniently lives a few minutes away, it took about five months to design the apartment after Chlöe moved in last July. “It was so much fun because I always loved her home and her style,” she says of Joh. “[Now] it’s like I have a piece of her with me.”

From there, Chlöe collaborated with West Elm to add simple but striking statement pieces in neutral and warm tones. Her favorite colors, from a range of moody blues to the brass of a media console and its decorative, eye-catching objects, can be seen heavily represented throughout the space. Overall, the experience of furnishing the home was a relatively painless process that didn’t require too much heavy lifting. Toward the end of last December, the entire apartment finally felt complete.

The entryway serves as a literal walk down memory lane thanks to its tasteful series of framed photographs and paintings. Some are images from photo shoots, while others, like an oil painting by Theo Reijnders, show Chlöe sharing the stage with her younger sister, Halle. This area also functions as a runway thanks, in part, to its oversized floor mirror at the end of the hall.

Just as is true with her music, Chlöe is meticulous about the vibes within her home. The guest room doubles as her workspace, and, though it may be where she handles her business, don’t call it an office. Chlöe refers to this room as her zen spot, emphasizing that she “wanted it to feel like a big breath of fresh air.” One of the standout pieces is the ink-blue velvet sleeper sofa that pairs perfectly with the wallpaper. “It feels different than every room in there,” she adds.

Motivational mantras and mottos are also sprinkled throughout the vignettes. For example, there’s a plaque that reads “Do Epic Shit” beside recording equipment on her desk. “It’s all about pumping yourself up for the day,” Chlöe says.

The most special piece of furniture that she currently owns can be spotted in her bedroom: a queen-size bed. “My godmom got that for me, and I feel like a princess every time I lie on it,” she notes. “It feels really grand.” But if she’s being honest, Chlöe can usually be found sleeping in the living room with her dog, Common. “I always fall asleep on the couch,” she admits. Without a doubt, that is Chlöe’s favorite place to be.

With or without company, Chloe Bailey is all about getting cozy in her space. “I even love the apartment empty, with how open it is,” she says. “I feel like the windows and the light bring so much insight.”
