Did my Meet and Greet had a brief conversation with Johnny Depp was able to thank him for making me smile when I went through chemo treatments for a couple of years on and off. I would watch him on interviews and I would laugh at a time when laughter was not often.Johnnyis not particularly fond of interviews and promoting movies.Johnny took my hands and hugged me and kissed me on the cheek and asked is all ok now I said yes all is good ,I just wanted to thank him. THEN they moved me along. I said to Alice pleasure to meet you I have been following you like forever.Tjen came Joe I said nice to meet you and your grand daughter just turned a year old on the 11th of May he just looked at me and said what just as i wad gonna walk away he points at me and said OH YER and smiled. The concert was FREAKING AWESOME to hear Johnny finally show himself. He always said he couldn't sing unless in character. I bought the $1500 vip package where I got to meet the band and get front row seating and everything. I bought it cause I thought it would be sick to meet Johnny Depp. Obviously.

Well... The meet and greet started 1.5 hours later than they said It would. Then when it finaly started, we each got literally FOUR SECONDS to see the band. We had to talk as the pictures were being taken. 4 seconds no joke. And if you want to talk totem at all you risk ruining your pictures. Soooo Meet and greet sucked.

That being said, the concert itself was great. Awesome show.

It was a great show Johnny Depp was awesome, very talented! Even though Joe Perry was not present, Alice's guitar player was amazing. I really love the Hollywood Vampires and I hope they are around for a long time. I would love to see them again with a Joe Perry;best wishes for a speedy recovery. Excellent show and "fun" fundraising experience! I was very surprised at the extra effort band members went to to connect with the audience. I came to Phoenix from Oregon to see the Pudding Show with my family including my eleven year old son with full Alice make up. I hope to see it again next year!

Hollywood Vampires, best concert Ive been to in a long time!!!

Hey everyone, I haven't been to see them yet, I need a ticket urgently, but I need them to come to OZ because I can't get out of the goddam country. Come on Johhny Depp get your band to drop on by the land down under and share some thunder. Love Karlsie T

They put on a great show and joe perry even came on stage for one of they're encore songs at the end. I was at the Detroit show so they made sure to perform some songs that had been written there. Amazing, would definitely see them again

The show in Denver was awesome! Alice Cooper was at his best! Joe Perry is one of the best guitar players ever! Johnny Depp did a rockin job on the song Heroes by David Bowie! Fantastic night of rock! Will go see them again!

The Hollywood vampire concert was amazing! I would go again, and again, and again if I could !!! There were so many people of different ages, some for Alice, and of course some for Johnny Dep!! It was just fantastic!

Hollywood Vampires Detail 18-Date North American Summer Tour

Hollywood Vampires , the supergroup whose core members are Alice Cooper , Johnny Depp and Joe Perry , will set out on their first comprehensive North American tour this summer. Beginning with a gig in Verona, New York in late May, the band will visit the northern part of the U.S. and into Canada before wrapping in Paso Robles, California in late July. Other than an appearance at the Grammys in February, the band’s only North American gigs have been club shows in Hollywood.

The musicians supporting the core for the trek include drummer Matt Sorum (the Cult, Guns N’ Roses), guitarist Tommy Henriksen ( Alice Cooper ‘s band) and pianist, percussionist and guitarist Bruce Witkin ( Johnny Depp ‘s group the Kids). Since Duff McKagan, who had played bass at all of the band’s previous gigs, has reunited with Guns N’ Roses and will be touring with them this summer, the Vampires are welcoming Stone Temple Pilots’ Robert DeLeo to the fold to handle four-string duties.

“Here is a gang of friends who came together really by chance and over the last year we were finally able to wrangle our schedules and the energy just fell into place,” Joe Perry said in a statement. “Playing with this lineup is like a dream come true. After seeing the reaction at Rock in Rio [in Brazil] in front of 100,000 fans, I know this band is going to tear the house down. Hell, I would want to be in the audience to see us rip it up.”

The band will play a handful of Europen dates between their tour kickoff and return to the U.S. in July for a gig in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

In February, the group put out a deluxe edition of their self-titled debut , a collection of cover songs by what Cooper has called his “dead drunk friends,” as well as original songs. The new edition added versions of the Who’s “I’m a Boy,” Love’s “7 and 7 Is” and the Depp-penned original “As Bad as I Am,” the last of which the band played on the Grammys along with a cover of Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” in tribute to that trio’s late bassist Lemmy Kilmister. The album is available to hear now via Spotify .

Hollywood Vampires postpone US tour dates after Johnny Depp suffers ‘painful injury’

Hollywood Vampires have postponed the first three dates of their 2023 tour after frontman Johnny Depp sustained a “painful injury to his ankle”.

On Monday (29 May), the day before the revived American rock supergroup were scheduled to kick off their tour, they announced the “sad” news that they would be rescheduling three concerts set for this week.

“Johnny has sustained a painful injury to his ankle following his recent appearances and has been advised by his doctor not to travel,” they wrote in a statement shared on Instagram.

“He is devastated by this turn of events, but looks forward to resting up so all four Vampires can bring their absolute best to the tour in Europe.”

Their first three performances, which were expected to take place on Tuesday (30 May) in Manchester, New Hampshire, Wednesday (31 May) in Boston, Massachusetts, and Thursday (1 June) in Bethel, New York, will instead take place in July.

All tickets will be honoured for the new dates: Boston on 28 July, Manchester on 29 July and Bethel on 30 July.

The band, originally formed in 2012 by Depp and core members Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry , first shared in 2022 that they would be reuniting for a 2023 tour, along with rhythm guitarist Tommy Henriksen.

Their revival announcement came days after the Pirates of the Caribbean actor won his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.

In June 2022, a jury found that Heard had defamed Depp on all three counts and awarded him $10m (£8m) in compensatory damages and $5m (£4m) in punitive damages. Heard was awarded $2m (£1.6m) in compensatory damages, but no punitive damages.

During the recent world premiere of his new film Jeanne du Barry at the Cannes Film Festival, Depp addressed being “boycotted” by Hollywood following the trial.

“Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood? You’d have to not have a pulse at that point to feel [like], ‘None of this is happening, this is actually just a weird joke – you’ve been asleep for 35 years!’

“Of course, when you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing because of something that is merely a bunch of vowels and consonants floating in the air, you feel a bit boycotted,” Depp said.

Johnny Depp postpones Hollywood Vampires' U.S. tour dates after fracturing ankle

Johnny Depp and his rock band the Hollywood Vampires are postponing three U.S. tour dates.

In a Monday letter posted to the actor-musician's Instagram Stories, Depp expressed regret over the situation.

“My dear friends, I am sorry to say that I have fractured my ankle, which is a drag!!!” the 59-year-old wrote in the since-expired missive . “It began as a hairline break but somewhere between Cannes and the Royal Albert Hall, it got worse rather than better."

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Finding Neverland" star said that under the advisement of multiple medical professionals — who "strongly suggested" the actor avoid physical activity of any kind — he is unable to travel for the time being.

“To that end, the guys and I are very sorry to miss you in New Hampshire, Boston and New York but fear not, I promise we will bring an amazing show to all of you in Europe and bring our absolute best to the East Coast later this summer and make it up to those who have paid for those shows!!!" he continued. “Again, sincerest apologies. All my love and respect, J.D. x.”

The Hollywood Vampires , the supergroup that Depp debuted in 2015 with Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, also confirmed that he "sustained a painful injury to his ankle” following his trip to France for the annual Cannes Film Festival earlier this month.

“He is devastated by this turn of events, but looks forward to resting up so all four Vampires can bring their absolute best to the tour in Europe," the group wrote on social media.

The concerts in Boston; Manchester, N.H., and Bethel, N.Y., will be postponed to July 28, 29 and 30, according to the band’s post.

Depp recently attended the 2023 Cannes Film Festival to promote his French film “Jeanne du Barry,” which was controversially chosen to open the festival. It marked Depp’s return to the big screen since the highly publicized defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard made the public privy to alarming details involving their troubled marriage .

The film received a seven-minute standing ovation, and although Depp was teary-eyed as he waved and thanked fans following the film's screening, he didn't mince words the next day at an accompanying press conference. Depp told reporters he was "boycotted" and would prefer his return to the industry not be referred to as a “comeback.”

“I didn’t go anywhere,” he said. “I live about 45 minutes away from here, in fact. Maybe people stopped calling — out of whatever their fear was at the time — but I didn’t go nowhere ... ‘Comeback’ is almost like I’m going to come out and do a tap dance — dance my best and hope you approve. That’s the notion. It’s a bizarre mystery.”

“Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood?” he responded to one reporter's question. “You’d have to not have a pulse to not feel that, of course, when you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing ['Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore'] for something that is merely just a bunch of vowels and consonants in the air.

“Do I feel boycotted now? No, I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood, because I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t have much use for Hollywood, do you? It’s a strange, funny time when people feel like they can’t be themselves; they must fall in line with the person in front of them. If you want to live that life, I wish you the best, I’ll see you on the other side.”

Hollywood Vampires have postponed the first three dates of their 2023 tour after frontman Johnny Depp sustained a “painful injury to his ankle”.

On Monday (29 May), the day before the revived American rock supergroup were scheduled to kick off their tour, they announced the “sad” news that they would be rescheduling three concerts set for this week.

“Johnny has sustained a painful injury to his ankle following his recent appearances and has been advised by his doctor not to travel,” they wrote in a statement shared on Instagram.

“He is devastated by this turn of events, but looks forward to resting up so all four Vampires can bring their absolute best to the tour in Europe.”

Their first three performances, which were expected to take place on Tuesday (30 May) in Manchester, New Hampshire, Wednesday (31 May) in Boston, Massachusetts, and Thursday (1 June) in Bethel, New York, will instead take place in July.

All tickets will be honoured for the new dates: Boston on 28 July, Manchester on 29 July and Bethel on 30 July.

The band, originally formed in 2012 by Depp and core members Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry , first shared in 2022 that they would be reuniting for a 2023 tour, along with rhythm guitarist Tommy Henriksen.

Their revival announcement came days after the Pirates of the Caribbean actor won his defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.

In June 2022, a jury found that Heard had defamed Depp on all three counts and awarded him $10m (£8m) in compensatory damages and $5m (£4m) in punitive damages. Heard was awarded $2m (£1.6m) in compensatory damages, but no punitive damages.

During the recent world premiere of his new film Jeanne du Barry at the Cannes Film Festival, Depp addressed being “boycotted” by Hollywood following the trial.

“Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood? You’d have to not have a pulse at that point to feel [like], ‘None of this is happening, this is actually just a weird joke – you’ve been asleep for 35 years!’

“Of course, when you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing because of something that is merely a bunch of vowels and consonants floating in the air, you feel a bit boycotted,” Depp said.

While his Hollywood plans may be up in the air after his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp knows exactly what he’s doing next summer. He’s going on a tour of Europe with his rock band, the Hollywood Vampires.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor will rejoin bandmates and rock personalities Joe Perry, Alice Cooper and Tommy Henriksen for their upcoming summer 2023 gigs in Germany and Luxembourg.

“The Hollywood Vampires are BACK!!” the band’s official Instagram posted on Wednesday.

According to the social media post, the four-person band will play six shows throughout the month of June next summer. The first show will be in Oberhausen, Germany, at the Rudolf Weber-Arena on June 20, 2023. The post also teases that fans should “keep an eye out for more to come...”

The Hollywood Vampires will hit the road nearly three years after canceling their European summer tour twice due to COVID-19. The Europe shows were initially slated for 2020 but rescheduled to 2021 due to COVID-related safety concerns. Then in 2021, the band revealed via social media posts that it would reschedule its 2021 tour due to COVID-19 traveling restrictions.

The news of the group’s upcoming tour dates comes just weeks after Depp won approximately $10.4 million in the contentious defamation trial against ex-wife Heard. The trial, which came to a close earlier this month after six weeks, also saw jurors award Heard $2 million in damages.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor, who just ended his contentious and much-followed trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, is going back on the road with his band, the Hollywood Vampires.

The rock supergroup — made up of Depp, 59, Joe Perry, Alice Cooper and Tommy Henriksen — is going back on tour in the summer of 2023.

Cooper, 74, announced the band news on Instagram on Wednesday, revealing that the tour will commence in Germany and Luxembourg.

“The Hollywood Vampires are BACK!! We’re coming to Germany & Luxembourg Summer 2023,” the rocker wrote.

Tickets will go on sale on June 27 at 11 a.m. Central European Time.

A few of the dates for the forthcoming tour include:

• June 20, 2023, at the Rudolf Weber Arena in Oberhausen, Germany.
•  June 21, 2023, at Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.
•  June 24, 2023, at Olympiahalle in Munich, Germany.
•  June 27, 2023, at Stadtpark in Hamburg, Germany.
•  June 28, 2023, at the Zitadelle Spandau, in Berlin, Germany.
• June 30, 2023, at the Zitadelle Mainz in Mainz, Germany.

The Hollywood Vampires were formed in 2012 by Cooper, Depp and Perry, 71.

The moniker comes from the celebrity drinking club of the same name that “The Godfather of Shock Rock” created in the 1970s.

Since 2015, Hollywood Vampires have released two studio albums that have included guest appearances by icons such as Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh, Zak Starkey and Christopher Lee.

The group’s first live performance was held at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood on Sept. 16, 2015.

Of course , I thought to myself, after a disgruntled-yet-friendly shuttle-taking hopeful announced that said shuttle, the very one that my friend and I had been waiting half an hour for, wasn’t coming. I had a very specific pit in my stomach, the one that only comes when you’re about to completely miss the first part of the set of one of your favorite bands.

I turned to the guys in front of us in line. “Do you want to split an Uber?”

“Sure. We already got one; you can just hop in ours.”

On the way over, one of them was discussing how the band we were about to see used “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” as their walk-out song, baseball-style. He asked if we had heard of DMX. We stared blankly ahead.

“No, seriously? No way?!” 

“Ask them how old they are.” The driver laughed. 

“He’s about to change his mind about letting you guys ride with us,” his friend chimed in, as DMX guy shook his head playfully. 

“Yeah, man, I thought you guys were cool. I mean, you guys like Vampire Weekend; you must be!”

And, well — yes, I would agree. We are cool because we like Vampire Weekend. Vampire Weekend is a band unlike anything that has reached mainstream before or since. An eclectic and passionate mix of indie, rock, ska, hip-hop, and Afro-pop, to name a few, the alternative music landscape would look entirely different had Vampire Weekend not formed at Columbia University in 2006. Going against the grain both musically and visually, the group stood firm in their preppy, rich-kid image and musings in their lyrics, standing out against the slew of bands of a similar ilk repping/performing more scrappy aesthetics (compared to a band of a similar economic background, The Strokes). With the general public not knowing how to categorize them at first, this distinction grew to be their greatest strength, as they shot through the noise of what was trendy at the time and created their own lane that no other act could occupy. A few number-one albums and a Grammy later, the band had a sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl this past week, playing more-than-two-hour set of some of their biggest hits, as well as songs off of their latest record, Only God Was Above Us .

Ezra Koenig, lead singer and songwriter, stood in front of a black tarp with “Vampire Weekend” displayed across the front in white lettering. He played “Holiday,” “Cousins,” and “Ladies of Cambridge.” Then, as the set moved into newer songs — “Ice Cream Piano” and “Classical” — the tarp fell down to reveal the rest of the band. Swelling in unison, they announced their reveal, as the instrumental break of the latter tune created an infectious energy that kept building. They then all slowed down in time, closing the song in elated relief. “Connect,” another new song, saw Koenig standing solo, center stage, as a single spotlight followed him. The song was littered with quieter moments, highlighted as he stood completely still, center stage. 

During the groovy “Sunflower,” the violinist led the way in musical and bodily unison, with Koenig on guitar as they performed the striking hook (based around the Mixolydian scale ) with increasingly passionate vigor as the melody repeated itself. The saxophone player infused spurts of charm, as he swayed in place, looking quite pleased with himself. It was delightful to watch.

The band played fan favorites, including “Hannah Hunt,” “ Oxford Comma ,” “This Life,” and the song that gave them their big break, “A-Punk.” Audience members screamed the lyrics, interacting with those sitting in separate boxes, craving a touch of the unison the players were experiencing onstage. But “A-Punk” felt entirely different. A merge of what felt like three separate songs while remaining entirely cohesive, the track spun through guitar, drums, and a wind section with breathless ease. The highlight of the show saw the audience scream, “Hey, hey, hey!” and pumping their fists in the air along with Koenig.

Near the end of the show, Koenig played a slew of covers, including Steely Dan, Grateful Dead, and The B-52s. “Thanks so much for coming. … I’m going to end on a song we usually end shows on,” Koenig said, before performing “Walcott.”

On the way out, I stared at the hundred-dollar, green-striped rugby shirt the band was selling at the merch booth, just reveling in the crazy show I had just witnessed, and slightly grinning at how on-brand the shirt was. Oh, and DMX guy and his friend? We happened to bump into them on the way out. 

“No way ! You guys are awesome!” he cheered, as they smiled and waved us goodbye. 

I mean, yeah, of course we are. He said so himself — we love Vampire Weekend.

Vampire Weekend Have Reached A New Peak

It isn’t a stretch to call Vampire Weekend’s 2019 album, Father Of The Bride , divisive. It is generally acknowledged by both its proponents and detractors that it created something of a schism in the fanbase, but that probably gets subdued by the fact that few would call it a disaster and few prop it up as a high point in the discography. Their claiming of jam music as both inspiration and aspiration was either lauded or shrugged off, obscuring the fact that it was a crucial moment for the band, the record where there was more to prove than ever following the departure of integral collaborator Rostam Batmanglij.

But with the release of this year’s excellent Only God Was Above Us , people’s feelings about Father Of The Bride likely impact how the new album has been approached. Many of the forays into crustier territory have receded, replaced by distorted guitar, raw recordings, and warm songwriting. It’s hard to call something a return to form when the previous album was generally liked by many, but it does feel like something was proved by this latest album. It proved that a Rostam-less Vampire Weekend can’t just succeed by reinventing themselves, they can also succeed by building on the path that culminated with the 2013 masterpiece Modern Vampires Of The City , the album that solidified them as one of the most important and successful indie rock bands of their time.

You probably don’t need me to underscore what side of the fence I fall on (and it’s important to note that even at Uproxx, we have folks holding each opinion, and even people like Steven Hyden who celebrates all sides of the Vampire Weekend dice ), but that debate over whether Vampire Weekend “still have it” or whether they “never lost it” became secondary at the Hollywood Bowl last week for a sold out headlining show. Witnessing this incarnation of the band live, the narrative around Vampire Weekend should probably be that they’re a better band than they’ve ever been.

Now, I don’t claim this lightly. I’ve seen the band perform live countless times since their 2008 debut. I saw them at a Long Beach theater for a California tour ahead of Contra . I’ve seen three of their four headline sets at the Hollywood Bowl. I’ve seen them at festivals around the world. But, it wasn’t until this week that I’ve ever been blown away by the sheer magnitude of their sound.

It’s a fitting development considering the project they are touring. Only God Was Above Us is a bit louder, a bit more abrasive, and a bit more aggressive than the band’s previous work, all very much safely calibrated so it very much feels like a Vampire Weekend record. The set on this night seemed designed to fit within that version of the band, underscored by numerous showstopping moments meant to punctuate the performance. It started simply enough, with the three original Vampy Weeks members performing in front of a giant banner with their band name, pushing them right to the front of the stage. It didn’t take a detective to suspect that a banner would drop to reveal something , but that came after a few classic numbers that drew back to their classic sound: “Holiday,” “Cousins,” and “Boston.” But once bandleader Ezra Koenig stood solo for “Ice Cream Piano” only to have the banner fall and reveal an expanded lineup of touring members, a version of their best-sounding self was solidified.

Part of the success of this show rested on the shoulders of touring multi-instrumentalists that could support the songs with strings, woodwinds, and additional percussion — yes, the biggest move of their Father Of The Bride era, a second drummer, remains. Koenig seemed aware of this, taking time away from his usual front-and-center placement to literally shine a light on these supporting players — he carried around a portable LED to illuminate them — during the massive “Mary Boone.”

But it was really Koenig himself who held the show in his hands. There were experiments of Koenig roaming the stage, coming short of “choreography” but definitely exhibiting staged movements that approached something beyond bandleader. There were the decisions to honor the ska support of The English Beat and Voodoo Glow Skulls with reimagined ska versions of “Ottoman,” “Sunflower,” and “Give Up The Gun.” And, most crucially, there was Koenig’s vocal performance, which never shied away from his song’s most difficult vocal heights — see the climax of “Hannah Hunt” or the chorus of “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa.” Most of his contemporaries start to sing around the hard parts as they hit middle age, but Koenig sounds better than ever when he bravely hits every note. And in turn, so does his band.

Lastly, it is impressive with how the willing the band is to honor their entire catalog in their live performances. This is something that makes or breaks a band as they approach their legacy era. Balancing the songs that everyone knows, special songs for individual occasions , and unexpected curveballs are indicators of both confidence in their own material and respect for their fandom. Scanning over their tour so far reveals wildly different shows from night to night. That places them among the live greats, the artists that can maintain careers long after their best material is out in the world. But Vampire Weekend are already there, matching the strength of their new material with the best shows of their lives.

EXCLUSIVE: Mubi has snapped up multiple key territories for Portuguese filmmaker Miguel Gomes ’ Grand Tour , following the film’s world premiere in Competition at Cannes where it won the Best Director prize.

The global distributor, streaming service and production company has acquired North America, UK, Ireland, Latin America, Germany, Austria, Turkey and India. The company will unveil release plans in the coming months.

Grand Tour was Gomes’ first feature to world premiere in Competition at Cannes, after debuting previous critically-acclaimed films Arabian Nights in Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2015 and Tabu , which played in competition at the Berlinale in 2012, winning the Silver Bear.

Gomes co-wrote the screenplay with Mariana Ricardo, Telmo Churro, and Maureen Fazendeiro. Produced by Filipa Reis, the film was shot in China, the Philippines, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam with three cinematographers, Guo Liang, Rui Poças, and Sayombhu Mukdeeprom.

Uma Pedra no Sapato produced the film with Vivo film, Shellac and Cinéma Defacto acting as co-producers and The Match Factory, Rediance and Creatps as associate producers.
